Temptel and Cabiria are my favorites to draw atp.

I am aware that @gattnk decided to keep the designs somewhat simple for animation purposes, which I love because they're treating it like an actual reboot (and we all know how much AF needs one)!! My altercations, however few, are mostly out of fun and extra spice to the alt theme the devils have, not that the existing redesigns don't have them ofc. I like making Temptel look older because old milfs can still be milfs 💜. /j

What are your unpopular opinions on AF?

i don’t think the fandom is big enough to really gauge if an opinion is unpopular or not but i’ll have a guess?

- i don’t like the miki/gas ship it just annoys me miki deserves better

- the subplot of kabale having a crush on sulfus is so weird and we should all be shipping kabale and cabiria they are so cute together

- raf can be mean but we should let her be, mean raf is awesome

- sunny college was terrible

Nights of Cabiria Came Out Sixty Years Ago and Is Still Feminist AF

In the 1950s and 60s, Italy saw an economic boom that was dubbed the “economic miracle.” That same decade, Italian auteur Federico Fellini directed the talented, lively Giulietta Masina in 1957′s “Nights of Cabiria” (Masina and Fellini were also married). Uninterested in reflecting the economic surplus that Italy was enjoying at the time, Fellini chose instead to center his film around the story of a fiery, independent prostitute looking for love while living in the slums of Rome. The film was born from the Italian neorealism movement that surged during the forties and fifties. Works like Bicycle Thieves and Umberto D. (both films directed by the masterful Vittorio De Sica) excelled in showing the harsh and often hopeless conditions of the poor and working class. Nights of Cabiria followed in that tradition, but with Masina and Fellini at its center, it also had this resounding defiance that made it truly stand apart. Whereas movies like Bicycle Thieves, (fantastic as it was) carried an overall sense of defeatism and resignation throughout, Cabiria held a more resistant and combative approach, thanks mainly in part to its inimitable lead.

Masina, sometimes dubbed the “female Chaplin” not only for her keen sense of physical comedy but also for her admirable moments of earnestness and vulnerability, gives one of the greatest, most magnetic performances of her time as the titular Cabiria. The role demands as much from Masina physically as it does emotionally, with Masina often having to play up the slapstick elements for laughs sometimes, and having to capture the fiery nature of her character at other times. She does all of this while still maintaining a heartfelt vulnerability at Cabiria’s core. Because despite Cabiria’s independence, despite the fact that she owns her own modest little shanty, despite the fact that she’s self-reliant and without need of a man, Cabiria still has this strong emotional need to love and be loved. 

And while the story of a woman looking for fulfillment through the love of another man doesn’t seem particularly feminist on the surface, everything about Cabiria is empowering, from her work as a prostitute (never shying away from her sexuality), to her combative personality, always unafraid to stand up to any and every insult or mistreatment. Cabiria, even as a sex worker, sees nobody as above her, and in one infamous scene, struts down the streets of Rome with the swagger and confidence of a runway model. At another moment, we see Cabiria going toe to toe with a fellow hooker, both of them scrapping and pulling at each other’s hair, at which point an onlooker gives what has to be one of the greatest throwaway lines by an extra in film history: “Forza Cabiria!” The line serves as the perfect theme and rallying cry for not only Cabiria herself, but the entire film (the line has also inspired virtually all of my social media usernames, from here to Twitter to Instagram to Snapchat...add me! @forzacabiria).

But Cabiria’s most admirable quality is her unwavering resolve. Spending the entire duration of the movie being betrayed, cheated, and manipulated by men, Cabiria nevertheless maintains her fierce optimism and joyful attitude towards love and life. She’s by far the strongest character in the film, surrounded by men whom are unsure, insecure, indecisive, manipulative, and cowardly in their actions. 

But perhaps the most defiant, liberating movement of the film comes at the end, when after being betrayed and abandoned by her latest beau (whom also manages to steal her money), Cabiria wanders the streets of Rome aimlessly. Looking defeated, with her make-up running and her tears still damp on her cheeks, we’re left wondering whether Cabiria’s unwavering spirit has finally been broken. But a few moments later, a youthful group come riding down the street with bikes and banjos, playing music, dancing, and serenading Cabiria’s seemingly broken exterior with smiles and laughs. And it’s at this moment that we’re given the greatest breaking of the fourth wall in cinematic history. Equally defiant, equally uplifting and reaffirming, Cabiria gives the camera an infectious beam and with it a refusal to let anybody break her unfaltering humanity.

How would you have wanted season 3 of AF to turn out ?

ive thought about this a lot and i dont think i have one straight answer. i don’t think raf and sulfus would go down the path of metamorphosis in season 3 because they’d be on it for ages and it just wouldnt make for an interesting watch in my opinion, they’d probably be stopped by something or some one and end up going to golden university with the rest of the gang.

i would want more blu story, of course. i think we’d get it. i said before that i think raf and blu are half-sisters which could make for an interesting conflict in the season, a blu redemption arc would be cool as well.

then of COURSE i would want cabiria and kabale to be in a confirmed relationship but i dont think the show would do that haha, i just want my gay devils.

as a whole i would like more worldbuilding? because if you think about the guardian angel/devil system too hard it stops making sense so i’d like to see expansion on that, and also stories about other guardian angels and devils

thats all i can think of for now!
