munday: do you cook? what's your favorite comfort food meal to make? (if you don't cook, what's your favorite comfort food in general)

I do absolutely cook! Though as I'm currently living with my parents, my mother is the one who cooks most often. Of my own stuff, my favorite comfort food to make is mac and cheese; I don't have one particular "from scratch" recipe, I'm always trying variations, though I've got a preference for ones where I don't need to babysit a roux (though the ones with a roux base are very good). If I'm feeling really tired, though, I may just take a boxed mac and cheese and dress it up into something nice. Hot cheesey gooey goodness makes my tummy happy.

Of the food my mom makes: her lasagna. Layers of noodles and her red sauce and thick, gooey, decadent whole milk ricotta. Hnnnnnnng. Cheese is good, cheese is life. It also reheats really well, so it's a meal that makes for fantastic leftovers. Mom's lasagna on a cold winter day is absolute decadent happiness. Kind of a pain in the ass, though, because it's definitely a two-person job putting it together. (We do not use oven ready noodles. My mother is a snob and I inherited that trait from her honestly.)

Zero perched as far forward on the couch—well, it was shorter than a couch, maybe this was what mortals called a setee—as she could. A fire crackled in the hearth across the room, but she was content to ignore it; Ishgard's cold bothered her as little as Garlemald's, but seated like this she could focus on the steady wood of the frame under her, rather than feeling like she would sink into the too-soft cushions.

Cornerwise to her seat, Hanami's mate busied himself with pouring drinks into fragile-looking dishware. "How do you take your tea, Mistress Zero?" he asked, with a bright smile.

(Mortals smiled so much. Even strangers. Zero's cheeks ached just thinking about it.)

She looked at the tray, at the steaming drinks—tea, apparently, though it smelled nothing like the masala chai she was served in Radz-at-Han, nor did it resemble the grassy brew that lived in her hazy memories of home before the Flood.

"In a cup," she said. It only seemed sensible. "And hot. Please," she added. Vrtra was always very kind about explaining that such pleasantries were polite, even when responding to an unsolicited offer.

The man (Aymeric, she reminded herself) raised a hand to his mouth and made a quiet choking noise. "Of course," he said, after a momentary recovery. "Would you like any accoutrements with your drink? Sugar, syrup, jam?"

That would explain the little bottles and jars littering the tray. The meyhane usually didn't add anything to the drinks after serving, so...

"I don't know," Zero admitted.

Aymeric nodded, like this was normal. "My preference is for syrup," he said, "but the prevailing wisdom is that jam produces a more complex flavor. I'm certain Hanami will be happy to provide recommendations as well, when she arrives."

Hanami did enjoy the same foods Zero did, when they ate together, but complex sounded like something to work up to. Her taste buds were still not as sensitive as the others' seemed to be. "Syrup will do," she said. "Will Hanami return soon?"

Aymeric handed her a cup with a spoon and a small cookie balanced on an impractically tiny plate. "She should be home within the bell, at the latest," he said. "I do apologize for the delay—she mentioned the two of you had scheduled an outing."

"I asked Hanami to teach me how to express my friendship to others," she said. "Mostly in battle."

Aymeric made the choking sound again, muffled slightly by his mouthful of tea, but settled before Zero felt compelled to intervene. "I see," he said, and offered her another baffling smile. "Hanami is indeed quite...devoted to her friends—and uniquely skilled in protecting them from harm; I have never known a guardian to be her equal. Should you have any questions regarding social customs, however, or other traditions of affection, I would be happy to offer what assistance I may."

Zero frowned. She had initially asked Y'shtola for help channeling the sudden surges of fire in her breast into power; Y'shtola always explained things concisely and clearly. She had only given one of her grins-that-meant-laughter, though, and directed her query to Estinien, who had blinked at her and told her to ask Vrtra. And Vrtra's little mannequin had also smiled (kinder than Y'shtola) and declared Hanami the expert.

...that felt like too much to explain.

"But you aren't my friend," she said, because it was shorter.

For the third time in as many minutes, Aymeric almost choked on his tea.

I am looking into getting my recent tarot series printed, and the order size is up to 29 cards before the price goes up, so I decided to use some of the time before dawntrail to make tarot cards as thanks for a few of the people who had to put up with me endlessly asking for shader/pose opinions and chattering about tarot, or otherwise assisting me. tagged by @frenchy-and-the-sea! i'm in GM prep hell (running a system i've never played or run before for the first time come monday), but i'm on the final stretch of that homebrewed crystal-healing-but-evil druid subclass i've been threatening to write! so have some fancy layout screenshots.

pf2 druids are really flexible in terms of combat roles, so i've been envisioning blight druids as a melee tank/debuffer—they can make creatures in their aura drained (which reduces max HP) and sickened (which gives penalties to basically everything). but watch out! your friends are not immune to magic cancer :)

i'm mostly in the stage of shoving this in my friends' faces and making them check math for me to see if it's remotely balanced, but considering i've never written a class (or subclass) before, i'm pretty damn proud of my first attempt.

last movie: Hmmmm... Oh! That's right, Mr and I wanted "The Day after Tomorrow"! We need to start our movie nights back up, we dropped off again when the Diablo IV season started up.

last game: Currently in FFXIV as mentioned above, but that's my "everyday" game even if it hasn't been "everyday" for a few months lately. Dragon Age Veilguard and Inquisition both took up the end of 2024, and as mentioned, the new season of Diablo IV has been chipping away at time as well! (the complete all the season chapters reward is a birb pet. named DORIAN. And he's black and purple and blue. I've been working on getting him before stopping for the season....)

last tv show: ....... good gods I have no idea? I don't really watch TV shows, and rarely have been watching movies right now...

sweet/spicy/savory: Def sweet. I like savory, don't get me wrong, and spicy really doesn't agree with me (I'm pretty sure that's an unfortunately, because I've for the most part *liked* the taste of spicier things, but... I literally can't handle it). Sweets however? I think the phrase when planning the NYC trip was "no such thing as too many bakeries".

relationship: Happily married to my Mr for 9 years this year!

last book: technically the LANCER rulebook, because i'm refreshing my memory before i run a mini-campaign for some irl pals. but also i got my hands on Tevinter Nights and i've been bouncing between the short stories in there! after that i'll either go back to The Work of the Dead by Thomas W. Laqueur (a really cool but really thicc study of the cultural history of human remains and mourning/burial traditions, and the different ways humans historically have cared and continue to care for the bodies of the dead) or i'll get started on Mistborn.

last movie: genuinely had to think, because i haven't seen a movie in a hot minute. i think it would have been when i went to see Wicked with @quendis? absolutely STELLAR adaptation, the sets and costumes were incredible, i was actually blown away by Ariana Grande? damn.

last game: FFXIV! logged in for the first time in [mumble] to do the valentine's event. i've been playing a loooooooot of Dragon Age: the Veilguard and it's rotting my brain.

last tv show: i don't watch much tv, but i threw Dead Boy Detectives up for white noise while i was cleaning over the weekend. also my mother's been bingeing A Discovery of Witches and i feel like i osmosed more of the plot than i wanted to.

sweet/spicy/savory: savory! but i love all three. especially spice. if my eyelids aren't sweating it's not hot enough.

relationship: single, not ready to mingle. i'm determined to become a cat lady when i grow up.

fave color: blue! pretty much any variety, but deep ocean blues and teals have a special place in my heart.
