Path of Life Ramblings (Story Spoilers below)

mentally I compare Mylnar and Ulpianus a lot. They're both the 1 dude of previously all female groups (the Nearls and the Abyssal Hunters) and both hold the title of being basically the Eldest and one of the strongest of the group were a lot of the overarching lore comes from.

But, I dislike Mylnar. Mainly bc of how mean he is to Blemishine in her debut event and I kinda always hated how he felt like he wanted to drag everyone else into his permanent pity party (his voicelines making him out to be a complete Eeyore didn't help either). I'm guessing that he gets better in his own event (bc I still found him annoying in Near Light), but it's taking me a while to sit down and read it bc I still hold a grudge for how he treated Blemi (who is one of my fav characters) And what I heard from people who play CN during Path of Life's original announcement made me worried that I would fine Ulpianus either boring, or as irritating as Mylnar.

But that wasn't the case! Despite Ulpianus' withdrawn and similar stick up his ass attitude, it was easier to see that he like, cares about the other Hunters and other characters like Underflow & Jordi even when he's still refusing to actually team up with anyone else! I was actually really concerned about him by the end, bc what he's doing is incredibly dangerous and he doesn't even have someone to help him/witness the info he's about to gain if he loses himself to the seaborn. So I'm excited to see what happens when the other AH finally catch up to him, whether it be to help or capture him, or both. And maybe he also needs a lecture about how wonderful working with a team can be instead of wanting to carry everything himself.

I do have to say that it's also, kinda weird that Path of Life is when he's playable? Like, it ends with him vanishing to gain the knowledge that the Seaborn/Matus has on the past of the Aegir/The Firstborn, the danger of him maybe losing himself the same way Martus did and the other AH vowing to find him and bring him in for like, an actual explanation of everything. But now he's just...on the landship...still completely lucid....with an epilogue of his experiences being in his files...kinda working with the other AH now but not really

It feels kinda anti-climatic? Honestly it felt kinda weird how the narrative kept kinda asking us to doubt if he was still in the right mind when he never did or said anything for us to really doubt him besides like, refusing to work with others or explain more than what he viewed as the bare minimum. Also I kinda wanted him to like, actually have a moment where he accepts the other AH's help and officially joins them under Gladiia's command.... Tho it also kinda feels like Ulpianus was basically the only person they could have had as a 6* this event. The rest of the AH already released and Jordi & Irene are too early in their developments still to get alters. Lucilla's screentime would be too criminally low given what the story is trying to accomplish as well. I guess...maybe Underflow could have worked as the 6*? But I'm not super certain. And then it feels too early for Gladiia's moms as well.

But hey I'm glad I don't hate him. Now my next wish is that the next AH event finally lets Andreana and Iridescence join the fray. I kinda feel like Aegir would be interested in the church of the deep creating a half-abyssal, given their own difficulties with the procedure. (Also I just want Andreana to be more present in AH stuff....please HG...)

while i generally do agree that 'evil' depictions of thor are valid, seeing jotnar as like a race of people that are massacared is also ignoring a lot of the cultural context of the jotnar. Its generally accepted that the jotnar represented nature, more specifically, the often dangerous parts of nature. like aegir, the ocean whos married to ran who is literally the personification of drowning. while the æsir and vanir, on the other hand, represented aspects of society and civilization, so thor killing jotnar could be read as humanity prevailing over nature's forces. while its 100% ok in a modern context to reinterpret these stories as an allegory for genocide (and those stories are equally as valid) its also important to remember where they came from.

FE3H Oc Lore Pt. 1 - Family History

Taking @sparrow0v0's advice. Going piece meal of my oc Viktorya's lore and info until I can masterlist when my computer is repaired. Starting off with some important history.

Small Beginnings, Big Aspirations

House Isla began as a small merchant family in Boramas, the capital of Aegir. Seeking greater opportunities for fortune and recognition, the eldest son, William Ambrose Isla, would travel overseas to trade goods and services more directly in Morfis.

However, a coastal storm sent his ship off course, crashing him and his crew onto a strange island. It was a dangerous region, filled with strange creatures and even stranger people. Seeking refuge and resources, William would catch sight of smoke up the mountain pass. Perhaps there were people there, people who could help. Finding the source of the smoke, he would also find the home of the strange people.

They looked human for the most part. But on closer inspection, they soon painted a very different picture. Claws, sharp teeth, wild manes of hair that barely concealed wolf-like ears at the sides of their heads, and long fluffy tails at their backs. Wolfskins, they were apparently called, chimeric beastkin not too distantly related from humans.

Naturally, they were wary of him at first, toeing the line of overt hostility. A random human approaching a Wolfskin village, he'd soon learn, was rarely a good sign for the people here.

The tribe had been suffering attacks from poachers who sought their precious furs and wolves, taking them to be sold in human cities for gold and resources. At first, they believed he, too, was one of those wretched men. But he was new, a new human from a foreign place, a place that didn't deal in Wolfskin blood. Seeing this as an opportunity to turn a seemingly dangerous situation back around, William offered a trade: he and his crew would assist in protecting them in exchange for them not making an example of him... and, perhaps, helping to fix his ship.

The tribe leader would agree, if for nothing else than to keep the awful humans hunting them away. It took some time to get the ship back up to snuff, and this provided a perfect opportunity to learn more about those fascinating people. Their ways and customs, their language, and the nature of their magnificent beast forms. William soon found himself enjoying his time on the island and, in turn, his time with the people. He ended up staying a bit longer, even after his ship was ready. However, he would eventually have to return home to Fodlan.

Impressed by the nobility of this human and his pack, the tribe leader had made a friend in William and even offered a token of gratitude. The human could have easily cheated them out of their hard work or betrayed them to other humans for riches, but he didn't, and instead genuinely sought to care for them. In return, the Wolfskin tribe not only repaired his vessel, but also traded him all of his goods in exchange for textiles and the massive gold hordes they had in their village of Jarnvith, collected from digging out their home in the mountain. Apparently, they had no use for gold, preferring to trade useful items, trinkets, and oddities instead.

Before returning to the Empire, William swore an oath to the tribe leader that he would return one day with more to share, the tribe leader more than happy to show him hospitality again. When William returned to Enbarr, he set to work purchasing a parcel of land with the foreign gold, namely a space between Aegir and Hresvelg and a sizeable part of the Morgaine Ravine.

Bringing in his extended family to grow and manage the territory, this place would come to be known as the Barony of Isla, William becoming its first Baron and maintaining trade relations with the Wolfskin through their newly established port of Angr.

His eldest son, Tyrion von Isla I, would continue to improve relations with the Wolfskin further, even after the eventual death of William by old age. But as the situation in Jarnvith once again became precarious with opportunistic poachers and treasure seekers, Tyrion would set about steadily emigrating the tribe from their homeland to Fodlan. Unable to be in two places at once, he saw it best to oversee their protection personally in the Barony rather than pray the goddess had her eyes on their island, far from the influence of the church.

(Note: Some of this is loosely inspired by early discoveries of the Americas by Norse and European explorers/traders, with a considerable amount of creative liberty applied for obvious reasons.)

Defining Traits: White hair, gold eyes. Always wanted to be a dancer, even if it is not practical for combat, usually wears loose fitting, occasionally tight fitting flowy robes that give his movements a sense of airiness about them.

Brief Description/Backstory:

Percival was born in the Capital City of Boramas located in the lands belonging to the Aegir family. He worked in entertainment. He found it incredibly fulfilling to put a smile on a person's face, and he found great success in it. His family were simple commoners that worked as alchemists for the empire due to their experience and their own magical techniques that were handed down through the generations. The herbs and healing balms they made would be augmented by magic in a subtle way, preventing detection and increasing their potency. The family took to bribing a scribe to change his last name from Eris to Terpis. They'd intended to pass him off as a noble (that didn't actually exist according to record) to increase his prospects, but while teaching him the skills he needed to pass the Entrance Exam, they realized that he did have a crest, and it was in fact manifesting throughout most of his life. Specifically, the magic around him gives those near him improved vigor as long as he was channeling his magic to dance or while intaking herbs or healing balms.

He currently attends at and works for Garreg Mach as a fresh faced, new tutor and teaching assistant for apothecary related courses intended for those who wish to take on support roles but do not have the magical acumen to become a cleric. Alongside this, he fully intends to test his skills in the White Heron cup when he's able to attend his very first one.

A thing that occurs to me is how Claude acts a foil to Edelgard. During a GD run, he realizes that the Agarthans tried to feed him information to turn him against Rhea and the Church. Considering the timing of his brother’s invasion in Hopes, they could even have members active in Almyra as well. As such, Claude in Houses begins treating that information as suspect, at worst he doesn’t defend the Church from Edelgard’s attempts to wipe them out despite his beliefs while at best he realizes he was wrong about the Church. You could even explain his actions in Hopes as him never realizing the source of his info because of the lack of White Clouds, and as such never questions what he was led to believe because the Solon reveal after Solon was caught trying to feed him info never happened.

Now compare this to Edelgard, who blames Fodlan’s ills on the Church and formed her own ideals because of what her father told her. But prior to the event where she reveals her source, Hubert has an event where he explains that the Agarthans were the ones who experimented on Edelgard, killed her siblings, and made her father their puppet.  Not the nobility, like Edelgard previously claimed backed by Ionius himself blaming Aegir, but the group that consists of the likes of Solon and Kronya. And that this group has it in for the Church. Cornelia’s dying words reveal that while Edelgard may be the ones manipulating them, she is acting in such a manner that TWSITD believe she’s their puppet doing what they wanted her to do. What’s more is that Hopes reveals that Edelgard ignored how much influence the Agarthans had on the Imperial nobility, but she still goes to war in order to conquer Fodlan.

So Edelgard supposedly knows that her source was controlled by the Agarthans, she knows the Agarthans are against the Church with Thales himself telling her why they experimented on her, she deliberately ignores how much influence the Agarthans have on the corrupt Imperial nobility, and her going to war against Rhea was all part of the Agarthans’ plan.

At one point, I would have argued that Edelgard may be so traumatized by the experiments that she has this compulsive need to be the good guy and ignores reality. But with Hopes having her work for PR and knowledge of her information campaign in Houses, that really doesn’t seem to be the case. Even the Japanese lyrics to the game’s theme song make it out that Edelgard wavers before deciding to go through with the war during White Clouds. It ultimately is that Edelgard could have walked a righteous path, but instead went down the path she did so that she could get what she wanted.

Edelgard rejects the truth for her own desires, whereas Claude amended his ideals at the end of VW as part of his character growth. Edelgard is still going to fight for the ideals installed in her by the Agarthans as part of their plot, meaning her victory sees Fodlan as a whole be reshaped in their image (just not under their control). It’s why the villains win despite them being wiped out in the end cards.
