Paperinik/Duck Avenger/Superduck (English Translated Comic Collection)
Tumblr media
https://archive.org/details/paperinikduck-avengersuperduck-english-translated-comic-collection/ While Duck comics, in the US at least, waned in popularity long ago, it's a completely different story in other parts of the world, namely Europe. They never stopped loving Disney Duck comics, and continue to publish new stories featuring them, with Duck comics outselling both Marvel and DC... but that doesn't mean they didn't try their own hand at creating superheroes featuring the Ducks. Created in by Elisa Penna, Guido Martina, and Giovan Battista Carpi, "Paperinik" first appeared in a 1969 Italian Donald Duck comic story, featuring Donald continuing the legacy of an old famed thief, using his notes and some help from Gyro Gearloose, as he steals from the rich and acts as somewhat of an anti-hero.
Created initially as a response to readers requesting Donald getting a few of his own "wins" in the comics, the character developed over the years, with Paperinik eventually evolving into more of a superhero type character, and gained his own villains and allies, as his superhero persona grew as a character and grew in popularity.
Tumblr media
In the 90s, in an attempt to reinvent the character for a modern audience, a group of young artists were brought in to create a new comic line featuring the character, later admitting they were heavily inspired by Marvel Comics of the 90s, called "Paperinik New Adventures". Duckburg was reimagined as a sprawling metropolis, and while the basic history of the character remained the same, he found a new ally through the intelligent AI known as One, who helps him through new gadgets made by his creator Everett Ducklair, as they fight off an alien race known as the Evronians who are hellbent on destroying the planet and sucking the life energy out of everyone on it. Along the way they meet new villains, and gain new allies such as a robot woman from the future known as Lyla, and an alien with a tragic past known as Xadhoom, while also dealing with reporter Angus Fangus, who constantly tries to smear the hero’s good name.
The comic line was a success, going for 3 #0 issues, 50 mainline issues, and a sequel comic which ran for 18 issues and its own special. The comic was also briefly rebooted as "Pikappa" and ran for 32 issues.
Classic Paperinik stories continued to be made during and after this, and during the 2010s, the PKNA continuity returned under the "New Era" brand name, and also continue to be made to this day. Classic Paperinik also continues, with it even crossing over with various PKNA stuff during the "PK Universe" comic.
This collection is an attempt to gather every Paperinik story currently translated into English in one place. There's of course the issue of how to exactly name this collection, as "Paperinik" has two official English names.
Tumblr media
During the 70s and 80s, a few Paperinik stories were translated into English and released in a few collections where he was named "Superduck", although these translations appear to be lost. During the early 2000s, Disney Adventures would publish their own Paperinik story in the pages of the magazine, naming him "Duck Avenger", to match with the magazine's initials. This name carried over to a few comic translations done by Gemstone in the early 2000s. When Boom Comics got the license to republish Duck comics, they used the Duck Avenger name as well... but when Disney started to put up additional Paperinik comics on the ComiXology app, they used the earlier translated name of "Superduck", both for their revised re-releases of the "Ultraheroes" crossover comic, and also for the official translations of the first 13 Pikappa comics and a few classic stories. However, once the license moved over to IDW and Fantagraphics, the "Duck Avenger" name was reinstated, and seems to have been used on everything since then.
I simply decided to use all three names for the top folder/title, and used what official English names we have for the specific series when labeling the inner folders, and used the Italian original name when an official English name didn’t exist.
Tumblr media
This comic collects almost all of the official translations that exist of the Paperinik comics. Specifically, those by IDW, Gemstone, Boom, Disney ComiXology, and those by Fantagraphics. Whenever an official translation exists, that's presented as the default/proper version.
Tumblr media
Additionally, I've included what I believe to be every single fan translation/scanlation that exists for the series. This includes translations of classic Paperinik comics, though those are greatly scattered and are definitely not comprehensive by a long shot. A lot of these were done by different translators, and because of this, the names used in each translation vary. Some adopt the "Duck Avenger" name, some use the "Superduck" name, and some simply use the "Paperinik" name. This carries over to other Paperinik exclusive characters such as Daisy's alterego Paperinika, which is Super Daisy in the official translations, but the "Duck Defender" in the fan translations (admittedly due to the suckiness of the official name), the great thief Donald took after, Fantomius (Fantomallard or the Phantom Thief in the official translations), etc. So don't expect great consistency with the names.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, all of PKNA, P2, and the remaining issues of Pikappa were fully fan translated. All of these simply adopt the "Duck Avenger" name, so it's consistent thankfully (although due to Pikappa using the "Superduck" name in the official translation and “Duck Avenger” in the fan translation, the name isn’t consistent for the reboot's issues unfortunately).
Translators are fully credited within the file names, as I'd feel like a jerk if I didn't, and they deserve credit for the awesome work they've done. Although for the PKNA issues, I simply credited them to the "PKNA Translation Project". Some sources mistakenly credit them all to Banker, due to the available issues mainly being available to download only on his website, but, while he did translate a good chunk of them, the PKNA translations were actually done by a group of people. Headed by Lord Birch, who did a good number of the translations themselves, I unfortunately couldn't find a credit list listing who translated each individual issue. So, I simply credited the team, just remember that Birch and Banker did a good number of them along with a few other people.
Tumblr media
For the “New Era” comics, I’ve included all of Banker’s translations of the first seven issues. I’ve also included @donphanti's scanlation of the 9th story, @uncaaj’s scanlations of stories 10-13, and @pktheduckavenger’s scanlations of stories 14 and 15. Unca AJ also retranslated a few prior PK stories, which are included as alternatives.
I've included a bunch of extra comics as well, namely one-off stories and stuff connected to PKNA, such as the Disney Adventures comic, the video game tie-in comic, and a few anniversary strips.
Tumblr media
Additionally, I've included all of the translated "Double Duck" comics I could find. For those who don't know, Double Duck was a comic with a similar premise of Donald having an alter-ego, although this time he was a super smart secret agent known as "Double Duck". Early issues already stated that he was the Duck Avenger on top of his secret agent gig, but eventually a full blown crossover comic was made with the PKNA series, confirming that they took place in the same universe and were the same Donald, just from different points in time. Because of this, I've included all 5 stories officially translated by either Boom Comics or Disney ComiXology, and also 18 out of Banker's 21 translations of later stories (sadly three story translations have dead download links and they don't seem to be mirrored anywhere), plus his translation of the crossover.
I’ve also included three translated “Mickey Mouse Mystery Magazine” issues, which feature Mickey as a detective in a city known as Anderville. Made by a ton of the same staff as PKNA, I’ve heard rumors that there were plans at one point for a possible crossover, although I’m unsure. Still, I’ve included it due to the connection.
Tumblr media
As an additional note, in cases where a story is only available in a TPB and is only one story of a TPB, I’ve included only an extract of it as part of the main collection, but the full TPB is included in full as an extra. The only exception is issues 4 and 5 of of PKNA, as they were only released in the TPB collection, and it only covers PKNA material in a collected format.
I believe this is the most complete/definitive collection of Paperinik/Duck Avenger/Superduck comics, at least that currently exist as of 4/2/2025. Only known missing scanlations (that currently exist) are Banker’s translations of Double Duck stories 7, 12, and 15. And the only known missing official translations are from old obscure and rare UK collections. Those include Donald Duck # 13 (1975), Jumbo Book #1 Superduck saves the day! (1985), Donald Duck Fun Library #8 (1978), Donald Duck Fun Library #10 (Unknown Date, Maybe the 70s?), and Donald Duck Fun Library #14 (Unknown Date).
If any new scanlations or translations are made, let me know! I’ll update the collection. But for those looking to get into Paperinik and don’t know where to look, hopefully this can be a great resource for you.
Enjoy!
Tumblr media
EDIT: Forgot to mention, during my research, I found a fansite called "Phantom Duck", which goes over a lot of the history of the Paperinik character's life and origins. This includes a detailed breakdown of the character, his gadgets, his hideout, and notably, his origins, which explains some stuff from comics currently not translated into English. There's also a ton of information about the great thief he is the successor to, Fantomius, who also gets a very detailed history section. The website doesn't seem to be finished, with a lot of pages being "Under Construction", but what pages are there are very interesting and insightful, especially for someone just getting into Paperinik as a character, even though it only focuses on the classic version of the character and doesn't really delve into the PKNA stuff. So, I converted every working page into a PDF, and then converted that into a high quality CBZ file!

Did you see what Ryoko Kui said about sharing the Blu-ray what if manga?
I did see but I thought everyone knew these scans both of the manga and the bluray's was piracy?
Her request is pretty common and she did a similar one about daydream hour and adventures bible in her blog
I was avoiding posting the what ifs on the blog at first from how new they were (same with the post canon extras a couple months back that's why I would respond saying to look for them in the subreddit) so I have no problem going back and removing them from the post but I hope everyone realizes that's what we have been doing.
If you want to support Kui please buy the manga or adventures bible since the blurays aren't out this side of the globe yet (and are SUPER expensive)
Edit: I did remove them from my blog just because they just came out, since it's an incentive for people to buy and I imagine most sales happen early on. But just remember if nobody did piracy we would still be waiting for an english translation of the last volume and of the new adventurer's bible. We would also have no translated daydream hour.

This post contains links to English translations of all four of the Trip's Strip mini comics from the PKNA series! Each comic was written by Bruno Enna, illustrated by Silvia Ziche, and edited/translated by yours truly. That's right, I couldn't find them in English anywhere on the internet so I DID IT MYSELF! ENJOY!!!
DISCLAIMER: I would not recommend reading these comics BEFORE you've read PKNA #34 "Nothing Personal" as the first comic in this series directly relates to the plot of that story.
Trip's Strip
Tumblr media
Originally paired with PKNA #34 "Nothing Personal" Translation link INDUCKS link
Notes: The narrator in these comics is originally referred to as "Dida", taken from the Italian word "didascalia" meaning "caption". I just changed the name to Caption in full because I couldn't think of a way to pull a catchy nickname out of the English word.
An Amoeba on the Neck
Tumblr media
Originally paired with PKNA #40 "A Single Breath" Translation link INDUCKS link
Notes: No notable translation edits here but shoutout to Trip for trying to get out of his schoolwork by choking himself to death in front of his class.
An Ego in a Haystack
Tumblr media
Originally paired with PKNA #41 "Agdy Days" Translation link INDUCKS link
Notes: The original title is a bit more clever in Italian, as the Italian word for "needle" is "ago" which sounds close to the word "ego" (which is the same in both languages). The speech impediment bit was also hard to translate because the jokes are about words that sound similar to each other in Italian, but they don't sound similar in English. I kept those translations pretty direct because I thought it was really funny that the sentences don't sound anything like each other.
The I That Is Not Me
Tumblr media
Originally paired with PKNA #42 "The Ulysses Syndrome" Translation link INDUCKS link
Notes: Title sounds weird but it's just kinda like that. The Raider speaks in a lot of Italian idioms that don't make any sense when translated to English (or aren't common enough among English speakers to be understood) so I had to change some of his dialogue completely. The joke is that he's saying proverbs that don't make any sense in the moment though (with cow puns added in).
This is my first time scanlating anything, sorry if some of the comics are low quality but I had to really scrape the internet to find scans of these at all. Please let me know if any of the links aren't working, otherwise enjoy!

Donald Duck "Mr. Adventurer" Comic Scanlation
First of all, I need to express my gratitude for Quackie @3rdexistence, who volunteered to help me when I sent out a request to give me photos of this comic. Not only did he buy the comic and send me photos of every page, but he also volunteered to scan and translate it into English! This is his first time doing a scanlation, and he did a great job. He even included some additional notes about the original German text. He didn't have to do this at all, and I'm so thankful he was this generous. You're fantastic, Quackie. Go give him some love! He also gave me permission to post this to my blog, so thank you for that!
This is a pretty recent comic -- it came out on May 10th, and I've been super excited to share it.
Now, what is this comic about?
Well, not to spoil anything... Actually I tagged the big surprise, but I'll try to keep it under the cut anyway.
The story is about Donald becoming upset after he discovers a new TV is stealing its plots from his and his nephews' adventures. Convinced the culprit is Uncle Scrooge, his mission to bring the plagiarizer to justice will take him to realizations he never could have expected...
Gladstone also joins in on the adventure, so that's fun!

Magic Kaito: The Phantom Thief Reborn now Remastered!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Read: The Phantom Thief Reborn (蘇る盗), Remastered Edition!]
1987.
On this day, May 27, history was made. In California the Golden Gate Bridge turned fifty, having survived enough paraders to sink an aircraft carrier. In Vienna, Portugal smashed the Germans for the European Cup—its first in twenty-five years. Along the Baltic a crazy little pilot was completing a course that would shake the Soviet Bloc 'til nothing was left,
And all through Japan, Shogakukan was hawking its latest product: Weekly Shonen Sunday, Vol. 29, Issue 26. Latest—and perhaps greatest. The lineup spoke for itself: Osamu Ishiwata's B.B.! Mitsuru Adachi's Rough! Action! Intrigue! Bikers! Baseball! Robots! War! A girlfriend or two, even!
Oh, and some hick from Tottori started something called Magic Kaito.
"Keh heh heh," the old hands must've chuckled as they dragged their Marlboros. "Kid wins one contest and thinks he's an artist. How long d'ya say he lasts? Three months? Two?"
It's 2023 now, and Mr. Kuroba's still laying flowers on all their graves.
What's there left to say about this Thief of Thieves, this Moonlight Magician who continues to thrill, tease, and tempt us so? Five volumes of manga, a nub of screentime every three or four years... and he might well claim more fans—or at least fanworks—than anyone else in the Conan machine. Not excepting the little Meitantei himself.
Today, we celebrate him in the grand tradition of overambitious weebs: with a reissue of his original adventures, every panel and page retranslated and redone in HD (whatever the hell the manga equivalent of that is). Starting here, with his secret origin—and following Sunday's original publication run right to the end! Or 'til Shogakukan C&D's us all into oblivion.
In any case, we hope you'll be joining us on this joyride. Whether you fell in love with him since that very first Thai-to-Eng scanlation, or you learned "Hey, the hat guy from Conan has his own series?!" just yesterday, there's something here for everyone.
Now, as a wise man once said: Show no hajimarida!

2024 Year roundup! (Part 2)
小さなお茶会 (Chiisana Ochakai), Nekojuujisha
グーグーだって猫である (Gou Gou Datte Neko de Aru), Yumiko Oshima
さとう菓子の家 (Satou Gashi no Ie), Kyouko Fumizuki
ドラゴンクエスト ダイの大冒険 (Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai), Riku Sanjo & Koji Inada [Trans. Gregory Werner]
巨人の星 (Kyojin no Hoshi), Ikki Kajiwara & Noboru Kawasaki
わたしは真悟 (My Name Is Shingo), Kazuo Umezz [Trans. Jocelyn Allen]
What more can be said about Kyojin no Hoshi.... its one of the pillars of timeless manga references in manga. Essays about the excessive but beautiful and real emotions of the characters have been written since its serialization in the 60's. The near textual romance between the protagonist and his best friend had the first generation of fujoshis go: "wait, there's something going on here", the scenes of Hoshi's father almost killing his son in the name of baseball regularly go viral on Japanese social media. It's a series where u have to shut off the cinemasins in your brain that want to ding the ridiculous scenes and contrived reasons for why just about anything happens or works. Let its emotional narrative and what it has to say about the great human cost of professional sports not just wash over you but swallow you whole then spit you out by the end. Truly a pillar in the sports genre. (And currently being scanlated!)

Digimon Next (2005) - Volume 2
Another volume finished of this easy-breezy read. It's extremely unmemorable, but not as bad as the manga adapting anime series at least. You can really sense the audience whenever they make a poop joke (which is often). I wonder if there are any Digimon manga out there with a teen audience in mind? (Or adult, I guess, but that seems unlikely).
Ch. 7
So far only Agumon has his adult/champion digivolution. Wonder how long it will take for Ami and Yuu's digimon to improve? (Not that it will be that exciting to see the Gaomon evolution line again lol)
I like the idea of collecting the digitama of your enemies and raising them to be good digimon. Have they done that concept in the games yet? You kinda can do that in Digimon Story but it's not digitama but scanned data, which is different.
Ch. 8
This manga is very "battle of the week" (but battle of the chapter I guess). I guess that's most of digimon, but I wish they'd play with the format more.
Sunflowmon was HUGE in this chapter! I'm not really sure if they drew them bigger than in the anime because they were kinda always flying around in the anime so it was hard to gauge.
Gaomon looked really cute all mummified, he also went full doggy-mode at one point (four legs on the ground looks really funny when the front paws are boxing gloves lol).
Ami was acting really patronizing to Yuu about his disability. I'm not sure if it was supposed to come off that way or not, but he seemed uncomfortable with being babied. It's interesting that he doesn't really want to be a big hero, he just wants to stay in the digital world because his condition doesn't exist there. (It would be interesting to see a human just settle down and live in the digital world. I guess that would be like Ikuto or Masaru but they seemed pretty nomadic).
Ch. 9
Wowwww, they literally just copied an episode from Digimon Adventure here with Meramon being controlled by a dark gear black digicore and burning everything up. Can we please get some originality in this manga? -_-
Yuu's digisoul activates so that Gaomon can digivolve, but it's unstable so the digivolution is incomplete. Not sure if that's been done yet. It didn't really affect the battle at all so 🤷‍♀️
You're telling me that Tsurugi was a pro digimon battler with his vpet yet he doesn't know that you don't fight a fire digimon with fire?? So dumb🤦‍♀️
"Eyebrow dog" was pretty funny, ngl
Ch. 10
Whoever did the scanlation of this manga romanized Norn as "Norun" which has me very confused because that's not a name lol. The digimon wikis made me realize it's "Norn" which makes a lot more sense (can't help but be reminded of Creatures)
I wanted to laugh when they revealed Norn's character design. The over the top gothic lolita look looks pretty tacky nowadays, but I ate that shit up in middle school. You know I'd be doodling her in my notebooks lol.
Is Norn supposed to be Shou's sister? I swear this is giving me MAJOR V-Tamer deja vu again
Apparently everyone has known each other for a long time? I feel like I did not get that impression for Yuu because Ami was like explaining his heart condition to Tsurugi. I guess she was just reminding him.
Shou's kinda reminding me of Ken in his Digimon Emperor era. At least he's nice to his digimon though. It's an interesting choice to give the rival/villain character a bird digimon. Those are usually given to side characters.
Ch. 11
A lot of stereotypical things happened this chapter that kinda made me roll my eyes. The kids getting lured into a seemingly nice inn that's obviously a trap is something we've seen many times in this franchise. Ami being jealous when Angewomon gets flirty with Tsurugi (and has a bigger chest than her) also felt like super generic anime writing. I guess Ami is going to be paired with Tsurugi then (because her only character trait is "girl.")
The way Ami's mother's death was abruptly mentioned via flashback was so clunky. They should have maybe given that plot point at least a whole fleshed out chapter or something cuz it felt super shoehorned in.
I feel like Yuu jumped super quickly from not wanting to fight to wanting to be a master tamer basically. His bond with Trailmon felt kind of forced as well. I feel like his role in the story is to make Tsurugi seem cooler (because he looks up to him).
Gaomon getting jealous of Trailmon was kinda cute. The digimon art continues to be really nice and expressive.
Omg the inn keeper Tailmon were so cute <3 (even though they were evil lol). I want to see more digimon in the service/hospitality industry just doing mundane stuff lol. Where's my slice-of-life series? (I've been watching Pokemon Concierge recently)
Ami being tricked into bathing in motor oil was kinda fucked up...
Ch. 12
A very Trailmon-centric chapter. Thomas the Tank Engine vibes lol. Fave panels were GeoGreymon sitting on top of Trailmon and Trailmon revealing his battle form (a little boy's dream haha)
The more futuristic Trailmon that the Commandments are using is interesting. Instead of its face being at the head/nose of the train it's kind of at the feet, with its mouth "eating" the tracks. That seems like an awkward existence...
I know it's not the same, but the "Light City" reminds me of Sunshine City in the Digimon Story game I'm playing now. They called it the "City of Beginnings" though which I find weird. That's usually reserved for the place where digimon are born, but in this case it just seems like the place where humans are isekai'd lol.
There's an explanation of the Digimon alphabet at the end of this chapter which I cannot be bothered to learn. It would be cool to print out a cheat sheet though. I wonder how consistent it is across the different series? 🤔 I really appreciate that they committed to an actual language instead of gibberish (although it's kinda just fantasy Japanese I guess)
