The Definition of Jikook: Through Others Eyes

“Becca, how would you define Jikook?” In the last few months I have been asked this several times. And not by Jikookers. Since my bad experiences with offline events, I decided (in typical “me” fashion) to just throw myself out there and keep moving forward. This included joining more Twitter GC’s or Discord Servers and going to more offline events. In one of the most recent events, I lived locally and wanted to help. Therefore, I offered to escort some anxious Army from the train station to the venue.

Anyway, I was still cautious about going and, though there were a few odd moments, the event went really well overall. Something else kindled during this event that I did not expect: The desire to talk more about jikook. Before, even mentioning Jikook as a unit and not as Jimin and Jungkook was almost seen as a taboo. Especially compared to the other units that we are familiar with. Due to me no longer giving a damn and using my main twitter account, people relating to the event knew who I was and they had questions. Very interesting questions. About Jikook. About their enlistment. About the travel show. This was a pleasant surprise and it shocked me that some of these people already knew quite a lot without me telling them anything. Including some information that I thought was only in the Jikook circles. I asked one person why they didn’t talk about Jikook as much on Twitter and they said because they were scared with all the shipper fights. Which is quite valid really. If all you see whenever Jikook is mentioned is constant fighting, then you would distance yourself. It made me realise something though: 

Even if someone isn’t talking about Jikook. They are still watching and are very much aware of what is going on.

Sometimes we amplify the wrong things and we give the loudest voices to the negative comments. When I do the Live Reactions series, I will sometimes have hundreds of positive screenshots to go through and then(somehow) pick twenty-five of them for the thread. It was really interesting to see so many people talking about Jungkook going Live whenever Jimin went overseas or about the travel show. It also reminded some of moments that were sadly forgotten about.

This touches on something else too. Our traditions as a fandom have somewhat changed. With the removal of the social media awards, we no longer boost BTS’ history like we used to. Elon has also changed how we find content, with the removal of “moments” and advanced searching now being really difficult to find things. There is still hope though. With Jin’s return, it was lovely to see so many asking about Jin as a person or how Festa would work. Sharing old memories and watching Bang Bang Con together added so much value to our experiences together as a fandom.It’s something we should treasure. 

BTS have shared so much with us and it’s why I’ll forever be thankful for archive accounts. With every post or comment shared with others, we encourage them to learn more about the members or to watch content they may not have seen before. I experienced this myself when I mentioned Bon Voyage to someone who didn’t know what it was. They had only watched “In the Soop” and were excited by the concept of the members going abroad together. I hope they enjoy it!

Going back to Jikook, I have seen an increase of positive engagement surrounding them. This includes in both online and offline spaces. It makes me excited for when the travel show comes out and the conversations it will create, with so many already floating around. When I am asked how I define them myself, I try to turn it around. It doesn’t matter what I think about Jikook or how I define them. That should be obvious by my account. What matters is how others do and the respect that it holds.

A Beginner's Guide to Epic: The Musical

Are you new to Epic: The Musical and overwhelmed by four years worth of content to go through? This is for you! (Note that this is a work in progress post that will be added to in the future as new information and Sagas are released).

LAST UPDATED: 09/01/24

*There will be some spoilers in this! The Odyssey is thousands of years old, but Epic: The Musical is an adaptation, meaning things are different. I recommend listening to all the songs in Epic before reading this, as this guide is intended to clear up misunderstandings/confusing moments and provide context.

**All of the underlined bits are links to whatever it is I'm referring to, just in case I'm making no sense. I will try to include sources for everything, or at least indicate where I got certain information from if there's no link available.

General Info:

*This is basic information about Epic: The Musical as a whole. This includes where to find new information and content, BTS things, etc.

• First of all, here's a quick rundown by the creator himself. There'll be some overlap in terms of what I cover here.

• Epic: The Musical is created by Jorge Rivera-Herrans, often referred to as "Jay" or "Mr. Jalapeño" by his fans. This is who writes the songs, casts the characters, and voices Odysseus himself!

• Epic: The Musical was originally (pre-Ocean Saga) produced under Blair Russell Productions, but Jay has never been paid the royalties from the songs released under them (and they have yet to give back control of the Epic social media accounts), so Epic is now produced under Jay's own company, Winion Entertainment LLC. (source)

• Jay is most active on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter. All videos that he posts to these platforms are generally the same, so don't worry if you can't follow him on all of them. He talks about several Epic-related things, including release dates, BTS, animatics, details about the music/story, snippets of released and unreleased songs, and also plenty of funny videos. He is very active within the fanbase, and you're likely to find him (and other cast members) leaving comments on posts by fans!

• Here are Jay's other links, including the Epic: The Musical Discord server. In my experience, the Discord server and Tiktok are the best places to get information as quickly as possible.

• Epic is still in progress. As of the latest update to this guide (09/01/24), the Wisdom Saga has just been released last week, leaving only two more sagas before the end. The songs are all part of a concept album, and there is currently no stage adaptation.

• Jay takes many creative liberties with The Odyssey for the sake of this adaptation of the story. He made a video recently explicitly saying to NOT use Epic as a basis for your knowledge of The Odyssey, at least when it comes to academic settings. Many of the things that occur in Epic DO NOT occur in the original story, and some parts of the original story have been cut out. Here is a video where Jay explains the purpose of Epic as an adaption. (I won't be including a list of differences in this post, but I might make a separate one if anyone's interested.)

• Although Epic takes a lot of these creative liberties, there are several little easter eggs sprinkled in among the actual plot points from The Odyssey. (I'll go into these later.)

• Jay will usually do a recap video before each new saga, going over all the events of the previous sagas for any newcomers.

• When a new saga is released, Jay will hold a LIVE listen-through. I highly recommend being there for these events, because they include lots of cool and important things such as:

official animations, animatics, and artwork, all of which provide insights into character design and events within the songs

Jay's live reactions (his facial expressions and little dances/lip-syncs are delightful)

details about the events within the songs that aren't made clear within the music itself (like what a character is doing, what is happening around them, etc)

Jay's comments in the LIVE chat, which includes details/easter eggs, BTS stuff, jokes, headcanons, and LOTS of love and praise for the actors and fans!

• Seeing as there is no stage adaptation for Epic, a lot of the visual elements come from artists and animatics/animations. Jay actually works with several of these artists for official trailers, artwork, and animatics/animations! Some of these artists include: Ainhoa Velasco, @wolfythewitch, @gigizetz, @_mircsy_, @drawing_angie, @anniflamma, Scilla_nimation, el_crafts, samantha_artt, and Giulia Toneatto. These people are all incredibly talented and deserve all the love from the Epic fanbase!

Info About the Music:

*I am not musically adept at all, and this post is already very long, so I am not going to list much specific information—just general common themes and some examples of them. Most of this information has been confirmed by Jay, in videos that I've linked below.

• If you're having trouble understanding the lyrics and/or the meaning behind the lyrics, Genius lyrics has the entire album and is full of helpful notes about the context within the musical. A lot of lyrics get misheard, so even if you think you understand what's being sung, I'd recommend checking just in case lol.

• The Troy Saga and The Cyclops Saga have been rereleased under Winion Entertainment LLC! This includes new vocals, altered music, etc. These were released alongside The Thunder Saga, along with new cover art. It's preferred that you listen to these versions of the songs, and NOT the originals, because Jay only gets royalties from the current ones.

• Many characters have their own musical motif, or even multiple motifs. There are also other motifs that are more general, like the "Danger is Nearby" motif.

• Many important characters have their own instrument that plays an integral part to the songs they're in. You can typically tell which instrument accompanies each character by listening to what is most prominent in a song that focuses on that character. (ex. Hermes with harps and the lyre, Athena with the piano)

• If you hear a character's musical motif or associated instrument in a song they don't play an integral part in, that can mean a few things (listed below). With the more general motifs, they have their own separate meanings outside of the characters.

That character is present, even if they're not singing. (ex. Hermes in "Puppeteer," signifying that he's listening to Odysseus' speech, which is brought up at the beginning of "Wouldn't You Like")

That character is related to whatever event/conversation is occurring. (ex. the same musical motif in "Ruthlessness" and "Storm," signifying that Poseidon is the one that sent the crazy storm)

The kind of instrument being played can indicate the emotion or tone of a scene. This is scene primarily with Odysseus, where the use of a nylon or acoustic guitar indicates that he is not being ruthless (source).

• When background vocals are accompanying a mortal, there is always a physical, in-universe source for those voices (ex. Odysseus' crew as background vocals in most of his songs). When background vocals are accompanying a god or other powerful being, there does not have to be a physical source for those voices—gods can basically summon a choir of voices at will (ex. "Ruthlessness"). (video explanation)

• Background chanting specifically is a common element in Epic songs. Typically, this chanting consists of the names of characters present/focused on in the song (as seen [heard?] in "Survive," "Ruthlessness," and "King").

Unclear/Vague Moments Explained:

*Some of the plot points, characters, etc. in Epic can be confusing on the first or second listen. So, I'll clear up some of the common things people (including myself) didn't notice or understand at first.

• The deep voice at the end of "The Horse and the Infant" is Zeus, voiced by Luke Holt. Zeus shows Odysseus a vision of Astyanax, the infant son of Hector, and tells him to kill the child.

• Odysseus drops Astyanax from the walls of Troy at the end of "Just a Man." Many people didn't catch this until the callback in "Monster" at the end of Act 2.

• "Warrior of the Mind" is quite confusing to those that don't have context. It is a flashback to a younger Odysseus, when he first met Athena and took her as a mentor.

• Athena has an ability called "Quick-Thought," which lets her have telepathic conversations with someone within milliseconds by pulling their mind into another dimension.

• Polites dies at the end of "Survive." He is the voice saying "Captain...". (I didn't realize this for a good while when I first started listening to Epic.)

• The voice telling Odysseus to wake up in "Keep Your Friends Close" is Penelope, not Aeolus.

• The lil' guys in "Keep Your Friends Close" are called winions (they're also the Lotus Eaters in "Open Arms"). Jay describes them as "little wind creatures that dance when they get excited and then float away uncontrollably." They don't actually exist in The Odyssey, but they're pretty cute!

• At the end of "Ruthlessness," the line "remember me" is said by Poseidon, who's basically sending his voice through the ocean fog (since Odysseus is very, very far away from him now).

• In "Done For," the yelling you are hearing in the background is essentially a Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh battle between Circe's chimera and the monster Odysseus summons using the moly plant given to him by Hermes. There is an animatic by mircsy to serve as a visual aide, which I find very helpful!

• In "There Are Other Ways," Circe was holding a knife and planning to stab Odysseus as she tried to seduce him. When he pulls away and rejects her, she quickly hides the knife.

• In "The Underworld," shades (souls) are in a constant loop, repeating whatever they were thinking when they died. Tiresias is an exception to this rule, seemingly because of him being such a powerful prophet. (confirmed in "The Underworld Saga" LIVE listen-through)

• I feel like this is fairly clear, but for those that aren't familiar with The Odyssey, I'll say it anyways. (Spoilers? I guess?) The prophecy in "No Longer You" is SUPER heavy on the foreshadowing. I won't go into it here, since many people already have, but let's just say the Greeks were big on self-fulfilling prophecies.

• As mentioned previously, background chanting is a big thing in Epic. In "No Longer You," the background chanting also serves as a prophecy detailing the future events of Odysseus's journey. Currently, only part of these lyrics have been confirmed by Jay: "SIREN SONG - SCYLLA THROAT - MUTINY - LIGHTNING BOLT." This leaves two lines that are not confirmed.

• In "Mutiny," after Odysseus is stabbed, he is tied up and knocked out before the crew sails to the nearest island. Right before he says to get to the boat and row away, he manages to untie himself.

Fun Facts/Easter Eggs:

• Circe is voiced by Jay's girlfriend, Talya Sindel.

• When Poseidon kills off most of Odysseus' crew in "Ruthlessness," he says that there are only 43 men left. But in "The Underworld," the souls of his crew say that 558 men died under his command. Considering Odysseus started off with 600 men ("Full Speed Ahead"), this math doesn't add up. This is because in The Odyssey, when Odysseus and his men party with Circe for a year, a man in his crew named Elpenor woke up drunk on Circe's roof and proceeded to walk off the roof and die from the fall. He actually has a cut song.

• Jay messed up the amount of years in "There Are Other Ways." It had not been 12 years, but 10. This little screw-up is referenced in "Different Beast."

• Odysseus' mother is voiced by Jay's actual mother.

• If you see people commenting "rawr rawr rawr" or "🦖" on Jay's videos, they're referencing his April Fool's prank this year. He made a video saying he'd completely changed the Act 2 closing song, "Monster," and proceeded to play a happy-go-lucky sounding song going "I am the monster, rawr rawr rawr."

• In every single saga, Odysseus says "what." in an absolutely bamboozled manner (or "huh" in The Troy Saga, and he does it twice in The Ocean Saga). It happens in "Open Arms," "Polyphemus," "Keep Your Friends Close," "Puppeteer," and "No Longer You." Occasionally, this "what" will be said by a different character (Poseidon in "Ruthlessness," the siren in "Different Beast")

• Perimedes (another man in Odysseus' crew, who lives all the way until "Thunder Bringer") and Elpenor were best friends.

In honor of the Tiny Boats raffle, the @ofmd-buys-boats team had an Interview with our dear Set Dresser, Lindsey Cantrell! You can read the full thing on their substack-- here's a sneak preview!

They were kind enough to let me share the info here as well!

"Amy: What was your favourite set to dress? Linds: What a hard question. The favorite that first comes to mind is John Bartholomew's Captain's Quarters. The scene where Zheng Yi Sao leads a raid on Bartholomew's ship, and then convinces him to join her crew. The day we were going to shoot this scene was pulled up in the schedule, so during a few lunches and a few private rehearsals, I was brought over to the unfinished set to get my opinion on the status of its dress. What to add, where to move items, take away, etc. And it needed to get done quickly. We were pulling dressing from all over. Production Designer Ra and Art Director Troy really wanted it to be layered. They were discussing someone who'd lived in that space for ages. Our Set Dec team left the bones of it in a good place, but on the day we went to shoot it, we still scrambled a bit throwing items together for more chaos (some good ideas, some bad- ie: a stool ended up on top of a dresser?) I still love the way the lighting was shot through those windows and how it all came together. Plus, didn't that charcuterie look delicious?"

"Amy: Speaking of the tiny boats, we’d be remiss if we didn’t ask about them too - how did you make them and how long did it take you? I can testify from making repairs to our broken ones that they’re fiddly little things! Linds: Yes they are! The strain on my eyes that week! The bases of these tiny ships are custom lead molds created in the Propmakers Workshop. Next, painted and aged brown. Then, one by one I stabilized them and carefully drilled one tiny hole in the semi-center of each ship's base. Hoping each time that I didn't push too hard or for too long, potentially breaking through to the bottom. So I held my breath and got through all of that step. Off to the side, I had the makings for the tiny flags. I painted and aged what felt like a million toothpicks to start. Trimming off the bottoms of one end so they would sit flat inside my pre-drilled hole. I cut the different pieces of construction paper in a tiny triangle with one flat end, and put a line of glue on that side to place underneath a toothpick and rolled it over to hold. Some bits of my fingertips are definitely attached to the glue inside those tricky little flags. When my deadline was getting closer, I started to just begin placing the dried flags inside the bases the next day. Until I found some of them falling over by the time I came back from lunch. So then I realized I needed to add one tiny drop of super glue into the hole first. The final precise measure was making sure when I held the flag down to attach, that I was holding it straight up & down. Sounds easy enough, but if you're only looking at one side, you may be pushing the flag down and away. So if you check your other angles afterward, you'd notice it's leaning to that opposite side, as if the tiny ship is in a storm, someone told me. [...]"

Life can be so damn hard and sometimes it feels like you just aren't making any progress... or your impact isn't as big as you want it to be.

November Prompt 30: Roadtrip

Words: 491 | Pairing: Golden Trio, Fred & George Weasley x reader

It isn’t until you find yourself walking up to the old, rusted blue Ford Anglia that you realize the two Weasley twins were very serious about this roadtrip. But come to think of it, you can’t remember a time they’d mentioned doing something and not following through.

Walking alongside a yawning Harry, you can make out Fred and George’s hushed argument about who’s to drive the car. You glance over wearily at Harry, but the darkness is enough to shield your slight irritation.

Ron and Hermione join soon enough with the four of you already waiting inside the warmth of the car as they pack their trunks inside the trunk. Thanks to the car’s extension charm there’s enough space for the belongings of more than six. Even your best friend Solora would be tagging along too on the way back from the cozy cottage near the seaside far from here.

You stare out the window, feeling excited once the car finally takes off, courtesy of George. You’re happy you’ll have your best friends by your side for one last adventure before the start of your adult lives and with graduation now behind you all. The sky is painting salmon pinks and golden yellows across periwinkle colored clouds on the early morning horizon and seeing it from the view in the sky makes it much more awe-worthy.

Fred and George had planned the entire thing out. They knew how much you loved the sunrises and sunsets, so everything had to perfect. You can imagine their chuckling as they browsed for snacks, probably even throwing a few prank ones from their shop into the basket for added fun for everyone once you reached the cottage. Their spontaneity is the very reason you agreed to the pair coming.

Laughter floods the front of the car on Fred and George’s behalf and Ron seems to have made himself a makeshift bed against Hermione’s shoulder. His soft snores gaining a giggle from her as she attempts to read a book while occasionally stealing glances of the sunrise from the window. Harry rests against your shoulder as well, watching the sunrise with you and holding your hand underneath the blanket he’d brought along for the ride. It’s fit across the four of you in the backseat, keeping you all warm in the coolness of the frosted morning.

Flying through the air for this trip reminds you of the time Ron had broken Harry out of his aunt’s house in your second year. That was the last story you’d heard of the car. And reminiscing on the old times brings your attention from the sunrise to Harry. He’s so close, you can feel your breath mixing between the two of you and that closeness makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. The closeness makes you think of all you’ve been through together and makes you ecstatic to see where this roadtrip called life will lead you all now.

Tae is NOT the 1st idol to go public with his relationship. You said the only idol you know except bts is taeyong, that's the problem. Oh btw this taeyong also went public with his relationship with actress and eventually got married. Many second gen idols have gone public with their relationships. If we talk about 3rd gen, Kai literally did a photoshoot with his then gf (Krystal) there were many exposed pics of them also just like Taennie. Another exo member is literally married amidt of protests from all sides. Lisa was/is publiclly going out with her bf no matter what her stans are saying. Momo of twice attended variety show her idol bf was hosting and he was teased about his gf at an award show stage by mc. Just Google Hyuna and Dawn, two idols who were dragged through hell for dating.. still didn't gave af and dated very publicly for years. They are absolute legends when it comes to kpop dating. Jisoo was the one who informed dispatch about her relationship and announced it on her terms and continued her career like nothing happened. Even 4th gen girl Karina had more guts than a man in his late 20s to confirm her relationship (happened last week btw). There are many idols who absolutely don't give af and don't dump their partner's for fans. If anything, Tae is known as a coward among other kpop fans especially BP fans for the spineless act he did after dragging that girl into this shit. And ik most people who read this agree he is coward on how he handles taennie. For Jennie, this must be her worst dating experience lol..when her previous 2 relationships got exposed, bf or their agencies confirmed it in a day while this man acted like she doesn't even exist anymore 🤡

Also idols calling their fans girlfriends is bad right and bts stopped it right? But the only bts member who still does that is JK himself lmao. And I agree, the more you keep y/n away the more relaxed you will be. He's gonna struggle so much if one day he's gonna introduce his real gf lol. I didnt saw any other bts members doing or saying anything JK did except playing along with their jokes once in a blue moon. So others may have it a lil easy compared to him lol.

Also I really don't except any bts member to confirm relationship anytime soon. Atleast not in 10 years. Yeah it sounds like a long period but there are plenty of kpop idols and very popular actors who are in 40s and doesn't even have a single dating rumor. I don't think anyone in bts have that nerve to confirm their relationship unless they are getting ready for marriage, which will only happen after many years lol. Well we literally saw how Tae dipped when his relationship with Jennie was confronted or how JK denied about gf and ran other way when the very real video of him with his gf was exposed 😭 None of them are ready to risk anything Fandom have to offer rn for a relationship lol. I think it will be Jhope the 1st one to confirm a relationship from hyung line and Jimin from Maknae line. Because only those two looks like they will take risk for their loved ones, they haven't built their music nor career over y/ns and fantasies and they'll actually prioritize personal life over career, but again it won't happen anytime soon.

Apologizes in advance if this is not the most well worded because this is the thing that probably annoys me the most of all the things BT Stan’s say. This coming from someone that is a diehard destiel fan and has been for over a decade. I hate that they try to make that comparison. And honestly I’m so embarrassed by fellow destiel shippers who abandoned Buddie for BT.

Here’s the thing. Yes Cas wasn’t meant to have a long arc and they decided to keep him because of fan response. However, he was brought in as a part of a HUGE plot-arc for the show (the introduction of Angels as a supernatural creature and all that comes with literal angels) so even if he wasn’t meant to be the angel that stayed long term, there was meant to be a long-term plot with angels. And as soon as they decided to keep him they delivered on actually developing him as a character.

Additionally, Misha and Jensen had great chemistry right away. Even platonic chemistry that general audience could see. Despite the small group that love them, most people can see that Oliver and Lou don’t have that much chemistry. Destiel as a ship started right away, yes, much like Buddie was a ship almost as soon as Eddie showed up (to the point where they were putting things in like the Elf scene as a nod to what the fans saw). But, like Buddie, Destiel became what it was because of SEASONS of development and build up and devotion to each other over and over again. Also they tried repeatedly to kill off Cas and the ratings plummeted every time so they had to bring him back - Tommy is not important or well liked enough for that, but you know which pairing is? Buddie - who Tim admitted the show suffered for when they were split up.

Also, yes Misha gained a cultlike following - but what did he use it for? To start charities like GISHWISHES for random acts of kindness. He talked about his character and headcanons but he did so mostly either for free online (Twitter) or at sanctioned conventions. And he did so after he was kept on as an established main character. He did not charge fans on cameo to make things up to try and boost his own career. Also a reminder that his first season aired in 2008 - there wasn’t the massive amounts of social media then to amass the cult the way they’ve done (there was no Instagram to spam with duplicate accounts, no showrunner open to DMs) Cas was kept on the show because the general audience and fandom loved him - outside of Dean.

Both are characters that were introduced to have a short arc, and there was fandom response to them - that is where the comparisons end. Comparing the two is an insult to Cas and Misha.

There are probably things I’m forgetting but I don’t have the energy to parse through them all.

This is a very detailed explanation, thank you. Personally, I was never that invested in Supernatural, so for me it was just another thing that was added, but I completely agree with you, Cas completely changed the game and he was brought in at a time that you couldn't fake that type of approval, because we were talking about a network show in 2008, like, there were no big things, they were forums where we were discussing fandom and stuff like that but there wasn't something like Twitter or the cameos or even Tumblr in the size that it is now. And it was because the general audience loved Cas, he was a great audition to the show especially considering the circumstances in which he was added, everything about season 4. So it's not really a fair comparison because Misha actually got a cult-like following naturally, he organically became what he is now, and it's not something you can fake, you can't fabricate what they did with Castiel and Misha. You can't replicate what happened because of a very specific set of circumstances aligning perfectly. A lot of it comes to the fact, like you said the chemistry between Misha and Jensen was insane and you didn't have something comparable in the show yet and they just kept building on top of it. You had the fact that everyone saw Dean as bisexual and you had the devotion that Cas showed towards Dean, you had no way to work around it you, it was what he was. And that in 911 it is buddie, Eddie was introduced after the show was already airing, the chemistry Oliver has with Ryan is palpable, and the show built the relationship. You can't do it again on the show, you can't shove him in the space that's already filled. Yes, Cas was brought in for an arc but he was always supposed to have consequences within the universe and obviously the reaction to him made him stay longer and it was something, yk, like people really like the character. Cas kind of gave a second life to the show. It allowed fandom to create something that didn't exist there yet and he ended up being really really well received. So they obviously played with that. It's not the same situation as trying to fabricate a connection that's not there when, you don't have the same level of chemistry, and you already have a ship that is filling that space, you can't really force that to happen because it has to happen organically to have lasting effects.

Jennie sighed loudly as her name was getting dragged into the big mess that was occurring with her boyfriend. She was getting sick of social media these days. One day she was going to never come back. She felt it coming. You can't do anything without someone speculating something. Social media was going crazy over the fact that Jungkook was seen with some tattoo artist and leaked photos of him hugging her.

The public was already speaking out on their opinions:

'Here we go...men embarrassing black women once again. Jennie, I am so sorry...'

'Jennie, it's time to leave him because wtf is this?'

'Is JenKook about to be no more!? Love ain't real!'

'Jennie is about to beat both of their asses!'

'Y'all are blowing this way out of proportion...he isn't cheating.'

'Omg Army Twitter is so annoying. That man is crazy about Jennie. There is no way he'd cheat,'

'Y'all did this with Jennie and now it's Jungkook's turn? Leave them both alone! They are not cheating on one another!'

'I need Jennie to speak up about this. What is her reaction?'

'Y'all are so damn toxic.'

'I stan BTS because of their music. Not what they do in their personal lives.'

'Remember when Jennie took a long social media break because of your toxicness regarding her relationship with Kook? I don't blame her if she deactivates again,'

On a group Facetime call with Angelina, Layla, Trinity, and Hailey, Jennie explained the situation.

"Did he call or text yet?" Trinity asked.

"Nothing," Jennie answered.

"What? Maybe you should break up with him,"

Jennie frowned at that. "That's a bit extreme, don't you think? It's a misunderstanding. You know how the media twists shit,"

"I dunno, I have to agree. Because why would he have his arms around her like that?" Layla added.

"Men be hugging me like that sometimes," she countered while Layla and Trinity were still skeptical.

"You should trust him," Hailey brought up. 

"Hell froze over because I agree with Miss Snob over here," Angelina replied. 

"I'm glad you and I agree on something, bitch," Hailey chuckled with Angelina.

"Really? You guys are fine with him hugging up with some girl?" Layla asked.

"It looked like a friendly hug," Angelina replied. "I hug people like that and so do others with me,"

"It didn't look friendly to me," Trinity said.

The discussion was beginning to overwhelm Jennie as she listened to them go back and forth.

"Jen, talk to him," Angelina said. "Whenever he sees you, you two need to have a long discussion,"

"Yeah, I personally don't think he would cheat on you. This gotta be a misunderstanding," Hailey added.

"Jen, are you really fine with this?" Layla asked.

"I hug my guy friends, I don't think it was that big of a deal," Jennie answered.

"I dunno, you're not mad enough for me. I'd be pissed," Trinity frowned.

"Is this why your relationships failed?" Hailey called out.

"Wow, that was low," Trinity replied to her.

"Because you have no trust in anyone. The smallest shit happens and you get insecure,"

Trinity rolled her eyes. Hailey had hit a nerve and she was right about it.

"Just because you feel this way doesn't mean she has to. Her relationship with Jungkook has been built on trust. This is just a misunderstanding and social media is blowing it out of proportion," Hailey went on.

"Wow, Hailey is making sense and using her brain. How about that," Angelina praised.

Once Layla, Trinty, and Angelina left the call, Hailey stayed on.

"You alright?" she asked as she watched Jennie sigh and run a hand over her hair.

"Yeah...I just...I just want to talk to him face to face. But I'm in New York while he's in Korea,"

"Do you trust him?"

"With all my heart,"

"Do you love him?"

"With all my heart, yes,"

"Then keep trusting in him. Keep loving him. You two will get through this. Talk with him when you get a chance so you two can clear this up. And do not retaliate online. Don't be like me. Don't be like how I was when I lashed out on social media. Handle this privately. This is nobody's business but you and your boyfriend's.

Before Jennie could reply, she heard a series of knocks on her hotel room door.

"Okay. Thank you. I gotta go. I'll keep you updated,"

"You better. See you, JW," she smiled softly and hung up.

Getting off her bed, she opened the door and was surprised to see Jungkook standing there.

"K-Kook," she said in surprise.

BTS Tutorial: Billboard Charts

So how does charting work when it comes to Billboard?

Hey, fam. Let’s get into it.

First off, this information mostly pertains to folks living in the United States or Puerto Rico. If you live elsewhere, you’ll want to pay attention to the rules for your own country and concentrate on helping the boys chart on Hanteo and GaOn (Circle) charts so they can win awards in Korea.

Second, did you know there’s more than one Billboard chart to focus on?

The first chart is Billboard Hot 100. This is the music industry standard.

This chart is focused on singles. They track how well the singles do for 1 week (from when it drops on Friday night until the following Thursday.) The chart usually updates by the following Tuesday morning.

Streaming is the most dominant factor, but sales and radio play also are important.

Jimin is releasing singles for FACE and we want them to chart well, so if you can afford it, it’s important that you pre-order the digital singles for “Set Me Free Pt.2” & “Like Crazy” at the official BTS store.

Please save up to buy the album on iTunes and Amazon, if you can do that, and either way, just be prepared to work your butt off streaming the singles online. (I will be posting a mini-tutorial on streaming soon).

But don't neglect the singles. Hot 100 very much matters.

The second chart is Billboard 200. Getting BTS members on this chart at least is a matter of honor.

This chart is focused on albums and EPs.

Roo, what is an EP? I’m glad you asked!

EP stands for Extended Play. It’s for mini albums, like FACE, that typically have 6 or fewer tracks and run less than 30 minutes. For EPs, it’s great to stream the songs in the order of the original tracklist, so all songs have an equal chance to chart.

LP stands for Long Play. That refers to a traditional album with 6 or more songs (sometimes more than 12!) that run longer than half an hour.

Of note, we saw photos posted on social media in 2022 of Jimin working with a bunch of artists and producers who do not seem to be featured on the mini-album FACE. It is therefore possible (I am not making promises) that he might have plans to release an LP later. Let’s keep an eye out.

Anyway, back to Billboard 200.

This one is a big one and we simply must help Jimin to place well here. In order to make the chart, Billboard tracks pure sales, and something called SAS (streams and sales) which combines TEA, SEA, and SES.

What is up with the alphabet soup, Roo? Again, so glad you asked.

TEA stands for Track Equivalent Albums. In this case, 10 tracks = 1 album.

SEA stands for Stream Equivalent Albums. If you cannot buy the album, you need to stream your guts out. As far as I can tell, the following formula still holds true:

--1,250 streams from a premium stream (such as a Spotify Premium account) = 1 album/unit sale. --3,750 streams from an ad supported stream (such as a free Spotify account) = 1 album/unit sale.

So if you sign up for a free trial for Spotify before FACE comes out, your streams will count 3 TIMES AS MUCH as a free account’s efforts.

And you need to stream 1,250 times for it to count as an album sale. Please be ready to have a device devoted solely to FACE streaming nonstop for a week.

SES stands for Stream Equivalent songs. Here’s the formula for that:

--125 streams from a premium stream (such as a Spotify Premium account) = 1 song unit. --375 streams from an ad supported stream (such as a free Spotify account) = 1 song unit.

Like Hot 100, Billboard 200 tracks from Friday night through to Thursday night and posts results the following Tuesday.

Finally, there’s something called Billboard Global 200.

This includes world-wide songs counted in 200 different territories. The chart tracks both streams and downloaded sales.

A note about digital sales: it’s not enough to just buy. Once you buy, you gotta DOWNLOAD IT onto your device or it won’t count.

Also please note that streams only count from official sources (subscriptions and ad-supported platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music). Playing your digital copy on WeVerse does not count for Billboard.

By the way, did you know YouTube has a Music platform for charting, beyond just watching the official music video on regular YouTube? Check out YouTube Music and get familiar with it!

Now this is important so please pay attention.

Do not use a VPN when you are trying to chart something. VPN hides your IP address, which makes you look like a bot or a non-US/PR user, and that disqualifies your efforts. TURN OFF YOUR VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK WHEN YOU STREAM.

Bangtan Sonyeondan: Butter, Permission to Dance & PROOF

BUTTER, MY UNIVERSE & PERMISSION TO DANCE (2021 - 2022)

The group soon added Butter & Permission to Dance to their English song line up, once again with Grace taking the helm of translations and being the first one to sing the songs in full for the boys to then add in their own voices. 

Butter, Grace’s all time favourite, soared through the charts. It also earned them their second Grammy nomination. The music video was also another one of Grace’s favourites to film, as she loved the simplicity of the concept - letting the song and the dance do all the talking. Permission to Dance was another easy one for Grace, who revealed on a V-LIVE that the outfits weren’t her favourite to wear and she hated the whole ‘cowboy’ theme but loved the concept behind the song.

She also got to meet her mother’s favourite band, Coldplay. Acting as a translator to the group, she got on extraordinarily well with Chris Martin who signed a couple of pieces for her mother. It also brought Grace a lot of joy when she saw how shy Seokjin acted around Chris Martin, resulting in an endless amount of teasing. 

It was an era of busy times but also uncertain times as behind the scenes there were talks of a hiatus, military and other issues. It was also during this time the group left their dorm and moved into their own apartments, which had been bought previously. An unsettling time for Grace who felt like she had finally settled into her role of who she was, who she should be but now there were changes to come. 

Permission to Dance on Stage in Seoul allowed Grace to finally be the performer she was. 

PROOF (2022 - present)

An anthology album with three new singles - Yet to Come, Run BTS and For Youth. However, this was not a happy time for Grace - it had been announced on 5th December 2021 that the group would be devoting more time to their solo projects and at the end of the final concert for Permission to Dance on Stage in Las Vegas, Proof had been announced. 

RUN BTS was by far Grace’s favourite song to perform and one she looked forward to, but the FESTA dinner had put a dampener on things for her. She had sat between Seokjin and Yoongi, mostly quiet for the whole entire thing - she didn’t say much, didn’t even react much to the boys crying and picking at her food. Fans were starting to worry that maybe, just maybe, this might be the end of BTS as an eight-member group as they confirmed they were now living apart, they were now focusing on their solo projects. 

Grace’s long-awaited mixtape had been put on the shelves again and meetings with the boys in private as they worked out their plans of who was bringing an album out at what time, who was doing what, etc. made Grace put everything on hold. She was completely in a rut and one she didn’t fully know how to come out of.

After the concert in Busan, when the military enlistment was announced by Seokjin, Grace went into quiet mode. She continued working behind the scenes, did a V-LIVE every now and then but kept quiet on all social media including the Instagram she had opened with the boys. She was there to see Seokjin off on December 13, the two sharing a quiet yet knowing look between them and then the news came that J-Hope was enlisting. 

During this entire period, with Namjoon, J-Hope, Yoongi and Jimin releasing their own albums, Grace quietly supported them with ARMY not knowing until the BANGTAN BOMBS were uploaded onto YouTube - Grace even accompanied Jungkook for the World Cup but no mention was made at Grace’s request. She also sent flowers and best wishes to Taehyung while he was in Mexico, once again all kept quiet. 

BigHit kept releasing statements that their artist was fine and would be releasing her own album soon, with Grace’s schedule already planned for all the way up to 2025 when her boys would return and they would be eight again.

A recap of what happened in the one month before the release that is more or less related to ISWM. Open to any missed info and note.

I used my time zone for this so some events may have happened hours earlier or later for others. That and also the date I found certain posts. So you have to keep those two factors in mind while reading through. Also minor note is that I write them on the day and once it’s over I do not mess with previous entries.

This post is for fandom historical purposes or in case someone needs a refresher in the future or someone is feeling nostalgic.

March 5, 2022: Mark released the official trailer for In Space with Markiplier.

He has replied to tweets, and reblogged stuff on tumblr. If you look at the keywords for the trailer, he was cheeky and typed “you’re looking for an easter egg aren’t you?”. No need to call us out.

2 Major fan agreements: Chica is seen as the most important part of the trailer, and we aren’t qualified enough to run a spaceship.

March 6, 2022: He is seen in multiple comments section of ISWM trailer reaction videos on youtube. Pretty active on social media probably reading fan reactions on all platforms he knows. Like a lurker. 

March 7, 2022: Unrelated but it sparked discussion. Matpat made a Game Theory video of Mark’s ideal Pokemon. 

March 8, 2022: Some memes about how ISWM is free and not paid got popular. Not sure the origin date of this fandom meme but he does go on a rant in “nothing strange is happening here.” about being confused why people think Distractible Podcast was paid.

March 9, 2022: Mark has interacted with his fans on twitter. Gave the fans a scare.

A fan announcement is released to change names and locations when ISWM drops. Mark himself liked an earlier version of the tweet.

Unrelated to ISWM but related to fandom matters. 10 Minute Power Hour - Season 2 Trailer on The Grumps youtube channel was posted. I’ve heard that marktwt ended up having to see his ass on their timelines for a few days. Cannot confirm nor deny.

March 10, 2022: Cursed stream. Watching the Same Video 100 Times. He has way too high of a charisma stat that there was a good amount of people went along with this insane stream from start to finish. He had a very Actor-esque monologue in the middle and got permission to show BTS photos (say Thanks Amy). Live viewers was consistently around 25k.

This is the day a good amount of the fans decided we will give him hell when the show comes out.

March 11, 2022: I’m not sure why but the Markiplier fandom on tumblr decided to make some Bald Mark edits.

March 12, 2022: The Test 2. Timestamp: 51:34. It’s another tease for ISWM but this is from the last frame of Everything has to begin with the date release from the ISWM trailer.

March 13, 2022: Not much outside of some fans making a copypasta. “Hello. This is Markiplier. I have been logged out of my main account and I need your credit card information so I can keep making Youtube Let's Plays.”

There are variations but the main content of the copypasta is the same. Mick also posted this on his twitter.

March 14, 2022:  Mark did a livestream “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2: REVISITED”. It managed to reach over 100k viewers live on average (probably, I was only there in the last 50 minutes). For whoever needs it. He likes being called a himbo.

March 15 & 16, 2022: Nothing noteworthy to say about these days.

March 17, 2022: Since so much nothing has happened. I’ll report that Mark uploaded Assessment Examination. Cursed Thumbnail BTW. Thanks, I hate it.

March 18, 2022: Nothing to note.

March 19, 2022: Mark went live. FNAF 3 Revisited. He mentions 1928 so WKM fans are triggered. Also briefly explains why he hasn’t been active.

March 20, 2022: Mark retweets this. 

March 21, 2022: Mark went live. FNAF 4 Revisited. I find it funny that if you ctrl+u and searched for the keywords he just keeps adding instead of changing things around. First one I didn’t get to watch live.

March 22, 2022: The Grumps: 10 Minute Power Hour. Our [REDACTED] boys doing chaotic things as usual. 2 weeks left before release, I’m assuming Mark will start messing with the fandom big time when there’s only a week left.

Mark went live and streamed Sister Location. Peaked at 106k viewers. He’s still adding keywords there.

March 25, 2022: On youtube, Mark started a premiere countdown.  Mark retweeted 2 fan arts on twitter. Then he had a bit too much fun over on tiktok.

March 26, 27, and 28, 2022: Please move on to the next interesting date. I guess instead of just the trailer thumbnail, we had the trailer playing too.

March 29, 2022: DING! DING! DING! DING! Something finally happened! One of the captains found a link to an unlisted video because their premiere glitched. It’s mostly the same. The only thing that has changed is that the slap is in reverse. Here is the link and from unlisted it went to private. So that link is useless now but hey, at least we have the URL.

March 30, 2022: Because timezones are a thing, I’m writing the part 2 here. A couple of our fellow captains found 2 codes from the video. One and two. The first one has an update. First link references Venus, and the second link is with Zeus so Jupiter. This amazing captain has a pretty solid idea. Whether this will be true or not is up to the future.

Thumbnail changes are also happening. Mark is also messing with the polls. Three times actually.

Have you ever been in a long-distance relationship before? Never been. Don’t think I have the time, energy, and effort to want to sustain one either.

What is your favorite food to eat around Christmas? My mom makes a really good macaroni salad during that time of the year which for me makes me feel more Christmassy than anything else.

When was the last time you cried happy tears? Last week when I watched Wrestlemania and saw the results of the Usos/Sami & Zayn match. Super emotional moment considering I’ve been following the latter two since I was in grade school and they were still in the indies. I’m working now, so you can just imagine how fucking long they’ve been putting in the work.

How liberal are you? Enough for older relatives to not be too happy with my way of thinking.

Have you ever experienced altitude sickness? Nah. The most I’d go through is feeling some blockage or pressure in my ears (which goes away on its own after a while), but I mean I don’t feel sick or anything like that.

What’s your biggest priority right now? Reclaiming my work-life balance while still making sure I do well at work and remain as professional as people already perceive me as.

If you’ve stayed overnight in a hospital, how did you entertain yourself? I didn’t. I was 12 at the time, it was 2010, wifi wasn’t a thing yet, there was no TV in the room, and I didn’t even own a phone. The only way I could make time fly by at the time was through sleeping off the entire hospital stay.

Are your hands unsteady? I mean I’m SURE they’re not surgeon levels of steady, but they don’t visibly shake either.

Do you listen to a lot of mainstream music? My music bubble is exclusively K-pop these days so Top 40 mainstream maybe not so much, but considering BTS pretty much qualifies as mainstream now, yes I do.

Do you think you’re pretty? Sure, most of the time I do. I’m comfortable in my skin is how I’d put it.

Have you ever added someone you don’t know on Facebook? No, I would never do that. Even if that person has 100+ mutuals, if I don’t recognize the name or profile photo I wouldn’t add them back.

Would you ever shoot someone right in the face? I would if it has to come to that point. Conditions have to have met the extreme though – like if you mercilessly kill any one of my dogs, murder a relative. Things like that. If you could find one long-lost friend of the past, who would it be? Raegan. I wouldn’t say she’s 100% long-lost since I’ve since found her on social media and discovered she’s now a thriving, super super successful athlete (for swimming), but we haven’t kept in touch since she transferred schools back in like...‘05. She and her family always were always kind and humble to everyone even though they were very blatantly stinking, old-money rich, and I remember being bummed when I realized she moved schools starting Grade 1 cos I didn’t even get to say bye.

Was your sixth grade teacher a man or a woman? Woman.

Have you ever had any teeth pulled? Two. I have another one that I’m expecting to get pulled as well since it’s on its way to decaying like the two others that went before, but I told my dentist I’ll just wait it out til it starts hurting hahaha.

Do you wash your hair or your body first when taking a shower? I always do hair first, unless I feel SUPER icky and sticky in which case I’ll wash my body first, then my hair, then do another round of washing my body.

Is there someone in your life you don’t want in it? Kinda. One of my associates (I have two of them) just shared her intention to resign, so I’ve started to be on detachment mode so that I could already be well-adjusted by the time she finishes her rendering period.

Pretending to “never get the text” from someone who annoys you. Is that you? Not really someone who annoys me, but I’ll sometimes use this excuse when I genuinely forget to reply to a work message that really needed a response on my end. I’ll say, “sorry I didn’t seem to receive it” or “sorry, I thought I had replied” lol.

If your ex came up to you and asked you to take them back, what would you say? That they are fucking kidding.

Do you prefer boys to shave down there? I’ve never been with a boy but generally I have no preference when it comes to hair. It’s just...hair.

How much does your mother know about your sex life (or lack thereof)? Absolutely nothing.

Do you enjoy watching cooking shows? I used to but I don’t really do that anymore. I also used to like watching cooking vlogs but I don’t do that anymore either.

Do you worry about gaining weight? Not really, no.

Have you ever seen the movie A Walk to Remember? Cliche or worth watching? I tried watching it but was cringing like 1/8 through. Same with The Notebook.

What’s one event your town has that you don’t like to participate in? Parish festivals.

Are any of your siblings married? What are their spouses’ names? None of us are even in relationships and I don’t think any of us are remotely interested in being in one. Do you like being home alone or does it freak you out? I would love to be home alone, but that hasn’t happened since my college days. I don’t think I’ll ever be home alone again any time soon (and unless I move out and start living on my own) because work/study from home things.

Did you lose friends when you started dating someone? No but I did turn into a shit friend. My friends should have ditched my ass but they have all just been too fucking kind.

whoa this is gonna get heavy, so i’m warning everyone reading this beforehand. things have changed for sure, i’d say... but it’s hard to point it out exactly. my younger self went through a whole different spectrum of human experiences. things were... nice(?) when i was a literal child, but it got gradually worse, worse and worse to the point where i moved out at the age of 17 and started living in a dorm in a different town. younger me was incredibly strong willed, hardworking and hopeful. i still find it super crazy how i got through everything i did and that i’m still here, surviving. younger me had so many big dreams and was motivated to follow through. i was also a bit naive, and i struggled a lot with determining characters, so i ended up getting even more hurt trying to maintain friendships with the wrong people and such. it’s not the same anymore with these things... my mental health has been a constant issue since mid-2019 (although, i must say that i’m doing a LOT better now — people who’ve been here for a while would know), and the world just kinda turned black & white... i think a lot of young adults feel the same though. i’m also super cautious about making connections with people now, which has been... idk, both good and bad? like sure, i’m a pretty lonely being, but at least i’m not hurting for people who don’t deserve me! also, it all just crashed down with the pandemic, y’know? it’s hard to say how much i’ve exactly changed, because i was brought up in a situation where i was forced to mature very early. and to be uncomfortably honest, i might seem a bit childish when i get comfortable around someone. guess i had suppressed my inner child too much with everything going on, and whenever a comforting/reliable presence comes along, it resurfaces 😅. anyway, i’m still very very proud of the younger aleyna. i wish i could hug her and tell her how amazing she is, how thankful i am for everything she did that led to me being here (in a relatively stable position) now, how the lessons she learnt through hardships made it easier for me to navigate through this complicated world... the list is endless. i just hope that a few years from now on, i can look back to this self (my late teenage years and early twenties) and feel just as proud for doing whatever i am doing right now ☺️

the song which came up this time is “to you” by seventeen. i, genuinely am, in love with this song. have been that way since it was released in 2021. see, i got into kpop back in 2019 through bts and twice (good times)! and it took me a lot of time to actually branch out from that starting point — txt playing a big role in it because i was obsessed with run away when it came out (still my fav title track by them). i came to know about seventeen on 2020 when left & right came out, and i loved it! but i didn’t exactly go straight to “stanning”, i just added them on spotify and just vibed along whenever it came up. after that it’s mostly a blur with svt for several reasons. until attacca came out on late 2021, i saw the rock with you mv, and was like: HOLD THE FUCK UP I NEED TO GET INTO THIS SHIT IMMEDIATELY?! i remember doing everything i possibly could (following their socials and stuff, adding all their albums to my spotify library, etc.)... believe me or not, it took me almost 7 months to catch up with all the content i wanted to check out. and well, the rest, i’m sure you can see/guess. about “to you” specifically though, my first impression was — “is it legal for a song to be this good?! did they put drugs in it or something 😭?” and it’s still the same. “to you” is a work of art, one that made me feel emotions i thought i’m not capable/eligible of feeling. i love attacca the mini album so much, from the top to bottom. what a gem!
