I think I went a little bit insane over the scene where Vincent says “do you remember what you said to me the night we freed you?” and Adriel, without even looking at him, just goes “no”. Holy shit that moment was so fucking good, the fact that Adriel just simply doesn’t remember. The way that we didn’t get to hear the dialogue back in season one, and I was expecting when Vincent asks the question that we were going to get the reveal of what he said. But no. They do something much cleverer with the scene. They reveal that he just doesn’t remember. It was never that important to him. Vincent was never important to him. The being that Vincent betrayed everyone who believed in him and loved him for, just doesn’t care about anyone, unless they further his own agenda. I know Vincent uses Duretti’s death to explain his disillusionment in Adriel to the others, but this, this was the moment Adriel lost Vincent. Such a powerful fucking scene man

Now that I look back at it, what if Ava didn’t fall into the lake because of Beatrice or because she lost focus, but because that was the first time the Halo gave out on her?

I know the timing of “Concentrate” was pretty funny (you tell someone not to look down, they look down), but Ava was making great headway up to that point, and this clearly wasn’t a new training exercise. She was running a clear path, keeping a good pace, and the finish line was in sight (hi, Bea!). The Halo glowed steadily through her sweater, alive and working.

And while we don’t see the Halo go out because of the camera angle, we can hear the noise it makes. It’s like a machine short-circuiting.

Ava feels it fail and that’s when she panics. That’s when she stumbles and plunges into the water.

Ava does tell Beatrice that she’s tired afterwards, but this “glitching-out” noise is consistent with all the other times the Halo fails: the Prado Museum, the church fight, training in the courtyard, the hotel where she falls from the sky, the roof of Adriel’s cathedral. And it always catches her by surprise while she’s performing tasks that she’s become very confident in (flying, phasing, etc.).

When the Halo is activated, it begins with that gentle, high-pitched ringing noise. The Halo pulses have that added “Whee!” with the burst of light.

But while it’s on and working for extended periods of time, the ringing is quite muted. It’s only when Ava draws on more of its power that it flares up again.

This is only episode one, but Adriel has already amassed a following in those two months since his release. His churches and crosses have gone up, as we see in episode two with the FBC and Kristian’s usurpation of Arq-Tech in 2×04. The stronger Adriel gets, the faultier the Halo becomes.

But I also wonder if Ava’s determination to succeed/fear of letting everyone down ever caused her to overexert the Halo on top of that.

I think, for a while, Camila would be really mad at Lilith. She left without a trace then she kissed sided with Adriel, and they lost Ava coz of it, resulting in Bea leaving the Order. And Lilith would feel... irredeemable and nothing really mattered but the Holy War but every time she flies over to OCS hq (coz she likes to check up on them if they're preparing), she'd see Camila training new recruits, and being ruthless, the way Lilith used to be on the woman, but then be a cinnamon roll after that, helping the one she just beat over the mat, and Lilith just, you know, wants to apologize. Make it right. Lilith doesn't really care about the others. Camila's forgiveness was all she needed wanted.

So one day, in the middle of the night, she teleports to Camila's room and comes face-to-face with an angry cinnamon roll with a divinium dagger in hand against her neck. Lilith didn't teleport away, she let the blade cut her neck, but her wings unfurled involuntarily.

And the scene might go like this:

Camila, with unshed tears, "Give me one valid reason not to slit your throat right here, right now."

Lilith, mustering up all the courage, knowing she would might die that night, "I'm sorry. For everything."

Then Lilith would fall on her knees, head bent down, neck exposed, while Camila would look down on her, blade on her hand. Slowly, she pointed it down at her neck and Lilith closed her eyes, waiting for the blade, believing she deserves whatever punishment Camila would give her.

Then she'd hear a clang beside her, the dagger near her knees.

Lilith, being all confused, would look up, and see a crying Camila, shaking. With anger or with sadness, she wasn't sure.

For a while, they stayed like that.

Lilith, wings unfurled on her side, kneeling in front of Camila.

okay i'm finishing up my s1 rewatch and this moment with lilith and the explosives was actually very funny and also wholesome like okay! we're working together now! lilith is a type A proactive control freak on a good day and right now we're also dealing with some brain interference vis a vis magical brainwashing from the otherside SO! it's a little complicated. but she's been talked off the ledge and she wants to help!

HOWEVER. probably not actually a great idea to let her impulsively blow through a bunch of rock with all those explosives! BUT THE GIRLS RECOGNIZE AND RESPECT THE INTENT. AND THEY ALSO KNOW THAT IF THEY DON'T REDIRECT LILITH'S MANIC ENERGY SOMEPLACE THINGS WILL GET BAD AGAIN. so they take her explosives away and she lets them bc she's On Their Side now but she's SO SAD about it and then bea lectures her quite gently and asks her to help drill a hole! A TASK! FINALLY! A PURPOSE!
