this birth family reunion is everything i've ever wanted and yet i still feel so unfulfilled

my chest is still sore and aching but for different reasons, it's not going to go away

it still doesn't feel like it has happened - like i dreamt the whole thing up, but i didn't. maybe it's compartmentalising, maybe i need to talk about it more, or maybe being entirely in control of a situation for the first time is disorientating.

it feels like a lot.

a lot of people you tell expect you to be delighted and that everything is fine and that all of your issues go away once you've had your family reunion, you got what you wanted, you should be happy and fine now. it's not exactly the same as before, but it's similar, it's different, it's not the same, how can anything be the same again?

nothing is ever going to be the same again - i've just achieved one of my major lifetime goals, one of my biggest wishes, and it feels like everything and nothing has changed - still disorientating.

i'm riding the wave but the wave keeps getting bigger and smaller and I can't follow it. i hope it compartmentalises itself soon.

Teehee... many Femmet au (?) thoughts... This idea is like a cool rock I found and keep in my pocket to look at every so often

-Emmett (feminine spelling of Emmet apparently) transitioned after Ingo disappeared and moved on with her life. Ingo also somehow transitioned in Hisui.

-Emmet wears black lipstick + earrings to honor her 'sister,' but nobody outside of her friend circle is aware that she ever had a twin.

-Arceus eventually figures out what happened, panics, and sends Emmet to Hisui to reunite with her brother.

-Because of the transition, time spent apart, and Ingo's memory issues, Neither recognize each other. Despite this, they immediately become buddies anyway, mostly since Ingo is the only one in the village who matches her battling skills and, by extension, can talk with her abt battle strats. :]

-Because Ingo arrived in Hisui when he was ~12, he's only 25 and isn't considered an old man. Still Sneasler's warden but not as much of an outcast in the village as usual.

-He still has Luxa !! Luxa (as a litwick) came with him when he fell because she was still his only pokemon. Ingo maintained his interest in pokemon training/battling and still became one of the only people in Hisui who enjoys battling.

-Emmet's presence kickstart Ingo's memory a bit and he slowly starts to remember bits and pieces; eventually realizes that he also had a sibling named Emmet. Still takes a comically long time for either of them to connect the dots

I was using Bing Copilot, asking it stuff like "what do you call someone who is both wasian and blasian at the same time", then made it more clear with "what do you call someone who has white, asian and black heritage at the same time", but then I got curious - how would a transracial* person like myself even navigate places that feel like they weren't meant for me, places where people are connected to their culture and heritage and don't feel like an impostor wherever they try to fit in?

To help myself feel better, I typed in "how to navigate your cultural identity as a transracial person"

And you know what fucking came up? First sentence? I will literally copy-paste this shit.

Understanding Transracial Identity:

Just curious, where would you recommend starting genealogy research? I’m mostly curious more than anything, thought I don’t think having Native American lineage is likely for me?

Start by talking to your family and writing down as much info as you can. Names of grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, whatever you can. Birth dates and places they lived as well.

I do genealogy thru ancestry.com and it's mostly great but I know some people have problems with it. You can get a 2 week free trial and you might be able to get plenty of your tree filled out in that time.

Then, just put in what info you got from your parents, and look for census records. US Census records from 1950 and earlier are public, so start there. I was able to go back to my gg grandfather just thru censuses, and then I was able to find his Dawes card. I have gone back further but the farther back it goes the less reliable anything is. Be wary of anything on ancestry or other sites where the only source is someone else's tree, because people can put whatever they want down and a lot of it is wrong. [For example, on other parts of my tree it's tried to connect me to pocahontas 3 times.]

Ofc this advice doesn't just apply for those looking for native ancestry, it's just general genealogy stuff and it's really interesting for anyone to learn about their ancestors (:

after the disastrous Tournament of Betrayal, Cat Witchers raise their surprise kids on the Path by themselves for a few years before returning to the Dyn Marv Caravan, you know, Just In Case Anybody Gets Anymore Wise Ideas.

this means when they're on a hunt, they need to stash their kitten somewhere with nobody to watch them, but due to their school's reputation, no where is really safe enough to do so.

surprise kids can be little. just wee babes or toddlers depending on when the bio parents think it best to sever ties for their own sakes.

leave a baby in a town? chased out with pitchforks under suspicion for stealing the wee thing in the first place. left to wait with the horse? bandits could find a young mutant to kill or sell off to parts unknown.

so Cats have to literally hide their kittens on the Path. put the Horse one place, kid some other place that isn't too far from Horse place but also isn't so close to camp that a passerby might happen upon the vulnerable little thing. also, have to take monsters into consideration.

and there's the age of the child to consider. babies will scream for anything and are entirely defenseless. toddlers know how to walk and want to play and absolutely will forget complicated instructions within moments. proper kids, especially Destined-Cats, are curious and bratty and will do whatever they want sometimes.

so Cats-with-Kittens work out truces. shared places to keep their wards while they go out and earn coin. a neutral Clowder-den. usually between former members of the same cohorts. kitten-caches.

your pre-teen watches my wee one and vice-versa and we all go our separate ways when the respective jobs are done. young Cats socialize and learn who to trust, and their parents can get down to the less than honorable work that keeps them fed and supplied with the Wolves on the Warpath.

but sometimes the kitten-cache has to move before the Witchers come back. so the Cats have to call for their young ones in code to be sure that they stay where they've gone to avoid being found by enemies first.

so Cats chirp. like Cheetahs. nearly-bird calls, but no Witcher would mistake a reply they get for anything less than their kitten.

popular for a while, older kittens wrap a cloak fashioned from wolverine hides around themselves and curl up around smaller charges in tall grass. some climb trees and slip the babies into abandoned owl nests while they wait in camouflaged hammocks. one absolute rascal of a boy escaped a fiend by slipping into a hibernating grizzly's den and hiding his two toddlers in with her cubs.

it's generally shit being a Witcher, especially a Cat, for a long, long while. but at least, for brief instances, you were a child who someone cared enough about to protect from all the monsters of the world. and you knew that if you called, someone would come calling back for you.
