Vacuum Cleaner: The Essential Tool for a Clean and Healthy Home
How a Vacuum Cleaner Works
A vacuum cleaner functions by creating a low-pressure area inside the device, which pulls air in. As the air flows in, it brings along dust and small particles, which are trapped inside the vacuum's bag or filter. While the concept is simple, technological advancements have allowed manufacturers to design highly efficient vacuums with specialized features. Modern vacuum cleaners come with multiple attachments to target different surfaces, ensuring every nook and cranny is thoroughly cleaned.
The traditional vacuum cleaner has evolved significantly, and today's machines are equipped with HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters that trap up to 99.97% of particles, including microscopic allergens. These are particularly beneficial for individuals who suffer from allergies or respiratory issues.
Benefits of Using a Vacuum Cleaner
One of the greatest advantages of vacuum cleaners is the ability to keep indoor environments dust-free, reducing health risks associated with dust mites, pollen, and other allergens. Frequent vacuuming can significantly improve air quality, benefiting not only allergy sufferers but anyone who wants a cleaner living space. This is particularly important in urban areas with higher pollution levels, where dust tends to accumulate faster.
In addition to health benefits, vacuum cleaners are highly efficient. They can save you time and effort compared to traditional sweeping and dusting methods. The various attachments available allow you to clean everything from floors to ceiling corners and even furniture. Vacuum cleaners are also essential for pet owners, as they help remove pet hair and dander from floors and upholstery, which can be challenging to eliminate manually.
Types of Vacuum Cleaners Available
Vacuum cleaners come in several types, each designed for specific cleaning needs. Here’s a breakdown of some common types:
Upright Vacuum Cleaners: Upright vacuums are ideal for larger carpeted areas. They are easy to maneuver and typically have powerful suction, making them suitable for homes with pets or high foot traffic.
Canister Vacuum Cleaners: These vacuums are versatile and come with a variety of attachments, allowing you to clean hard floors, carpets, and even furniture. The flexible hose makes them easy to use for cleaning stairs and tight corners.
Stick Vacuum Cleaners: Lightweight and portable, stick vacuums are perfect for quick clean-ups and smaller spaces. Many are cordless, providing flexibility in terms of mobility and reach.
Robotic Vacuum Cleaners: Robotic vacuums are an excellent option for those who want hands-free cleaning. They can navigate around furniture and obstacles, cleaning your home autonomously. While they may not replace deep-cleaning vacuums, they’re a convenient option for daily maintenance.
Handheld Vacuum Cleaners: These compact cleaners are great for tackling small spills and cleaning hard-to-reach areas. They are often battery-operated, making them portable and easy to use in places like cars or on furniture.
Vacuum Cleaner Kenya: Meeting Local Needs
The growing popularity of Vacuum cleaner Kenya reflects an increased awareness of the benefits of modern cleaning solutions. Many homes and businesses in Kenya are now adopting vacuum cleaners as part of their regular cleaning routines, realizing the advantages these machines offer in terms of efficiency and health. In addition to traditional models, portable and handheld vacuums are popular in Kenya due to their versatility, especially in smaller homes and apartments.
With the variety of choices available, it’s now easier for residents of Kenya to find vacuum cleaners suited to their specific needs, whether it’s a powerful upright vacuum for deep carpet cleaning or a lightweight stick vacuum for quick clean-ups. As urban areas expand, dust and pollution levels tend to rise, making vacuum cleaners an essential household tool for maintaining clean indoor spaces.
Choosing the Right Vacuum Cleaner
When selecting a vacuum cleaner, consider your primary cleaning needs, home size, and whether you have pets. It’s also essential to think about floor types, as some vacuums perform better on carpets while others are suited for hard surfaces. A vacuum with a HEPA filter is ideal for those concerned about allergens, as it provides an added layer of protection for a healthier home environment.

The Unique Sokoke Cat Breed: Affectionate and Low Maintenance
Unlocking the Beauty of Sokoke Cats
Meet the Sokoke cat breed, a rare and captivating feline treasure with roots in the lush coastal regions of Kenya. Discovered in the late 1970s in the enchanting Arabuko Sokoke Forest, these cats offer a unique blend of exotic aesthetics and endearing personalities. Their distinctive ticked coat, strikingly large ears, and alluring almond-shaped eyes tell a story of their African heritage. But it's not just their appearance that sets Sokoke cats apart; it's their intelligence and deep connections with their human companions that truly make them shine.
Exploring the Key Characteristics:
Medium-sized and muscular, they exude strength and elegance.
Their short-haired coat sports a striking ticked pattern that adds to their charm.
Large, alert ears and captivating almond-shaped eyes give them a distinctive look.
Agile and active, Sokoke cats are known for their impressive jumping abilities.
Their high intelligence is complemented by emotional sensitivity, making them fantastic companions.
These felines form devoted bonds with their families and have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years.
Coat colors include silver, brown, blue, and dove-gray, reflecting their natural origins in the coastal forests of Kenya, untouched by recent foreign breed mixtures.
The Sokoke cat breed is a true landrace, believed to trace its ancestry back to the African Wildcat, unmarred by recent foreign breed influences.
Nurturing Your Sokoke Cat
When it comes to caring for your Sokoke cat, here are some essential tips:

first of all: THANK YOU
second of all I am sorry for the can of worms you have opened.
[cut for long post and embarrassing old art]
SO. The pirate OCs were invented in like 2018-ish because I simply felt like making an all-female pirate crew at the time.
they were the crew of Captain Kalavaar (the one in the purple jacket) although she really only went by 'Captain' conversationally. All of them had taken names/nicknames that were for the most part descriptors. Kalavaar was moreso the name she was referred to as among sailors in stories, and it was based on my best manufacturing of a bastardisation of the (probably already bungled on my account) Hindi words for 'black sword'. The rest of the crew were Hadari (meaning clever), Callada (meaning quiet), Armada (that one was just a name) and the twins, Titch and Minnie (meaning small).
All of them were runaways who joined the crew one by one (or in the twins case, two) after the Captain went to sea at a young age and never looked back. In fact she made a pact never again to set foot on land after she left.
Hadari was the smart one, and the Captain's First Mate (mostly because she literally was the first crew mate). She was from Kenya and she had a pet bird who sat on her shoulder. I'm so mad that I deleted a bunch of my photos to free up phone space and I don't have any drawings of him on hand rn (I could go get the actual pages out again and take more photos but i don't want to) but he was a bare-faced go away bird and his name was Mr Person
(here is a photo of what kind of bird he was)
Hadari was also the closest friends with Callada.
Callada was from México, where she had escaped a traumatic event that killed her family. She was mute, but communicated with sign language that Hadari helped her develop and share with the crew. She wore a low brimmed hat to cover disfigurement around her eyes and protect them from harsh light.
the next to join the crew was Armada, who was a mermaid! She had run from a high-class life in mermaid society and didn't have much experience fighting. Still, the Captain agreed to take her on as the ship's figurehead (the usually wooden decoration of a woman on the front of boats). Really, her job was just to sit around and look pretty, but she gradually got the hang of the pirate life and started participating a little too. She also ended up romantically involved, and eventually married to, the Captain.
and finally, those two little ones are the twins, Minnie (long hair) and Titch (short hair). They were runaway foundlings from London who Armada let stow away and who basically became adopted by the entire crew. Titch was a bit rowdier than Minnie, but Minnie was still very brave and lost her hand helping to fight off a Kraken. She ended up with a hook hand cobbled together from scraps, that evolved over her life into a functional metal appendage with multiple attachments.
But they were still the babies. (Oh and look there's Mr Person)
Listen I'm very bad at explaining things well, I have a lot of complex feelings about these characters and their relationships but this right here I guess is just a surface level introduction to my little murderous boat family. Hope you like them and support their dastardly deeds.

Sara & Mamma take Kenya!
Stop #1- Nairobi
June 6, 2019
A few details about our trip so far...
Our first day in Nairobi was truly unforgettable. First of all, mom is totally treating me and I feel so lucky and privileged that she is sharing this trip with me. We stayed at the Fairmont Norfolk hotel which was absolutely stunning and charming while also maintaining the colonial design/decor as it was one of the first established hotels in Nairobi. We also have private tour guides picking us up and taking us to each location while we drive around in the land rovers we will also use on safari.
So, day 1 begins. After a beautiful breakfast at the hotel we went to the Giraffe center which was created to protect the Rothschild Giraffe from extinction. They have few full grown male and female giraffes that stay on the premises for reproduction, and they make money to support this cause by allowing tourists to feed them and get some kisses!
It’s important to know that it’s not safe for grown animals to interact with humans because it decreases their chances of survival when released back into the wild, but these giraffes are here to stay as their purpose is to mate and reproduce. The babies only stay at the center for up to 3 years before they are released into the wild, and they have less interactions with people because they are smaller and can barely reach the stand where we fed them from.
My favorite part about this visit was, to my own surprise, what I learned on these tour. Yes, that’s right Pop- what I learned from the tour guides today was incredible!
Our guide from the giraffe center, Joy, shared with us the purpose of the center as previously mentioned, but also more. Daily the center takes in school children (OMG they are adorable) to educate them on the wild animals and conversation. They recycle milk bags and use them to carry and transport baby trees which help do three things. 1- provide shade to prevent drought. 2- increase oxygen. And 3- preservation.
The school children come and learn about the protection of the environment and take the baby trees to plant them at their schools and where they live. Educating them on wild life protection: Because Kenya is such a poor country often times students drop out of school and become poachers as a way to get money. This made me think a lot about my students and how many of them sell drugs for similar reasons- opportunity for money. Educating the students on wildlife from such a young age can improve protection efforts so they can support the sustainability of the environment and their animals. I talked to a few of the students and they were VERY CUTE! Ugly happy picture of me below.
Okay- we are half way there! Next stop was the Sheldrick Wild Life Trust Elephant Orphanage. Their purpose is to take in baby elephants who have been found alone and without their families for a variety of possible reasons. If a baby elephant is found and there is no mother to be seen, then they come here to be raised and protected 24 hours a day every single day for 3-5 years depending on their age when they come in. Visitors can only come once a day from 11am-12 to see the elephants getting fed in order to minimize their contact with humans, but also to make money to support their cause. After their time at the orphanage, the elephants are brought to a part ofTsavo national park, where they are monitored for 5 years to help the transition from having 24/7 care. After those 5 years they are fully released back into the wild and are capable of joining other elephants and protecting themselves against predators and poachers. Here are photos of the feeding where we stood behind rope.
But here’s the best part! If you are an “adoptor” of one of the elephants (which really means you sponser them for a year to support the cause) then you can request a special appointment to see the elephants go to bed from 5-6 pm. This was especially incredible as it was a much smaller group of people and there was no rope to stand behind. The elephants walked right passed us on their way to bed where we got to pet them and talk to their keepers from right outside their rooms. Before they went to their “bed” the last and largest elephant came directly towards me and walked into me! I thought he would turn and follow the paths of the others but no, he headed straight at me to say hello. Mom got part of it on video and it’s too large to share, but this picture is that elephant second before..no zoom at all.
Here’s what it looked like once the elephants were “in bed”.
The one I’m playing with is Maktao, the elephant Mom adopted in my name. The keeper staying with Maktao that night is named Peter and he took that photo for me. Can you see the cot? That’s where the keepers sleep each night while the elephants are babies. Maktao is only two years old! The keepers wake up every 3 hours to feed them. They rotate to different orphans every night so that the elephants don’t become attached. The work they do is amazing and the more I learned from the keeper the more I was blown away.
Before the second session at the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage (follow @sheldricktrust if you are interested) we went to the Karen Blixen coffee garden and museum. It was lovely, but let’s be honest... We would have been with the elephants all day if it were possible!
Today is day 2 and we are currently in the land rover for 7 hours driving en route to Maasai Mara for our first stop on safari! Larger elephants, and several more wild animal photos to come!
Love you all.

Dogs stranded abroad as US families face ban under CDC rabies rules

Dogs stranded abroad as US families face ban under CDC rabies rules
She thought she had done everything necessary to bring their dog from Kenya to their new home.
She’d had the rabies shots updated in Nairobi. She’d had a vet there check the spotted spaniel for worms and sent photos of Toffee’s teeth to prove she was at least six months old. She’d scanned her husband’s passport, gotten an export permit, filled out dozens of U.S. and international forms.
Kacey Bollrud, 47, and her husband have been flying their pets from his Foreign Service posts to her parents’ place in Pensacola since 2006. For their girls, 9 and 12, pets help faraway feel like home. Moving their dog has always been complicated, but doable.
But this March, when the girls’ father was sent from Kenya to a post in Washington, D.C, the family learned the rules had changed. New regulations, meant to ward off rabies, were leaving thousands of dogs in limbo as their owners struggled to bring them stateside.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had restricted bringing dogs in from 113 high-risk rabies countries – including Kenya.
Bollrud’s daughters wept when they had to leave Toffee behind.
“They have to start at a new school, make new friends, set up a new house,” their mom said. “Having a pet to come home to at the end of the day to sit on the sofa and lay her head in your lap is incredibly comforting.”
New rules, which went into effect in July 2021, require that dogs coming into the U.S. from those 113 countries have a rabies vaccine approved by the U.S. Then, the dogs have to wait 30 days and have a titer blood test, to see if they have enough antibodies. Only a handful of laboratories around the world process those tests. Results can take months.
People who have to uproot quickly, including from Afghanistan and Ukraine, don’t have time to follow the new protocol – and have to abandon their pets abroad.
Bollrud called labs to test her dog’s blood in Belgium, then South Africa. By the time she found a place, her husband had to report to his new post in D.C.
A friend agreed to foster Toffee in Kenya, take her to get blood drawn for the $1,000 test, try to help reunite her with her family.
Every day, for almost five months, Bollrud’s daughters have asked about their dog: Does she miss them? Will she remember them? When will they be able to hug her again?
The Bollrud family adopted Toffee, a spaniel mix, when they lived in Cypress. They took her with them to a new post in Nairobi, but when they returned to the U.S. in March, new rules meant they had to leave her behind. [ Kacey Bollrud ]
If you’re traveling internationally with your dog, or trying to bring one back from abroad, you’ll have to plan months ahead, spend more money and follow CDC guidelines – which keep changing.

Over the last year, thousands of people have had problems trying to bring dogs into the U.S.: military members, State Department workers, federal contractors, refugees and animal rescue groups.
No one knows how many have had to leave pets overseas.
The CDC said new rules “protect the public’s health against the reintroduction of canine rabies” – which was eradicated in the U.S. in 2007.
About 1 million dogs come into the U.S. every year – 100,000 from the restricted countries. To the CDC, each dog is a risk, however slight.
In the last seven years, three dogs flown into the U.S. from Egypt and one from Azerbaijan tested positive for rabies.
CDC workers turned away 458 dogs for having invalid vaccines or improper paperwork in 2020, a small percentage of all imports – but a 52 percent increase over the previous year.
“The COVID pandemic diverted resources from dog vaccination efforts in many high-risk countries,” said spokesperson Belsie Gonzalez of the CDC. “We suspect the risk of rabid dog importation will be higher in the coming years as a consequence.”
Because more people wanted pets during the pandemic, more groups were trying to bring dogs from overseas. That might have caused an increase in dogs being turned away, wrote CDC veterinarian Emily Pieracci.
With fewer international flights, and many airlines refusing to fly animals, dogs denied often have long waits before being sent back, the CDC notice said. Many get sick, waiting in crates. Some die.
Critics say the new requirements are unnecessarily restrictive, sometimes impossible to comply with.
The narrow pathway to get permission to bring a dog into the U.S. now could cost $15,000 instead of $500. Rescue groups may no longer be able to afford to save dogs from foreign meat markets, or get them off streets abroad.
In September 2021, Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Florida, and 50 co-signers asked the CDC to drop the ban after a year. Dogs should be allowed to get vaccinated in their home countries, he wrote. The government should establish a “pet passport” and make room for animal charities to keep saving lives.
In May, Crist wrote another letter, imploring the CDC to help Ukrainian refugees bring their dogs to the U.S. Considering the rarity of rabies, the congressman wrote, “This ban is doing more harm than good.”
Peter Fitzgerald, a retired professor from Stetson Law School, helped rescue this golden retriever in 2018 and shipped the dog to America to be adopted. [ P.L. Fitzgerald ]
Bollrud’s friend took Toffee to the vet in Nairobi in early April. Results came at the end of May: plenty of rabies antibodies.
If the paperwork checked out, their pet could be cleared to come into the U.S.
But Bollrud had to find a way to fly her here. One airline wanted $6,000 to ship her as cargo.
“The new CDC ban is by far the most difficult and frustrating problem we have ever had to deal with,” she said. “I don’t mind bearing the costs as a pet parent, but the government needs to make the process easier.”
She wishes military and government workers posted overseas were exempt.
“The girls are really scared for Toffee,” Bollrud said. “Our family isn’t whole.”
A few weeks ago, her girls were watching Little House on the Prairie. When the dog got lost, her youngest daughter sobbed into the sofa.
One of Kacey Bollrud’s daughter Cori poses with the family spaniel, Toffee, on her first day of seventh grade in Kenya. Having Toffee around makes international life easier on Bollrud’s girls, but changing regulations have separated the girls from their dog. [ Kacey Bollrud ]
Most of the 113 countries the U.S. restricts dogs from are considered “hardship” posts, said Melissa Mathews, 50, a Floridian whose husband has been stationed in Jordan with the State Department. “This ban makes it even harder to recruit workers there.”
At least 40 percent of military and foreign service families abroad have pets, Mathews said. The ban “felt like our own government was attacking us. We can’t leave them behind.”
Her husband recently considered another post in the Middle East but worried about bringing their mixed-breed dog, Evie, back to Ormond Beach.
So they’re moving to Austria, which isn’t a high-risk country for rabies.
Melissa Mathews’ son George holds their dog Evie in front of The Casements, John D. Rockefeller’s home near their house in Ormond Beach. When her husband was stationed in Jordan, they brought Evie with them. [ Melissa Mathews ]
In June, the CDC extended the dog import ban through January 2023.
But they had heard the outcry, so they created a route for animal welfare agencies. Once in the U.S., foreign-vaccinated dogs need to be re-vaccinated and usually spend a month in quarantine – all at the importer’s expense.
In most cases, they can only fly in through four airports in New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Miami. The CDC contracts with private facilities to board detained dogs. The government doesn’t have oversight there.
Managers at the Miami contractor, Pet Limo, declined to comment.
Peter Fitzgerald is a retired professor at Stetson Law School in Gulfport and has volunteered with international dog rescue groups for 30 years. He adopted a golden retriever from Turkey and another in Florida. During exams, he brings them to Stetson to help soothe stressed-out students.
He’s encouraged about the revised regulations. But he doesn’t think there are enough entry ports. He believes the CDC needs an advisory committee.
“We need one agency overseeing the process,” he said. “One set of rules for everyone bringing in dogs.”
Before the ban, one of the groups he helps was sending 300 dogs a year to the U.S., saving them from meat markets in Thailand.
Now, he worries the increased hassle – and expense – might make such a mission impossible.
“Compassion doesn’t have international boundaries,” Fitzgerald said. “But adoption fees won’t even cover our expenses.”
Peter Fitzgerald, a retired Stetson Law School professor, helped rescue these golden retrievers from China in 2019. At Beijing International Airport, they waited in crates to be shipped to America. [ P.L. Fitzgerald ]
Finally, she has a plan.
After weeks of research, phone calls, negotiations, Bollrud found a way to get her family’s dog from Kenya.
She couldn’t fly Toffee to Dulles airport, because some summer days there bring heat embargoes — Toffee could get stuck.
So on Aug. 25, her friend will fly with Toffee from Nairobi to Frankfurt, Germany, then to Boston. Bollrud will drive the 400 miles there from D.C.
And after six months, her girls will have their dog.
They can’t wait to take Toffee to a dog park, to the doggie cafe they discovered, to pick out a puppy popsicle.
To cuddle on the couch and have her home.
Kacey Bollrud’s daughter, Cori, snuggles with Toffee. The family was able to bring their two cats from Kenya, but had to leave their dog behind. [ Kacey Bollrud ]

A really long list of all the paras I’ve killed in all paracosms I’ve ever had:
— Noel: My parame. In one paracosm it was suicide. In another he was murdered. But in the main one it was a plane crash accident.
— Lucía: Noel’s big sister. She went to war and never came back.
— Amy: Noel’s american friend. She hung herself right after giving birth to Coraline.
— Kenya: Noel’s classmate and crush from Primary school. Noel decapitated him. He kept the head in this basement.
— Dimitri: Noel’s abusive ex when he was 24-25. In the main paracosm Pierre killed him. In an alternative one Noel did it.
— Violett: Noel’s 16-years-old wife in an alternative paracosm. She comitted adultery. The village murdered her for that.
— Rita: Noel’s very first cat. A dog bit her torso so hard her guts came out. Noel had to finish her with a gunshot straight to her head.
— Random dog: Rita’s ‘murderer’. Another headshot for this one.
— Menta: Rita’s daughter. She just disappeared one day and never came back.
— Jorge | Patitas: Noel and Pierre’s third pet who turned out to be a ‘werewolf’ witch familiar. Died during a magic battle against wizards while protecting Pierre
— Coronel: A dobermann Noel adopted after Jorge. Died of an embolism.
— Noel’s aunt: She tried to poison Noel in order to throw him out of the throne. She was sentenced to death.
— The lions: A medieval lion and lioness were killed by Noel and France’s king during a challenge to see what monarch was stronger.
— Noel’s parents: The media said it was double suicide. However, years later Noel suspects his dad actually shot his mom and then himself.
— Some men from the mafia: They were Dimitri’s men. They broke into Noel’s house, so he got rid of them.
— Pierre’s lover: Noel found out Pierre cheated on him. He forced him to torture and kill the girl as an apology.
— Pierre’s childhood friend: He confessed Noel he was in love with Pierre. Noel felt threatened. So he stabbed him in the chest with a kitchen knife.
— The detective: Met Noel during the investigation of Pierre’s childhood friend’s murder. A year of friendship later he discovered Noel did it. So Noel kidnapped him and forced some rats to pierce his torso and eat him alive.
— The shooter: Two men tried to do a shooting during a Youtube event. Noel took their guns and shot them both. One in the head. The another one in the leg. Only the latter survived.
— Noel’s medieval-era lover: The villagers found out about their homosexual affair so they burned him at the stake.
— The ‘angel’: A time-traveler from an alternative timeline who tried to kill Noel for all his wrongdoings. Noel killed him first and stole his more advanced time-traveling machine.
— The foreign king: He kidnaped Noel in an alternative paracosm and forced him to be his sexual slave in his harem. Noel poisoned him.
— The pharaoh’s wife: Noel was the pharaoh’s lover. His wife got jealous and tried to poison Noel. The pharaoh found out and executed her publicy.
— All patients, nurses and doctors of a mental hospital: Noel wanted to know what jail felt like. He went overboard with the crime.
— 1/3 of prisoners in jail: At first Noel only killed the ones who were too sassy. Later he set for himself the goal of killing them all under the guards’ noses just for fun.
— A few random citizens: Both from the serial killer that was active during Noel’s childhood and all the people Noel assasinated while he was a hitman.
— Some kids from a Primary School: By befriending a serial killer, Noel naively helped the man kill a few of his classmates.
— A whole village: The magic paracosm again. Noel couldn’t control his newly discovered powers and killed them all at once.
— The entirety of the planet Earth: Noel was the president and had access to the nuclear weapons. He was also feeling very depressed. Boom. His husband and children included.
— The whole universe: Noel became God at the cost of destroying everything
#Basically all of them are Noel's fault because he's my OP cringey edgy parame#I'll update if I remember more paras or kill some more#This is mostly to keep track for myself#personal

— ✧ KEHLANI PARRISH ?? no, that’s just REEVA MZUZI SUMMERS !! she’s the TWENTY FOUR year old adoptive daughter of SCOTT SUMMERS / biological daughter of T’CHALLA, and is, in addition to being an ASTRONOMY MAJOR & TA at paragon academy, a SHOP ASSISTANT at a local mystic store. i hear she’s RESILIENT & EMPATHETIC, but tends to be OBSTINATE & CHAOTIC. her file says that her powers are MYSTICISM & EXTRASENSORY PERCEPTION. you can check out her stats HERE & her pinterest board HERE.
she’s in to SUPERSTITIONS, black cats & voodoo dolls.
SECTION ONE OF THREE: BULLET POINT HISTORY trigger warning for talk of cults, death and mass suicide
she came into this world on the 22nd of december, 1994. the winter solstice. her lungs fillled with air for the very first time as the sun set upon eliye springs, kenya, and as she was laid upon her mothers chest, the group around mother and child chanted that MAUTI ( swahili ; death. fate. ) had arrived.
her mother was a charity worker. her father was a king. she was the result of sun meeting moon, gold meeting cubic zirconia, riches meet ruin. she was an accident. she was SPECIAL. the leaders of the “kanisa” prophesied the coming of a child born from two different worlds that would herald in the end of times. a child that was a reckoning, an end, the final death between two chubby fists. and they found their holy figure in her.
her mother - she thinks of her this way, always ; her name is as lost to her as the lines upon her face, the only lasting memory being the way she held her a little too tightly, during prayer. she doesn’t know that once, she was soft - her mother was YOUNG. naive. alone. in the cult ( they don’t like this word ) kanisa, she saw a way out of a dire situation. when they approached her, too in the know for her to be comfortable, too in the know for her to think she had a choice, they promised everything that didn’t have for the life growing inside her womb. the master bedroom, at the commune. first pick of all the food, at meal times. pride of place, during prayer. a small bit of new world religion for a roof above her head and food to fill her stomach - she didn’t know the price she would really be paying until it was too late.
they say that if you drop a frog into boiling water, it’ll jump right out immediately because it knows what you’re trying to do. but if you place the frog into colder waters, and gradually heat the pot - it won’t suspect a thing, and by the time it does, it’ll be too late. her mother was innocent once, a fact that the baby will never know. she didn’t believe in what they were selling - she was just trying to do what was right, trying to make something for her baby to be born into. nine months with the kanisa changed everything. nine months indoctrinated her. by the time her daughter wailed her way into this world, it was too late.
she’s named mauti because bringing DEATH is her fate. her mother, once, wanted to name her asha. with group thinking, she never gets the chance.
she, of course, doesn’t remember these early years herself. she gets flashes, sometimes, but she doesn’t feel a connect to them. it was a different time. a different life. the cult ( she likes this word, it grounds her past in a reality that she could never find, without ) believed in a lot of things. mauti was the bringer of death. if they served well, in life, then they would be the members of her spectral court, in the next. it was their responsibility to tend to her and nurture her and push her to her powers. the things they did to her as a newborn in order to make her mutations present were vile and cruel and the only thing that, now, she flinches when she recalls. but they WORKED, and with them a reality...- in their minds, it made the prophecy true. she was death.
they did other things, too. horrible things, all in the name that they gave her. mutants that scouts found in nearby towns and villages were brought back to the commune. on the full moon, they were sacrificed. mauti would absorb their powers, at least, that’s what they believed, and their spirits would be bound to her, more unwilling servants, for the afterlife. it was the disappearance of mutants, too many to be anything but suspect, that led to the x-men traveling to eliye when she was just two years old.
they found the commune. the chaos of their arrival led the leaders to believe that the end was upon him far sooner, than expected. they gave the order for the group to follow what they had trained for, in this endgame scenario - and one by one, each died by their own hands. bodies began to drop within minutes of the x-mens arrival.
scott found her. he’s never said to this day - probably because he feels she couldn’t handle it - but, she doesn’t imagine anyone other than her own mother was preparing to take her life as well as her own, in that moment. he saved her. little mauti. bringer of doom. two years old and surrounded by so much death, just like had been prophesied. she didn’t cry. everyone on the plane back to the states thought that it was strange, she didn’t. instead, she remained nestled in scott’s arms - falling asleep before they had even taken off, and waking up somewhere over the atlantic with a smile, just for him. it was like the events of the night hadn’t even touched her.
this was, for a brief time, the only quiet sleep that the baby he named REEVA and gave a home to had. in her dreams, she was tormented by the dead - the ones that had died for her, willing and unwilling. when she woke, it was all the same. she was too young to be able to communicate the hell that she was going through, but when she woke screaming and spent most of her days hysterical, it didn’t take long for certain telepathics to delve into her mind and see what it was she was seeing from her own eyes. she was being driven insane. tortured. she was too YOUNG for her mutations, and there wasn’t much that they could think to do.
scott wanted it to be jean. he just... couldn’t figure out how to ask her to do that, and knew without doing so what her answer would be. it had to be charles, and since he had done it before, placing a block on reeva’s mind so she could have a chance to live normally, for once, wasn’t a hard task. still. it never seemed to fully stick. she remained sane - saved from the worst of it. but as she got older, it was obvious that her interests lay in the OCCULT. she was always an odd girl, too much for many, too little for others - never entirely there in reality, always somewhat stuck to the other side. it was a joke, at first, when someone said that sometimes, they thought she might be more GHOST than she was girl. it lost its humor, over time.
but her father ( and she thinks of him, always, as this ) saved her. his action, while done without her choice, allowed her mutations to mature at a rate that would ensure her continued sanity. she owes him a lot more than just a home. she always will.
SECTION TWO OF THREE: HEADCANONS
because she still, technically, has something of a block on her mind, she’s yet to really realize that the fact she has actual SUCCESS with spells she casts / summoning partakes in / etc is because she’s got a secondary mutation in the form of actual mysticism. in reeva’s eyes, she’s simply harnessing a force that’s already present - she doesn’t realize she creates, too, and connects with a purer form of magic that only a select few can. her extrasensory perception is the only mutation she’s fully aware of, and with it comes the retrocognition and spirit awareness that she’s more KNOWN for.
she knows that t’challa is her biological father. if anyone else said they simply “saw it in a dream” it would sound insane, but when its reeva...- it’s usually something MORE. she doesn’t really have any feelings towards what must have went down between him and her birth mother. she doesn’t resent him, and she doesn’t really want to connect with him, either. she’d love to get to know her birth siblings - but she doesn’t want to get that skewed with inserting herself into their, or t’challa’s, NARRATIVES, either. scott is her father. kaia, amy and felix are her siblings. she was two years old when she joined the family, and they’re all she really KNOWS.
like i said. for a lot of people, reeva is a lot. she’s far more in touch with “the other side” than she is with reality, and when she was in her teen years, people thought that was pretty weird - rightly so, though it led to her relying on the spirits more than she did real people. she tries not to be weird. she fails, but... that’s also because she stops trying pretty quick. she is who she is and she’s always been this way, so at this point she figures everyone else better just .. get used to that.
she has two cats, salem and kyteler, and a single rat - his name is pistachio, because the spooky pet name trend only counts for cats, i guess.
SECTION THREE OF THREE: WANTED CONNECTIONS
x-kids. she’s been in scott’s care since she was two and she’s turning 25 in a couple months, so... yeah. she’s been around the x-men FOREVER. come @ me
best friends. or just. friends, in general. reeva connected solely with ghosts for a really long time because her teen years were rough and people didn’t vibe with who she was - i still rly want her to have a few people who actually do like her tho, and actually ... are her friends. for better or worse.
worst enemies. this kinda connects to the next connection, but also, can be sort of on its own - there are probably so many people who just HATE reeva because of who she is or how she is, and she prob doesn’t feel too good towards them, either.
disbelievers. is reeva full of shit? actually, no. she’s a little over the top sometimes just cause she can be, but for the most part, what you see is truly what you get - but that doesn’t mean there aren’t many people out there who think otherwise. give them to me.
regular customers. either they’re regulars at the mystic store she works at, or, they’re regulars on the side. for a small price, reeva will do pretty much anything - read your palms, look into a crystal ball, do a tarot reading, check the stars, let you choose a divination stone or three, interpret your magic 8 ball reading. it’s whatever, but it means she probably has a few dozen people she sees on a more regular basis - so hit her up !
coven. incls selene constantine. every witch needs their coven, and that goes double for reeva, who only really finds the likemindedness she’s searching for in other people who practice the craft. just imagine for a second the kinda sh*t this group could get themselves into because its spooky season and spells are ten times more potent...and then let me know if ya wanna be w the in crowd. ( thats us )
paranormal investigation squad / three spots ( one taken by jeannie drake kent ). this is separate to the above because its so wildly contrary to all reeva is. she BELIEVES. she knows ghosts are real. she knows that a lot of things are real, actually - and still, she’s got this little squad on the side. i actually kind of really want this to be a small group of friends ( i’m gonna say ... five people, incl reeva ) who are pRETTY tight knit and have been since they got into college ( slash... whatever. honestly, it’s not outlandish to say some people have known each other for longer than others ) and basically, they just... they visit haunted / spooky / folklore shrouded places together and investigate them. i hate to be that annoying bitch BUT i do kinda want reeva to be defacto leader because i have some neat ideas for threads we could do + i think ?? she could have been someone really gunning for this, herself??? but i’d be p open to seeing how it evolves and whatever, and there’s so many other spots that could be filled. think of the cute little gc we could have !! think about the way they could decide to become youtubers w this !! think of !! the threads !! and gimme. thanks !
