The Unlucky Ones by vidiotsjrock
As my Valicer In The Dark AU has been a theme this week, I decided to hit up the YouTubes for a song that might fit it -- and I happened across this video, tucked away in my old "favorites" list (remember when you could favorite things on YouTube?). I'm quite sure I originally favorited it because I enjoyed the A Series Of Unfortunate Events movie and thus liked the music video, but the song is a good one too. And, listening to it again, I did find myself thinking that there was a Valicer In The Dark vibe to the lyrics! I mean, just the title of the song alone applies to them pretty well -- their crew was formed in response to them being very unluckily accused of the murder of a potential Spirit Warden and having to run from the Bluecoats. And when you get to the chorus:
Come out and dance a while Out in the black cat infested night We dance on ledges and spires With losers and liars We don't have a thing to fear
Yeah, that totally makes me think of the Three Pillars having various adventures and pulling various jobs while avoiding the Bluecoats and the attentions of rival gangs. :) So yeah, more than happy to feature this 14-year-old video on my tumblr today! Perhaps next week we shall get something more modern -- we shall see. :P

Nobody including me posts about their ocs enough so please please please reblog reply or whatever with some oc tidbits!
#mutuals I am begging you kindly#I’ll go first! Tango has a massive soft spot for mole rats. hates killing them and thinks that they’re absolutely adorable! they would#rather be electrocuted than to admire that they have feelings though!#Murphy is the second eldest of 5siblings with her twin brother Tom being marginally older#they all look very similar (freckles. light brown hair. tanned#and front teeth gaps) and they have the youngest is tallest / oldest is shortest height variants haha!#they grew up together and stuck together even after the youngest was killed in a battle on Aus soil against fallout china. they all decided#to move to America and enlist (as was common) but we’re all put into seperate squads). the bombs fell and she lost track of her 3 brothers#after the whole being frozen for 210years.. perhaps they are still out there ..#Libby is just over 100 and remembers back when the super mutants actually were an organised threat.. rather than small groups#slick is only an average shot but his tactics are excellent and he has very steady hands as well as enough medical knowledge to be a useful#field doctor! he would much rather be helping than shooting anyway#Thorn is part of tangos timeline/au and because she convinces Kellogg to take her directly to the institute#none of the usual teleporter run around missions happen as well as reunions happening in almost a second time.. that has a lot of#impact on how the story changes for everyone involved!#while nathan is the present time is barely a husk of his former self albeit in a much more dangerous body#he has retains enough of his subconscious memeories to be increasingly dangerous to power armour users.. imagine if when a deathclaw picks#you up it also knows how to operate the release latch rip#typos! ocs tag#typos! tango tag#typos! Murphy tag#typos! Libby tag#typos! slick tag#typos! thorn tag#typos! Nathan tag

how cone twins appeared in latte's apartment? why would he sell a room in his house to some teenages? why would he even sell a room in his house at that point? was it to feel a little less lonely or is there another matter?
SO,
- its not like he rented out a room from his own house, but latte lives in a 5 story apartment building that he owns (something like this)
Tumblr media
he only uses the top floor as his own so the rest is up for grabs (so directly speaking, he's a landlord)
- the twins (all of them) were signed up as a sort of support system from lotl.corp, and since lattes apartment (at the time, only 4th story available) was open for those types of support systems, it was selected as one of the housing options from the system
they just picked this place cause unlike the rest of the twins, they posess a strong special ability(fire) and was pretty confident they can live in a more shady parts of the city without accident
-----------
so in short, he didn't directly sold the place to them, he just had it open for a housing support system (cause its not like he need the space or the money) and it got randomly selected as a option

On the note of sukuna inflicting insane amounts of violence onto those he finds interesting, I wanna bring up the parallel between gojo and sukuna with how in shibuya gojo in the 2v1 goes for hanami first and how many times he mentioned how unique her presence and technique is in chapters before that like he goes for her first bc he believes jogo to be weak (and maybe he expected more from hanami, having survived a hollow-purple from him before and all, but she doesn't respond or entertain him the way he wanted and just dies, also the glee with which he crushes her with his limitless like he expected her to overcome it somehow and the angry/irritated look he has after she's dead and he's left to fight choso and jogo)
I never thought about Hanami and Gojo's relationship that way, but looking closer there is definitely something going on. And I think it has everything to do with Toji.
(Used TCB Scans. Click images for captions/citations.)
Gojo both massively respects and fears Toji for getting past Infinity. He respects him enough to steal his fit and raise his kid free of Zenin nonsense, but he also fears being made that vulnerable again. So Gojo does this thing where he simultaneously looks for other Tojis while mercilessly destroying anything that resembles Toji. The go to example of this is:
Tumblr media
The cursed tools capable of piercing Infinity have been personally dealt with by Gojo so another Toji incident won't happen again. It's a reasonable trauma response all things considered. What's unreasonable was his treatment of Miguel whose Cursed Technique (CT) mimics Toji. (Though it doesn't seem like it was ever activated in full during their fight.)
Despite part of that beatdown being racially motivated, Miguel's Black Rope did remind Gojo of Toji's Inverted Spear of Heaven, hence him getting rid of it. So while Gojo has enough respect for Miguel as a strong individual he can trust with training his students, there's that underlying fear from being too much like Toji. (Tbh Gojo being wary of his build is similar to how unnerved he was by Toji's physical prowess too.)
Tumblr media
Now that we've established Gojo's weird relationship with Toji ghosts, back to Hanami. The first thing he notices about them is how good they are at hiding their presence and running away. Who else specializes in that kind of stealth? Toji.
Tumblr media
So while Gojo is excited to have someone who might be his equal again, the fact that they're enemies has Gojo jumping straight to Hollow Purple to get rid of that threat. I don't think it's a coincidence the damage Hanami and Toji receive looks similar side by side.
Tumblr media
And going to their fight in Shibuya, Gojo does something really weird to this curse that resembles Toji—he puts Limitless down. It was a bait tactic for sure, but it's almost like he is forcibly reliving his trauma. Toji first attacked when he turned Limitless off and from behind. And here Gojo turns it off again, and puts his back to the not-Toji.
Tumblr media
But unlike with Toji, he senses when Hanami goes for him and turns around to torment and kill them. The cruelty with which he deals damage to Hanami exceeds even that of Jogo. It feels like he's using them as some kind of emotional punching bag where this time he kills the Toji before everything goes wrong.
Tumblr media
I think his facial expressions being a more monstrous version of the ones he made while fighting Toji supports this theory as well. Gojo makes weird frog faces during the Sukuna fight, but they're just nowhere near this unhinged.
This could also be why he looks so upset after they're dead. Yes he killed the Toji, but now he doesn't have that rival. (Wow it's just like Sukuna being upset at the toys he broke.)

Okay SO, I think it was @al-ld who made the post about feeling like Xavier was retconned into being Esmund because the Jury of Nine is under O'khasis control if not directly under a Ro'Meave who are regarded as Esmund's bloodline, but I had the thought of what if they were both Ro'Meaves and then it turned into rewrite canon so I'm inflicting it on y'all too.
What if Esmund and Xavier were brothers, what if they were twins? They did everything together, they were close as could be. They became guards together and planned that if either of them ever ended up having to become Lord in the event their older sibling the heir died, they would do that together too. And then Irene came into the picture.
They both loved her. And Esmund was chosen as a Divine Warrior, and Xavier who had served at Irene's side as her personal guard, maybe even her head guard, was somehow left behind.
The distance gave Xavier clarity. He loved her, yes, but he could see the way she was around Shad and quickly came to realize that she would never feel towards him what he felt towards her, and even if she did she would long outlive him on account of her seeming immortality, but maybe he could still protect her the way he once had after death. He went home to O'khasis, instituted the first guard academy there and the Jury of Nine, which he led and which followed the Divine Warriors on their later adventures as they went on their quest to save the world. Maybe he and Esmund get back to how they once were. During the separation, he became known as the Admirer because he admired both Irene and his brother from afar.
In the meantime, Esmund followed in Irene's footsteps. He only looked back when he realized his brother was far behind, no longer following where Esmund led the way he always had before, and this spurs doubts about his position in the Divine Warriors. Did he do the right thing getting so close? Is it worth it when the one person who has been at his side his entire life, who he had always planned spending the rest of his life alongside, was gone? He followed Irene because he loved her, but it takes a lot longer for him to realize what Xavier had, and once he does the realization makes him feel like he had left his brother behind for nothing despite his work as the Protector, because she didn't love him either and even if she did he knew he couldn't make himself admit his feelings for her. So he sat and stewed in all these feelings, wondering whether he should leave for home, if they would be able to complete the mission they had set out to complete without him, and the guilt eats him up inside.
Then Xavier shows back up with the Jury in tow. Esmund realizes that his brother has had an entire life without him while he was away.
He made an institution that would outlive them all, he moved on, he's married with a kid on the way and Esmund was so far out of reach that this is the first he's hearing of it. They catch up, they talk about everything they should have years ago, and Xavier has to leave before the final battle when news reaches them that the heir of O'khasis, their older sister’s only child, is dead. Someone has to be the heir, someone has to put the Lord back together again, and Esmund is too important to the mission.
This is when he realizes that this entire time, Xavier was the one leaving him behind and now he will never catch up. But he can protect Irene, something Xavier dedicated a massive chunk of his life to, and so he became Irene's guard in his brother's stead and remained so until the so-called betrayal' of Shad, a man he had come to think of as a brother too, and afterwards he went home to O'khasis to be with Xavier again.
Further down the line, Esmund returns to Divine Warriors business but helps run the guard academy and Jury of Nine, and when their older sister dies the twins rule O'khasis as the only duo of Lords in known history. Esmund never married, his heart belonging solely to Irene, and so never had any children and when Xavier died his children became the heirs, beginning the modern Ro'Meave line. Esmund rules alone for a number of years, taking care of Xavier's family, the guard academy, the Jury, and holds O'khasis to the ideals of the woman he once loved, which turns O'khasis into the religious powerhouse it is today. When Esmund dies, his relic gets passed down to Xavier's children, eventually making it all the way down to Garroth and Zane, which makes anyone not in the know about Xavier believe that the Ro'Meaves are Esmund's direct descendants.

Anakin felt his presence long before he saw his old master. Even here, where the Force swirled in wounded and broken fragments, it was possible to sense that potent, bright power that he knew so well all these years later.
Jedha was an excellent choice of location.
Because it was already a potent Force location, and then of course, because it had been so terribly damaged by the Death Star, only scavengers and criminals came here now. But it would easily mask the fact that two very powerful Force users were using it as a meeting point.
Anakin drew his hood closer around his face to protect himself from the grit and dust in the atmosphere, which was a constant thing. There was also the occasional large piece of debris that still rained down. But Obi-Wan had directed him to an old Imperial outpost which, while abandoned, still functioned to keep the worst of the ravaged planet’s detritus away from them.
Speaking of whom…
He too was hooded, though his tattered robe was brown not black. Anakin could sense Kenobi’s uncertainty, and he could glimpse the flash of silver at his belt every time he took a step.

My thoughts keep circling back to some similarities I spotted a while back between the Hasaba twins and Nobara. There's a handful of them, really, from what I can gather -- even if we exclude the fact that both the twins and Nobara originally come from the countryside, which would be the most obvious coincidence.
Take, for instance, Nanako and Nobara's matching personalities: they both are outspoken, confident, brash and boisterous, with somewhat an air of a typical school bully around them. At first those traits might come off as off-putting and offensive, but when you delve deeper it becomes more apparent that such abrasive attitude might just serve as a defense mechanism of sorts and what it really shows is that these girls were taught, for better or worse, how to stand up for themselves.
Then there are curious similarities between their innate techniques. Techniques of all three of them require usage of inanimate objects, and in both Mimiko and Nobara's cases it's an effigy of the target, a voodoo doll -- whether stuffed one or made of straw. Their techniques also allow them to manipulate targets from afar.
Nobara also shows unusually high tolerance of pain, and it's something that keeps bothering me. And though we know that she was trained to be a sorcerer by her grandmother, and being a sorcerer involves adopting a certain mindset, that's not something one can simply order oneself to get used to.
One other thing that doesn't seem to escape my mind is how Nobara was only ever drawn to outsiders back in her childhood, and then proceeded to look up to Maki, finding it in particular admirable how she withstands the oppression of her own family. I guess it's also worth mentioning how Nobara doesn't believe people are excused just by the circumstances they grew up in. Again, I don't think that's an attitude one can afford without facing those hardships oneself.
So what if all the similarities really stem from the background they, Nobara and the twins, come from? I doubt that being a jujutsu sorcerer in a small, enclosed society such as found in a village in the middle of nowhere is a pleasant experience. People get nosy. They also get intolerant towards something they're not prepared to include in their tiny circle. We've already seen how an outsider unwilling to assimilate, Saori, was ostracized and driven out -- and she was just a city girl. We've also seen what being a sorcerer in an environment full of narrow-minded superstition costs.
How much bias and bigotry might Nobara face? Isn't it why she jumped at the first given opportunity to leave for the city? Why she only ever made friends with newcomers to the village? Why she considered all locals to be at least at some degree insane?
I don't know where I'm going with all this, really. If anything, it serves as yet another example of how the conservative mentality of those in charge of jujutsu society harms its sorcerers. Where both sides could've benefited from cooperation, non-sorcerers are left to ignorance and the misplaced antagonism towards sorcerers which that ignorance enables. I wonder if current, somewhat anachronistic, suspicion and superstition that still lingers with some parts of non-sorcerer population are fossilized remnants of the awareness their ancestors once possessed. What was it like to be a non-jujutsu user in the Golden Era of sorcery? Was it chaos and fear of that time which created an unbridgeable rift between sorcerers and non-sorcerers? I wonder what repercussions the current situation would have for the relationship between the two. Would it be history simply repeating itself, or is there an opportunity for real, substantial change, now that the system upheld by outdated tradition is utterly destroyed? Where are we heading with the story now?
