A whole three four (4) people have said they'd like for me to talk about Nirei, so here we go!!
Starting off with how he's first introduced! He falls face first on the floor. (Which I love him for, he's the guy ever.)
He's introduced as this really goofy, dorky guy. He still has the tags on his uniform, falls again trying to get them off, and asks Sakura if his looks are caused by stress.
He then proceeds to run into the doorframe as he's leaving, and trips as soon as he's outside of Pothos.
This all paired with how he talks about Bofurin makes Sakura disregard him as someone who's all bark and no bite, as someone who'll run soon as a fight breaks out, which Kotoha then argues against with her coffee bean metaphor about not judging people so quick.
(It's honestly a little crazy how this was Sakura's first impression of Nirei, considering how close they've grown throughout the manga! )
Nirei, however, proves this wrong immediately. He saves a girl from a bunch of guys that are harassing her, and he doesn't back down. Even when running away would probably be the wisest decision with his complete lack of fighting ability or self defence skills.
He clings on to the guy, continuing to get back up despite getting thrown across the pavement multiple times. His perseverance is something that Sakura quietly acknowledges as well!
Something we also get introduced to very early are Nirei's reasons for joining Furin (and Bofurin by extension) as well as his backstory!
Nirei is someone who's been mistreated in the past. He describes being beat up and used as an errand boy, talks about how he had no choice but to obey them, until someone from Furin stepped in and saved him. This sets up his reasons for joining Furin, as he wants to help others like how that student helped him back then.
This is also where we first get to see Nirei's insecurity. Despite his determination to help others, he unfortunately lacks any fighting experience or skill. This is something that plays a role in his insecurities and his low self-esteem.
Because Nirei is insecure. Or at least not as confident in himself as he could be. When Sakura saves him from the guys, Nirei is the first one to criticize himself before Sakura can even say anything. He thanks Sakura and immediately follows it up with how much of a disappointment it must be to have someone like him in Furin.
Nirei also downplays his usefulness and skills multiple times throughout the series.
He memorizes the names and faces of the entire school in what's implied to be a single night.
"I borrowed the school list yesterday."
He doesn't downplay it too much, just a little when Suo praises him for it. He does something similar after the fight with KEEL, where he doesn't seem to think him calling for backup was anything special at all.
It's not something that shows up a lot, nor is it something big. It's just him lacking the confidence to take credit for what he's done.
I think it's worth mentioning though, as I think him memorizing the names and faces of the entire school is incredibly impressive.
As soon as Nirei gets himself together after Sakura saves him, we get introduced to his notebook! A small notebook that he collects data of "the guys he finds cool" in. He asks Sakura questions about himself, such as his height, weight, blood type and birthday. He also seems to have data on specific fights people have been in.
His notebook, as well as his lack of fighting ability, set him up as something similar to your typical mission control, or "the guy in the chair" sort of role, as well as the coward. Though he lacks the tech genius typical of the former and is more geared towards providing Sakura and the others with relevant information on the opponent.
But what makes his growth so satisfying, that sets him apart from other similar characters, is his strive to become stronger and help others.
Something I find so satisfying about Nirei's development is him being the one to drive it. He's the one to seek training, to strive to be better.
He's never told to stay behind despite someone needing to protect him, never cast out for it. The others, especially Suo, are entirely willing to take on the workload of protecting him. The only person to say anything about it is Tone Hansuke when fighting Suo.
Nirei is also willing to put himself at risk in order to help someone else out. We see this in almost all the major fights. First when we meet him, again when against KEEL, when he takes over for Suo on the bridge, as well as when he volunteers to take on Endo at the school.
(Honorable mention for him attempting to stop Shizuka from giving herself up)
This all paired with his role as Sakura's vice captain, as well as his promise to help Sakura to the top, eventually lead him to ask Suo to teach him to fight. Not because someone told him to, but because he himself wanted to.
And the training has seriously paid off! I have to bring up the bridge again, just because of how significant that fight is for him! Because not only does Nirei manage to cover for Suo while he's busy fighting with Obiki Kaito, but he also throws his first real punch!!
Sure, it's not a good punch, barely does anything. But that doesn't matter, because just the act of him throwing that punch is so significant!
And that brings us to where we are in the manga right now! He hasn't really been in a fight since Endo, and is instead helping Sugishita out!
I've officially run out of things to talk about, but I'd be happy to talk more about specific arcs or moments for him if someone wants to!! I'm desperate to talk about Wind Breaker at this point!!!
#I love adding pictures to these things#adds some kind of fun and whimsy#also so sorry this took so long lmaoaooa#im not all that good at writing and i keep having to send parts of these to my friends all like “do i sound like an idiot”#the answer is always that no i dont sound like an idiot#and then i happily write on#anyways uhh this is for like the three or four people who wanted it#and also bc i jump up and down in joy thinking about how far nirei has come#i am so so proud of him#anyways uhh tags . what do i tag ...#wind breaker#nirei akihiko#akihiko nirei#laauranenn

Felassan's notes section of this post -
In this episode of the Game Informer show, Game Informer talk some more about their trip to BioWare's studio for the DA:TV cover story, when BioWare showed them hours of DA:TV content while playing it live.
Some notes from this and from what they said:
Wesley LeBlanc wasn't a huge DA fan and he went in with no expectations. The job to go to BW for this just landed on his plate due to other peoples' schedules. After seeing the game, it's probably his most anticipated game for the rest of the year and the one he's most looking forwards to
The game really wowed him and stuck with him, he said he is thrilled about it and is engrossed in the fantasy it's bringing
The visuals and world finally feel like what BioWare has maybe always wanted to make
This is the game where the team said, yeah, we feel fully in command of the Frostbite engine, and it shows
The world is more like Fable-type whimsy than prior DA games. It has a high fantasy feel
BW want new people to play the game. They're very aware that it's been 10 years since the last game and the game does a good job of catching people up
Rook as the PC really has no idea what's going on with Solas and all the other lore-specific stuff that's happening in the game, so they kind of act as the stand-in for newer players or people who have not caught up on the lore
But it's not just a game for newcomers, there is still a lot to chew on in the game for hardcore DA fans. BioWare were saying that they know their community, what it wants and what it's looking for out of these characters
Wesley enjoyed the music, visual design, and voice acting
Nothing that they saw about the game stood out as worrisome to him
Wesley has quite a lot of further stories to add to Game Informer's DA:TV hub
Wesley: "On the topic of the [Dragon Age] fanbase, I just wanna give a shoutout to that community, because, wow, I did not, I knew people would be stoked about this cover, but people are really stoked about this cover. And it’s really funny, the day that we announced it, I got like hundreds of new followers. Anytime, if I tweet about Erdtree or Destiny 2, I get like my normal amount of likes, like, a dozen maybe, y’know, whatever. If I tweet about Dragon Age, it’s like. Today I tweeted, ‘my next feature is coming at 3pm’ and it’s at 1000 likes, it’s so funny, like, this community is like rabid for information, which makes sense if you haven’t gotten a game in 10 years. But yeah, so like, shoutout to y’all, I’m loving you guys reading the articles and telling me what you wanna hear about. So if you have any questions or anything, get at me on Twitter for sure, and I will see what I can cook up with some writing for you. But yeah, shoutout to the BioWare community, y’all crazy.”

:) I'm the anon who started writing about Stella to get some of my frustration of her development out. I don't think I'll ever post it, but the idea of it I really like and would like an opinion on. If not, no worries delete at will. Just sharing some fun in annoying times
Might be a mountain of a molehill but Stolas's line when they're fighting in the circus? "I have tried for so many years to make this life comfortable for us— But it was never enough." That specifically is my crux. Toying around with the idea that it always was going to be too little. He's a man with an abundance of power, possibly to change their situation entirely. But he instead settles for making their place "comfortable" instead of changing it. Having Stella hate him for that, it being where her abuse comes from instead of her just being like that.
It's fun to me and kind of understandable, empathetic even, which is how I love shitty people be written. Stella refuses a "comfortable" prison spot and fights against the brick wall of Stolas's complacency and rejects Most of the responsibilities of her role. There isn't much else she can do with unfortunately still being in this weak position herself with no powers or influence like Stolas. He's all she has to thrash against since she can't reach her hands all the way up the ladder to the source of her problems and stop it herself. It isn't much. But there's some whimsy for her in the idea of the power she has over Stolas with her abuse. Even if that power is very much an illusion and never existed in the first place. To Stella, that's the most comfort Stolas can offer since he won't do anything else with what he has.
You don't know how much I wish this were canon. It would add some desperately needed depth to both Stella and Stolas.
"He's all she has to thrash against since she can't reach her hands all the way up the ladder to the source of her problems and stop it herself." There's no limit to what this show could achieve if Viv were empathetic and intelligent enough to do something with this.

Christmas with the Iscariots
no warnings | platonic | gn! Reader (not much mentioned tho)
Just a silly lil' interlude for my friend @silly-unhiged-frov.🎁
A/N: Busy with the holidays but I'll try to write some HC's and christmas whimsy for you guys in between!
Anderson initially only aggreed to spend christmas time the 'modern' way for the children's sake, always claiming it completely misses the purpose of celebrating Jesus' birth. But damn did he grow fond of it over time, it's easily his favourite holiday. He plans everything himself, aiming to make it a magical experience for the wee ones. Due to his tall build he's always the one tasked with installing all the christmas lights, and each year he'd lift you up to place the star on top of the tree. Will still make sure no one forgets about the actual meaning of christmas of course, but the additions just add to his joy.
Heinkel and Yumie love to spend the holidays 'back home' at the orphanage. Usually they dress up as santa and elf to surprise the children, help decorate or bake christmas cookies. Hang around every single christmas market in their vincinity and will drag you along. They'll force you to participate in one of those cheesy stage-plays at the church - if they have to go through it, then so do you.
Maxwell, as per usual, will act like he absolutely doesn't care, it's beneath him, blah blah. And still, miraculously, Iscariot donates a great portion of money to the orphanage every year...👀 He'll ask you to buy some gifts for the whole lot and treat yourself to whatever, since he is absolutely horrendrous with that kind of thing. Brings himself to visit Anderson and the others at least on christmas eve, but really prefers to spend the rest of the holidays in peace and quiet.
Makube does a lot of reflecting and praying on his own before the actual holidays, but afterwards he spends every second with his brethren at Iscariot. Is definetly down to whatever you suggest to prepare or do, but beware he's one of those guys who gets into arguments at the dinner table easily. He's chill in general, but knows how to push people's buttons just for fun. Also this man has a bad case of sweet tooth and eats until his stomach aches. Good luck tryna stop him from complaining.

been having a lot of fun with blockbench in the past few days, i made a few animals i wish were in minecraft (im not good at colouring in mc style so they remain flat coloured)
some info abt the mobs under the cut
so we know minecraft is an enviromentalist game and has been prioritizing interracting with mobs without killing them and i feel like tumblr is the only safe space where i can say i agree with that, so no useful loot dropped upon killing any of them, youre gonna have to be nice
River otter
neutral (will only attack back once like pandas)
spawns in small groups in rivers
can be bred with eggs
sometimes spawns holding a nautilus shell which it will happily trade for some salmon
hostile to tadpoles, baby turtles and drowneds
definitively tied to an achievement that has a cheesy "otter" pun in its title
African penguin
passive
spawn in groups on stony shores
can be bred with raw cod
will lay eggs as blocks like turtles, always lay two eggs
occasionally will dig through a gravel block if they find any nearby, pulling out an item, it's mostly something unamusing like sticks or flint, but rarely they might find pottery sherds or iron nuggets
Puffin
passive
out of the existing biomes, i think stony shores would be most fitting for them to spawn in, but i'd like to propose a new biome, cliffside (tall steep mountain right by the sea) it would look something like this
also would like to propose a new fish, sandeel (might make a model of them) which can be fed to puffins to breed them
if fed enough raw cod or salmon, the puffin will sit on players shoulder
when sailing with a puffin on shoulder, the boat speed will increase, regardless if in water, on land or on ice (thought that might be a more practical version of the proposed penguin function)
Pine marten
a rare mob that spawns in old growth taigas
passive, will run away from the player on sight
can be made trusting by feeding them apples, trusting martens will not run away and will follow a player holding apples or either kind of berries (which they can also be bred with
bringing a trusting pine marten to a village will increase the amount of emeralds gotten in a trade (this may sound random, but its actually a reference to their cultural significance in croatia)
hostile to chickens, rabbits and baby turtles
Red panda
passive
spawns in bamboo jungle
can climb bamboo and doesnt take fall damage
hurting a red panda near villagers will make them do angry particles like with giant pandas
can be bred with bamboo
by this point i had a hard time thinking of a function, but aparently they need to have one or else minecraft players get angry (because cuteness and whimsy is not enough APARENTLY /j)
will occasionally break a bamboo block theyre holding onto, but they never break the bottom block so the bamboo keeps on growing (could be used for bamboo farming)
Lemur
neutral
spawns in small groups at treetops in jungles
hostile to any kind of illagers and scare off ravagers
can be bred with pumpkin pie
dance to music discs (i mean obviously)
Albatross
passive
spawn rarely over cold and frozen oceans
if fishing with an albatross flying nearby, the player will get a status effect that increases their chance of finding rare loot (it stacks with luck of the sea)
can't be bred
Whale shark
i can somewhat understand mojang not wanting to add sharks because they dont want to encourage kids to kill it by making them hostile, nor to encourage kids to interract with sharks by making them passive, but a whale shark is RIGHT THERE
passive
spawn in deep warm oceans
will consume any floating item they encounter
after consuming a certain amount of items, they make kelp, seagrass and corals around them grow
can't be bred, but might spawn as pups
#attempt 76364736235838 at publishing this post without it breaking#holy shit it worked#minecraft penguin its not too late for you#the fact that there are no mustelids in minecraft yet is a crime against me personally#minecraft#minecraft mobs#mineblr#minecraft animals#blockbench#my art#lowkeiart

Hi, Miss Raven! What're your thoughts on the new characters' designs and the new cards we're getting?
[You can see the designs for the Halloween 2023 cards and other related TWST news here!]
I'll post my general thoughts below! I unfortunately don't know enough about Pinocchio myself to point out all the little easter eggs in their outfits, so I'll leave that to those who are more knowledgeable than me.
***Spoilers below the cut!!***
Regarding the NRC boys' looks overall, I think it's a very fun theme and very fitting for the location of the event. I like that they all still wear masks, just in a different context than in Glorious Masquerade. One thing I did notice is that the masks seem... same-y? Like they all resemble thick tree roots or something like that. So maybe they aren't masks at all, but they're associated with whatever the conflict in the story is. (I previously suggested mind control or the loss of consciousness, so maybe the "roots" play into that???) You can see the marionette theme Yana was going for, as well as some design elements from Black Butler's circus arc, very clearly. The poses for each of the boys, even the R cards, are extremely dynamic and imply a strong sense of movement. The ribbons are such a simple detail that contributes a lot to this sense of whimsy and flow.
Some comments I have on specific designs and poses:
Suspenders are so... Trey 💀 THERE'S REALLY NOTHING ELSE FOR ME TO ADD HERE, THEY JUST SUIT HIM
I like it when Trey makes these kind of slightly sus but plausibly deniable faces... He should make more of them...
I can't see the front of Jack's outfit that well, so I don't know if I can fully comment on it??? But I can see his. Like. Physique... coming through... That chest to waist ratio/j
Seeing Jack's tail like that kinda weirds me out. I think that's the first time we've gotten a "full" view of how the tails look coming out of the pants??? So maybe I'll get more used to it with time...
J WORD MY BELOVED dghgqwktvwukdviu1vdutw1513FR7vuofOTVUofvfaafvfyivs.,bk;mobsdb;ibuafetvuqoffSEythTOTqebivfguovqnafCUtuiUIEtt please ignore my bias 🤡 The way his top hat is angled and how there's a dark blue ribbon around him... It vaguely looks like he's trying to pass as Crowley, LOL
I like how his undershirt is frilled and how he has that sash at his waist it reminds me of the genderbent design for my TWST OC! The fact that both he and Floyd have the eel emblem that resembles a heart is also really cute~
Lilis is my favorite design of the R cards!! There's a very good distribution of ruffles throughout the look, and his knotted skirts fit well with his personal flair.
I'm not a huge fan of the style of hat Cater's wearing (sorry to all the Cay-kun stans out there), but I can appreciate his look. His dress appears more militant than Trey's, and his posing is certainly more aggressive--it's nice to see him in this new light.
FHIBBAILAIBASIADIHBLBUDB EVERY TIME I SEE L*ONA NOW I'M GOING TO THINK OF THE ONE REBLOG I SAW THAT SAID "of course leona has his tits out again" BECAUSE THEY'RE RIGHT, HE'S LITERALLY THE GIRLIE THAT DRESSES SLUTTY ON HALLOWEEN AND SOMEHOW NEVER GETS COLD 😭 You go, king... Live your best life!!
Love L*ona-san’s new hairstyle here!! 👀
The way Floyd is posed reminds me of those people that walk around on stilts. I think I much prefer the coloration on Floyd's outfit than on Jade's, but I prefer Floyd's jacket to Jade's. I think Floyd's the best of the SR designs!
Shockingly, Vil's look doesn't stand out to me that much??? I enjoy his sash, but I don't immediately pick up on anything in his illustration that catches my eye.
His pose resembles that of a ballerina, which just makes me think about the time he assigned Epel and Deuce extra (ballet) dance lessons in book 5 ajdbhasivldsadued
Of the SSRs, Ace is definitely my favorite one. He just looks so dramatic soaking up that spotlight and trying to look cool while doing it... Bro's 100% thinking, "heheheheh, I'm SO awesome :))" in his head.
Ace's design also reminds me a lot of Jack Hearts (from Disney Villain Recruiters). Not sure if it was intentional or not, but I'm definitely super into it!
HHNNNNNGNGHGHHGHGNGNGHHGHGHGHGHHHHH I WANNA BITE HIS HEAD OFF AND BULLY HIM SO BAD, I WANNA WIPE THAT SMIRK OF FHIS DUMB FACEe Am I seriously about to revert back to my Brat Loving era for Trappola... Maybe so...
I was pretty much expecting a SSR Ace (because he's a trickster with a brother that works in an amusement park) and Ortho (literally a robot that became a real boy), but Kalim took me by surprise. In hindsight, I guess it makes sense though...? Kalim has a similar immature vibe as the other two (plus I do remember there being this one scene in Aladdin where the Sultan was dressed like a jester that was being maneuvered on puppet strings).
It's great that Kalim gets to be a little out of his usual element and make darker, more mysterious expressions like what we see in his new illustration. I'm not sure if I entirely agree with how he's dressed (the yellow jacket is WAY too bright), but I love his his coattails (???) trail behind him in waves.
OR-KUN MY SON 😭😭😭 As is the case with all of his gears, I adore how the devs creatively adapted clothing into metal parts for Ortho! The half-caplet is easily the best part of the whole look for me (the pattern on it reminds me of stars falling down)--and because Ortho has a smaller stature, the type of hat he's wearing isn't as offputting; it actually looks very cute on him.
ANYWAY, VERY HAPPY THAT ORTHO GETS TO HAVE A HALLOWEEN SSR TO MATCH HIS BROTHER'S HALLOWEEN SSR FROM LAST YEAR... They match!!!
... Is that the fucking cricket on Ortho’s cape... and the goldfish on Kalim’s scarf… AND THE CAT ON ACE’S WAIST… What does this meeeean 🤡
And now for my thoughts on the two new boys!! Honestly?? I don't actually have much to comment on in this regard because I try to reserve my judgment of characters until I've actually seen them in action. I haven't seen Pinocchio either, so I don't have a strong basis for what their personalities would be like based on their original Disney counterpart. I only vaguely understand that Honest John and Gideon trick children into visiting Pleasure Island... That's it, that's the full extent of my knowledge on that pair. I don't have any other expectations going in other than "yeah, these two are going to swindle me".
Gidel looks like a mix of Cheka and Ruggie to me (because of the hair and the eye shape). He seems like he’ll be the other guy’s goon, similar to how Jade and Floyd/Ruggie follow Azul/Leona. Nothing else for me to add, Gidel seems alright… Just a silly lil’ guy!
I have more… mixed thoughts on Ferro. One one hand, he looks like the exact kind of shady bitch I’d love. (You know, the ones that smile and lie and manipulate and drive a knife into your back and—LOOK, HE’S VERY J WORD CORE) On the other hand, I’m beating back the “you like cat/dog boys” allegations from my friends, so 💀 I can’t give in so easily/j
Looks-wise, Ferro’s iteration of the rat tail hair is not as ugly to me as Malleus’s is. (I think it’s because it looks more windswept!) I also really like how he dresses—very dapper 😌 and he can pull off green eyeshadow well!
I’m wondering how they’ll make Ferro different than the other con artists we’ve seen so far *eyes Octavinelle* but I’m keeping my hopes up since the devs did a good job remixing the “I have a dead brother and I feel immense guilt about it” backstory for Rollo (when Idia had a similar one). Looking forward to that~
I’m sure my thoughts will chance once I actually get to see them in the event! ^^ I’ll keep you posted. For now, I’ll keep cautious. (Actually, this fan art basically summarizes my current feelings on the two! I’m Rollo/j)

ok its after 8pm time for my nightly gladman point skeleton posting power hour. welcome to speculation city
june 1845 - sept 1845, henry making idle notes about how the expedition's going because well. yes. of course

1846 - henry gets really into bullet journaling in the first winter wherein the ships are docked in devon harbor/beechey island. also it's cold as fuck and he's starting to realize it's gonna be cold as fuck for a long while yet, and after recently rekindling a relationship Of Some Kind with tom armitage, he starts getting nostalgic about partying in venezuela when he was 23 which is funny because on one hand we have very hard ground to heave on the morrow (gravedigging, hauling to the cairn, etc) but also omgggg do you remember stuart the shipcat he was the best. that party ruled does anyone else remember how fun that nye party was!!!

april 1847 - after months of teaching his good friend tom armitage his letters (finally), tom manages to get a parody flirty smutty version of barry cornwall's 'the sea' written down after henry had recited it aloud from memory and henry is so proud about how quickly tom's taken to writing after 40 something years of adamantly refusing to learn, that he keeps the page in his wallet

june 1847 - sir john dies and henry decides to take some asides about the funeral speech, presumably under the impression that they'd get home again at some point and he could decipher it and make it presentable later. officers do seem to be dropping quite quickly though and the inclination that things might not be working out excellently starts around here.

july thru dec 1847 - the terror camp in cape felix is established and henry overhears calls that camp is clear over and over and over enough times that he thinks its worth writing down while doing his silly spiral doodles to pass the time in the evenings

spring 1848 - the crews abandon the ships for real this time and the fear that he's not getting out of the arctic alive starts to feel more and more real each day, and in a vague attempt to keep himself from being lost and forgotten to history, he writes down a frantic account of his navy career in his cleanest neatest most legible handwriting possible. for future searchers to be able to read. also, messages get passed between erebus camp and terror camp and the men are inventing fake addresses for the letters between camps for...... whimsy? missing london society? i dont know

end of 1848 - the Unwellnesses and the Agonies are really settling in amongst the whole crew but hey. at least he still has the brain power for poems written backwards.

early 1849 - powering thru this dismal ass expedition's survival attempts based on absolutely nothing but the desperate nostalgia of being young and sexy and warm. thank goodness tom armitage is still here to help him remember specific details about the clubs in the caribbean. and we are simply too tired to continue the backwards code, but no one's pawing through his personals anyways, it hardly matters

mid to late 1849 - henry dies from [REDACTED] and tom armitage takes it upon himself to carry henry's wallet and pages forward south with the expedition because it would be impossible to carry his actual physical corpse with them because everyone else, himself included, are too weak and sick for such a thing. theyve been leaving their dead behind since they were at beechey, what makes henry's remains so special and different? the survivors keep heading south along the coastline of king william island
spring 1850 - the expedition, lead by aglooka, camp briefly nearby some inuit families. they stay in one place for quite a while, and tom armitage decides they're so fucking cooked and never getting off this island. he doesn't have the supplies or means to write anything to add to the wallet, so he does his best at identifying himself by getting dressed in his steward uniform, some things that were relevant to being a steward, henry's wallet, henry's shirt with the ink stains on the cuff, and walks off to the ocean shoreline until he drops dead and falls face down with the wallet underneath his chest to keep it safe from the arctic elements
1859 - mcclintock's search party stumbles across his skeleton on accident while looking for a cairn and go WHOAAAAA ITS A SKELETON and lift the steward tools + henry's wallet out from his ribs and take them back to england to be archived
1973 - the 1st battalion rcr goes back to doublecheck mcclintock's notes and go WHOAAAAA ITS A SKELETON and lay what remains of tom out on a plywood board from a hardware store and snap some pics. then they pack him up and mail his bones to the national museum of man & then the museum loses his bones

2018 - amc gives this storyline to a 26 year old from the opposite ship who had no prior history with henry for some reason and also demotes it to a sub-sub-plot. i dont know. smashing my head through a wall.
2022 - doug stenton shows up and says hey ummmm should we be more concerned about the fact that the entire fucking skeleton went missing. let me do some research i guess
2024 - i show up and start connecting the dots while working on the facsimile project of the papers. henry's fate still unknown. tom's bones still missing in action. the actual papers hidden behind an unbearably steep paywall thats gonna take me a decade to afford. facsimile project kind of overshadowed by jfj cannibalism confirmation on the same day. i keep being crazed on my blog anyways.
ok yay

Modern! Meadowlark Headcanons (Cole Edition)
(I decided to separate the characters because I have a lot to say about each of them and if I did them all in one post it would be extremely long)
• They would be known as the quiet awkward kid in school. People think they’re nice but nobody besides the Lark knows them well. A little bit of a mystery
• Probably in a club or two (most likely music and/or drama) but they don’t interact much with the other members unless absolutely necessary or it’s approached first (They’re too shy to approach first)
• If they were in Drama, it would rarely audition for a part in a play. They mostly work backstage as a sound designer or design set pieces
• Wouldn’t like horror movies. They don’t enjoy the violence and gore. Also not a fan of movies depicting war or end of the world type shit
• Huge book worm. They would spend their lunch breaks in the library reading. Not picky about the genre they read but it does have a soft spot for fantasy and mystery
• Would prefer online learning over actually going to school
• Had a 2020 alt phase (it haunts them in their dreams but they also sort of miss it)
• Not a huge fan of anime but they wouldn’t mind watching it if their friends really wanted to
• Huge fan of Gravity Falls. It finds the mystery aspect of the show interesting and they relate to Dipper a lot
• Beside Gravity Falls, they also like Over the Garden Wall, Charlie Brown movies, Winnie the Pooh, and Scooby Doo (specifically the old school and mystery incorporated versions but any of era is fine with them)
• I’m a bit iffy on this one but I think they would like gummies and probably prefer them over chocolate. It wouldn’t like sour ones though, just classic gummy candy like gummy worms, bears, etc
• LOVESSS ASMR. They would listen to it all the time. Reading, doing homework, sleeping- whatever it’s doing, they’re listening to asmr
• Other than music, their favourite subjects in school would be history and english (specifically creative writing, they don’t really enjoy writing essays)
• Prefers older music rather than today’s music. Unless it’s folk of some kind, they would prefer to listen to bands and musicians from the 60s and back. Additionally, it strikes me as the type to believe love songs back then and better than love songs today
• Would love watching those analysis videos on YouTube. It doesn’t matter what the topic being discussed is, they’ll watch it anyways because it just enjoys learning
• Because of their love for analysis videos, they know a bunch of fun facts about a variety of subjects. If someone were to ask them something about a particular subject, they would most likely know the answer, no matter how obscure it is
• I feel like they would absolutely rock the very controversial fashion trend of wearing skirts over pants. This is already somewhat canon but I still think it’s worth mentioning
• Along with skirts over pants, Cole would prefer wearing loose comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in
• Some staple pieces in their wardrobe would include: Long sleeve shirts, baggy t-shirts, sweater vests, button ups, zip up sweaters, loose pants, and flowy skirts
• Their style is very casual with just a dash of whimsy to keep things interesting, add some drama y’know?
That’s all the headcanons I have for now, next up is Clémentine <3
#Sorry this took so long to post#I literally did this all last night and I was so tired afterwards#I was practically falling asleep as I was writing#Still it was fun coming up with these#Yaelokre#meadowlark headcanons#meadowlark#cole yaelokre#the lark

The haiku bot reblogged my ATLA post. :(
I personally generally think the bot is kind of cute, if kind of uninteresting after a while, though there's something to perhaps be said about being mindful of the structure of everyday sentences? Idk, I think it's a "your mileage may vary" kind of thing. At this point, I'm personally more interested in reading a book about the history and present of actual haiku and the surrounding culture or something, so I guess I like it fine (neutral to positive sentiments towards the cute bot?) but also don't find its additions to be specifically appealing to my interests at this particular moment. I'm overall that it glad it exists, though! It does bring a sense of whimsy!
But I really do not enjoy my own posts blowing up or getting too far outside my general circle, so this is kind of an unpleasant experience? I turn off reblogs sometimes if posts get too big, or I phrased things badly and I'm not communicating my original concept well (so I should maybe rephrase later), or someone adds something that kind of takes over the post, which I don't mind necessarily, it's often very cool when people get excited and add fun stuff, but I don't really always want all of the notifications for it on my activity page? I'm generally trying for a small-ish, SVSSS-focused fandom blog of people who know me enough to understand my general vibe and usual perspective. I made a post for other people in that fandom, you know? Not for people to comment on the haiku bot showing up at the end of my silly fic idea.
This is not, like, by any means a tragedy and I'm not seriously annoyed. I do think it's funny that this happened to me after 10 years on Tumblr. I was really not expected this at all? It's almost a pleasant surprise in a way? I'm not turning reblogs off on that ATLA post yet or anything.
Just saying, I guess, that if the haiku bot or any other prominent bot reblogging your posts is an experience that you personally know that you do not want, maybe preemptively blocking them is a good idea? I've blocked the bot on this blog now, because idk, I looked at my activity page and realized that this happening was fine, cute, whatever, but I REALLY DO NOT want this potentially happening to some silly post about Shang Qinghua being stupid horny for Mobei-Jun or something.

WAIT. wait no not just I wonder which of the meeplers would be the best at chess.
IMAGINE. they have full-on tournaments. the more competitive ones study openings prior. someone else has to move the pieces for mepad but that's okay. 3gs is there. 4s is there.
and yk what, let's add ALL the meeplers to this tournament. 1. 2. 3 and 3g, 5 and 5s and 5c, 6 and 6+, 7 and 7+, X. the meeple extended family, if you will.
I wonder what all their playstyles would be. how many of them would think to use an already-existing chess engine before they were told that's cheating. which ones wouldn't care if it's cheating and are therefore on my enemies list /hj
here's my hcs:
4s would play very aggressively and prefer when he castles the opposite way that his opponent does* (<- totally not projecting the castling thing)
3gs would probably be very wary and reluctant to play because there are A Lot of objects there and most of them were made by cobs
X doesn't know how to play chess and someone has to explain the rules to it
Toilet is there, because he's an honorary meepler. although he'd probably be out the first round 😔
various of the 'newer' meeplers would be arguing for like 20 minutes on who's the best and would have to be reminded that hey. you can Prove It.
*fun fact that's called Opposite Side Castling, which spells out OSC
Ouh… the meep chess tournament… I mentioned thinking mepad would be good at chess in my previous response but. I did kinda forget he doesn’t have hands to move the pieces with 💔💔💔 it’s okay though like you mentioned the other meeps are there they can help
(Also anon… I don’t know where else to include this but I regret to inform you that mephone2 and mephone3 don’t exist…. It goes from mephone1 to mephone3g to mephone3gs 💔💔💔)
I think many of the newer meeples would probably think to just use a preexisting chess bot of some kind… specifically the newer ones from like 6 and onward… they’re just told to “play chess” and are like “well okay. I’ll just use the easiest solution and go for the pre-existing algorhythm rather than trying myself.” Something something cobs making the mephones for efficiency at that point (even though he’s clearly not that good at it) rather than for personality and stripping them of their personality 💔💔💔 and I don’t know who wouldn’t care if it was cheating or not… maybe 6 and 6+ because iirc from what little we saw of them they were all like “bleh!!! I’m the newest mephone!! You can’t get through me!!”. They are definitely getting disqualified for cheating.
Ouh… 4s playing aggresisvely is very very real. and. opposite side castling… osc…. object show community…. I see what you did there…
Also yeah I can definitely see current-day 3gs being very reluctant to play. My answer to your first ask was specifically about pre-closet 3gs (back before and during the shimmer mission and such) but I can imagine that now that he’s out of the closet he’d definitely be more wary of playing it… perhaps it brings back a bad memory or two.
I have nothing to say on X learning how to play chess I just think the concept is funny. Family bonding! Teaching the dubiously sentient robot designed to kill people that your abusive corn father made how to play chess… in full honesty though I love when people give X redemption please let that dubiously sentient murder robot learn to feel joyous whimsy and have fun…
Yeah toilet is definitely getting out very early 💔💔💔 the only scenario that I can imagine he wins in is mepad giving him the win because mepad is a very kind man and he cares about toilet…. And also him winning by default over 6 and 6+ because theyre CHEATERS!!!!
Also the newer meeplers arguing over who’s the better chess player is so silly to me but also very very true… I can invision that happening… in my head it’s specifically the fives and the sixes because to me theyre the ones with the big “i’m the latest and greatest mephone!! egos
#mind you I don’t even play chess… but you’ve got me very interested I love these thoughts#inanimate insanity#all meeplers confession#ii meeple#meeple confession#the queue-ture is so yesterday

What single track would you use to introduce your bg3 OC?
thank you for the tag @scandistar <3 this game was hard (how do i choose one song omg???) but also so much fun!!
🗣 Rules:
Pick 1 song for each OC!
Include a link to the song/artist/composer
You can add more than one OC (but no more than 3)
brief canon/lore (I'm a curious sort)
Tag people!
tags for: @redroomroaving @lizziemajestic @judasiskariot if you want to <3
(Note: Any fandom is welcome to join!! And please, don't forget to link to your fanfics so we can find them! It's time to shine, babes!)
my beloved tav from a change of heart who i have no screenshots of so you're getting a couple of picrews
picrew 1 and picrew 2
Tav/OC name: tavaxeni tumbledown Level: 12 (10 pre-canon) Race: tiefling Born: baldurian (tumbledown) Background: criminal/soldier Class: rogue thief/fighter multi class Alignment: chaotic neutral Love interest: no aradin Sworn enemy: happiness, it seems.
backstory short: growing up on the rugged outskirts of baldur's gate on her grandmother's small farm, she spent her childhood ditching school (she's really bad at reading and counting (go to school kids!!!)), roaming the streets, fighting with the brampton boys (probably didn't get killed because she was faster and better at hiding than them), nicking things off whoever looked like they could afford losing some gold, got thrown in jail a couple of times, got better at lock picking her way out of jail. joined a semi-legal mercenary band to "straighten herself up", sort of just ended up working a lot of security for the rich tossers that she loathes the most. cares for her people and the less fortunate and would probably be a folk hero is she didn't cut corners and made impulsive and stupid decisions.
i have a playlist for the fic, some are relationship songs and some are just for her. it was sooooo hard to choose one but this one's both vibe and a bit of lyrics.
don't look back into the sun - the libertines
Don't look back into the sun You've cast your pearls, but you're on the run And all the lies you said, who did you save?
...
They will never forgive you, but they won't let you go (let me go) She will never forgive you, but she won't let you go, oh no
(other honourable mentions: the fallen AND bite hard by franz ferdinand, take aim by kasabian, do me a favour by arctic monkeys, better in the dark by jordana & tv girl, do the right thing by d.i.d)
~*~*~*~*~*~
tav number 2! (or number one, truly, my golden child) from you keep showing up
(same picrew makers as above (and her hair should be a colder brown in the right one smh))
Tav/OC name: ester tavanthuriel Level: 12, 15 pre-canon Race: moon elf Born: evereska Background: noble Class: storm sorcerer Alignment: chaotic good (or chaotic whimsy as someone described her in a comment which i really liked) Love interest: raphael Sworn enemy: [redacted]
short backstory: as the second child of an evereskan noble family, she was born with both a silver spoon and the lucky feat. really, i mean it, spoiled rotten for a century!!! but as it is with second children, they have the purpose of being used in political marriages. now, tav's a free spirit, and getting tied down in marriage was just about the last thing she'd like to do with her life. thus, she postponed it through arguing she needed to pursue academia for a while and went to silvery moon. spent a couple of years there before fucked off and traveling the sword coast, spending a decade here and there (ran a potion shop in neverwinter, a restaurant in waterdeep, went to baldur's gate to open up a flower shop before getting snatched by the nautiloid), ignoring the letters and sendings from her family but still picking up the gold they sent her way (spoiled rotten, as i say. though that's kind of her parents way of showing love since they don't really know how to talk to each other without putting their own expectations on tav and making her lash out). and here we are!
i do not have a playlist for this fic or for tav so i had to think long and hard about this one... (technically it should be you keep showing up by drowners but it has nothing to do with them except i thought the title was fitting lol).
sprawl ii - arcade fire
now this one's a feeling, i can imagine her listening to this as a young elf in her room, wanting to see the world and what's beyond.

just thinking about how the musical numbers in wonka are so much more fun when you think of them all as diegetic
(i’m gonna put a read more for courtesy but. please click it i put so much thought into this)
some of them are explicitly so-scrub scrub is stated to be the group’s work song, lofty says his own song and dance can’t be stopped once it starts, abacus cues the wash crew on beat as they work behind the scenes of the shop’s opening, etc. this doesn’t happen super often in musical movies nowadays, which adds to the whimsy of this one
in the original catcf book, the demise of each “bad kid” (and the ethics of that is a WHOLE different-and lengthy-post) gets a song from the oompa loompas, and all adaptations include those; the 2005 film is the only one to have no non-diegetic songs, while the 1971 film and west end/bway stage adaptation have loads. this prequel, however, seems to lean hard into the idea of wonka as a showman-but an earnest one-who brings not only a new taste but also a new sound to the Unnamed European City™️ that he turns upside down.
colin’s newfound confidence wins the day when barbara sees him singing and dancing on a table, which is apparently just the kind of adventure she was looking for. willy shows his plan to the wash crew by presenting it in a reprise of their song, like he’s speaking their language. it’s the sound of the newcomer’s siren song, not just the crowd, that draws the scheming cartel to their windows. there are so many interesting things revealed about the characters if you look at it that way
for a moment starts rather quietly, and noodle’s singing to herself; she doesn’t sing aloud to start, but then willy does, and he’s in perfect counterpoint to her melody that he’s barely even heard yet. then, by the end, she’s *really* singing, because she’s finally found someone who’ll listen. they literally invented siblingism i’m gonna cry
and don’t even get me started on sweet tooth. mat and paterson said in an interview that the cartel sort of stops being villainous the second the music starts, that their number is a seduction at its core, which is so damn true. the fact that it’s acknowledged as diegetic-the chief’s “why am i singing”, slugworth’s “let’s give him the big sell”, etc-means that this is something planned and practiced. there is so much comedy in that-scary powerful capitalists working on their fan choreography is a great image-but it also shows just how sinister they are. “conceal” rhymes with “deal”. they knew he’d say yes in the end. it was predetermined all along.
and a world of your own!! (this might not be a whole analysis paragraph i just wanted to say the way the pulse of the orchestration slowly builds starting at “chocolate bushes, chocolate trees” is so thrilling omg i felt like a kid again)
all this to say that i got sucked into this story for good upon hearing pure imagination for the first time in fourth grade and never looked back so it’s so neat that the prequel involves music in such a thoughtful way OKAY BYEEEEEEEE *mic drop*

Very random ask but what do you think the main casts favourite movie would be?
Okay, I had a lot of help from @misszura on this one because it was pretty tough. So we did a little brainstorming and this is what we came up with.
Evelyn
Generally, Evelyn tends to prefer movies that are on the more wholesome side.
Her favorite genres include fantasy, adventure, romance, and maybe some of the more light-hearted horror movies like Gremlins. Scary, but not too scary.
The Wizard of Oz is a favorite of hers, also The Goonies, The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, The NeverEnding Story, Beetlejuice, Willow, Willy Wonka.
She likes her movies to have a little whimsy to them.
Michael J. Fox is one of her celebrity crushes (along with Jason Bateman), so she definitely likes Teen Wolf and Back to the Future
Grease is another favorite of hers. As mentioned in the story, she enjoys Olivia Newton-John’s music, and I could see her really identifying with Sandy’s character as well as her relationship with Danny.
I mean, "Hopelessly Devoted to You" might as well be the theme of Evelyn’s life, right?
Hannah-Beth forced her to watch Dirty Dancing during a sleepover, and Evelyn was surprised by how much she enjoyed it. Add Patrick Swayze to her list of celebrity crushes.
Lastly, since she spends a lot of time with kids, Evelyn watches a lot of animated movies as well.
The Land Before Time makes her bawl like a baby every time she watches it.
Henry
Henry’s not big into movies.
He doesn’t have a ton of free time to just sit around, so I feel like most of his favorite movies are going to be ones he’s watched with Belch.
And I wouldn’t even say he has “favorites” honestly
So he’ll watch a lot of action movies, your classics: Mad Max, Die Hard, The Terminator, First Blood, Predator, Commando.
Horror movies also appeal to him.
Henry enjoys watching weak people suffer and die at the hands of some great, unstoppable force.
So your classic slashers: Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street.
He also enjoys Evil Dead and Hellraiser
But again, his level of engagement and enjoyment is going to be a lot lower than everyone else’s.
He has a hard time completely escaping into movies.
Patrick
Patrick’s another one who doesn’t feel any kind of special attachment to movies.
They’re all the same to him. He may as well be watching TV static.
He enjoys horror movies, though, but only when he’s watching them with other people. He finds their terrified reactions extremely fascinating and entertaining.
This concept could apply to any genre, I suppose, but horror tends to elicit the most intense response from people—girls, especially.
That being said, there are certain movies that stand out in his memory.
He was really looking forward to Cannibal Holocaust because of all the controversy surrounding it: the snuff film allegations, animal cruelty, etc.
It was a bit of a letdown.
Patrick was very disappointed to learn that nobody actually died while filming it. He was hoping it was a real snuff film. Those are a lot of fun.
As we know, Patrick likes dystopian literature, so A Clockwork Orange was right up his alley. He also enjoyed the book.
Otherwise, Patrick mostly just watches a bunch of weird (and illegal) shit.
Vic
Vic’s one of those people who tends to criticize every movie he watches.
Would I call him a snob? A little bit
Growing up, he ruined a lot of Evelyn’s favorite movies by exposing all the plot holes, continuity mistakes, and factual errors.
It got to the point where Evelyn almost stopped watching movies with him entirely.
Almost.
If given the choice, young Evelyn would have gladly had all her movies ruined if it meant spending time with Victor.
But anyway...
If Vic had to pick a favorite genre, it would probably be science fiction, movies like Blade Runner, Alien, Dune.
He doesn’t like to advertise these interests, so if anyone asked, he’d probably just say action or horror and be done with it.
Sci-fi is for nerds and geeks, after all.
Belch
Belch probably has the most diverse movie tastes of everyone
That boy will watch anything, truly anything.
As mentioned in Henry’s section, he loves all the classic 80s action movies, especially the ones starring Schwarzenegger, Stalone, or Segal, but he also enjoys a good comedy: movies like Police Academy and Animal House, Stripes, Blues Brothers.
A lover of baseball, Belch has watched The Bad News Bears many times, especially when he was younger.
This Is Spinal Tap is another favorite of his. Christie actually introduced him to that one.
Horror movies? They’re not his personal cup of tea, but they’re fun to watch with a group or on a date (especially on a date)
When he’s with Christie, he usually lets her pick the movie, so he watches a lot of John Hughes movies. Belch doesn’t mind.
He just likes movies in general.

Tress of the Emerald Sea - Brandon Sanderson
5/5 - refreshing main character; well worn, familiar, comfortable plot beats; more fun worldbuilding!
Tress of the Emerald Sea is easily my favorite of the Cosmere secret projects. Much as I felt watching later MCU projects, having a book that stands largely on its own, with minimal references to other lore, and a wonderful sense of whimsy is not only a fun and approachable new entrance to Sanderson's writing, but also a nice change of pace from his other works.
The plot beats feel quite familiar because they feel somewhat like a fairy tale and the book actually benefits from this. The journey that characters are undergoing, the dogged attempts to be better and to grow and to understand how they're changing is something that is so sweet and reliable to watch.
Tress is also just a breath of fresh air among Sanderson's protagonists. Not that the others can't be kind or inspiring or protective of those they love, but Tress is all of these things to a fault. She cares for those who she's never met. She's practically overflowing with empathy for everyone around her, abhors lying, and finds herself comfortable with herself as she's changed. I do feel that Sanderson is relying a little heavily on romance at times, but having the romance be something secondary to Tress as the plot progresses was something very dear to my heart.
I know that some people dislike Hoid's narration style, but I personally find him funny. I think he also functions as a bit of a mouthpiece for Sanderson's own ideologies at times, and while I could see how that would be something to critique as a monologue or as preaching, it feels very appropriate for the character. Plus, many of the things he says poke fun at the tropes of the epic hero dramas that Sanderson is so good at - it's important to me that he's able to laugh at himself a little here.
Finally, I must profess I am obsessed with the idea of a sea of spores. And not one sea of spores, but twelve, all of which have different growth patterns and effects. Turning water, something to vital to life, into something dangerous here adds a really delicious sense of tension to the novel. The fear is also something that's easily based on something people are familiar with - if you've ever seen a documentary on ant zombies or watched The Last of Us, you'll have lasting worries about fungal infection.
#bring back the whimsy in fantasy!! this was so delightfully hobbit-like i loved it so much#tress's only flaw is not being a lesbian. i thought we were gonna get a lesbian pirate in this but alas ... twas not to be#tress of the emerald sea#brandon sanderson#book review#fantasy#high fantasy#cosmere

As someone who is- at best- a Touhou secondary, can you offer any insight as to why there appears to be/is so much drama surrounding whether or not Merry is Yukari? “Seemingly Unrelated Character B grows up into/otherwise becomes Character A” is not an especially world-shattering story beat, and after reading your document it seems unbelievably obvious by 2005.
There's nothing that I can say is the overall reason as sadly I'm not a mind-reader, but I have some theories (some of which may be true in parallel, some of which may not be true at all):
A.) Touhou is a series that many fans believe is highly up to interpretation (due to the fact that they are otaku unused to literary elements such as the unreliable narrator; you can see this in, for example, responses to Umineko) so there's a degree of resistance to anything being "obviously intended".
B.) Many Touhou fans enjoy having opinions on things without reading the works that apply to these things; the music CDs in particular are a case where "fans of fans" are very common. This isn't necessarily a problem when discussing what people like, but it runs into issues when discussing, say, authorial intent.
C.) Youkai are kind of nasty, and Yukari is a particularly nasty variation. Many people don't like the idea of humans in Touhou becoming youkai in general.
D.) Due to B, as well as the obscurity of the two works that are written directly from Yukari's perspective, many people have an incorrect idea of Merry's personality, Yukari's personality, or both; this leads them to have an incorrect idea of the differences between the two. This is the "well, even if Yukari was Merry once, is there anything really left of her since she's so different?" objection.
E.) Many people see the idea of Merry ending up as a youkai as something tragic- they enjoy the idea of her and Renko going on adventures in their modern day forever. This is despite the fact that their sense of ennui in and disgust with the modern world is more apparent with each CD published.
F.) Also coming from E and B, people often have an interpretation of the club members as "innocent" and "childlike"; there's a general degree of belief in sweet, innocent, childish whimsy being what drives their actions in the CDs. Yukari being self-admittedly too tired to have stupid fun like the members of the Scarlet Devil Mansion going to the moon on their idiot rocket can seem like a contradiction in terms, and makes it seem "tragic".
G.) Also coming from E, many people seem to have the mistaken opinion that in order for Merry to have become a youkai, something terrible must have happened to Renko, and she's really torn up about it. Either that, or that she'll never see her again- this latter is common even in more level-headed interpretations, but makes little sense with, for example, the idea of Yuyuko Saigyouji existing. Anyway, people don't like to imagine the club being torn apart so rudely.
H.) An extension from G- people don't believe that Merry could ever be or become a youkai without harming Renko as they simply don't seem to have a strong metaphysical understanding of youkai from other Touhou works (and this idea is often played up for drama in popular fan media).
Generally speaking, it's mostly "she's so unlike this, so either this can't be true or if it was true it would be a terrible tragedy. and i can't stand terrible tragedies, so it can't be true" as large segments of the Hifuu fandom are a little bit immature about the idea of anything ever changing. In a sense, it's kind of treated like Class S yuri. Add to this a good helping of people not reading and not believing that anything not stated in so many words can be true, and you get a perfect storm of idiocy.
