A Quick And Dirty Guide To Turning Trad Gender Roles Into Feminist Theory!

How does it work? Why, it's mostly just a simple phrasebook! In order to do the bulk of the work, just rephrase your statements like so:

"Men should be the breadwinners; women belong in the home" -> "Ladies, fuck the grind and hold out for a guy who treats you like you deserve, don't settle for some lazy bastard who makes you support him!"

"Women are too weak to hack it in the dog-eat-dog real world, their job is to be wives and mothers, they're not tough or competitive enough to do anything else" -> "Women are socialized to be the caring, kind, Safe gender"

"Men are just stronger than women and that just plain makes them more capable and competent" -> "Men are stronger than women and that makes them SCARY and DANGEROUS"

"Boys will be boys, men are just GOING to be crude especially toward women, get used to it" -> "Men aren't taught self-control or manners and teaching them NOW is not your job at best and a hopeless endeavor at worst, they're too far gone, they're dangerous by nature, and there's nothing to be done about it, so they're not worth your time" (or, "kill all men"/"all men are trash")

"Men just can't help themselves, if you don't want men sexually harassing/abusing/assaulting you then don't tempt them, you're totally asking for it, how do you expect men to control themselves?" -> "We must protect the sanctity of Women's Spaces; any woman who wants to let a man in is a traitor who can't be trusted, doesn't she KNOW what will happen if we let men close? Men can't be trusted to behave ever so the only way to be safe is to keep women away from them" (or, "kill all men"/"all men are trash")

"Men wearing dresses is degrading and a sign of weakness" -> "men wearing dresses is cute and funny for...some reason, but it's totally empowering! If he doesn't find it to be, that's not a matter of personal taste, it's 100% toxic masculinity and THAT'S shameworthy, if we're laughing at him THAT'S why, it's not because WE think it's degrading!"

"Man up, don't be a pussy, men don't cry" + "MOC/disabled men/queer men are a danger to white men and especially Their Women" -> "Talking about how maleness and masculinity intersect with oppressed statuses is taking away from and talking over women, we need to focus on women's needs, stop making things about you, you get enough support already, cry more fragile male tears about it"

"Women are too frivolous and impulsive and prone to mindless bandwagoning to deserve agency, from finances to their own bodies" -> "We have to fight the coercive marketing influences in society looking to prey on vulnerable women" - BONUS: you can even avoid reckoning with certain forms of transphobia with this one, just by railing against the evil plastic surgery industry coercing poor, innocent little girls into irreversible things they're sure to regret - just make sure to say "trans women are women and trans men are men" in your next internet post, so people don't get the "wrong" idea! ;)

Some things might take a little more work than just find-and-replace, but with a little practice, they're super easy too:

"Everything women and especially teenage girls like is stupid and frivolous" -> "Everything white/straight girls like is problematic" - now, you can't just say it outright, you have to put in a little work to make the association from case to case, but with just a little creativity, you too can spin hating on pop music and current popular fashions and pumpkin spice into anti-racist praxis!

"Women shouldn't have sex drives, they should put out for their husbands but otherwise be pure and chaste and DEFINITELY not actually seek sex out themselves" - SAY that women's sexual liberation is important (to an extent), but spin every possible example as being harmful somehow. Here are a few good stock examples:

-> Romance novels and fanfiction are too full of tropes that tell men that sexual abuse is okay and teach women that it's what a good boyfriend SHOULD do (look, you get to undermine women's intelligence by implying that they collectively can't tell fantasy from reality, even!)

-> M/M shipping/BL is just for straight women who fetishize gay men (BONUS: you can call any gay man who likes it a self-hating traitor to the community and deny the identities of trans mlm with this one!)

-> Free The Nipple will traumatize children and possibly even normalize child abuse

-> Attraction to anime men is pedophilic because even the ones who are nominally over 18 look too young to actually be (BONUS: you get to imply that Japan is an evil den of pedophiles and/or avoid confronting any biases about POC and apparent age! Racism? Of course not, this is feminism!)

-> Attraction to celebrities is for creepy people with no sense of boundaries, ESPECIALLY if you talk about it

-> And, of course, you can pathologize most cases of sexual forwardness in women, no matter how slight or how willing to accept no for an answer, as a maladaptive trauma response, if you just give it a little thought!

hello! i think you've answered a question like this before so hopefully this is okay to ask. when you reached out to synagogues for the first time, did you tell them you were interested in conversion from the start, or just that you were interested in the congregation and attending services? if the latter, how long did you attend before talking to a rabbi about conversion? i'm interested in attending a synagogue, but i've never been to one before and kind of want to ease into it, and maybe go to a few services/events just to see what the community is like, before discussing conversion. is this normal, or should i tell them i'm interested in conversion/that i'm not jewish right from the start?

So, I personally didn't disclose that information, and in general, I feel it's a conversation best had face-to-face. I felt like it would have put too much pressure on the shul to ask about conversion out the gate, especially if they are unable to help. In my case, my shul was unable to convert me but they provided me with so many resources that it was frankly no disappointment. For that reason, I think it's generally a good idea to tell them that you're interested in services and follow their procedures for welcoming a newcomer. I have, however, always been open about the fact that I am currently converting and serious about this decision, and I believe that's given a good impression that people are willing to work with me (even though I still don't know if I deserve all the help, but that's not the topic!).

It's completely fair to say you've never been to a shul before, and that's also what I said before I came to shul for the first time! It can give people a good idea of what to expect, and how much help you may or may not need. I've personally found that people are incredibly willing to help, especially when they see that you're serious about it.

All of this is to say that you can absolutely mention conversion and your interest in it - I personally have found success in showing up as-is and putting no expectations on myself or my shul friends. I wish you the best of luck🩵🙏🫂

I'll answer these for Kit McCrane because I think they would be the most interesting with these particular questions

✨ - Honestly, I came up with Kit kinda on the spot because I liked how it sounded. And then I made up the surname McCrane because he's a construction worker and it sounded nice with Kit.

🌺 - Kit is dating my OC Terracotta, who is the father of my OCs Basil and Cilantro. Kit doesn't see any issue with herself, a cog, with a toon for a partner, because he feels he has more in common with toons than he does with the cogs at the top of the capitalist hierarchy. The two have only been dating for about three years, and Kit hasn't even met the kids yet. She hopes they'll like him. (Spoiler, they won't </3)

🍀 - Honestly, I'd started to conceptualize Kit a while after I'd already decided on Terracotta having a cog partner, which makes me feel a little bad because it reads like Kit was written to be a love interest and a love interest alone. (She has plenty of connections and relations separate from him, though.) They were written with a lot of traits that mirror Terracotta's.

🌂 - Cartridge, the city I made up in which Kit and Terracotta live (and Basil and Cilantro grew up in), is a bit of a gritty setting, especially compared to Toontown, so I could easily see Kit being the protagonist of some sort of dystopia.

And, just for fun, I'm gonna put the Kit lore I have written down under a cut in case anyone wants additional context for this or wants to learn more about my beloved goober. (Since I don't post much OC lore to tumblr)

This gentle construction worker is known by his peers as someone that gets easily distracted. They're a worrier, who can come up with about a million different ways any given situation can go wrong. She tries not to let this keep her from getting out and doing things, and actually has quite the adventurous side.

If Kit told you they have a criminal record, you'd probably think she was telling a weird unfunny joke. No, he hasn't been to jail or anything, but he's been slapped with fine after fine for the repeated offense of climbing skyscrapers in Cartridge. One might wonder why someone so anxious would do something so dangerous, but for Kit, it's the perfect outlet to calm their nerves. Her loved ones really want them to stop though, especially after seeing what happened when they fell down that one time. (If it weren't for a generous favor from a friend, she'd still be paying off that repair bill.) Honestly, Kit doesn't understand why everyone worries about him so much; he does more than enough of that already.

If he had a "dream job", it would be a costume designer; they're quite passionate about theater. But they're satisfied where they are, content to help her partner Terracotta make clothing as a mere hobby. (Their coat is actually a gift from him!) Kit loves asking his partner to sing for them; his voice is just so beautiful. They're also looking forward to being able to finally meet Terracotta's kids. She doesn't find it strange at all that they chose to date a Toon, after all, she has more in common with them than she does any of the wealthy Cogs of Cartridge. Strangely enough, one rich person, the mayor of Cartridge herself, has taken a liking to Kit; she even bought him and Terracotta live tickets to its favorite game show.

Sometimes, when Kit goes in for maintenance, people notice a strange file on their hard drive. Nobody's been able to decrypt it though, and Kit spends a lot of time worrying about what it is and why it's there.

Armand brain cell anon here. I know he doesn't want to be a leader and that he does support Lestat as Prince in his own way, but I always thought he'd be way better at it. I mean, Lestat kinda sucks? Armand is the only one who calls out his stupidity and impulses while everyone else just sort of smiles and nods (this is why I don't like the PL trilogy overall, too much Lestat worship) Do you think he'd ever get tired of Lestats BS and try to take a leadership position for himself in a few centuries? It's a lot different than leading an evil cult, and tbh I think Lestat just likes the attention and title that comes from being Prince. He doesn't actually want to do anything.

See, I think Armand knew better than to take the job! He's shrewd and calculated enough to know what it takes to be an efficient ruler.

And we actually do get a bit of insight on this during his conversation with Gregory in PL:

"But the survivors, the survivors are what matter now," said Gregory, "and finding a leader. And if you won't be that leader, you, after all your experience ..."

"But you don't want to lead. You know you don't."

Armand had the option to put in his bid if he wanted to. But he's already endured 300 years of being a coven master, and then another 90 years being the de-facto leader of the Theatre des Vampires. I can't imagine he would willingly seek out that kind of responsibility, even in a such more stable capacity--Armand only ever became a leader through force, coercion, and desperation. Never by choice.

In the present day, he devoted himself to making his little nest with Louis and creating safe spaces in the form of coven houses for other vampires. It sounds like Armand's more or less retired now and happy about it.

Now whether or not this is Anne's "Lestat worship" is debatable, but when Armand is standing with Louis and smiling at the end of BC, it is as though he's happy to see Lestat on the throne. I can headcanon it's for a couple reasons (probably more if I think about it later):

"Better you than me, bud."

There's no world in which Armand would want to interact with Marius as Prime Minister. Ever. And prime ministers play a huge role in constitutional monarchies.

I do live for Armand calling out Lestat on his bullshit though, and that's where I indulge myself when it comes to shipping it--because Lestat needs this in his life (but I also know Armand deserves better than having to babysit His Royal Highness).

Edit: you know, I just realized I didn't answer your actual question so I will now, that's my bad (it's been a long week)... No, I don't think that he would, even in a few centuries. Hopefully he'll be taking his long overdue dirtnap by then.

Ok, so I loved your dragon reader/ dragon price fic. The detailed courting rituals got me thinking about how different members of TF 141 react to a s/o who has different courting rituals than them.

The one rolling around in my mind rn is Gaz (which I'm pretty sure is a harpy or bird hybrid of some kind) with a dragon reader.

When you make sure it's not stolen and no owner can be found, (because who'd wear that type of ring in a military base?) you decide to keep it, failing to notice how the way Gaz's pupils get bigger when you put the ring in your pocket.

It is a nice ring, the shine of the gemstone tickling your brain in a pleasant way. The military doesn't allow dragons to have large hoards, most of the items you've gathered over the decades and centuries safely hidden in vaults, but it feels good to have a small hoard in your den.

You expect this to be a one off event. But. No. Every few weeks you find a new thing on your windowsill, from gems to guns to additions to weapons you've expressed you'd like to get. Each new thing leaves you scratching your head, annoyance growing bit by bit as there's never enough scent on the items to track the culprit down and it's not like you can turn the base upside down looking for them (again).

You're unsure how to feel; it's obvious someone is trying to court you, but it definitely can't be Price because no dragon would go about it like this. But you have to admit it's nice to be desired, regardless how odd the method may be.

Then you notice how Gaz has started acting. . . different. He'll ruffle his feathers and flutter his wings more than usual when you two are alone, purposely stretch more often to make your eyes naturally draw to him, sticking to your side as he talks about everything and anything under the sun.

You're also not a fool. You can figure out it's a harpy's way of trying to show off, but without any open hostility you can only assume he's trying to court you. And you let him, you like his presence and the sound of his voice, the way he gives you a lopsided smile and the way his dark feathers shine like onyx gems when the light hits them juuust right and the way he flushes and stutters when your tail wraps around his leg.

Then one late evening when you're doing paperwork you catch sight of something behind your window in the corner of your eye. Like a flash you're opening the window, your clawed hand gripping Gaz's hand before he can scatter.

Gaz's wings spread out wide, a surprised squawk leaving him as he looks into your slitted eyes. "Uh-, I, eh- Hi?" He says, gulping, his newest gift, a very shiny ruby, held in his hand. But what draws your eye are his dark feathers.

You let out an amused snort, "Hello." You purr, leaning in so your faces are close, enjoying the way he flushes from the proximity. "So you're the little thief that's been visiting me."

Gaz's feather puff up to make his silhouette twice as big, his eyes narrowing, a hurt and angry look spreading across his features. "I'm no thief!" He says, insulted that you'd suggest he can't get you gifts on his own. "I-"

"You are," You hum, reaching out your other hand to hold his jaw, and even with his anger he feels his mind croon at how softly you touch him. "You're in the process of stealing my heart."

"Yes," You shrug and pull your hand back to yank one of your scales out of your shoulder, giving it to him as you take the ruby. "Keep this safe for me, yeah?" You hum and then you let him go, going back to your work while he's left dumbstruck, clutching the scale close to his chest.

When it finally settles in his head that you'd just given him a gift, that you'd reciprocated, and given him a shiny gift, oh he's treating that scale like it's the most precious thing in his world. He keeps it close to him, cooing to it in the privacy of his room, keeping it on his pillow so he can fall asleep with your scent in his nose.

He also doubles down on the gifts, but now he's very open about it, to the point you'll have him randomly come into your office to give you something shiny or another weapon, preening so prettily when you praise the thing he's brought back, nuzzling into your neck and fluffing up his feathers.
