Minju shuffled her feet nervously, shooting a pleading glance at her friends as the blaring music and laughter of the Disco Pang Pang ride grew louder. The garish lights of the platform blinked in rhythm with the pounding bass, adding to her growing sense of doom.

“Guys, I don’t know about this,” she mumbled, gripping Chaewon’s arm with white-knuckled intensity. “This thing looks dangerous.”

“It’s not dangerous, just fun!” Chaewon grinned, nudging her toward the queue. Her other hand was casually laced with Wonyoung’s, who chimed in with an airy laugh. “Yeah, unnie, don’t be such a scaredy-cat. You said you’d try new things this year, didn’t you?”

“I meant, like, reading a new book genre or trying a new café, not getting flung around by a lunatic operating a spinning death machine!” Minju shot back, her eyes darting toward the ominously creaking ride.

Yena leaned in close, her face glowing with mischievous energy. “C’mon, you’ll survive. Or... at least your crush on that moderator might distract you.”

Minju’s face flushed crimson. “Ah unnie!”

Meanwhile, a few spots away in the line, Y/N adjusted her cap, eyeing the spinning ride with a mix of excitement and determination. The swirling lights reflected in her eyes as she exhaled slowly, steadying herself for what she knew would be chaos.

“Can’t believe you’re actually doing this,” Yujin teased, folding her arms as she leaned against the railing. “Didn’t you almost fall off last time?”

“Almost,” Y/N shot back, “but this time I’m holding on tighter.”

Yuna smirked, her voice light but teasing. “Tighter? You might not have a choice if they pair you up with someone cute.”

Y/N rolled her eyes but couldn’t stop the smile creeping across her face. “Yeah, yeah. I’m here for the thrills, not the matchmaking, thank you very much.”

The line inched forward, and Minju’s anxiety grew with each step. The mechanical whir of the ride sent chills down her spine. Her friends flanked her, preventing any potential escape. She’d been outvoted, outmaneuvered, and thoroughly peer-pressured into this situation.

“Minju unnie, think of it this way,” Wonyoung said, her tone soothing yet teasing. “If you survive this, you’ll have an amazing story to tell. ‘Remember that time we went to the amusement park, and I conquered my fear of rides?’”

“If I survive,” Minju muttered under her breath, earning another laugh from Yena.

As the line moved forward, Minju and Y/N ended up on opposite sides of the platform. The riders were seated, and the moderator’s booming voice cut through the chatter.

“Alright, folks! You ready for the wildest ride of your lives?” he shouted, eliciting cheers from the crowd. The ride began to spin slowly, building momentum as Minju’s grip on the handlebar tightened.

“Let’s see who’s brave and who’s... not-so-brave. Hey, in the white jacket!” The moderator pointed directly at Minju, who froze mid-panic. Her friends erupted into cheers and laughter, Yena doubling over as Chaewon and Wonyoung clapped.

Minju shook her head frantically, her voice lost in the din of the music.

“Are you single?” the moderator asked, his question amplified over the speakers. The riders erupted into whistles and laughter. Minju’s wide-eyed nod was barely perceptible, but it was enough for him.

“And you, in the cap!” The moderator’s attention shifted to Y/N, whose confident smile faltered under the spotlight. Her friends whooped and hollered as Y/N gave a reluctant thumbs-up.

“Alright then, let’s see some teamwork!” With a dramatic twist of the controls, the moderator sent the ride spinning wildly, tilting the platform so that Minju and Y/N collided briefly. Minju let out a startled yelp, her hands flailing as she tried to steady herself.

“Sorry!” she shouted, her voice barely audible over the music.

“It’s okay!” The younger girl yelled back, gripping the handlebar tighter as they bounced apart again. Their eyes met briefly, a shared look of terror turning into an unexpected laugh.

The moderator wasn’t done with them yet. Another dramatic twist sent Minju sliding perilously close to Y/N, who instinctively reached out to steady her. Their hands collided awkwardly, but it was enough to keep Minju from losing her grip entirely.

“Hold on tight!” Y/N called, her grin wide despite the chaos. Minju nodded, her knuckles white as she clung to the bar for dear life.

Time seemed to blur as the ride spun faster. Minju’s initial panic gave way to laughter as the absurdity of the situation sank in. She caught glimpses of Y/N between the dizzying flashes of lights, her steady grin a strange source of comfort amidst the chaos.

By the time the ride slowed to a stop, both girls were breathless and laughing, their hair a mess and their cheeks flushed. Minju stumbled off the platform, her legs wobbling like jelly. Y/N was right behind her, steadying her with a hand on her shoulder.

“You okay?” Y/N asked, her voice tinged with concern.

“I think so,” Minju replied, glancing up at Y/N with a shy smile. “Thanks for, uh, not letting me fall off.”

“No problem,” The younger girl said, her grin growing. “You were pretty brave for someone who looked ready to bolt earlier.”

Minju’s friends hovered nearby, whispering excitedly. Yena shot her a wink, while Chaewon and Wonyoung exchanged knowing smiles.

“Maybe this wasn’t such a bad idea,” Minju muttered to herself as Y/N held out her phone.

“H-here,” Y/N said, “if you ever feel like risking your life again, maybe we can do it together?”

Minju’s laugh was soft but genuine as she took the girl’s phone and entered her number.

“I don’t usually do this kind of thing,” Minju admitted, handing the phone back.

“Neither do I,” Y/N replied, her grin softening into something warmer. “But sometimes, the best stories come from stepping out of your comfort zone, right?”

As they parted ways, Minju’s friends wasted no time in teasing her.

“Looks like someone’s got a new friend,” Yena sang, wiggling her eyebrows.

“She’s nice,” Minju said, her voice defensive but her smile betraying her. “And she didn’t laugh at me for being scared.”

“We weren’t laughing at you, we were laughing with you,” Chaewon said, earning a playful shove from Minju.

Meanwhile, Y/N rejoined Yuna and Yujin, who were waiting with knowing smirks.

“Well?” Yuna asked. “Did you get her number?”

“I did,” Y/N said, pocketing her phone. “And you two can stop grinning like that.”

“We’re just happy for you,” Yujin said, bumping her best friend’s shoulder lightly. “Now we’ll have to come back here just so you can see her again.”

Y/N rolled her eyes but couldn’t suppress her smile. “Maybe.”

As the evening wore on, the two groups drifted back into the bustling amusement park, but the sparks from the Disco Pang Pang ride lingered. Minju couldn’t help stealing glances at her phone, and Y/N found herself replaying Minju’s laugh in her mind. What started as a chaotic, nerve-wracking ride had turned into the beginning of something new and exciting — a story neither of them would soon forget.
