Every time I see Sam struggling with that busted pipe on a boat he’s grown up on since childhood, all I can imagine is Sam with his head dramatically snapped back and a hand to his forehead, sighing aloud, “Oh if only there was a big strong man here to help me with this pipe. How ever can I fix it alone?”

Is he watching that pipe or that ass?

Gentle reminder that your fic isn’t awful or completely unappreciated because it didn’t get the attention you hoped for. You probably touched at least one person through your ideas.

It’s a large fandom and things are easily overlooked. Ppl back out on fics for all kinds of tiny reasons - I’ve heard it all from a specific word used to tagging to song lyrics to font. Folx forget to kudos or comment. You could be new to a fandom that’s already very wary of fic content so ppl only read trusted authors. There are a million reasons outside of quality/content that your fic doesn’t feel like a hit.

I’ve had fics hit 700+ kudos and others get like 20. It happens sometimes!

Remember:

1. Your unique voice is always worth exploring.

2. You can only get better through practice.

3. Did you have fun writing it? Did it satisfy an emotional need in you to create this work? Great.

4. You don’t owe anyone good, well written, or trendy fic. Write what you care about. Push yourself to grow when you feel like it.

5. Maybe you got 5 kudos instead of 500; 5 people loved what you put down.

It’s so funny how different my experience as a fic reader and a fic writer are. Like…

When I post a fic, I always worry that more kudos = a good fic and fewer kudos = a bad fic.

But as a reader I’ve never once associated a ton of kudos with the quality of a fic because I’ve definitely read fics with 20K kudos that I noped out on and bookmarked a fic with 38 kudos that I read all the time. What I like to read is independent of hits and kudos and views.

I wish I could get my reader brain to show some of that practicality to my writer brain lol
