Democratic National Convention Fourth Night: Kamala Harris’ Speech Finishes Week; Lineup Also Includes Gretchen Whitmer, Adam Kinzinger

Kamala Harris will deliver the finale at the Democratic National Convention this evening, accepting the party’s nomination after a whirlwind four weeks.

Other speakers will include Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA), Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), as well as Rep. Lucy McBath (D-GA), former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ) and gun violence advocates and survivors. Former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger also is in the lineip. Also expected are musical performers including Pink.

The NFL preseason is underway as of August 24, 2024, with a number of significant changes and actions occurring throughout the league

Preseason Play and Player Performance: With several starters expected to play in the final preseason games, teams are getting ready. For example, Trevor Lawrence, the quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is anticipated to play one or two quarters in their preseason game against the Miami Dolphins. In the meanwhile, Jordan Love will play in the Green Bay Packers' last preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks alongside the starters, according to head coach Matt LaFleur's confirmation (NFL.com PFF).

Moves and Injuries on the Roster: Teams are still making roster cuts as they get ready to finalize their 53-man rosters. Among the notable transactions is the addition of defensive back Isaiah 

Simmons from the Arizona Cardinals in return for a draft pick in the seventh round. Cornerback Prince Amukamara, who signed a one-day deal to retire with the Giants, also announced his retirement (NFL.com NFL.com).

Penei Sewell, the All-Pro lineman for the Detroit Lions, suffered a minor ankle injury, adding to the concern about injuries. However, it is unlikely to affect his availability for Week 1. Conversely, Allen Lazard, a wide receiver for the New York Jets, sprained his AC joint, although he should be ready for the season's first game (NFL.com PFF).

Teams are making last-minute tweaks as the preseason comes to an end, and fans are excited for the start of the regular season. Watch for updates as the final roster reductions and last-minute-minute trades could significantly impact the start of the 2024 NFL season.
