The Final Four are ready!

The first matchup features Lady Dimitrescu (Resident Evil Village), who easily stepped on Elias Ainsworth (The Ancient Magus Bride), uwu. Her opponent will be The Princess (Slay the Princess), who stabbed the Amphibian Man (The Shape of Water) with a pristine blade.
In the second matchup is Wayne (Scarlet Hollow), who savagely mastered Master of the Bazaar Mr Pages (Fallen London, Mask of the Rose). He is up against The Beast AKA Prince Adam (Beauty and the Beast), who toppled a titan of Tumblr sexymen, Sans (Undertale), in a truly shocking upset.

i've started a little series of weekly posts documenting every MoC i made (digitally) over the last few years:
Week 6: the first half of 2020 (and a bonus)
some Cyberpunk-y stuff, more youtubers, revisiting that robot dog, a really cool movie, some contest and some of my first digital MoCs rendered
i made these hover-vehicles IRL building with my little Sister and her LEGO. I don't like LEGO friends because i hate how minidolls look like polly pockets, but i think the more patel colours of those sets are really pleasant
"der Weltall. UnENTliche weiten..."
there's a german Youtuber called "Coldmirror". she was one of the first youtubers in germany and she made some pretty funny animations, including StarStarSpace, a kind of parody of Star Trek, Star Wars and some other sci-fi stuff.
Adam Savage made a Rickshaw to be pulled by boston dynamics' Spot. I saw that build, remembered the minifigure scale Spot i built in the year before and added his rickshaw. i made two versions. the simpler one i made after seeing the teaser on twitter and the more complex one i made after watching the build-video.
i posted the simpler version on reddit, which got the attention of Adam savage's team and later of adam savage. they contacted me and i mailed them the instructions of the simpler version, felt bad for the inaccuracies of the build, built the more complex version and also mailed them its instructions.
Adam later build the simpler version on a stream that i sadly missed, but i was really happy that a maker i admire liked my MoC.
Fanart for TomSka and Friends' CONTENT table. i still kinda like it, even though i thought it would be hilarious to make their legs skin-coloured.
this was actually featured in the "trial by trolley" video they made in feburary 2020.
Newelementary did a contest featuring the then new Green Lantern Part from the first series the DC collectible minifigures.
i built these two ships with the part as engine details, the W45-P Stinger and the 0G-L13 Leapfrog. i submitted them both and for some reason the people from Newelementary switched up the names of the works.
anyway, i did not win.
just a digital version of the Old Factory i posted back in week 2.
i tried imitating some more logo-like stuff.
i don't think arstotzkan Flag turned out really good, but i really like the way the Blood Machines Title looks.
speaking of Blood Machines, i had recently watched this really cool movie and had to make some sort of MoC inspired by the really cool ship designs found in that movie. i first tried to make something more Minifigure scale, got overwhelmed, and just made the mIcro scale
the Star Wars Helmet series also started that year. i rebuild the Boba Fett helemt and modified it it to represent Jango Fett and the Mandalorians found in the Mandalorian battle pack that also came out that year.
i don't really remember why, but i tried remaking set 7310 Mono-jet from Life on Mars as a more modern set. i made a colour-accurate version and a version that actually can be built IRL.
i had the fun idea to remake some Lego city-style Vehicles as cyberpunk-y hovercars. i tried making some different styles of 0-G-generators/repulsor lifts to make the vehicles feel like they've been built by different manufacturers.
also, Stud.io had a weird bug/feature where you had a coloured gradiend as a background if you put a part on the ground that is out of frame and have the rest of the build "hover" over the ground.
another Contest, this time for Lego Ideas. they had a Star Wars x Christmas thing, so i had the (kind of uncreative) idea to make a gingerbread TIE fighter, based off the Imperial TIE fighter set from 2018 and the little polybag from the same year.
this also did not win.
Bonus: some of my first digital MoCs i made.
i found them again.
the Dalek Emperor from NewWho. this was basically the first MoC i ever made on a PC, back when LDD still worked on my laptop.
i had to tweak the colours a lot when i rendered this one, because the way they were represented in LDD was very different to the way they look in stud.io or even real life.
i struggled quite a bit with redoing this one in stud.io because it handles flexible a lot different than LDD. that is also one of the reasons why i never finished this MoC.
i think i'll have to split this year again, but hopefully only in two parts. i dislike that 30 image limit for tumblr Posts.
first week last week next week

I decided to paint Adam Savage because he's been a huge inspiration to me since I started watching Mythbusters in 2005! when people ask me what I want to be when I grow up, I say "whatever it is that Adam Savage is doing" :> I hope I did him justice!!
#art by cas asa#mythbusters#adam savage#illustration#fanart#fan art#I really just want to thank him for being such a massive influence on my life#like I definitely wouldn't be who I am today without mythbusters#it sounds kind of silly but its true I never would have been so interested in science and history and math#growing up on mythbusters was chicken soup for my curious soul and I've been striving to be just as curious as adam savage is ever since

Anyhow, I have to wonder why they changed Ap’lek’s mask from the concept art. The concept design was perfectly serviceable, and it couldn’t have been an issue to make in real life, given Adam Savage was able to do just that!
Hell, the Visual Dictionary even describes Ap’lek’s mask as having a ‘rictus’ AKA grin/grimace; Which, that really doesn’t seem to describe his canon mask and its lack of mouth, but you know what it does match? His concept mask. So it seems that even his lore was written with Ap’lek’s original appearance in mind, and then there was that inexplicable change, and/or the writer hadn’t been aware of it. Did somebody misremember Ap’lek’s mask when making the costume, and/or didn’t look close enough at their reference?
Particularly, there was already plenty of fanart depicting Ap’lek with his concept look, so it really seems like an unnecessary change that only accomplished making a lot of fanart outdated, and fans disoriented. Even Trudgen’s mask was changed very little, and besides; Compared to the other Knights whom Ap’lek shared his concept art with -Vicrul, Cardo, Kuruk, Ushar- they remain faithful in their final adaptations, and their pre-TROS fanart remains unchallenged. And the worst part of this change for me, personally, is that I prefer the concept look!

THE KING. All hail Max Rebo. One of my top 5 favorite Star Wars characters of all time, ever since I was a kid. He's just the best. An adorable, space elephant musician. Why YES. He plays with his LEGS. He has no arms. He sits on a cushion to play the Red Ball Jet Organ with his feet! Max Rebo is an Ortolan, which come from an ice planet. Perhaps that's why he's blue and has penguin fins? I highly believe they are fins, not ears. Just look at the original maquette and concept art and you can totally see it. He has a long snout to eat with. Click here to watch a video about Adam Savage getting a replica of Phil Tippet's original sculpture of Rebo. <3 He will guest appear in Chapter 7 of my fanfiction, "Figment". He works with Cad Bane (unknowingly) to catch the Brass Killer, Bane's latest bounty. Rebo is really young here and just starting his music career. :D --------------- xInAmberCladx's Fanart Archive

Fanart storage options
Decided I’ll try cross-posting some thinky posts from DW to tumblr at times.
Since the dread news about LJ, I've been fretting more about where to host all my fanart. They're on LJ scrapbook now, which is an okay interface and pretty easy to use, but who knows what they'll do to it next?
Ordinary photo-sharing sites are no good as the file size is too low, they aim at making your art readily trawled by all (not always what I want) and I also worry that if I opt into a cute new site it'll go belly-up after I've gone through the hassle of moving everything.
What I want in an art storage site is ...
Free - even if I upgrade my experience for now, say to have the interface ad-free, if I can't afford a fee in future I still want all the links to work indefinitely (ha, hubris. Well, until the zombie apocalypse, anyway).
Easy to get a direct link for embedding in AO3 or DW etc. And it needs to provide a 'clean' direct link without a heap of site-GUI-crap and/or ads all around the edges, like tinypic and photobucket do. This is as I often post a smaller version of a pic and link to the full-size version, and I almost always do a link anyway even for smaller pics - this is for pads and mobiles, as otherwise the pic won't display fully.
I don't create many ginormous files, but for the few I do, the site needs to be OK with that.
Lots of free storage so I don't run out.
Easy to organise my art - easy to make folders, name and rename them. Photobucket also allows on-site artworks to be named, which is nice, but it's not crucial to me as I only use the site for storage so as to embed works elsewhere.
Ideally I need a site that doesn't care if I store some explicit images. I don't worry about that too much though, as mine are rarely super-explicit, and I figure I'll find another solution for the tiny few that are if LJ goes bust. Meanwhile I'll leave those ones on LJ.
I commented about this here and there recently and I thought for a while that Photobucket was going to be okay. But the links that I figured would give a clean direct link with no GUI-crap turned out not to do so, so that's a bust.
In the end, and partly because of this discussion from
Adam Savage's Tested, I'm going with Mediafire
It does all the above and focuses on storage so people aren't as likely to trawl through the site's images and accidentally hit my porny one of Remus and Sirius barebacking :) It's not hard to get a direct link to paste in for immediate display and also to link to - you do have to click on the thumbnail to call up the actual image, then R-click on it to get "copy image url", but that's no more work than with LJ.
Notes:
the top choice from the Adam Savage site above was actually Minus - but the article dates from 2012 and Minus doesn't seem to exist any more (cautionary tale there). Mediafire, on the other hand, has been around for ages.
another good thing about Mediafire is that the link doesn't alter if you reorganise and move the art to another folder later on (I tested this). So no need to edit the AO3 or DW post. This is a big plus over LJ, where it would break the link.
So that's where I'm at with this. I haven't actually moved many pics across so if anyone out there knows anything better, or sees flaws in this cunning plan, please set me straight!
