i can’t stop staring at the third panel in this edit - the way “i will be your eyes” is laid over the blindfold ... that’s genius right there! i love the way the first and fourth panel are composed where the image itself looks like it’s framed, with this almost painting-like effect to it! and then the contrast of the second and third panels being black and white? chef’s kiss.

alie, i have no idea how i missed this edit the first time you posted it! the minute i saw this i immediately knew it was an edit by you, just because of your distinct style. i’m obsessed with the way the text blurs, the corresponding gifs, it just fits so nicely 🤍

i still haven’t read the magnolia sword but this edit just bumped it up my list! i love the gradients used in this - the pink and the yellow remind me of spring and of flowers, and i just love the floral overlays that were used here. also, the way the text is placed along the branches in the third panel is stunning!

Naina was born in Half Moon Bay and so basically being an only child, she always felt very lonely and very Matilda-like since she was always someone who preferred the company of books over people. When your muse arrived on the scene, she found herself drawn to him because he was very different from who she was and yet he was always nice to her. I imagine their friendship developing first at an early age. As they got older, of course they both had other friends but were always very possessive over each other and I’m sure it put off significant others in their individual lives. At some point, I imagine one or both of them developing feelings for other and of course I imagine him to have left the small town, but we can plot that out of course and maybe say they had a falling out which caused them not to be in touch anymore? How he landed up again in Half Moon Bay is all up to you, but (unless they had a falling out) she’s very excited to have someone familiar around again.

The Illustrious grew up in Seattle Washington in a well-off, middle class family. They were the beloved of their class, and grew up in a left-leaning household with their two parents and twin sister, Esther. Of the twins, The Illustrious was most certainly the leader. Not to say Esther grew up completely in his shadow, but he was definitely the more outgoing. He had tons of friends through sports and general leadership positions. He was elected Prom King, got into a good university, and participated in more than a few clubs and communities during his secondary and post-secondary years.

The Illustrious entered the world of politics because they knew they wanted to make a change in the world. Maybe they’ve still got rose-coloured glasses on. Maybe they’ve taken them off. Maybe they’re chasing that popularity high from their teenage years just a little bit. Regardless, they’ve built a name for themselves, and they’re proud of what they stand for. The Illustrious is dedicated to keeping their chin high and their standards higher. They’re dedicated to their job in politics, and believe that the best way to see change is to make it happen themselves.

CONNECTIONS

Esther Danvers (nee. Spellman): The Illustrious’ younger twin. Maybe that’s partially why The Illustrious took on more of an older brother role - simply because he was, but their relationship is further than fractured now. Maybe it started when Esther left for Cornell and put as much distance in between them as she could, but it’s gotten worse since Esther picked up her job at Fox News and he went into politics on the Democratic side. He thinks she’s betrayed the ideals they both used to stand for and that she’s married to a man he’s certain she doesn’t love. The fact that she’s willing to bash The Illustrious on live TV doesn’t make it any easier.

Charlie Keeting & Adam Connelly: Fellow representatives in the house. Depending on The Illustrious’ position within the Democratic Party, they could be friends, frenemies or enemies with either of these characters. Charlie is a Democratic Socialist and Adam is a Moderate Republican.
