pairing stats - adam du mortain x detective regina bishop from the wayhaven chronicles (by @seraphinitegames)
i was inspired by this ask and wanted to show side-by-side stats of my detectives with their RO. as you can probably tell from some of the overlapping stats, that these two butt heads a lot.
[Nate x Cassie] [Mason x Ria] [Mason x Brooklyn] [Felix x Harley] [LT x Lyra]
the gorgeous art of adam du mortain was commissioned from @commander-sarahs-art and the beautiful art of my detective was commissioned from @kimchi-toast. please commission them if you can, they were amazing to work with!

Note
hi, if you’re still taking angst prompts, how about 4. “Get out of here! Just leave!” for whichever of your twc pairings inspires you?
thank you ginger for this one! (and for suggesting adina.) this one definitely got away from me and turned into a full fic because of the scenario I wanted to write xD.
author’s note: thank you for the request, @gingerbreton! writing in present tense was definitely weird, but hopefully the vibe i was going for still works. i was definitely feeling the angst in this one – an AU (to my AU i guess) where my detective turns but their immortal spouse dies protecting them. grab some tissues, turn off that sad music, and enjoy! copyright: all characters, except the oc detective, are owned by mishka jenkins @seraphinitegames. series/pairing: the wayhaven chronicles – adam du mortain x f!detective (regina bishop) rating/warnings: 16+; major character death, grief, descriptions of physical pain and violence/fighting based on/prompt: OTP angst prompts // 4. “Get out of here! Just leave!” (in bold) and inspired partly by “dancing with your ghost” by sasha sloan word count: ~2.3k summary: an all-or-nothing stand-off between the agency against the rogues and trappers threatens regina’s turning process.
forever is just a word
it burns.
every fiber and tendon in her body overflows with hissing lava.
melting the pathways as it flows through her veins and igniting everything it touches.
veins attempting to fuse her mutated blood with searing venom.
a scream rips from her throat and reverberates against the walls.
at least, regina thinks it’s her pain echoing around her.
she can’t tell over the thundering in her eardrums and the sound of seams ripping inside her body.
everything is a foggy haze except for the tears streaming down her cheeks.
her mind wonders if she realizes she is being torn apart and burned alive.
except her skin is icy to the touch.
not that anyone is around to know that.
the fire continues to roil and spread, inching up and across her body until it molds around her heart.
and pierces it.
her fingers fly to her chest to dig her nails into the center, breaking skin and leaving red-stained crescent moons dotted below her collarbone.
and then the cold creeps in, following the path burned before it and pricking her body with thousands of icy needles.
stitching the seams and tears slowly and painfully back together.
before the pain finally recedes and all that is left is silence.
and regina opens her eyes.
the fluorescent lighting burns white-hot.
the slow beeping of a computer is shrieking in her ears.
she’s alive.
meanwhile, in the thick of the forest near the facility
adam stands at attention, hands clasped behind his back, surveying the situation with a scrutinizing eye.
ever the soldier.
except his eyes are shaking with fear, dark pupils almost edging out the green.
he knows this could be it.
their last stand.
his gaze sweeps to his right and then to his left, shoulders tensing as he counts, assesses, and runs through the odds and tactics in his head.
“just hand the detective over and no one has to get hurt,” a sinister voice rings loudly across the clearing from deep within the mass of humans and rogue supernaturals.
traitors. in every sense, philosophical and physical.
outnumbering every unit, tactical agent, and combat-ready member – supernatural or not – that the agency could pull together at the last minute.
“we know you’ve turned her. this is your last warning. hand her over, now.”
the air hums and prickles with electricity from hundreds of charged prods and batons, as the rogue supernaturals ease into their offensive stances.
a few find their way into the air and into the trees.
adam bristles but feels similar sensations vibrating in the air from his team and unit alpha on either side of him. at least he’s not alone.
he frowns briefly at the thought that regina may wake up alone, when (and he refuses to think otherwise) she survives.
“what’s going on? adam?”
he whirls around so fast he’s sure lesedi and nate heard the air around him crack. he runs over and wraps his arm around her waist to hold her steady, and she briefly closes her eyes to ease the dizziness and sudden sensitivity to everything around her.
“you survived,” he breathes, relief evident in his voice and every line in his face.
she smiles and tiptoes to kiss him softly before pulling back. “i promised i’d come back to you.”
adam brings her into his chest and buries his face in her neck, closing his eyes and trying to fill his heart with memories of her heartbeat, scent, and body against his.
“you must go,” he says hoarsely before pulling away. “this is going to be a fight unlike anything any of us have ever seen. you have to be safe.”
regina steps back and surveys the clearing, eyes widening at the stand-off. she knows everyone can see her. every eye, every weapon, every formation, is trained on and directed at her.
her gaze meets farah’s teary-eyed and relieved one, morgan’s piercing and confident one, and nate’s sympathetic and fearful one to her left before her body tenses at the determined and soft looks from unit alpha to her right.
“this is insane. we’re incredibly outnumbered, let me help,” she says once her voice seems to return to her. “adam, i’m not human anymore.”
he pulls back to meet her gaze and her breath catches at the soft green of his eyes. “you have only just turned. it is too dangerous and i will not risk losing you.”
“i’m not leaving you. i’m not leaving the team,” she argues, the intensity in her voice matching the defiant look in her eyes. “you know i can fight.”
he takes a few steps away and begins to pace, fists clenched. he knows that at any moment the rogues can attack now that regina is exposed. his muscles bulge with tension and she briefly wonders at how his shirt is still intact. adam can feel the fear clawing up his spine, across his chest, and catching in his throat before he whirls around to face her.
“you do not understand how dangerous this is. get out of here! just leave!”
he moves in real-time until he is just a hair’s breadth away, canines protruding and eyes flashing angrily. regina blinks, a little jolted by the fact that his speed is no longer too fast for her to see. he grabs her arms and starts pushing her back toward the facility.
“it will all be for nothing if they get to you!”
regina almost recoils at the volume of his voice and the tormented fear in his eyes. she twists out of his grasp and grabs his wrists, pushing them down and away from her body.
“i can’t lose you,” she yells back.
he breaks – she can see it – his eyes fold and brows scrunch in anguish and fear.
she reaches out to touch his cheek. he leans into the warmth of her touch, eyes fluttering half-closed before he pulls away.
“farah,” he says, pulling away from her touch. regina looks over and sees elidor following close behind.
“don’t do this adam. don’t leave me,” she pleads, voice cracking and tears welling in her eyes.
“i will always fight my way back to you, my love,” he murmurs, leaning down to briefly press his lips to hers. she leans in to deepen the kiss, but he’s already pulling away. “be safe. please.”
gentle hands on her arms hold her back and her eyes widen in fear. elidor wraps his arms tightly around her, holding her firmly against his chest and no amount of thrashing or kicking can loosen his hold.
“no, i can fight. i’m a vampire now, too. let me go! let me help,” her cries are desperate and loud and adam can hear every word echo in his ears.
“i am sorry, detective. it’s too dangerous, even for newly turned vampires. you don’t have control over your physical abilities yet and that makes you an easy target,” elidor says, half-dragging, half-carrying her back toward the facility with farah following closely.
“farah, please, don’t do this. you know that i need to be out there with you all,” regina begs as adam’s retreating back gets smaller.
“this is beyond you, babe. none of us want to lose you. please trust us,” farah murmurs, gently stroking regina’s cheek with her thumb.
the two vampires hold each other’s gaze, an entire conversation silently passing between them, before farah gives her a brief nod and runs back to join the team.
regina’s knees buckle and elidor lets her fall to the ground, arms still wrapped around her shoulders. she can’t shake the feeling in her gut that everything is about to go sideways.
with loud growls and roars from every direction, the rogues attack first in a wave of shimmery magic and blurring movements. grunts and shouts from the agents fill the air, but it’s clear the agency is not nearly as prepared. commanding agents across units are shouting conflicting orders to their teams and the trappers make quick work of separating agents from each other in a second wave.
even in the frenzied mess of bodies, her vampire sight zeroes in on adam, fighting back-to-back with farah against a dozen trappers. nate and morgan are barely holding their own against a horde of demons and their prod-wielding handlers. electricity thrums in the air, snapping erratically at both sides.
with every group that falls, three more seem to step into their place. regina pales as she realizes that the rogues outmatch them in every way. they move in quick, synchronized waves and aren’t holding back. her loved ones are vulnerable and the fight is quickly converting the peaceful clearing in which she spent many moments with unit bravo into a bloody battlefield.
but then she sees unit alpha and agent fuller move with ungodly speed and with a series of quick, coordinated attacks, lay waste to an entire wave of trappers and rogues. they move to aid unit bravo, easily slotting into formation as though the units always fight side-by-side.
but their opponents still outnumber them.
and the world slows to a painful crawl.
supernatural creatures of all sizes begin to corner each agent and cut them off from each other. regina holds her breath as she watches tamiko and maaka get carried away by a winged creature, tane and lesedi chasing and leaping quickly after them while fending off half a dozen trappers.
she’s lost sight of agent fuller. which means unit bravo is alone again.
a pack of werewolves growl and snap at the vampires and her stomach lurches as adam positions himself in front of his team, angling his body so he’s directly in front of farah. the wolves shift and draw themselves to their full height, easily towering over nate and morgan.
and then they attack. she can barely tell apart the team’s growls from the pack’s, the wolves outnumbering the vampires five-to-one. and given that sunlight is still filtering through the trees, she can tell they’re not healing fast enough to keep up with the barrage of teeth biting everywhere. she keeps scanning the mass of bodies while holding her breath, trying to keep tabs on the team – and then she freezes.
a group of wolves advance on farah as she steps backwards towards where nate and morgan are fending off their own group until the three of them are surrounded. and despite the worry clawing in her throat for their safety, her eyes are frantically searching for the person she gave up everything for.
he’s fighting his way through a stream of fallen bodies towards his team. blood and scorch marks mar his pale skin, and his steps are heavy as his boots crunch through flesh and fur and bone.
a scream rips its way out of her throat at the sight of supernaturals advancing towards him, accompanied by a half-dozen trappers with electric prods crackling in his direction.
“adam, behind you!”
and then she’s running – not even registering that she broke out of elidor’s grasp – and the world blurs around her as she speeds along.
fire rips through her body, but this time, the pain spurs her forward and her vision tunnels, centering around adam’s fallen form.
rage and fear intertwine in her chest and expand outward into her limbs and an unfamiliar, feral cry leaves her throat as she shoves her body through the blockade, grabbing anyone attempting to stop her and tossing their bodies aside. she screams at the electric prods digging into her stomach as arms wrap around her limbs, but she bites down with her canines until the blood-curdling screams filling the air are not her own.
she tears the flesh of her assailants apart and they fall back, howling in pain and running in fear, their weapons dropping to the ground. her own body is a blur as she attacks each of the remaining trappers, pulling their arms out of their sockets and shoving them back deep into the forest, the resulting sound of wood splintering already fading in her mind.
the remaining trappers panic and abandon their attack, tripping over strewn bodies as the rest of the units push the rogues back as well. nate and morgan are sitting on the ground, breathing heavily as their bodies begin to heal but farah is limping towards her.
regina doesn’t notice. the adrenaline is already receding, and she collapses to the ground, the smell of blood and sweat filling her nose and leaving a metallic taste in her mouth. she crawls over to adam’s still body, tears streaming down her face as she realizes he’s not breathing.
“no, no, no, no, no!”
she throws herself over his body and lays her ear to his chest and fingers against his wrist, breaking down into hysterical sobs when she can’t hear anything. and she knows she should be able to – she can still hear the damn chirping of birds in the distance and the anxious thrum of the team’s heartbeats.
“no, you gave me your word. please,” regina screams in-between sobs, pulling adam into her lap and cradling his head against her chest. “you said you’d come back to me.”
a pair of arms wrap around her waist and hold her as she cries, murmuring things she can’t register into her hair. she barely registers nate and morgan lifting adam’s lifeless body, forcing her to stand and walk alongside him. her grip around adam’s shoulders only tightens and she pulls away from farah’s attempt to hold her up.
she doesn’t see the three of them exchange sorrowful looks before they move slowly towards the facility. tears continue to stream down regina’s face onto the hand that is clutching adam’s shirt as though it might make him wake up and reprimand her for ruining another one.
“you promised me forever,” she whispers, the rest of her sobs strangling in her throat.

Jen, my soul requires physical affection prompt #14 play wrestling, Adam and baby du Mortains (or!!! whoever you want!!! this is just the thought that popped in my head) ❤️ (-@wayhavenots)
thank you for requesting this one! It’s a little cute baby du mortain fluff but I couldn’t help but get a little angsty at the end. I haven’t written Adina in a while, so thank you!
author’s note: thank you for the request @wayhavenots. this takes place in the same universe as cottage by the sea and bucket list. it does have a bittersweet ending, so you have been warned and i hope you enjoy! copyright: all characters, except my oc detective, are owned by mishka jenkins @seraphinitegames. series/pairing: the wayhaven chronicles – adam du mortain x f!detective (regina bishop) rating/warnings: 14+; fluff and angst based on/prompt: physical affection prompts // 14. play wrestling word count: ~900 summary: adam reminisces on the times he used to play wrestle with his children.
“papa, i got you!”
regina looked up from where she was playing with philip on the porch to see jacques latching himself on to adam’s leg, his five-year-old sister mimicking the motion on adam’s other leg.
adam smiled and gave her a wink before pretending to stumble backward until he was laying on his back. the children climbed on top of him, doing their best to “pin” his arms down.
“yes, you ‘got’ me. when did you get so strong?”
cecilia grinned, a large gap showing where her two front teeth should be. “me too, papa?”
“yes, you too, my darling,” adam said, curling his arm around her. she squealed and kicked her feet, trying to break out of adam’s grip.
jacques scrambled to sit on top of his father’s abdomen, raising his arms to flex. regina chuckled, knowing full well no one could ever hope to match adam’s strength.
“i’m going to be big and strong like you when i grow up, papa!”
adam chuckled. “but don’t grow up too fast, my son.”
he knew moments like this were fleeting, not just as a parent but because of his nature. he glanced over at regina, currently rocking philip to sleep in her arms as she paced the length of the porch. he knew, with a heaviness in his heart that in the blink of an eye, his entire world would disappear from the earth.
and there was nothing he could do about it.
even if he kept his eyes open for eternity.
instead, he turned back to his children, determined to focus on what he could do. which was to fill his heart with as many memories and happy moments as possible. and hope that when the time came, it would be enough to keep him warm.
many, many decades later
adam smiled up at his great-great grandchild, who was sitting on his chest and holding his face between their tiny hands.
he took note of how the mid-afternoon sun seemed to hit the golden highlights of their sandy-brown hair, softening the bright blue of their eyes that reminded him of his wife’s.
“pappy, will i be as big as you when i grow up?”
“if you work hard, jackie, you can be whatever you want to be,” he said, chuckling inwardly at the feeling of déjà vu.
over a lifetime ago he said something similar to a child once. if his memory served him right, it was at the wayhaven police station; the pathologist’s child. regina had found it hilarious at the time but later admitted she thought it was adorable.
“do you have to go already, pappy?” jackie pleaded as adam carefully stood up, giving them a tender kiss on the forehead before handing them to their parents.
“yes, i have to go see your great-nana. but i’ll come visit next week, alright?”
“okay, i love you pappy!”
adam paused at the gate to look back at his children (because no matter how many generations passed, they were all his children) waving at him. he gave a small wave back, trying not to dwell on how his heart felt both full and heavy as he made his way over to the cemetery on the other side of town, picking up a small bouquet of regina’s favorite flowers on the way.
each step he took on the cobblestone walkway was a slow and deliberate exercise in leaving his grief, however temporary, at the gate. he didn’t want to be overcome with sadness when he visited with her, because she deserved to know how many lives she touched and how much good her own life did, even generations later.
with every step forward he tried to think back only on the most joyful moments from the life they shared. and stories that would make her smile and laugh, even if it was at his expense.
he visualized the wall around his heart falling away, piece by piece, as he got closer to her grave until he felt completely exposed. he wanted to lay himself bare before her – a penance, perhaps, for holding so much back from her while they were together.
even at his best and most honest, he had still hidden away some of his most prominent fears – perhaps, because they all revolved around her. he also never mustered the courage to tell her how much he wanted to take back his word that he would respect her decision.
because he wanted her to stay.
to turn.
to choose forever in the truest sense of the word.
“you should’ve seen them,” he murmured, eyes shining with pride but glimmering with tears. “they’re so big now and curious. stubbornly so, like you.”
he knelt down on one knee to brush away the dirt on the inscription and clear away the weeds, frowning as he realized it had been a while since he last visited.
“i wish you were here, my love. i miss you.”
he placed the bouquet in front of her headstone, removing the withered one from his last visit before standing back up.
he had long since stopped promising to visit again soon, having broken those promises many times over when it was too difficult for him to face that she was gone forever.
at least while he was busy with work, he could distract himself and let the time pass him by. but he was trying to visit with his children more often, and there were some parts of his reality he couldn’t ignore anymore. so he needed to find a different way to cope.
as he walked out of the cemetery, he let the wall around his heart rebuild itself, brick by brick. hopefully, the wall would last until next time.

sparring partner - adam du mortain x f!detective (twc)
Tumblr media
author’s note: thank you for the request, @crackerdumortain and @kelseaaa for the brainstorm!! sorry this took foreverrrr. also, this was supposed to be mostly smut but as always, i got carried away with the leadup. this is my first time writing smut for these two so…forgive any weirdness. hope you all enjoy!
copyright: all characters, except my oc detective, are owned by mishka jenkins @seraphinitegames. series/pairing: the wayhaven chronicles – adam du mortain x f!detective (regina bishop) rating/warnings: 18+; explicit smut; ns*w noted between the 🔥⚡ and ❄💧 icons (minors dni) based on/prompt: nsfw prompts // 9. for sparring to turn into sex word count: 1.7k summary: adam and regina spar for a bit before things get hot (deep romance).
sparring partner
regina let out a string of curses and loud grunts as she continued a series of jabs and practiced footwork against one of the punching bags in the training room. even with carefully wrapped hands and protective gloves, she knew she was being a little reckless with her punches, letting her frustration and anger from a week of failed missions and a patronizing mother fuel her movements.
she was so consumed with channeling her emotions into the punching bag that she failed to notice adam slip into the room and wrap his wrists. nor did she notice how his gaze followed her movements, eyeing how her chest heaved against the confines of her sports bra, sweat dripping down her toned stomach and disappearing underneath the band of her very tight workout shorts.
his eyes snapped up when regina let out a loud cry, spinning and landing a kick into the side of the bag, sending it swinging parallel to the ground. even he was impressed, given the weight of the bag and her being human.
“i don’t think the bag is an adequate sparring partner,” he teased, walking over to her.
regina whirled around, the last of her anger leaving her in a breathy laugh. she put her hands on her hips and raised an eyebrow in a way that was meant to challenge him. “oh? i guess i should see if morgan will spar with me then.”
adam’s smirk turned into an annoyed frown as he peeled off his shirt and widened his stance. he couldn’t help but glance over her body, the sweat glistening on her chest and stomach, the scent of it growing in his nose as she stepped closer to him.
regina knew she hit a sore spot and chuckled quietly to herself before shifting into an offensive stance, tossing her gloves on the floor. she moved first, attempting to land a blow to his stomach, then his side, before aiming for his unprotected chin. a normal opponent – and by normal, she meant human – wouldn’t have been able to dodge all those blows, but of course, adam was able to block and sidestep each of her moves before she could blink.
he stayed mostly on the defensive, catching and releasing her sidekicks and uppercuts before stepping away, matching her blow for block with ease. it could almost be seen as a synchronized dance, if she wasn’t actually trying to land a blow and starting to get frustrated. her fatigue was showing, and it didn’t take long before adam had her in a loose headlock, holding her shoulders firmly against his chest with one arm, while the other pinned her left arm against his side, hand hovering over her stomach.
she tilted her back against his shoulder so she could look at him, lowering her right hand to rest on his. regina pressed his hand against her stomach and nudged it down until adam’s splayed fingers reached the elastic band of her shorts. as she predicted, he froze and loosened his grip on her shoulders. regina tucked her foot between his legs, positioning her knee behind his and curling her foot around his ankle. she yanked her leg forward and swiveled out of his grip, pushing back against his chest.
he still had a hand on her hip as he fell backward, bringing her down with him and holding her against his body so that she’d land on top of him instead of awkwardly on the floor.
“you have improved significantly,” adam noted as he looked up at her, no small amount of pride in his voice and face.
regina couldn’t help but preen a little as she straddled him and sat up. “really?” she asked, letting out a breathy laugh.
“for a human,” he corrected cheekily, his dimples deepening as his smirk grew.
“when will you just admit that i got the best of you?” regina panted, her chest heaving noticeably even through her sports bra. she pinned his arms down and leaned forward so she could look him directly in the eyes.
🔥⚡🔥⚡
adam was all too aware of her chest bumping against his. she was the best of him but he couldn’t quite articulate his thoughts at the sight of her. “i, well—,” he stammered before letting out a low growl and flipping them, pinning her arms above her head and hovering over her.
“you are far too distracting for your own good,” he muttered.
regina’s eyes dropped to his lips and trailed down his muscled, shirtless body.
“i’m distracting? have you seen yourself?” she huffed.
his green eyes glittered with need as he stared at her parted lips, her chest still heaving against his. she pulled herself up despite her arms being pinned down and kissed him, swallowing his groan as he kissed her back with an intensity that quickly filled her core. she squirmed against his grip and wrapped her legs around his back, tugging him toward her.
she ground her hips against his, smirking against his lips as he growled. she let out a whine as he pulled away to kiss her jaw and work his way down her neck. she let out a soft gasp as he sucked at the sensitive center of her collarbone before continuing south.
he groaned at the feel of her bare skin against his. the smell of her sweat mixing with her already enticing scent sent his hypersenses into overdrive, filling his lungs to capacity until she consumed him from the inside out. all he could breathe was her.
“this is in the way,” adam growled, tugging at the material of her bra and ripping it quickly down the middle before his lips descended on her nipples.
“oh,” she breathed, her body jolting in surprise at the sudden feel of cold air against her hot skin before she smirked. “impatient, are we?”
adam slowed his movements for a second to gaze at her with a tenderness that made her forget where they were. “yes. i could live for another thousand years and never have enough of you.”
regina didn’t think she’d ever get used to the way he looked at her as though she was his reason for existing.
but the moment to dwell on it passed as adam made quick work of the rest of their clothing before leaning back over her to resume his ministrations down her trembling body.
he sat up on his knees and pulled her into his lap, waiting until her ankles hooked around his back and her arms went around his neck before capturing her lips hungrily. he kissed her again and again, stealing each breath from her until regina thought her lungs were going to burst.
adam stood, and before regina could even register the movement, he slammed her against the wall without breaking their kiss, cradling her head with one arm to soften the blow.
she wrapped her arms tightly around him, feeling safe and secure between him and the wall. adam moved his hips against hers, rubbing against her core and groaning at how wet she was. regina broke off their kiss and nipped at his ear, tugging it gently between her teeth.
“i need you,” she murmured, the feel of his hard cock against her but not in her wasn’t enough.
“you have me,” he muttered back, so softly that she almost missed it.
adam positioned himself at her core and slowly pushed himself in, giving her time adjust to the angle as he lowered his arms to her thighs. regina quickly squeezed her legs and locked her ankles behind him, her heels digging into his ass and pulling him forward.
he moved slowly at first, drawing himself almost all the way out before thrusting back in. it didn’t take long before he picked up speed, letting out a soft groan with every deep thrust, her walls squeezing against him in perfect sync.
“you’re not going to hurt me,” regina gasped quietly, one hand clutching the back of his head while the other scratched at his back.
that was always what held him back from being as rough as they both liked sometimes, the fear that he’d unintentionally hurt her. but she didn’t need to encourage him this time, regina’s sweat and natural smell completely overpowered his senses until he was deeply entrenched in her.
he began thrusting harder and faster, her slick walls squeezing tighter as she mouthed at his neck in an attempt to muffle her moans. he could feel her muscles begin to tense against him as she dragged her fingernails up his back. he lowered his head to her shoulder and bit gently, not enough to break skin, but to let her know he was there, and that he was close.
she lifted her head and kissed him hard as the pressure building in her stomach released, mumbling words of love into his mouth as she came. he could feel her walls clench around his cock and with a few more, hard thrusts, he followed her over the edge, whispering his love back to her.
she kissed him softly where his shoulder met his neck before slumping against him, breathing heavily in time with the sound of his rapid heartbeat.
after a few moments, he released his hold on her so she could lower her feet back onto the floor. she took a step and stumbled; her legs still weak from their tryst. adam’s arm tightened against her waist and held her up, the pleased smirk on his face dimpling his skin.
she smiled knowingly at him before grabbing his shirt and pulling it over her head, the large fabric easily reaching her thighs. she grabbed her ripped sports bra and underwear before sauntering back to adam, who had slipped back into his cargo pants.
he looked at her inquiringly, one eyebrow raised as she tucked her clothes into one of his pockets.
“i don’t think you want the rest of the team seeing my underwear, even if they’ll figure out what just happened as soon as they step into the training room,” she said with a laugh.
adam’s cheeks turned pink as he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “you do have a point. i should clean up after us,” he said.
regina chuckled and grabbed his hand. “or… you could join me in the shower for round two?”
he smirked and tucked one arm under her knees to pick her up, holding his shirt firmly against her thigh as he raced to the bath.

hook-a-duck - featuring adam du mortain x detective regina bishop (she/her) from the wayhaven chronicles (by @seraphinitegames)
call back to the hilarious sideshow scene at the carnival in book 2 where adam gets super competitive over a simple grab some duckies game. doesn’t help that regina’s competitive too and kicked his ass.
It’s only a couple of minutes until I have five happy-looking toy birds piled up beside me.
After ten minutes, Adam has two and is still giving it his all.
“I will have five of these.”
i had the amazing opportunity to commission from this stunning piece (have you seen the reflections of the water???) from the wonderful @mooreaux! i absolutely adore your art and working with you was a dream and if you ever get a chance to commission them, please do!
*goes without saying, but do not repost or use any part for your own ocs/characters.

family picnic - featuring the bishop-du mortain family for @wayhavensummer day 3 (picnic)
thank you to the amazing @javsarts for bringing one of my favorite scenarios to life (mentioned in bucket list and play wrestling, snippet below). I love every little thing about this - the lighting, colors, the smiles! I could not have pictured this scene any better with jacques rook, cecilia rebecca, and baby philip (just look at him with the daisies in his hand!!!! 🥺)
adam is from the wayhaven chronicles (by @seraphinitegames). I own everyone else.

scenario from bucket list when regina knows she's running out of time to decide whether to turn (spoiler alert: she doesn't) included under the cut!
regina watched adam play with their children from where she was sitting on the porch, pretending that ten-year-old jacques and seven-year-old cecilia were able to pin him to the ground. she smiled as their youngest, four-year-old philip, waddled over and placed a fistful of daisies on adam’s face, before sitting down and rearranging them with a look of concentration on his round face.

comfort - adam du mortain x detective regina bishop from the wayhaven chronicles (by @seraphinitegames)
there are not enough words to expres how much I appreciate @gnomeandostrich for being such a supportive friend 💖 thank you for these beautiful drawings of Adina comfort. I may delete this later because this hits very personally and feels like something I’d want to keep for myself, but it’s A’s birthday and I was inspired to write a little snippet to go with it:
Regina’s feet drag on the rich carpet of the warehouse living room and she drops her bag to the floor with a loud sigh. Adam follows her movements and quickly walks over to her.
“Is everything alright?”
She sighs and drops her head to his chest, arms limp at her sides. She makes no indication to move, even though she can feel him tense up. “No, but I don’t want to talk about it. I just need a hug.”
“Of course, let me see if I can find Nate or Farah,” Adam replies quickly, reasoning that the more affectionate members of the team may be better able to comfort her.
“No, I want you to hold me. Please,” she says softly, resting her hands on his chest and looking up at him.
Adam hesitates briefly before wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close. Regina sighs contentedly as she nuzzles her head under his chin and rests her cheek on his chest, oblivious to the pink flush spreading across Adam’s face.

cute cartoon no-nose version under the cut (I couldn’t decide which I liked more):

birthday drabbles - a du mortain (twc)
author’s note: a series of birthday drabbles for my favorite commanding agent. I am so so so soft for Adina and bff!A, so just forced myself to put my thoughts on paper. hope you all enjoy!
copyright: all characters, except the oc detective, are owned by mishka jenkins @seraphinitegames. series/pairing: the wayhaven chronicles – adam du mortain x f!detective (regina bishop) & bff!ava du mortain x nb!detective (harley bishop) rating/warnings: 13+; fluff, blood mention in 2nd drabble word count: ~1.1k total (~750 for adam x regina, ~300 for ava & harley) summary: a set of drabbles around the celebration of a du mortain’s birthday.
1. adam du mortain x regina bishop (~200 words) 2. adam du mortain x regina bishop (~550 words) 3. ava du mortain & harley bishop (~300 words)
1. adam du mortain x regina bishop (~200 words)
adam tucks the folder under his arm as the team makes their way out of the facility, where they just wrapped up a meeting with rebecca. he reaches into his pocket to find his sunglasses, the glow of the setting sun a bit too bright as he follows his team toward their SUV.
his fingers curl around thick cardstock and he pulls out the offending item from his pocket, brow furrowing in confusion. the frown on his face immediately disappears as he recognizes the colored drawing on the front – a faceless gray blob with yellow and peach-colored circles above it and black lines below it, holding the hands of two much smaller peach colored blobs.
unbeknownst to him, the dimples on his cheeks deepen as he opens the card and reads the scrawling handwriting of his children.
a mix of letters he can roughly tell is supposed to say “happy birthday, papa” and “we love you.”
he feels the corner of his eyes get misty when a comforting hand appears on his shoulder. he looks up at nate’s knowing smile.
“they were pretty upset that i went to work today,” adam murmurs sheepishly, tucking the card carefully into his folder.
nate smiles. “so go home to them now. we’ll see you tomorrow.”
adam looks up and realizes that morgan is sitting in the drivers’ seat of the SUV and gives his friend an appreciative nod before heading off in the opposite direction toward their family home.
***** 2. adam du mortain x regina bishop (~550 words); tw: blood mention
adam remains still, laying on his back in their empty bedroom and staring up at the ceiling. his hands are folded over his stomach, fingers intertwined, as he waits. he’s had almost a millennia to learn how to be patient, but he finds all that time means nothing when it comes to being with his family.
his wife. who also lovingly threatened requested that he pretend to be asleep and stay in the room until the children were ready with their surprise.
he can hear them all the way downstairs in the kitchen, squealing and yelling over each other, fighting over who gets to bring what up to him and he can’t help but smile at the image of a pregnant regina trying to wrangle their two very energetic children.
finally, he hears them make their way up the stairs, their two little ones scampering up ahead of regina’s slow, deliberate steps. his fingers twitch at the image of her carrying a tray of breakfast items (that he knows he will have to pretend to enjoy as they have not yet told their children that he does not need to eat real food) since he would prefer that she stay off her feet and let him help.
(but he knows by now – after two kids – that even suggesting that will earn him an earful about how she is not helpless just because she is pregnant).
he closes his eyes just as the door is nudged open and the hallway light spills into the room.
“surprise! happy birthday papa!” jacques and cecilia scream out as they clamber up onto the bed and jump up and down.
“thank you, my loves,” he murmurs, wrapping them both up in his arms and pulling them down to his side as he sits up against the headboard.
regina’s eyes sparkle as she approaches the bed with the tray, sitting carefully on the edge by his side. he grabs the tray from her and sets it down over his lap, before wrapping his arm around her waist. she reaches for the black tumbler and hands it to him before grabbing a mug of her own decaf coffee.
“your coffee that the kids helped make,” she says with a wink.
“did they now?” he chuckles, taking the tumbler from her and looking down at the single waffle on the tray that he knows she will eat after he “insists” that she needs it more than him.
it’s a routine that’s worked very well for them throughout her pregnancy and saves him from having to eat human food too often (even though they both know he would do anything to make his family happy).
“yeah, we helped!” jacques says proudly, his tongue peeking out from the gap in the top row of his teeth.
adam takes a careful sip, bracing himself for the awfully bitter, dirt-like flavor that his hypersenses reduces coffee to. his eyes open in pleasant surprise as the taste of slightly warm blood hits his tongue instead, the color hidden by the black color of the container.
“what do you think, papa?” cecilia asks eagerly, her sandy brown pigtails bouncing up and down.
“it’s the best breakfast i’ve ever had,” he says honestly as he wraps his other arm tightly around them both, smiling as they squeal and laugh.
***** 3. bff!ava du mortain & harley bishop (x felix hauville) (~300 words)
ava turns off the SUV’s engine and steps out, leaves crunching underfoot as she takes in her surroundings. she takes off her sunglasses and peers around the clearing before glancing at the note in her hand.
commanding agent du mortain –
we need you to pick up a package that will be left at the coordinates below. the rest of the team will stand by at the warehouse.
agent bishop’s signature at the bottom made it easy for her to move out without hesitation. she trusts rebecca and thus far has had no reason to question her orders.
but an uneasy feeling settles in her stomach and her brow furrows in thought.
if this assignment is so low-risk, why send her? it seems like something felix and the detective could handle easily, and they would more than jump at the chance to do something together.
she approaches the package, which is really a basket, laid out on top of a checkered blanket. she reaches for the note taped to the top of the basket, eyes softening at the message.
hey ava,
i know you would probably prefer to avoid whatever felix wanted to plan for your birthday and i managed to convince him to let me take over instead. we thought you might enjoy some time alone – we packed a book, some reports, a bottle of your favorite wine and your breakfast blood in the sippy cup (i’m really sorry, i had to give felix at least that).
happy birthday.
take your time, we’ll take care of anything that comes up on our end.
- harley
commanding agent du mortain is not soft by most definitions of the word, but she certainly feels touched. appreciated. loved.
and once more she has her family to thank for that. including the detective.

prepared - adam du mortain x f!detective (twc)
day 25 – regret
Tumblr media
author’s note: this outline was 2 pages long from weeks ago and i’m so glad i was able to figure out a non-angsty response to this one. thanks so much for the request, @agentnolastname. this ended up being a full fic pretty much, i hope you all enjoy!
copyright: all characters, except my oc detective, are owned by mishka jenkins @seraphinitegames. series/pairing: the wayhaven chronicles – adam du mortain x f!detective (regina bishop) rating/warnings: 16+; suggestive imagery word count: ~2k based on/prompt: day 25 – regret from #28dateswithunitbravo challenge by @wayhavenmonthly summary: after a heated night where adam panicked, regina is left confused and hurt.
prepared
regina walked into the living room, smiling at the sight of adam reading quietly on the couch, on one of their rare days off. they had implicitly agreed to explore things between them, and she was both excited and terrified. more often the former than the latter these days, especially when he was like this, relaxed and willing to stay in her company.
“you’re staring,” he murmured, without looking up and turning the page of his book.
she tried to suppress her giddy smile as she bounced over to him, standing in front of him and casting a shadow over his book until he was forced to look up at her. she reached down and removed the book from his hands, carefully placing it on the seat next to him. he looked at her quizzically, the raised eyebrow dropping to meet the other as she placed her hands on his shoulders before settling her knees on either side of his thighs.
she sat down, comfortably seated on his thighs and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“how can i not stare at you?” she said with a soft smile. “you’re gorgeous.”
the corner of his lips quirked up into a smile against his will. “how could i possibly compare to you?” he said, delicately placing his hands on her hips.
regina hummed. “i guess you can’t,” she grinned cheekily, sliding slightly closer and watching a faint blush creep up his neck and color his cheeks.
she ran her thumbs along his jaw and tilted his head back, her attention squarely on his lips. her eyes flicked upward hesitantly before she tilted her head down, feeling his pulse quicken and his throat still under her hands as though he was holding his breath. she moved slowly, to give him the space to stop her, but his grip on her hips only tightened slightly. his mouth parted and regina closed the gap between them, closing her eyes at the feel of his soft lips moving against hers and soft moans vibrating between them.
his thumbs slipped under the hem of her shirt, whether consciously or not, she wasn’t sure, but it spurred a desire to be bolder than she usually was with adam in moments like this. her tongue danced with his when his mouth parted again, her hips mirroring the movements. she ground against him, hands moving toward his back and under his shirt, trying to close the nonexistent gap between them.
a low growl escaped adam’s throat and sent a thrill down regina’s spine. she could feel that he was hard even through their clothing and the sensation spurred her on, the room around them fading away as she ground harder and faster against him.
“adam,” she sighed, in-between kisses, moving her hands to slip under his shirt.
he froze at the sound of her voice and pulled away, stilling her hips and shifting her back. regina opened her eyes, stunned and confused, shifting her weight back on his lap.
“hey, it’s okay. it’s just me,” she said softly at the sight of his panicked expression. she moved closer to him again, settling herself against his hips.
he refused to meet her eye, standing abruptly instead, the sudden movement threatening to send her flying off him and onto the floor. his arms wrapped around her back and he set her on her feet before turning and walking toward the hallway.
“i’m—i’m sorry,” he said quickly, turning his face toward her without making eye contact before disappearing from the room.
what just happened? regina wondered, collapsing against the couch and wrapping her arms around her knees. maybe she had pushed him too quickly? the nature and state of their relationship was still a question mark, but she had thought they were making progress. maybe their relationship wasn’t meant to get physical.
or maybe it was just her. tears started prickling behind her eyes as she desperately tried to push away her deep-rooted insecurity trying to claw its way to the surface and drown her from the inside.
a few days later, at the police station
adam looked at the station doors from behind a nearby tree, internally warring with himself as to whether it was really the best time to talk about what happened a few nights ago. he certainly never pictured himself wanting to have a personal conversation about their relationship while regina was on duty, but the thought that she may have been left with the wrong impression about his intentions toward her didn’t sit well with him.
his shoulders tensed at the sudden sound of someone whistling near the station. he peeked around the tree, only to clench his jaw at the sight of the nosy reporter making his way into the station. no doubt to bother the detective.
regina sighed as she nudged the stack of paperwork to the edge of her desk with her forearm, pushing her keyboard as far back as it could go so she could rest her forehead on her arms. the last few days hadn’t been easy, between the impromptu agency meetings regarding new supernatural species moving to the area and mediating a territory dispute in the forest. it barely left time for sleep, let alone a chance for her and adam to talk.
if she was being honest, she knew she was avoiding the conversation and welcomed the additional work. but she also knew she couldn’t let this drag on much longer. there was still an awkward tension around them, even though she did her best to remain professional.
“your bodyguard isn’t around today,” bobby’s voice cut through her small office, his face partially obscured by the narrow glass vase in his hands encasing a few red roses.
“he’s not my bodyguard,” she said, rolling her eyes.
“is he your boyfriend?” bobby asked, jealousy clearly marking his features.
regina faltered and looked away. “not exactly, no.”
she could almost hear the smirk that appeared on bobby’s face and looked back at him to find that he had stepped closer to her. “so you’re single, and i’m single, so why don’t i take you out for a nice valentine’s day dinner, like old times? i even got you your favorite flowers.”
she shuddered at the memories of their past valentine’s celebrations together, none of which had been particularly pleasant for her. she eyed the vase as he set it down on the desk in front of her, placing his palms carefully on the wood surface and leaning toward her.
“first of all, those aren’t my favorite flowers. you would know that if you paid attention. and given our history, it’s incredibly bold of you to bring me roses and ask me out on a date,” she said, pursing her lips together to prevent her train of thought (presumptive asshole) from being spoken out loud.
bobby took a step back with a hand over his chest in mock hurt. “you wound me, angel.”
“just get out of here bobby,” she said, gritting her teeth.
“that’s not a no, so i’ll pick you up at seven, angel,” he called out as he headed out of her office.
she came to her senses at the nickname, standing up and rounding her desk quickly. “it’s always going to be a no to you!” she snapped at his retreating back, but he merely waved his hand at her without looking back.
regina let out a frustrated yell, grabbing the vase he had set on her desk and threw it as hard as she could at the far wall, the sound of it shattering and falling to the floor in pieces doing little to release the tension in her shoulders.
adam had waited patiently outside the door to regina’s office, not wanting to interrupt her conversation with the reporter, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t listening to every exchange between them, his grip on the doorknob tightening and warping the metal before he realized and tucked his hand into his pocket instead. he moved swiftly to the side as bobby walked out and glared at him, and it was all adam could to do suppress the urge to knock him unconscious.
he knocked twice and walked in, surveying the room briefly, lingering on the broken vase and scattered flowers before meeting her gaze. “i will not be paying for that,” he said, his mouth curving upward into a gentle smile.
regina couldn’t help but smile and appreciate that he was actually joking with her. “not that i’m complaining, but what are you doing here? i figured you’d be busy today,” she said, moving back to sit on the edge of her desk.
adam’s smile faded and regina noticed his eyes had turned a conflicted green, shifting from an icy green to its usual warm emerald. she wasn’t sure if she had seen him this nervous before; one of the things she appreciated about him was that he didn’t beat around the bush.
he finally looked at her and clasped his hands behind his back. “i wanted to talk about what happened the other night,” he said finally.
a weight settled in her stomach. “oh, right,” she said, swallowing nervously.
“i regret the way i reacted. and you deserve an explanation,” he said softly, stepping closer to her as if that would ease the awkwardness between them.
regina shook her head, trying not to let her disappointment show. “it’s okay, adam. i know we never talked about it, but it’s alright if you’re not interested in anything more physical. i can respect that. and it doesn’t change how i feel about you.”
his eyebrows shot up so quickly that regina thought they might fly off his face. “you are mistaken.”
at the frown on her face, he cleared his throat and followed up quickly, “i am very interested. i was just… unprepared that evening and you deserve… more.”
unprepared? she thought the word choice was odd since it wasn’t like they had planned to do anything physical; she had just gone with her instincts after all. although she vaguely remembered adam telling her once that he hadn’t been with anyone in that way since before he was turned.
understanding dawned on regina’s face. “oh adam, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about, i promise. it happens.”
“still, i want to make sure you are aware of how… receptive i am to progressing our physical relationship as well. in fact, i have thought about it often,” he said warmly, but the underlying tone was suggestive.
the way he said it, as his gaze slowly trailed down the length of her body and back up, sent a shiver up her spine. her mouth parted open in surprise at his boldness as she met his gaze, icy and full of fire at the same time, the intensity of them stealing her breath and rooting her to the spot, raising her body temperature even though he was still a few feet away.
he stepped slowly, but surely, closer to her until he was hovering over her and regina had to tilt her head up to look at him from where she was perched on her desk. he leaned down and captured her lips with his, her body reacting instantly, hands moving to his waist as his tangled themselves in her hair. his lips were fire and water, each movement against hers sending sparks down her throat and drowning her at the same time.
when he finally pulled away, she felt flushed from head to toe and cleared her throat, “well, i’m probably not going to get any work done today.”
adam looked a little proud that he had flustered her so visibly. “perhaps i can help you later this evening then. we can do… paperwork at your apartment together,” he said slowly.
the deliberate way he paused before the word “paperwork” made her breath hitch and she could only nod.
he walked out of the office backwards with deliberate steps, putting his sunglasses on slowly before turning away, but not before regina noticed the smirk on his lips. she looked at the pile of paperwork on her desk and knew that the end of the day couldn’t come fast enough.

Oh Jen! The #35 with Adam and Regina please 😂💕
thanks soso! this is such a hilarious prompt xD
author’s note: this is such a funny scenario, thank you for the request. hope you all enjoy! copyright: all characters, except the oc detective and kids, are owned by mishka jenkins @seraphinitegames. series/pairing: the wayhaven chronicles – adam du mortain x f!detective (regina bishop) rating/warnings: 13+; swearing based on/prompt: little ones // 35. Little one sticking pretzel sticks up their nose. word count: ~600 summary: regina finds that her babysitters aren’t quite doing what they’re supposed to.
regina paused in the kitchen doorway, holding her two-year-old daughter against her hip and watching farah rummage around the cupboards on her tiptoes.
“what are you looking for?”
“snacks.”
she raised an eyebrow at the vampire who grabbed several packages of pretzels and waltzed past her toward the bedrooms.
“aunt farah is probably up to something since she doesn’t need to eat snacks, don’t you think, cece?” she asked her daughter, who was too busy trying to chew on regina’s hair to notice.
she gently pulled her hair out of the toddler’s mouth. “i am probably going to regret this, but better me than adam i guess,” she sighed as she headed to her old room in the warehouse that had since been converted to the children’s bedroom.
“let’s go, jackie. one more.”
regina was surprised to hear morgan’s voice join farah’s in egging on her son as she nudged the door open. her jaw dropped to find that five-year-old jacques was sitting between his aunts on the floor with half-empty bags of pretzel sticks and crumbs scattered about.
“what the fuck?”
jacques looked up at his mother’s voice with a fistful of pretzel sticks, five currently shoved up his nose, and his other hand in the process of adding a sixth.
“shit—i mean, crap,” regina stamped her foot in frustration at the fact that she couldn’t seem to stop cursing in front of her children. “never mind. jacques baby, can you put down the pretzels?”
five-year-old jacques sneezed and most of the pretzels came flying out. morgan recoiled from the sound and sight of jacques’ dripping nose and regina sighed.
“i expected this from farah, but morgan? you both better clean this up and clean him up before adam gets home,” she warned, shifting cecilia to her other hip and reaching into her pocket for some wipes.
“do i even want to ask?”
they all collectively jumped at the sound of adam’s voice behind regina. even morgan had the decency to look somewhat abashed, although the smirk on her face said she was enjoying this.
“papa!”
jacques stood up, the pretzels in his hands falling to the floor, forgotten, and walked towards the door. regina smiled and moved into the room so adam could pick up his son.
she handed cecilia to farah so she could help clean jacques’ face with a wipe before giving her son a kiss on the cheek and her husband a kiss on the lips.
“can you put him down for his nap?”
adam lifted his chin in the direction of the room behind her. “of course, but perhaps we could leave pretzels off the grocery list in the future?”
she chuckled and patted his back as he walked down the hallway before turning back to the room. morgan had handed cecilia a pretzel stick and the two-year-old was about to put it in her mouth.
regina let out an exasperated sigh. “those were on the floor. and she’ll choke. i can’t leave you alone for two minutes, can i?”
“probably not a good idea, sweetheart,” morgan smirked.
cecilia let out a whine as regina picked her up and grabbed the pretzel from her. “clean this up,” she ordered, glaring pointedly at farah and morgan.
“yes, ma’am,” farah teased with a mock salute.
regina just shook her head and followed adam down the hallway.
farah looked between morgan and the pretzels on the floor. “i won! i told you regina would be more likely to be upset than adam.”
morgan rolled her eyes. “fine, but i’m still not cleaning this up.”

vows - adam du mortain x f!detective (twc)
day 28 – soulmates
Tumblr media
author’s note: thank you so much for the request @anotherbeingsworld. i am so glad i got to end this month’s challenge with such a sappy, happy fic – i don’t know if this is my canon wedding fic for these two (mainly b/c regina’s being stupid), but it was fun to write. i hope you all enjoy!
copyright: all characters, except my oc detective, are owned by mishka jenkins @seraphinitegames. series/pairing: the wayhaven chronicles – adam du mortain x f!detective (regina bishop) rating/warnings: 14+; fluff word count: 1.5k based on/prompt: day 28 – soulmates from #28dateswithunitbravo challenge by @wayhavenmonthly summary: adam surprised regina with his vows on their wedding day.
vows
regina took one last look at herself in the mirror, her grandmother’s veil framing her face and covering her shoulders. her hair had been styled in soft waves and pinned back in a half-updo, and a delicate pair of diamond studs adorned her ears.
“are you nervous?” farah asked, standing behind her so regina could see her in the mirror.
“a little, but i think it’s more nervous anticipation than anything,” she said softly, fiddling with the large, ornate engagement ring on her finger.
she locked eyes with farah in the mirror, feeling a familiar prickle behind her eyes and remembering tina’s warning about ruining her makeup. “i just never thought we’d get here, you know?”
farah gave her an understanding smile and squeezed her shoulder reassuringly. “i know it wasn’t the easiest road to get here, for either of you.”
regina put her hand on farah’s and squeezed back. a knock on the door made them both turn.
tina opened the door, holding out regina’s bouquet. “we better get going or else your guy might break something,” she joked as regina took the bouquet from her.
“i better go check on him,” farah said, giving regina a wink and leaving the room.
“are you ready?” tina asked softly.
regina stood up, adjusting her dress with tina’s help. “i think so. how do i look?”
“if the battery ram doesn’t marry you, i will,” she said and regina chuckled.
they exchanged a long look of understanding, one that could only be ascribed to friends who had seen each other through the highs and lows of their twenties and secrets that no one else would know.
“it’s the end of an era,” tina said quietly, one hand on the doorknob, the other clasping regina’s. “you and me.”
regina gave tina’s hand a squeeze. “i’m still going to see you around. we’ll still hang out.”
tina gave her a bittersweet smile. “you know it’ll be different. you’re marrying the love of your life and beginning your life together. and i’m incredibly happy for you. if anyone deserves to be happy, you do.”
“you are definitely going to make me cry,” regina said, trying to delicately wipe away a tear without smudging her eyeliner.
“if you cry, i’m definitely going to cry,” tina said, chuckling. “so let’s get you married before that happens.”
* * * * * it was a small ceremony, of only those that felt like family, but regina didn’t even register anyone else besides the man at the end of the aisle that stole her senses. she didn’t register that his crisp, tailored charcoal suit matched nate and morgan to his left, nor that verda was standing in the center smiling at her encouragingly.
her eyes never left adam’s green ones, sparkling with warmth in the late morning sun as she walked down the aisle, the breeze ruffling his hair, styled no doubt at nate’s insistence. the silvery sheen of his pale blue tie matched the heels hidden underneath her dress, coordinated no doubt with farah’s help. but all of those details faded away like a vignette as she approached him.
she gave her mother a hug but didn’t register rebecca’s red rimmed eyes as she moved to sit down next to eric. nor did she register farah’s beaming smile or tina’s teary one from where they stood on verda’s left. she handed her bouquet to tina without so much as a glance in her direction, preoccupied with the feel of adam’s arm as she tucked her hand into the crook of his elbow.
she continued to stare at him in awe even after adam turned back to face verda, but he kept glancing to the side at her once verda began the ceremony, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
“we are gathered here today, to join these two souls together,” verda began, smiling warmly at regina.
adam raised his hand up and verda fell silent. regina glanced between them both, trying to suppress the panic rising in her throat.
“if i may, i would like to say something first,” he interrupted, his tone gentle but still laced with authority.
regina tensed. why would adam want to interrupt their wedding?
“i know we agreed to do our vows in private after the ceremony, but i need to make sure you and our closest friends understand what you mean to me,” he explained. “as dr. verda has said, we are here to join our souls together spiritually, but you must know by now my soul has always been yours.”
regina’s mouth fell open slightly.
“i know now, without a single questioning thought in every fiber of my being, that you are my soulmate, in every romantic and literal sense of the word,” adam murmured.
he reached up to stroke her cheek with his thumb, brushing against her veil.
“and i love you with my entire heart and soul and i promise to love you forever,” he said, smiling gently with his fingers resting under her chin.
regina could feel tears gathering in the corner of her eyes, the lump in her throat blocking her voice. they hadn’t discussed whether she would turn, so the idea that he would still love her even after she was gone and never love again overwhelmed her completely. adam looked at her with such love and tenderness that somewhere in the distant corners of her mind, she knew she should be saying something, anything, but especially that she felt the same.
but how could she even hope to articulate the depths of her feelings for him when words failed her like this?
say something, she thought, vaguely aware that her mouth was still open in surprise when verda cleared his throat and continued with the scripted vows.
adam took both of her hands in his and smiled warmly, just as verda said, “adam du mortain, do you take regina elizabeth bishop, to be your lawfully wedded wife? do you promise to love, honor, cherish and protect her, forsaking all others and holding only unto her?”
“i do,” adam’s said, his voice ringing clearly. “you have my heart, my body, my soul, for evermore and i will always say yes to every lifetime with you.”
“and do you, regina elizabeth bishop, take adam du mortain, to be your lawfully wedded husband? do you promise to love, honor, cherish and protect him, forsaking all others and holding only unto him?”
regina’s mind was still in a daze, replaying adam’s words from earlier on loop. she felt tina adjust the veil at her back, subtly pinching the skin between her shoulder blades in the process, an attempt to shake her out of her stunned silence.
“i—i need a minute,” she blurted out, grabbing onto the skirts of her dress and running back down the aisle.
tina chased after her, catching her back inside the dressing room while adam looked on, brow furrowed in concern. his gaze fell to the ground, nate’s hand patting his shoulder reassuringly.
it could be feasible, although the thought hadn’t occurred to him in a very long time, that regina might not feel the same. perhaps he went too far and overwhelmed her and now she might change her mind.
“are you okay?” tina asked, quickly handing her a water bottle and encouraging her to take a sip.
regina shook her head. “i’m okay, i just got overwhelmed. i can’t believe he feels so strongly for me, and i couldn’t come up with anything that would really explain how i feel and i—oh god, he’s probably panicking, right now!”
“hey, take a deep breath,” tina said sharply. “the way that man looks at you, like you’re a dream he never wants to wake up from, and the fact that you said yes to marrying him, that already tells him how you feel. all you need to do is actually marry the man.”
regina looked at tina and they burst into laughter together. “you’re right,” she said, gathering her dress and exiting the room one last time.
she ran back down the aisle, tina frantically chasing after her and holding up the back of her dress. regina grabbed adam’s arm for balance as she stopped suddenly in front of the podium.
“i do! of course, i do! a thousand lifetimes over, and i will always say ‘i do’,” she said breathlessly, eyes shining with unshed tears.
adam’s shoulders instantly dropped in relief and she giggled, mouthing a silent “i’m sorry,” as verda asked the crowd for any objections.
“you may now kiss the bride.”
adam gently cupped her face in his hands and leaned in, his emerald green eyes drinking in every part of her before his lips covered hers. her hands instinctively reached up to either side of his neck, keeping him in place as their lips moved in sync slowly and deliberately, only pulling apart when the cheers and clapping around them had gone on for almost a minute.
“i love you, mrs. du mortain,” he whispered as he pulled back to look at her again.
“and i love you,” she said, her heart swelling with more joy than she ever thought possible.

tonight - adam du mortain x f!detective (twc)
day 15 - single
author’s note: @keybleminded suggested the single bed trope for this prompt and this is what i came up with; sorry that it’s a little less fluffy than i originally intended. i hope you all enjoy!
copyright: all characters, except my oc detective, are owned by mishka jenkins @seraphinitegames. series/pairing: the wayhaven chronicles – adam du mortain x f!detective (regina bishop) rating/warnings: 16+; teeny tiny angst, one bed trope, implied drugging word count: 1.6k based on/prompt: day 15 – single from #28dateswithunitbravo challenge by @wayhavenmonthly summary: the night before a recon mission, farah and regina get into a little bit of trouble and adam keeps regina company through the night.
tonight
farah ran into the room and jumped on to the full-sized bed in the room, which was just big enough to be comfortable for two people, if those two people were willing to get cozy. it was the only decent thing in the very small hotel room, besides the small television, and regina was thankful they only needed to spend one night here. tomorrow morning, they would scout out the supposed rendezvous site and hopefully be back in wayhaven by nightfall.
regina sighed and put her duffel bag on the floor before taking off her coat. “i can’t believe there’s only one bed. didn’t adam fill out the paperwork?”
“why, you wishing he was here instead so you could cozy up on the only bed in the room like in the movies?” farah teased, slipping her shoes off and making herself comfortable.
regina rolled her eyes. “like that would ever happen. you all don’t need to sleep, remember? adam would just say i should take the bed because i need the rest while he stays up and keeps watch ‘for my protection’,” she said, using air quotes to emphasize her point.
“that was a great adam impression! it’s too bad you’re not into me, because i would totally pretend it was really cold and we needed to cuddle to keep warm,” farah winked.
“well it actually is pretty cold, so you wouldn’t have to pretend. and we could still cuddle if you want,” regina offered, chuckling.
farah sighed loudly. “not in the way that i know you want to with adam,” she chuckled at the flush that started creeping up regina’s neck before her gaze fell on a flyer placed carefully on the nightstand.
“can we go to this?”
regina skimmed the flyer that farah handed to her. “we’re supposed to get up early tomorrow. i don’t know if going out tonight is a good idea.”
“but it’s singles night! i’ve never gotten to go to one of these before,” farah pleaded, even as she started rummaging through their duffel bags for a more appropriate outfit.
the pros and cons ran through regina’s mind. on the one hand, it would be a chance to relax a little before the mission and distract herself from thinking about adam for a bit. on the other, they could be putting the mission at risk by potentially not being rested for tomorrow or exposing themselves unintentionally.
“i’ve never seen you wear this,” farah said, holding up a shimmery gold draped halter top with thin straps. “let’s go!”
why had she even packed that for an overnight mission? farah tossed it at her and motioned for her to go get changed.
back at the warehouse
the grandfather clock in the warehouse living room ticked loudly in the otherwise quiet space. the other members of unit bravo were enjoying their brief reprieve from farah’s usual antics. nate was reading on the couch and morgan was silently blowing smoke rings from her usual corner.
on any other night, he would be thoroughly enjoying a quiet evening to catch up on paperwork and otherwise relax. he kept telling himself it was a simple recon mission, the type they executed seamlessly numerous times. farah was the best for this type of mission and he trusted her to get regina out of any dangerous situations.
but for some reason, the quiet of the evening was still too loud for him.
he gripped the pen even tighter until the plastic was just on the edge of cracking, bending against even less than a tenth of his strength.
he missed the hum. there was a palpable energy that seemed to emanate from regina that touched anyone in her vicinity wherever she went. an energy that relaxed as often as it moved and matched the steady hum of her heartbeat.
a sound he sorely missed.
adam froze at the revelation, his body as still as the air, except for the crack of the pen as it snapped in half. the sound was quickly muffled by the harsh ring of his phone, jolting him back to the moment. farah’s name flashed across the tiny screen, fear filling his stomach in a way that was becoming all too familiar.
“i will be right there,” he growled into the phone after less than a minute.
nate looked up from his book. “is everything all right? do you need us?”
“no, i will handle it,” adam said firmly, grabbing his coat on the way out.
* * * * * it didn’t take long for adam to find them. even if he didn’t have regina’s scent and heartbeat memorized even more than farah’s (the fleeting thought made his brow furrow), the ruckus they were causing outside the bar would alert anyone to their location.
he sighed and made his way over to where farah was holding up a very drowsy regina, who could barely stand on her own, which he partially blamed on the impractical heels she was wearing and the icy snow on the ground.
“adam, thanks for coming. i think our detective here is going to need to get to bed,” farah said slyly, a mischievous twinkle in her eye that made adam groan inwardly.
he let his gaze wander up and down regina’s body for a fraction of a second longer than necessary to assess her physical well-being, which he knew would not go unnoticed by farah. he tucked one arm under her knees and let farah place regina’s upper body on his other arm so he could carry her, shifting her head to lean against his shoulder.
they made their way back to the hotel room, with heightened speed, farah quickly getting regina changed and comfortable while adam scanned the perimeter.
“what happened?” he asked quietly, once regina was tucked under the covers.
farah sighed. “we went to a singles night event at the bar and she got a lot of attention. i think someone may have tried to drug her. she didn’t have that much to drink when she started feeling dizzy.”
adam pressed his lips into a thin line in an attempt to keep his stoic mask in place. “is she alright?”
“she’s had a lot of water and should be able to sleep it off,” farah fidgeted with the ends of her scarf. “i’m sorry adam; it was my idea to go out and—”
“this is not your fault, farah. you are not to be blamed for inconsiderate fools who would drug and take advantage of someone,” he said softly, putting a hand on her shoulder and farah found only sincerity in adam’s gaze. “at least regina—i mean, the detective, is fine. we can postpone the mission.”
“actually, about that – the site we were going to observe tomorrow is the bar,” farah explained. “it’s definitely a supernatural gathering place and there’s something in the basement. there’s not much more we can uncover without proper surveillance equipment.”
adam nodded. “good work. we’ll report back to agent bishop in the morning then. in the meantime, get some rest. i will keep watch.”
a thoughtful look passed through farah’s face before being replaced by a mischievous one. “actually, i think i will head back to the warehouse and you can keep the detective warm,” she said, zipping around the room and packing up her things before adam could protest.
“the thermostat’s broken and she’s shivering like crazy. you wouldn’t want her to catch cold, would you?” farah teased, hovering by the doorway.
adam opened his mouth to say something before promptly closing it. he glanced over at regina’s form under the duvet, and he could tell that farah was right. she was shivering, her body trying to process and expel whatever the toxin was.
he groaned and rubbed his face before giving a resigned nod, unlacing his combat boots one by one and sitting carefully on the other side of the bed.
“i’m pretty sure whatever is in her system will keep her from remembering anything in the morning, so you can let your guard down a little. i won’t tell anyone,” farah said, giving him a sympathetic smile before disappearing and locking the door behind her.
adam sighed and shifted closer to regina, carefully laying on top of the covers so as not to disturb her and maintain some space between them. he frowned at the sight of her shivering and curled up into a ball, arms wrapped tightly around her shoulders.
it was his duty to keep the detective safe. it was natural that he be concerned for her well-being as a member of his team.
he hovered his hand close to her cheek, his thumb ghosting over her pale skin. she let out an almost inaudible moan, her shoulders shaking against the thick duvet.
he needed to find a way to warm her up. he snaked his arm around her waist, tucking one end of the duvet under her body and rolling her on top of his chest, effectively rolling her up in the covers. her head lay on his heart, and he hoped the sound of his heartbeat drumming against his ribcage loudly wouldn’t wake her up.
she let out a contented sigh that tickled his chin and he brought his other arm to her side, rubbing soothing circles up and down her arm and side to warm up her body. her shivering subsided as he did so, her breathing returning to its normal pace.
he closed his eyes and allowed the flutter in his chest to expand, the scent of her surrounding him fully.
just for tonight, he would relish being this close to her.
and in the morning, he would tell himself it was purely for her well-being and nothing else.

story time - adam du mortain x f!detective (twc)
day 22 - fairy tale
author’s note: i have to once again thank my amazing discord crew @gavcowles and @kelseaaa for brainstorming this idea with me. i blame you for the puddle that is me right now. i hope you all enjoy!
copyright: all characters, except my oc detective, are owned by mishka jenkins @seraphinitegames. series/pairing: the wayhaven chronicles – adam du mortain x f!detective (regina bishop) rating/warnings: 13+; fluff word count: ~800 based on/prompt: day 22 – fairy tale from #28dateswithunitbravo challenge by @wayhavenmonthly summary: uncle nate and aunt farah do story time with jacques, and regina and adam reminisce a little about their relationship.
story time
nate laid out several children’s books in front of jacques, who was seated in his lap patiently, unusual for the typically fussy child. the two-year-old was already a lot more energetic and mischievous than any of unit bravo had bargained for, to the point where they needed to take turns keeping an eye on him.
it was almost time for his nap and nate had offered to read him a story. farah insisted on helping, but really she wanted to be around for the moment during story time when jacques’ eyes and head got heavier until he fell asleep. it was one of her favorite moments.
regina sat in adam’s lap in the armchair across the room, arm wrapped around his shoulders, smiling fondly at nate sitting on the floor with jacques and farah laying on her stomach next to them.
“which one, jackie?” farah cooed, nudging the books closer to jacques.
“please do not give him a nickname, farah,” adam sighed, although they all could tell his heart wasn’t in it.
regina nudged him and gave him a tired smile. he wrapped his arm tightly around her waist as jacques placed a hand on the cover of beauty and the beast.
“a classic,” farah grinned, grabbing the book and handing it to nate before sitting up so she could help read as well.
“that’s one of my favorites,” regina said, sitting up straighter so she could pay attention. “jacques clearly has good taste and takes after me.”
nate began reading out loud, pointing to the pictures in the book and changing his voice for each of the main characters. adam and regina watched affectionately as jacques’ eyes and hand followed nate’s fingers across the page, reaching out to grab it more than once.
“even in the dark, belle’s father could tell it was a huge monster that appeared,” nate’s soothing reading voice continued before farah interrupted.
“oh, it’s just like adam when we first met regina,” she said, chuckling before lowering herself to jacques’ eye level. “your daddy acted like a big, scary man to your mommy.”
adam groaned. “must you?”
“she’s not wrong,” regina giggled. “you know this is how story time goes, you may as well get used to it.”
he sighed but the corner of his lips quirked up into a familiar smile that she had come to adore. it was a special one reserved for moments like this, their son bonding with their family.
“you have to admit, the parallels are there,” regina chuckled as nate continued with the story.
“what parallels?” he asked, lowering his voice so as not to disturb the story. “i did not act like a beast.”
regina smirked and raised her hand up so she could count off one by one. “farah already mentioned your initial attempt to scare me—”
“not an attempt, it technically worked since you ruined my shirt,” adam interrupted.
she ignored him and continued, lowering another finger. “you kept pushing me away.”
“you kept stumbling into trouble and i have had to rescue you multiple times,” adam interrupted, trying to unfold one of her fingers.
regina ignored him and moved her hand away, continuing her count. “we got ambushed by a bunch of ‘wolves,’ and you got injured protecting me.”
her tone faltered at the memory of seeing adam bruised and passed out in the rain outside her apartment complex, which quickly mingled with the picture of him bloodied up after the fight against the trappers in the sewers. other memories surfaced from their missions, several were more than unpleasant.
adam locked eyes with her and they exchanged a knowing glance full of understanding and gratitude for how close they came to losing everything. she lowered her forehead to his and he closed his eyes to help ease the guilt and fear that sometimes cycled through his body in moments like these.
the weight of the moment blanketed them both and regina brushed her nose against his, tilting his face up and back in the process so she could look him in the eye.
“and then we started to get to know each other but you pushed me away because you viewed yourself as a monster and not worthy of being loved by anyone,” she said softly, reaching out to hold his face in her hands so he had no choice but to look at her.
regret flitted across his face and darkened his green eyes. “but i fell in love with you anyway. you saved me,” she said, giving him a soft kiss.
“that is where you are wrong,” he murmured against her lips, eyes softening and returning to their warm hue. “you saved me.”
she smiled and they turned their attention back to their family, their faces leaning against each other’s, the knowing smiles on nate and farah’s faces the only sign that they had heard everything.

heartbeat - adam du mortain x f!detective (twc)
day 11 – accident
Tumblr media
author’s note: thanks for the request @withbeautyandrage! i hope you enjoy!
copyright: all characters, except my oc detective, are owned by mishka jenkins @seraphinitegames. series/pairing: the wayhaven chronicles – adam du mortain x f!detective (regina bishop) rating/warnings: 14+; minor mention of disappearing word count: 1k based on/prompt: day 11 – accident from #28dateswithunitbravo challenge by @wayhavenmonthly summary: regina botches a mission and braces herself for a lecture from adam, who instead expresses more of his feelings instead.
heartbeat
regina stumbled toward the ground, hand splayed against a nearby tree trunk for balance. the sound of a car door closing in the distance sent a wave of relief coursing through her tired veins. only one group would know to find her here and have the means to do so.
she sighed and tried to mentally brace herself for the lecture she was about to get from adam, despite every bone in her body telling her to just lay down on the floor and pass out. she leaned against the tree to keep her body propped up, laying her head back and letting her shoulders drop against the support.
just as she predicted, unit bravo quickly appeared beside her, concern lacing their features. she smiled weakly and gave them a half wave, wincing at the jolt of pain in her wrist as she did so.
adam nodded to the team before they quickly dispersed, likely to scout the area and see if they could recover the creature she had lost.
“can you stand?” he asked softly, crouching down to her level and offering his arm to her for balance.
she nodded and pressed her weight on to him as she slowly got to her feet, pushing her body the rest of the way until she was upright. she leaned heavily on adam’s arm, his body as solid and strong as anyone would expect, but it still surprised her how firm and unmovable he was, even with her weight against him.
as soon as she seemed steady on her feet, he grabbed her shoulders and turned her to face him, the movement simultaneously propping her up and holding her in place.
“what were you thinking?” adam said, his words punctuating clearly even through his clenched teeth.
it was a stupid and impulsive decision on her part, and adam had every right to be upset. regina just wished he would save the lecture for after she had recovered from her injuries. she knows now she shouldn’t have tried to carry out this mission by herself after an argument with the team just to prove that she wasn’t as weak and incapable as she felt sometimes.
regina knows it’s just because they care and want her safe, but she could only hear so many times about how dangerous it is and how human she is before she snapped. as though it were her fault that she was human with blood that everyone wanted.
“it was an accident, adam,” she sighed, rubbing her temples in an attempt to relieve her pounding headache.
the creature had woken up from sedation while she was still driving to the drop-off location and in its panicked state, rocked itself against the inside of her car and tried to launch itself at her. all while in an agency-designed cage. she swerved off the road and hit a tree, allowing the creature to spring free from the car, rolling in the cage down the hill until it hit a tree and broke open.
“an accident that could have cost you your life!” his lips were pressed into a thin line, eyebrows creased in concern and annoyance, but his eyes flashed with something. it was there for only a fraction of a second, but she could’ve sworn it looked like fear.
“it wouldn’t have gotten that far. i can take care of myself,” she argued back defensively, mustering what little energy she had to cross her arms over her chest defiantly. her shoulders deflated a little, knowing that he was at least partially right.
she had tried to chase after the creature but stopped short when she noticed the cage had broken, knowing that she would definitely lose in a head-to-head fight.
regina could see his shoulders tighten further even as his grip on her remained the same. the man’s self-control was astounding.
“it wouldn’t have been the worst thing anyway,” she whispered, mostly to herself.
if she was being honest, every mission they had the last few months seemed to escalate on the danger scale. ever since the bounty on her head kept rising, the agency was on high alert and the team was constantly on edge to the point where it didn’t even feel like she could walk down the hallway outside her apartment to throw out the trash without their permission.
the constant worry she’d see on their faces stayed with her at all hours, and she felt guilty that she was the reason they couldn’t relax and spend more downtime with each other, away from danger. she was barely allowed to stay in her own apartment alone, the memory of what happened when murphy attacked still fresh in everyone’s minds.
it wasn’t the first time she had the thought that everything might be better if she disappeared, and it probably wouldn’t be the last. “all of this would be over and you all can go back to your normal lives,” she said softly, sighing in exhaustion.
adam flinched so violently at her comment that he yanked her forward. she stumbled right into his chest, releasing her arms so she could catch her balance against his chest.
“losing you… i cannot bear the thought of it,” he murmured, wrapping his arms around her to hold her against his chest.
the feel of his arms around her made her knees give out and she almost didn’t hear him. he held her steady against him, the words echoing in her head in time to his heartbeat. she held her breath, not wanting to hear him take those words back, which he would, if she said anything. the feel of how his heartbeat matched the pace of her fluttering one gave her some comfort.
he tucked one arm under her knees and gently lifted her up, adjusting his other arm under her back. regina winced as she lifted her arms, clasping her hands loosely around his neck.
“i’m sorry,” she murmured, tucking her head against his shoulder as he carried her to the car. “i won’t do it again.”
adam’s grip on her tightened, even as his shoulder seemed to relax a little at her admission. if expressing how important she was to the team – to him – would keep her safe, he would take that into consideration. based on the quiet of her breathing and soft heartbeat, he needed to get her to the agency doctors as fast as possible.
