The type of IBS day where I walk out of the toilet stall, wash my hands, and turn around and go right back in.

One thing I hear a lot from healthy people and medical professionals is "what would this diagnosis do for you?" and "diagnoses are only important if they help you get services/meds/help"
And while they're not wrong... I think a lot of people forget that a lot of times you need a diagnosis to know where to start! A patient with IBS wouldn't necessarily benefit from a treatment designed for Chron's. A patient with autism wouldn't necessarily benefit from a therapy designed for BPD.
If you don't know what's going on with you, it can be exponentially harder to identify what resources you need to deal with it! And that makes sense!
There are lots of reasons to seek a diagnosis, don't listen to people who try to fight with you about it. It's your body.

I'd do anything to have a functional digestive system, except eat healthier and exercise more

What inspires the suggestions you write, if there's anything in particular that does?
i have VERY severe ibs that went untreated for 4 years, which i only recently got meds for. it caused my psychosis to return in full swing, sparking many new delusions and thoughts about my health, body chemistry, and ideas of medicine. ibs progresses (for better or worse) rather slowly and i felt that no one believed i was ill and in horrible pain from this disease- i felt very overlooked (i still do, but mostly for me/cfs reasons now).
having ibs drives most of my suggestions, haha,, i also kin dedf1sh and have an alter of her, so that also heavily influences everything!

You know, I just genuinely can't help but laugh about the self-manipulative aspect of living with IBS, specifically IBS-M.
Like, we (the royal we, I'm not gonna speak for everyone but this is true of my experience specifically) either eat stool-bulking foods or just avoid food entirely on days when we can't afford the time to poop. And then on our days off we treat ourselves with all the chocolate we've been restricting ourselves from both in an effort to feel something and to take advantage of having no other responsibilities for the day so we actually have time to sit and take a shit and allow ourselves the rest and self-care that we so desperately need but can't make the time for during the week.
Like I can't believe I purposely sit here and aim to give myself either constipation or diarrhea in order to work around the rest of my life and basically manipulate my digestive system for the sake of convenience, that sounds so fucked up 😂

i asked my psychiatrist if any meds i’m on could potentially exacerbate an ibs-c flare-up so i could bring that info to my pcp
she said my meds are dehydrating so that could be a factor (which was helpful)
but then she slyly smiled and leaned forward and said, “you know, people have told me that coffee helps. to make you poop.”
and i was like

My brain: okay we’ve got the whole day to ourselves, let’s get some stuff done! I’ve got so many projects I’ve been meaning to work on, now’s the time!
My body: No. Toilet time.

Don't assume anyone's diagnosis!
Glucose meter ≠ diabetes
Wheelchair ≠ paralysis
Tics ≠ tourettes
Nonverbal ≠ autistic
Thin/malnutrition ≠ eating disorder
Spacing out ≠ dissociation
Trouble focusing ≠ ADHD
Chronic illnesses and disabilities are more complex than what you see on the surface. Don't spread misinformation about others.

Ngl not entirely sure what's worse: having mad diarrhea thanks to eating a trigger food, or sitting up on the toilet half asleep at 1am with constipation and cramps.
This is tons of fun 😂
