Five of Swords 🗡️
In a show about people being trapped in self made coffins, Namami is one of the only characters that's able to step away when she realises how harmful the system is to her. This card isn't about that, though! Five of Swords is about trying to win an unnecessary battle, inevitable defeat, and trying really hard to stab a classmate. Don't mind the bloody nose, the scraped knee, the smudged mascara - she's going to keep fighting, longer than she needs to, no matter who gets hurt, as long as the sun keeps shining down just on her like a spotlight.
one of my pieces from a now cancelled zine. the other piece is here, go look at this kid having a chill day. drafts and notes below
NANAMI MY GIRL MY SILLY GOOSE i was sooo happy to get assigned a card about her and i REALLY wanted to do the concept justice!! but i was fighting with this the entire time lmao!! i think her pose and expression changed a thousand times and i couldn't figure out where to place the swords or what to do with the sky, i kept trying to switch to a more painterly style bc i hated the lines and ended up just wasting time.... nightmare!!! well anyway hope u like it 💁‍♂️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some things:
she's wearing anthy's rose bride tiara and the earrings that were given to utena by akio, which can only mean good things for her. she's winning the fight. she's gonna win it. (the sillhouette of her shorts is similar to tsuwabuki's middle school uniform shorts in an effort to make her look more childish)
touga was originally supposed to be lurking in the background but he was messing with the composition so i deleted him. then his sword was supposed to be impaling nanami's rose but i didn't like it there so i moved it. despite everything he's still in the scene but only if you have eyes and hearts that believe..........
the yellow sun and white clouds could be an egg 🍳 it could be 🥚 take my hand...
Tumblr media
i think the third thumbnail was actually my first attempt but i didn't like it very much... i liked the first one but wasnt sold on it tbh!! i still like the imagery of the tangled swords weighing her down and the little cuts and bandages on her hand, but idkkkkk. i just wouldn't have made it work lol so i guess i went for the most complicated one 💁‍♂️

kay so know how i’ve told you guys that my parents and i are watching stranger things together? Well, we’re in s4 and we finished s4 the other day i think, and like a week ago i asked them to tell me their top 3 fav characters and top 3 DUOS (not ships, DUOS) so- here’s how it went
Dad
Fav characters
- El (he loves her so much, thinks she’s a badass)
- Hopper (i feel like he’s in love with him, i catch him almost fucking giggling whenever hop is in a scene)
- Murray (thinks he’s super funny and kinda insane)
In general my dad loves insane, comedic and powerful characters
Fav duos
- Jopper (classic, kudos for that papa)
- Jancy (did NOT expect that one, he literally never talks about them)
- Milkvan (I ASKED HIM “Why??” AND HE SAID “aren’t they like- together?” AND I WAS LIKE “But dad- they have no chemistry” AND HE WAS LIKE “well i don’t know” AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA NOOOO DAD PLEASE)
Mum
Fav characters
- El (they both adore her, my mum thinks she’s very emotionally intelligent, badass and straightforward)
- Dustin (snfnjsksksks my mum LOOOOOVES dustin, he makes her laugh all the time and she adores how insane and intelligent he is)
- Will (YES HESYEYEYYEYSSYEYESSSSSSSSSSSS when i asked her she was like “he’s such a sensitive and gentle boy, and i think he cares about other so much but he also has a deep sadness about him”)
Fav duos
- Jopper (hoorayyy everyone loves jopper <3 mum said, and i quote, “hopper has the power to do things but he needs joyce to actually push him into doing things. He looks tough but joyce is the actual tough one” and um- yep pretty much)
- Jancy (AGAIN she doesn’t mention them that much EITHER so i was (pleasantly) surprised to hear that. She says that, like jopper, they balance each other out, Nancy is fierce and incredibly driven and intelligent, but she needs someone to calm her and also be a bit more realistic. She says that jonathan is a really melancholic but sweet person (byers siblings let’s go) and he knows all her right spots)
and
DRUM ROLLS PLEASE
- BYLER 🥳🥳🥳🥳 (When i tell you i GASPED I DIED I SCREAMED I CRIED-
She was the first to answer and she’d already said jopper and jancy and i was like “Mum? What’s the third one?” “What?” “I asked if you could tell me your 3 fav duos” “Well- you know, i think that two people who you can’t imagine one without the other are Mike and Will, like they are always together and they have a special bond”
The next day i asked her to tell me why she liked the duos and each of her fav characters and when it was time for byler she said “mike is super protective of will and will always leans on him and they care and understand each other so much”
UMMMMM DOES THAT REMIND YOU OF SOMETHING
DUDE ID NEVER SHOWN HER THE VIDEO WITH NOAH AND SHE SAID EXACTLY THAT, i could barely conceal my giddiness.
And then she said “but i don’t like how mike has been treating will the past seasons, he’s so mean” and then we talked a bit about milkvan and i said “yeah one of the plot-points they explore in s4 is mike’s inability to tell el he loves her” and she was like “but why? she’s his girlfriend??!” and i didn’t want to say more so i was like “ummm we’ll see i guess” “why are they even together if they can’t communicate?” GIRL THATS WHAT WE’VE BEEN SAYING-
AND SHE WANTS MILKVAN TO BREAK UP SO THAT EL CAN BE INDEPENDENT AAAAAAA)

The scene where Martyn and Ren kill Scott actually plays on my mind so much.
Well, first they killed Joel, and Scott lunged at them in retribution, so they kill him too, put him down to his red life. Scott tries to come back, to see if he can get any of his things, and he's spotted. Scott doesn't come close, but Martyn and Ren see him watching nearby, and they know he can't do anything, they already took his stuff, he can't fight them off, and he can't run. "Should we take him out of the series?" Ren asks, because it's not a matter of if they can. They know Scott is an easy kill. So they chase him, into the forest.
Martyn taunting Scott, "I wanna cuddle before you die", which is a terrifying thing to say. And then he brings up Jimmy, says he didn't want him to die? Whether this is a sincere sentiment is up for debate, but regardless, is such a thing to say while hunting Jimmy's grieving widow like prey. And something about the imagery of how Martyn just hovered around Scott and joked while waiting for Ren to kill him really felt like a mockery. And they slaughter Scott like an animal while he had no real means to fight back, because he would never have won and he would never have gotten away from them.
And Martyn doesn't sound remorseful. He doesn't sound as happy as he could, but he continues on with business and makes a joking comment about how Ren's "working". Ren, on the other hand, has a bit of a breakdown; "The blood is dripping into these eyes! I can't see, I've been blinded by my violence! ...We've become stone cold killers!". Martyn comforts him, briefly, but is quick to distance himself with "Well, you have (become a killer), I haven't really done that much. So, should we burn this stuff?" and then it's back to business.
And it gnaws at me how little Scott's death was about Scott. He was hunted and slaughtered for just being there, just because he was an easy mark. Martyn is pretty much remorseless. Ren shows remorse, but it's important to note that his guilt seems less focused around the actual person they just killed but rather is more for himself and the fact that he's "a killer" now. And then back to business. They burn Scott's stuff and don't think about him anymore.
Now, obviously, Ren and Martyn weren't obligated to feel bad for killing someone in a death game (although i think each final death meant more in a lot of ways in third life than any other series), I'm not saying it reflects poorly on them per say. But it is chilling to me how much of a non entity Scott was in this, how (other than martyn's personalized taunting while he was chasing scott which were just kinda cruel on their own) they barely seemed to think about the human person they were killing at all.
Scott easily could have been switched out for a literal actual deer in that scene and very little about the scene would need to be changed.
And I feel like that probably has something to do with Scott's fixation on personal agency (especially over how he dies), right?

touchstarved update thoughts (spoilers ahead)
aka how did Redspring think that springing a deletion of an origin people already enjoyed with this new one, was a good idea?
Because I cannot see this as being the step to make the third route more popular. That would be one of the only thoughts I have to completely remove an origin from the story.
Does anyone have any insight from Patreon maybe? Discord?
Not only did it seem to be a move out of nowhere, in all of the dev updates, I don't recall there being any kind of notice to any of the kickstarter backers that there would be a complete removal and overhaul of one of the backgrounds. It was also upsetting to learn this as soon as the update went live.
Especially for an origin that does not seem to fit with the setting in the slightest.
Somehow, we're expected to believe that someone who has been living in some forests, who just had a single person to rely on, has skills that are relevant in an urban environment? Or has any kind of context for this environment? Or even how to deal with others?
The Exile has lived away from civilization (like the bustling and most cutthroat city, Eridia the game takes place in) long enough to know all about Soulless behaviors (not that it helps when actually confronted with Soulless or gives any kind of insight) but somehow knows multiple languages (????) and can get a gut feeling on certain dangers (like that isn't a common skill.)
The other routes have clear lines of relation to major points in the story, the Hound seemed to at least know how to navigate the environment we would be dealing with and the monsters (Monsters, Soulless, and people) we would be interacting with in Eridia.
In comparison, nothing about the Exile synergizes with the setting, none of the skills seem applicable as written, and even worse, I do not believe for a second the Exile's competency or capacity in dealing with a city let alone The City, Eridia.
And the one time that the Exile's skills may come into play, trying to fight the Soulless, it's a bad end and a game over (I guess the death scene that was traded for Vere's former bad end.) The Exile seems to have no applicable skills for them to help themselves in the story, is somehow the MOST sheltered of the origins, and least suited to the current setting.
Was the Hound too savvy for the world? Did their skills overlap too much with Mhin's (even though that could have been corrected if not for now the Exile taking Mhin's specialization on Soulless) or Ais'/Leander's? Were they not sheltered enough?
I'm just so disappointed in being ambushed by the loss of my favorite origin and doubly so when in its place is something that should probably be avoided instead.

Rewatched Sorry About My Nan yet again, I have several more thoughts, mainly about Jaime. So I'm going to ramble! Again!
I've seen a lot of people point out his absence in the final scene, and say he's dead. But I don't understand why he would be. He seemed to have fallen for Ethel's manipulation by the end of the trials, even chanting "STAG" before Jim does, so why would she want him dead? (Unless the Jaime we see at the end of the third trial wasn't the real Jaime, and was actually Tom's Cabaret character (I'm calling him Emcee again), but that's another can of worms that we can deal with later)
I want to build on @cook-a-little-chicken 's theory a little, who says that the wedding was part of the trails, but also that Jaime had become part of the show. I just want to provide a little bit of evidence before we talk about that.
First of all, when Emcee asks for Jaime's name, he messes up and says "Michael". And secondly, he thinks that Emcee is Ethel. This is obviously a mistake on Sam's behalf, but in the context of the theory, it's pretty grim; Jaime is losing himself. He's seeing Ethel in places where she isn't, he's forgetting his own name, choosing a common one in hopes that he's right.
Emcee never introduces himself, never addresses himself - he may not remember ever having a name. Wilhelm introduces himself, maybe he's not been there as long as Emcee? Or maybe he chose Wilhelm because of the Wilhelm Scream - a classic sound effect many movies and TV shows use, and have been using since the 1950s. (I can't put into words why this makes sense to me and why I believe it's relevant, it just does)
Back to Jaime, he cared when Wilhelm "died", staying with him before getting dragged into the next trial. Maybe this was the first time in a while that somebody had shown them kindness? Maybe it was Wilhelm and Emcee who wanted to keep Jaime there.
And if anything, Jaime was the one to pass the trials, not Jim. Jaime was the one who wanted to save their friendship, choosing to not attack Jim, or admitting how he really felt about Jim's wedding. Jim, on the other hand, was ready to kill Jaime, not caring about the consequences.
Maybe Ethel doesn't have as much control over that world as we thought. She still controls everything, but still the inhabitants of that world have some sort of autonomy, they can go off script if they want (Wilhelm pushing himself in front of the sword, Emcee saying that he didn't like Jim and Jamie's performance). They decide who stays with them, who stays on stage, who watches the show. The audience of 403 may have become 404 by the end of the play.
Anyway, that's all I can coherently type before my mind melts, so.. (I say as if any of this makes sense)
Also! I have a theory/headcanon about how some of the longforms link together if anybody wants to know that let me know hehe :D

In your opinion, what makes Brynn fall in love with Casmyn?
I think Brynn does a pretty excellent and concise job of answering that herself during their Act 5 conversation--but I am NOT concise and would LOVE to yap about it in more detail so THANK YOU for giving me the excuse
I personally play Brynn as having been drawn to Casmyn from the start--like the start start, the before-the-game start. But through the opening acts, one thing that changes it from attraction to genuine romantic feelings is how getting to know Casmyn ends up subverting her expectations. Whether it's the fact that she trained to be point, the reason she stopped, her relief work on the shipping lanes, her kinship with Eastern Reef Krakes, her struggles with Ira's Plague, any and all of it, Brynn learns a lot about Casmyn in a short amount of time. Given her natural curiosity and passion for discovery, it makes sense to me that each new aspect of Casmyn she becomes privy to would carve out a new depth of affection. Complexity thrills her, and Casmyn has that in abundance.
Another piece is Casmyn's lived credo of kindness and service to others. My read is that Brynn left home with a somewhat lofty ideal of adventure for its own noble sake, but the way Casmyn frames the importance of a weaverband's point gives important context to her childhood dream. It gives her a why alongside the what. Adventure is for the world, service is for the people in it, and the way they go hand in hand is vital to the way Brynn views and carries herself. And Cas is a shining example.
Third: Casmyn's bravery. Brynn spends her days tussling with all sorts of creatures and constructs--she knows what it means and how it is to fight. And seeing Casmyn start to fight her obsessions and compulsions, start to fight to care for herself alongside everyone else? That's just as hard as, if not harder than, what Brynn does. And she respects Casmyn and is so proud of her for it--and examining why she herself tried to hard to help Casmyn get to that point would absolutely spark a realization or two.
Their personalities work well together, too. While they do clash sometimes, there's a middle state where Brynn keeps Casmyn light and reassured, and Casmyn keeps Brynn grounded and humble. I'm an absolute sucker for a ship wherein one is a constant touchstone for the other, and I do think that for them, it works both ways--Casmyn as Brynn's physical touchstone and place for rest, and Brynn as Casmyn's emotional touchstone and anchor. Part of this is inherent to their dynamic as the band's point and quatermaster (akin to the dynamic between a band's smith and enchanter.....AHEM....), but for them it's grooved even deeper.
......which leads up to the confession scene.
But if that was all a given and you're asking what inspires Brynn to finally actually Say It? Well. Self-indulgently--I like to think that the resolution to Dahm and Sola's issues put some of those final pieces into perspective for Brynn. The weight of having someone and something worth fighting for--the importance of communication and letting someone know how you feel in explicit terms, especially when tomorrow is scary. She's felt it for longer than she's known it, but now that she does, she has to say it.

how do you think THW should've been like? or the ending of HTTYD?
Well for starters no Hidden World, no Light Fury and NO Grimmel. I think HTTYD3 should’ve focused on Hiccup and Toothless’s growth, their world and actually BUILDING that new world they said they would. Yes expanding on their world and its conflicts and actually changing the world.
-If they were gonna make a point of the threats they’re facing maybe KEEP USING DRAGO? Like they were supposed to. Like where did his armada go? Maybe they did scatter, if u wanna explore other warlods maybe have them work together and actually challenge Hiccup. INTERACT with him.
-I like that Hiccup continued to raid dragon hunters and free dragons, keep that and expand on that. Again, make Hiccup actually interact with Warlords, challenge their viewpoints, show his power, and establish order in a much organic way instead of straight up RUNNING AWAY FROM EVERYTHING. Stupid ass migration pisses me off. Make Berk a base yes, but like in RTTE (which YES I WILL GIVE MERIT on the world building stuff), have some allies or maybe have Hiccup have examples of ppl that HAVE changed like Eret as his starting point. No overpopulation problem cause that’s stupid in the first place since dragons have different habitats, they have different islands, Berk being overpopulated is a problem created sorely for this movie and I hate it cause logically it makes NO SENSE for them to put them all in one place. The only dragons that live of Berk should’ve been the ones that bonded with their vikings. Yes they would be a lot but as HTTYD2 SHOWED US, it was never a problem cause they adapted in an organic way.
-Toothless’s arc about “needing” a mate is not necessary. I think if they wanted to explore his character more, they should’ve written him AND HICCUP (since ya know… “friendship of a lifetime 🙄) as more mature and struggling with the issues left in the second movie, like the trauma (surprised they completely went over it like nothing affected them) of losing stoick, like ACTUALLY, would’ve liked to see them actually explore other islands, yes recuing dragons and Toothless actually acting like an alpha, Berk’s “overpopulation” idea would he scratched, GRIMMEL and his stupid dragon killer ass also not existing. If u want to keep exploring maybe give a much more believable reason for Night Furies disappearing? Maybe they didn’t disappear and maybe if u wanna connect with the books, have them disperse or hiding somewhere for a believable reason instead of “one dude killed them all with no explanation for no compelling reason other than he’s a baddy”.
Start with NOT making Toothless a horny dog and sad because he’s the only one left (he never cared before about that) and maybe if u wanna challenge his and Hiccups relationship, make him discover his species or family or flock of Night Furies and have a conflict of interest between that and him being an Alpha in Berk.
-If they wanna tackle the “dragons are wild creatures” theme (which again unnecessary given the previous 2 movies and series), then Toothless can be a Hiccup parallel in that regard and bring wild Dragons that hate humans into this and Hiccup’s cause, bringing their world together like they were supposed to. THAT would give Toothless FAR more agency and character than him “choosing” a mate over Hiccup ever will. There NO NEED AT ALL to separate them, that was SORELY Dean’s decision because he wanted so badly to connect the books to the movies for no other reason other than cheap tear-jerks. Like it was NEVER a point of the movies to end with “dragons disappearing at the end” until THAT ONE LAST SCENE in THW…
-Don’t make Berk isolated, cause to me that was a huge as mistake. The series do such a great job at portraying the Archipelago, its conflicts, how Hiccup handles those in this new world he’s trying to build, how he made enemies and believable allies. In the third movie that could’ve all been brought together in a nice bow. (Not necessarily saying address the shows alltogether if u dont want to) but make a STATEMENT about the Archipelago’s position in this world. Cause in HTTYD3 everything seems so isolated, disperse, there’s no sense of world, no setting. Hiccup’s map is obsolete cause there are no PLACES to actually go. We don’t even know where Grimmel and the warlords ARE or where they came from. Unlike HTTYD2, we get a sense of emptiness in the world. I think the series at least gives us a sense of world building that THW lacks.
-Change the themes altogether, HTTYD was ALWAYS about bringing worlds together, not romantic love. It was about sacrifice, maybe up the stakes a lil bit? Show what actual war looks like, like in HTTYD2, maybe have some casualties but don’t make those weaken Hiccup’s resolve, cause if his DAD’S DEATH didn’t make him stop, then nothing will. Him and Toothless were relentless and they should’ve stayed that way.
-Give VALKA something to do instead of being a glorified vigilante (which could’ve been literally ANYONE ELSE in that role and nothing would’ve changed), Have HER help Hiccup, she believes in his cause, she told him he was the one to bring their world together, she came BACK TO BERK cause that was the future of humanity.
-Give the whole ass cast more time with their bonded dragons, have them be examples, have Astrid be the one that comes up with plans and war tactics, have her support Hiccup as chieftess, bring the people together.
Well I guess that would end been my ideal HTTYD3… have it actually conclude the whole franchise like it was supposed to instead of gaslighting me into thinking Hiccup was always wrong for having “dangerous thoughts” about peace…….. like god what the actual hell…

incredibly late reblog (still getting used to how that aspect of tumblr works ;v;) but this is a really cool analysis! we love how you broke down Jotaro's development over time - discussing the details of writing characters is so fun 💕
the "attitude"/"outlook" analogy has some similarities with the underlying ideas behind our headcanons - though we'd say the main factors we attributed to Jotaro's change over time are "functionality," "self-confidence," and "stress" - the first two decreasing over time while the third increases
⭐ side tangent: i think attitude is a really interesting topic when it relates to Jotaro, as I feel like a lot of people have the perspective of "Jotaro's attitude = bad." while i think that's a very understandable and sensible conclusion given the way that Jotaro was written in canon - after looking at the inspirations Araki cited for the character - my perspective is that Joot's attitude wasn't solely intended to be a negative/off-putting thing; it was also supposed be a positive expression of Jotaro's genuine self-confidence and bravery (the writing we got in the finalized manga/anime just does a terrible job of trying to show the positive side). if we take the angle of "Jotaro's attitude = how self-confident/brave he is," the loss of Jotaro's attitude with age has some somber implications for how the guy is feeling later in life ;-;
Jotaro's evolution, while tragic, is really fun to explore in writing (love us some ANGST >:D) - we start thinking about the little details that nudged his personality and choices along, slowly chipping away at 3taro to eventually form 6taro, and that's how we developed a lot of our headcanons ^^ This thought process has even inspired some "missing scene" stories set between canon events (including one we might be posting soon 👀)
beyond writing stories set between canon events, the reason the concept of Jotaro's evolution is important to us is because our main story project, JJBI, is based around the idea of Jotaro's development getting wildly disrupted shortly after Part 3 (and EoH) -
what if his stubbornness and destructive tendencies were challenged by someone who could match his strength? what if his subtler qualities got recognized by someone who saw beauty in them? what would happen if most of the key influences in his canon development were suddenly far out of reach? would 3taro still become the 4taro, 5taro, etc. that we all know and...love? loathe? pity?
and if the answer is "no"... then who would he be? ...would he still be Jotaro?
idk if JJBI will actually turn out that deep, it's a silly crossover story, but that's the underlying philosophy XD
Do you think each Jotaro from each part of JJBA that he appears in is different? Do you think if part 4 and part 5 jotaro were in the same room they’d act differently from one another? (I personally hc since we get little to no interactions with joot in part 5 that he’s a cocky little bitch don’t ask why)
Absolutely, haha XD
Just as we aren't the same person we were in highschool or kindergarten, we think that Jotaro has definitely changed as he's gotten older.
In our headcanon: - 3taro is the most aggressive and immature, but (perhaps surprisingly) has the most optimistic/innocent outlook on life. - 4taro is more mature/less aggro but his optimism is getting worn down from all the "Enemy Stand BS" and familial dysfunction he keeps having to put up with. - 5taro has started withdrawing from people he cares about, accepting the pessimistic outlook that his life is definitely going to the dogs (his relationships with wife and Jolyne being at the worst they were pre-divorce). - 6taro is lonely, depressed, regretful, and exhausted - making him seem incredibly calm/demure compared to his younger counterparts.
If put in the same room together, they'd probably get into a lot of arguments ^^' They would likely develop into even more separate individuals as the result of such an encounter.
We have also headcanon'ed that not just the different part Jotaros are unique from each other, but the different media Joots too!
All of this was inspired by the work of former JoJo YouTuber "A Scrub for Hire" - whose comedy skits introduced us to the idea of the different Jotaros coexisting
Two years ago, we even made this little chart of different Jotaros and how they compare to each other (bear in mind this was done with little to no knowledge of some of these mediums, like the OVA, and a lot of our headcanons have changed since then)
Tumblr media
Related to this, just as a group of lions is called a "pride," we have decided that a group of Jotaros is called a "jury"

okay AJ thank you for these tags bc what tf i was SO CONFUSED:
#I need to figure this out because if you’re gonna bring my home girl Brontë into this party then #by this logic it would imply Wenzhou’s mom was Cathy or is Wenzhou Nelly Dean which is it writers #since when though with all due respect was this a thing #Linton couldn’t read or write or count btw and Cathy’s daughter (his cousin) kindly taught him and Heathcliff was like *gets dragged away*
i watched ep 15 with a friend who hasn't read the novel and they were like, "but i thought jane eyre was the one with the atticwifing?" and i literally responded "..." like a danmei character, bc i had no idea how to explain "this isn't even the main plot of wuthering heights, none of what's happening onstage at this moment makes sense." also, they asked me if the dialogue was actually from wuthering heights and i had to say "not as far as i can tell, it seems to be some kind of weird summary but only of the middle third of events?"
like…okay first of all, was there even a catherine? i didn't see her, WHERE WAS CATHERINE (or maybe she's that spotlit figure in black, at the beginning?). instead everything seemed to be all about isabella, which, okay, i guess she's a better equivalent to fei du's mom, since heathcliff doesn't love her. maybe the drama is trying to find a way to show us visually that lwz is figuring out what happened with fei chengyu and fei du's mother, for some reason without just having fei du tell him. possibly bc they can't have the doorknob-balancing book 5 "shixiong are you planning to use torture to extort a confession" scene? so instead, wenzhou goes to a terrible play.
isabella does not get atticwifed, though—she runs away bc she's so annoyed by heathcliff's obsession, has linton, and then dies of plot. if heathcliff atticwifes ANYONE, it's linton, i guess, who is supposed to be fei du? which makes wenzhou…cathy. or the other way around? but it's not like fei chengyu is insisting they get married.
finally it's really odd and out-of-character for fei du to envision his horrible father as some kind of romantic antihero. there's absolutely nothing about fei chengyu to make us think of heathcliff; fei chengyu was incapable of love, so he couldn't have had a catherine, which i guess is why she didn't really feature in much of that—
UGH i'll have to rewatch it. the whole thing is a dog's breakfast tbqh and i can't believe after all of us reading five other novels for mo du, now we're out here adding a sixth bc of jitd. some of us have jobs—plus as you say, "since when with all due respect was this a thing"???

these lines hit different when you read utena as transmasc
#i mean the first one is really awful regardless.#pretty sure i read somewhere that the words akio uses means something along the lines of 'you really should remain a child'#as opposed to 'you really should remain the gender that you are.' which speaks to his whole thing about keeping these kids from growing up#and there's So Much in anthy's line even without hypothetical misgendering#anyway the au where utena has already transitioned by the time he gets to ohtori is really good#and i of course have lots of headcanons about post-ohtori utena and gender#but i've been thinking about one where he's actively questioning while he's there and is not out to anyone.#and i guess not a lot would really change but akio's attempt at making utena more feminine would have a whole other layer of awful to it#and unfortunately i think in this scenario the first person he would come out to would be akio. which is so sad#like maybe it could be anthy but idk. i think it would be something he'd be apprehensive to be open about with her#(in the show utena does tend to be more vulnerable with akio than with anthy. at least the vulnerability with him comes first.#he's her go-to person for advice in the black rose arc and utena doesn't really begin opening up to anthy like that until the third arc)#maybe i should write something for this au. i can see it so clearly.#utena talking about his confusing gender feelings in one of those black rose scenes in the planetarium#and akio doing that thing where he sounds supportive and helpful but absolutely isn't.#that fake sympathy that's actually really patronizing and condescending and dismissive but subtly enough that utena doesn't realize it#and THEN the contrast when utena finally talks to anthy about it and she empathises by talking about her own confusing gender feelings#(transfem anthy realness !!!!!)#oh wow i did not mean to write so much in the tags#revolutionary girl utena#utena tenjou#my posts

I don't care about Moash, just Stormlight's writing, which by proxy means I must care about Moash.
