summary : you start your first day at the cafe, and learn of a certain bandaged barista, unknowingly kidnap his cat, but it was somewhat worth it when he and another barista come over to the cafe the next day searching for his ‘beloved’ cat and thinks that one of your friends stole it as revenge.

AUTHORS NOTE : hai !! first chapter is done, and i had so much fun writing this. unfortunately, i did struggle at some parts, like the rent thing and had no idea what to do for the plot😭 so, let’s all just act like its a good excuse and its just for the plot !! and characters might be ooc, and unfortunately for everyone, i highkey dgaf and this is for fun so if u come in my ask box to say “omg this is so ooc!!” YES I KNOW GET OUT OF MY ASKS I KNOW anyway if u do wanna be tagged in future updates, just lmk i will gladly tag you :3

GENERAL WARNINGS : reader is afab / fem, she/her pronouns will be used when needed. cussing (obviously), sometimes i will specify outfits but you can just imagine your outfit any other time lol , college stuff, substance abuse mention in other chapters, self harm mentions at times (dazai), dazais siblings r elise and yumeno, and oda, mori his dad.. the slowest slow burn of all of the slow burns, rare sex jokes because i can not resist, and just typical dazai behavior .. also, it has been awhile since i have written like this, so i might be bad at first so. um. ignore that.. + some time skips so we can get to the good part :) tried to speed this chapter up so we can get to the better part of the fic ! anyway, have fun reading!

you had set a routine for yourself once you left the comfort of your home for college; sleep, wake up at 5am to get ready, go to class at 6:30am, study after class, go to more classes, go back to your shared apartment around 4:30pm, relax a bit until 10:45, sleep, and repeat. you were not planning on changing that at all, until your landlord decided to up your rent, and you were forced to work with your friend, chuuya, who was working at a local cafe. originally, he had been paying the rent, and you paid the bills with money your parents gave to you as a little startup, and you could not pay rent with the money, and did bills until now.

you had felt bad for him once the rent raised, especially since the rent was now almost 1,950?? you possibly couldn’t let him pay by himself! so, you got a job at the cafe he worked at with your friend group.

and, you seriously regretted that after seeing how chaotic it was..

⌢ time : 4:30 pm . ⌣

you and chuuya were walking to the cafe after class. the heels of both of your shoes clicked against the pavement of the sidewalk, the sound of your voices quietly echoed through the air of the already loudness of the campus, other students chatting away and the sound of the occasional laugh registered in your mind.

“you’ll be fine, the cafe is a really nice place. you’ll do great, i’m sure.” chuuyas voice suddenly came through, breaking the momentarily silence you two shared for a bit.

you never really worked in a cafe. a fast food place? sure. but a cafe was new, but you knew everything since your mother owned a cafe, and you sometimes came over and watched her work. but this was new, you are ACTUALLY working at one, and doing all the things you saw your mother do.

“i know i’ll do fine, it’s just new, y’know?” you reply to him, but you were grateful for his assurances either way. a small hum left him after you spoke, and you could feel him offer you a small look. “just don’t stress about it, yeah? if you need anything, i can help you.”

after alot of talking, you two had started walking out of campus grounds and walked down the sidewalk towards the cafe, and you could see the little building in the distance after a few minutes of walking.

⌢ time : 5:39 pm . ⌣

luckily, there weren’t any customers since apparently, customers rarely came in at this time unless it was game day for the college, and then the cafe was packed since it did have a tv where they could watch the game.

but that wasn’t all that important, you were just glad that you didn’t need to deal with ‘bitchy’ customers. chuuyas words, not yours.

you were in the middle of putting on your apron as your friends spoke, their voices overlapping the faint sound of music playing from the speakers.

“god, i hate those people. they constantly try to one-up us with their deals and purposefully got a bigger tv for game day. you know, one of those days, i’ll break that tv in front of them..” chuuya grumbled, his narrowed eyes focused on the cafe that was actually across the road. if it was not obvious that he hated the cafe across the street, then the look in his eyes was definitely an obvious sign.

“oh, calm down. it’s not like they do it on purpose.” higuchi spoke, rolling her eyes at his complaint while she wrote on some of the paper cups, something their cafe made them do to show that it was a welcoming spot or whatever the manger said. “oh, they definitely do it on purpose. have you seen how smug they looked when they got that tv? what bitches.” tachihara spoke up, standing next to chuuya as they both glared at the cafe across the street.

“aren’t you all being dramatic? it surely can’t be that bad.” you eventually spoke after getting your apron on and went to help higuchi, who gave a grateful look and continued. “she’s right, it’s not that bad, you’re all being dramatic.” higuchi agreed.

chuuya and tachihara glared at you and higuchi in sync, the two boys clearly judging you both. “you two have no idea what those idiots are like. even in class, they’re so bitchy. i am unfortunately cursed and have a class with the freaky bandaged one.” chuuya sighed, looking back at the cafe across the street.

you sighed, shaking your head at your best friends words. “you say that like it’s a bad thing, he might be nicer than you think.” you reply, trying to be optimistic since chuuya did have the habit of being a little dramatic with his opinions of people. “chuuyas right, the bandaged one or whatever his name is, is weird. dude looks like a mummy of sorts.” tachihara had spoken up, also looking back at the cafe.

chuuya immediately scowled once he saw some of the workers from the cafe across the street walking up to their own cafe, a few of them in a group as they started opening up their cafe.

you looked up and watched, examining the small group of people who seemed to go at the same college. there was a blonde man, a woman with dark hair that had her hair in a messy bob of sorts, a younger guy who looked to be a first year with white hair, one with brown hair and glasses, and another guy with brown hair that had bandages around him.

“what are their names?” you whisper to higuchi, not wanting to interrupt chuuya and tachiharas glaring. “hm? oh, the blonde is kunikida, the woman is yosano, the one with white hair is atsushi, the one with brown hair and glasses is ranpo, and the bandaged one that chuuya hates is dazai.” the blonde woman whispered back, to which you nodded in response.

“they seem nice, why is that they’re hated?” you ask again. you were confused, the group seemed genuinely nice, so you had no idea why most of your friends seemed to hate the cafe. “oh, chuuya got into a fight with dazai a few weeks ago and their cafe and ours seemed to have a war of sorts ever since.” she had whispered back, shrugging as she continued to write on cups.

ah, you had heard about that. chuuya had come back in the evening one night, and said he got into a fight with some ‘idiot from class that looks like hes cosplaying a mummy.’ .. you didn’t know why you didn’t realize that until now, but it made sense since chuuya had an obvious grudge.

⌢ time : 8:27 pm . ⌣

you and chuuya were now walking home after work, it had been a nice day, the cafe wasn’t that busy, and it was a good first day. now, you were walking home.

but, you stumbled upon a pretty, somewhat fluffy black cat, who seemed to be freezing in the low temperatures of the night. you were immediately going to help it as chuuya followed.

you looked back at chuuya as you sat on the pavement of the sidewalk, then at the cat and quickly took your jacket off. “what are you doing?” chuuya quickly asked as you slowly approached the cat, smiling at how the cat was snuggling up to your hand. “i’m not letting a cat freeze up in the cold. i would feel horrible if i left this poor thing in the cold.” you reply to him, slowly getting the cat to come closer.

the cat was the sweetest thing ever, you could hear small purrs come from it as you gently pet it, but you quickly wrapped it in your jacket and slowly picked it up, smiling at how it easily allowed it. the cat was obviously accustomed to humans, and trusted them easily, so it was pretty easy to pick it up.

“come on, we’re going to the store first and buying it some food until we figure out what to do with it.” you suddenly announced, already walking in the direction of the local store. chuuya sighed, already knowing he couldn’t stop you when you were determined and simply followed. “you’re insane. what are we going to do with a cat we found on the street? we can’t keep it!” he spoke, crossing his arms as he walked next to you.

“well, we’re not keeping it forever, dumbass! just until we figure out what to do with it or some missing pet poster pops up.” you remark back, a small huffy sigh left you as you continued your walk, and eventually made it to the store.

the two of you walked into the store, both of you offering polite smiles to the workers who greeted you both. you and chuuya walked to the pet aisle, and went to the shelf of cat food as you held the purring cat in your arms.

“do we get it wet food or?” chuuya whispered to you, you shrugged and just decided to go with wet food and dry food. you were sure wet food was the answer, but you wanted to be safe and not buy something the cat wouldn’t eat. “get both, just in case, y’know?”

chuuya hummed in response, grabbing a small can of wet food and a small bag of dry food before you two walked to the shelf checkout area. you watched how he scanned the items and put them into a plastic bag, and then decided to spare him of trying to find his card and offered to pay (more like forced..). “grab my card from my bag, it’s in the second pocket.” you spoke to him, smiling at the sigh he gave and went to your crossbody bag.

he went through the pockets, looking for the card in the pocket you said it would be in, and after a few moments, he eventually found it and grabbed it, and went to pay. and after a few seconds, he returned the card and closed your bag, then went to grab the plastic bag with the cat food.

after a few minutes, you two were now walking home with the cat and the cat food. you ignored the cold air biting at your hands, and you were suddenly grateful that you were wearing a warm, long sleeved shirt since you definitely didn’t want to get sick from this. but the cat definitely seemed warm.. lucky.

“what are we going to do with the cat when we go to work?” you suddenly ask chuuya, remembering that you actually had to work tomorrow and you didn’t necessarily trust a cat you picked up from the street to be alone in your house. “we can give it to koyou? she’s not busy and can watch the cat while we work.” he suggested with a shrug, knowing that his older sister, koyou, could probably help.

you nodded in agreement, knowing koyou could be trusted rather than all of your other friends. “yeah, we can go to koyous house before class, and after work, we can pick up the cat.” you agree.

⌢ time : 6:15 am . ⌣

you and chuuya were currently walking down the hallway of a familiar apartment building, walking to a door that had the number ‘629’ , the same apartment that chuuyas older sister lived in. as you held the cat with one arm, your free hand went to the door, giving a few knocks.

after a few moments, you and chuuya could hear the door lock unlocking, and the door opened to show a woman with redish hair, and was still wearing her home clothes. “oh, hello. did you two need something?” she spoke up softly, giving a polite smile, and a curious look.

you both immediately smiled back at the woman before you. “hey, koyou. we’re wondering if you can watch this cat for the day, and we’ll pick it up after work?” you ask her, seeing how she immediately nodded in agreement and you handed the cat over. “sure, i can watch it for the day. just get to all of your classes, yes?”

you mentally sighed in relief, mostly because you weren’t really expecting her to be that nice, and she seemed to be in a good mood. “thank you, koyou.” chuuya spoke before you, giving his sister a grateful smile before she nodded and closed the door with the cat in her hold.

well, at least you got that out of the way..

⌢ time : 5:08 pm . ⌣

you and all of your friends were at work, you and chuuya had arrived first, then tachihara, then higuchi. all of your other friends were busy with night classes, so they worked the morning shift, while you and the others worked the late afternoon to night shift.

anyways. you and chuuya were in the back, simply talking while chuuya got a smoke break, but then, you two heard yelling from the front. you immediately went inside while chuuya shortly followed after taking a big hit of his cigarette before putting it out, and quickly followed after you.

the moment you walked in, you were witnessing the weirdest scene ever. dazai and yosano were at the counter, talking to tachihara.

“i already told you, i didn’t see your stupid cat nor did i take it!” tachihara yelled back at dazai, who was looking at tachihara as if he killed his whole family. “bullshit, i know one of you took it as revenge!” dazai replied quickly, clearly unhappy and was certain one of you took it.

you and chuuya walked up to the counter, and chuuya crossed his arms as he interrupted. “what’s wrong now, dazai? why the hell are you yelling at my coworkers?” chuuya spoke, glaring at dazai, who focused his attention to you and chuuya as yosano sighed quietly and just watched.

“i know one of you took my cat, there’s nobody else who would steal it but you and your idiotic friends.” he easily replied to chuuya. the brunette took out a paper and waved it in chuuyas face, showing a missing poster of a fluffy, black cat. the same black cat you saved from the cold so it didn’t freeze to death.

well, fuck. you didn’t really mean to steal this guys cat, and the cat didn’t have a collar, so you just sort of assumed it was a stray.

you and chuuya immediately shared a look, before chuuya gave a cocky smile, and before you could speak and admit you had the cat, chuuya cut in and looked back at dazai. “nah, didn’t see your stupid cat anywhere. but i did see another cafe down the road take in a cat that sort of looks like that inside.” chuuya lied through his teeth, shrugging as if it was nothing.

dazai narrowed his eyes, shoving the paper back in his pocket, keeping eye contact the whole time. “osamu, if they said they didn’t take the cat, then they didn’t. no need to be this protective over it.” yosano suddenly spoke, then dazai sighed and softened, realizing he was being dramatic, but he couldn’t help it. the cat was the only thing making him survive the hell that was college.

“fine, if you say that you don’t have it, then you don’t. but if i find out that you or any of your friends stole it and you’re lying to my face, i will—” he spoke, but you quickly cut him off, and decided to just go with chuuyas lie since you two were way too deep into this now. “is it really necessary to threaten? how about this; if we ever see the cat, then we can come find it and give it to you, personally.” you had cut in with a polite smile, noticing how he looked at you, his mood changing immediately as he saw an opportunity to be playful with someone.

dazai smiled, suddenly perking up and becoming all nice. “is that so? personally? how sweet.” he replied with a hint of playfulness. chuuya immediately looked at dazai with a narrowed gaze, wondering how the fuck dazais mood changed.

you, tachihara and chuuya were both confused on how dazais mood quickly changed, how it was like he changed in a blink of an eye. first, he was all stressed and frustrated, then, he was suddenly cheerful and playful? what the fuck?

“yes, personally. now, if you and your friend don’t mind, we actually want to work.” chuuya scoffed, rolling his eyes, and dazai looked back at chuuya, seemingly calmed down and shrugged. “fine, then. enjoy your 4 customers.” he said with a mocking grin, then turned around, grabbed yosano and dragged her out the cafe.

tachihara watched the two leave the cafe in disdain, before the bell atop the door rang, signaling the door being opened and closed. “god, what a fucking mood swing that was.. jesus, that guy needs to get checked out and put on some pills.” tachihara mumbled, before going back to setting the coffee machine up.

chuuya was happily smiling once dazai and yosano left, clearly glad that dazai was finally out the shop. that was something he was grateful for. “we are not giving him back that cat until the end of the month, i must drag out his misery.” chuuya whispered to you with a happy sounding sigh, finally finding something to hold over dazai.

you sighed quietly, realizing that you couldn’t do anything since you just lied to that guys face about his cat, and was now holding the thing hostage. “we are so fucked.” you mumbled quietly under your breath.

you had no idea how you will keep your mouth shut about it, but it was too late now to go back..

In all of the amazing character analyses and studies that I have seen done for Akutagawa's character in BSD, something I really wish people talked about more is how deeply, deeply, lonely he is. I think his antisocial tendencies are often played off for laughs but re-reading the Beast spin-off recently made me realize exactly how much personal loss Akutagawa has had and how tragically it has wounded his concept of friendship. There is no shortage of examples of him treating people poorly and pushing them away and yet, despite this, we are given canonical evidence that he actually values friendship very highly and is angry and frustrated about his own lack of friends.

Most people interpret his little rant in the elevator to Atsushi from the end of season 2 to be primarily about Dazai but the line specifically about how Atsushi was blessed with friends has always stuck out to me primarily because of how angry Akutagawa is when he says it. He's furious when he's listing what he perceives as the gifts that Atsushi was given but does not fully appreciate. This used to strike me as odd since Akutagawa is generally seen keeping others at arm's length and never letting anyone get too close to him but re-reading Beast gave me a better perspective on this particular behavior in a way that broke my heart.

And while Beast is an AU of the original series, the backstory given for Akutagawa is remarkably similar to the one given in the Heartless Curr short story. What this shows us is that Akutagawa cared very deeply about the kids he was protecting and hints that the infamous massacre which eventually led him to Dazai was not his first experience losing the people close to him. Loss is something he is all too familiar with and what happens with the mercenaries can be thought of as an inevitable ending from Akutagawa's point of view but can also be seen by him as a personal failing.

To Akutagawa, friends are people he lets down and then die. Again and again and again. His resistance to letting people in is his own way of coping with the pain of loss he has experienced time and time again whenever he has let himself get close enough to call someone else his friend. So, yeah, he's angry at Atsushi who he sees as taking his own friends for granted and still wallowing in misery because, deep down, he wants what Atsushi has in many more ways than just Dazai's acknowledgment. Akutagawa can see that Atsushi is still unhappy even though he has friends by his side and misinterprets this as carelessness. In getting this mad, he is saying that, if he had Atsushi's friends, it would be enough to make him happy in a way that it is not doing for Atsushi.

It's no tremendous analytical feat to state that Akutagawa's hatred of Atsushi is actually just misdirected hatred of himself. Still, this interaction is certainly just one more example of this for the books.

Akutagawa pushes people away to keep himself and others safe but, in the end, this hasn't protected anyone, it has just made him lonely which only serves to make him even angrier than he has the words to admit.

All of this long and probably incoherent babble to say, Akutagawa is desperate for someone who won't just up and die on him to finally stay by his side and take the pain away. If I wasn't already sure that he'd already met this person, I'd wish that he soon would.

➼ 😊 A fic that made you smile on a bad day

Soccer Ball, More Like Sock Her Balls by grandmascokebag, MystK04. I cannot describe this fic in a way that does it justice. It's a Jujutsu Kaisen modern: no powers AU that is so fucking ridiculous at every point and turn that it is impossible to not laugh. It's pure crack for the sake of crack and I love it to PIECES. I think they did genuinely upload on some rough days of mine by coincidence, and it is sufficient to say that I was cracking up even when I saw the EMAIL for the update. I mean, really. Look at the title. Look at who WROTE IT. The authors have such a talent at being stupid and funny and ridiculous in every single line just for the hell of it. And, you know, it actually DOES have a plotline. It just has some sidequests along the way.

It's just a silly crack fic that hasn't been updated in half a year. But I sitll have hope that one day the authors are gonna come around and add one more chapter. That would certainly put a smile on my face. Maybe they'll do it when I'm having a bad day again...

➼ 📆 A fic you’d re-read 10 years from now

... When I Awake by wildflowertea. NO I am not just saying this because you wrote it. I am saying this because this fic literally changed my perspective on life, death, and suffering.

Not to get into my feelings too much, but I do experience some pretty crazy mood swings every couple of months. I will be doing well, phenomenally so, and then I will collapse and burn out of nowhere. I don't talk about my swings publicly anymore because that's just not what I really do; if I need a place or space to rant, I have friends and family. I no longer feel the need to air out my current/active grievances and struggles with my mental health and body on the Internet. I also think it would be weird considering what people follow me for (which is, decidedly, not for my mental health journey).

But anyway, the point is: I am familiar with depression and general angst and how it affects me. I have lived life as much as the next person. I know that, in a decade from now, I may have forgotten some of the lessons I learned when I originally read your fic. Beyond being an amazingly well-written, well-structured fic, you literally changed my life. When I write, I aspire to craft something as elegantly as you did. So, if I am being completely honest, this is the fic I imagine I will be crawling back to in a decade from now. I will have new life experiences, new outlooks, and I imagine I will want to see how that compares to the fic you finished two years ago (GOD it's been two years already?)

For anyone unaware: this is a Bungou Stray Dogs fic where Dazai is the spirit of his comatose body after a failed(?) suicide attempt, and Chuuya is a musician who just lost his father and is thus taking a complete detox from the world itself by trapping himself in (unknowingly) Dazai's old apartment to wrap himself in his pain and misery. Neither are in a good place at the beginning of the fic. But, somehow, they come out quite alright. I cried 3 times reading this, if it gives any of you any sort of clue as to how emotionally this impacted me.

(The entire meeting with Death is my favorite scene in the entirety of this story, if that wasn't obvious. It made me feel. It made me feel a LOT.)

at this point dazai was already very ready to quit being an idol. so to try and cover up the oda scandal she leaks some pictures of her kissing some people earlier in her career and some mysterious ginger lady....... she also sets up a bomb under one of the agencys cars to really blow everything over.

chuuya is not happy with this. very not happy with this.

but, now she has the freedom to do whatever she wants with her music. so she gose full pop-punk rock<3<3<3<3 and also this is where stupid animatic make their way into my plan. remember the song black sheep cover by lady in schot pilgram, this is one song chuuya makes when she hits it off on her own. she also gets really popular when she moves to pop punk rock

okay dont actually have much else planned with this- just that 2-3 years later dazai publishes a book and its a crazy best seller. talking about the inner workings of the industry and is working on her next books. mabey publishes another in like a year. i am not fully sure timeline-

the dazai leaving the agensy and car bomb really give off breaking up vibes to chuuya til a hose soaked dazai is in front of her door. not even fake rain just blondie(kunikida) got mad at her plan and desided to try soaking the prick. i dont think they immediately start dating again, but they do at some point. and is secret dating ya.

dazai just shows up to some of chuuyas shows? its a running gag that dazai will somehow get on stage and fuck with chuuya. or mess with the lights. or just anything to make a lil ruckus. the media has no clue how dazai keeps ending up at them at the right place and right time.

so! one time 4-5-6 years after dazai leaves the company and a few years of them dating again, dazai sorta.. stops coming to the shows for a little? like seems to be super busy with new book or smth.

How, and why is this not used in fics? Like it's such a delicate, and domestic part of their dangerous lives. Seeing Doppo, and the President in a non work environment with them being so... Idk? More casual than usual? Mini Doppo is openly ranting about his misfortunes with Dazai, and Fukuzawa feeling pretty bad about putting this responsibilities onto him. He knows Doppo has his pride as an agency member, and would never back down from such a challenge. Their student–mentor relationship is so dear to me.

Harbinger of misfortune Dazai? Sounds like a good Yokai!au title for him. He'd haunt the agency members after running away from his responsibilities as a Yokai to bring misfortune upon humans, only to stumble upon an albino boy while on the run. The albino has great cursed energy, if he didn't know any better, he would've believed that he was at least apart Yokai. Turns out this kid was but a middle schooler that attends the same school as that 'detective club', and decides to stick with him for a while. Cue the misadventures of the misfortune Yokai, and an unknowning Yokai of mysterious nature. >:D

Okay, if you don't know me, Hi I'm Mioshitomioka (Mio or Clover depending on the platform) I write fanfiction about random things be it oc's in JJK or BSD {or like any other anime} or about characters in those anime's relationships and how they go about life.

The most popular ones I have (for some reason) is my BSD ones. So I have a main au I'm working on, a fantasy au and other random gimmicks so that's fun.

The main au consists of four stories: Nakahara Miyo (Completed as of 18/12/2023) Dostoyevsky Ju (still being written as of 17/01/2025) Jouno Haru & Jouno Yuki (Hasn't been started) Reunion (Hasn't been started)

In these stories we get to know the kids I randomly throw into my BSD works and what kind of trauma they experienced in a lab which they were made in. These children were created because I heard on the radio one day about these scientists growing a rat from an egg without a womb or a mother and my brain is like 'lets do it with children! In the BSD would because that's likely to be something that happens in this world!!'

So that's how we came to the idea of these kids. Originally I was going to do Poe and Ranpo as well as Atsushi and Akutagawa but I stopped at three ships because my brain wont be able to handle it if I do more the the four kids I already have done. I might do a second generation where they do it and have it as like two kids instead of four but idk.

So when I was playing around with the idea I thought of giving these Ships these kids; Soukoku: A little girl who can kill people by looking at them {Ended up doing that} Shin Soukoku: A little boy who can turn into a black tiger and destroy space and time {Scrapped the idea} Ranpo: Conjoined twins who have no ability {Scrapped the idea} Fyolai: A son that can teleport. {Kind of did this} Suegiku: Twin Boys/Girls no ability. {Kinda went with this??

Okay, now this is what I did go with.

Soukoku: A little girl who can kill people with her eyes, however she cant control her ability and is extremely dangerous. Has Dazai's hair but other then that is a carbon copy of Chuuya. Fyolai: A little boy (who later becomes genderless) who can manipulate shadows to move him (from country to country) or kill people. Has Nikolai's green eye (but for both eyes) and has Fyodor's hair other then that he looks like an actual demon and eats human flesh. Suegiku: Twin boy and girl with two different abelites, ones mute the other blind. The mute one speaks in Morse code while the other one runs into walls all the time. The mute has brown hair and red eyes while the blind one has white hair and gold eyes. (I HC that Jouno has red eyes). They're identical twins but their dna was fucked with so the 'doctors' knew who was who. One of them is an actual siren since she can sing and literally anything can happen while the other one is a human shield and can make weapons with the scales he has on his body. They have a joint ability that lets them heal each other in a certain radius.

They were burnt, frozen and like tortured up until they escaped. Oh did I mention that they were age five and under while all this was happening? No? oh well.

But by the end of it they end up living happily with their respective families and the lab and the main person behind it is destroyed/killed. However they have to face the real world which they had no idea even existed and yea. So life is fun. I killed them in one fanfiction, latterly had me crying because I do love these kids I just also love depressing back story's.

Also I had a school counsellor read over the main plot and backstory for these kids and they asked me if I went through this. No ma'am I just think up fucked up shit and do it to fictional characters. At least I have some human decency though; I haven't written paedophilia or incest before. So I DO have some limitations <3

Also I do Ship Suegiku's son and Fyolai's child together, however they only start to get sexually explicit when they're of legal age. So its fine. Also Suegiku's daughter; Yuki has a girlfriend but I'm thinking of changing her backstory?? So her name is Sayori and shes Gin and Higuchis daughter and well I was thinking of having Higuchi give birth to her and these were my first thoughts on how she could have been conserved; A) Shitty ex who went to go get the milk B) Abusive ex she ran away from C) Rape

Because of how this fandom is, and because of the many ways it is possible to understand and interpret Dazai's character, due to a lot of leeway left by canon on purpose, the character that I focus on to see if the writing is good or not, is Chuuya himself.

With ALL of what we have of him and the amount of efforts Asagiri put into presenting his character, the least people could do is portraying him somewhat accurately but noooooo.

It's also because of the random gender roles people put on Soukoku and on Chuuya, specifically when he bottoms, that I've come to dislike most portrayals of that. Sure, again, he can bottom but whyyyyyyy is he acting like that?????

Ugh. Whatever. I just gave up on both eating the cake and have it too (unless it's by a very narrow amount of specific writers, you included, duh-), such is the life of a fic reader with no drive to writer at all 😭

But yeah. Dazai mischaracterization can make sense and this time, it was an AU, so I gave it leeway just for the peak Chuuya badasery on display. I love him.

I do not understand how Chuuya mischaracterization happens though, and how it's so rampant, and I just. Can't stand it. At all.

God, the tsundere thing pisses me off, too. Like, is he one, then technically yeah, specifically he was one towards The Flags due to how he couldn't bring himself to trust them at all, which made SENSE, and how unused he was to being cared for, which ALSO made sense! The term tsundere, and its representation, got bastardized in recent anime culture to just mean someone who acts violently but is secretly a blushing mess at all times that can't string two sentences together if it's not verbal abuse, which is... Mh. Uuuuuuuuuurgh.

On the subject of Dazai and switching tho, it's funny because I always figured that he wouldn't bottom for anyone OTHER than Chuuya, specifically because of how much he prefers it for one, and that denying himself from what he likes is like... A Thing™, with Dazai but also due to how much vulnerability it'd show of him, and of how much power he'd leave in the hands of the person with him. He'd absolutely hate that.

Which, then actually makes sense, if he uses sex with other people as a tool for self harming. And god knows plenty would love to hurt him like that. Mhm. I don't like that.

How do you feel about possessive/jealous Chuuya? Usually, it's Dazai that's portrayed like that, as "down bad" and sure, whatever, he is tho often not like how they write him, But I find Chuuya rarely seen through this lense? (I mean, accurately, not in the "anime jealous highschool girl" kind that he is portrayed as in the fics that take "Tsundere Chuuya" seriously) Which, sometimes make sense, but other times, people just portray their dynamic with Dazai clinging to hell and back and Chuuya just. Hating it.

You once mentioned, in a comment I left on one of your fic, that people often add a power dynamic to Soukoku that is just inexistent in canon, a power imbalance with Dazai holding the reins and Chuuya just. Forced to follow him or something? And I felt like that's one of the things that come with that, you know?

Personally, love possessive/protective Chuuya. Actually, I just love mutually obsessed Soukoku, which. Is what they are. I just live how, whatever energy one bring to the table, the other matches it in some way, it makes their dynamic sooooooo... Dynamic! You know what I mean, lmao?

Sometimes I find asks in my inbox and ask myself why it took me so long to reply… Like this is really easy to reply to 🧍‍♀️ What was I thinking hoarding it.

I can definitely understand cutting the fic some slack because of that. The way I see it, the thing about Dazai, is that he has a shit ton of layers, and even if you represent one of his surface level ones as deeper than it actually is—or even as his core—then you’re still presenting some part of him, and sometimes people accidentally make their work seem satire through doing this, and satirizing the way Dazai presents himself creates an allusion to a more genuine version of him. This is what Asagiri does, by complete accident, imo. I don’t think Dazai is truly as well written as he can be perceived to be, which is why everything Asagiri says about him is always SO far-off and just. Insane. But, this also leads to the fandom accidentally portraying him pseudo-accurately. Meanwhile, Chuuya is honestly pretty… Simple. If you have character-analysis capabilities. Which the fandom does not and that happens to lead to… Whatever the fuck they turn him into. This fic has the opposite problem which is surprisingly rare in the fandom. I hate this fic’s version of Dazai with a burning passion I’m not even going to sugarcoat it anymore. He’s so un-Dazai. What the fuck. (No hate to the author they can do whatever they want forever, but me hating their portrayal is part of MY right to, also, do what I want forever)

I don’t have any strong opinions on the term tsundere, but I do agree with you. If you were to take the less… honestly fetishized version of that kind of character, and were to make a better archetype from it, Chuuya would definitely share traits with that archetype. And especially so in relation to The Flags, yes. He is never that to Dazai, though. Their relationship can’t be trope-fied no matter how much the fandom tries. The fandom is always like “Omg they can fit so many tropes 💗💕 They’re so versatile 🥰” Sweetheart…… That is called…… Not fitting a trope? If a character is more complex than the trope, then they… don’t fit in that trope…? You can water them down so they fit it, sure, and that is what fanon does, but that doesn’t mean they actually do.

About the Dazai switching thing, I actually have a pretty complex opinion on that. I don’t think Dazai enjoys sex (with people other than Chuuya), regardless of the role he plays. And especially so if he starts having sex before Chuuya and doesn’t have any idea what enjoyable sex even is like, or that it’s possible. It’s just that the people he would naturally seek out—the people that would be capable of hurting him most—would definitely want him to bottom. Which is also why I always imagine he sleeps exclusively with men, despite the fact that this being purely an act of self-harm means his sexuality isn’t a factor since his level of attraction and enjoyment is going to be the same regardless of gender. I do think that in the situation where he meets Chuuya and then gets separated from him in a way that makes him believe they’ll never reunite, that he would stick to topping. Precisely because he knows bottoming is something he is capable of liking, and that knowledge makes being subjected to the pain of not liking it even greater than it would be if he simply thought sex was a hoax, and it makes it a horrible mix of emotional and physical pain, too. At that point, I think he’d only accept to bottom if he wanted to hurt himself in an awful, irreparable way. Which definitely happens, but not very often, I’d say.

I also think, in this specific scenario, that he’d probably turn to sleeping with women more often. Because he views fucking a woman a lot easier than fucking a man (lack of prep 💔), and also because, again, he doesn’t really think of women as people and as such isn’t afraid of hurting one in the slightest, meanwhile, there might be the slightest sliver of guilt if he hurt a man through fucking him, it not because of his general reverence of them, because he sees himself in the other person. I just think he’s simply prefer women in this situation, though, but if the man is the one who approaches him and there’s nobody around to whom being gay could jeopardize his reputation he’s definitely not refusing.

Possessive/protective Chuuya, sure. I don’t think he’d ever be jealous, though. He’s too secure for that 😔 The only time he’d get mad about someone interacting with Dazai is if Dazai himself was uncomfortable with it, if Dazai is enjoying the interaction he genuinely doesn’t care. I believe Dazai is jealous because he’s so insecure in himself and, through viewing himself as worthless, he thinks there is nothing he can bring to the table that another person wouldn’t be able to. As such he thinks Chuuya enjoying interactions with other people is always going to be a threat, not because he distrusts Chuuya’s loyalty, but because he thinks he is so unworthy of anything good that Chuuya would, and has the right to ditch him, if he finds a better counterpart. Meanwhile Chuuya, despite everything, is confident in himself and knows his worth. He doesn’t beat his head with bullshit like jealousy or being scared Dazai will find someone else because 1) he trusts their bond 2) if Dazai does then that’s just… Good for him? Sure, he’d be bitter if Dazai left him behind entirely (which, you know, happens in canon), but he’d get over it if he notices that Dazai is doing good, as I think he does in canon. If Dazai manages to keep his relationship with that other person and Chuuya both intact, Chuuya wouldn’t give a fuck.

Case in point, Oda. Which is the last person Dazai had that he was anywhere close to being as close to as he was to Chuuya. I don’t think Chuuya ever had any negative feelings towards him. He knows Oda is a really good friend of Dazai’s, he knows Dazai is sometimes going to hang out with him instead of Chuuya, because they are friends, and he doesn’t mind any of it.

I do think he’d get really protective if someone was bothering Dazai, though. I have a longfic where this happens and my boy starts a bar fight 💀 And another one that I am actually currently working on (rare!!) where Dazai has to flirt with a guy for a mission and the only reason that bothers Chuuya is because he knows Dazai is mighty uncomfortable doing it.

I do think they’re mutually obsessed, though. Just in different ways.

If you need to go to the store urgently for a school project, you typically ask him because he can get you to a store within minutes (please revoke his driving license, as to how he’s never been pulled over is a mystery).

Although he’s willing to drive you there, he will reprimand you from the house to the store, pay for your items, and continue to yell at you on your way home.

On the topic of paying for things, grocery shopping with him is fun.

Obviously he has a list of items that he needs, but when you sneak something into the cart, he’ll say that he refuses to buy it, only to pay for it.

He’s still glad to help you though so don’t take him too seriously.

If you’ve managed to outwit Kunikida and he knows it, he walks off while muttering ‘no respect’ but still hides a smile because you were one step ahead of him.

If you have a large age gap, some times he has to remind himself how stupid he looks arguing with a child.

It’s funny because when you genuinely upset him, he gets quiet, but when the argument is over something trivial, he’s a megaphone.

As I mentioned in my School AU post, Kunikida swears.

Once you’re a bit older, he swears in front of you more, and at you, but never to make you upset

Speaking of you being upset, Kunikida comforts you in the best way he can

He understands if you just want to unload and rant, and sometimes he has to bite his tongue when he’s about to add his two cents

That being said, if you want his guidance he’ll gladly help you, and even tries not to sound so harsh without sugarcoating the situation.

If he’s upset you, sometimes he doesn’t realise until you show signs of being hurt by something he said

But even though he messed up he’ll try to make it better

He can be rigid and strict at times, but sometimes he’ll wake up on a Sunday morning to get breakfast at a cafe or somewhere quiet.

“Get up idiot, we’re getting breakfast”

“I don’t have money”

“I didn’t ask,”

(this is his way of saying he’s paying)

If you start to copy the things Kunikida says without realising it, Dazai will 100% point out and Kida’s face gets violently red.

Acts like it’s not big deal, but finds it endearing that his antics are rubbing of on his little sibling, especially since you have a dedicated time in your schedule specifically for making fun of him

If your personality is similar to his, everyone calls you ‘mini kunikida’

Even though you aren’t actually related, you two make similar facial expressions

If your relationship isn’t entirely ‘speedrun giving kunikida a stroke%’ then that works perfectly for him

Regardless of your sibling dynamic, he values the moments where you two just enjoy each others company without talking

Maybe m some conversation but, no yelling, just being quiet.

If he’s upset about something, he has a hard time venting. But he’ll bring it up in casual conversation. You two have known each other long enough for you to understand that he’s trying to vent though.

Don’t take his harshness as him not caring about you

If you get severally injured, he won’t leave your side until you are 100% healed.

In the school AU, if he’s teaching, he’ll let you sit in his class as long as you keep quiet. If he teaches you, he tries to ignore your mocking remarks at him but his ‘I’m your teacher right now’ act wavers every once in awhile.

“Kida-kunnnn tell me about your schedule, that’ll surely help me sleep,”

“*angry kunikida noises*”

Anyways in normal BSD universe

Kunikida will never admit it, but he likes hearing you ramble about your interests, he’s glad to know you’re doing well

If you’re working on something at the ADA, he’ll quietly drop food on your desk

You had been working really hard at office. There was a build up of paperwork on your desk, and it was starting to get out of control. You hadn’t realised how long you had been speeding through each document until a bag with a styrofoam container landed in front of you.

You looked up to see Kunikida with his usual scowl on his face. Before you could say anything, he began walking away.

“Aww Kunikida-kun,” you yelled after him, he cringed because it sounded similar to how Dazai called him. You garnered the attention of everyone in the office, from your outburst.

“Thank you brother, you shouldn’t have,” he sneered at your fake innocent voice but his face softened at you calling him your brother.

He helps you train in self defence. Even if your ability is helpful in combat, he still wants you to be able to protect yourself as if you didn’t have one

He’ll always try and protect you if he can in a battle

He never expects you to protect him, so when you do, safe to say he is flabbergasted even though he’s literally your brother

He does reprimand you later for putting your life on the line, but is grateful that you jumped in to help him

He doesn’t have any nicknames for you (I don’t think ‘little shit’ counts as a nickname), but he drops the honourifics when he talks to you

If you’re shy, he’ll do most of the talking in public settings for you

He understands that you’re going to act differently in front of strangers, but rolls his eyes when people assume that you’re always this quiet not knowing that a few minutes prior you were acting like a little gremlin.

He’s patient with you, even when you annoy him

Sometimes he snaps (because it’s still Kunikida we’re talking about) but he’ll try and ask for forgiveness without actually saying anything (like using gestures instead, he still says sorry though)

If you upset him, it’s probably difficult to win him over again

But you are his sibling so it’s a lot harder for him to stay mad at you, depending on what you did (obviously if it’s more severe that’s a completely different story)

If you live in your own apartment, he treats it the way he treats Katai’s home.

Meaning he will kick down your door and randomly start cleaning if it’s messy

If you get into a relationship with someone, he honestly won’t care. As long a your happy, and your partner is treating you well, he stays out of it.

He gages his reaction based off how you’re reacting in certain scenarios

For example, if your uncomfortable with how someone is speaking to you, then he steps in

He’s not a hugger, but he’ll make exception for you.

The first time he accidentally said “this is my sibling/brother/sister” he immediately realised what he’s said and turns 50 shades of red.

If you get embarrassed easily, you probably react the same way

If you live to bother him, then do t let him forget it

Regardless, he’s glad you see him as an older brother

Everyone always pokes fun at him because it’s so blatantly obvious he has a soft spot for you even when he’s reprimanding you.

I've been wanting to write/draw stories about Chuuya joining ADA for a while now but my sketches are all very unorganised throughout a timeline I have in my head. So I will take this opportunity to rant about my headcanon of the possibility alternate universe that Asagiri hinted at the end of Beast: "leaves the Port Mafia and follows Dazai"

'Take this opportunity' because Tumblr has unlimited characters and I'm basically talking to air where I can comfortably get it off my mind and archive my ideas. Nobody is going to read this.

In my head, they are two possible ways this can play out:

No book, have Dazai manipulate the situation so Chuuya leaves Port Mafia

Beast AU Dazai had the knowledge of what happens in other realities or at least from the 'original' which is the main storyline. That means:

Dazai knows Paul Verlaine will come

Paul Verlaine would kill the Flags

The book still require some coherent storyline for it to shift reality. So with the power of the book Dazai can write that Chuuya knew that if he stayed in the Mafia, Paul Verlaine would come and kill the Flags. For the sake of the Flags, Chuuya would leave the Port Mafia along with Dazai.

Do they go straight to the ADA after this? Would ADA be able to prevent the catastrophe Verlaine would bring?

ADA has Yosano and Ranpo on board so I'd think they have a chance? Plus they would have plenty more time to prepare for Verlaine's arrival (get the damn Special Ability Division on board if they have to)

Dazai & Chuuya: We bring trouble to you all please adopt us

Which is why I had this headcanon drawn, of what Chuuya would wear if he made it into ADA at the age of 16 after the King of Assassin event. I posted on my Instagram with plans for a redraw in the future

There are undoubtedly consequences to this reality shift with the biggest one being the Flags surviving but becoming Chuuya's enemy

Chuuya would stay with the ADA since he "betrayed the Mafia" for the Flags? But at the same time he becomes their enemy? But he also can't really explain to them why he had to do what he had done? Because it doesn't matter either way they were going to be enemies? And Chuuya is fine with it because he cares for the Flags and didn't mind seen as the enemy CAUSE THAT'S THE KIND OF THING HE DOES LIKE WITH SHIRASE AND THE SHEEP-

Now I actually prefer this storyline than the one with the book because this has to happen after the death of the Flags and Odasaku - cements the reason for Dazai to leave the Mafia. Which makes it even more challenging for ADA Chuuya to happen but that's where✨character development✨ kicks in. If Akutagawa can join the ADA in Beast no doubt my boy Chuuya can.

The kick starter of this event will begin on the night Dazai choose to disappear from the organisation. Remember that whole blowing up Chuuya's car thing? There's a headcanon Dazai did that so Chuuya wouldn't go look for him which may arouse suspicion upon Chuuya and Dazai.

Well let's say Dazai choose NOT to blow up that car, Chuuya goes to look for him, and the dominoes starts tumbling from there.

So Dazai manage to find Chief Taneda, Chairman of the Special Ability Division. This wasn't animated in the anime but the light novel mentioned about a drinking competition between the two? And Taneda would help Dazai find a legal job if he win or something- I don't remember who won but I'd like to imagine Chuuya stomping in at this moment-

"How would Chuuya know where to find hi-" I'd ask the same in Dead Apple but they got some connection or something, they can sniff each other from miles away I guess.

Anyway, Chuuya stomping in for an explanation but he wouldn't act recklessly if the Chief of Special Ability Division is around. Now it's Dazai's turn to pull some strings around here because as you imagine, drinking competition + Chuuya's lightweight = hangover and a potential plot expansion

Chuuya: *blackout*

Dazai: Actually.....do you mind introducing a job for both of us? :)

Now this is rather non-consensual but Dazai will need to pull some similar shit like he did with the Sheep to get Chuuya out of PM, probably even more extreme. They are both the pillars of the Port Mafia. One executive running away is shit but at least one half of Soukoku is in PM which balances out, in the original timeline.

But two of them gone? Now Mori feels the heat of trouble, he wouldn't sit still.

Mori, as the leader of PM, he wouldn't doubt Chuuya's loyalty. Chuuya has proven himself within the 4 years of Mafia life. All he has to do is wait for Chuuya to return with an explanation and all will be well.

Chuuya's loyalty is not easily wavered. Dazai alone is not enough to change Chuuya's mind, this is where the ADA comes in. (Assuming Kunikida is still a math teacher) Fukuzawa, Ranpo and Yosano would play an important role.

Fukuzawa: The strongest cage is not of steel but of mind.

the way it genuinely brought tears to my eyes as i finished the last chapter of the soulmate au. like??? this fic has been my LIFE for the past couple months and seeing the update always made my week 😭.

though I actually cannot wait to see whatever else you write, especially the spinoff and two slow dancers!!! (i haven’t read chapter 1 of the spinoff yet but i WILL right after i finish writing this)

and i’ve also met some amazing people through this fic which is crazy to me because if i didn’t click on this work that one day i was scrolling through ao3 what would’ve happened?? it’s just so insane to think about honestly…and the discord?? everyone on there is so nice it feels like such a welcoming little community. even just going through and reading all the messages brightens my day.

I SWEAR one day i will bind this fic and dedicate some sort of shrine to it on my bookshelf. i will recommend it to anyone and everyone i come across. i will think about it from years to come. i will dedicate my future successes to this beautiful piece of literature.

maybe i’m a little obsessed but hey. the emotions i experienced whilst reading this were unparalleled and it HAS made an impact on my life and myself as a person. (me and my bsf make a bunch of inside jokes and refs about this all the time like ill fall asleep on call and she’ll go “omg dazai and chuuya from the soulmate au!!”)

just sayin people can shame fic readers/writers all they want but some things i’ve read on ao3 are literally published book quality and they have NO idea what they’re missing out on.

I'm surprised I'm not completely emotionally wrecked like ??? This has been my life for months as well, I've spent so much time on this it's insane, updating was always my favourite part of the day. I really do hope you like the rest of what I write, as much if not more than the soulmate au, though I don't think I'll ever get better than this tbh 😭

I also think about it a lot, what would I be doing if I hadn't posted the first chapter of this? If I had given up halfway? Genuinely, if it weren't for this fic, and the people I've met through it, I wouldn't be who I am, and I wouldn't be as happy or content as I am. I'd be positively miserable. Genuinely, the little community we've gathered is the best thing ever <3

Miraculous and (maybe) BSD BEAST Spoilers

Idk what to actually name this, it’s just me ranting while comparing BSD Beast to Shadybug and Claw Noir 😅

So the other day I saw a video on tiktok where someone was complaining about the fact that the new miraculous world special is supposed to have a “reverse world” situation with are main characters and yet Chloe is still a bully in both. For a little context; in the special we learn that Shadybug/Other world Marinette became depressed due to Chloe’s constant bullying of Marinette and Mari didn’t have a close friend group to support her through it.

Now I can see where this person is coming from when you think of this other world strictly as a reverse world; Gabriel is good in this world while Mari and Adrien are bad. But when you think about the few characters we are introduced to/learn about in this world, I feel like it’s closer to the concept of the Bungo Stray Dogs BEAST light novel/manga spinoff.

For those who don’t know about BSD or this spinoff/AU; BEAST is a light novel turned manga series where a select few characters from BSD have switched places. Our protagonist Atsushi is a member of the port mafia and is an antagonist for most of the novel. Dazai is still in the mafia and becomes their boss rather than leaving and joining the Armed Detective Agency. Akutagawa, Atsushi’s mafia rival in the main series, is instead a member of the ADA alongside Odasaku.

Other then these characters, most of the minor characters stay relatively the same as their main universe counterparts with a few exceptions. Kyouka is still with the mafia and works alongside Atsushi (her job is mostly the same just with a slightly different backstory and design). Gin, Akutagawa’s sister, is still with the mafia but works as a secretary and has a strained relationship with her brother (again she also has an altered design). But other than that, Chuuya’s position is the same (Mafia executive, loyal to Dazai, etc), and most of the ADA members are the same other than tweaked designs or minor personality changes.

Now my character comparisons are far from 1:1 BUT for the sake of the argument this is how I’m separating the characters:

Akutagawa is Gabriel/Hawkmoth/Hesperia

Atsushi is Shadybug/Ladybug

Chuuya is Chloe

The ADA members are Alya and Nino

Note: I didn’t add Chat Noir/Claw Noir because I’m talking specifically about Chloe’s role in comparison to Chuuya’s role in their respective worlds. Claw/Chat is not affected by Chloe in EXACTLY the same way as Shady/Lady (claw noir as a completely different “villain origin story”, chat/Adrien is not as heavily bullied by Chloe)

In this argument think of the characters above as being in the same place:

In the main stories/universe

Akutagawa/Gabriel are seen as “villains” or antagonists to our main characters for the most part.

Atsushi/LB are considered our “hero’s” or protagonist for the majority of the series.

The ADA/Nino and Alya are secondary characters who aid/help/support our protagonist in some way.

Chuuya and Chloe are secondary characters that typically cause some sort of conflict in one way or another to the protagonist and their allies.

In the alternate universe (BEAST/SB&CN)

Akutagawa/Gabriel have switched and taken on the “hero” or protagonist role

Atsushi/Shadybug have switched and taken over the “villain” or antagonist role

The ADA/Alya and Nino, while having changes in character designs, are still seen aiding our protagonist as allies (the ADA to Aku, Alya & Nino to Gabriel)

Chuuya/Chloe retain their roles as secondary antagonists is some aspect; Chuuya is still an executive of the port mafia and is loyal to Dazai (the leader of the mafia who also controls Atsushi). Chloe is still her bully self (as far as we know) who has pushed Shadybug/Marinette to become a villain

Pretty much what I’m getting at is that, when put in comparison to a series like BEAST, the SB & CN universe IS NOT a direct reverse world when you really look at it. It’s more of an “our main characters are reversed while the secondary characters are the same give or take”. I can see why people are confused or maybe frustrated given that it seems the alternate world in the special was framed as a reverse world, but when you look at what we’re given it really isn’t.

Like I said, Shadybug’s universe seems to align more closely to the BEAST universe where only certain characters are reversed. Of course we don’t have much to go one, but this is how I think about it from the tidbits we are given in the special. I mean at the end of both series, Shadybug and BEAST!Atsushi are no longer seen as villains. BEAST!Astushi is freed from the port mafia and Dazai’s control, instead taking up residence with BEAST!Mori at the orphanage. Shadybug is given a new sense of hope by Ladybug leading to the start of Shady’s redemption. So it truly isn’t a total reverse world AU in my opinion.

This is getting kind of long and Idk how else to frame my thoughts so imma leave it here. Sorry if it’s kinda ranty and I hope it makes sense. I can try to clarify stuff if anyone has questions, but it’s been a hot minute since I’ve read the BEAST light novel so hopefully I’m not too off.

ive noticed that everyone seems obsessed with fem skk and all that so allow this ask to be a breather. im gonna tell u about my newest bsd fanfic idea!!! i mean, i have other ppl to tell it to as well but they're not invested into bsd like i am. this is more or less a small passionate rant from an author so there's rlly no need to make this into one of ur inbox sketches or anything like that but i don't mind it if u do lmao

ok ok so i LOVE pretty much any humanoid creatures who primarily prey on humans (vampires, zombies, etc.) and now ive been thinking about the possibility of a zombie apocalypse au that's kinda kunikidazai based in which kunikida and dazai were separated from the rest of the ADA but still use their office as a shelter in hopes that they'll find their way back and be reunited. everything is normal up until dazai literally dies from blood loss after being attacked by zombies and kunikida, unable to simply toss his coworker's corpse into the ocean or smth even though he KNOWS he's gonna turn, decides to bring him back to their shelter and barricade him into a spare room. the next day, he wakes up to a now zombified dazai growling and scratching at the door, trying to get out. at this point, it's like a rlly good delve into his ideals and morals, and how far he'll go just to ensure that no one he cares about gets hurt/killed + it gives him a moment of irrationality in his otherwise logical mind. he should've gotten rid of his body, he should've left him behind and not have brought a massive burden on himself but he CARES!! it's evident he does even in canon in one of the light novels so i need to make more content for that.

anyways, days pass. he feeds dazai raw meat from his own rations, believing that it'll calm his friend down until he can find or make a cure for him to bring him back. and then he meets ranpo, the sole survivor of the other group of ADA members (yes, even yosano. zombies are undead and aren't close enough to death for her ability to work on but it's like a rlly fine line) ranpo, in short, is rather jaded. he lost his friends and even the person he viewed as a father figure. when he moves into the shelter in the office, he's reasonably upset by kunikida keeping what he likes to refer to as 'dazai's walking corpse' in a spare room that they could easily put to use now. they argue, ranpo says there isn't a cure and that kunikida should just let him go, kunikida asks why, and then ranpo presents The Glasses™, puts them on, then tells him the truth. there is no cure. he'd be the first to know, other than the creators themselves. once kunikida is stubborn enough to still keep good ole zombie dazai around, ranpo states that he doesn't want him eating their rations if he insists on feeding him. there is still a way to feed him, however. cut to them finding the nearest dead body and then tossing it into dazai's room and hearing him feast on it. not a good day for kunikida's values, that's for sure. oh wait hold on did i mention that i also want kunikida to make a endless supply of ammo with his notebook just in case he encounters danger (that would be cool, but he'd probably try to limit his notebook page usage)

ive also considered adding chuuya and akutagawa, as they got stranded when it happened and have been wandering around by themselves for awhile now. i feel like the cast of characters would be an interesting combination, plus they all have connections to dazai and are all upset about his current condition (to some extent). also chuuya could look at ranpo and go "you're that one punk from the agency that trapped me in a damn book!" cue him almost actually punching ranpo this time but kunikida stopping him somehow. everyone's abilities would be so good in a apocalyptic setting though. rashomon tearing into zombies long before they reach them, or for the tainted sorrow crushing hordes of them in emergency situations. great stuff

i haven't decided on the ending yet becuz there are a lot of contenders. kunikida could make a cure, or he could finally decide to deal with dazai, or they could all get zombified, or maybe he could just leave dazai stuck in that room forever while he, ranpo, and the others find a different place, becuz the ADA and PM are no more.

(manga spoilers// similar to the bram's vampirism but not induced by an ability kinda) There's so much to work with in that tbh, a lot of adventures and action and cool combos~

And I love the idea that it centers on Kunikidazai with Kunikida not wanting to leave Dazai behind ;w; I think it really fits them well. I remember reading an adorable webtoon similar to this—two best friends getting caught up in a zombie apocalypse, the main character tries to survive as a human and his best friend becomes a zombie that for some reason is not aggressive or attacking (protective bf troupe lezgooo) It's a very cute one, though I lost track of it's update TwT)) sorry if the comparison might sound offensive! It wasn't my intention, I just really like those kinds of troupes in apocalyptic settings hhhh /gen

Whatever route you choose for the plot, I'm sure it would be fun :)) I'm cheering you on for this au! I just hope you don't take the evil angst route /j
