Larys does what no one has done for Aegon: he's teaching him. he tells him the harsh truth, which hurts. Otto and Alicent did it too. but the difference is that Larys also demonstrates to Aegon that he is not alone in his path and he will have his support, he is here to help, not harm. He doesn't look at him as useless, even when he's lying in bed unable to move. he sees potential in Aegon - a combination of the ability to listen and the desire to return what is due - which is why he gives him a weapon "your mind is all that remains to you", rather than a finished result.

Larys can manipulate, using his own experience and genuine pain, and sympathize with Aegon's situation at the same time, these are not mutually exclusive things, especially when Aegon showed him his respect by giving him a position on the council ("i should be glad of your talents") and when their fruitful cooperation will bring victory to both of them. Aegon will become Larys' greatest creation if Larys continues to teach him inner restraint and cunning.

due to circumstances i became the only person at my job fully trained in my region which means they keep handing people to me to train so i've got two people asking me questions at least once an hour and now they want me to train someone who's technically senior to me on something she hasn't been shown. so basically i'm living this fucking tweet.

i have a counter argument to the 'only one person can boop bill' thing, mabel. she's the type of person to slap stickers on people, she would definitely be the type to also boop others occasionally and bill would be no exception. she probably doesn't do it to annoy bill like dipper would, but maybe as a form of a friendly gesture, kind of like those people who will lightly punch friends in the arm when they hang out.

it feels weird to frame Ashton's current drive as wanting to be The Most Special and Chosen with this implication that he's being selfish or entitled with what he wants. Ashton, who can count the really good days in their life on their hands, who's been in constant pain for god knows how long. Ashton, a blank slate, deprived even of the meaning that comes from a history and identity. Ashton, deemed so worthless that even a group that called themselves the Nobodies abandoned him.

Ashton was not full and asking to feast; he was starving and asking to be fed. They weren't begging the gods to make them a champion and hand them a spell list, they just wanted someone to pick them up when they fell down for the first time in their life. instead, the gods (in any shape or form he could recognize) left him alone until the moment he become a problem for them.

of course he resents them. and of course he's grasping on to the first answers he's found, the first indication that he's ever mattered. it's fascinating to watch Ashton try to feel empowered by their world-altering burden instead of overwhelmed, and make decisions they'll think were fucking stupid in 20 episodes, and just overall try and tie his disparate parts together into one functioning whole, even if he's not really succeeding. especially if he's not really succeeding! we're not watching Ashton fly too close to the sun, asking for too much and getting burnt. we're watching them trying, clumsily and haphazardly, to pick up their broken pieces and create themselves anew.

ALSO something I notice is that when a fic refers to 'jiang wanyin' and its not in lwj/a stranger pov, the author either loves him and wants to emphasize how mature and respected and powerful he is (HA) or hates him and wants to emphasize how evil and dangerous and alienated from wwx he is. they're both wrong he is jiang cheng always and forever amen

Thinking about 「The Road Not Taken」 and some people wishing that Lumine had a better traveling partner made me reflect on Dain's acts of kindness and how in reality, they aren't direct nor conventional, but they don't lack weight at the same time.

We're talking about a man who was deeply affected by everything that was happening in the Chasm and hid that from Halfdan in order to tell him the way he seemed to need that despite what happened in Khaenri'ah, he and the others fulfilled their duty and that he's proud of them.

We're talking about a man that would stay the whole night guarding so that his traveling partner would be able to sleep.

And we're talking about a man that as an act of kindness would rather leave and wait until someone else recomposes themselves after crying in their sleep than staying there and add to the other the shame of being seen in that state.

To some these acts of kindness might not be enough or what they need, but to deny them is the same as ignoring that Dain works with subtleties, be it verbal or otherwise.

reddit keeps sending me to a subreddit all about complaining abt taylor swift and like. i don't believe in ethical billionaires and i think she's not a good person and i disagree with a lot of her actions. but man you guys are not winning the "we are not misogynists" war when every other post is just "lol she sucks at singing and her clothes are ugly and i hate her hair and all she does is whine and complain" with no actual critique of like. her actions. the way she treats her fans. her constant money grabbing. her reliance on a thin shield of performative feminism without even the most basic speaking up to back it. her refusal to acknowledge genocide. her refusal to back down on her personal impact on climate change re her private jet usage. saying lol she's ugly is not the same as those things and you are not cool for saying it.

Listen, if you can read a novel in its original language, that doesn’t make you or your opinions inherently superior than the people who read translations. Like, sure, you might pick up on more nuances that didn’t carry over in translation, and it’s a valuable perspective to have, but people have terrible reading comprehension in their native language all the time. No one is “less valuable” in fandom just because they read a translation.
