On April 5, 1956, the labor columnist of the Daily Mirror, Victor Riesel, and his secretary left Lindy's restaurant at 3:00 in the morning. As they walked to Riesel's car, parked in front of the nearby Mark Hellinger Theater, a small-time hood named Abraham Telvi materialized out of the shadows and threw a vial of sulphuric acid in Riesel's face. It got him straight in the eyes.

Riesel was a hard-hitting foe of organized crime, Communists, and toughs in labor unions (his father had been crippled for life by ILGWU goons), and his column appeared in 193 newspapers. In 1956 he was working closely with the New York Attorney General in an ambitious assault on the city`s rackets.

His blinding created an uproar. "It is a return of the Al Capone era" thundered the Mirror. "It is the simple, bald determination on the part of the underworld to have its own way and maintain its fabulously profitable rackets by terror and death, and in defiance of the law." It concluded, "The scum who plotted this cruel attack may rob a man of his eyes but not of his vision."

It was eventually determined that New Jersey racketeer Johnny Dio, a prime target of Riesel and the Attorney General, had hired Telvi to make the attack. He was never prosecuted, but in July, Telvi was found shot dead on Mulberry St. He had been paid a few hundred dollars for the acid attack but had later decided it was worth $50,000.

Riesel's column continued to be written by his staff until he was able to return to work. He continued to report on labor for decades.

“I know it’s a cow. But it sounds scared. It might need help!”

“And how is that our problem? Since when do I look like a farmer to you?”

“Geralt, the poor animal might be in mortal danger! We cannot just ride past it and leave it to a most horrible fate. All kinds of monsters are lurking in the nearby swamps, you said so yourself just yesterday!”

“Hm. I might have exaggerated a bit,” Geralt admits. “Just to make sure you stay on the track and don’t run off flower picking or looking for berries. Remember the hirikka you thought was so cute? During the dragon hunt?”

“Before you left me alone on top of that mountain, you mean?” Jaskier asks, although he, of course, knows exactly what Geralt is talking about. “And the hirikka was cute - until Sir Eyck cut its head off, poor thing. Now, what about the cow? Are you going to rescue it, Witcher, or do I have to do it all by myself?”

Summary: Jaskier saves a cow! With a little help from Geralt 😉 (Set during the events of Baptism of Fire, more exactly after the Fish Soup and before the Battle on the Bridge. You don't need to have read the books though to enjoy the story.)

Sometimes we go a long way for food…

Twenty minute train ride to eat beef noodle soup in Kuala Lumpur. Folks and I had a good lunch. Mom has been 2 1/2 hours shopping at Sentral Mall at the time of writing. Pick her up from the LRT later.

Worked out briefly this morning and will run before dinner. So much of the world is being destroyed by rampant Asian Liew witchcraft.

Yesterday in the news, local celebrity footballer splashed with acid at a mall. The guy who gave the Malaysian team’s no.1 fan a new motorcycle. He’d sold his bike to travel to Qatar for the tournament. I hope the attackers were not non-bumi as then there will be trouble!

The victim is... the same as yesterday?

Since Danny managed to master the power of duplication he noticed a couple of things: duplicates didn't always disappear when he wanted them to, it was possible to make many at once and he could change shapes when he used it. The duplicates also disappeared in ecto when destroyed.

So, when the halfa moved to a new location he decided it made the most sense to release "Human Danny's" over Gotham and stay as Phantom to look at his new home from the sky. He needed to investigate his new surroundings and probably find a better place to live.

This made the bats desperate, they had multiple alerts of "Multiple black-haired, blue-eyed boys wandering into dangerous territories" and "A meta flying around Gotham", Bruce doubted it was a coincidence, maybe the meta was a new villain.

In some cases they couldn't get there in time and the blue-eyed boy died mysteriously, since they didn't communicate with each other, they didn't know it was the same victim over and over again. Danny wasn't surprised when he felt one of his duplicates return to him. Of course, the halfa had no idea he was giving Red Robin traumas about a boy "vanishing on acid".

The batfamily, who remained without communication, thought that some villain was chasing down black-haired, blue-eyed people and killing them. Jason was the first to realize that it was the same boy and he frowned not understanding the situation. He found the meta and he was almost harmless, which didn't have sense.
