Whether canon provides input on them or not:

As pointed out in the Iora analysis post before, Sora, unfortunately, doesn't get too many opportunities to bond with the 02 Chosen Children on her own, as her main focus point among them is obviously Miyako. So basically, we only have two instances to work with: First of all, when Taichi reveals that Daisuke turned out to be one of the new Chosen Children, Sora is among the first to react to the news, asking whether it's the same Daisuke they went together to football club with. So it is already established that they must have known each other before. Again, unfortunately, that's about everything we really get about them here, because we don't see them interact with or react to each other. 

The second instance is the Revolmon/Starmon episode, in which the gang (minus Takeru and Hikari) travels to the Digital World to save Piyomon - again, it's mainly Sora and Miyako who interact with each other, but there are a few minor instances that at least hint at them being comfortable and trustful around each other. For example, when Sora suggests that they can't wait for Takeru and Hikari to join them and should travel to the Digital World right away, Daisuke agrees immediately - which is actually unusual for him, since he normally probably would have insisted on waiting for Hikari at least. So we can assume that it's important to him to help his senpai, whom he probably also looks up to from back in the day in football club. During the episode, they're framed next to each other very consistently, when drinking milk, when being held hostage, etc. and they also share some nice "annoyed faces" at their "enemy". Last but not least, we get the shot above - Daisuke and Raidramon got hit by an attack and fall to the ground, just to be caught by Miyako/Sora and Hawkmon/Piyomon respectively. Sora's protective nature is still intact as we can see - so while this is not a lot material, we can at least assume there is groundwork for a mutually protective bond between the two. Let's get to the creative writing part, shall we...

Whether I think why and how they’d work:

Again, while it is somewhat hard to tell how these two would interact in different scenarios, I'd like to think of them as having a lot of respect for one another - as pointed out, it seems plausible to me that he'd look up to her in a similar way as to Taichi, whom he always adored and admired, probably even aspired to be like him to some degree. Watching his two senpais being absolute aces, I couldn't see him arguing with Sora the same way he does with Jun or Miyako, but he may actually put her on a (tiny) pedestal (similarly to how he does it with Hikari, who, obviously, is also linked to Taichi). In turn, Sora may have quite the soft spot for Daisuke trying as hard as he does - especially because she should be able to empathize with his self-doubts of not feeling good enough. She's also familiar with guys who have big mouths - so she'd also know how to deal with him in case his emotions would get the best of him to keep him in check.

Which is actually something I could see him doing for her too - at least once they're a tad bit older, because during teenager years, it's sometimes difficult not to spout out things you probably didn't mean to. But thanks to his relationship with Ken, it's easy to see that he can see through other people's insecurities with utmost sincerity and openness once he knows someone well enough - or rather, WANTS to know them better. Sora is pretty closed off in terms of her own feelings and needs - we can see that the other guys have quite the hard time getting through to her, because they too, are closed off to some degree. So taking someone who slowly but steadily overcame his own self-doubts for the sake of his own happiness, Daisuke could actually be a great person to help her open up. Making her understand that going for her own dreams and wishes may be difficult at first glance, she may step on a few toes because of it, maybe even face consequences here and there - but it's not impossible. And if 02 taught us anything - Daisuke would always encourage others to strive for the life they want to live. He can be a bit naive at times and may not find the most... Sensitive words in each and every situation, but he goes for what he believes in and he's blunt about it. Which is exactly what Sora could need in order to get in touch with herself better.

Overall, these two are pretty passionate about the things and people they care about. They also have a certain hot-headedness about themselves as a result, they both can get angry if people don't value them accordingly, making them feel underestimated, so it is possible that they could clash here and there - but when I look at them, I could see a lot of softness too, if they manage to be open with one another. In the end, Daisuke is growing into his own person, he may be the heir of Courage and Friendship - but he is neither Taichi nor Yamato and maybe, just maybe, that could be a great romantic match for Sora as well.

I could see them being silly together, I could see him asking her for a little football match to cheer her up or for a round of ramen when she's stuck with her exhibitions. I could see her wanting to give him confidence boosts in return as well, helping with the decorations of his restaurant or she might even design his own restaurant brand of work clothes - and he, being also very similar to Mimi regarding his bluntness, would be absolutely in awe of everything she creates and be also very vocal about it.

Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship:

Well, thanks to @dutchforstrangers, one could say that these two may or may not be a little bit of guilty pleasure, hehe. Granted, I'll always live for Taiora and Daiken going to football matches together as a double date - but based on everything I've talked about above, I cannot deny that the perceived respect I can potentially sense between Daisuke and Sora is something that can be pretty intriguing. Because canon didn't give us a lot to work with, we gotta make it work in other ways, right? I know I keep mentioning how characters "can be good" for one another, especially those with underlying self-worth issues... But all these characters are very dear to my heart and have a lot of potential... So whether you see this as being Daisuke just looking up to his senpai and Sora respecting him, or them ending up in a mutually supportive and honest romantic relationship - feel free to come to us to talk about it. ;)

I wanted to do high school designs for the Adventure Twelve. So I did!

Taichi, Yamato, Sora: Attend the same school relatively close to home (regardless of anything, the Tsukishima High School uniforms are very well designed). Though none of them are in the same class, they meet up for lunch often. Taichi and Sora continue to do soccer and tennis; Yamato is technically in the “Going Home Club”, but he practices with the Teenage Wolves almost daily.

Koushirou: Knowing he wants to get into research, he puts more of an effort to ace his entrance exams to get into a more academically oriented school. Though he is a bit concerned about entering an environment with complete strangers at first, his peak social awkwardness days are long behind him, and he quickly finds his place and excels in the computers club.

Jyou: Achieved his goal of attending a prestigious private high school, on the path on getting into a national university like his brothers before him and studying medicine. Focuses on cram school with all his might, because he admits he lacks the aptitude to balance both cram school and clubs.

Mimi: Living her best uniformless life as a high school student in New York City. Dabbles in various extracurriculars every year, including cheerleading, dance, drama, choir, Yearbook Committee, and the International Food Appreciation Club.

I think “handled well” has different potential definitions that we’d have to define first. In terms of the excuses they used to conveniently nerf the older Adventure kids, I feel like they definitely could have come up with some better excuses than the Crest depowering that was revealed only halfway into 02. I think the Dark Towers were actually a decent move (it’s just an extended and more threatening version of the Love Serenade in Adventure itself), but the Crest thing definitely reeked a bit of last-minute excuse. But fundamentally I don’t think the nerfing is the problem -- the Adventure kids got, uh, kind of ludicrously powerful at the end of their series, so it makes sense that some kind of nerfing would probably be necessitated to establish why they can’t just steamroll over any problem that comes up now, and so my complaint is just “I wish you’d spent a bit more time/foreshadowing establishing an excuse like this instead of just rushing the explanation in without warning”.

As far as whether they Adventure kids were “handled well” in terms of respect given to their characters, I think they were handled about as well as you can ask for given the nature of what 02 was as a series.

02 is a sequel that, from the very beginning, was a story about a new cast, so that they wouldn’t have to rehash territory with the original Adventure kids and be redundant or backpedal, and so the writers had no obligation to include the Adventure kids in a plurality of episodes. This goes not just for 02, but for any sequel that changes casts. It’s just how things work -- a story is based on the viewpoint of the characters it focuses on, and that means said viewpoint isn’t obligated to zoom in on an old cast just because they were what the camera used to zoom in on; see stories like Nanoha or Ace Attorney where casts change hands and older characters take on more of a mentor role. This is completely normal and expected in media, and it’s not like 02 was advertising itself as anything to the contrary, nor that the Adventure kids had an unfinished story in their own series or something. So it makes sense that a few years later, they’d use their expertise to help out any juniors who are starting on their own adventure. I understand that Adventure fans probably wanted to see their favorite kids as much as possible, but while it must certainly be a bummer to see less of them (and I won’t deny it!), their appearances should probably be seen more as a bonus, not an obligation.

When it comes to situations like these -- again, something that 02 is absolutely not the first nor the last piece of media to ever do -- I think the question is less about how much screentime the seniors got, and more of how they were treated within the narrative, and if their treatment was with the respect they deserve and in a way that’s true to their character arcs and relationships. (For instance, in the Ace Attorney example above, I’m much less inclined to think too hard about complaints about 4 because “Phoenix isn’t the protagonist” and far more when they’re about “what they did to Phoenix’s character arc”.) Within 02, there was absolutely no point where it was implied that the Adventure kids were viewed with anything but utmost admiration and respect from their juniors. No, seriously, the 02 kids adored their seniors, arguably even more so than the writers necessarily even needed to portray them as, but the kids really just straight up practically pedestal’d them. And when the Adventure kids did show up, they were always helpful and kind and generally true to the character development we’d seen of them in Adventure (I know there are people who would dispute me on this, and I’m not going to claim they don’t have a right to an argument, I just personally think generally everything tracked).

So I think, given the fact that 02 was a sequel that had absolutely no obligation to involve the Adventure kids to the degree they did, they actually did about as well as you could ask for in terms of giving us a refreshing update on their status and also handing them a bunch of really cute adoring juniors who near pretty unequivocally love them. I’m not going to say it’s perfect by any means, and I still gripe about the nerfing mechanic (although, to be honest, even that I can only complain so much because it’s clearly reversed after the events of 02, which means the 02 kids are still outclassed by their seniors anyway), but I feel it’s definitely one of the better ones I’ve seen!

Digimon Adventure Tri Stage Play Reaction

Guys, this is not an analysis: this is my feels and obnoxious comments while viewing the stage play.  My initial goal was to use these notes to make an analysis, but they’re too funny/stupid/wow to hide from the world.  I typed these notes in real time, stopping the play whenever I had a thought.  It’s the closest I can get to having you watch me watch the stage play without using videos.  I will write an actual meaningful post soon, but for now, have a confused and jumpy/unpolished blob of feels.

The other thing I want to say is that I didn’t edit this after I wrote it, except for surface editing (grammar, spelling) and clarifications (mostly adding more names).  So if I formed an impression at some point, that’s what I really thought in that moment; I didn’t go back and change it.

That said: this will completely and totally spoil the stage play.  SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!  Read on below the cut (if you dare; it’s almost 4K words long and full of images).

Hidden’s Digimon Adventure Tri Stage Play Reaction

I am immediately not buying that Mimi wouldn't want to camp in the bungalow.  Isn't this the kid that went to Tokyo Tower instead of patrolling Tokyo because the tower has AC?  I guarantee she'd whine an hour in about wanting the bungalow, but wouldn't allow Koushiro to point out that she made this choice for all of them x__x

 Did Mimi just... just throw the laptop?  How bratty can you get?  I... wow, I really hope they don’t treat my Mimi so poorly the whole play.

From Sora's speech, I can see that nostalgia will be a major theme here, which, to be fair, is appropriate, lol!  Nostalgia is pretty much why we’re here.

TAICHI! It’s so good to see you get your big bro on again, lol???  Hikari:  "I'm not a kid who needs to wait for you to walk home with me."

 Taichi: "What?  Why not?  WHAT'S WRONG?!  CONFIDE IN ME!"  He’s so aggressive and clumsy about it, lol??

Jyou, amiably: "You, of course! Wait-"  I'm like 15 minutes in and I have already decided that Jyou is my favorite (not surprising lol).

Jyou:  "YOU ARE IN DANGER, TAICHI.  I HAVE NEVER SEEN YOU STUDY."  Oh lord, Jyou is bashing Taichi with the stone of foreboding. Is Jyou okay?  Is he quite sane?  He isn't, is he.  Do you see that gleam in his eye?  No, no. He is gone and gone indeed.  Jyou’s actor is A+++

Annnnnnd oh hey, it's Yamyams doin' jamjams!  I can dig that bass, is he actually playing?  Oh hey, he's gonna sing for real, he's-  Oh my god, stop!  ABORT! He's terrible, hahahaha?!?!?!  IT BURRRRNSSS!!!

So Takeru says, "I don't want to see us go our different ways."  I've mentioned it over and over, but this feeling is so important to me.  It's something I want to write an entire fic around.  On the one hand, it's such an easy topic, given the subject material. On the other, it's where my brain keeps going.  So... Let's see what happens!

Also:  Takeru:  "Stay hidden, Patamon!" *puts Patamon on his head and skips offstage* Takeru, sigh...

Jyou is talking about how he wants to help digimon by being a doctor, by saving and protecting, and my heart is growing three sizes.  Best Chosen, y'all.

But oof, the atmosphere got so heavy...  Why do these kids refuse to talk about what they want to do???  Jyou remains refreshing.  Also, I'm just noticing how Koushiro turns his entire body around every single time towards whoever is talking?  He leans in, too.  It's both cute and unexpected (I would expect much more reserved body language, but I get that this is a play and that's what you do).

HAH!  Only Jyou can see the shooting star because he's the only one with his shit together!  I love that, lol!  (Also, is that really Tailmon's voice actress?  Hmm...)

NO, ETEMON HAS KOU-CHAN, BAD TOUCH, BAD TOUCH although really it's painful that we're still pretending they can't recognize Etemon.

Koushiro can't read the room...  Well, at least that's familiar, lol!

HOLY SHIT did Hikari and Mimi just use the tired "scary stories" trope to bring up the Dark Ocean? Hmm, right now I'm thinking that Mimi's actress is so lovely and so lively and really feels like Mimi, but...  I also can't stand how they wrote her so far.  Throwing Koushiro's computer, talking over him, not allowing him to point out when she's contradicting herself, immediately requesting the supplies she forbade people to bring...  This stuff annoyed me in Adventure, but she was 10 and in a situation I would have strongly struggled to handle.  But now she's literally...  Making problems for everyone...  For nostalgia's sake...  At age 16? I'm so torn, lol, because the acting is so good but ahhhhh...  Let's see how this develops...

Hmm hmm, I'm listening to Sora talk about how she doesn't wanna grow up, either... Darling, you're already quite grown up, lol!  Lovely lady. I love how the digimon puppeteers echo their puppets, I can't get enough of watching Agumon's puppet and performer while Sora speaks.  They really did a great job!

I think I'm about an hour into this, maybe a little less?  45 minutes?  So far all that's really happened is that we've established that the characters want to be together as Chosen Children, and that with the exception of Jyou, they aren't emotionally or mentally prepared to seriously think of a future beyond that.  I'll be the first to say that this a compelling and interesting topic, and it's something I've wondered about for them, but...  Shouldn't... more things... have happened by now?  Hmm...  I understood that this would be an issue from Sora's very first bit of dialogue.  No one in the audience needs this much expansion and repetition, particularly with so few new ideas and so little momentum so far.  Tri is intended as a love letter for fans of Adventure, yes?  Mostly adult fans?  We don’t need this much repetition to understand, we truly don’t...

Ah!  Now Yamato is talking about Jyou and how to become an adult, finally dropping some new ideas in.  Love ya, Yams.  And ahh, man, Taichi is just... screaming all of his lines?  The actor is so sweet and cute, but the delivery...  I'm pretty sure it's supposed to reflect that Taichi is putting up fronts like nobody's bidness, though.  Yamato ain't buyin' it (Yamato is Almost Best).  I really want him to grunt, "Tell the truth or shut up." XD XD  GRUNT GRUNT.

 Augh, god, I can't take this tho?  Literally EVERY TIME someone tries to say something that will move the plot forward or inject some vulnerability into this play (except for Papa Jyou), they change the subject.  I'm about halfway through now and this has to be at least the 10th time we've been blocked from useful information and deeper thoughts with this method.  Tri suffers from this same issue, though...  Their plot is such that they can’t sustain tension if issues are faced in a natural way, so they CHANGE THE SUBJECT or DROP A LEAD or IGNORE A LEAD, etc, etc.  Here it's mostly saying, "Well what about you?" or screaming someone else's name, which...  Subtle???  Ah, Taichi's latest method of not saying anything is to ask Yamato to play his harmonica...  Oh my god, he's playing Walk on the Edge!  Okay, okay, you got me, stage play.  Hahaha, I remember Yams being better at playing a harmonica, tho!!!!  (I keep picking on this poor dude who is asked to do all of the awesome shit Yams can do, sorry my dude).

Taichi:  Should we sleep?

Yamato:  Let's talk some more.

Wow, Yamato lost it at Kou-chan...  You know, we think of Taichi as carrying a lot of pressure (and rightfully so), but Koushiro carries just as much, as we saw in Kokuhaku.  He's not magic, Yams, he needs his tools, and he doesn't have 'em. Related:  Although I don't much care for how it happened, I definitely would love to read/write/see a story where Koushiro has no computer and has to adapt, though.  I'd also love to see one where a new tech wizard appears and he questions his role, but that's a whole' nother thing.

(My husband has informed me that I'm growling.  He tells me that, when we were watching Gravity Falls and Mabel tries to tempt Dipper and the others to stay in the perfect imaginary world Bill made for her, I said, "What is she, Satan?  Tempting them to stay here in comfort instead of facing danger to save everyone?"  This is a similar scenario, and it's one of the few things I didn't like about Gravity Falls and OH NO, TAICHI IS THE MABEL OF THIS SITUATION, HELP!!!!  Oh thank goodness, Taichi's done with this too, whew, okay, okay, breathe, stop growling).

Oh God, the Agumon puppet looks dead without the puppeteer, that's actually really awful? These puppets are amazing, guys.  I cannot say enough good stuff about the execution with these puppets.

Hmm, Taichi just begged for mercy, and Etemon is unimpressed...  Reminds me of the fandom after Saikai.  I wonder where they'll take this...

HOLY SHIT Taichi is losing his shit!  I won't say that all of that stammering and dodging earlier is accounted for here, since most of the characters did it to some degree, but it's nice to see the payoff within the same piece (instead of waiting months for the next Tri film and forming your own conclusions in that time period).  I'm actually happy to see a screaming breakdown like this...

Man Koushiro speaks SO QUICKLY, dude, slow it down!!!  Ahhh, he says that we're granted whatever we want here, so Etemon is probably trying to trick us by having us hear Jyou.  SOMEONE IS THINKING USING THEIR BRAINSSS I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!

JYOU IS HEREEEE TO SAVE THE DAAAAAAYYY THE NEW DIGI JESUS, JYOUUUUUU!!!  (And while I 100% agree that you should be cautious, Kou-chan, c'mon, he arrived saying that you made his phone go off on the train and it made him feel awkward, that's pretty much proof that it's Jyou, lol!).  OH AND NOW KOU AND YAMS ARE ROASTING JYOU, classic.

Koushiro finally takes a stab directly at the heart of this...  It's not even about being children and avoiding adulthood; it's about not wanting to leave August 1st.  I realize exposition is Kou's job, but I didn't expect him to be the one to lay it out after all of this dodging.  I’ll be honest, I’m so pleased with Koushiro in this stage play so far?  I love how he moves, I love how quickly he speaks, I love that he’s able to come out and say this.  I wasn’t into the way the play used him spouting off numbers to indicate intelligence, but that’s a nitpick compared to the ground they gave Koushiro here.  

JYOU.  JYOU.  EVEN IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, KOUSHIRO, I BELIEVE IN YOU.  He continues to be THE BEST, I am in awe, I bow before Jyou.

Okay so now Taichi is freaking out and Koushiro is trying to talk to him (roughly 70% of this stage play is someone trying and failing to talk to someone else).  But I really like what Taichi says here- "I have nothing to hesitate about." We all know this isn't true; Taichi is hesitating all over the place right now.  Let's see where this goes!  (Please let it go somewhere this time, lord above).  WAIT- WAIT-  ARE YOU SHOWING ME KOUSHIRO POINTING FINGERS AT TAICHI'S BULLSHIT AND SAYING "I'VE BEEN BY YOUR SIDE FOR SIX YEARS!!" AND THEN CUTTING AWAY?!?!??!?!?!?!?  RAAAAAAAHHHH is this an aneurysm?  I think this is what an aneurysm feels like.  You can't drop lines that good and then CUT AWAY FROM IT GOOD LORD IN HEAVEN-

Mimi saying "I want to do SO many things!" is refreshing my soul.  I know she's one of the most shippable Chosen, but honestly, if not for the fact that she has a kid that is clearly biologically hers, I would assume that she's too busy doing EVERYTHING to have a family.  My headache recedes just a touch.

Hmm...  I actually really like what Sulky (Yams) is trying to say here.  "I don't want to be with everyone because I'm Chosen.  I want to be with Gabumon because he's my friend," basically.  Part of me sides with Jyou- dude we all get that, it's not a shameful secret- but another part of me...  Deeply appreciates that Yams can separate his duty as a Chosen from his bond with his digimon.  Gabumon is his best friend, his number one.  It doesn't matter if Gabumon can't fight, if Yamato can never digivolve him again. It doesn't even matter that he's a digimon.  It just matters that they're friends, and that they be together somehow, which may seem a more tenuous position by the day.  ...Now I'm sad.  Well played, stage play.  This moment is wonderful.

...Annnnnnd now Yamato is overacting to hell, and I'm laughing instead of thinking and feeling, was that supposed to happen?  Sigh. I still don't understand why he has to be SO SECRETIVE about it, but I mean...  That's our Yams??? 

And now we're back to Kou and Taichi, and they're pulling at each other's throats, as they will, and honestly this is the only "NOW KISS" moment for me, but where was I-

In all seriousness, I really like that the person to finally, FINALLY get the truth from Taichi is Koushiro.  That's how it often was in Adventure too, yes?  But I almost feel like Taichi's breakdown here is a reflection of what fans said in Saikai.  Taichi in Adventure always took action (although he grew so much during Adventure, I'd argue the version of himself he's referencing now wasn't there by the end of Adventure?). He can't fight in Saikai because he's concerned about hurting people/property/the tenuous relationship between humans and digimon.  He can't take action...  But the ability to see that is an indication of growth, not regression.  Will he understand that here?  

Ok god, Agu-chan is dropping some truth bombs...  And the way he and his puppeteer crawl...  I swear these goddamm puppets will be the death of me.

The use of screens and images in the stage play are really fun!  It must have been awesome to see this show in person O__o;;

 AHHHHH OKAY OKAY I have no idea how I’m going to analyze this.  My surface thought is that this play features a lot of the emotions and inner thoughts of individual characters that can’t fit into Tri, and that (I personally think) Tri suffers from a lack of.  Because there isn’t really ship bait and maneuvering around a new character and plot, we’re able to see relationships that feel much more familiar to Adventure than we often see in Tri (ie, Taichi worried about Hikari, Koushiro worried about Taichi, etc).  As you noticed, I’m very unhappy with the way the play pushes the payoff back as far as possible, cramming it into an AMAZING twenty minutes or so...  But I loved those twenty minutes.

Also, Koushiro feels waaaay more like Koushiro than he does in Tri, except for Kokuhaku.  As your local insane Koushiro fan girl, I am standing and applauding and screaming and crying.  NO PERVY KOUSHIRO.  NO FASHION DISASTERS.  Just Koushiro being supportive and apt and sweet and trying so hard.  I am refreshed.  I am younger.

And the passion and love and energy that went into us, so visibly in human form...  I can’t describe how wonderful the actors and the puppeteers were.  And even though I kind of hated Etemon, his actor was incredible.

So the stage play has amazing points and really irritating points, but on the whole, it’s my second favorite thing Tri has given us (following Kokuhaku).  I will try to write about it more smart-like soon!  If you got this far...  I’m in awe, lol!  High five, my friend!

Day 3 - Games and Such

I have more with video games, but also a lot of them are player characters so it’s…complicated, really.

I’ve got Yūya from the first persona (sort of, since I’ve split that character in three people), I also have a note for Maki as asexual (I’m a little unsure now), and Yū is ace-spec (Persona 4).

Several of the pokêmon protagonists (in reference to the games, I remember Red, Brendan/Yuki, Ethan/Hibiki, but I feel like there are more) are ace-spec, I headcanon my Mahariel as asexual.

I also have notes for Mitsuru as demi-bisexual, and I feel it’s a good one.

I am fond of the idea of Morrigan being asexual, or ace-spec. Yet, I haven’t gotten into “this is my version of canon, I love it” so I might eventually move away from it.

I didn’t talk about them yesterday, since I was a bit confused about what category they were in, but I fell in love with Sora and Taichi being asexual. I’ve actually decided Sora ace-spec while Taichi feels no sexual attraction. I have others I’ve been working with in regards to a future fic (all these vague references to fics…) - like one of Jyou’s older brothers is aroace, Wallace (Willis) is demi-bi (Sora’s demi-pan) and Ryō is also asexual, but none of the other characters are ace. At least I haven’t decided on some of them - I feel like a lot of them are gonna be queer though.

So, this is late, so my bad. I might have more, but I don’t want to search my notes (and if I have no notes, then I just don’t remember it). Close enough to yesterday I guess.

I never really thought too much about what sexual orientations the Chosen Children in Adventure 01 and 02 could have, but... Now that I did think about it, I realize that I'm actually pretty set on some headcanons (linked to either personal ship preferencies or general observations. I'm always happy to discuss btw!). Spoiler: The epilogue may have implied a lot of heteronormativity, but in my head, none of them really comes off as "simply straight".

Taichi: Bi-demisexual. Someone pointed out to me once that he never really seemed to big on the "wanting to date" side, but once he cares about someone, he cares a whole lot. He obviously has the protagonist bonus in getting along with several characters well and, upon asking different parts of the fandom, people will confirm that his behaviour towards male and female characters alike can be read as romantic - Yamato, Sora, Koushirou, Meiko, you name it. Even if he's much more lowkey in approaching the person in question. I do see him becoming quite passionate once he got together with whomever he fancies. Kizuna at least implied a somewhat canon interest in women, even if that may be seen as a joke or compensation. (Pan/Poly!Taichi is also a fun angle to look at, by the way!)

Yamato: Repressed bisexual. I'm still not over how Adventure/Tri's subtext basically told me he's suppressing all the feelings he had for Taichi in the most frustrating way. And the way he reacts towards Jyou once opening up to him is very telling too. Him being in love with Sora is a given after all.

Koushirou: 100% demisexual, bi-oriented. I'll be honest, prior to Tri, I wouldn't have seen any indication of him being interested in the female gender at all, but his crush on Mimi there obviously proved me wrong. Personally, I see him as a person who needs to have a connection to another person to be able to develop - and even accept - having feelings and the desire to be close to them. And while one can obviously read his relationship with Taichi as purely platonic as well, it ticks off a lot of boxes in my personal "introvert who gets validated and accepted by person X and opens up naturally and genuinely when being with them, so developping feelings shouldn't be too unlikely" box. I'm biased here and you know it. (I mean, it's easy to put him into the asexual category, but he feels so much like someone who'd just bloom once he has opened up to someone.)

Sora: My gut gravitates towards bi/pansexual, although she would suppress that side of herself for a looooong time and would basically force herself to conform to heteronormative expectations and such the same way she'd (somewhat) conform to "typically female" characteristics - I don't want more suffering for Sora, but she needs time to come to terms with herself. The bearer of the Crest of Love loves warmly and intensely (which manifests in her being the one who confessed to Yamato first), but it'll take a while (and probably the help of Mimi) to get to a place where she is 100% comfortable.

Mimi: This may sound surprising, but I do see her somewhere on the ace spectrum, mainly attracted to women. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember her actively swooning over someone else (like Miyako) or showing an effort to confess to someone (like Sora). She's genuine and kind in her affections to others - especially towards Sora, Miyako and Meiko, but also very apparent towards Jyou. But it's mainly just her friendly self - and despite her knowing that Koushirou seems to like her, she still treats him like everyone else, no reservations, still as kind as always. (Spoiler: Stageplay!Mimi confirms that she doesn't have feelings for anyone, but that she's rather interested in learning who Sora likes.) I could definitely see her ending up with one of the girls eventually.

Jyou: Leans very heavily into classic bisexual as well, officially confirmed to have a girlfriend at least (still mad that we never met her ;A;), I still maintain that he at least used to crush on Mimi - and I simply cannot not think that he had also the biggest crush on Yamato... There's no way he didn't like him like that.

Takeru: Despite his flirtatious side in 02 and onwards, I do see him on the ace spectrum, bi-romantic - sometimes I feel like his ladies-man-persona in Tri was just compensation and he wasn't really... Feeling it. He feels very strongly about the people close and dear to him and while I do see him and Hikari more on a deep, deep bromantic level, I'd just say that, once he's letting someone get close, he'd be big on the physical affection side - without getting too sexual at all. (And just like Mimi, I rather see him interested in the relationships of others than his own.)

Hikari: I have a hard time deciding between "asexual, demi-romantic" and "demisexual, bi-oriented (like a true Yagami)". All I can say is, I feel like once someone gets through to her on a personal level, her feelings may get really intense and she may not always know how to deal with it (as seen when she didn't know how to deal with Miyako's intensity towards her at first - I'd even say that she may have been her very first crush. She does feel a connection to Takeru, obviously, but in my eyes, that took a pretty, pretty long time to manifest. I also wouldn't mind them just being platonic life partners.)

Daisuke: Pansexual, absolutely and thoroughly, probably was in a phase similarly to Sora, but once he's accepted it, it's 100% commitment. The crush on Hikari as well as what he has with Ken are easy indicators (and nobody can convince me that he didn't have the biggest crush on Taichi). He's a kind boy and the love he has to give radiates a lot of warmth.

Miyako: Pansexual as well, 100%. There isn't even much to say here, it's pretty much text that she's getting easily attracted to all kinds of people - from Mimi to Michael to Ken - then there's Hikari, Koushirou, probably... She goes where her heart takes her and I'm living for it.

Iori: He is probably the most difficult to pinpoint besides Takeru, because he was just TOO YOUNG and it'd be too easy/boring to just make him asexual, and even if Kizuna didn't give away too much, too me, he just seems so comfortable with not caring about things like dating, etc.

Ken: 200% bi-demisexual, similarly to how it goes down for Hikari. Him getting married to Miyako is a given - and then I'd still maintain that him and Daisuke are pretty much t e x t...

Oh my God, that would be absolutely amazing! I haven't followed much of Once Piece ever since the timeskip took place, but I definitely need to elaborate further on what powers they would then have.

For my magical girl/boy AU, I stereotypically assigned elemental powers to them and I assume one could definitely elaborate on this further. The following won't make too much sense, since I'm pretty damn sleepy, but I'm gonna try at least.

Taichi: Fire (could be similar to Ace, but that would be a little too generic)

Yamato: Ice (we could also turn him into a werewolf though!)

Sora: Wind/Air (same with her being a harpy or something similar to that, thus enabling her to fly)

Koushirou: Electricity/Lighting (I love the idea of him being capable of connecting to electronic devices through simple touch, he'd definitely be the ultimate hacker like that)

Mimi: Plants/Earth (basically controlling all kinds of plant based environments around her)

Jyou: Water (probably the second most difficult/contradicting to conduct, since he couldn't swim...)

Takeru: Hope (basically the most difficult to pinpoint, maybe he'd ACTUALLY be able to sense vileness in others - or spotting liars?)

Hikari: Light (maybe she'd be able to somewhat have an influence on other people's emotions due to her hyper empathy - for example, making people cry by crying herself, but she would absolutely refuse to do something like that)
