ok good news everyone. i did do all these things (everybody clap i managed to change my sheets even after my dangerous big salad tonight queen) AND i also cropped some stuff (a couple shirts, a couple jeans into jorts (i'll have new shorts soon >:))) AND i also went through a bunch of stuff in my dresser and made two whole bags of things to send away to fabric recycling and a bag of stuff to put in the basement to sell later, including all those stupid clothes i listed on depop that nobody's buying bc i'm so tired of shuffling them around every day. of course now that those clothes are in the basement they're going to vanish from my brain but at least they're not actively in my way anymore. and then since i'd finally cleared room in my dresser i was able to PUT AWAY MY LAUNDRY YAAAAAY!!! and i had room for my new pants!! i didn't tell you guys about this but i hit the jackpot with some cool cargo pants from old navy of all places which i immediately ordered in another color. and i DID get a pair of linen blend elastic waist pants from asos. big win. also i started three (3) sets of returns from the big orders i placed after i finalized what i was keeping. still have to bring the kohls stuff in person but everything else is taken care of as soon as i drop them at ups. there's so much less stuff on my bed now that i got rid of all those clothes. oh also i brought my little air purifier from before i upgraded in JANUARY down to the basement finally so now i won't feel like there's an obstacle keeping me from opening my bottom two drawers of my dresser and maybe i'll put stuff away more often. wouldn't that be nice

i really think the only things i’m going to manage today are to put in my new ac, take a shower, and change my sheets. that’s it

additionally:

the word “genderqueer” didn’t exist before the 90s. the word “non-binary” didn’t exist before the 2000s. even the word “transgender” didn’t get popularized until the 90s; it was primarily “transsexual” until then. for a long time “gender non-conforming” was perhaps the best umbrella

which means there were always people in the “lesbian” community who weren’t binary women and who used butch and femme, and our history has long, shared roots too

just look at Leslie Feinberg and hir books “Stone Butch Blues” and “Transgender Liberation.” look at S. Bear Bergman and “Butch Is A Noun.” also look at Joan Nestle’s “The Persistent Desire: A Femme-Butch Reader” and its argument that butch and femme can be gender identities in themselves (and its documentation of the 40s and 50s)

there have also long been “border wars” between butch women and trans men; halberstam and c. jacob hale have some very informative joint writing with opposing views that both acknowledge the historical contention

finally, and what i know least about, while butch and femme certainly originated in lesbian (before bi or nb were words) spaces, they have also historically been used by gay (again before bi was a word) men, though not to the same extent. that’s a whole argument about boundaries i don’t wanna get into but it has certainly happened

all of which is to say: yes, butch and femme emerged in a wlw context, but that context always already included bi women and nblw, was always complicated by trans men, and was also used by gay and bi men too. any historical argument about them being sapphic-only is actually ahistorical wishful thinking, so find another argument

bonus: “asexual” also didn’t exist as a word til the 2000s and there’s lots of documentation that we were under the bi umbrella - which again means before “bi” was a word, we were under the “lesbian” umbrella

kernel of truth: being too rigidly attached to the Form you have Pictured can mean a) missing out on great things, many of which are Close but get blocked out by a narrow filter; and/or b) chiseling at people in your life to Fit Better into that Spot in your life and thus harming them

giant log in eye of not addressing Culture Around Relationship Shapes: ...this gets proclaimed louder the more you diverge from The Default Shape. and less about your rigidity in only accepting your Ideal Shape, but instead about wanting/envisioning that at all. it rapidly becomes about “thou shalt not want That Certain Shape”

hey, sometimes “approximately a Hexagon” is a great search term and will match you with a sparse handful of other Hexagonish-seekers. so yes, thinking about and describing shapes can help filter, not rule everyone out. yes, of course you then have to be careful to observe if there is some unanticipated quality of your Hexagon Match (whether shape-related, like roundedness of corners, or not, like eye-searing lime green) that needs considering

telling people to stick to the shapes they find around them is like. for one, so wtf in an era of internet and global travel - you literally don’t have to. and two, hey, what we recognize as a Shape is already shaped (lmao) by what’s gotten Named and Taught and Reproduced as a Shape! so in saying “thou shalt not desire Specific (Unusual) Shapes” you’re blocking that shape from being a Shape.

like god fine if you don’t want to see more than convex/concave polygons then fine, but insisting that’s all the categories anyone should need and that wanting anything more detailed is some setup for disappointment... is bleak and antagonistic, no matter that the extreme end case of “only accepting this exact scribble-thing i drew” is problems

anyway it’s almost like the monogamous romantisexual default needs to be addressed whenever giving advice about how envisioning relationships/structures has to be Tempered by Reality
