new sherlock holmes headcanon just dropped
This text is from The Man with the Twisted Lip
First of all I love imagining this little face of disappointment that Mary (because I'm assuming it's Mary) is making here. ☹️
John being tired :( because he just wants to chill out with his wife
First of all we love mary for this ❤️😍 she is such a supportive loving queen
Second of all THESE TWO ARE WIVES END OF STORY
Who is James yall 👀 🤔 not Sir Arthur Conan Doyle forgetting the name of his own character 😭
Mary be like: "I can send my husband (who is gay for Sherlock Holmes) away and we can have some alone time (good luck babe is playing in the background)
(good luck babe gets louder) "old friend and school companion" come on guys we all know what THAT means
Kate: "My husband (who I married because I'm in denial about the fact that im in love with you mary) is being a druggie and I'm worried about him. Can you help me??
Anyway that's pretty much it. Mary Watson and Kate Whitney guys.

A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA part 3 (part 1) (part 2)! the 'goodnight Mr Holmes' illustration is a direct reference to the Paget one, and Holmes is playing Symphony No. 6 (Pathétique Symphony) if you wanna listen along. And it really is canon that Watson sleeps over at Baker St here for uhhh no discernible reason
This is in the Watson's Sketchbook series!
#pls picture watson doing the walk of shame into his house the next day#mary like “did you finally talk to him?”#watson like “.......no”#my art#watsons sketchbook#sherlock holmes#acd holmes#acd canon#irene adler#john watson

you all are saying that watson is not "just a normal guy" in the slightest and his levels of romanticism and drama are insane and he fell in love with their client from the first sight and literally married that woman after knowing her for a few days
this is all very correct and true but consider
these feelings are very mutual and mary morstan wholeheartedly agreed to marry watson after knowing him for a few days she IS on the same level of insane romanticism as him

Yk I’m reading through ACD Canon and I’ve only gotten to about halfway through the Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes but I find it extremely amusing how little Mary Morstan appears.
Like John Watson really married this woman and then spent the rest of his life making vague allusions to her before going “ANYWAY now onto my much more interesting and very close friend and companion Sherlock Holmes, who is the light of my life” and I respect him for that.

Nothing bad will happen to them in the Alps. Ever.
[ID: a digital drawing of Holmes and Watson walking along a stoney path. They're both carrying hiking sticks and Watson has a backpack. Holmes is leading them and pointing forward with an enthusiastic smile, pulling Watson along by the wrist. Watson looks up in awe at an off-screen waterfall. /End ID]

Mary Morstan reading The Sign of the Four and seeing the passages where Watson was professing her love to her despite the fact that her version of it was watching Holmes and Watson gaze into each other’s eyes lovingly and sneak off on their own then living together again afterwards and having very little contact with her again, connecting the dots and realising she was a plot device.

agreed, mary as described in SIGN sounds like exactly the sort of level headed person people would turn to for sensible help.
Letters from Watson: The Man with the Twisted Lip
Published: December 1891 Set: June of 1889 (Canon Dates) June 1887 (Baring Gould: Ridiculous) Once again, Baring-Gould unnecessarily changes the year. He believes that Mary doesn't fit the description of "Folk who were in grief came to my wife like birds to a light-house," so he sets this during his invented first marriage for Watson. I think this is selling Mary short in many ways. What we know of her character from The Sign of The Four is that she solves problems decisively: when faced with a sketchy meeting with an unknown man she she hires Holmes and Watson to assist. Her statement of the facts of her case is organized and clear, and during the case she's helpful in all the ways that Holmes isn't - comforting the servants of the murdered Sholto, for example. It's a pity that she never gets to collaborate further with Watson and Holmes in later stories, and an even greater pity that I haven't encountered any modern treatments that let her bring her own specialties into the business of deduction. She has a good eye for clues and, especially in a Victorian setting, an untapped well of knowledge that Holmes and Watson would necessarily be ignorant of.

My favourite thing about ACD Johnlock is that you can essentially just cite the entire existing text as evidence. We don't even need evidence at this point, it's just there. It's a love story. The only people we have to convince are the people who haven't read them.
#seriously like anyone who ships Sherlock and Irene hasn't read the book#anyone who ships Mary and John after Empty House hasn't read Empty House#anyone who thinks Sherlock Holmes is at all interested in women has obviously not read any of the books#John Watson could have written in a relationship between Holmes and a woman at any time#but also imagine reading Sherlock Holmes from a heteronormative lens#it must make no sense?#acd johnlock#acd holmes#acd canon#sherlock holmes#sherlock fandom#johnlock

So, i was thinking.
Sherlock Holmes obviously HATES 'passion crimes', as they are sometimes called (eg, cardboard box). One spouse kill the other and the person the other cheated with, or kiss one for baseless jealousy etcetc, and this might also be one of the reasons why he has such a low opinion on romantic (how to find any fault in it!).
But also, Sherlock Holmes, a man who cares so, so, so much and has an incredibly big heart, doing cocaine to cleanse the details of those cases from his mind, when he's young and when he's still not so sure of Watson and his affection towards him and exactly how much he can tell the good doctor. And then they get together and start aging together. Holmes dies and comes back and quits cocaine. And Watson is always there to remind him that life is much better than the awful, ugly case they just solved together. Watson is there to kiss him and hug him tight, shielding Holmes from his own thoughts going always back to what he just solved.
Watson is there instead of his 7% solution, much more stable and reliable than the injection. Holding him tight and keeping him together when all the awful things they saw in the cases come back to Holmes' mind.
Holmes starting to jokingly call Watson his 100% solution, since he has no need to dilute him.
And of course, whenever the thunder has the voice of the cannon or Watson is also having a hard time with memories Holmes is there for him, playing for him, reading for him, holding him close, making him listen to his heartbeat, bringing Watson back to the safety of 221b first and then to that of their cottage.
Don't come for my head <3
#victorian husbands#acd sherlock holmes#acd john watson#sherlock holmes#john watson#i was thinking specifically to granada cardboard box as i imagined this#headcanon#i guess#and how Jeremy played Holmes as they found mary's body#holmes has a big heart and cares so much
