Well the dnc had a pretty shocking run of good choices, as expected they fumbled trying to garner support from Republicans in an almost surprisingly stupid way!

I’m back from my coma to talk about Nimona again
Specifically these scenes
Because this is the moment where the similarities between Gloreth and Ambrosius’ stories end
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At face value, these scenes seem incredibly similar
In both scenes, Gloreth and Ambrosius are watching terrified as their homes are burning down around them because of a “monster”
But that’s where the similarities stop
Because in the first scene, Gloreth decides to listen to everything that her community has told her
And in the second scene, Ambrosius has finally figured out that everything he’s been told since he was a kid is a lie

there’s a question to be asked i think about to what extent “getting out” can be conflated with “being saved” in this show, and what freedom actually means to any of these characters.
like you can argue that shiv saved ken by voting against him on gojo, but what if your intent behind saving someone is to inflict a worse punishment than if you’d just left them trapped? can a child weaned on poison survive on milk, or are you just sentencing them to a death by inches, starved of the only thing they know? and if you save someone specifically because you know that being saved is the worst thing that can happen to them, is that kindness or cruelty? at what point does a good thing become a malicious act?
and you can say that roman is finally free, but what exactly is he free from? the company? his father? does unlocking a cage mean saving a dog, or are you allowing him out on the street knowing there’s a kill shelter nearby? if the driving anxiety behind roman is that he’s an idiot and a failure—that he’ll never amount to anything, and trying will only lead to pain—and he’s finally cut loose once all of those anxieties have crystallized into cold hard fact in his mind, what has he actually escaped from? if the cage is in your mind, is it even possible for somebody else to unlock it?
the fundamental truth of a tragedy is that even being saved can be a death sentence, if the characters are incapable of escaping the thing doing them the most harm (themselves and their childhoods)
#'what about shiv' if i think about shiv i'm going to kill myself. she needs her own post. there's too much there to get into.#anyways seeing a tremendous amount of At Least Roman Is Free <3 tags that have me going. right. for sure. free from what?#because it's certainly not the intense amount of self disgust that has driven him in circles this entire time.#i fear he may feel the weight of alienation on his soul for the rest of his life. and he won't even try to alleviate it anymore.#and ALSO the idea that shiv went out of her way to save kendall as an act of like. altruism. like it was a sacrifice on her part#which i feel is a very toothless perspective on shiv and the psychological torment that's been weighing on her essentially since birth#like her choice in regards to gojo is one of the meatiest most harrowing bits of character work i've ever seen#and while of course there was love inside that action (because nothing these characters do is entirely divorced from love)#i don't think it was necessarily a kind or forgiving or sacrificial love#like this was an intense vitriolic snapping from a dog that has been kicked by her dad all her life.#and who absolutely refuses to accept that from her brother (because that would mean acknowledging that kendall takes the mantle of Dad-#and that she's subservient to him. which is the one thing she absolutely will never do#because it's a level of degradation that's finally a step too far)#anyways. um. insane season that i still can't look at directly or i'll perish on the spot.#succession

Its such an interesting choice for DAA to make the main character and former slave POC and queer, her slaver a White Man that doesn't understand that she doesnt belong to him and cant take "no" for an answer, and her problematic love interest a White Woman who agrees that there's things wrong with the system that has oppressed the main character, but is very much absolutely willing to bargain the main character's freedom to meet her own ends.

Ever think about Date’s view on family and how that relates to his character? When Mizuki asks him to define family, he just awkwardly offers that its like being blood related to someone. It leaves a bitter taste in his mouth and Mizukis, but like, he literally had no idea what a real family looks like. He’s an orphan, a man who grew up with no family and no name, but he doesn’t know that yet. He has no memory of his past, no way of knowing if there’s someone out there waiting for him to come home, if he even had a place to call home. His only frame of reference for a family is Mizuki and her parents. Deep down he knows it’s not right, not loving, but it fits the mold of a nuclear family, man and woman, blood related, so that must be what family is. When he’s asked to take in Mizuki, he’s absolutely clueless because he literally has zero frame of reference for how a child is supposed to be cared for. He puts distance between them because this isn’t his place, he doesn’t have the right to love this child as his own because he isn’t the real dad. There’s no place for someone like him in a family. And it’s baffling to him to hear that Mizuki not only loves him, she needs him because he is her family. Date believes he’s a nobody, just a sad, lonely man with no name who absolutely does not deserve this kind of love. But he has it anyway because he chooses it, he makes something that neither he nor Mizuki have ever had before. HES HOME

spectra joining the battle brawlers is so funny to me because mira's like "this is my older brother keith" and the brawlers' are like, in almost perfect unison, "you mean our older brother keith." literally "if you didnt wanna be part of our interdimensional found family u shouldve killed us when you had the chance" kinda beat.

This is just an idea but
What if you made a whiteboard and invited everyone on stream to join it? Just a fun thought is all!
picturing this made me Scream In Fear and also run shrieking into the woods, never to be seen again

80 - The Final Cut
...so, you have made your choice.
Do you remember what I once said, my light? That the bonds you break may make you stronger? And oh, what a brilliant fire you've made from those bridges, as rudely incandescent as the sun itself.
...I can hardly stand to look at it, it stings my eyes so...
For the final time then, let me roll out the red carpet and bid you welcome to my kingdom. No subjects shall resist your entry, as there are none to defend this place... I have to wonder if you planned it that way, but I'm not certain you were even thinking that far ahead. They would not be able to stop you in any case.
I see the twisted sword in your hand, o Lightbringer, its tortured edges baying for something to sunder... but there'll be no satisfaction for you here. Even if I wanted to FIGHT, even if I were capable of standing against you as an equal... that would just be playing into your twisted game, where statistical superiority is all. And it is not a game I have any interest in playing.
So then... will you proceed? Will you reap the bitter harvest of your conquest of this world, and run your sword through my unguarded heart? Will you then march on to plant your flag in the ruins of your hubris...?
...but what am I saying? You've come this far, why stop at the final bump in the road? After all, you and I both know this isn't real, and that none of this even matters... if it ever even did to you in the first place.
And then I suppose you'll go back, wont you? Back to before you broke it all over your knee, just to see if you could. Because you can. And if you can, then why not? Such is the luxury your godhood affords you.
Then all that is left to say is: thank you for playing our game, Lightbringer. I hope that you had fun.

something about eddie not being able to look at buck as buck looks at him and asks him to help him make sense of it all, of how his life could’ve ended but it didn’t and doesn’t that have to mean something, but eddie can’t look at him, can’t give him an answer more than “it means you’re a lucky guy.” something about how divided they feel, with eddie trying to tell buck he doesn’t have to pretend to be anything for anyone and buck being so tunnel-visioned on what he doesn’t have that he can’t see the love beside him for what it is, with eddie trying to help buck realize he’s making the same mistakes and buck insisting it’s different, and then with this, with eddie not being able to look at buck in this moment after everything that’s been said....
