Opinion: dancing scenes trigger my "doomed couple" senses

alternatively: writers using dancing as an engine to throttle the doomed storyline full speed to make sure the knife cuts through us clean. Note: Also used as an allegory for queer love when they cant just go "these bitches gay"

gonna need another week or two for the next chapter of ABJ -- between a friend's wonderful bachelorette weekend, an orchestra concert, work, and getting engaged 💍💍💍, I was really counting on getting a lot of writing done this weekend only to be thwarted by rainy, cloudy weather that makes me immobile and sleepy 🫠 SORRY Y'ALL, just want to make sure I'm giving myself the time I need to write the story I want to tell you

There's an odd baton-shaped thing tucked into a corner of the locker that catches your eye. It tickles something in your memory, even though you've never seen anything like it.  It's simple-looking, and prettier for it. Nearly a foot long, black with thick gray stripes raised over its surface – probably an artful way of making it easier to grip. One end sports a small arc of metal jutting out perpendicularly to the rest of the contraption. The business end, you reason. You don't remember taking ahold of it, but it's in your hand now. Your thumb traces bands of cold metal. It's heavier than you expected. This thing could definitely do some damage, if you swung it at someone's– "Don't." His voice is low, commanding, and entirely too close.
