Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) on Wednesday hit back at GOP pundit Scott Jennings after he appeared to link the response of Los Angeles firefighters battling devastating wildfires to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Jennings had turned to talk of DEI — a term conservatives have used as a racist dog whistle — while citing efforts by a program in California meant to diversify firefighting, a profession that NPR noted is “overwhelmingly white and male.” ″We have DEI, we have budget cuts, and yet I’m wondering now, if your house was burning down, how much do you care what color the firefighters are?” Jennings said on a “CNN NewsNight” panel. Crockett swiftly shut him down. “The fact is, stop trying to act as if only white men are the ones that are capable because right now, you’re sitting at a table with three very capable Black women,” said Crockett, who was joined by Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-Virgin Islands) and host Abby Phillip on the panel. Moments earlier, Crockett noted that conservatives have shared social media posts about Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin M. Crowley, who has been with the department for over two decades, being a woman.

“That has nothing to do with it. We are looking at qualifications,” said Crockett of Crowley, the first woman and LGBTQ+ person to lead the department. “What diversity, equity and inclusion has always been about is saying, ‘You know what, open this up. Don’t just look at the white men. Open it up and recognize that other people can be qualified.’” She continued by questioning why conservatives would “decide that a country of immigrants is failing” or that “people are dying” because of the “same very people that built this country.”

Here is what Ronald Reagan was saying about the Evil Empire in 1981 when Vladimir V. Putin was an officer in the Soviet secret police there.

Change a few words and it could sound like Reagan is describing today's MAGA Republican Party.

So fast forward about 40 years and this is what some people are wearing to Trump rallies.

Anti-vax nut Aaron Rogers, in that clip at the top, praised Putin for the way he "talked about the history of his country". Rogers apparently doesn't know the difference between history and disinformation. Rogers wants people to think he's really bright but he demonstrates again what a brainless dupe of Putin he really is.

The US Embassy in Kyiv published this funny but historically accurate meme which people should keep in mind when Putin claims that Russia is historically the mother (or whatever) of Ukraine.

A conservative commentator was given the boot from CNN in the middle of a show after a “completely unacceptable” attack on a fellow panelist. “I hope your beeper doesn’t go off,” right-wing personality Ryan Girdusky told Mehdi Hasan after Hasan said he supports Palestinian people. Last month, hundred of pagers held by suspected Hezbollah operatives across Lebanon exploded in an attack widely believed to have been carried out by Israel. At least 37 people were killed, including two children, and thousands were injured.

“Did you just say I should die?” Hasan asked in disbelief. “Did you just say I should be killed on live TV?” “No, I did not say that,” Girdusky said. “You said you hope my beeper doesn’t go off,” Hasan pointed out. Girdusky asked Hasan if he supports Hamas. “I said ‘Palestinians,’” Hasan said. “Then I apologize, I apologize,” Girdusky said. “I thought he said Hamas, I apologize.” “This is America in 2024,” Hasan said. “Forget the racism. It’s I should die.” When Girdusky claimed he didn’t say that, Hasan pressed him to explain what he meant with the “beeper” comment:

After a commercial break, Girdusky was gone ― and host Abby Phillip issued an apology to Hasan as well as to CNN viewers. “We want discussion. We want people who disagree with each other to talk to each other,” she said. “But when you cross the line of a complete lack of civility, that is not going to happen here on this show.”

CNN released a statement saying there is “zero room for racism or bigotry” on the network and that Girdusky won’t be back. “We aim to foster thoughtful conversations and debate including between people who profoundly disagree with each other in order to explore important issues and promote mutual understanding,” the statement said. “But we will not allow guests to be demeaned or for the line of civility to be crossed.”

Appearing on CNN’s NewsNight Monday, right-wing blowhard Ryan Girdusky took a blatant anti-Palestinian cheapshot at former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan by telling him “I hope your beeper doesn’t go off.”

Hasan was rightly incensed by Girdusky’s inane anti-Palestinian bigoted jab.

CNN then kicked Girdusky off the set and banned him from appearing on the channel over such remarks.

Another day, another Russian war crime. This time Putin killed a two-month old baby and injured his mother.

The baby's body was pulled out of the rubble of the three-storey building in the village of Zolochiv, said Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Synehubov. Two other women were hurt when Russia fired two S-300 missiles, he said, hitting the hotel and nearby buildings. Attacks on the Kharkiv region have intensified since the end of 2023. Zolochiv is only 20km (12 miles) from the Russian border and too close for Ukraine's air defences to offer sufficient cover. The S-300s that hit the hotel in the early hours of Tuesday were originally produced as surface-to-air missiles for Russia's air defences, but they have been adapted to hit Ukrainian targets on the ground. They are seen as cheaper than more accurate cruise missiles.

So Russia is running low on cruise missiles and is forced to substitute S-300s which were originally meant to his targets in the air.

Putin may be low on cruise missiles but one of his top US cheerleaders is in Moscow to pay homage to him.

Tucker Carlson reminds me of those US pro-Hitler commentators who would use their radio shows in the 1930s to extol the virtues of fascism.

Tucker is supposed to interview Putin but he isn't waiting for the interview to spread lies about the US news media. CNN's Abby Phillip does an effortless debunking of Tucker Carlson's Kremlin bullshit and then speaks with Russia specialist Julia Ioffe.

There's an entire ecosystem of far right mendacity which includes Putin, sex offender Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, Speaker "MAGA Mike" Johnson, and various Congressional toadies like Marjorie Traitor Greene. They are united in their hatred of democracy and will tell any lie to damage it.
