DC Comics Goes "All In" and Introduces New "Absolute" Universe and Updated Core Line of Comic Books
"DC All In" is DC Comics' new line-wide initiative that will include new reimagined universes for the DC characters as well as an ongoing line of core titles.
After the events of Absolute Power, DC's All In initiative will begin with a single-issue mega-event flipbook. All In Special #1 is written by Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson. When read one direction the art is by Daniel Sampere and in the other direction the art is by Wes Craig.
The DC heroes "have fought against the deep divisions in the world around them to usher in a new era of unity.
And it’s just in time, too—because Darkseid has returned! Superman gathers every DC Super Hero on Earth to hold the line against a vastly different version of the Lord of Apokolips as they raise our cosmic defenses and prepare for war. And when the first blows land, the shock waves will ripple across DC’s core series, shaking the nature of their realities to their very foundation!" (DC Comics)
All In Special #1 goes on sale on October 2, 2024. The main cover is by Daniel Sampere with variant covers by Rafa Sandoval, Wes Craig, and John Giang.
All In Special #1 will set the stage for the Absolute Universe, in which the heroes of the DC Universe come of age with fewer advantages.
Absolute Batman, from Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta, explores a Batman that has no money, mansion, or butler. Issue #1 on sale October 9, 2024.
Absolute Wonder Woman, from Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman, explores a Diana with no island home, no sisterhood, and not even a mission of peace. Issue #1 on sale October 23, 2024.
Absolute Superman, from Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval, explores a Superman with no family, Fortress of Solitude, and no home. Issue #1 on sale November 6, 2024.
DC Comics' core titles will also be starting new storylines in October 2024.
Batman #153-154, from Chip Zdarsky, Jorge Jimenez, and Carmine Di Giandomenico, begins "The Dying City" story with the Riddler, a new super hero named Commander Star, and a murder.
Detective Comics #1090, from Tom Taylor and Mikel Janin, begins the "Mercy of the Father" story. "Years after the tragic murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne, a ghost from Gotham City's past has been lying in wait to strike at Batman ever since that fateful night in Crime Alley." (DC Comics)
Action Comics #1070-1073 features 2 stories - "Death of the Phantom Zone" from Mark Waid and Clayton Henry, which spins out directly from Absolute Power and Batman/Superman World's Finest, and "Supergirl: Universe End" from Mariko Tamaki and Skylar Patridge.
Superman #19, from Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora, begins a new arc spinning out of Absolute Power. Superman and Lois Lane Superwoman are dealing with the return of Doomsday, wondering how long Lois' powers will last, and another enemy lurking in the shadows - the Time Trapper.
Wonder Woman #14, from Tom King and Daniel Sampere, sees the tide "turning in Wonder Woman's battle against the Sovereign as Steve Trevor takes matters into his own hands, with deadly consequences. But Steve's end could be the beginning of Diana's greatest adventure yet - motherhood!" (DC Comics)
Green Arrow #350 is an oversized anniversary issue with legacy numbering. The issue will close out Joshua Williamson's run on the title as "Oliver Queen faces the aftermath of his actions in Absolute Power, having done the unthinkable to protect his loved ones, and the ramifications of his involvement may have gone too far for his family and friends to forgive." (DC Comics) The issue will also debut the first chapter in new creative team Chris Condon and Montos' run.
Check out Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson's video announcement of DC All In here.

Why do you think DC wanted to boot PKJ off Action Comics ?
Anonymous asked: Expectations for Aaron writing Action?
Well I was working on a NYCC 2023 post, and unfortunately the damn thing suddenly deleted itself. Left me totally drained seeing all that hard work gone, so I'm going to keep it short this go around.
Aaron is a very similar writer to PKJ in both tone and style. If he were taking over for the long term I'd be cautiously optimistic - but he's only doing three issues. Doesn't matter if he sucks or is great, he'll be gone in a blink of the eye. Leaves me with no strong feelings regarding him.
Pitch sounds cool, it's the Multiverse Bizarro that Tomasi used. It will be darker in tone and Bizarro has a new power seemingly. Waid consulted and Aaron says he "passed the Waid test". Shows how influential that Waid has become that he's being brought in to help the other Superman writers. Once an editor always an editor. Timms on art is fine, he's not an artist I have strong feelings for but I liked his work on Son of Kal-El and his brief Superman run with PKJ. Given Bizarro was on the cover of Williamson's first issue but is showing up here, I wonder if this is just Williamson farming out a story to Aaron that he didn't have time for himself anymore.
After Aaron, Williamson takes over for "House of Brainiac" which is the big Superman crossover story. Brainiac wants to find his Queen and is unleashing his Bottled City of Czarnia to get her. Supes, the Superfamily, Lex, and Lobo team up to stop him. Great pitch - but Williamson writing another event by himself is a huge red flag. He's 0/2 on events thus far and my concerns had previously been soothed by the assumption that PKJ would help him this time, which sadly is not the case. If it's shit at least we get to see Sandoval draw the hell out of the fight scenes.
Next we will get at least two more creative teams, one of whom is almost certainly Waid and Henry doing the Phantom Zone/Aethyr storyline. Not happy to see Waid claim that story, his Silver Age sensibilities are not going to live up to what PKJ was building to. Huge disappointment at this chance to let PKJ flesh out the Phantom Zone like he did Warworld pass by. After Waid we have one more team, and if Tom King isn't shooting his shot by now he will never get on a Superbook. Turning Action into an anthology book feels like a last minute decision made to buy time while they try and get a permanent creative team, which I do think has a chance of being King.
As mentioned in other posts, PKJ claims he will still be writing Superman and I believe that means he's been tapped to write the Justice League relaunch. He was saying on Twitter that we would get to see his Warworld plot threads such as Kryl-Ux unfold elsewhere, and also he would touch on the backstory of the events we saw in the FS House of El one shot. Sounds exciting to me, the kind of story actually worth bringing JL back.
Oh and starting with issue 10, Williamson is doing a Superman arc that is a Western, expands on Moonlight's backstory, and brings in Terra-Man. Sign me the hell up for that! Redondo seems to have permanently moved to Superman from Nightwing which means I'm probably dropping Nightwing soon.
For other DC news I am ecstatic to see Spurrier and Campbell reunite for more Hellblazer, but otherwise it was a fairly muted showing from DC aside from one huge rumor that I'll cover in a separate post. Oh and I guess there was the Elseworlds announcement but since that was mostly Batbooks I’m not interested.
Apologies to all the Asks about the new Ultimate Universe, I did get them but they were deleted.
Ultimate Spider-Man - Pitch is perfect, a mid-life Peter inspired by Spiderverse Peter B. Parker is exactly what I want. Ideally this Peter will be married to MJ and a father to Mayday but we can't rule out Hickman throwing a curveball and having him be divorced or dating Liz Allen or something. Seeing DoomReed hold the spider in the vial that Maker had, plus the transition scenes of 6160 Peter wearing all the suits makes me guess that DoomReed will time travel back and give Peter his powers similar to how he and Tony used time travel to save Cap. Thus this Peter will have been Spider-Man for a while, in secret. Or it's setting up a bunch of variant covers and instead we will see what happens when Peter gets his powers much later than usual. Either way I am excited about reading Spider-Man comics again, no mean feat.
Ultimate Black Panther - Great choice for writer, Hill's run on Blade rules and his name dropping Dune as an influence has me hyped since I love the book too and it's influence is all over the work of Hickman and PKJ. Great artist in Caselli. Moss is the editor and that is not great. He edited the main BP book and his tenure has been a disaster. Hickman needs to be involved to protect Hill from Moss. Costume design is not great either, feels 90s in a bad way. Of all the new Ultimate books, this is the one I hope is most like the old UU in terms of updating T'Challa, his supporting cast, and Rogues Gallery for a modern era. Fine to start off with "Ultimate Moon Knight", but let's not wait too long to bring in traditional Panther foes like Achebe who need the spotlight and revamps.
Ultimate X-Men - Not interested. Momoko is a talented artist but I only care about the A-List X-Men. A bunch of OC mutants does not intrigue me. Easy skip.
No Ultimates is surprising but my suspicion is that Black Panther will tell the story of T'Challa housing the Ultimates in Wakanda and Hickman wants to push people towards Hill's book. Eventually the Ultimates will spin out of UBP I reckon.
Expect the same level of quality here as Orlando showed on the previous SW book. That said if this is not setting up the restoration of the twins being mutants, I find more Magneto drama tedious. Either pull the trigger and make them mutants again or keep them away from Magneto and the X-Line.
And that was basically it for Marvel announcements that I care about. Might check out the vampire event since McKay is writing, haven't decided yet.

Fallout: Season 1 – TV Review
TL;DR – This is a series that shows you how important it is to get the vibe of the work you are adapting correctly. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4 out of 5. Disclosure – I paid for the Amazon Prime service that viewed this series.End Credit – There is a mid-credit sequence. Fallout Review – Like many people, I had a bit of trepidation when they announced that there would be an adaptation of the video game…

I’m all out of solos, so here’s one of the last of the X-series modules, X12: Skarda’s Mirror (1987). This is by Aaron Allston, who did N4: Treasure Hunt, a module I adore. This is a pretty solid follow up, though it skirts most of the expectations set by the previous X-modules — it neither involves the exploration of wilderness, nor does it hew to the epic scale of the past few installments. Its a much smaller scenario, thick with plot and investigation. And there’s a pocket dimension! I love pocket dimensions.
The first part is a bit of a red herring, searching a tower full of beasties for a mirror that’s supposed to be there but isn’t. The second part is mainly inside the pocket dimension of the mirror — getting the party there requires their defeat and capture, but thankfully the module doesn’t force it. Skarda’s minions are tough enough to make capture likely, but there are work-arounds for if some or all party-members escape (two pages in the back describes all the ways Allston saw the adventure potentially going wrong and runs through ways to keep it relatively on-track. More adventures should do this. After that, the players need to escape the prison, and the mirror the prison is within, and foil Skarda’s attempted military coup of Karameikos. All in a day’s work!
Cover by Tim Hildebrandt. It’s very good and pretty funny and sells one of the module’s key things very well. Interiors by Al Williamson and Jeff Easley. Really love Williamson’s delicate line work and his cartoony style.

Dear @hellyeahheroes/@filipfatalattractionrblog,
All that me and my friend @sjbattleangel ask is that you and the rest of your friends on this blog please acknowledge and apologize for creating such a toxic echo chamber with your blog, which encourages and enables hyperbolic and inflammatory mischaracterization and harassment if comic creators that you personally dislike. If you don’t like the works of people like Jason Aaron, Dan Slott, Brian Michael Bendis, Donny Cates, Jonathan Hickman, Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Joshua Williamson etc., that’s fine; but it is UNACCEPTABLE to constantly slander and demonize them as “perverts”, "misogynists", "homophobes", "eugenists" or “fascist apologists” when there’s ZERO evidence to substantiate such extreme claims. Just because these creators wrote comics that you personally disliked does NOT mean that they're even remotely comparable to legitimately bigoted scumbags like Ethan Van Sciver & Chuck Dixon like you treat them as based on the way you constantly talk about them!
And some members of your community, like KK4EverStuff, have gone even further by using your defamatory statements as an excuse to write literal death threats towards said-creators such as these:
These are NOT ad-hominem or hyperbolic Angry Video Game Nerd style criticisms like majingojira once tried to claim. This is violent an unhinged cyberbullying on KK4EverStuff's part. Plain and simple. Your blog encouraged and enabled his kind of toxic behavior, and you need to acknowledge that and do better going forward.
Then there is the X-Men series (particularly anything non-New X-Men: Academy X or post-Schism), Batgirls, any post-One Year Later Cass Cain-stared story or any post-One More Day Spider-Man story. It's fine if they don't appeal to you but deliberately choosing to hate them way before you even read them or gave them a proper chance? That isn't good or healthy criticism, that's just hate-reading for the sake of hate-reading. All it does is create an atmosphere of constant negativity and toxic gatekeeping which really hurt comic fans who just want to have fun. If anything after Avengers: Arena, X-Men: Schism, Robin: One Year Later or One More Day upset you that much then why you are reading them if you're automatically going to hate them? Just don't read them. It's that easy.
So please, acknowledge that you have done wrong with your past attacks against specific comic creators, toxic bad-faith comic criticism and apologize. That’s all we ask for.
Do better!
