Drummer Aaron Spears Dies at 47

- Musician worked with Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne and others

Drummer Aaron Spears has died at 47, his family said.

“It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that I share the news of the passing of my beloved husband, Aaron Spears,” Jessica Spears wrote Oct. 30 on social media; the date and cause of the drummer’s death were not provided.

“Aaron was not only an incredibly accomplished drummer, admired by many for his unparalleled talent and passion for music, but he was also a devoted father to our precious son, August,” she said. “His love, guidance and warmth were the pillars of our family, and his absence leaves a void that words cannot describe.”

Questlove reckons concertgoers have probably “seen Aaron drum … five-10 times in your life … and sometimes without knowing - that’s how much in-demand his services were.”

Spears played on albums and tours backing the likes of Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Usher and Ariana Grande, who called the drummer “the absolute brightest light of a human being,” in a post on social media.

“I will miss your hugs,” she said. “You are so, so loved and will be so very missed.”

Stanton Moore eulogized Spears as an “amazing musician and drummer” and a “warm, funny, kind and supportive human being,” while Adam Deitch mourned the massive “loss for the drumming community.”

Spears was “a luminous soul in the drumming community,” Ludwig Drums said in a statement, adding: “Aaron was so much more than a musician; he was an inspiration, a mentor and a truly remarkable human being.”

Spears' long list of touring and production credits includes Lil Wayne, Carrie Underwood, Usher, Jordin Sparks, Chaka Khan, Adam Lambert, Mary Mary, The Backstreet Boys, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and, most recently, Grande.

I'm not going to pretend that I knew who Spears was before now, but he had a YouTube channel, so I checked it out and found this drum cover of DJ Shadow's "Mambo," and you know what? I respect that choice a lot. I'd respect that choice even if he didn't also kill it, but he also killed it. J.I.P. (jam in peace)

I get that the fandom likes to compare Mary and Tilda bc of how they were both abusive towards Neil and Aaron respectively and how Neil and Aaron still love them but there definitely are some huge differences.

I think that in canon Tilda treated Aaron like he wasn’t particularly wanted whereas both Mary and Neil knew that Neil was Mary’s whole life. I think the main difference is the level of priority in which they treat their sons Tilda acts as though she doesn’t care about Aaron whereas Neil is fully aware his mother prioritized his survival over literally everything else.

I also think of how they influenced their sons. I think of Mary as like a shadow version of Neil someone who Neil has a lot in common with and similar backgrounds but ultimately if Neil ended up like Mary it would be incredibly dark and bad. Aaron is like Tilda’s antithesis. someone who is deeply loyal to family (holding on to Andrew and Nicky, still loving Tilda) and very hardworking and dedicated wants to be better than where he came from. Neil still uses the skills he got from Mary and ending up like Tilda is Aaron’s worst nightmare.

U know what aftg mothers should be compared more often though Cass and Maria.

Did Andrew get a rape kit after thanksgiving? Did he not only have to tell everyone about drake but also listen to them talk about the results from the kit? He watched the people representing Drake call him a liar and try to justify what Drake did.

I think one of the reasons, among the already overflowing list of reasons, Andrew hated Tilda so much isn’t because she gave him up or even because she hurt Aaron, but because she's so similar to Cass; it hurt to look at her. He hated her because he would have preferred her abuse over Cass's willful ignorance. Because he knew without a doubt that if Tilda had even suspected someone had hurt Aaron the same way Drake and all those other men hurt Andrew, she would have killed them. Tilda was an abusive piece of shit, but she loved Aaron in some fucked up way that meant only she could hurt him and no one else. Andrew would have preferred that kind of love over whatever the fuck Cass gave him because at least then he'd have understood it. Maybe he wouldn't be so mad at Aaron for loving Tilda back. Because no matter how hard Andrew tried, he couldn't love anyone, especially not Cass, back.

I was about to continue listening to the raven king to go to sleep again but I started playing from where it ended last time I fell asleep to it and it was Neil picking up his racket at the hemmick house on Thanksgiving and I just know I need to be more emotionally stable for that

Or 5 times Neil deals with his nightmares alone, and the 1 time he leans on Andrew for help.
