Hi there!! If Aarav had really been Arnav and Sheetal's son then do you think Arnav and Khushi's marriage would just end? Since Khushi would want aarav to have a family and Arnav wouldn’t be able to deny Khushi's wishes as well as his own son's responsibilities.
Hello!
It's pretty clear that Khushi thinks Aarav deserves a nuclear family -- that if his mother and father are alive, she thinks they should co-inhabit and marry and be together for his sake. But Khushi doesn't have a framework for a religious divorce -- she can dissolve the legal union but not the religious one (hence the suicide track). So it's unclear exactly what would eventuate in this scenario.
Just a reminder that I generally don't answer "what if ..." questions :)

Hi Phati Sari, first off I finally read your fan-fiction. It was so much fun. Sometimes I watch the episode and then read the extended version. Also I really love your disclaim on your very intimate writing--NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK. Thank you for such wonderful looks between the lines. I look forward to reading more, whenever the muse comes again.
Hello!
Thanks for the compliments, this is all very sweet :) And thank you for taking the time to read the stories!!

So I follow this guy on instagram. He told me some time ago that he was curious about a few girls, but they were all too pretty to ever want him. (yikes).
I noticed about two months ago that he tends to be online at the same time as 3-5 of these girls. Not all the time, but often enough that I noted the weird timing (and then kept noticing it because it was so odd that they'd all pop up online and then offline together).
Over time, I realised that these women didn't know each other, but I knew them, and that this man was likely keeping all of them 'in his orbit'. Giving each of them just enough to keep them hopeful, but not actually committing to any of them.
I don't think the issue is that any of them is ~too pretty~ for him. I think he's a dickhead who enjoys the attention and validation they give him.
And this is why I hate men.

Oh yes, absolutely! And this is how most folks see it :) Much discourse has been had on this blog over this.
I'm definitely the odd one out here but I genuinely think that the parallel between the two situations is strong, and the only thing that sways audience sympathy towards Khushi rather than away is that (1) the audience is mostly female and tends to project onto her and her experiences and (2) the show is very pro-Khushi and tends to focus on the intent behind Khushi's actions while it focusses on the outcome of Arnav's.
Arnav also relied on what he saw with his own eyes and heard with his own ears at the terrace. When he sought the truth, he sought it from the person who owed him more -- his jija of three years rather than the woman he'd known for ~6 months. Was he right? No. But most folks would have done the same.
This is not a question as such, but after rewatching ipkknd after so many years I kind of get mad when-all the sheetal drama takes place-arnav gets mad at khushi for not believing and trusting him when he did the exact same thing to khushi
And I know they were married at this point and in love with each other,
But he literally admits in front of khushi the number of girls he has dated before her, and sheetal has history with arnav. And arnav-he was so quick to believe everything about shyam and khushi. Kind of makes me think-is he a hypocrite?, tries to explain that 'woh uss type la ladka nahi hai' and I'm like excuse me laad governor didn't you literally call khushi characterless?
And khushi? Forgives him after going through all this, if I were her I would have married nk
NK is definitely the better option here.
I also see a parallel in the way Arnav believed what he'd seen (Shyam and Khushi on the terrace, and the truth Shyam showed him) and Khushi believing what she'd seen (similarities in Arnav and Aarav, and the truth Sheetal showed her). Arnav did tell Khushi the truth when she asked, and she decided to ignore it in favour of what she thought she knew.
For me, the track showed that, had the situations been reversed and Khushi had come across Arnav and some other woman at the terrace, she would have might have reacted in much the same way as he did.
Both of them are stubborn, egotistical, arrogant and hypocritical at different times. Neither is perfect and their frictions are usually about how similar they are, not how different they are.

Hi Phati-sari (side note, your name always reminds me of gulabi saadi in a good way)
I just wanted to know if you have ever read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen? If yes, have you noticed the amount of similarities between IPKKND and P&P?
Also I am so happy I found your blog and every response of yours is so well written and descriptive enough to not feel monotonous and are just concise enough to answer the question without deviating from the topic!!
Thank you!!!! 😊😊😊
Hello @fortuna-majoris :)
Pride and Prejudice is one of my favourite things ever. I’ve spoken about parallels between it and IPK here and here. Basically, I think they play off the same riff – they share many themes and tropes.
There’s a tag for Pride and Prejudice, it has gifsets and other analysis as well :)
Thanks for asking!

I just recently read a post where you mentioned the second Teri meri being a dream sequence and maybe arnav *thinking* about khushi. I was just noticing some things after rewatching it that might support this theory. The surroundings where the sequence takes place looks very similar to the warehouse arnav is in rather than the pool side khushi is at
Also can the fairy lights be considered as an explosion of feelings arnav has when *thinking* about khushi
Also the sequence seems to be more about arnav touching khushi rather than the other way round, what do you think?
P.s by *thinking* I mean in a sexual way
The second 'Teri Meri' is a dream sequence, yes. They are in totally different places! My somewhat controversial theory/head canon is that the first 'Teri Meri' is a hallucination as well.
I go into detail in the recap of Episode 170. Basically, I think that IPKKND uses costume changes as a way to indicate a shared hallucination, and that Arnav and Khushi's otherwise inexplicable costume changes and overly sensual dance are both explained by parts of it being a shared dream-state. There's also the way Arnav leads Khushi in the dance.
I also have a bit of analysis here basically saying what you have said -- Arnav pulls Khushi into his fantasy, the fairylights are so meaningful to them, he touches her the way he always imagines touching her, and that the dance itself evokes their journey so far.
I also think that both 'Teri Meri' sequences are about a fundamental change in Arnav and Khushi's relationship. I've spoken about it here, how the first was about Arnav putting aside his ego and giving into his feelings, and the second was about Arnav deciding to forgive Khushi.

Hi Phati sari!! I have always felt that Khushi's character in ipk is not as well defined as Arnav's was. Her witty personality was completely butchered by the end of the show. So my question is that do you think Khushi is insecure or toxic in any way?
Sometimes I feel khushi is confident and proud of who she is but later in the show her spunk is completely missing. Do you think Khushi seeks validation from Arnav or she feels secure the way she is?
Hello!
I don't see Khushi as insecure or toxic. I think she makes mistakes, and the serial (at times) doesn't hold her accountable for them. I also don't think her personality was butchered throughout the serial. I think she grew. The serial showed us a period of immense change in Khushi and Arnav's lives, and their characters naturally changed as a consequence.
Sometimes people write in and say that Arnav's character was butchered as well, that he used to be so calculating and fun to watch and by the end of the serial those aspects of his character were missing. That he became boring.
We saw Khushi's confidence and spunk when she was standing up to a man who was bullying her. When she was defending herself and those she loved. As the serial progressed, she had to do that less and less with Arnav. She still had those qualities when dealing with Shyam and Sheetal, and even the people involved in the Mrs India contest. She even stood up to Arnav a few times after remarriage.
Similarly, Arnav used to hid his true emotions behind the persona of ASR. He needed it less and less as the serial went on, which is why folks might find him boring later on.
Khushi is pretty secure for someone who was orphaned at 8 years old and bullied by an aunt. That comes from Shashi's love and acceptance. She might become insecure sometimes, but I didn't get the sense that she seeks Arnav's approval above and beyond what one would naturally want from someone they love.

Hi! I started watching ipkknd last year and then have been reading all sorts of fanfics ever since. I just wanted to tell you that out of all the Arnavs I've read, Yours is my favourite! So Thank You for writing such beautiful fics ! Hope you're doing well. Love, just a very happy reader. <3
Hi hi hi!
Thank you very much, this is so kind :) I write for me, as in, my primary audience is me, so it's always amazing to hear from people who enjoy the stories or like the characterisation. I know my Arnav is softer than other interpretations, but that's what I want to read!
Thank you for reading my stories and for taking the time to send a message :)

Hi can you tell me please how to get the English subtitles like I downloaded the mega app but I don't know how to get the English subtitles please answer my question ❓
Hello!
The subtitles are in a folder called subtitles. You need to download the episodes, download the subtitles, and then use some kind of media player (I prefer VLC) to play.

Hello hi bye bye dear Phati Sari! I really like your blog that gives me much needed clarity on ipkknd. I appreciate your POVs that are understanding and empathetic towards each character and no unnecessary hate. Kudos to ya!!
Anyway I always found Khushi's choice of item song and performance tad bit disappointing in the bachelorette party. I did not like 'Namak ishq ka' song for seducing arnav at that point of their relationship (maybe later after remarriage like on arnav's birthday or khushi tryna making up to arnav for her goof ups etc).
I feel Sanaya is a super good dancer and they could've actually done something super sensual and alluring rather than comical and awkward in nature. I just wish they could at least once give khushi a space for expressing her true desire and affection for arnav, that way the consummation scene could have been more electrifyingly aesthetic.
Do you think this as a missed opportunity to showcase khushi's feminity giving a backseat to her goofy childish-self?
Hello!
Thank you very much! I try really hard to keep things balanced on the blog, so I appreciate your words. I know it annoys a few folks, but I try to remember that this is also the person I want to be in daily life -- a person who recognises that everyone is the hero of their own story, and everyone thinks they are justified in how they behave. I know the characters and their situations aren't real, but they are real enough for the purposes of the blog!
I totally see where you're coming from. There are a few times I get frustrated as well. For example, in Episode 147 where Khushi runs on the spot while screaming because Arnav was in the bathroom with her. From the recap -
Khushi’s reaction was … weird. Maybe it was cute, but in a sixteen-never-been-touched-and-terrified-of-boys way. Yes, she’s eighteen, innocent, pure, virginal, etc etc etc. But Arnav unwrapped her from the fairylights in one of the most sensual moments of her life so far. She was willing to let this man kiss her at his poolside. She’s fallen on top of him, he’s fallen on top of her. He’s pulled her to him and held her flush against his body. The shocked scream made sense to me, and so did instinctively trying to cover herself up. I think she could have been shy, or awkward. She could have even been instantly angry. But the running on the spot was simply weird and made the incident more juvenile than it needed to be.
I understand that Khushi's character is written to be comical and awkward rather than alluring and sensual. Khushi's relationship with intimacy and sensuality is often in keeping with the character, but I definitely think that the creative team sometimes missed the mark completely with how they treated some situations and tracks. The lead-up to the Janmashtami suhaag raat, for example, is awful.
In Khushi's defence at the bachelor party, she clearly did not know the meaning of the song and had just picked something she thought men wanted to see. But I take your point, the sequence could have been more, meant more, had different choices been made.
I think the creative team struggled with a way to allow Khushi to grow up and accept her sensuality given the constraints of 2011-2012 tellywood, and given the inherent misogyny in what they were showing sometimes. Lavanya is allowed to be alluring and sensuous because she's a Certain Type of Woman, and Khushi is Not That Kind of Woman. In fact, she is often expected to be a Girl, not a Woman.
Which. Ew.
Having said all that, this is still one of the most sensuous stories I've seen from the era (and okay, I haven't seen a tonne), the female lead very obviously feels lust, and also features (a technically) pre-martial consummation. While not exactly controversial for the time, it was pushing the proverbial envelope. Which is one of the reasons it was (and continues to be) so popular.
