Okay so I'm just about to start part 3 age of fire of adofn and I have SO MANY THOUGHTS. Not even half way through yet but omg Samantha Shannon you have done it again.

First I absolutely love the Priory plotline in the South with Tunuva, Esbar and Siyu. I love sapphic romances with all my heart and especially with representation for older women. Give me two middle aged women loving each other fuck yeah !!!! I adore how it tackles how some people lose faith in their religion when they feel lost / disconnected to it. Of course some sisters of the Priory, especially the younger ones or ones who have been away from the tree for a long time would not see the point in it anymore as they have not seen the danger the world could be in. Very excited to see how Esbar is going to be as the Prioress as I'm assuming that Saghul has finally kicked the bucket judging by the last scene w Tuva and just generally how she will deal with the draconic plague and the whole general disruption she's going to have to deal w so early in her time as the Prioress and how things will change with her in charge.

Glorian my absolute beloved, I want to shield her from everything that is wrong in the world. Her and Sabran's relationship is so unbelievably tragic I am so insane about them and the fact they will never get to make up and Glorian won't ever know how much her mother truly loves her because she will forever live in her mind as the cold queen. Sabran had an uphill battle to climb when she became queen and while her reign marked the end of the century of discontent, she would always be compared to the three that came before her because the wound was still so fresh and she knew Glorian would also be subjected to that and just wanted to prepare her for it but all Glorian wanted was to know that her mother loved her like her father did and I just ugh. Also I love her relationship w her dad, they are so cute and it's such a nice contrast in how the two parents were raised / their environments. Where he wants to show affection to Glorian and ensure she doesn't ever question that she is loved, Sabran wants to make sure she can survive the courts even at the cost of their relationship. IT'S ALL JUST SUCH GOOD CHARACTISATION !!!

And I love her friendship with Wulf, they are so cute especially with the sparring match and I know from the Priory that he holds like a high position in her court as a knight or smth so really excited to see how their relationship develops following Glorian's coronation.

DUMAI !!!! GOD I LOVE HOW WE GET A LOOK AT THE POLITICS AND CELEBRATIONS OF SEIIKI MORE HERE!!! Dumai is my favourite lesbian absolutely love her so much. Watching her traverse the court tensions as everyone's eyes are on her and she has few allies that actually want to see her on the throne is soooo good. And her being the first dragonrider in centuries !!! That's my girl !!! I wonder if this is the start of like the dragonriding training & the sea guard being founded as seen in Priory w Tané since the long haired comet is on its way and I believe that's what causes the Seiikinese dragons to be more powerful rather than the fire wyrms if I'm remembering how their magic works right but I could be wrong lol.

Anyway I'm gonna get back to reading, will update on my progress again (at some point)

ok putting this under a read more bc this is going to be a wall of me rambling

god yes the priory plotline with esbar and tunuva is SO good. I absolutely love those two, they're such an enduring and loving couple with such a strong bond but it's also so nice to see the struggles they go through. I love seeing their differences especially when it comes to siyu and how they deal with that. it's also especially interesting seeing how the priory functioned before the dragons came back and how some of the girls were even starting to doubt what they were training for because it had been so long since the founding. it's a very understandable and interesting glimpse into things compared to how we see the priory in ead's time.

GLORIAN IS MY BABY OH MY GOD. I love her so much. sooooo much. my darling. my child. she deserves the world. her and sabran's relationship is SO tragic because you can understand exactly why sabran is the way she is with glorian. she bore an impossible weight of bringing inys out of the darkness it had fallen under during the rule of her predecessors at such a young age and she also had the burden of trying to ensure things didn't fall back into that darkness after her reign. she wanted glorian to be prepared but that led to glorian feeling as though she was never good enough for her mother. her father is soooo sweet her relationship with him is so dear, but in a way it's also understandable why he's able to be the favored parent with her. she barely ever sees him since he has to rule his own country most of the year so it's far easier to be the loving, light-hearted parent when you only ever see your kid once a year or so compared to being the parent that actually has to properly raise them. and it also like you said really shows the difference in her parents upbringing. sabran has suffered from the generational trickle down of abuse while bardholt didn't have the same struggles. you're so right it's just such incredible characterization and oughhh my poor baby glorian suffers because of it.

wulf and glorian's relationship is one of my favorite dynamics in the entire book. you'll understand why as the story progresses but god I just love their friendship so much. they're so dear to each other and have such a sweet, trusting relationship. I can't wait for you to see where things go with the two of them.

DUMAI YESSSS I absolutely adored getting to see so much of Seiiki's politics in this one. dumai is in such a tragic position because she never wanted any of this in the first place but she has to suddenly play these royal games for the sake of the entire country. all she ever wanted was to become the maiden officiant of the temple but suddenly she has to be a princess and try to prevent her father from being overthrown. I absolutely can't wait for you to see more of what dumai gets up to because the second half of her story is really where things get interesting with her (and some other characters in her story will become veryyyy important very soon you'll see what I mean)

just. intense back and forth of hapoiness being with him every single day to devastating loneliness whenever he leaves. each time he comes back, ofc intense welcome home sex ensues. but it never goes past the fwb stage. any deeper feelings he's harboured are shoved aside and he grows distant when he feels like you want to get even closer. he always wants what he can't have. and he'd rather you not be caught up in whatever bullshit he goes through so he lies to himself saying he's content with meaningless sex and just doing things for you. even when you have consumed his entire thoughts. yet he's unaware that you are much the same. craving him more and more that you wanna get through to him. but HIS FUCKASS LONESOME WAYS MAKES YOU HESITATE. SO YALL JUST GO NOWHERE. AND ITS JUST A "what are we?" LOOP

mf.... madara just will not communicate. he can't go beyond superficial desires and acts of service because it scares him to face the fact these feelings have grown wildly out of control. it scares him because the moment he does, he fears his own self destructive tendencies will take over and he'll just ruin everything. whats more is that imo i think he would still unconsciously do things like distance himself, not speak to you for days even after coming back as like a way for you to grow to resent him. that way if things crumble he can just say oh the signs were there as if he didn't put those flags up himself.

PEARL DIVER MY BELOVED <333 it felt like the best fit for the fic because like you said!!!!! soooo many of the lyrics are merguru coded 😭 and just fit the lore / story in general!!! there were other lyrics i could have chosen (’forgive the sea, follow the tide’) but ’hunter, you were human // don’t forget it and go safely’ is my favorite part of the song 🥹🥹 and i thought it made for a pretty catchy title !!! <3

2/ reader being a herbalist came up pretty naturally, but it wasn’t my plan from the start!! the plot of the fic is that merguru has to stay with reader due to an injury, so it felt right to make them well versed in organic medicine and stuff :3 i also think it adds a cozy feeling to the atmosphere!! reader’s cozy home, with shelves full of honey and herbs and flowers…

as for unincluded npcs..... hmmm idk. maybe something with buddy and bobby dawn to fill out kristen's backstory.... I have quite a few of The Seven in various roles throughout the plot but would have liked to use all seven of them (atm its just yelle antiope and penny iirc) but uhhh. yeah idk. I feel like there are So Many npcs floating around in the background of noble pining already that I worry it feels. overcrowded? or that Im just shoving npcs in there to be referential and not suit the story and the narrative so I don't wanna do that/don't want it to feel like that to readers, if that makes sense. so idk I don't think any of the other rat grinders or fhjy-specific npcs would suit or fit organically into np as it stands rn (draft1) and I suppose if I see a suitable place for an NPC to go and a fhjy character fits in I'll add them ?? but yeah. I feel pretty good about the plot beats I came up with in the very arduous process of conceptualizing and writing it lmao, now it's just a question of effective execution kfjbskfjbn <3

♡ Once a week you would walk through the woods to your grandmothers cottage. Dabi knew this because you couldn’t help but watch you every time you did. It wasn’t like you were exactly trying to hide yourself, he could always spot you because of the red hood you wore. So he watched you, watched as you went to your grandmothers, stayed for the day before leaving.

♡ Dabi didn’t approach you until one day, you seemed not to be paying attention as you accidentally strayed off the path. You got lost in the dark and terrifying woods. Dabi watched for a moment before coming out of his hiding place, approaching you and asking you if you had gotten lost.

♡ Without even showing any fear you told him yes so he began to bring you back to the path and get you out of the dangerous woods. You also didn’t seem to off put by the fact he was a werewolf.

♡ Normally the people from the nearby villages feared werewolves yet you didn’t seem to mind. You even at one point asked if you could touch his ears, commenting on how fluffy and soft they were once he gave you the permission to touch them.

♡ You both talked as he lead you back to the path, debating if he should take you with him or not. You smile at him as you naively tell him exactly where you’re going to where you are coming from. Dabi can’t help but think how lucky

♡ Dabi thought about taking you then, it would’ve been so easy to just bring you to his home. But he doesn’t, he lets you go. Because he knows you’ll be back. You’ll be back next week and he’ll take you then!

♡ The next week you came back but this time you go into the woods directly, calling out for Dabi. Once he comes out you hand him a basket, it had some food that you had made in it for him as a thanks! He just thinks that it absolutely precious that you did that, you were just to adorable!

♡ That’s the week he decides to take you, an hour or so before you head off to your grandmothers house, he heads down there before you. Waiting in her house for you. He just hopes you don’t go in the woods to try and find him again.

♡ When you arrive at your grandmothers house that day, you find Dabi waiting inside for you. You don’t even think to hard about it, just asking him what he was doing there. Then Dabi starts questioning his decision. You were so sweet he might not even need to kidnap you. Perhaps he could just ask you to follow him.

♡ That’s what he does, he says he needs your help with something in his den. Of course if he needs help then you’re going to go with him. So you follow him, not even sensing that anything was wrong. Yet he won’t let you leave once you’re there, claiming that you’re his mate. Dabi needs to keep his mate safe after all.

hmm either heartgold or sun/ultra sun. story wise sun was better but ultra sun added many sidequest and surf and ultra warp ride soooo i had a blast playing it!

And I know your prob tired to an extant, what are your future plans with this series, is this going to lead into the Loki series, or are you going to make your own little series with White Vision?! In terms of what I have planned next,,, I don’t have anything planned, really. :’D The Subtitles/Captions series itself is over, so there’s nothing coming next on that front. I have considered working on a sequel series with the Loki series on Disney+ b u t I haven’t watched too many episodes of it yet to decide whether or not that’s something I want to do. Even if I did do that series, it probably wouldn’t be for a while; I have a very one-track mind (clearly, lol) and when I write my series I have a habit of neglecting requests, which I’m currently working on catching up on. I did also consider doing something with Reid and White Vision but again, I know too little about White Vision at this point to decide on how to spin a side series with them; I mostly added the little White Vision easter egg at the end to subtly indicate that I’m totally down to write White Vision x Reader if anyone has any White Vis requests, lol. Long blurb short, right now, in the writing department, I’m mostly focusing on finishing up requests on both writing blogs.

Non-writing-wise, I was thinking of doing some art stuff with the characters of the series on my art blog, which is currently pretty much barren because I’m bad at cross-posting and I mainly post my art on DeviantArt. Nothing super extensive, just doodles and maybe some draw-your-characters-like-this memes. I did consider doing an Ask the Characters type of thing over there, where y’all could ask questions or get more niche details out of the Subtitles that didn’t come with the written series, but I don’t know if that’s something anyone wants either, lol.

S o, those are my after-series thoughts, I guess. Sorry this is a late response; a lot of stuff has been going on offline. You guys are welcome to tell me your thoughts on my thoughts and let me know if you’re interested in any of the ideas I threw out there, I guess!

tma is soooo good I cannot fully articulate how fucking amazing this show is aaaaa. the fucking LAYERS of horror the BONE DEEP DREAD that settles over me when I think about Jon becoming more and more The Archivist, the slow building terror of watching an avatar progress over hours and hours and hours, years in universs... and the mysteries of the world unraveling, revealing more and more questions, you only ever know just enough to just about get what's going on, but there's also this sense of just floating in space, unmoored and unguided. Jon keeps reiterating that he doesn't know what to do next, he's hungry and tired and confused and alone, he's losing his team and his team are losing themselves, everything is a slow-motion trainwreck but no one can see where the next fire is going to start. I feel more like I'm trapped in season 4 than I did in season 3, and I feel like Jon that I'm not satisfied by anything. I'm waiting for a plan, for an attack, for something big and something to make sense of all this. I'm waiting for the future to suddenly be all revealed. for the clouds to part and there: that's what all of this has been headed towards! more than just watching Jon deteriorate, than just watching more and more people die or shatter, more than just the petty bickering of petty avatars serving arbitrary and silent powers; but it just isn't happening. we're trapped in the archives, and like Martin said: you're not going to leave. even if you had the choice. you won't, so you came to me for another reason not to. I just want them all to be okay, I want them safe and healthy and alright. but there's so many tangled webs, so much about this place and these powers that they need, and I have no idea how they're going to make it out of this. what they're even going to do next. hhhhhhh I love this show so much it makes me feel so UNEASY.

I honestly have no idea HAHAHA I’m still figuring things out myself, trying to explore the endless pit that is choosing colors</3 but maybe you can say that I always try to use complementary color sets, haven’t really dive deep into using split complementary, triads or quads for now.

I have too many to count aksjdhakjsdhakjsh expecially in the Haikyuu fandom, but the ones that quickly came to mind are these people:

KIM JUNG GI - HE’S MY DRAWING GOD I BASICALLY WORSHIP THIS MAN OK

Raiikencomic - THE BADDEST BITCH</3 crisp and strong and detailed and their character designs are top notch aaa superb!

Ross Draws - UGH YES PLS we are both Photoshop’s color dodge whores, and he’s just too skilled for his own good. I love how bright and otherworldly, yet soothing his color choices are.

Mohammed Aghbadi - WE BOTH LOVE GRADIENT TOOL TO THE BONE BECAUSE IT'S CRISP AND SEXC. He's such a great art teacher too! I learn a lot about gradient render from this guy, we have no choice but to stan🙏 His art is so clean and crisp, sooo good at using multi colored lights!

Littleskirb - because our approach are quite alike, especially in negative spaces & composition, but she’s just way way better. I love how her arts always manage to evoke feelings, like it shakes you to the core, aaaaa I’m a simp!

sajohnnyapple, songrnim, drag_me_to_work - the holy trinity of haikyuu fan artist. I can go on a whole essay on why I love these three. They’re just, killing the game okay:’) pretty self explanatory if you check them out!

19. Do you prefer drawing fan art or original art more?

I actually used to love drawing original art more (especially OCs). It’s more comfortable to do because you know exactly what you want to draw like you know the back of your hand. But then SnK and Haikyuu came to my life and changes everything HAHAHA. When I draw something, tbh, I still struggle with consistency, be it on how good the finished drawing, or on certain characteristics I have to maintain in order to make a character recognizable. And Mar, that’s exactly what I’m struggling with in drawing fanart! For example, one day I can draw Mattsun like A, and then when i tried to doodle him again I can’t really create him the exact same way as my last attempt and he would look like B asjdhkasjhdkasjhd. That means I need to exercise far more than I already have, but Haikyuu boys just make me enjoy things ok. You know their magic 🤲✨ So for now, fan art it is!
