one of my favorite a3 moments ever that i wish all of my non-a3 followers knew about is the time when itaru, a character who at 23 years old was still dealing with deep-seated trust issues and a paralyzing fear of trying to connect with others due to having been bullied for most of his childhood, practically forced to hide his true self and become someone new just to get it to stop, and then betrayed by the one person he thought he could call a friend during his last year of high school, encounters that same former friend again later after he's become a successful stage actor at a theater company and is finally happy and considers his troupemates to be like his family. and in the end his former friend hasn't changed at all, still tries to use itaru for his own gain, and isn't even sorry for any of it so itaru just straight up calls him a dick.

There’s around 10-15 games if I remember correctly, one of the characters is obsessed with it, and it’s a fantasy rpg loosely based on King Arthur. In A3!, the Spring Troupe gets contacted to put on a stageplay version of the fourth game, making it the only one with a fully realized plot."

Kniroun: "OH BOY. A fictional play based on a fictional video game series that takes Arthurian Mythology, shakes it around ‘til it’s a totally unique telling, and turns it into a full-fledged jrpg? Sign me up!!

I think there’s a lot to say about this play, but I’ll try to keep it simple; character-wise, the protagonist (Lancelot) is one character’s absolute dream role that he never knew he needed, being a huge fan of the original game series (understatement), and in the overall story it’s one of the most obvious showcases of how the in-universe theater company has grown, both in terms of acting and in terms of budget!

(Bonus points: some of the names associated with kniroun in-universe heavily imply that the game series is this universe’s Dragon Quest, which is extra points in the submitter’s book.)"

"Knights of Round (Kniroun in Japanese, KotR in English) is an RPG game series created by Hoshii Yoichi and developed by End Links. As of now, there are 9 installments in the series (I to IX), with the 10th game being highly anticipated by many fans. The series has been going on for almost 2 decades. Set in medieval Britannia, you play as Lancelot, a noble knight server under King Arthur, and are usually accompanied by the fairy Gwen. The characters in this game are inspired by characters in the Arthurian mythos.

Specifically, Knights of Round IV: The Stage is a stage adaptation of the fourth Kniroun game (which is chronologically the first game, a la Star Wars). Which, yes, means this is a stageplay of a game in a game. And there's also a real life stage play adaptation of the game (A3!), so there's a stageplay of a stageplay of a game in a game. Crazy. Anyway, actual propaganda time.

Kniroun IV: The Stage (hereafter referred to as Kniroun IV) is the lead play of character Itaru Chigasaki. Now, the focus is also on the events that surround it. In universe, the creator of the Kniroun series is super choosy about adaptations. However, they've decided to allow Mankai Company, an as of yet relatively unknown theater troupe, perform it. Why, you ask? WELL, THE HEAD OF THE PR TEAM IS ITARU'S EX. I WISH I WAS MAKING THIS UP. THEY HAD A DRAMATIC AND TRAUMATIC FALLING-OUT IN HIGH SCHOOL WHICH LEFT ITARU UNABLE TO FORM CLOSE INTERPERSONAL BONDS FOR YEARS. AND THEN HERE HE COMES, THE BASTARD, COMING TO THE THEATER TROUPE THAT ITARU'S PART OF, OFFERING THE CHANCE OF KNIROUN STAGE TO HIM KNOWING FULL WELL THAT ITARU WILL TAKE THE OFFER AND TAKE THE LEAD. YOU'VE HEARD OF CALLING YOUR EX, THIS IS LITERALLY WORSE.

Anyway, Kniroun IV is a super fun fantasy play. You follow Lancelot, and he's accompanied by Gwen. And since you can't see Gwen in the Kniroun games, she's represented by a cute little light. Lancelot has a fruity little camaraderie with Gawain, which kind of falls apart for a while because Merlin is evil and brainwashed King Arthur and Gawain swore himself to King Arthur but Lancelot cares more about the fairies who raised him so they're kind of on opposing sides, and also Gawain's little brother kind of took a hit for Lancelot and now he's dead and Gawain super blames him for that. Anyway, they're fucking TERRIBLE.

There's cool swordfighting scenes, and hot evil wizards, and hot knights, literally what's not to love!!!"

this is so funny finding this back i REALLY WENT THROUGH THIS HUH. 

and oh boy i’m just remembering this was before Kniroun. I ranked up for Kniroun also (top bracket) and i got carried in a high of “i could do it for Kniroun i could do it for ever” and after that i was constantly at least in the 3% top player in all the events that followed, going harder for events i cared about, so by the end of the server i was running on fumes and sleep deprivation.

but at the time of this event, the only events i had ranked up for were Sardines Search, Captain Sky’s Pirates, Nocturnality and this specific Vday event....

it’s so funny seeing me beg for the sweet relief of sleeping forever a few months before i went pro gamerz on this, man. Man....

Summary: If he had to choose anyone in Mankai to be transported into medieval Britannia, Masumi would be right at the bottom of the list for various reasons. On the other hand, Itaru would be sitting very comfortably on the top of the list, with about twenty empty spaces between him and second place (Chikage, for the record). It’s always been his dream to wake up in the Kniroun universe, as he’s told the Spring Troupe many, many times. For Masumi, it’s a little closer to a nightmare. Masumi finds himself in a predicament of the isekai variety.

Itaru: (I've been wondering about this RPG themed around the Twelve Heavenly Generals for a while now....it's more interesting than I expected)*

Itaru: (This story would make for a good sequel. Even so, it's not really trending)

Itaru: (Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen this game in an advertisement before. I also found it in an online game store.....)

Director: Itaru-san, can I come in?

Itaru: Yuup.

Director: Sorry for the intrusion, but I have something I'd like to discuss with you. Do you have a minute?

Itaru: It's no problem. I've reached a good stopping point in the game.

Director: Thank you very much! Then, please meet us in the common area.

Itaru: Sakyo-san's here too huh. So, what did you want to talk about?

Director: I think that you know this, but this game show is coming up soon.

Itaru: Ah, I was thinking of going there too. I'm definitely going to check it out on their official website.

Director: Offered for MANKAI Company to do a stage performance.

Itaru: I don't know that much about them, but earlier I was playing a game made by that company called "Twelve Heavenly Generals of the Dawn"

Director: It seems like Eternal Games is planning on a stageplay based on the Twelve Heavenly Generals of the Dawn

Director: They also told us that they would like for Itaru-san to appear in the production if possible.

Itaru: Me?

Director: It looks like they found out about our theater company through our KniRoun performance.

Director: Apparently, they have also seen videos of Itaru-san performing KniRoun overseas recently.

Director: So that's why I'm asking if you will please consider doing it.

Itaru: I see. Of course I'll do the performance. Having them see the KniRoun Stage makes me really grateful and happy.

Itaru: Like I said earlier, I've played the game "The Twelve Heavenly Generals of the Dawn" and know about the characters.

Taxi driver: Will you be okay?

Tsumugi: I'm sorry, we'll be okay. Thank you very much.

Tsumugi: Hup...!

Tsumugi: Y-You're heavy... Tasuku, we're almost home, so do your best to walk a little...!

Fuyuki: Woah, I thought I heard talking out here...

Tsumugi: Fuyuki-kun...! Tasuku got drunk...

shoutout to itaru chigasaki for just casually and suddenly revealing that he coped with getting bullied in school by literally kinning his favorite video game character, and then getting to play that same character in an officially licensed stage adaptation of one of the games. and not only that but he and his theater troupe got to work directly with the creator of the series who saw the full play and praised itaru specifically for how good his performance was. like if he was on kin tumblr he would've won so hard forever.
