Okay. I've been playing Tokyo Debunker today, since the release happened to catch me on a day when all I'd planned to do was write fanfiction. I just finished reading the game story prologue (it was longer than expected!), so here's a review type post. If you're reading this post not having seen a single thing about this game: it's a story-based joseimuke gacha mobile game that just released globally today. It's about a girl who suddenly finds herself attending a magic school and mingling with elite, superhuman students known as ghouls. If you look in the tumblr tag for the game you'll see what appears to be a completely different game from 2019 or so: they retooled it completely midway through development, changing just about everything about it due to "escalating competition within the gaming industry."

I'll talk about how this looks like a blatant twst clone at the end.

Starting with the positive: The story is charming. I enjoyed it thoroughly the entire time and am excited to read more. The mix between visual novel segments and motion comics was really nice--it broke things up and added a lot of oomph to the action or atmospheric scenes that visual novels generally lack. I like the art in the comic parts a lot. the live2d in the visual novel parts is... passable. Tone-wise, I think the story was a little bit all over the place and would like to see more of the horror that it opened on, but I didn't mind the comedic direction it went in either. The translation is completely seamless. The characters so far all have unique voices and are just super fun and cute. Of the ones who've had larger roles in the story so far, there's not a single one I dislike. It's all fully voiced in Japanese and the acting is solid. (I don't recognize any voices, and can't seem to find any seiyuu credits, so it seems they're not big names, but they deliver nonetheless.) Kaito in particular I found I was laughing at his lines a ton, both the voicing and the writing.

The problem is like. The gameplay is the worst dark-pattern microtransaction-riddled bullshit I've ever seen. Hundred passive timers going at all times. Fifty different item-currencies. Trying to get you to spend absurd amounts of real world money at every turn. There's like five different indicators that take you to various real-money shop items that I don't know how to dismiss the indicator, I guess you just have to spend money, wtaf. Bajillion different interlocking systems mean you have zero sense of relative value of all the different item-currencies. I did over the course of the day get enough diamonds for one ten-pull, which I haven't used yet. Buying enough diamonds for a ten-pull costs a bit under $60 (presumably USD, but there's a chance the interface is automatically making that CAD for me--not gonna spend the money to check lmfao), with an SSR rate of 1%. BULLSHIIIIIT.

There's like a goddamn thousand-word essay explaining the dozen different types of character upgrades and equippables and equippables for the equippables!! Bad! Bad game design! That's just overcomplicating bullshit to trick people into thinking they're doing something other than clicking button to make number go up! That is not gameplay!

In terms of the actual gameplay, there is none. The battle system is full auto. There might be teambuilding, but from what I've seen so far, most of that consists of hoping you pull good cards from gacha and then clicking button to make number go up. There's occasional rhythm segments but there's no original music, it's just remixes of public domain classical music lmao. I'd describe the rhythm gameplay as "at least more engaging than twisted wonderland's," which is not a high bar

And like, ok, I gotta remark on how derivative it is. Like I mentioned in my post earlier, this game is unabashedly aping twisted wonderland's setting and aesthetic. (That said, most of the stuff it steals from twst is magic school stuff that twst also basically stole from Harry Potter, so...?) However, it isn't exactly like twst: in this one, the characters say fuck a lot and bleed all over the place and do violence. Basically, the tone is a fair bit more adult than twst's kid-friendly vibe. (Not, like, adult adult, and I probably wouldn't even call it dark--it's still rated Teen lol. Just more adult than twst.)

Rather than just being students at magic school, the ghouls also go out into the mundane world to go on missions where they fight and investigate monsters and cryptids. Honestly, the magic school setting feels pretty tacked-on. The things that are enjoyable about this would've been just as enjoyable in about any other setting--you can tell this whole aspect was a late trend-chasing addition, lmao. So, yeah, it's blatantly copying twst to try to steal some players, but... Eh, I found myself not caring that much. Someone more (or less) into twst than me may find it grating.

Character-wise, eh, sure, yeah, they're a bit derivative in that aspect too, but it's a joseimuke game, the characters are always derivative. Thus far the writing & execution has been solid enough that I didn't care if they were tropey. If I were to compare it to something else, I'd say the relationship between the protagonist and the ghouls feels more like that of the sage and wizards in mahoyaku than anything from twst. There's some mystery in exactly what "ghouls" are and their place in this world that has me intrigued and wanting to know more about this setting and how each of the characters feels about it. I have a bad habit of getting my hopes up for stories that put big ideas on the table and then being disappointed when they don't follow through in a way that lives up to my expectations, though.

So, my final verdict: I kind of just hope someone uploads all the story segments right onto youtube so nobody has to deal with the dogshit predatory game to get the genuinely decent story lol. Give it a play just for the story if you have faith in your ability to resist dark patterns. Avoid at all costs if you know you're vulnerable to gacha, microtransactions, or timesinks.

Neito is by far 100% a Grandma's boy. He has one of those Grandma's who is super sweet and lets him get away with EVERYTHING since he's her first and/or only grandbaby. He spends a lot of time with her outside of school so if you ever wanna hangout with him expect a 50/50 chance of him saying " I'm with my grandma, who's way better then you." His grandma most likely taught him piano when he was younger, he just looks like a pianist. (I'm saying this as a pianist lmao) If you ever ask to meet her it's an automatic no, his grandma's for him only (don't take this in a weird way, he just doesn't like sharing attention) You're honestly surprised how the poor woman puts up with his ass.

"No I'm going to my grandma's, she's way cooler than you anyways."

If you somehow get close to him to the point where he'll ask you to hangout just know he has MAJOR gossip sessions. Total tea spiller. He'll invite you to his dorm one evening just to tell you all about Kuroiro's crush on Komori and how he for sure knows Komori's gonna reject him. As of Class 1-A (assuming you're not in it because no way in hell this boy would go out of his way to be nice to a 1-A student) he doesn't gossip, he shit talks and expects you to agree... But usually you just let him ramble. It's obvious to you that Neito envies them due to the attention they receive, even when he claims he doesn't.

"Pff what would I be jealous of? 2 people in my class failing their provisional licensing exam? Or an angry blasty boy who only cares about himself?"

If you're in 1-B he's actually kinda decent in class. A loud mouth all the way but he's real smart. Sometimes after class if you have gotten a problem wrong he'll definitely tease you and brag about being smarter. He's just the kind of guy to do that, y'know? If you have better grades then him he'll probably get super jealous of you, and maybe even try to start an academic rivalry.

"HA! I KNEW I WAS BETTER- oh you have a 98 in AP English." (He has a 95)

Meanwhile, if you're in the support course and he deems you as a friend he'll suddenly be in the workshop 24/7! He just loves adjusting his costume especially if you're the one to do it. He'll follow you around the workshop and just ramble on about gossip, or his day. Considering you probably won't push him away you just listen as you adjust some of his gadgets. (I NEED A REQ ASKING FOR THIS 🙏)

"No no no! It's not the right shade, I'm thinking maybe a little bit darker..?"

Pays for everything. I know I've said this about multiple characters (I have a habit of reading my works once then never again so I'm not sure which but I've definitely said this before.) but he just can't help it! He has money, a rich boy for sure hence his usual cockiness. But if you two are close suddenly you don't have to pay for any lunches you two go out on or if you two simply go to a corner store or something. He'll definitely bribe you with it though.

"Remember that time I spent a bunch of yen at lunch? Now can you come over and let me tell you about the new class A scandal?"

Remember how I said he looks like a pianist? He's 100% a show off when it comes to piano. If you two are out and about and he sees a piano prepare yourself to hear all 3 movements of Moonlight Sonata. He probably isn't the romantic type of guy to write you a song, but he loves playing FOR you.

"There's this song I wanna play, wanna listen to me play it? I need your input."

Compliments boost his ego so much it's not even funny. Compliment his quirk, or his hero name, or just anything and he gets so cocky. He'll even compare himself to some Class 1-A people. It means a lot when you praise him and it'll never leave his mind. He also usually doesn't thank you, just agrees.

"I know right, Phantom Thief is so brilliant compared to Lord Explosion Murder or whatever-"

Neito is an attention whore, especially when it comes to you. He loves to soak up attention and never wants you to spend it on anyone else. It's like you're a spotlight shining on him. You two are almost always together anyways. One is never seen without the other and it's actually somewhat sweet for someone like Neito. Such a quality time guy.

"Wanna play Dress To Impress? I'll buy you VIP."

Not too big for physical affection, he doesn't take me as the type of guy to like being touched. Most of the time he's sore from training anyways. Your presence is enough for him to be satisfied. HOWEVER, if physical touch is your main love language he doesn't mind holding hands or cuddles here and there.

"My muscles are sore and they hurt, no I don't wanna cuddle right now."

Has definitely taken you on shopping sprees. He likes to show you off and enjoys spoiling you. I can definitely picture him placing a Vivienne Westwood necklace along your neck. (Sorry Vivienne Westwood is my favorite brand.) Maybe it's because he was spoiled as a kid or something else, he just enjoys buying you stuff.

As mentioned Neito isn't a big guy when it comes to touch, so mutual masturbation is perfect. Fields of Mistria initial thoughts

As you may or may not know I am a total sucker for farming simulator games. I don't usually go for Early Access games, but Fields of Mistria seemed extremely promising even though it's just launched into Early Access. So I want to talk about a few of the things I really like about it (and maybe a few that I don't). I will probably be drawing comparisons to Stardew Valley since it's the current preeminent Farming Sim of our time (but I'm not dissing it I love Stardew Valley as well. I think Fields of Mistria does a good job of taking what worked about Stardew and tweaking some things to improve even further)

But the tl;dr if you want it: I think this game is worth the money even in its current state

Trying to keep things as spoiler-free as possible, not that it's hard since the story isn't really too far yet in early access

Things that I like:

1 There is a wide range of cosmetics! Also, you don't have to store them anywhere. You "unlock" them, and then you can change your clothes, hair, skin tone, etc. at any time from the character customization menu. I'd have to check because I don't have the game right in front of me atm, but I think you can even change your name and the name of your farm at any time as well?

2) You don't actually need to have materials on hand to construct farm buildings, nor do you need to pre-clear the space! You buy the blueprint from the carpenter shop, which goes to your inventory. You take it back to your farm yourself and lay it down. Once you lay it down it spawns a drop box for materials, and you can put the materials in at your own pace. This makes it super easy to just drop a couple of wood in at the end of every day until it's done. This is a godsend for me especially, since I never remember to bring all the materials with me when I want to build things in Stardew

3) Speaking of convenience: you don't need to have any materials on hand when you're crafting! This is a godsend because when you initially start the game, all the crafting stations are in town and you have like no bag space. It'll just automatically withdraw things from your chest

The downside is, if you were trying to save stuff you have to be careful (the game will indicate when it starts drawing from your chests to craft the next item though, which is nice!)

4) Also speaking of convenience: shops are open and unlocked 24/7, and you don't have to have someone working there to buy things! This means if you realize you forgot to re-plant your crops at 10 pm you can still pop up to the general store to buy more seeds before the day is done

5) The romance events are all interesting and done well so far! I've only seen a couple though. It also appears that triggering them is based on completing a request on the community board, so you can't miss them like you might in Stardew

The downside is that there's so many community board quests that it's easy for these to get buried. I'm sure I've picked up half a dozen that I just haven't done yet because I haven't gotten around to knocking out some of these requests

6) I like that progressing in the mines requires you to collect items from the previous set of floors in the mines. It's good incentive to go back and collect more resources while still feeling like you're advancing

7) Dropping stuff on the ground and leaving it there won't de-spawn it. That means you can go around and "collect" resources, leave them there, and then circle back in a few hours or even a few days!

8) There's at least one older bachelor and bachelorette option! For the guys you have fellow farmer Hayden (who has a bit of a dad bod build) and the town's doctor Valen (she's a bit more masc looking). I'll take it

9) You can bang a dragon. They haven't completed the story enough to get events with him yet in Early Access, but he's a dragon. nuff said

10) You don't have to upgrade your tools in sequence, and equipment is separate from your cosmetics. This means you can skip straight from the worn pickaxe to the silver one!

Things I don't like (honestly most of these are minor nitpicks that can/might be improved upon):

1 I do wish there was some more body diversity, especially among the women. With the exception of Hayden pretty much all the romance options are pretty/handsome and slender (with pretty decently sized chests in the case of the women and pretty decently sized muscles in the case of the men)

I know they can design different body types because one of the Saturday Market vendors is a bit bigger (but she's not a romance option obviously), so why not?

2) Pretty much every item sells for less than it would if you were to craft it into something else. E.g. Iron ore sells for less than iron bars, and iron bars sell for less than an iron pickaxe

This is kind of half positive, half negative. It's good incentive to craft stuff! On the other hand, I'm a massive video-game hoarder so if I know I might be able to craft something that's worth more down the line I'll just save the item. This has turned my organization into a nightmare, and because I sell almost nothing money is much harder to come by

3) Backpack and storage management is. Woof. You start out with only ten item slots, and if you're like me and you carry all your tools all the time then that's going to fill up fast. At the start you'll only have ~2 slots to actually carry things other than tools. I think it only goes up in increments of 10 too, so even with the third bag upgrade you have about 30 slots (for reference, Stardew starts you with 12 and goes up in increments of 12 before capping out at 36)

I don't think this would be a problem if they just gave you a separate "tool bag" inventory where you could keep all your tools all the time, that didn't also take up bag space. Tools taking up bag space is honestly one of those "we should be over this by now" things in farming sims, IMO

4) Speaking of the bag... this is probably only a consideration if you play on controller, but the controls for swapping between items could use some work

If you've played Stardew with a controller then you know how it works. The left and right bumpers will swap between bag "tabs" and the triggers will move you between items in the currently selected tab. I haven't played around with trying to remap it, but by default Mistria doesn't do this.

Instead one of the triggers is to use a magic spell, the other is to throw items, and the bumpers are to swap between items in your bag. This means if you're on tab "A" and you need an item in tab "C" you need to manually press the bumper 10+ times until it scrolls aaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the way around to tab "C"

I think if you play with keyboard and mouse then you can just tap the different tabs so it's less of a problem

5) Minor nitpick, but when I play with a controller it doesn't get rid of the cursor. The cursor is pretty big and chunky so this is pretty distracting (I play on a dual monitor setup so I just move the mouse to the other monitor while I play, but it'd be nice if the cursor stayed gone while I played

6) So far the magic is a bit underutilized. I think I've only used the restore spell a handful of times when I was deep in the mines or fishing (fishing takes SO much energy). You have VERY limited magical stamina so you're probably not going to be using spells too much

I'll try to add to this if I think of more, but this is the stuff that's sticking out to me right now!

How would Ruggie interact with all the bottoms

I tried to think about it and this is what I came up with, Anon! All of these ended up being somehow about Ruggie taking or not taking advantage of them lol Sorry if this is disappointing, but I guess this is just how I see Ruggie’s interaction with anyone.

Riddle – they don’t interact much, but I feel like Ruggie prefers to keep things neutral between them. He thinks that Riddle is your typical sheltered boy from a rich family, which wouldn’t be a problem at all, but he feels very close-minded and rigid… So it’s difficult for them to have a proper conversation, plus Riddle has too many mental issues to unpack. Ruggie thinks that he requires a lot of work, but could be very profitable in the future, so he tries to keep things neutrally friendly between them. A project that Ruggie isn’t quite ready to tackle at this moment lol Still, he’ll say hi and be friendly with him from time to time. Won’t go out of his way for it though.

Deuce – they don’t interact all that much, and Ruggie doesn’t think that Deuce has a lot to offer, so he doesn’t really spend energy on even thinking about him… That being said, if they were to be in a room together, they would probably have something to talk about. In fact, it would be Ruggie who initiated the conversation. “It’s rough, huh? Being in Heartslabyul” or something, nothing too serious, just being friendly and sniffing out what Deuce’s deal is. He does find him kind of cute and similar to Epel.

Leona – we all know how it is; Ruggie finds it very easy to work with Leona. Of course, he is super demanding and annoying sometimes, but Ruggie is very dedicated to this relationship! I have a hc post about them, wow, I forgot about that.

Jamil – they’re each other’s “that one guy who gets it”. Sometimes they exchange confused/annoyed stares… they aren’t super close, but they understand each other without any words. They would make a lovely couple, even if it’s just for a fling and nothing serious, and both of them are aware of that. Ruggie finds Jamil very attractive in fact… I actually have a post about them too!

Vil – sometimes Ruggie daydreams about how nice it would be to hang out with Vil because of how many good connections he has, how much money and status, how much he appreciates hard work and all; but it always ends with chilling realisation that if he gets closer to Vil, he would automatically get closer to Rook, so he abandons this idea every single time. Of course, Vil can be annoying sometimes about stupid things, but it’s not like Ruggie isn’t used to it because of certain someone. He also feels like it sours Leona’s mood whenever he gets a bit closer to Vil… everyone is so annoying!! But in general, when he gets to interact with Vil, he tries to be stay on his good side and be sweet. Ruggie still hopes he would have an opportunity to get closer to Vil after they graduate 🙏 He has a lot to offer, Vil! Make him your boytoy! He doesn’t mind!

Epel – Ruggie likes Epel a lot, but I also feel like he treats him like a pup and not like a bottom lol For the most time he finds it very funny when Epel fawns over Leona because he instantly starts thinking about all the spicy sessions they (Leona and Ruggie) had together… So yeah, for now he just watches over Epel, ruffles his hair, tickles and teases him sometimes, sometimes they play a little roughly. Some moments Ruggie starts thinking that Epel is going to be very nasty when he starts to have sex. He doesn’t doubt it even for a moment that he’s going to do it with some muscle-y big guy lol

Idia – Ruggie has plans for Idia. He really enjoys the fact that he isn’t very sociable because this is the type of people to have very few but meaningful connections, and Ruggie really wants to be that one pleasant meaningful connection in Idia’s life. In Ruggie’s ideal world, he’ll get to work for Idia in the future because Idia will look at him and go “oh I know this guy, he’s chill” or even “ah, I like this guy a lot, would be cool to have him around”. So he likes to pop up every now and then and make Idia more comfortable in a subtle way, like inviting someone to sit with him just so they don’t sit with Idia, picking up things that Idia dropped, etc. Sometimes it feels like taming an animal… the progress is super slow though… Azul might get it before he does…

Silver – he likes Silver, and in theory Silver would be very useful for him to get closer to Diasomnia in general, but this isn’t his priority right now, so when he’s around Silver he just… kind of chills? For some reason, being around him is relaxing to Ruggie, especially compared to every other 2nd year. He tried to flirt with Silver once to see if he would get anything from him, but got the feeling that Silver is at the same time very oblivious and earnest, and very ready to do everything to please a person if you ask it in a right way. Ruggie doesn’t abuse this knowledge though… yet.

Malleus – Ruggie only dares to dream about it. Way too dangerous and way too troublesome; if Leona gets pissy when he gets closer to Vil, he gets SUPER pissy when he gets closer to Malleus. And it isn’t even easy to get closer to Malleus in the first place – can’t even find the guy most of the times! So Ruggie prefers to pick his battles, but if he is in the room with Malleus and they’re all alone… he’ll try to flirt. Very carefully. Just in case.

Ancestry & Background

good news, those pills from Dream worked and Bunyan’s normal now. so she’s a Human. yeah just a normal one. she gets +1 Constitution and Wisdom, as well as proficiency with Deception (no judging, the proles don’t need to know everything you’re up to), and the Magic Initiate feat. now you can Create Bonfires for some homestyle bbq, Mold Earth to make gold statues with no budget, and Find Familiar to get yourself a mike. the alligator, not the sound equipment. though tbf you’ll need both.

stop me if you heard this one before- you need to constantly make money or people get angry with you, and you make things that could generously be described as art. that’s a Bunyan all right, and that’s also a Guild Artisan! with this background, you gain proficiency with Insight and Persuasion to scout for actors and convince them to work for no money. you literally have a director in your pocket at all times, I’m sure she’ll help out.

Ability Scores

first up is Constitution. there’s a lot of bunyan, and that means a lot of HP. second highest is Strength, because you still punch people good, and you have the lifting capacity of three people. because you are three people. we’re still only building bunyan though. third is Wisdom, bc again you have three pairs of eyes to watch out with. this does mean your Charisma is a bit low, but it makes sense. you’re good enough at it to keep people happy while you’re there, but the second you leave it all goes to shit. that also means your Dexterity is low bc you’re a big target, but we’re dumping Intelligence. you’ve got people to think for you.

Class Levels

1. Fighter 1: starting off as a fighter, you get the Unarmed Fighting Style, turning your fists into d8 weapons (or d6s if you have one hand busy). you can also automatically deal damage to anything you’ve grappled- not a lot, but it’s a nice bonus. you also get a Second Wind once a short rest, letting you heal up as a bonus action. you wouldn’t think you could chug maple syrup that fast, but I guess anything’s possible when you’re president.

you also get proficiency with Strength and Constitution saves, as well as Animal Handling to keep Mike on your shoulders and Athletics.

2. Fighter 2: second level fighters can make an Action Surge once a short rest, adding an extra action to your turn. now you can use up all your spell slots in like, one turn! or you can punch more, your choice.

3. Cleric 1: at first level you get Spells you can cast and prepare like all clerics by using your Wisdom, but you also become an Implement of Myths, giving you proficiency in Performance so you can star in your own movie! a leader has to look good in front of a camera these days.

you can also forge an Emboldening Bond, bonding a couple allies as an action for up to a minute. while bonded, any two creatures within 30’ of each other can add a d4 to their attacks, checks, or saves once a minute. you can use this proficiency times a day. admittedly the attack bonus kind of falls off once you’re making multiple attacks per turn, but having a near permanent resistance bonus is great for defense.

speaking of, your spells! for cantrips, Guidance lets you backseat game everyone around you, but in a good way, giving them a d4 bonus to their next skill check. you also get Thaumaturgy so everyone can hear you no matter what they do to escape, and the Light cantrip to keep your films watchable. don’t make the same mistakes as game of thrones.

you also get two free first level spells, Heroism and Sanctuary. the former lets you turn any random schmo into a hero worthy of the big screen, with more HP and immunity to being frightened, while the latter will keep the angry mob off you and onto Guda. hey, we all have to make sacrifices here for movie magic! outside of the freebies, I guess Command is a good pick to be bossy with, though it’s limited to one-word demands.

4. Fighter 3: oh thank god we’re out of the spellcaster levels. back in good ol’ martial territory it’s time to become a Rune Knight, letting you carve runes into items you keep on hands to… basically cast spells with. dammit.

as a Rune Carver, you can pick two runes from a list, all of which give passive buffs as long as you’re holding onto them, but you can also activate them for a short-term super buff once per short rest per rune. our runes of choice starting out are the Fire Rune for doubled proficiency with tool checks, as well as the option to douse an enemy with red-hot maple syrup upon hitting them, dealing fire damage and restraining them until they make a strength save, or until a minute passes. you also get the Stone Rune, giving you advantage on insight checks and Darkvision, and you can activate it to force a wisdom save on a nearby creature. if they fail, they’re charmed and spend their turn posing for the camera until they succeed. (btw, all your DCs for this class use your constitution.)

your simp-based powers also let you grow with Giant Minute for a minute at a time, making you Large and giving you advantage on strength checks and saves. you also deal an extra d6 of damage once a turn! you can check your twitter proficiency times a day, which is frankly healthier than how often most people use it.

5. Fighter 4: at level four you get your first Ability Score Improvement, and tbh you need that Strength boosted just a lil bit. it’s not as convoluted as the last two levels, but hitting’s good.

6. Fighter 5: in fact, hitting’s so good you can do it more times now! fifth level fighters get an Extra Attack, letting you attack two times per action. it’s like attacking, but extra!

7. Fighter 6: sixth level fighters keep those ASIs coming, and we’re going to use this one to learn the Strike of the Giants, putting a lil stank on your fists when you punch people. and by stank I mean Fire. you can add 1d10 fire damage once per turn, proficiency times a day. you could pick other options if you like, but your NP isn’t complicated, and neither is the fire option.

8. Fighter 7: at level seven you gain a Runic Shield to protect your precious employés. when one of them gets hit while you can see them, you can react to force a re-roll on the attack against them, up to proficiency times a day. you need those likes, and you can’t get them if your supporters are dead!

9. Fighter 8: another ASI already! grab the Ember of the Fire Giant for +1 Strength and another source of mapley debuffing goodness. you resist fire damage, and you can deal it with a Searing Ignition, making a lil aoe of fire damage that also forces everyone inside to make a wisdom save or become blinded for a round. you can also use this once per turn, proficiency times a day. I honestly think it’s really weird your NP isn’t an aoe this time around, but we can skirt that rule thanks to this being a debuff.

10. Fighter 9: ninth level fighters are Indomitable, letting you re-roll a failed save once a day. it feels a bit weird that they’re more strict about this than the extra action, but I also wouldn’t send pinkertons to someone’s house so maybe WotC just knows something I don’t.

11. Fighter 10: tenth level rune knights have a Great Stature, giving you a couple extra inches even when you’re not in your super mode. still have a ways to go to catch up to the old you though. also you deal more damage while big.

even better, you have the Cloud Rune now, so delightful assassin’s giving you advantage on Sleight of Hand checks all the time, and you can use your reaction to redirect attacks targeting you onto another creature! I’m sure your employés won’t mind, it’s in their contract.

12. Fighter 11: another level, another Extra Attack! now you can attack three times a turn! fight on, bunyan!

13. Fighter 12: use this ASI to round out your Strength score with the Crusher feat! once a turn you can push a creature when you bludgeon it, and if you crit with a bludgeoning attack all attacks against that creature are made with advantage until your next turn! if I got hit by a fist larger than I am, I think I’d be pushed back too.

14. Fighter 13: congrats, it’s another Indomitable. they uh… they kind of ran out of new stuff to give fighter at this point.

15. Fighter 14: another ASI nets you the Eldritch Adept feat, giving you a free requirementless Eldritch Invocation from warlock! the only one I want is Armor of Shadows for the free mage armor casts. you don’t wear armor, and your dexterity is +0, you need this.

16. Fighter 15: at fifteenth level you are now a Master of Runes, doubling your activated rune usage and recharging them on short rests rather than long ones. congrats, you’ve unlocked the Koyanskaya system. NP spam away.

also you get the Frost Rune now, mostly because there wasn’t any other one I wanted. you always have advantage on Animal Handling and Intimidation checks, but you can also invoke it for a +2 bonus on all Strength and Constitution saves.

17. Fighter 16: yet another ASI, but for once we’re putting this one in Constitution. more health equals less dead!

18. Fighter 17: another level of “nothing new, but more old”. you can now Action Surge twice a short rest, and you’re Indomitable three times a day. it’s not a huge change, but it is change we can believe in. bunyan 2024, there’s still time.

19. Fighter 18: 18th level rune knights are Runic Juggernauts, increasing the damage you deal while big to a d10, increasing the max size possible in this mode to Huge, and increasing your melee reach by 5’, the only fucking way I’ve seen to increase your reach while growing which is weird, right? with this last feature, you’re finally able to measure up to your past self. congrats.

20. Fighter 19: one last level, grab the Tough feat for an extra 40 HP. if we go by the OG version of how HP works, I’m pretty sure you’re the only servant we’ve built so far that would have more than 1, and that should reflect in your actual HP total.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

like the other one, super bunyan brings a lot of Utility with boosted skills and a bunch of little trinkets that can help out in random situations. also, while you don’t have a lot of cleric magic, it’s still one of the better spell lists in the game to pull from, so you’ll be fine.

speaking of spells, you pack a pretty solid Magical Defense thanks to all your indomitability, protections from good and evil, and your bonds of friendship make all your saves a bit better. add in your big HP bar, and attacking you with fireballs and the like doesn’t seem like such a good idea.

thanks to your overlapping punch addons, you can choose how hard you hit pretty easily, either spacing out your searing ignitions and giant strikes and runes for consistently high damage, or shoving them all in on a critical hit for burst damage instead. it’s not a ton of variety, but it’s the big-picture strategic thinking that made you the boss in the first place.

Cons:

while when you deal your damage is flexible, your damage types aren’t. you have fire, and bludgeoning. and the bludgeoning isn’t even magical, so good luck fighting anything tougher than Mary Anning.

you have a good amount of HP, but that really only matters if your AC is able to keep the worst of the attacks off you. and it can’t. your AC is terrible, this is why most people fight in something more than flannel.

unlike the OG, your Mobility isn’t improved in any way from just walking around, so being huge and walking through a fight can be a huge issue, making you the target of plenty of attacks of opportunity. no wonder this bunyan only gets big for her NP.

So, for Christmas break, I've been staying with a very considerate older couple. When I got here, I found out that they're also...comfortably wealthy. I wish I could have been live-blogging my stay here, but this summary post will have to suffice.

MOSS'S MUSINGS: HOUSEGUEST EDITION.

-Ask which dishes you are allowed to use. I didn't know this would even be a question--I grew up with one set of dishes--but it matters. The dishes we've been using are red with snowmen on them. Tonight I put my soup in a red bowl with Christmas trees around the edge. That was wrong and bad. I have been told that they "prefer I not use that" because it is "for special occasions," and was told to "set it aside so I can hand-wash it." Side note, rich people also own things that can't go in the dishwasher. Thankfully they told me about this ahead of time.

-In general, they make requests when they mean to give you instructions. "I'm having some ladies over tonight, so if you'd like to clean the bathroom, that would be fine." = I, Moss, need to clean the bathroom before I leave for work this morning. They're secret instructions--instructions in a suggestion-shaped suit. I like to think of it as a secret code that I'm very smart for solving. It helps me to not tear my hair out.

-House thing that shook me to the core: They have heat vents on the floors under the sinks! So you can wash your hands or wash dishes and your feets don't get cold!

-Speaking of heat: heated mattress pads exist! It's like a heating pad for your whole body. High settings are nice for muscle aches; low settings are so cozy to sleep on.

-Speaking of mattresses: The guest room has a Sleep Number mattress. I think it's a scam. It's a balloon under your mattress to adjust the firmness/softness. I am 240 lbs. If it isn't over half inflated, my butt's on the bedframe.

-They are weird about trash. All food waste is handled separately and taken straight to the bin in the garage so it doesn't smell. The kitchen trash can lid has a motion sensor. It's automatic. Scared the daylights out of me when I first walked past it to get water at night.

-Speaking of water, ask what water you should use. Tap is not acceptable to some! My hosts have a fridge dispenser. Unfortunately it dispenses cold water. I have worked around this by getting water in advance of my needs and letting it change toward room temp. Also, you can't put drinks on the furniture! Wood is different from the plastic-coated OSB furniture that I grew up with. I must remember now to use coasters because any spills or drips can leave white marks.

-When they start discussing money, try not to let your mouth drop open at the amount of zeroes. One host bought a new car and was bragging to me about how he only paid $28,000, and that was actually $5,000 off for having a certain type of credit card. I just worked the mental math for the discount percentage to keep my brain from exploding. $5k is more than I paid for my entire car. My family motto is "Buy used and drive it 'til the wheels fall off." I did not say so.

-Most importantly, they've been extremely kind and generous to me. They dropped my rent for the month down to almost nothing. They bought any groceries I expressed interest in. I'm going back to campus with some of the best homemade soup of my life, and a coupon for an oil change, and a new appreciation for dark chocolate almonds. When I got here, my hostess had set up a desk for my sewing machine in her sewing room (!! a whole room for sewing!!) and taught me to use a rotary cutter and an iron that's entirely too complex.

tl;dr rich-ish people are super weird about some things you wouldn't expect, and your head will explode a few times, but they're still people and my overall experience has been great.

HOW DOES POLITICS WORK??

1. Primaries are not necessarily real

Ok so we all know how the process appears. On your state's primary election day (different days for different states, annoyingly) you vote for who you want for president. The person with the most votes wins the state.

But here's what people don't always know...

Each state party has different rules about how delegates are assigned. Some give 100% to the winner of the popular vote, some go proportionally. But regardless, these delegates (who are also voted on as a super down ballot thing that most people don't pay attention to) go to the DNC convention where they do the official ballot. Think of this as the electoral college but just for the Dem Party. Each state has a number of votes, theoretically the popular vote guides how the delegates vote, but legally there is flexibility. PLUS, you might see some history or that Netflix biopic where you hear things like "releasing delegates" or "releasing delegates to...". What that means is a candidate who doesn't have enough delegates to win can "release" their delegates to vote for whoever they personally want, or whoever the candidate directs them to. "Multiple ballots" at a convention means that no one has enough delegates the first time and they have to vote again. And in between those votes the candidates and their teams make deals and discuss and ideally people drop out and release delegates.

So your vote in your state is incredibly important. But also. It might not be.

2. There wasn't an official Dem nominee yet anyway

As I explained above, the nominee is decided officially at the DNC convention. You saw the same type of system at the RNC this week. It wasn't until the last day of the convention that they did the official vote and Trump officially accepted the nomination from his party. Before that, there wasn't technically an official nominee yet. Legally. Procedurally. That's part of why it was so weird that they had a debate so early.

Similarly, the DNC hasn't happened yet, so there's not an official nominee either. Typically people don't run against an incumbent president though so it's mostly for show. Obviously, this year it won't be for show, and some of what I talked about in #1 will be relevant.

3. Line of succession doesn't really matter but pipeline of talent does

You may know that the VP takes over as President if the President dies. Next in line is the Speaker of the House, and then it goes down a long list. But Biden didn't die, he just isn't running for reelection and waited until the last minute to do that.

Biden did endorse Kamala. But that doesn't mean Kamala is definitely automatically the nominee. And there's no guarantee of who the VP candidate would be. It just means that she's the front runner and likely has access to the entire campaign infrastructure (including money) that Biden had.

So who else besides Kamala? It doesn't have to go by current position, which is why the line of succession doesn't really matter. It's the pipeline of talent - meaning who else is relevant doing good work and has name recognition. Some names that have been floated:

Gavin Newsom (CA Governor) Gretchen Whitmer (MI Governor) Pete Buttigieg (Mayor Pete, tranpo secretary, former candidate) And others

And names that people float but will never happen: Michelle Obama Hillary Clinton Nancy Pelosi Chuck Schumer etc.

So who's gonna run for president in November?

TBH probably Kamala because she has the biggest head start and those endorsements are powerful. She'll probably pick the most generic white man as her VP. But other people are likely to try and give it a go as well and it wont be official until the last day of the DNC

Something I've noticed is how quickly a meta and elitist seemed to show up in the helldivers community, small amounts but they're there

And I get that the game has a battlepass and a whole ass premium battlepass but we know these aren't going away so gamers have already blitzed there way through for no reason other than frankly its the only way they know HOW to play a game with these systems, when in reality they can just take it nice and slow, take all the time in the world and actually experience the game, play the game first, grind later for once

Because honestly look back at most games released today, think about the big popular ones and their battlepasses, Fortnite, Overwatch, Destiny 2, Apex, anything else that uses FOMO to get you to grind until you hate it but you have to play because than you're wasting money

Of course meta gaming super grinding players showed up and grinded the game first before actually playing it, thats become a learned behavior basically because most live service games HATE THE PLAYER, Helldivers does NOT hate you, it wants you to play, enjoy your time with its frantic action and the community, being a meta gaming asshole in a game thats not competitive is dumb, if you eant to use those items than go ahead, I really like using the breaker shotgun because its a fully automatic shotgun and thats kicks ass! Not because its the strongest in the game (which is annoying but also I haven't gotten to use the other wepons yet because I just hit the breaker and the scythe looks so cool) but if you try and force people to use "the meta" they will be annoyed at best and just leave at worst because they want to play the game they bought how they want to play and you're actively making that difficult for no reason other than you only play the Meta.

Stop being a meta only player, go find what YOU like because I know most people got the Meta from a YouTube video and haven't really done anything for themselves

Mini-Review: Bee and PuppyCat: Lazy in Space

Bee, an unemployed woman in her early twenties, encounters a mysterious creature she terms PuppyCat. She adopts this apparent cat-dog hybrid, and together they go on a series of temporary jobs to pay off her monthly rent. These bizarre jobs take the duo across strange worlds out in space.

This is the kind of show I often enjoy, episodic while expanding the world and our view as the stories pass; humorous without making me cringe.

It's a very fun show that looks like its aimed at kids, and would probably be fine for that audience--it's not adult humor in the vein of things like The Simpsons or Rick and Morty, but it feels like adults are the audience because of the atmosphere.

Bee is a mess, in a recognizable way: she's been fired from her job for possibly valid reasons but also partially for taking the blame for someone else. She's aimless: if it wasn't for the rent being due, she wouldn't really be looking for another job.

The aimlessness of being an adult, yet not automatically having things all together, is a running theme. Bee definitely doesn't. Her best friend and neighbor, Deckard, is struggling to decide between following his passion, and staying where he is in a predictable environment with friends and family.

His sister Cas gave up a passion project in favor of the predictable work and stability of software engineering, something she has complicated feelings about. Their landlord, Cardamom, seems to have everything all together, except he's a 7-year-old with no adult supervision, and as the episodes go on you realize that his straightforward approach to life is actually a child being forced to handle things that are an adult's domain.

The setting is also fun: it's hard to tell whether things like toilets be a place to store food instead of, well, bodily functions are normal, or why a 7-year-old seriously acting as a landlord doesn't seem to raise many comments. Is this a fantasy land where things are just kind skewed anyway? Or are Bee and her neighbors extra-odd? In that way, it reminds me a bit of Steven Universe, with its mix of cartoon reality and non-main characters eventually making clear that they think this is weird, too.

The actual fantastical bits are interesting, too. We get information about Puppycat towards the end, but he definitely has secrets, and Bee isn't as straightforward as she appears at the beginning, either. Their visits to other planets/dimensions (?) to earn money would be an interesting show even without showing any of their home lives.

You can definitely see the influences of classic magical girl anime, but this show is also the answer to the premise: what if magical girl, but tired adult? What if magical girl, but it's just kinda a job?

Verdict

Voices: Very good! They sound very...realistic, not super polished. I don't mean that they sound like inexperienced voice actors, I mean that they sound real and variable, which isn't common in voice acting. I really enjoyed them.

Also, special shoutout to my favorite character, Toast, whose first line had me wracking my brain to figure out why did her voice sound SO familiar and why was her voice affecting something in my emotions until I looked it up, and her voice actress is the English voice of Sailor Moon/Serena that I grew up with!

Visuals: Vibrant and pastel colors, a very round cartoon style, it feels modern and cozy.

Worth watching? Yes! On one hand, it's just a fun series, the balance between "just living life as an aimless young adult" and "brightly-colored fantastical adventures" is done well. The supporting cast of characters is great and entertaining. And on the other hand, it's also nice to watch a cartoon that feels very much like the target audience are adults, but not because the show is raunchy. I really hope we get another season someday.

Where to watch (USA, as of September 2023): Netflix. Note that a 10-episode original web animation (titled Bee and Puppycat without any subtitle) can be found on Youtube; the Netflix series I watched is both a reboot (covers the original series' material in a few episodes) and then continuation. After asking advice on here, general consensus was that newbies starting with the Netflix series is a good idea, but there's nothing wrong with the older, original web animation.

I want to like JJ but I can't AND THATS OKAY

I hate that when you dislike a character in a show that's a woman it's automatically that you're sexist , super not true , because of this I'm gonna give you into a glimpse of me and show you why I dislike JJ.

I'm gonna start off with her eluding to being a mean girl. The reason I say elude is they never said it straight up but when she said " I was nice even to people like you" to Spencer my guard was automatically up. In terms of my defensive nature I will go to BAT for my friends. And when it comes to people attacking my fictional fav In universe ( you can dislike whoever you want irl ) it's the same. It's the same reason I can't stand seiver.

The mom thing. Yes this is the fault of the writers not being able to see a woman past her mother ness when she gives birth. And that gives me a visceral reaction. Many of the cases when even a hint of children are involved it's always JJ that goes " I'm a mother I understand " otherwise she's not prominent in the episode. I dislike the stereotype that women are only acknowledged by their status as a mother after childbirth. ( this is NOT me saying that is all is character is this is me explaining why a hint of this stereotype makes me more adverse to the character) especially because I myself really do not want children for many personal reasons, I don't hate them I just know ow how much work and money they are to have for myself. But because of this it makes me adverse to the character.

The Emily situation. Now this is purely a " I would have done this differently " and Spencer says my feelings exsactly when he tells Hotch he wasn't the one holding him while he was crying. I dislike Hotch in this instance too, I think the fact they kept Emily life a secret for however long was stupid. Is the team going through consistent grief any easier than them keeping a secret which they do all the fucking time. Anyway if I knew my friend was in that much turmoil my logic would be " this person is smart enough to keep this a secret I need to tell him. I'm not saying she's evil for this I'm just saying I'd do it differently and I didn't like the way she or Hotch handled the situation.

All in all I hate that black and white thinking is still so prevalent. I do see why people love JJ she's attractive and a bad ass. She has some great moments in the show . But because of how I think she's not my favorite.

They closed the video call, smile dropping instantly. Anna massaged her cheeks profusely after spending twenty minutes forcedly smiling nonstop.  Lorena, one of her lawyers was tipping quickly on her phone barely glancing the screen, as she sighed. “I think it went well,” she adds when she notices Rachel and Anna are looking at her for a reaction. “We knew cancelling wasn’t on the table, so this is a good thing!” she finishes, glancing once quickly to the screen with a bright smile. “And after you finish signing the virtual contracts, it will be finally all wrapped up!”  

“I just thought it was going to be a bit longer, to be honest,” Anna mutters standing, brushing her skirt’s sides. It had been twenty minutes of reading he new contract and the clauses they had already negotiated. Both parts had played the role of being complacent with everything, bright smiles not wavering as they both took a clause or two at first they hadn’t fully agreed. Like her participation in some of the media the drivers had to shoot before season started. Or the bonus payment her crew would be getting directly from them. Neither part had wanted for any problem to stop them from finally signing after finally getting something that made them both happy.

Lorena tsks before shrugging, closing her phone with a louder click.  “Big bargaining had already been made, that’s why you pay us, this was just a formality”. She quickly ordered her things inside her designer bag, her heels clicking to the door getting ready to leave.  “Only something really bad could have stopped it”.

The last few weeks had been filled with last minute recording sessions, last minute meetings about the old F1 contract, last minute Christmas shopping, last minute practices. Everything has been last minute, but every minute had been accounted for. And even when Anna’s very organized persona loved her millimetric schedule, it had been comforting to see how the whole team had been able to wing it without letting anything falling behind. She was in good hands. Rachel by her side was distracted by her own phone, probably finishing the schedule for next week.  

The F1 contract had been once again signed to complete the alterations. The biggest conflict that had been holding up their end to fulfil it had been the very open ends of the contract. Once she understood what her first firm had made her sign, she had cursed them for days. Now with Lorena’s firm, one who’s sole purpose was profiles like Anna’s everything had been tied down nicely. The vague description of the performance she owed the organization from the fatidic first contract had been reassessed. They had been trying for the last couple of years to force her hand down with paying the same amount they had paid for the first run she had done four years ago. Now she would be performing once again, to which she had no problem to do so but she would be paid accordingly to her current status, not the former which had been the problem from the beginning. She was sick and tired of feeling exploited first for her age when she was younger and for her being female. She didn’t need the money, but she hated how they had tried to slip it past her as if her team would be stupid enough to accept it. To make her point, she had made the effort of automatically giving over a considerable part of her payment for a foundation, helping female talent for entering to F1, as drivers engineers and more meaningful positions. It was long due and much needed.

The F1 on their side had agreed in an effort to keep trying to increase the followers of the sport, trying to Super-Ball it. A performance from a rising star looked promising when they hired her first. Two performances had been considered a great success from them then. Now a full home run with the plus side of also having her participate as sponsor – even if it was more female orientated -.

Lorena left quickly, speaking with Rachel to arrange any other signature that was needed within the week. Once out, Rachel gave her a look. Her petite assistant was her right hand and partner in almost everything from her work persona to her more private matters.

Deal signed and done for, there were a couple of things in her mind she had been fighting to keep out of her head. She gave a short glance to some of the pamphlets laying over the table. They were examples of the 2022 season, mostly propaganda of the drivers. The protagonist being the reigning world champion, who she had to admit had only grown finer in the last few years.

“Now what do we do with that ex-boyfriend of yours?”  Rachel interrupted her assessment of Max’s smirk, making her flinch away from the poster she had taken absently.

“Max?” Anna asked confused, guiltily pushing the photo of her former boyfriend with the other drivers. Rachel and her hadn’t talked at all about Max. Rachel had arrived to her team a year after they had dated and Anna had avoided the subject of speaking about him except a drunken night, she had spilled the beans about him. It was true that the firsts few years after the break up, avoiding F1 had been the healthiest way Anna found to stop thinking about him. She had been more open to negotiations last year because she thought she was over it. She had been apparently in love with her newest ex, she had even seen his first championship win without feeling the familiar clench in the stomach she would get before.   

Rachel laughed loudly, interrupting Anna from her musings about the current world champion. “As much as I wish to know what’s in your head about him… I meant Robert,” Anna huffed annoyed, that was a sourer subject. And that was a more logical subject of discussion for their current media problem.

“I’ve blocked him already,” Anna said walking into her room with Rachel close behind. “It’s been six months since we –“

“You” Rachel corrected, shacking her head.

“- broke up,” Anna finished lamely. “I just, I’m tired of how this whole thing is being dragged around…” Robert had decided to make the first and only statement of their year long relationship on his own, claiming to do it with her. She felt used, which she hated. Now that the media was all over the gossip, the paparazzi had been increasing by the days, taking away any privacy she had left. They had argued more in the last 6 months than during their whole relationship, as he claimed he had done it to help them both, subtly threatening to accept the many invitations he had for talk shows and well-known magazines. Lorena had tried to suggest putting a restraining order on him but Anna had forbidden it, knowing the press would throw a field day with it. There was also the NDA he had sign when he began his pursuit of her that should keep him from any smearing he had planned.

It was Rachel who had suggested leaving for Europe, making the paparazzi chase a bit harder. Anna had agreed quickly. She would miss the holidays at home but she didn’t mind, after her Nana’s death she usually would stay with friends or stay home alone. Her house at the outskirts of London could probably serve well as planning centre for the big events they had coming up and recording studio for the last tweaks they had to deliver after new year’s. She would get the isolation she craved from the gossip circus until the next scandal distracted them away from her.

Once they arrived to London, routine was easy to follow. She woke up, trained and meditated in the morning, leaving the afternoons for voice training, writing and recording. She mainly stayed home, which she appreciated. The little free time she had, she would spend it enjoying the big state she had bough some years back.

The plan had been for her to be mostly alone, perhaps Mikah who was in London would come by to try new sounds or practice old ones. Rachel was supposed to stay with Anna only for a week but at the end she had been forced to stay the whole holidays away from her childhood town due to weather conditions. It had been the only reason Anna had agreed to going out for New Year’s. She had no problem of welcoming the New Years at her sofa drinking champagne on her own, but Rachel had been blue about not being back home, trying her best not to show it. For Anna the sofa was enough but she didn’t want moppy Rachel looking at her Instagram all night wondering what her family and friends back home were up to.

“Mikah says it’s the party of the century!” Anna exaggerated as she tried to pull Rachel out of the sofa. “We’ll dress pretty, do our hairs, drink the good stuff…” Anna pulled again as Rachel giggled and leaned back to stop her from her work. “Maybe there will be a cute guy…” she continues grinning, wiggling her eyebrows in a suggestive matter. “And who knows where we might end up waking up!” She wiggles her eyebrows again, Rachel still sniggering away.

“But you were looking forward to staying home!” Rachel countered as she calmed her giggles pulling back with her whole weight, making Anna stumble.

“I want to go out now! I’m fleeting like that!” Anna continued batting her lashes. Rachel rolled her eyes, knowing Anna would say anything for her to agree, and let her self be pulled out of the couch.  Two hours later they were in the foyer waiting for Mikah to pick them up. Rachel had taken one of her short black dresses, silver details accentuating her waist, one of her own long coats stylishly covering her. Her blonde locks had been curled and ironed to a half do. “I heard there will be some ballet dancers,” eyebrow wiggling.

“Stop it!” Rachel scolded without any force. Anna had been chattering away while they were dressing, trying to hype the soiree. Maybe she had been honest with some, and there had been some little white lies along the way.  There would be a Cirque du Soleil performance. Truth.  There would be a presentation by the Rolling stones. False. Fireworks. True. Parachute arrivals. False.

Anna hadn’t really put much effort into choosing her own look, having more fun playing dress up with Rachel and selling her the night. An old dark blue dress, backless but with long tight sleeves, make up simple but always with red lips. She had left her hair down without bothering to style it much, golden earrings brightly shimmering through her dark locks. Rachel had been more worried, like always into Anna’s look than her own adding and taking off necklaces, bracelets, rings, blush, etc.

Mikah came to pick them up on time. Exiting with drama the car he had hired, whistling and cat calling loudly at them – luckily she had no neighbours within hearing range -, given them long kisses on the cheeks before helping them on the car. A fifteen-minute drive had them at the reception.    

Anna had been surprised for the chic décor and the way they had distributed the different areas. There had been clearly a separation between inside – the music much more animated and party like- and the gardens – instrumental music with people promenading in style- . With champagne glasses they had walked to the gardens, coats forgotten thanks to the warming devices smartly spread. There was a no phone nor camara policy, and even Mikah whispered he had seen distributed the cancelling machines that avoided unwanted photos or recordings.

She had seen familiar faces, even greeted a few – a couple of actors, a former dancer she had on tour, a duchess -. She noticed excited glances going her way as she was recognized by most, she tried brushing them away looking down. She knew it came with the job but sometimes she missed being able to lose herself in the crowd.

Music she liked had begun playing inside, the first rush of excitement finally reaching her. It could be a great night if she let herself enjoy the moment. She had been about to suggest going to the livelier zone of the party when Mikah interrupted her train of thought.    

“Martin!” Mikah cried, taking her attention from the dance floor as he pulled her in a different direction. She drank the last sip of her champagne glass when she saw the waiter nearby, dropping it over the tray. She was lucky she had swallowed the remains before she saw Martin and his crew. Rachel gave her a hurried pat on her bare back but before she could turn to her friend to see what it was about, it had been too late.   

She hadn’t expected him at all, Max Verstappen. He most certainly hadn’t expected her either, if his widened blue eyes were anything to go by. Both standing in front for the first time in so much time. She felt time stopped and suddenly came back with force as Mikah pushed her to Martin breaking her frozen state.

Mikah had hugged and back clapped at Martin enthusiastically, saying something that didn’t reach her gaining a loud laugh from the dutch DJ. Once his eyes settled on her she smiled, having met him before many times. She had met Max at one of his soirees, hadn’t she?  

“You remember Anna, oi?” Mikah asked Martin who nodded as excited as Mikah.

“Of course mate! It’s been some time though!” She pulled her extended hand into a quick hug. “VMAs last year right?” he asked with a hand casually on her bare back. She nodded, still short for words and it was now Martin’s time to introduce her to his companions.  “This is Lando Norris, F1’s king of terror,” Martin said dramatically.  

The boy – man between Max’s and Martin had taken her hand within both of his to shake it eagerly. “I’m Lando!” he had hushed beaming widely, impossible not to return with out of her own. “I’m a fan!” She felt strangely shy at the attention, her eyes like magnets finding Max’s staring at her with the same determination she remembered.  

“Thank you!” she had said fondly to Lando, who she thought had a personality easy to love, reminding her a bit of Daniel Ricciardo whom she hadn’t seen in some time. “That’s very sweet of you!”

“Stop hovering!” Martin scolded Lando who was very fixated into staring at her with awestruck eyes. “I think you’ve met before?” Martin dropped subtly as he pushed her softly in the dutch driver’s direction. There was no need to confirm what Martin already knew well.

 “Hi,” she had muttered in Max’s direction, a small tentative smile playing in her lips, eyes meeting. He had smiled, which had also been unexpected. Anna had entertained the idea that this time it would go as the last when he had avoided her at all costs at some award show he had gone with his new girlfriend. Max seemed to sense her hesitance.

“Fancy seeing you here,” he dropped also hesitating with half a smirk while taking the hand that had stayed mid drop from Lando’s. They were still as warm as she remembered, a bit more callused. The smile didn’t leave his lips and hers widened in result. A bit of miscommunication had her pulling him for a hug like Martin had done to her, while he shook his hand and hers, ending in yet another awkward hug that ended soon. It still left his cologne all over her and the feel of his warm hand on her bare back. Anna felt her cheeks warming up, his eyes not leaving her.

Hey! I'm so glad I was able to drag you into my addiction help! Here's some mods that I think are essential for my game that you might like too! (putting it under a read more for convienence to all those uninterested)

^Vicky has a ton of great mods but the ones that change traits, such as 100 base game traits and More CAS traits, plus Better CAS Randomization are literal game changers and I can no longer play without them

^Another great modder but especially for "My x" stuff, that stuff adds realism (like a better memory system) but also small visual details, like a blush when flirty or eyebags when exhausted. They're small details but I personally like it when my sim's eyes get teary when they're sad

^If you're planning on decorating your house at all (although you don't have to cause there are some gorgeous houses on mod sites and the gallery) this is a must. Idk why EA decided that mirrors can't be moved up and down but it's dumb move

^This one is great for adding more realism for weddings. It gives you options such as "Shop for ring" "Sign prenup" and "Shop for dresses". Now they don't really do anything (the mod will send your engaged sim and their partner off the lot for a while and they come back with a mood buff) but I think it adds a nice touch for story telling purposes and is probably the most fun part of planning a wedding

^LittleMsSam is another modder who is absolutely great, these are a bunch of her smaller mods,. There's a ton of them and not all of them might not be needed but I reccomend looking through them because there are some that are life changers (like famous sims gain followers automatically, which makes staying famous way easier)

^This is the most important mod on my list. I don't know if it bothers you as much as it bothers me but I hate it when I tell my sim to go to another room (whether to use the bathroom or check on their baby) and they pause to sniff the the air or to point out a mess, this mod basically makes it so that they do those things while still walking to save time. As much as I love all these mods, this one is probably the best

^This one is really good if you're planning on adding toddlers to your family because it gives you more items that can level up their skills (which can be really hard, esp without a wabbit tablet/their parents are busy)

^Me personally I prefer the method of moving NPCs into my house and then killing them when it comes to making money but if you prefer to make money the conventional way this mod adds more jobs your sims can do

It's all about the money, they say. So let's adress the money thing, shall we?

Not the problems (that's for another post) but some suggestions for paid features that might get some of that much needed cash flowing in... and more importantly, these are suggestions I think people would actually be willing to pay for and/or have talked about as something they'd like to see implemented into the sites. Do it right and people (who can afford it) will pay!

Buying potions

On sites that have the potion system it'd make sense to have the option to pay IRL money to buy the finished potions, no need to brew them yourself. You could still make them yourself using your heard earned IG resources (and potentially blow them up in a freak accident), but it's an option that saves you time and doesn't have the risk of failure involved. Not only will it be a source of income but it will also lead to more potions being used and showed off, inspiring other users to venture into potioneering (or paying IRL money, *cough, cough*) to get that sweet, sweet revenge that is best brewed hot. I'll tell you right now, if I got tricked into a potion that mirrored the whole site for me (please, never again), I'd be willing to spend a coin or two on returning the favour.

From one currency to another...

When you buy VIP you automatically get 500 golden coins, so why not offer an additional option of buying just the IG money? It's a bit cheaty but so is paying IRL money for an IG status, which previously had to be earned through winning competitions, and that's a thing now so we're fine with that, right? Right...?

Sponsorship badges

We've already got achievement badges that we can show off on our profiles, so why not add the option of sponsoring the sites and earning a fancy achievement badge to show the World what a financial hero you are? There's nothing to be gained from it except bragging rights, but if you really want to motivate people to spend some money you could also make a "thank you for sponsoring this site" list where sponsors can point out their name and proudly tell everyone that they have contributed in meaningful way. Set up a few different tiers ranging from micro-donations to big sums and see what happens!

Runaway pets

I've heard many stories of users who lost beloved site pets for reasons out of their control. Hospital stays, power shortages for days, unexpectedly busy work days - there are many reasons why someone wouldn't be able to log in and feed their pets, and more importantly wouldn't have known about it advance (or they'd put the pet in the kennel, duh). Being unexpectedly unable to log in for several days is sucky as it is, but to lose a site pet on top of that is just sad.

I know, it's just digifictional pets and they're not real and they don't have any value and bla, bla, bla... but sometimes people grow attached to their online pets, and some pets become symbolic of a memorable event or person. For some people there's emotional value and it hurts to lose that. It'd be nice to have the option to get them back, even if it'd cost a dollar or two.

Transferring specific opened cards between accounts

If you're one of the many users with multiple accounts struggling to finish that one collection, you probably know the frustration of getting the one card you're missing - but on the wrong account! Imagine having 3 Valentines (super rare card) on one account but only getting hundreds of Arabella Fig (super common card) on your second account where the only card you're missing is Valentine... that just sucks. Being able to trade cards isn't an option the way the system is built (no one would ever buy cards if you could just trade your way to completing collections and it'd no longer be that much of a rage challenge) but sometimes the wish to give away a specific card to help someone else (or your other self) is so strong you'd even be willing to pay IRL money to do it.

also, who the fudge cursed me to only get Arabella Fig and nothing else despite opening 1467 cards in one sitting?! curse you too, may your missing Valentine forever evade you and NO I AM NOT OVERREACTING

Commenters: which of these suggestions (if any) would you be willing to pay for?

NOTE: I am not a big fan of pay-to-win and pay-to-play but I do realise that in order for WoX to be free for all users there has to be money coming in from somewhere to cover the costs of running all these sites. Ideologists like myself may feel icky about it, but from a practical standpoint I realise it must exist in one form or another. The best I can do is to suggest the least icky but still strategically sound options.

It’s That Time Of Year Again, Christmas! The Most Magical Time Of The Year For All Pogues. Christmas Was Looking A Bit Different This Year. While They Didn’t Get The Treasure, They Did Have A New Friend & New Things To Treasure Instead.

Christmas was in a few days and all the Pogues wanted was to have a little get together later in the day after everyone else was done with their family celebrations. JJ was of course staying with John B so they were decorating with the few decorations they had.

John B: Okay well I hung up the lights last year so now it’s your turn.

JJ: What? I swear I did it last year! I still have the scar from when I fell off the ladder from doing it *he lifts his shirt*.

John B: That scar is from that motorcycle accident you had, and I know that because I was the one to patch it up, nice try buddy.

JJ pouted as he took his defeat and grabbed the Christmas lights to put on the roof. While he was doing that John B was putting some inflatable stuff outside as well.

John B: So uh question?

JJ: What is it?

John B: How are things with you and Kie?

JJ: As of right now things are fine. I texted her this morning and she’s really excited to spend Christmas with me this year.

John B: That’s so cute, look at all of us having someone to kiss under the mistletoe this year.

JJ: I’m just a little nervous though man.

John B: Why?

JJ: I don’t know what to get her, what if what I get her isn’t good enough?

John B: Dude just your presence brings the biggest smile on that girls face, I know you’ll think of something.

Before JJ could respond they saw Sarah pull up with more decorations.

Sarah: Merry almost Christmas my favorite boys!

She gets the decorations out the car and walks over to John B to give him a kiss.

John B: How’s my favorite girl?

Sarah: She’s great, just super excited for our first Christmas together.

John B: I am too.

JJ: Yeah this is too mushy for me, I’m gonna go into town and see what I can find for Kie. Sarah, has she given any hints on what she might want?

Sarah: No and I’ve been trying to get it out of her but she is keeping her lips sealed. Good luck though.

JJ sighs as he gets the keys to the Twinkie and makes his way to Kildare. He had no idea where he was going but he needed to figure something out. He had been saving some money for awhile and he is hoping it will be enough to give her some type of jewelry for her. He pulled up to the one place that sold the nice stuff and went inside…he immediately regretted that decision. Everything was automatically out of his price range and the worst part of all was that he saw this matching turtle jewelry earring and bracelet set that would’ve been perfect for her. Tears slowly formed into his eyes but then an idea formed into his head…it was worth a shot. He went up the counter and range the bell so he could have some assistance.

Duke: Hello, may I help you?

JJ: Yes you may, so is there anyway I can pay for this in monthly? Ya know instead of all at once?

This is my first Christmas ever having a boyfriend and I’m ecstatic about it! In the past whenever I gave the boys their gifts I always had to keep it even so it looked like I wasn’t playing favorites. My first year with them was a nightmare because even though the prices were the same, all they cared about was the sizes of the gifts which resulted in a literal brawl between the three of them. But this year we are all in relationships so the pressure is no more! The main thing I’m giving JJ is clothes, I never noticed this before but a majority of the clothes he wears are his old work uniforms and it broke my heart to see that he didn’t own much of anything. He deserves so much more and I plan on doing that. He made do with everything he had and still managed to look hot, now he’d be looking ten times hotter and just the thought of that drives me insane. I’m about to dress my baby up…

Christmas Day

That morning Kie woke up to a cute text from JJ.

Kie couldn’t help but blush and roll over onto her face to calm herself down…the things this boy did to her. She responded back to him and got ready for this special day. She took a shower and put on a bit of Christmas makeup, it was really just a few dashes of red on her eyes and lips but it did her good. When she went downstairs her parents were already up and ready for the day. They had finally gotten used to the fact that she was a Pogue and since then everything has been great.

Anna: Good morning baby, Merry Christmas!

Kiara: Merry Christmas mom! You too dad.

Mike: Merry Christmas my love. What are your plans today?

Kiara: I plan on being with you guys during the day and when nightfall hits and everyone else is done with their family activities, me and my friends are meeting up at John B’s house to open the gifts we got for each other.

Anna: Okay that sounds like a solid plan. How does it feel having a boyfriend this go round?

Kiara: Moooooom!

Anna: What? I don’t mean to pry but this is a cute and big deal for you, even if you aren’t showing it to us.

Kiara: Okay you’re right, it is. I’m very excited and all of my gifts are already at John B’s place.

Mike: What did you get him?

Kiara: You’ll see when he comes over tomorrow.

Anna: Well I’m sure it’s going to turn out great, now lets begin our day out.

Kiara smiled as she made her way into the car and off they went. They did some more shopping, had a nice lunch with their extended family and opened up the gifts around 5. Once 6 o’clock hit Kiara was off to John B’s house and when she got there she was welcomed with a bunch of Christmas lights which shocked her. Everyone was outside waiting for her.

Kiara: Okay, who turned into God and said let there be light?

Sarah: Guilty!

Kiara ran to give Sarah a hug.

Sarah: I found these extra lights at my place and figured they were needed more over here.

Kiara: And you were correct.

After she pulled away from Sarah the rest of the gang went up to hug her, JJ however was waiting for his individual turn. When her eyes landed on his she rushed into his arms and he spun her around.

Kiara: Merry Christmas babe!

JJ: Merry Christmas! How was your day?

Kiara: Amazing now that I’m in your arms.

Cleo: Well ain’t that cute.

John B: Enough with the mushy stuff, LETS OPEN OUR GIFTS!!!

Everyone started cheering as they went inside to John B’s slightly refurbished living room. He had a makeshift tree that was filled with presents under it. Kiara went to the tree and picked up all the gifts she had for JJ and his eyes went wide when they realized those were his.

JJ: Wait…are those mine?

Kiara: Yes! All ten boxes.

JJ: Kie, this is so much.

Kiara: And you deserve it all Jayj, now come on open them!

JJ gave her a smile as he opened each present one by one. When he saw they were new clothes he started tearing up.

JJ: There is no way you bought me five outfits.

Kiara: Yes way Jayj…do you like them?

JJ: Kie these are perfect, you really know my style.

He doesn’t say that with the enthusiasm Kie was hoping for.

Kiara: JJ what’s wrong? You don’t sound too excited.

JJ’s breath was shaking because he was so scared to admit what a shitty job he did with their first Christmas this year.

JJ: It’s just that you gave me all of this and all I have for you is this…

He reached under the tree and grabbed the only box that was left under the tree. He gave it to her and walked out before she could open it in front of him.

Kiara: Jayj wait-.

She turned her attention back to the present, it had been neatly wrapped and personally she wanted to save the wrapping paper so she opened it with ease. Inside of it was six hand drawn pictures of the two of them and they were in a glass frame. Kie couldn’t believe her eyes.

John B: So that’s what he was working on.

Kiara: What do you mean?

John B: A few days ago he came back from town pretty upset. Next thing I know he was holed up in his room and wasn’t leaving it at all, not even to eat. I went in there when he was sleeping and saw all this paper out on the floor but I never saw the finished product.

Next thing she knew she was crying and rushing outside to JJ. She found him sitting in the hammock, she put the pictures down at the base of the tree and thrashed her body on top of his and cried some more.

JJ: Kie I’m so sor-.

Kiara: JJ what are you apologizing for?

JJ: The gift it’s-.

Kiara: It’s the best thing I have ever received in my life!

JJ: There is no way that’s true.

Kiara got up to go and get the frame and then sat herself in JJ’s lap.

Kiara: JJ…all the time and effort you put in this is what makes this the best gift ever. I always knew you were artsy based off of your Poguelandia flag but this…is absolutely perfect. I’m hanging it in my room right above me…so the first thing I will be waking up to are the best memories of us. This one was from our first date and this one was during Valentine’s Day. And this was when we had that surfing contest that I totally beat you in.

JJ: Hey we claimed that was a tie.

Kiara gave him a little nudge in the head before giving him the longest kiss ever. She sat the frame down beside them so she could use both of her arms to wrap them around his head. His arms wrapped around her waist and went up her back. Even though it was near dark, Kiara could still see the blush on JJ’s face when they pulled apart.

Kiara: JJ I love you, this has been the best Christmas of my life. I hate I’ve missed out on so many amazing JJ gifts.

JJ: I wouldn’t say amazing.

Kiara: Well I will…in fact I’m gonna shout it to the world.

Kiara got off the hammock and starting spinning and shouting.

Kiara: JJ MAYBANK GIVES THE MOST AMAZING GIFTS EVER!!

JJ: HELL NAH THAT’S KIARA CARRERA’S TITLE!! SHE GIVE’S THE BEST GIFTS!!

Kiara runs up to him and gives him another kiss. JJ taps her waist and that was her signal to jump and she did, wrapping her legs around his waist as he carried her and the gift back inside. Everyone was looking at them funny when they got back into the living room.

Pope: Is everything okay?

Cleo: Yeah it sounded like bloody murder out there.

Kiara: Everything couldn’t be better you guys.

John B: Ohhhhhh JJ *he says in a singsong voice*!

JJ: What?

Sarah: Look upppp *she matches John B’s singsong voice*.

JJ and Kiara looked up and saw they were up under the mistletoe. Kiara looked at him and gave him kiss me eyes.

JJ: Y’all might want to look away, this is about to be the kiss of a lifetime.

JJ dipped Kie down and kissed her with so much passion, there was tongue and all! This cause everyone to get grossed out and go outside while they were still kissing. JJ slowly lifted Kiara up, never breaking apart their kiss and brought his hands behind her head to deepen the kiss. Kiara’s hands were all tangled up in his hair and shirt. She was so entranced in this kiss she sorta lost balance and fell back a bit breaking the kiss but JJ caught her.

JJ: Kiara Carrera?

Kiara: JJ Maybank?

JJ: I hope you know that the best gift I could ever ask for this Christmas is you right?

Kiara: The same goes for you JJ. Next year I just want a day of you and I’ll be the happiest girl alive.
