(disclaimer: these are MY opinions. this is in NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM meant to be DISRESPECTFUL or HATEFUL of other's opinions. i AM leaving out a VHS christmas carol as i have yet to see it)

13 -A Very Potter Senior Year

ok ok, i get it. it's part of the potter trilogy of starkid. something about it, however, just didn't make it stand out. it isn't at the bottom because i didn't like it, it's down here because i didn't like it AS MUCH as the others.

12 -A Very Potter Sequal

once again; a good fucking musical, just didn't stand out as much as others did to me.

11 - Ani

this musical was funny as hell and i'm always a sucker for shows that nick lang acts in. however, while i know that it's a parody plot, i never could be interested in star wars, no matter how hard i tried. while it was funny, and i found it to be interesting, i didn't laugh as hard as some people because i didn't understand some of the jokes made about the show. this musical is placed at 11th purely because i cannot physically or mentally bring myself to enjoy the star wars franchise.

10 -Firebringer

i love the characters, i love some of the jokes, i love some of the songs. that being said, i feel like this musical was one of the lesser entertaining of the starkid musicals. there were so many things going on that it was hard to understand everything. that being said, the SOLE reason i placed this one above Ani is the line "fuck no, zazz" being a response to zazzalil flirting with clark up at the keyboard.

9 -Twisted

the plot, characters, songs, and HOLY SHIT DYLAN SAUNDERS AS JA'FAR WAS NOT SOMETHING I KNEW THAT I NEEDED. the entire musical was SO GOOD. the only reason this musical is placed at 9th is because i HAVE to place my personal favorites higher.

8 -A Very Potter Musical

while i placed the other two of the potter trilogy at the bottom of the list, avpm is a strong 8th place here. joey richter as ron, lauren lopez as draco, and quirrelmort (along with the entirety of the rest of the show, these were just my favorite parts) all made this musical amazing. a timeless piece.

7 - Me and My Dick

mamd is an interesting one to rank. i didn't really know where to put it, but i stand firm that it's 7th here. the music, the characters, everything. it's a timeless piece that show the absolute talent starkid had even back at the beginning of the company.

6 -Trail To Oregon!

tto was one of my first introductions to starkid. it was definitely one of the most funny in my opinion. i think the song that placed it so high was 'Independence!' purely because of joey (shh no one can tell who my favorite starkid is, it's fine). once again, not placed higher only because my top five CANNOT be beat.

5 -Holy Musical, B@man!

this one is very similar to Ani. i had no clue of the plot, i'm not into the superhero shows. HOWEVER the characters and songs were more captivating, and i think it was funnier (still also a sucker for shows nick lang acts in)

4 -The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals

it was a difficult pick between this one and the next, but i had to place number 4 where it is. tgwdlm was my FIRST introduction to starkid. the music is great, jon matteson slayed (as he always does), ted made me love the spankoffski's before i knew who they were, and the whole show was amazing. once again, only not placed higher because my top 3 cannot be matched.

3 -Black Friday

HOLY SHIT. angela as lex, kendall as hannah and tim, dylan as tom, lauren as linda, JON AS WIGGLY WTF I LOVED THIS MUSICAL SO MUCH HOLY SHIT.

2 -Starship

this one may get me in hot water, but i'm not afraid of controversy if it means i get to be correct. NOT ONLY is JOEY the protagonist, he has kick ass songs, nick lang acts, joe walker as up, krayonder, JUNIOR. THIS MUSICAL IS TOP TIER AND I WILL FIGHT FOR THAT.

1 -Nerdy Prudes Must Die

you all know i had to do it. joey as peter spankoffski, mariah as stephanie lauter, ANGELA AS GRACE, THE SUMMONING WTF, will made the PERFECT max, the ENTIRE THING WAS SO GOOD WTF I LOVED ALL OF IT.

i just finished “what if it’s us” by adam silvera and becky albertalli and just wow. I didn’t know how much a craved a cringy romance until now. ITS SO GOOD HOLY SHIT?? it has a great sense of hope and realism with corny romance and amazing friendships. The bonds between the characters and friends is something that i desperately want and hope for others in life and jt have a great depiction of platonic and romantic love. The book overcomes the feelings of heartbreak and the feelings of overcoming a past relationship and listening to yourself when you need time to process. and from the other perspective it shows how hard and complicated a first relationship can be and that you can just be a huge mess and still find a way to work past your messes and try a do over and that relationships don’t work if one person isn’t trying to make it work. I keep ranting and ranting because i have no one who wants to listen to my thoughts on this book. I saw the most of myself in Bens character and the way he thinks is very similar to my own and i can’t wait to see more of him in the sequal. if you’re looking for a cringy cheese but still sad and sentimental romcom to get you thinking about love and relationships then this book is for you. But be prepared for the harry potter and broadway references because they are there and they are detailed, i understood them because i am an ex- fan of harry potter and i also love musical storytelling like broadway but it’s not for everyone so keep that in mind.

I've just started Tom Felton's autobiography beyond the wand. I'd been putting it off because thinking about Harry Potter tends to upset me nowadays because of the stuff with JK Rowling. But I really ran out of stuff to read and I thought I'd start it and it got me thinking a lot again.

I am no longer supporting JK Rowling monetarily but for me the lines are blurred on what is seen as support for her and what is engagement with a fandom that I love. Emma Watson writes in the introduction of the book that the core message of the potter books is friendship and I belive by extension acceptance. I have read so many analyses of everything wrong with the books, but despite that, the core message of friendship and kindness and acceptance and a need for systemic change is one I still value and there are characters I related to that I still love.

And I feel guilty about this, I know that the best thing to do in many peoples eyes is to let harry potter fade away and I do not want to be perceived as transphobic or a threat to others. But despite all this, I still care about harry potter and what happens to it in the future. It breaks my heart to see the fandom filled with people spouting transphobia and people who once felt safe now afraid. But I don't want the fandom to be left to these people because honestly at the end of the day I feel hurt that my special interest, something that has allowed me to make friends and to learn about myself and has offered me comfort throughout every significant moment of my life has been tainted by the person who created it and that this is hurting innocent people.

But then I listen to a very potter sequal and I hear Darren criss say hogwarts is bigger than us, it's bigger than any of its founders. And I wonder if there's people out there who are unsure like me what to do and who are trying their best to let go of something that means so much, who question why this is so difficult and whether it's even the right thing to do or whether there's a way forward that can support trans people and make the hp fandom a safe place again.

I want to support trans people, if you are following me and trans I hope you have read this far and that you understand how overwhelmed this all makes me feel and that this situation is something I take very seriously. I had to post about it because I want to be honest and because I think about it often.

I'm not tagging anything because I don't want this to get to people who don't want to hear about this, I just want to put it out somewhere.

Quirrelmort Fanfiction: The Only Person

For so many years Quirrell never felt like he was missing anything. Oh to hell with those sappy kisses in the rain he saw in movies. Couples holding hands in the street was gross! And whenever he would catch a glimpse of young, affectionate couples in the halls, he’d sneer...not envy. Not in the slightest.

And who gave half a damn if the wedding invites were piling up? They were strewn about random drawers to be forgotten.

Quirrell was so isolated for so long. The most action he got was one girl who, in his opinion, could’ve benefitted from longer pants, smiled and winked at him. He waved her off and sat there miffed. But if anyone asked, no, he was most certainly not wishing and hoping and praying for some attractive man to come and sweep him off to the dance floor.

His house was a mess because he didn’t care. No one was going to see it but him, he just accepted that as a fact.

But now, years later, here he stands in his garden, tending to his tulips. Thoughts of his past self fill his mind and he quietly chuckles. How in denial he was. “Not missing anything?” He muttered under his breath. “More like everything.” His habit of talking to himself was one that certainly hadn’t left.

“What was that, Squirrel?” Voldemort, his lover, called from the porch a few feet away. “Nothing, dear.” He responded. Voldemort walked up closer. Quirrell melted into his husband’s arms the second he felt them snake around his waist. “I was just reminiscing. How uptight I was in the romance department.” “You were uptight about everything, lovey.” Voldemort snickered lowly, pressing his lips gently to Quirrell’s jaw.

“I think that’s enough gardening for one day.” Quirrell hummed quietly. “You know, Squirrel, I’ve been meaning to ask you forever now, but why did love put you off so much?” Quirrell shifted around in Voldemort’s arms and embraced him back, brushing their lips together for a moment.

“I was jealous. I never put myself out there because it never felt right. As much as I denied it, I knew how much I was missing. But I felt like I was missing...someone. Someone specific. Then when we met, I felt such a strong pull to you. I could tell it wasn’t just because you were the Almighty Dark King or whatever. I knew it was something else...even on the brink of death, you were gorgeous.”

Voldemort laughed harder than he should’ve. “What?” Quirrell questioned. “I don’t think that’s a compliment, dear.” “Well you look better healthier! Oh shut up, I just mean that you look beautiful all the time. But that wasn’t what drew me in. It was that feeling.” “I think you’re the only person in the world who could see a shriveled up snake dude and think, ‘yep...I’m going to marry that.’”

Quirrell gave him another tiny kiss. “Well to be fair I’m also the only person who would let the most infamous dark wizard of this age become a parasite and live on my body for a year.” “You’re the only person who would do a lot of things.” Voldemort concluded, sighing as he was entranced by Quirrell’s deep brown eyes. “You’re stunning, I don’t know how some other lucky guy didn’t whisk you away before I did.”

Quirrell peered into Voldemort’s maroon eyes and was effected the exact same way. “You’re pretty okay yourself.” “Is okay good?” He dove in for yet another kiss, this one longer but still tender. “Wonderful.” “Wonderful indeed my Squirrel.”

A Very Potter Sequel

If I were to compile a list of all the things that i loved about AVPS, it could quite possibly go on for miles. After rewatching it, it quickly made its way up the list to my top three favorite Starkid musicals (nothing can beat out Starship and Firebringer). Everything about AVPS was better than what I remember it being: the soundtrack, the jokes, even the characters. I thought I couldn’t love Lauren’s Draco anymore than I did, but damn was I wrong. What I think I loved the most were the AVPM references sprinkled throughout it. It really tied them together. 10/10, maybe a little long, but worth it.
