✨️ Deleted Scenes ✨️

Sooo, in the 'Never Be Alone Again' fic, there were a few scenes that I liked a lot that ended up getting scrapped / deleted hjgfss. Made a couple doodles and a bit of writing for the deleted scenes!

This was one of the scenes that I mentioned that was giving me trouble! It was just after the final machine was completed and I was having trouble writing the chase sequence - I ended up going to Reddit threads for writing advice, and then scrapped the scene altogether.

Overall, it was breaking the pacing and believability to have Gigi grab Rodger here and THEN having him get up and run from Glisten. Given the speed of Glisten, he would not have had more than two seconds to try and run away before Glisten ended up pouncing on him, and I wanted the confrontation to be in view of the elevator and closer to when it closes. Plus it gave me a little bit of Chekov's Gun with Boxten!

So for this, it wasn't just one scene, but things I was trying to sprinkle in through the whole fic. I know I've mentioned before that I HC Rodger as emoting a lot more expressively in both his mannerisms and also in literal cartoon emotes, and then if he truly gets overwhelmed, he'll end up going mute and letting his natural physical expressiveness do the talking until his mind calms down (selectively mute Rodger HC :)). Truthfully I really wanted a scene where Glisten would get to basically monologue lol.

Unfortunately, whenever I kept rereading wherever this popped up, it just... wasn't working as much as I wanted to, and kept feeling unnecessary and pushed in. Eventually I scrapped the emotes and the idea of him getting overwhelmed in the epilogue, but I imagine Glisten would've tried to comfort him a little when he realised what was happening before the monologue started. Thankfully (or unfortunately given how you see it) he did actually get to have most of the dialogue in the epilogue, I just kept Rodger's dialogue short because of him LITERALLY *JUST* waking up from almost dying and trying to process everything.

“You can because you are STUCK here.” Glisten hisses out, leaning closely to Rodger again even as the other rears back. "You know, none of them came out of the elevator when you were stalled to help."

The mirror's eye has reddened again as he speaks, his tone somewhere between desperate and crazed.

"They just *stood there.* Watching and panicking as if they couldn't do a thing. The most they did was throw a *wrench* into me. Not even when you were five feet away being attacked by Boxten. They had a few seconds. They could have run out."

The way Glisten says that so vehemently, his fingertips digging into the couch cushion, is unsettling to hear. Rodger had honestly never heard him speak so bitterly about something.

"What are you implying he-"

"What I'm implying should be obvious, Detective."

Glisten gives Rodger a long look, almost as if looking through him at something else.

"They left you. They left us," Glisten whispers, "You- you said Vee didn't trust me, and- you know she can make some rash decisions, maybe- maybe she made them stay back because there was so little time left..."

A small, delirious giggle emits from the mirror, sending a chill up Rodger's spine as the detective's eye darts around for anything he could use to...

To do what?

I don't know.

You can't hurt him.

I know.

You can't outrun him.

I know.

So what would you do if he starts getting out of control again?

I don't know.

"And- and I don't *blame* her, not risking another Toon to save you, and it's- it's my fault that that decision had to happen in the first place, my fault, if you'd been a few seconds earlier, you'd-" ...

Aaaand there's some deleted / scrapped bits! Some bits could probably have been executed if it wasn't already so long and I knew how to fix them sounding boring or non-believable, but then there were some bits that just didn't fit with the character personas already established. It's a little of both.

I usually get hit with an idea after randomly thinking of dialogue (Most of the dialogue I use is something I make up, or it's from real-life conversations I've had. Mostly with my cousins and siblings lol)

I get random ideas throughout the day and keep a notebook and pen in my purse for inspiration. I like feeling pen on paper, so my notebook will have random cursive writing in multi-color pens with phrases like "Danny fought Killer Croc then fought Batman cause he thought he worked for Killer" and an arrow pointing to the dialogue I want. "Danny: I know a closet furry when I see one! Bruce: That's even worse then the time you accused me of stealing grandma's ashes. Dan: Our grandma's not dead? Bruce: You can see why the acussion stung so deeply then"

I then worked on the idea with random thoughts around 11 p.m by either starting it new or flipping through my notebook., as I am no longer awake at 3 a.m. (I'm too old. I get sleepy and have been trying to fix my sleeping schedule.)

Usually, this means fitting the dialogue in a scene I want to see happen- like Tucker being the main character. Ectoplasm not being Lazurius Water- or a "This would be hilarious."

I am a Fluff and Ship focus writer. I try to blend complex emotions, but I usually refer back to those two, so my works always end up more Cracked than anything.

The more serious plotlines I actually map out, after a while , I get a feel for it.

Other times I just raw dog the fic idea because I thought about it on the spot and just wanted to post it. Those are usually my one-shots

I really love your writing, could you share what is your process? Any tips for someone who is quite new at it? Has it always been so easy to write such long chapters?

I wish I could give you a clear process but my method of madness is probably something other folk go "OMG me too!!!!" Or "wtf are you doing?.?? Don't do that!"

Either way, all I can say is...

1. Write for yourself. Like, honestly, the support you gain and comment-folk who spur you on are honestly unsung hero's, but sit your ass down and write that tale for yourself. Idk why but if I think of pleasing others when writing my brain turns off so i'm all: don't like, don't read - fuck off.

[Then you find out people like what you like and wrote and suddenly those who are unknowingly encouraging you to write with their enthusiasm are e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g]

2. Word vomit - I think my chapters are long (but they dont feel long to me? Yet your not the first to say that to me haha) because I literally spew on a word doc everything that I've day dreamed or written briefly on my phones note app when something hit me, including alternative routes/plots or scenes. This means I have A LOT of things that don't get used or I think doesnt "fit right" for the focus and this probably is time wasteful and messy but it works for me because I got the ✨️Meat Grinder✨️ meets ✨️Shou Tucker Method. ✨️

[Note: all those scenes, dialogue lines, unused or ill-fitting things created from word vomit get shoved aside into a doc called the Meat Grinder aka they are there for other fics or later chapters. It is there they get minced up and, like a certain FMA bad daddy with a dog a kiddo, I'll splice them together into another chapter/fic aka The Shou Tucker Method.

3. Drip drip drip, embrace senses, and screw expectation - don't stress about feeding everyone information at once, give enough to set scenes or help readers see what that dorky fellow your wtiting about is doing or wearing, but everything else can be drip fed because life likes to lure us down alleyways as opposed to give us a intruction manual.

I think my chapters are long because I'm an oddball who gets a bit hyper focused on senses beyond sight - touch/texture, smell, taste - and even how your body responds to certain things. Then again I'm a sensory weirdo who spends too much time in my head and makes Anakin Skywalker's hatred of sand look mild. I get this can be overkill though? So... eh.

Thats why you screw expectation. Write with your voice (or get into the charscters dummy head), format how you wish (unless you want feedback and someone goes wtf this formatting is killing me mate stahhhhp!) And let yourself allow others to be immersed into the rambles you create.

I wrote some more of The Decision ™️ (chose Minrathous or Treviso) scene after putting it off (idk why but I don't like the dialogue from the game, and how it doesn't really fit (except some of Lucanis' lines) with what I have established previously in the fic) but I'm slowly getting back into it again!

That being said, here's what I've cooked this morning (and some at the beginning from before):

They don't make it very far off the dock before Rook hears the familiar sound of Neve's metal leg clinking upon the rough terrain of the crossroads.

Rook looks up at the sound and sees both her and Lucanis. Both of them tense in stature and clear panic spreading throughout their bodies.

"Rook!" Neve shouts, securely grabbing his attention.

"What's wrong?" Rook now starts to panic. His breathing grew faster.

"A lot. The Viper just sent word. Minrathous is under attack by a blighted dragon." The sheer amount of emotions she was experiencing in such a short time caused her voice to waver. A furrow creasing between her brows from underneath her veil.

"It has to be the one we saw at D'Meta's Crossing." Velasco said, looking at Bellara as she came to a stop behind Neve and Lucanis.

"Well, one of them has to be. At least." Bellara added, catching her breath from her attempt at catching up with them.

"What do you mean, 'one of them'?" Davrin cut in from behind Rook, his eyebrows arched in surprise. Assan had returned to his side, hiding behind his legs like a curious cat.

"Teia got in touch, too. Another dragon is attacking Treviso as well."  The pain at the thought alone of his home being attacked by a dragon of all things, and a blighted one at that, was seeping through his words like squeezing water from a sponge.

"Fuck." Velasco muttered under his breath.

"You got back just in time, Rook." Bellara said, a worrisome look in her brown eyes.

Rook's mind was working overtime, the looming stress of this situation weighing his thoughts down. "This can't be a coincidence. Two dragons, at once? Were there any mentions about the gods? Anything?"

"Not much, unfortunately. Sorry Rook. All we know for certain is that the dragons are involved." Bellara helpfully answers his questions, "And if it's anything like before, when the gods were nearby. They would surely be here as well."

"Velasco. You know Treviso as much as I do. It has no defences. If we don't stop that dragon, people will die. Innocent people. Our people." Lucanis pleads, stepping forwards, closer to Velasco but still far enough away that they weren't touching, "If they don't die from that dragon then they'll only die a slow death from the Blight in the water." He crossed the self-imposed line he'd formed between them, now standing closer to Velasco than he had been in days, holding his gaze with an ever saddening look. Those big brown eyes staring deeply into Velasco's own. He pleaded with him as if there was a possibility that he wouldn't choose to save their home. "We have to go to Treviso."

"What? And leave Minrathous to burn?" Neve asks, anger bubbling behind her words.

Lucanis breaks his hold on Velasco's eyes, turning his body to look at Neve with a guilty look, "Neve..."

"We're the only ones keeping the Venatori in check. And if we fail? The Venatori will take advantage of the destruction and push for the throne. And no doubt, hand the gods the entire Tevinter Empire." Her emotions were getting the better of her, the stress of possibility that her home could be taken over by a seemingly unstoppable force only fueling her anger more.

Rook goes to open his mouth, to say anything to her that might calm her down or at least lessen the tension between her brows, but Neve was having none of it. The stubbornness of this mage was unwavering, "Damn it! We don't have time for this. I need to be in Minrathous." So she storms off in the direction of the Dock Town Eluvian.

I re-read Spirit in Disguise by @witch-and-her-witcher the other day, and it's another one of those "huh I wish someone would write this AU, OH LOOK SOMEONE DID" fics because damn do I love anything where Feyre meets Rhys before he's High Lord, and all the worldbuilding and the way the plot just dovetails to seamlessly with the main Nessian fic it branches off from are so, so good

Hot for Teacher by @beesays goes SO HARD on the school setting, it's just delightful. The emails, the gossip, Feyre handing Superintendent Rhys his ass in front of everyone, it's like Abbott Elementary but better and also Feysand

My answer to your question is:

Honestly, I think that for me, coming up with those ten goals for my hobby of fanfic writing was harder than the part about it happening in the next five years 😅

My ten goals (in no particular order except for the first one)

1. Finish my two ongoing fanfics. (Hopefully, I can achieve this by the end of this year)

2. Write at least half of the ideas that I have for fanfics into full stories. (I currently have 20+ ideas, and I know that number will get bigger as time goes by)

3. Finish writing a fanfic either fully or at least halfway before I post the first chapter.

4. Get better at writing scenes that are out of my comfort zone (18+ scenes, sad scenes, fighting scenes, etc.)

5. Write for at least thirty minutes to an hour every day (or longer depending on how much time I will have throughout the day)

6. Have people submit ideas that they would like me to write for them. (I would like to try it)

7. Write down any ideas that I might have for either ongoing fanfics or future ones so I don't forget them. (Either on a piece of paper, into my phone, or voice record it)

8. Have at least somewhat of an idea for a plot that will happen in the fanfic before I start working on it so I don't get stuck. (Or start rewriting the fic from the start when I'm already halfway through)

9. Keep track of what plot points I want to have in my fanfics and write them down into a list, so the story doesn't end up all messy.

10. Have a posting schedule from Monday to Sunday for my fanfics, so whoever reads them knows on what day the next chapter will be posted. But it also helps me to stay organised and not get overwhelmed while posting. (There won't be a fanfic for every day of the week all the time, obviously. It will depend on how many fanfics I'm posting at the time)

I don't know if those goals actually fit what you have asked me, but it was really interesting to think about and come up with them nonetheless.

Noncon vs. Dubcon and the importance of consent

Warnings: Liz isn't sugar coating language; discussions of consent; discussions of SA

With Villain Week being announced, we have received a lot of questions regarding our rule about not reblogging fics involving graphic SA. All three of us understand how yummy taboo dark smut is to read and write, but there are limitations to what is acceptable. I wanted to take some time to address noncon and dubcon fanfiction and consent with you all to hopefully clear the air a bit.

Noncon and Dubcon are both very real-world situations that have been modified to fit into our world of fanfiction, and it is important to acknowledge something really quick. In the real world, both of these are forms of sexual assault. Questionable consent is not consent, and coerced consent is not consent. Consent is an enthusiastic yes. Sex without an excited yes throughout is considered SA or rape in the real world. These same rules do not apply to fanfiction, though.

Noncon is short for nonconsensual, meaning it is clear there is no consent from one party involved, sometimes both depending on content or context, even in fanfiction. To put it bluntly, a noncon fic is essentially writing a rape scene. It is not arguably SA; it is blatant SA. Even with proper warnings, tags, and labels, this type of content is extremely triggering for survivors of sexual-based attacks, both male and female. In these fics, there is a clear victim, and the victim knows and acknowledges that they are a victim.

We are all probably aware of fics that somehow gained popularity involving this style of writing, and we are all probably aware of the fallout. We, as writers who are working to create a safe place for our followers, mutuals, and anonymous strangers lurking in dark corners, cannot allow this type of content to be reblogged in this event. If this is the type of content you are wanting to write, as kindly as possible, ✨️no✨️. I, Liz, will not allow this type of content to be reblogged.

Dubcon would be the other category of dark smut. Dubcon is short for Dubious Consent. Dubcon fics may have questionable consent methods, but it is clear the characters involved are enjoying them. Dubcon, when properly tagged as such, allows the reader to know that consent may seem questionable, but it is there, and it will be written to show both characters enjoying the interaction. Dubcon, too, does not have what we would call a victim. The “victim” is not perceiving themselves as a victim. They are enjoying and wanting the sex act.

Dubcon fics are far more popular than you may think: seduction, sex potions, magic, pollen, and bargain-based sex.

I'm sure we have all read a sex pollen fic where unaffected character x says to affected character z, “I don't want to take advantage of you,” then they have mind-blowing sex that's so good the sex pollen just magically leaves their system. That's a form of dubcon due to the fact that it can be written between two characters who may not have hooked up without the influence of the pollen. In seduction, character A typically chases and woos character B restlessly. Seduction can be written with 100% enthusiastic consent or a dubcon stand point. In dubcon, it typically starts with character B “caving” and then enjoying sex with character A. This is considered Dubcon in fanfiction. In bargain dubcon, one character offers the other a reason to sleep with them (protection, money, food, a job).  These types typically have other fun power dynamics at play, but we still see in these fics both characters enjoying sex with each other. These are the types of dark smut fics we will reblog. Yes, it is a little bit questionable, but enjoyment is clear on both ends.

I also want to talk to you all about an age-old concept: hate fucking.

Have you ever disliked someone so much that you wanted to have sex with them to feel a bit of power and control over them? That's hate-fucking. It's consensual, it's fun, it's hot, and the best part is that your characters can go back to hating each other afterwards and even throw it into each other's faces that this happened. You get to write your smut scene while honoring—let's say Beron and Helion's tense hatred and complex relationship, or a delicious moment where Rhys snaps and gets off on how he is capable of bringing Amarantha over the edge to give himself a feeling of power. Sex won't change how these characters feel about each other, but you get to touch that hatred dynamic while writing something everyone will actually get to enjoy, and we will reblog.

In summary, the biggest thing we want to see is consent, even if it's in a questionable dubcon fashion. This is fanfiction, yes, but for survivors of violent crimes, the distinction between dubcon and noncon is very important. Use this as a chance to play with the characters a bit, play with an intense hate-fucking scene, and play with the villain playing the long game and getting the hero to say yes. There are ways to write smut this week that still show consent. That’s all we are asking for.

Ekko's Moving Treehouse!

blatantly inspired by @redrum-alice's FANTASTIC artwork and developed in collaboration with @lullabyes22-blog, because I've been fawning over the art since it was posted and I just knew there had to be a way this could work because it was so cute and the potential just jumped off the page for me

(you've probably seen it but go look at it if you haven't it's so good)

me and Lullabyes have both read the book and seen the movie, so we combined a lot of ideas from both versions, and this is the result so far:

so Silco is the Witch of the Waste lol

Jinx's curse turns her eyes pink (and they stay that way, like Sophie's hair turning white!)

our girl is on a journey of ✨self-discovery✨ and to find her family. Silco does not understand why and just wants her to come home for dinner lol

instead of happening upon Ekko, Jinx goes looking for him because she heard there's a wizard wandering around who helps people

Ekko's castle is a treehouse, and the roots walk!

Jinx: "What a stupid way to treat a tree!" DX (a book line lol)

Jinx keeps arguing with the curse and it weirds Ekko out but she's just arguing with Silco lol

Ekko is a big grump because he gave his heart away to protect it after so much loss 😭

Jinx does not clean his house. she just redecorates. she draws on everything, including the Wall of the Fallen, and Ekko is thisssss close to strangling her at all times but he's promised to help

Jinx: "Ya gotta inject some levity into this narrative!" /casually breaks 4th wall

Silco's henchpeople keep showing up and Ekko fights them off but they're just trying to get Jinx to come back for dinner

Silco: "Discover? What are you discovering? Gold? Dinner's getting cold!"

at some point Jinx will have to cut up Ekko's clothes mwahaha

Ekko has the Slime Meltdown™ because Jinx breaks his hoverboard and he needs to be airborne and free or else there's no point in living

Heimerdinger is Madame Sullivan/Suliman, Ekko's old magic teacher who tells Jinx she's a witch like in the book 🪄

he even has the intro that makes him appear all spooky at first before his furball nature is revealed

maybe instead of giving life to things she animates machines???

they have a cute breakfast scene in Ekko's treehouse where Jinx eats real fruit the first time

Vi leaves a flare lit for Jinx all this time, and Ekko helps her find it

we didn't discuss this, but I think it would be interesting if Vi was Turnip Head, trying to communicate through Jinx throughout the story and maybe pushing her into situations that she doesn't really want (which has to do with how we're imagining the ending; Vander could also be Warwick instead and serve the same purpose???? wait I'm cooking here)

I also want Ajuna to be Michael/Markl lol

the end of the story sees Jinx decide to be true to herself; even though she knows that Silco and Vi both love her, she's gotta do her own thing

despite being super annoying lol she helps Ekko live in the moment and get his heart back, and they fall for each other and it's mushy as hell okay

"She's like very decorative lichen growing on his tree and he can't get rid of her, so by the story's end she's just become part of the natural treescape."

and at the end they keep traveling in the treehouse to see the world and help people and so Jinx can come into her witch powers

probably would be easy to insert all the war themes

Jinx coming into her own and being cute, Ekko learning to love again after this woman just barges into his life, family themes, romance, what more could we want???

It's another shriek that startles him from his stupor. 

“Shit,” he whispers, wobbly legs finally kicking into motion. “Shit, shit, shit, Eddie, wait!” 

There's no reply. He's probably well out of earshot already. 

Steve groans and takes off running in pursuit, but he hardly makes it a few yards before his brain kicks in. He may be a decent runner, but Eddie is on horseback, and he’s got a head start. There’s no way he’ll catch up with him on foot. 

“Shit,” he swears again, whirling back around and dashing back into the clearing. Aura watches him approach with big brown eyes, ears flicking about nervously, like she’s wondering what’s going on. “Okay, I’m literally so sorry, I know I’m an idiot, but please work with me?” 

And he knows his experiences with horses are slim, but he decides then and there that she must be the best fucking horse in the entire world, in both this time and all the times to come, because she doesn’t so much as flinch as he clumsily scrambles his way into the saddle. 

“Thank you,” Steve breathes, once he’s finally seated and halfway confident he won’t topple right off again. “I owe you big time. Now, let’s hurry and get ba- whoa!” 

She doesn’t even wait for him to finish the sentence or grab the reins, just takes off the way Eddie went, hooves crushing twigs and dry leaves underneath as she goes. And that’s how Steve’s second horseback right passes in a blur of speed and movement, with him clinging on for dear life, praying she’ll at least notice and stop to wait for him when he falls.

So @literali1110 pointed out to me that there were footage from Lucy's camera after the fall, so doesn't look like this is the route they'll go 😂

I do keep circling back on how hesitant Angela and Nyla looked when Lucy made her suggestion, and it makes me wonder if they may end up questioning whether protocol was followed or something instead? Or maybe Lucy will simply struggle with her own feelings of guilt around ending up in that situation because she was trying to prove herself?

I am glad that there's not really any ambiguity about whether she had to take the shot and whether the guy was 100% guilty, because I think it would destroy Lucy if those things were in question.

I'm definitely feeling some angsty inspiration from Lucy's struggle this season; jury's still out on whether it ever becomes anything more than random sentences in my notes app.

Regardless, I'm gonna hijack this ask to ramble a little bit on why I'm actually okay with the choices they've made and the story they are telling for Lucy this season so far. Like a lot of people, I hate seeing Lucy going through a hard time and of course I want to see her be supported. Give me the scene with Tim in the hospital a million times over; I'll never get tired of seeing that she is valued and loved by the people in her life. We honestly haven't gotten enough of that for literal years.

We've seen Lucy go through so much. But in five+ seasons, we've barely seen Lucy be anything other than her sunshine-y self for more than a handful of scenes. Even more so in the last few seasons. It is beyond time the writers take the time to give her character more depth and emotional range. It is beyond time they turn her back into a character that is deeply empathetic and relatable to the audience.

It has sucked seeing more and more commentary on social media the last few seasons about Lucy being childish, silly, unprofessional, and even manipulative 😭. And I think that's a direct result of the lack of care and intention the writers have put into writing her character since she graduated the FTO program. She's been used as little more than comic relief and a plot device outside of the ship for way too long.

While other characters have progressed professionally, Lucy has remained mostly stagnant since she graduated the FTO program, beyond a few UC missions that all pretty much ended the same way without doing anything progressive for her character (why didn't we see her struggle with the ethics of UC work when it came to using Aaron's puppy? why haven't they helped us understand how she reconciles her love for UC work to her empathetic nature and the reason she became a cop?).

I think of Lucy's journey in comparison to Tim's -- we've seen him go through awful things. We've seen him suffer. We've seen him struggle. We've seen him evolve and grow.

With Lucy, we've mostly just seen her go through awful things and move on as if nothing has changed. We all have our head canons, I think, about grief and coping and what's going on under the surface, but we don't actually know what she's feeling 99% of the time.

Do I wish they would have taken the opportunity to explore the impact on her character in the aftermath of DOD or after Jackson died? Of course I do. I would have preferred that to having to see her struggle professionally in the shadow of Nolan getting handed success for simply existing. (And if I thought they intended the juxtaposition, I'd give them credit for telling a realistic story, but I seriously doubt it 😂).

But I'm still glad they are taking the time to tell a story for her now. And I'm glad they seem to be doing it with intention.
