#the idea that the ones who claim the credit of the rebellion and the people who fought it having to live with its consequences #coin becoming president while sacrificing her own people and painting herself as the hero #and katniss recognizing the cycle of power is starting agaim before her eyes #so she ends it herself #a rebellion of her own making #the first choice shes had the complete freedom to make on her own #all others being choices of circumstance #her volunteering as tribute #her and peetas fake love story #her fighting the rebellion #this is the first decision shes made COMPLETELY of her own volition without any consequences that choose for her #she chose to end it before it even started #because she couldnt stand to let herself become coins symbol #she was not a symbol #she is capable of making her own decisions #and snow after the ballad of song and snake laughing at it all #probably outstanded that someone was bold enough to choose that choice #laughing because she had figured it all out #figured out what kept men like him in power #and she ended it #and he was amazed #and he died choking on his own blood because in the end he was still is own undoing #because all the power in the world cannot save you from death #a pitiful and lonely death

on one hand I totally understand tropes are popular but on the other hand I think Amos is a lot more compelling as a middle aged woman trying to figure out her life after a loveless relationship than a mother figure ya know

the 2099 timeline is wonky as hell (without even talking about retcons), but there's something very interesting to me abt the implication that Miguel torpedoing his relationship with Xina and Gabriel feasibly coincides w George and Conchata's divorce (plus her subsequent institutionalisation).

#coupled w the catalyst of xina meeting her parents and miguel bailing from that trip (and the implied seriousness that kind of meetup would #have for their relationship imo)#ALSO the very interesting implication that george's death may have happened almost instantly prior to the begining of 2099 #and what connections we can draw between that and miguel's own rebellion against Stone (even before being spidered)#all of this is based on Dana's line that she first met George just after the divorce and considering her relation to Gabriel I just think i #makes the most sense for him to have not met her before if these events happened in quick succession #while Miguel has no love for George - his comment about the 'type' of women Miguel seemed to date (as a teenager is the implication) implie #he at least would know about those relationships? even if they werent serious and he didnt really care #i mean. all of this gets complicated by retcons and other wonky timeline implications but idk #this idea is very interesting to me #there was plausibly a lot of background destabalisation happening in miguel's life even with just #his own agency when it came to nuking those relationships #tunes talks 2099

#rat rambles #oc posting #warriors posting #spiraling upwards #long story short they had a shitty awful terrible leader who sucked absolutely ass and they tore him to shreds #I mean that literally they pinned him onto the mountain side and slashed and mauled the shit out of him so hard that his lives evaporated #and several of the cats involved in that scene are sill alive and major parts of the story and I love them #oh also the cat that pinned him through a stab through the throat was his own daughter btw everyone hated his ass so much #and for good reason get his ass #alas in the main story I dont rly get to go too deep into how he harmed everyone involved mostly just three main ones #aka bristlestar because shes murtlepaw's ghost mom dawncrackle because hes also haunting murtle and gullspot because shes bristle's kit #so basically all the flashbacks we get involve those three in some form or another #honeystar was also there and involved but Im not currently planning on having her rly talk abt that #most of her more modern angst is the fact that she was forced into leadership against her will #and shes been alive long enough that shes been leading birchclan far longer than she ever lived in her old clan #but she did go through a lot of shit before birchclan was founded and it definitely shaped her a lot #she used to be a very determined and high spirited lil kitty cat who tried to be optimistic #but her family began to slowly be picked off one by one by both the old leader and the one whod later get evicerated #some of the older cats around her hoped it make her back down from her revelutionary ideas but she noticed that and it backfired on them #instead of being worn down to submission she became absolutely Furious and began to lash out more and become more demanding #it got to the point that she really only had two friends in the entire clan and one of them was her aunt whod later also die after coming #out abt having witnessed the leader killing his own kits #that was the final fucking straw for her and she was fully on board when bristle and dawn started looking for cats to join their rebellion #she did get rly frustrated with them as they waited patiently for the right moment but her remaining bestie kept her from going apeshit #so once the big fight finally broke out she was more than eager to join the hoard of cats chasing the bastard upwards #now unlike some of the other cats involved this legitimately actually made her feel a lot better for a while #for the first time in ages she finally felt like she could be optimistic abt smth again and was excited abt the idea of leaving this place #she had lost so much in this damn place since she was an apprentice and just wanted to finally be able to rest easy #but once they got to their new territory and set up camp things went south real fast as a flood fucked everything up #and after losing the only cat she had left in her life and losing her tail and being made deputy on top of that she deteriorated quickly

not to expound upon the political implications of fandom every chance i get but noel gruber is revolutionary gay representation because he wants to be fucked up and evil and it is so disheartening to see transformative works where they act like his wants and personality are character flaws. roadblocks in the way of the most conventional and milquetoast gay romance story ever put to word document. which isn’t terrible but the fact of the matter is noel gruber exists to say not every gay person wants to be normal or wants to have a normal easy heteroimitative life. marlene dietrich was a bisexual woman who endured mountains of hardship on every level and did important things and made important art. jean genet was a writer and activist who lived on the fringes of society doing survival sex work for most of his youth. liberace was never *out* out and was torn apart relentlessly by tabloids about his life. these are the people he canonically admires, he wants to be a starving artist and live a fantastic, queer, risky life that offends and challenges the mainstream. not because he is too naive to want a normal quiet life, but because he was raised in the bosom of the most banal, sterile, conservative small town existence he could have possibly been in and knows for a fact he wants the complete opposite. queer assimilation to the heteronormative standards of life has been a powerful tool in our survival, yes, but the point of that is to survive to make a world where that isn’t necessary anymore. the ease straight white cis abled society offers is one that exists at the expense of those who do not fit it. that is why the girl is fucked up. in a perfect world she shouldn’t have to be any other way.

#idk I just started reading a massively hyped transformative work in the fandom and jfc #it doesn’t hurt anybody and I know why it’s there #but dear lord #the amount of times they go out of their way to either implicitly or explicitly #punish or contort the aspects of Noel that make him fucked up #it’s just interesting #esp because they also make him trans which is why I’m reserving judgement #obviously they’ve done some of the work bc they’re not being weird about his gender expression #but OOOF you’re so close come on come on you can do it #also my other favorite character is constance and I can talk about black joy and radical acceptance with her for hours #but understanding what is oppressive about small conservative hegemony is crucial to understanding noel #and tbh thats his flaw to overcome by the end of the show imo #going from take me up and away above this small town cliche #to befriending mischa and sharing Constance’s joy during sugar cloud #realizing he did challenge people and was tragic and counter culture in his own way #in his own silly little small town #that’s the mountain he scales #to stop reducing his own accomplishments #but that has nothing to do with changing the fact that he doesn’t want to be like everyone else #and would have taken his queer rebellion further if he could have #ride the cyclone

i more or less accept 1795 arc as 'true' or at least truer than the recorded family history / barnabas' stories about josette (a recall rotted not only by his romanticizing but also by a stasis of 200 years), but interesting to think about it as told to us through the lens of a girl who's not present for most major events, never mind destabilized by shock, and loneliness, and grappling with finding herself in another time.

#ds liveblogging.#it may be a truer story but it's far from abject history imo.#often. very often i think about how angelique begins as a very sympathetic villain (a west indies indentured servant #working unknowingly for her own plantation-owning father.)#good enough to fuck but not good enough to be wed by the upper class that has profited from war and rebellion.#but they gradually move away from the Very understandable want / hatred / scorning of barnabas and his misdeeds to make her #a face of the Devil / of uncomplicated Evil. who seems to want to just cause chaos more than anything and only eventually target barnabas.#how even in the storytelling she becomes less a woman than a Thing and a Creature over time
