first review and "a pediatra" (the pediatrician) by andrea del fuego

hi, i'm ella! my name's not actually ella. i'm exited to finally start writing reviews here as an incentive to read more. the first book i'm reviewing (and the second i've read this year) is called "a pediatra" (the pediatrician) by andrea del fuego. "a pediatra" is written in portuguese, my mother tongue, and has about 180 pages (181, to be exact). the book talks about a female pediatrician called cecília that hates children, but, in my view, also hates women. she comes from a family of doctors, as her father is also a pediatrician, which is possibly why she took this career path and has no care for it.

cecília is getting divorced at the beginning of the book and soon after she gets on with a married man that is the father of one of the pregnant women she is looking after. apart from the obvious lack of integrity, cecília also uses the authority and power she holds as a medical professional to punish other women, especially the wife of the man she is seeing, given that she stitches her vagina up more than needed when she assists the birth of her child.

don't get me wrong, the book was sold to me by a tiktok video (i knowww, terrible idea) as a piece of literature with irregular protagonists, i knew what i was getting into. and don't get me wrong part 2: i'm not above villains as protagonists, not at all! but i am above badly written plots that are made just to be different from what is usually written. cecília is a complicated character (though, is she really?) that has terribles thoughts and actions, but sometimes gets the reader agreeing with her. she hates the natural birth and women focused birth movement, or whatever it is called, at a point that she stalks another pediatrician that took her place of favoritism from the mothers and other doctors. it is not to say that the book and the author agree with the kind of things the protagonist does. obviously not. it just has no purpose nor is it written in an interesting way.

the protagonist, though, shockingly, falls in love (platonic love, okay!!!) with the child that she helped give birth (you know, the one whose father she's sleeping with and whose mother she stitched up) and by the end - SPOILERS AHEAD - she basically kidnaps and takes him to another city. an ending that was predictable since the beginning.

the writing of this book is simple, has almost no dialogue and the storytelling holds no attention to the point of questioning myself what was the writter's intention. what did she mean to pass foward? my thoughts are that she just wanted to write a shocking character and focused on nothing else. is it worth it to sacrifice an entire book of meaningless stories just to shock?

as i read back what i just wrote, i am hating myself a little bit. it seems like i am above reading just for fun and entertainment. that is not the case at all. i just didn't enjoy the book, but seemingly other people did, as i came to know of it as an indication.

which brings me to another point i wanted to discuss. my friend and i have an habit of telling each other about the terrible books we read (she does it more than me, because she reads way more), and i was telling her all about this one. by the end of it she agreed that the book seemed terrible and was taken aback by the good reviews it got on good reads and other websites. we went on about how, as it was indicated to me by a tiktok video, these content creators most likely talk about these bunch of books just to - dramatic pause - create content, as is their job. which is interesting and will make me think twice about taking an indication from one of those videos again.

i gave this book 2 stars because, after all, it kind of did entertain me. the protagonist was something i have never read before and i guess the writer achieved her goal with that.

this was the 2nd book of my 12 book goal for this year. i hope to read more, wish me luck! :)

Alergie u dzieci w ostatnich latach – przyczyny, objawy i sposoby leczenia.

W ostatnich latach liczba dzieci cierpiących na różnego rodzaju alergie znacząco wzrosła. Szacuje się, że nawet co czwarte dziecko zmaga się z problemami alergicznymi, a ich spektrum jest coraz szersze – od alergii pokarmowych, przez wziewne, aż po skórne. Dlaczego alergie u dzieci stają się coraz bardziej powszechne, jakie są ich najczęstsze objawy i jak można skutecznie im zapobiegać oraz leczyć?

Przyczyny wzrostu alergii u dzieci

Specjaliści wskazują na kilka kluczowych czynników, które mogą wpływać na rosnącą liczbę przypadków alergii u dzieci. Jednym z głównych jest tzw. hipoteza higieniczna, zgodnie z którą współczesne warunki życia są zbyt sterylne, przez co układ odpornościowy dziecka nie ma okazji do naturalnej ekspozycji na drobnoustroje. W rezultacie może on błędnie reagować na niegroźne substancje, takie jak pyłki, sierść zwierząt czy pokarmy.

Innym czynnikiem jest zanieczyszczenie środowiska – smog, spaliny i toksyny obecne w powietrzu mogą zwiększać ryzyko rozwoju alergii wziewnych. Nie bez znaczenia są także czynniki genetyczne – jeśli rodzice dziecka mają skłonność do alergii, istnieje duże prawdopodobieństwo, że dziecko równie�� będzie się z nimi zmagać.

Najczęstsze rodzaje alergii u dzieci

Wśród najczęściej występujących alergii u dzieci można wyróżnić:

Alergie pokarmowe – najczęściej na mleko krowie, jaja, orzechy, soję, gluten czy owoce morza. Mogą powodować dolegliwości ze strony układu pokarmowego (bóle brzucha, biegunki), a także wysypki i objawy oddechowe.

Alergie wziewne – wywoływane przez pyłki roślin, roztocza kurzu domowego, pleśń czy sierść zwierząt. Objawiają się katarem siennym, kaszlem, świszczącym oddechem i nawracającymi infekcjami dróg oddechowych.

Alergie skórne – najczęściej kontaktowe, np. na detergenty, kosmetyki czy metale. Występują pod postacią egzemy, pokrzywki czy atopowego zapalenia skóry (AZS).

Alergie na leki i ukąszenia owadów – reakcje na antybiotyki, leki przeciwbólowe lub jady owadów mogą prowadzić do poważnych konsekwencji, takich jak wstrząs anafilaktyczny.

Objawy alergii, na które warto zwrócić uwagę

Objawy alergii mogą być bardzo różnorodne i często są mylone z innymi schorzeniami. Do najczęstszych symptomów należą:

nawracający katar, kichanie, swędzenie nosa,

przewlekły kaszel, świszczący oddech, duszności,

bóle brzucha, wzdęcia, biegunki,

swędząca wysypka, sucha i podrażniona skóra,

zmiany skórne w postaci czerwonych plam, pęcherzyków lub łuszczących się obszarów.

Diagnostyka i leczenie alergii u dzieci

Wczesna diagnostyka alergii jest kluczowa, aby skutecznie zarządzać objawami i poprawić jakość życia dziecka. Najczęściej stosowane metody diagnostyczne to:

testy skórne – polegające na naniesieniu alergenów na skórę i obserwacji reakcji,

testy z krwi – mierzące poziom przeciwciał IgE dla określonych alergenów,

testy eliminacyjne – stosowane głównie przy alergiach pokarmowych, polegające na eliminacji podejrzanego składnika z diety.

Leczenie alergii obejmuje unikanie alergenów, farmakoterapię (leki przeciwhistaminowe, sterydy wziewne, maści na alergie skórne) oraz w niektórych przypadkach immunoterapię alergenową, która pomaga stopniowo przyzwyczaić organizm do kontaktu z alergenem.

Jak zapobiegać alergiom u dzieci?

Choć nie zawsze można zapobiec rozwojowi alergii, istnieją pewne działania, które mogą zmniejszyć ryzyko ich wystąpienia:

karmienie piersią przez pierwsze miesiące życia,

unikanie dymu tytoniowego w otoczeniu dziecka,

zdrowa dieta bogata w różnorodne składniki od najmłodszych lat,

ograniczenie kontaktu z potencjalnymi alergenami,

dbanie o czyste, ale nie przesadnie sterylne środowisko domowe.

Podsumowanie

Alergie u dzieci to coraz poważniejszy problem zdrowotny, który wymaga odpowiedniej diagnostyki, leczenia i profilaktyki. Współczesna medycyna oferuje wiele skutecznych metod radzenia sobie z alergiami, dzięki czemu dzieci mogą prowadzić normalne życie pomimo tych dolegliwości.
