So, I found some sun & moon bracelets for pretty cheap and decided to treat myself

The only problem is they are those horrible pull each end to adjust the size kind and they have already broken so now I'm going to have to salvage the beads off of them and make my own bracelets that aren't awful

How would the alien boys give affection? Same way as us? Or would they be confused if they suddenly got a hug and or kiss? (For some reason I've been imagining them bonking each other's heads like cats do lmao)

Kissing would confuse them, they don't have the muscles to really purse their lips like we do, but hugging is absolutely a thing!

more casual forms of affection include things like hugging and bonking foreheads, while more intimate forms are touching noses together and touching someones tendrils

note: intimate does not necessarily mean romantic, but you don't let just anyone touch your tendrils. One gesture thats pretty exclusively done between life/romantic partners is rubbing the sides of your faces together

They'd look a little weird, and Sun isn't especially fond of fur, but terrifying is a bit of a stretch. They probably just wouldn't understand why we find them cute rather than being actively scared by them

Dog eyes (excluding those bugeyed tiny dogs-) are actually probably closer to what they find cute since they have a lot less visible whites in their eyes than humans

Plus like, you gotta remember that these guys live in a world where they're interacting regularly with species from all across the galaxy. They're used to being around sophonts and animals that look anywhere from slightly weird to off-putting and bizarre. Even humans, with our comparatively weird eyes and tiny raccoon hands, aren't like. THAT out there for them. Sun is less afraid of yn because of how they look and more because to him, a weird alien animal has appeared in his house and he as no idea what its capable of. Is it venomous?? Is it going to spit acid?? He truly has no idea and that is frightening

what makes a conventionally cute pet to sun & moons species? are humans comparatively huge eyes cute and baby-ish or weird and buggy (or both)?

so, the two most popular pets are basically a chubby, flat salamander looking guy and an eel thats been domesticated in a similar way to dogs so theres like, a million different breeds of eel and some of them are fucked up like how a pug is fucked up you know? The salamanders are bred for their coloration and live up in the house with you, while the eels are bred for their fin variation and live in the water around/under the house. The eels were originally domesticated and bred to do various jobs, mostly protecting crops or pest control

As for what makes them cute, both of these species have really small eyes, with the salamanders' looking almost like an axolotl. This is similar to how the young of sun and moon's species look, they hatch with underdeveloped, tiny eyes.

As for yn's eyes.... Yeah we honestly look a little weird and buggy. It comes down to how expressive our eyes are, more than anything I think. They really don't have visible whites in their eyes, unless your like sun who's eyes are fully white. I think the way you can see our eyes moving around would be a little unsettling (not to mention the eyebrows, why do they move so much??) Plus our eyes are just a Little bit more forwards facing than theirs, and I think that would also add to it

My friend speculative biology has been a special interest of mine for years it was really only a matter of time before I invented an alien species and whole ecosystem/culture for them. It's honestly only through sheer force of will I'm not giving every random alien character in this fic this level of attention

When I made mer designs for the dca I gave them the exact same treatment, figuring out why things evolved the way they did is one of my favourite parts of creature design

hmm.. I've reached a bit of a conundrum in I Want To Believe

I want yn to start referring to the boys with he/him, but I can't think of any good way to do it without implying that it/its pronouns are dehumanizing- which I don't want to do because those are pronouns I occasionally enjoy for myself and because the boys are going to continue using it/its for yn at least until they figure out yn is sapient

the only thing I can think of is to just not address it but that feels like a cop out. especially since my writing is so train of thought focused
