you know, i always find it really funny when dudebros complain about syndicate and odyssey being too "jokey" or not "taking its characters seriously" or whatever…

like, did y'all collectively sleep through "it's-a me, mario!", "i meant besides vaginas", ezio inventing the latte, bartolomeo's... just... *gestures vaguely* entire character, etc?

like, it's fine to have preferences of course, i myself prefer a more serious and grounded tone, but these are usually the same people who tout the ezio trilogy as "peak assassin's creed", call ac1 a glorified tech demo and hate on connor for being "too serious and boring", like? make it make sense!

#asscreed #ac syndicate #ac odyssey #dont get me wrong #i do have problems with syndicate and even more so with odyssey #but it's not the tone lol #honestly i think kassandra is the protagonist that's the most similar to ezio if you really think about it #but bc she's a woman she's suddenly 'overpowered' and 'unrealistic'#yall don't remember the insane things that ezio survives in revelations do you #speaking of which #been replaying the ezio games lately #and i have something to confess...... i really don't think ac2 is good #ac brotherhood was a BIG improvement #in terms of story pacing for one (none of those insane unmotivated time jumps... well aside from the strange montage at the end)#and the characters are a lot more fleshed out (probably bc there aren't like 20 of them)#and the handling of female characters is MUCH less egregious #maybe bc there's only really claudia and caterina left LOL #lucrezia is a little annoying i guess... but she gets a pass bc she's cesare's sister and really they're the same kind of crazy lol #and hey we actually get to see how dangerous sex work can be and how it's not just a way for sexy nuns to give inner peace to men #even cristina gets fleshed out!#and i like that we get so see ezio being a little bit of a selfish prick in her missions #and making bad decisions in interpersonal relationships #at least i THINK that's what we're supposed to take away from it... but who knows maybe it's just supposed to be a tragic love story...#i hope not.... i hope the player IS supposed to think that ezio's treatment of her is bad. otherwise.... :/#sorry for rambling #guess im just kinda surprised by how much i enjoyed brotherhood #it had been a long time since i last played it #also the modern day is really good!#that you can talk so much to everyone and also being able to read their emails and the mundane banter... idk i just think its neat :)

'man part of me... actually really wants that and a part of me #Does Not because steven is a literal child and at the end of the day i want him to stay innocent'#and meanwhile in the back of my head i'm just #war flashbacks to 16 yr old steven Going On the Offensive and uh #it not ending well :')#which i still think... narratively- how it's presented- was kinda genius on a meta level #they play up that fight the whole episode... building up towards it with a whole anime-esque training montage #playing it up like some fuckin shounen shenanigans #for Many audience members i think they were like 'holy shit lets GOOOOOO fight fight fight'#but then like #WHAM. consequences hit #and it's not a fun little shounen fight scene anymore #and you realize that this is the worst possible thing that could've ever happened to steven- truly giving himself over to the offensive #like god damn holy SHIT i cannot wait for this reactor to eventually get there #bc his reaction to steven having to stab a sword clear through bismuth was VISCERAL #and i just KNOW it'll be the same at That Moment #and i CRAVE it #but i need to be patient ahahah #all in good time :)

#you know it's bad when u look at kyomoto and see yourself but at the same time. ugh #my friend came out of the cinema and we were talking and they mentioned how fujino was too much on kyomoto #and i know that and i saw that but during the montage. where kyomoto was draping a jacket over fujino or when fujino said im back #and kyomoto said welcome home and the way they took care of each other and slept in the same bed and whatnot.#i just. i kinda wanted that. even though i know their dynamic was not very healthy #it wouldve been nice if she got out of art school and became competent at the things she wanted to be and more confident and self reliant #and then they could work together #but. ugh #idk i have had relationships where i was a fangirl and a supporter and practically idolized the other person #and i would've liked it if my fujino didn't let go of my hand #alas #im gonna watch it again #ik a lot of ppl said it got them back into drawing so i really want to feel that too

#I’m not much of a music guy but it’s good!!#i kinda wanna rewatch just the catch all the little motifs and stuff #the one falin leitmotif that shows up in all of the flashbacks abt her and then when Marcille’s resurrecting her is one of my faves #and the song that plays whenever they’re cooking #which is esp effective when they’re doing something other than cooking but it’s a cooking style montage and they use that same music #like when they’re putting falin’s skeleton together it lends a sorta. mundanity? to that whole thing?#which makes it so much worse (positive)#icarus is talking #dungeon meshi #this is from my recollection I could be misremembering some of that

Just watched Treasure Planet

It was really good!

#treasure planet #it kinda felt like silver and jim grew close too quick (over a montage no less)#but character progression happening too quick bugs me in many many movies so it may just be a me thing instead of something actually wrong #with the movies #i easily forget that most movies are just over an hour long and that's not enough time for slowburn #I'd probably only fully enjoy character progression in movies that were like 2-3 hours long

and as the credits started I realized something

THEY DIDN'T EVEN SHOW PERCY BEING GOOD AT CANOEING

#in the book they have basically a training montage #of Percy trying things out to figure out where his skills lie #and thus what his godly parentage might be #and he does a bunch of stuff (of which they show TWO on the show wtf????)#but the only one he's good at is canoeing #which is so fucking funny esp bc Percy's kinda salty about it #look of all my qualms with the second episode #(most of them based around Annabeth and Clarisse's characterizations)#this is the most minor but in a way the most frustrating #it was so funny in the book and such an easy thing to include and it wasn't????#(also Mr. D would NOT say that. and by that I mean his speech at the end of the episode)#speechie watches PJO #speecher speaks

Finally finished the Sherlock bbc show and for the most part I enjoyed myself. I think I want to cosplay Sherlock. But my gosh, season four was abominable. I went in knowing nothing besides the usual sherlock holmes stuff so I went in non-biased. I just actually thought season four was just not well written. I thought that by season three they were already losing it because drugs made them see a ghost dog. It started turning fantastical and nonsensical. So imagine me watching season 4. What a decline. They should've wrapped it up with season two in my personal opinion. But hey, I watched it! And it was semi enjoyable.
