I live in Utah, the plastic surgery capital of the US, and the sheer number of women I've heard of having horrific side effects to the various things they've done to their bodies is terrifying. Breast implants, labioplasties and certain hair dye jobs are all hella common triggers for everything from cancer, severe allergic reactions and massive infections, to just general botched surgeries and general decrease in quality of life. There's a huge standard For everyone to be "utah pretty" or "mormon pretty" when it's literally just "how blonde can we make you while also giving you the most exaggerated hourglass figure possible."

Meanwhile these women were never "ugly" before. Most of the women I've seen doing this have been already very attractive before the surgeries and the 7 year dye jobs. Then they feel pressured into the surgeries and the salons and even eating disorders and suddenly they seem less happy and more like they're constantly hunting the next big surgery or skincare product or hair routine.

Live your life, but holy shot LIVE your life. It's ok to be comfortable in your own skin. Human bodies are never perfect. That's the point <3

tldr: She comes from a family of big name actors in the industry, and shes been raised from hatching to continue their legacy. Its…a lot of pressure to put on a kid, especially one who just wants to make her (impossible to satisfy) family proud. Despite being surrounded by impossible standards, the fakest friends chosen for her, being given everything she can ever want (except what she really needs), and putting on a hundred masks for everyone in her life for survival’s sake in a cutthroat industry, she chooses to be kind.

Her name is Sariwa, which means “fresh” . Named for her spring green tentacles and as a blessing from her parents that shed stay youthful, beautiful. a hope that she would be seen and be adored (as freshness implies coolness/popularity in sploonworld).

Shes hatched into the acting industry, with both parents being big in the industry. From hatching she was expected, trained to be an actor like her mother is. The media adores them, this “sweet little family”, but no one knows how nefarious everything is when the cameras are off.

The dad is neglectful, disappearing into meetings most of the time. The mom is a helicopter parent to make up for it. Pointing out every flaw that Sariwa apparently has in either performance or appearance. Never giving praise. Except when she performs “well enough” on stage. This instills in the child this need to make them proud. to…to make everyone happy. She becomes someone whose dependent on other peoples’ praise to function.

Shes given everything else, dont get me wrong. Every material thing she’ll ever need. all the big popular “friends” chosen for her. But…shes not allowed to turf. yknow. biggest event in an inkling’s life here in Inkopolis. and shes not allowed to go to school either. shes too busy memorizing lines for adverts or-

The second she turned 14, she was chosen as the lead role for Cuttlegear’s brand new show abt Agent 3. She looked exactly like the legendary hero, according to the sources. All her time went into this project. Thankfully, unlike at home…her co-actors were very kind. Her parents didnt choose for her this time. She was meeting actual people who dont put on masks beyond their job. the actor they got for Cuttlefish, in particular, is a very kind soul, defending her when the directors get too pissy with her performance. (Those are the only people she fears, tbh shes fearful of most authority figures.)

*Cuttlefish is also depicted as kind and supportive in the show. and in most games. Unlike the real Cuttlefish, which is kind of a loony old man who pushes ideas on young inklings. He still gives more support and kindness that 3s dad ever gave, but thats only RELATIVE to how little he gave in the first place. One can only imagine the longing this inspires in the real 3.

Sariwa…since shes hatched shes had to put on an act. Be the perfect little doll for her parents. For the world. But her friends here, they inspired her to…have fun with what shes doing again. To take off the mask (mostly beyond the clock). Breathe life in the character when she can. (But lets be real…shes getting 3 spot on with how many parallels they have with each others lives.)

But what is she beyond the mask, her role? She wasnt allowed to do anything beyond this. She was forced to depend on her abusive parents and their associates. She cant live alone beyond them. Not allowed to turf bc shes “a prim and proper young lady; above such violent drivel that only delinquents participate in”. They gesture to 3, whos one of the faces Squidforce uses in their promotions, and say (ironically.) that she must not become that. Face ripped to shreds and eye mangled.

No one knows they got that from the real war that Sariwa is pretending to show.

The show does its best to be an accurate telling. Child friendly, to a point. Horrifying things still get kept in somewhat. Things that will horrify a child on stage.

If Sariwa is terrified of the props, can you imagine how it was for 3?

And once she realizes all of this. Once she gets out of this situation thanks to Callie, Marie, and 3 themself. Does she feel guilt? Guilt for depicting the horrors in a way that glorifies it instead? A part of a project that aims to make people complacent to the real horrors that churned below?

There is one thing Sariwa feels about 3, that I am aware of rn.

“Im glad, that out of every story I couldve told, Im glad it was yours.”

Just like 8, she sung this tale in her hearts. Just like 8, she used this to break out of this terrible situation, answering the call of the ones who promised her safety. A better life. Like the way she stage broke through that prop in the choreographed Octavio fight, she broke through the influence of those around her.

*She actually went off-script a bit in that scene. After she beat down Octavio, she held out her hand. Mostly to help the actor up. But then, without realizing, she spoke, she spoke of making things better between the nations. That maybe he doesnt have to steal the zapfish anymore.

Her time with the octoling actors, and hearing the stories from the ex-octarians, made her aware and know the fact that theyre people too. The directors kept it in. They knew that if they released this as they have planned it, there will be fuckign riots from the ex-octarians or the Inkling “sympathizers”.

She saw the value this story held, despite the subliminal messaging that she wished wasnt implemented. That she wished she wasnt a part of. She saw that its a tale of hope. A tale that inspires one to become the hero of their own life. A tale that inspires one to make the world a better place.

So she was hatched and raised to make people smile, singing her songs and dancing their dances. Much like the clan singer that was 4, except the tradition is much more healthy compared to industry standard. And she didnt become as mean as the people around her, at least not internally. She put on a mean mask but she felt the void within. When she was given kindness for a long enough time, she put her walls down.

And just like the real 3, she underwent through the horrors of expectations she had to hold up, and trying to make uninterested parents proud. They dont see her as their daughter, shes just a means to an end. She had to wear a hundred masks to survive and it made her lose her sense of identity. She had to be mature, she had to take the shitty behavior of adults who expect her to be like one too. It made her lose grip of who she is beyond this role. Hell, they made her so dependent on their handouts that shes not sure she can exist beyond this hell. Much like how 3 struggles to know a life beyond their duty.

And much like 8, she used the story she was telling to break out and get herself in a better situation. She met with the real Agents 1 and 2 (without her knowledge) and asked. Begged. for help, after her show ended. (3 also kind of pointed the two in her direction. Bc cod knows how horrifying this industry is. Shes lucky she didnt get any of the grosser horrors ~~its bc I didnt feel comfortable writing such topics~~)

And then shes faced with the same problem all the real legends faced. What comes after the end? When the dust clears, what happens next? She wasnt given a damn choice, she wasnt allowed to try to learn things beyond this role. to be beyond an imagined agent 3. a soldier for the screen. who is she now, that shes out of that battlefield?

little does she realize that the real 3s asking the same question for themself.

hollyberry + golden cheese are also part of the crew of 'thinking pv is a bit naive', but he's also the most emotionally intelligent out of all of them and incredibly empathetic and thats something they both respect a whole lot .

dark cacao on the flipside can see how much of a mental toll being empathetic can be

white lily seems to have the most "whole" thought of pv - which would make sense, she's been with him the longest and has seen every facet that is pv. but even still her worries that he's too trusting of her are eating away at her thoughts- as such a pv shapeshifter made of her subconscious Would be way more naive .

in my head white lily's pv would be the last shapeshifter and in order to tell the difference between them white lily would ask if he ever doubted her . the real pv would say that he definitely struggled and had been lost and confused- but ultimately trusts her above all else . vs the shapeshifter who would just say "no I'd never doubt you" .

i didnt have room for it but i think dark cacao also recognizes hollyberrys seriousness . if you get drunk with someone enough times you'll start to piece together the really vulnerable moments you had with eachother . i think hollyberry and dark cacao have the closest relationship and im not saying this because im in love with both of them

golden cheese has a bit of a recollection issue and you can see that with hollyberry + cacao the most. golden cheese reminisces a Lot and that affects how she remembers the othera . hollyberrys is a bit of a trickier thing but in this instance golden cheese doesnt remember the braids. she knows hollyberry has a different outfit than before but doesn't pay it much mind

you might have noticed the pattern at this point of pure vanilla having a bit of a cutesy interpretation of all the ancients. he loves his friends so much that he has a bit of a harder time being critical of them. he thinks dark cacaos seriousness/grumpiness is endearing. to be honest its partly an inverse of shadow milks interpretation of the ancients (simple and positive vs simple and negative) but that wasnt entirely intentional. just interesting to notate now that im thinking of it

hollyberrys dark cacao is a bit of an inverse also to what i was talking about with dark cacaos hollyberry . shes seen the sweeter more heartfelt side of dark cacao and that shines through to her

if it wasnt for the outfit + hair, golden cheese's dark cacao would have probably been the last shape shifter standing

and i will stand by the dragon cacao headcanon till the day i die

golden cheese's was fun to think about bc of the little details that are different between the different shapeshifters- specifically in the neck area (bc thays the only portion you guys get to see) . dark cacaos is a bit more of a hanbok style, white lily has a turtleneck thing kind of happening, etc etc. i think pure vanilla has the most accurate idea of what she looks like .

i think white lilys interestingly enough would be the last one standing because i honestly dont think her golden cheese would even be talking with her :(( so we'd only really find out the difference when white lily's gc is forced to talk to her . white lily thinks that gc hates her and wants her gone but golden cheese's feelings are wayy wayyy more complicated. golden cheese doesn't want white lily gone she Is glad that she's back but its also hard. everything she loves is gone right now . but she's going to find a way to get it back- and if white lily can help than maybe that'll rekindle their relationship.

the cuteification beam still reaches for white lily despite how much pv knows her . i doubt this would help with white lilys feelings that pv is being naive bc shes looking at a shapeshifter based off of pvs subconscious and that subconscious is showing so mucy nostalgia it probably hurts

hollyberry in the past probably really babied white lily + pure vanilla because she Knows theyre not eating . shes observant as hell and will always demand they have at least one bite of something in order to figure out if they're Really "not hungry".

the last one would probably land on golden cheese's bc again . her feelings are complicated and as such her subconscious would showcase that multifaceted issue of "knowing this is your friend and also knowing your friend is responsible for your kingdoms destruction".

how do you think hen/karen are misunderstood by the fandom ( and the characters? ) 👀

hmmm let me jot down my (admittedly half-baked) thoughts

hen: magical powers. the idea of her as a Wise Woman. this 6x03 moment in particular plagues me:

buck: i mean, hen, you-you always have the answers

that's a succinct summary of how both buck and fandom see hen. which is ironic given that hen promptly experiences near-death in a near-car crash from over-working herself in that episode. the show purposefully deconstructs the superhuman!hen myth in s6 (which they'd accidentally built in the preceding seasons), but the idea still persists.

add on that bobby line about "mother hen," and you get this in-universe perception of hen as a wise guide which isn't accurate to her character. her advice and takes aren't always the best and are frequently clouded by her personal sentiments (drunk hen flip-flopping on whether buck should tell lucy about the kiss [in fairness, she's drunk, but i think her inebriation gives a fair look into her unfiltered, impulsive thinking]; hen doubting whether chim should marry maddie; hen saying she and karen should "fight" for nia).

she doesn't know everything! and she doesn't have super-human perception, catching every little detail around her like shawn spencer in psych, as fanon can sometimes make her out to. she's just intelligent and skillful (which are traits that she WORKED to attain. she wasnt magically gifted Super Paramedic Hands by god. we saw her work for that. i think people forget that).

chim's "you're the genius, i'm the comic relief" line is interesting, too, because everyone (including hen) recognizes that chim is under-estimating himself when he refers to himself as "comic relief," but there's not the same recognition of how "genius" parallels that, in terms of being an over-simplification

none of this is to say hen isn't wise, or perceptive, or talented. i just think those traits of hers get exaggerated by fans and other characters to caricature-ish levels.

as for karen:

i've seen people describe her as "selfless" which is. interesting. i think hen mistakes her for that too. karen IS selfless, yes, but it's a trait that veers more into self-sacrificial territory. she routinely gives up a Lot for her wife and family; not just her astronaut dream, but her emotions—suppressing them for others' sake. some stand-out dialogue:

hen: it's like that ivf stuff never even happened

chim: well, that's something

hen: my wife's a project manager—looks like i'm her new project

it's like. well, hen. i think your wife who never fully processed her grief around her lost embryos (which you admitted to not understanding, and in fact being frustrated with) is not enthusiastically picking up your recovery process from your recent traumatic experience as a mere matter of prioritization, but as a course of action for suppressing her grief and moving on (instead of actually recovering). that's self-sacrifice, not selflessness or supportiveness. she has moments where she stands her ground, but like in the case of toni's wedding (5x18), she's moved away from it quickly.

first off lottie is not popular. yeah, shes rich, but shes clearly somewhat of a loner (WHICH PARALLELS NAT?? WHICH MAKES IT MORE INTERESTING???) even courtney has said this in interviews. she feels ostracized, and a lot of it can be traced back to the flashback scenes we see, esp those about her relationship w her parents and her supposed mental illness. the 90s, especially the 90s in a high pressure rich family, was NOT a good place to have schizophrenia (and yeah theres the "she wasnt actually mentally ill" argument but that changes nothing because atp in the story her whole family and probably herself believed she was.

Then we have the nat characterization. The fanon "grumpy" to fanon lotties "sunshine". guys canonically nat smiles more than lottie. girlie was always grinning while lottie was experiencing the horrors all of s1. ofc they both went THROUGH it but that specific stereotype pissed me off sm i had to address it.

also, nat gets shown a lot as masc?? which is a fine headcanon but like for her style like the whole punk thing? she acc dresses relatively femininely.those are little irks abt nat but they bother me idc. too tired to write more on this rn but feel free to ask!

so basically taking this stuff into account - fanon lottienat uses a gross mischaracterization of both characters, especially lottie (also that suspiciously align w stereotypes HMMMMM) to literally make the ship more boring. You are making it a stupid and lame trope. You literally have these two insanely complex characters who mirror each other. Theyre not opposites attract, they are the same character in different skins. They're both loners, one because of her punk/rebel nature and nasty rumors, the other because of her mental illness and lack of closeness to people. Theyre both loners because of their social status and their fucked up home life. Theyre both providers - nat the hunter, bringer of physical and real food like the deer. Lottie the prophet, bringer of hope and, through the teams eyes, the birds, the bear, etc. Lottie who begs to be a martyr but is denied nat who runs from it but shoulders it anyways. They're both bleeding hearts they both give soul to the team and are some of the most genuine characters but they present it so differently.

The fact that the majority of content grossly mischaracterizes them and is the widely accepted fanon just.. sucks tbh. and the fact that people get so up in arms about them, and literally attack fans of other characters (lottielee fans... travis fans....) for no reason?? all these other characters do is contribute to what makes lottienat such a compelling and fucked up and interesting ship. i love them so much but lwk most of yall are insane and dont even appreciate them for what they really are.

Love For Love's Sake - Differences in the Kdrama and Novel: Spoiler Warning (Pt 1)

as the title says, i just wanted to spread information because I love this series and them soo much u cant pull me away from the grasp they have on me

the show is pretty faithful to the original, although there were some parts that were swapped for one reason or another - mostly due to time.

the way i'll do this is, i'll first say what happens in the Kdrama (since more people are familiar with it) and then what happens in the Novel - small changes like added dialogue / continuation of dialogue or simple swapped backgrounds wont be noted (unless I find it interesting, funny or of importance)

OR if the scene wasnt added to the drama at all, I'll note that down (and vice versa if the scene is not in the novel)

if something isnt explained - its because its exactly the same / similar enough to the Kdrama. also keep in mind that myungha has A LOT of internal dialogue in the novel - so some may be reference, some wont.

as usual im reading with a fan translation, so it may not be 100% accurate, but I'm trusting the fan who took the time out their day to translate - thank u to them

KDRAMA:

Myungha is asleep at his desk - he wakes up startled

the very first time myungha wakes up in this game world is not written down in the novel - instead it is mentioned he just woke up in the game (it was very casual - Myungha doesnt really panic)

its clear that at least a day had passed since he had come into this world (but that day isnt written)

myungha is in the faculty room - being scolded by a teacher

the teacher shouts at him for cheating on a quiz given previously (one he had done after he entered the game)

some insight over myungha being a 'dumb delinquent' is expressed here for the first time - with the teacher saying this random high score is unbelievable (Myungha usually has one of the lowest scores in the school)

after some shouting and a few slaps with a folder, the teacher lets him go, telling him not to cheat again but he has no real proof to keep him

Myungha bows before going back to his class, noting the strange environment he was thrown into (essentially giving context to his surrounds and the world)

myungha enters his class and gets his first ever message to make Yeowoon happy - he is dumbfounded by it and is scolded by the teacher to sit down.

myungha does as told and does a quiz until the bell rings

after class, Myungha roams the halls - other students avoid him (with even more context on myungha being a delinquent), he then meets Kyunghoon for the first time.

they talk about yeowoon (myungha doesnt get any flashbacks to the bar) he is about to go find his fav...

but he stops when Kyunghoon mentions the next class is about to start

myungha sighs and goes to class first - (he doesn't rush off immediately) this scene is to show Myungha's responsibility and his older 29 age - he's been worn down to be complacent by years of jobs - he's not like his 19 year-old self

he explains his surrounding a bit more and then gets a splinter telling him this isn't a dream - he needs to change yeowoon's 18

after class, myungha rushes to yeowoon's class

and how after the passing, yeowoon got into a car accident (also mentioned later) and broke his leg - making him lose his scholarship and money - making his life as dark as myungha's

myungha jumps over the school gates and rushes to yeowoon's location (once more complaining about having no money and repeating his original age)

yeowoon is standing on the OTHER SIDE of the fence, on the very edge (the fence here is a short, thin iron one so yeowoon doesnt stand ontop of it)

myungha realises that yeowoon's 'car accident' was actually him jumping off the roof

when myungha comes on the roof, he stratles yeowoon and yeowoon loses balance, letting go of the fence and falling off.

myungha rushes over and barely manages to grab yeowoon's hand (yeowoon had actually fallen off the roof)

the fence digs into myungha's stomach as yeowoon hits the side wall with a thud (luckily myungha caught him before he had fallen too far)

myungha sees his reflection in yeowoon's eyes and gets his 'Cha Yeowoon recoginses you' message.

myungha digs his heels into the ground asking yeowoon to 'please not die'

at first it was straining and difficult, but eventually myungha manages to pull yeowoon over the fence.

myungha calls yeowoon rude and yeowoon shrugs and says he hears that a lot. myungha realises yeowoon is much ruder than in his friend's novel - all his puppy-dog tailwagging is reserved for the female protagonist. (this part makes me giggle)

myungha asks if this is yeowoon's personality always or if he is just being bitchy right now - yeowoon says all the time. myungha says he isn't shocked yeowoon has no friends - yeowoon then tells myungha to name his own friends then. myungha cant. (i giggle x2)

myungha asks exactly why yeowoon cant make any friends, is it because his personality is so bad? (no joke he actually asks this - i giggle x3)

at this point yeowoon is somewhat annoyed and just agrees, telling myungha to go home. myungha doesn't, and they continue walking while eating icecream

when they reach a near yeowoon's house, yeowoon tells him to go away.

Myungha doesnt leave and asks to stay the night at yeowoon's place - yeowoon is visibly shocked so myungha backtracks and instead takes yeowoon to his house.

myungha gets the debuff and his resolve strengthens - myungha grabs his arm and drags him away

Yeowoon complains on the way to the busstop about getting bruises from myungha's grip while myungha acts like nothing is wrong and shrugs saying he should have given in

they wait at the busstop for a few minutes

yeowoon says he wont go, but myungha jokes and says he has no money to get himself home then - yeowoon says this is extortion.

the bus arrives

myungha drags him to the doors, yeowoon tries to leave but the driver shuts the doors immediatly as they enter

yeowoon swipes his card and tells the driver he's paying for both (myungha really thought yeowoon wouldnt pay for him)

myungha then gushes mentally over how yeowoon is still a good guy inside despite his exterior

myungha jokes "wow you paid for me" - yeowoon tells him not to talk to him.

yeowoon takes a seat at the front, myungha grumbles, telling him to sit together at the back but yeowoon doesnt even pretend to listen

myungha contemplates standing, but doesnt want fondess to low even more - and instead goes to the back

myungha searchs up about 'love supremacy' (same as kdrama)

myungha deosnt even realise when the bus stopped until driver tells him to get off - myungha apologises and does -

through most of the story we've seen so far Logan was a man, but the most accurate descriptor of his gender was probably "brother." Logan didnt know what gender he might have been if he was raised fae, and his perception of himself was so very tied to being a reflection of thomas that it impacted his physical and mental development at every turn - how he looked and aged were directly tied to thomas.

by the end of thomas's life, he had started to separate himself enough to stop aging in lockstep, his hair turning red where thomas's turned gray and eventually stopping aging altogether. after thomas died, he actually slid backward to being younger than virgil again but at his core "thomas's brother" was still a major cornerstone of his identity

When she transitioned, Logan wasnt worried about thomas specifically not loving her - by the end of his life and definitely by that age, she was more assured of thomas's unconditional love for her than just about anything else. her worries with patton and roman stemmed from knowledge that in life they had been attracted exclusively to masc people, and that they might still care about her but not be able to love her the way they had before

So she doesnt have that particular problem thinking of thomas, but it still feels a little like a betrayal, especially as her body starts changing, because she loves her new body and is very comfortable in it but she's also hyperaware of the way every change makes her look less and less like thomas. at the peak of these cycles, she knows they still would look like siblings, but they definitely dont look like twins

and no matter how much she enjoys the changes, it still feels like losing pieces of him

but in the afterlife, this becomes less of a concern, because people arent physical in the same way. everyone is just soul-to-soul, looking familiar to those who know them but also being aware of a lot of other stuff that you cant perceive in a physical body

Roman knows Logan's a woman in the backyard the moment he sees her, in spite of Logan having been there a week already and most definitely not when they went to bed last night. she does look visually different, but that knowledge has nothing to do with her physical body, its that Roman can see the spirit of her and know she's different

all of which is to say that logan and thomas standing next to each other in the afterlife look not only like twins but like the most twinny twins to ever twins, regardless of what Logan looks like visually. she can finally relax in the knowledge that she gets to keep both, no matter what phase she's in, forever :)

HIYA SO THIS IS KASPER (ik its spelled diff in the pics i only changed it recently :sob:) he's my creepypasta oc :D usually he wears like average blue jeans and a brown/green shtriped turtleneck like in the last image kinda ? and green converse with like beads or drawings on them :D personality: Hates physical contact unless he initiates or very much trusts you, in which case he's always finding little ways to have contact; brushing their hand, tail wrapped around their wrist, hand on shoulder, bumping shoulders, ect. he cant get enough of it. Also just generally dislikes people (that he doesnt know/isnt comfy with) but can mask his hate pretty well and gives respect (with a side of sarcasm) where respect is due. Harsh and truthful, will not be afraid to get in your face and tell you how shit is as he sees it or just straight up insult you. If he's chill with you, he'll be pretty playful or sarcastic but can be ticked off or triggered somewhat easily. When he's on his own he's usually pretty relaxed and creative, a lot less prickly than when he's around people. he's pretty energetic and a bit of a trickster, a huge fan of pranks, he's a sarcasm lord and honestly pretty fun to be around if you can match his energy and keep up with his quips and jokes. if not, you're bound to get tired of him quick. he CAN be serious, but mostly only if he's in a fight and losing or if he's pissed off about something, in which he tends to lash out and say literally whatever he's thinking, be it brutal honesty about how he feels in the moment, how he thinks of someone or just random phrases and words that fly across his mind. any other time would be if he was comforting someone, in which case he turns into a big ole lovebug and does whatever he can to make them feel better. despite being such a yapper all the time he's a great listener too, and gives some pretty solid advice when he can. he canonically has a whole slew of issues including ptsd, anxiety, depression, autism, AND derealization/dissociation, coupled along with experiencing hallucinations, which is part of the reason that before he joined the mansion he was extremely wary of slenderman, less so because he was SLENDERMAN but moreso because he thought he was simply another hallucination. his backstory is located here , and while i need to adjust the writing bc i did it when i was like half sleep deprived its still accurate to his character. he is a cannibal and experiences blackouts if he goes too long without feeding, which send him into a basically unreachable state of rage and hunger. he's.. basically decimated a town or two thanks to this, because when he first realised he had to eat human meat to sustain himself he really didnt want to all that much and tried to avoid it until he realised just how dangerous that was. ANYWAYS YEAH i hope this wasnt too much to read and I HOPE YOU LIKE HIM i made him like right after i joined the fandom and hes probably not all that great in the grand scheme of things but i like him and hes my son and resides in a snowglobe where i shake him around for fun sometimes THATS ALL I HOPE UR DAYS GOING SUPER GOOD

I know the Original Snow White is by the brothers Grimm, I’m not stupid like you. Walt Disney had made an adaption to Snow White he didn’t copyright it fully he made an adaptation. With that being said it is a beloved German story and fairytale Disney movie. Her trashing it makes it worse because not only was it Walt Disneys it was the brothers Grimm since you now want to bring it up.

What pisses me off more now is the Prince is apparently a Pedophile now. The movie was in 1937 dumbass, there were age gaps, incest and a lot of other things that happened that are illegal now. Greek mythology has a lot of incest considering Zeus is married to his sister Hera. Egyptians had incest because it was apart of their culture for their blood lines. It didn’t matter then because they didn’t have what we have now and they didn’t learn the same things that we learned back then. when i was a quite young teenager, i spent months rolling around different gender identities. various flavors of nonbinary, different sets of pronouns. none of them felt right, none of them clicked. ultimately, the reason i wasnt happy with any of those identities or pronouns was because i ended up just being... a guy! i would never have gotten comfortable enough with my own masculinity to realize my maleness if it hadnt been for that period of time i identified with butchness.

i guess what im trying to say is that in order to become the fullest version of yourself (fullest, not best or most accurate, just the one that makes you the happiest), sometimes you have to try out many different things and see what sticks and what doesnt. if you think that using he/they would make you happy, then try using he/they! try using he/him! get familiar with yourself. test out a binary, then break it. if you dont know what labels to use to refer to yourself, make new labels. or dont use any. or use many. you are not betraying your past self by deciding youve changed how you feel.

becoming yourself can be scary. realizing the truth of yourself can be scary, and isolating, and confusing. it is also one of the greatest things to ever happen to you. we can be brave together

I’m back after a short break (due to a ridiculous amount of homework) with Chapter 3 of Scythe. Spoilers for a good chunk of the series ahead

-This chapter has the first of MANY mentions of destiny in this series. Destiny is a concept that reoccurs again and again. First, with Rowan and Citra becoming Scythes, the various deaths that follow, and the ending. It’s pondered a lot when they regret something, which I think is very accurate to how people think.

-Them seeing the opera “The Force of Destiny” cements this idea into my head. They may not have religion, but Destiny is as big in their world as it is in ours.

-Right off the bat, some cheeky worldbuilding. “Letters from the eccentric - the only type of people who still wrote letters”. In the series a lot of things are just Shushterman having fun with what he can put in, but there are definitely elements of prediction. Like this : today a good portion just email or text things, but there are still letters. Shushterman took this a few hundred (?) years into the future and figured that letters were probably VERY rare by then. It’s not a new concept by any means, but I think it’s cool.

-There’s a lot of foreshadowing in this book. I do tend to over-analyse things, since I can’t help myself, but I think that the thing Citra says about whoever invited her is pretty obvious. “It’s probably some loser’s way of inviting me on a date”. There are a few problems. Rowan didn’t invite her, and in my books he is most definitely not a loser. But my point stands!

-Genetic indexes are introduced!!! I find this fascinating because you can see how much people have mixed, so race is now a pretty fluid concept. In this chapter we only discover what two of them are. The third number is PanAsian, and the second number is Afric. This is a great way of giving a base idea of what your charecters look like, without going into an out-of-place detail sesh.

-Faraday commands respect when he walks into a room. And I think that the line “Honourable Scythe Faraday was not a figure you soon forgot” doesnt only refer to the fact that people respect Scythes, but that people respect Faraday. And fear him.

-Rowans reaction is great : “You?”. There are a lot of ways to interpret this, but I can feel the contempt radiating off of the pages.

- Rowan understands a lot, he has great observation skills, and he’s similar to a scythe Faraday. No wonder he clocked that he wasnt going to glean them before Citra did. He knows that’s not the only outcome.

-I don’t have anything to add to this quote, I just love it. “With nothing to aspire to, life has become about maintenance. Eternal maintenance.” Because that’s it. That’s part of the point of the book. That humans will always try and find a way to live

- The decision not being difficult for Rowan makes sense. It’s also a great contrast to Citra who has to leave a lot of stuff behind to be a a scythe. It’s pointed out, but Rowan already knows what it feels like.

-Faraday taking them to a mortal art exhibit is so good. Like, of course. Faraday, who is ao obsessed with humanity, who has ridiculously high empathy levels, loves art. And Rowan does too. He says it himself “In the end it was the art that did it”. Him and Faraday are very alike.

-The contrast between Rowans and Citra is very clear in this chapter. “We’ll support you either way��� compared to “if you think that’s best”.

-Scythe Faraday gets to shine in this chapter. He “breaks” into an art gallery, and when questioned by it he just says “perks of the position”. He got the kids he’s going to make into killers to meet at an Opera. He loves art so much, you can tell.

-THIS QUOTEEEE “Tonight we will witness yeh spectacle of human folly and tragedy. Tomorrow, we shall live it.”

if i had to be accurate i think exile was not at all obsessive or systematic abuse, i genuinely think it was revenge gone wrong wait hear me out. we have proof that the whole cdream is obsessed with ctommy theory wasnt realistic or canon and if we take into account how weirdly cdream sometimes acted in exile with the whole letting tommy have fun with the trident etc we can kinda make paralels to similar stuff irl which is why i always looked at exile as revenge based bullying gone horribly wrong. like cdream really did act like a highschool bully and you know why it comes across like that? because both ctommy and cdream are hella young. a lot of people wanna make it more traumatic more abusive more horrific or gory or whatever but the simplest explanation is often the first one, it was all bullying. and i find it very very weird how people on the other side did not consider bullying bad enough for it to be taken seriously so they had to invent intestine cakes and whatever the fuck else just to consider exile "bad enough" to be taken seriously when bullying is already more than bad enough.

isolating the victim? check. aking them do something against their will? check. lying to them? check. pretending to be their friend? check. making them believe their other friends abandoned them? check check check.

also the way it was done, like really? literally the trope of no one coming to the party and victim sits alone feeling sad? what is this, a cartoon show about the power of friendship??

exile was neither "not a big deal" nor "horror movie levels of abuse" it simply was a sad arc with themes that do hit too close to home for many. the psychological ramifications that came from it? whole nother issue that needs a seperate analysis because yes, bullying victims can and do develop paranoia and some of the other stuff ctommy exhibited but not all like the whole ctommy still being scared of cdream, following him obsessively even months after it was clear cdream wanted nothing to do with him anymore, etc did throw me off because thats not really regular bullying or even abuse victim behavior??? i digress

tbf exile being 2 weeks of vengeful peer abuse, also known as bullying, is straight up just canon

the "obsession" take that we specifically had issue with had a lot of issues in the way that it very deliberately rewrote c!dream's entire character to explain ALL of his actions through an obsession with c!tommy. specifically, there was a lot of malice ascribed to him LONG before exile in order to say that c!dream basically wanted to do something like exile from the very beginning to c!tommy, but wasn't able to until exile happened because c!wilbur was protecting him or some other shit. that reading relied on the worst possible faith retelling of everything c!dream has ever done + a good amount of just straight up narrative rewriting to emphasize how young and innocent and vulnerable c!tommy is and how obsessive weird creepy stalker grown ass man who wanted c!tommy to himself c!dream apparently was from day one, a take that emphasizes exile as The End Goal of months of obsession instead of being in service to some other goal as is canon. that's the obsession take that was passed around quite frequently that we specifically took a lot of issue with.

on the other hand, c!tommy being c!dream's victim because c!dream disproportionately blames him and took all sorts of shit out on him and found a degree of vindictive pleasure in hurting him is literally just. canon? that's canon.
