On This Day In History
August 5th, 1969: Atlanta police raid a screening of the film Lonesome Cowboys to identify, photograph, and later arrest “known homosexuals” (according to Atlanta Chief of Police Herbert Turner Jenkins). About 70 theater-goers were targeted.
Only six weeks after the Stonewall Riots, the event is sometimes referred to as the Stonewall of the South. It directed led to anti-police protests and the formation of the Georgia Gay Liberation Front.

Bose Ikard (ca. 1840s–1929) was an African American cowboy who participated in the pioneering cattle drives on what became known as the Goodnight–Loving Trail, after the American Civil War and through 1869. Aspects of his life inspired the fictional character Joshua Deets, the African-American cowboy in Larry McMurtry‘s novel Lonesome Dove.
Bose Ikard was born into slavery around 1847 or in 1843 in Summerville, Noxubee County, Mississippi. He lived with his master’s family prior to the Civil War, becoming a ranch hand and cowboy as he grew up in Texas after the Ikards moved from Mississippi to Parker County, Texas. On the post-war cattle drives, Ikard served as a tracker, a cowboy and as Charles Goodnight‘s de facto banker, often carrying thousands of dollars in cash until the money could be deposited. After his last cattle drive in 1869, Ikard settled in Parker County, becoming a farmer and raising a family with his wife Angeline.

finally finished lonesome dove and holy shit.
i don’t even know where to begin this book has fucked me up. like. it was 858 pages of cowboy shenanigans (in the most serious way possible) and it’s over now. i’ve been reading it for like 5 months and now it’s done and i NEED more
i need to see what happens to Newt and Call and the Hat Creek Outfit and the new ranch in Montana. WHAT ABOUT CLARA AND LORIE AND JULY AND DISH AND MARTIN AND THE GIRLS WHAT HAPPENS DO THEM. do they get to live happy peaceful lives?? or do they get slaughtered like half of the main cast??
it has 37 fics on AO3, and they’re all about Gus and Call. i’m still going to read all of them, but I WANT MORE DEETS AND JOE AND ROSCOE CONTENT. THEY HAD SO MUCH LIFE AHEAD OF THEM BEFORE THEY GOT SCALPED. WHAT THE HECK.
ALSO SEAN. WHY WAS HE THE FIRST TO GO
the urge to make content for them is insane, especially July. his whole life after Arkansas is insane and deserves a music video to Johnny Cash. i’ll do it don’t fuck with me
anyways overall PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEE READ THE BOOK SOMEONE I NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT GRAHHHHHHHHHH

5. How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?
You didn't say any specific OCs so i'm guessing i can pick freely
well Sage Solace is most definitely not new to committing unspeakable acts to get what he wants, he has no qualms with putting other's lives on the line if it's what it takes to achieve his goals nor does he care for his own wellbeing, putting himself in near death situations on a near daily basis
however, even the worst of men have lines they won't cross, and sadly for Sol over here, his biggest weakness is his nature

Movie still from the 1957 Paramount Picture's film Loving You. In this scene Elvis Presley is performing "Lonesome Cowboy." Interesting fact, Loving You was originally entitled "Lonesome Cowboy."

Don’t get the wrong idea, I am forever a devoted hater of the GQ France mag photoshoot, but I need to stop lying to myself about the impact that the Alex with a rifle and a cowboy coat pic has had on my little brain chemicals.
