Thoughts on Pokemon Go? I found it awesome and exciting at the time it came out since it didn't feel like there had been a game like it before. The concept was very refreshing and I also played it for a time; but I wasn't able to sustain it since I also never learned how Pokemon battles worked, lol. My sister plays it to this day, though.
What podcasts do you listen to, if any? My attention span is too short to enjoy podcasts. I've tried so many times before to get into many different podcasts, but I always end up tuning out by like the 5th minute. I like watching video interviews though, mainly on pro wrestling as wrestlers across the board tend to be masters of storytelling.
Which period of history was your favorite to learn about in school? There wasn't a specific period I had an inclination toward; I just enjoyed learning about history as a whole and it was the subject I always took the most seriously.
If you’re a tea drinker, what’s your tea of choice? If not, what’s your favorite beverage in general? I don't drink tea; my favorite is just plain iced water.
What was your most recent binge watch? Squid Game, lol. Season 2 is coming up in December, so my sister and I used the All Saints/Souls long weekend to watch the entire Season 1 so we're all caught up once the new episodes come out.
What’s the oldest thing currently in your house? The one thing I can think of is a notecard my mom gave to my dad; it was something she wrote him as a way to say yes to being his boyfriend. That being said, that piece of paper should be ~31 years old; it's currently taped to the inside of her closet door.
What’s something silly you believed as a child? That girls who get married will magically be pregnant. Like, marriage is a thing your body Just Recognizes and it will make a baby for you. It's what I observed with all the older people I knew who'd get married; they all seemed to get pregnant a month or so after the wedding, haha. It's 50% not knowing the concept of sex as a child and 50% living in a conservative country where premarital sex is considered one of the worst things you could ever do.
What’s the last thing you cooked or heated up? Takoyaki. Angela and Hans came over on short notice, and since that was the only food I had I heated it up just in case they wanted something savory.
Are you excited at all for the upcoming Olympics? I was a little bit, but everyone else was so much more crazed about it. I'm not a big sports person to begin with so I was just eh. I mostly paid attention to Jin carrying the torch, tbh.
Last video game you played? Rhythm Hive, if it counts.
Which of your parents’ birthdays did you last celebrate? What did you do? My mom's. Well a typhoon came on her birthday so we weren't able to do much on the day itself...I did take the family out for lunch the day before to celebrate it in advance. Then I also got balloons all over the house + cake that evening, so that come midnight we could have her blow her candles.
If you use Snapchat, do you post to your story or send individual snaps more often? I haven't used Snapchat in years, but when I was on it I used to post on my story way more. There were only a couple of people I exchanged Snaps with for the streak.
Have you ever used a power tool? Which one? Beyond a glue gun (does that even count?? HAHA) I don't think so.
Is your favorite color the same as when you were a kid? It is now, actually. I liked purple growing up, then pivoted to pink...then now I'm back to liking purple again.
Can you see a picture frame from where you are? What’s in that frame? Yes. We have several frames lining up the main stairs, all family portraits.
If you have Facebook, what is one of the topic trending right now? If you don’t, what is the most recent news you heard? The results of the US election.
Who was the last person you know to graduate? My workmate's brother.
Think of the farthest place you’ve traveled to. Do you have any souvenirs from there? That'd be Bali. I don't think I have any souvenirs from there, actually. I didn't have my own money yet so I couldn't buy anything.
Does your town put on any fireworks displays for the 4th of July and/or other holidays? We only have fireworks for New Year. I'll usually hear distant fireworks for Chinese New Year as well, but I don't give a fuck about that.
Do you know the number of the fire truck/engine closest to your house? No.
Have you ever met anyone the EXACT same age as you (some birthdate and year)? Yes, I had a schoolmate with the exact same birthdate. Dev, my workmate, is the only other person to come extremely close – she's just a day older than me, down to the very same year.
When was the last time you or someone else said/used your middle name for something? I haven't been called Isabelle since I was like 5 or 6.
Do you own anything covered in glitter? I don't think so.
When was the last time you rolled your eyes? At what? A few hours ago at work, toward a client who was being a diva. I didn't do it in front of them, obviously; but I did it while talking about that client with my teammates.
Do you get overwhelmed easily? Yeah, it's like second nature to me to be overwhelmed. It's just what I am on a constant basis – being on red alert as soon as I feel like things aren't going like the script that I've made up in my head.
Do you like mozzarella sticks? They're great, but they do nothing to fill my stomach.
What was the last blue thing you touched? My Koya plushies.
What was the last email you sent about? Can't remember, can't be bothered to check.
If you had to name one of your children after a friend, solely based on their name alone, who would you choose? Lorenza.
Do you like caramel? They're okay. It's something I wouldn't look for, unless it's coffee, but I fairly enjoy it when I have it.

Annnnd the results are in! The answer that was false is.....
Answer #9! Nobody transforms into a giant kraken to cause chaos in Splatoon.
There is a special ability called Kraken that you can use in multiplayer online, but it has no bearing on the story/lore so it is the false one. Everyone who doubted that bears existed im so sorry to say that you are wrong
Also yes i admit to the crime of Lying A Little To Sound Funny so some of these are technical lies and tripped up even veterans of the series. Sorrey <3 i know the sea urchin doesnt actually mug you and i know beef jerky doesnt exist it was an attempt to sound funny T_T
Explanations for all the other statements are under the cut! All links take you to a relevant Inkipedia page for further research if you so wish, but ill try to explain each as concisely as i can.
Ultimately this was an excuse to infodump and i did NOT expect it to blow up the way it did >XP i did enjoy reading the tags of non-fans and which ones they thought was the outlier, so thank you everyone who participated!! If this convinced you to check the series out, ill consider my job here done. Even if you dont check out the series, thanks for looking at this silly poll <3
Without further ado, let me explain the batshit stuff i mentioned and also lied about a little
"the city gets its power from a massive electrified catfish"
The Great Zapfish is, as stated, a massive catfish with electrified whiskers. It sits at the center of city and generates power for everyone. Every game, the Zapfish is stolen and there's worries of a power crisis until it's rescued. Look at the guy! Its just a little man
"Squid ppl are inherently violent and their favorite passtime is bloodsports"
Okay i lied by accident on this one because i was remembering in-universe propaganda. Oops
So, Inklings (evolutionary form of squids) arent inherently violent, but they do take great pride in their victory over the Octarians during The Great Turf War 100 years ago. In memory of that victory, they started Ink Battles to let off steam and fight against each other in a friendly competition.
Turf Wars are the default Ink Battle, where the goal is to cover as much ground in your team's color as possible and is modeled after how The Great Turf War functioned. There are four other modes (Clam Blitz, Splat Zones, Tower Control, and Rainmaker) used in more competitive ranked battles. Inklings can respawn after dying, so they tend to aim for taking out their opponents as if it were an actual war being fought. Imagine if football players killed each other on the field thats basically what this is
"A bear steals a rocket ship to nuke the entire planet"
rip to everyone who didnt believe bears existed in splatoon. In fact there is One (1) bear that exists and he wanted to destroy the world bc he got too lonely </3
Mr. Grizz is the only survivor of a conservation effort gone wrong. He didn't cope well with being the only mammal left on earth after being cryofrozen for 12,000 years, and after a lot of experimentation discovered a way to create a substance called "Fuzzy Ooze" that could turn the evolved sealife into mammals. He repurposed a rocket ship left behind by a society of humans, loaded it with Fuzzy Ooze, and planned to crash it into Earth to coat the planet in it and "restore balance" (aka: bring mammals back to life). He was defeated, and is now harmlessly orbiting the Earth in space.
"a borderline illegal business involving mass slaughtering (sentient) fish"
Salmonids are an evolved amphibious species of salmon, which hatch their young from Golden Eggs. Mr. Grizz needed Golden Eggs as part of producing Fuzzy Ooze, and he needed lots of them for as much ooze as possible.
He founded Grizzco Industries to hire Inklings and Octolings to collect the eggs for him in a gamemode called Salmon Run, which is essentially COD Zombies but with salmon coming to attack. In this gamemode, your goal is to meet a quota of collected Golden Eggs which you get from killing Boss Salmonids, who have a variety of ways to attack you.
Grizzco Industries is very shady and was made to mimic your typical Toxic Workplace. Abysmal and dangerous working conditions, forcing employees to use illegally modified weapons, paying employees with prize capsules and currencies only useable in Grizzco shops instead of actual money... the list goes on. Mr. Grizz doesn't tell his employees why he needs the Golden Eggs, and never actually meets them face-to-face at all; every order is given through a pre-recorded radio.
Essentially, Mr. Grizz is taking advantage of the Inklings and Octolings having no idea what the Salmonids are actually like and spreads propaganda about them being mindless monsters who want to invade their city, all so they'll go out and get their Golden Eggs for him.
"theres a sea urchin who will mug you in a back alley"
Yes this is one i exaggerated for funsies and ppl got confused. Sorrey </3
Spyke is a sea urchin who hangs out in a back alley in Inkopolis, offering you services to do with your battle gear; specifically the abilities they can give you.
These services are ambiguous and maybe illegal (he asks if youre a cop when you first meet him and never really explains what he's doing, just that he can give you what you want) and he gets pushy if he notices that you have Super Sea Snails, which act as a food source/delicacy for him and a currency that you can use in place of cash for certain things he can do.
No he never actually mugs you but look at this guy
He'd absolutely shank a guy for a tasty snail. Also hes british
"fish ppl can batter and fry themselves like food as a fashion statement"
We see these in two NPCS; Crusty Sean and Fred Crumbs.
Crusty Sean is a shoe shop owner turned food truck owner turned explorer whos entire personality is being a fried shrimp. Fred Crumbs is a japanese horse mackrel that's been filleted and fried and takes over Crusty Sean's shoe shop. Dont ask how they survive this just smile and nod and accept the fried fish selling you shoes. How is he even wearing the shoes i dont knwo
"a testing facility murders its participants and uses the bodies to end the world"
rip to the people who thought this one wasnt real. This place is fucking crazy. This is literally the plot of Splatoon 2's 80s themed DLC, Octo Expansion.
The Kamabo Corporation, known as Kamabo Co., is a company created by Commander Tartar, a 12,000 year old AI gone rogue and set on wiping out all evolved sealife and creating a new, "superior" species. They're stationed in the Deepsea Metro, an underwater society of deep sea cretures.
The test involves kidnapping someone, erasing their memories, and convincing them that they can reach "The Promised Land" by passing the trial of gathering 4 "thangs". In reality, these 4 items combine to create a blender, which Tartar coerces them inside of and promptly kills them, blending them into a slurry and adding that slurry to the test subjects that came before them. All of these slurries of dead bodies combine to create Sanitized Ink, a substance that can essentially turn someone into a zombie or even kill them. This test was run with over 10,000 applicants, as the character you play as in the DLC is applicant 10,008.
When it's found out, Tartar attempts to load the Sanitized Ink into a laser cannon to be shot at the most populated city, Inkopolis, but is intercepted and defeated. The statue that Tartar used as its base of operations is still sunk into the water, but wrecked and useless.
"World War 2 is stopped bc 2 girls sang a really good song"
Another one that was sort of exaggerated for funnies
In the first two Splatoon games, DJ Octavio acts as the main antagonist, who steals The Great Zapfish from Inkopolis. Agent 3 and Agent 4 respectively defeat him and rescue the Zapfish, empowered by Callie and Marie singing the Calamari Inkantation, which also serves to distract DJ Octavio and convince members of the Octarian Army to defect.
No its not explicity stated that a war would break out but like. The inklings are gonna want their main sorce of power back yknow. And octarians are enemies of the state. Also if you havent PLEASE listen to calamari inkantation itll blow ur tits clean off
"Someone does a magical girl transformation into a strip of beef jerky"
I am so sorry for tripping everyone up by adding the word beef. Thats my bad
Anyway, this is referencing when Cap'n Cuttlefish was dehydrated by Mr. Grizz in an attempt to kill him. He's left stuck in his squid form, flattened and looking cooked, and references often being tired and thirsty. Look at this guy. Unauthorized fucking thing blow it up now
(Also a normal inkling squid form for reference. Dude is dried the fuck up)
Anyway if you got this far, thank u for absorbing the information :] once again sorry for failing to be funnie </3 if this poll or these explanations made you want to check out the series, i recommend watching a longplay on youtube. Unless you have a wii u you cant play Splatoon 1, and Splatoon 2 and 3 are both $60 (and the Octo Expansion in Splat2 is an extra $20) and i know nobody wants to spend that money lmfao. But theres a wealth of information on youtube and Inkipedia and even here on tumblr!
Happy splatting and stay squiddy <3
getting inspired by all these polls so
Dont vote if you know the answer!!!! I wanna see what non splooners think :3 also maybe reblog to get this out there???

i dont feel like making my usual posts about legends of tomorrow 6.03 “the ex-factor” and 6.04 “bay of squids” so i’m just gonna do bullet points
6.03:
i still love constantine and zari together but im getting a little tired of seeing them making out with each other. its like ok we get it i just dont need to see it. really funny when behrad came in with his hand over his eyes. me too dude. i did really like their sort of vibe of how they both do have feelings for each other but just aren’t going to admit it. what i didn’t like so much was the melodrama that followed, with constantine feeling hurt that zari told her mother what they had wasn’t serious. and then him telling her that he does want a serious relationship with her. it just didn’t feel like constantine, to be honest. i think that a lot of the fun of constantine’s character is that he will never really change for the better - in that way he’s very suited to comic books, where the status quo tends to prevail and there’s no guarantee character development will last longer than a particular run. but legends of tomorrow doesn’t want a static character like that, so they are changing him in this way. it’s fine, it’s sweet to see, but it’s not what i love about constantine
zari having to deal with her mom trying to set her up with various persian guys and get her married hit close to home for me LOL. hasnt happened to me personally but i have plenty of friends & relatives who have to deal with that and it sucks
i liked seeing zari shift back into superstar mode and i also liked that they showed a hijabi girl as one of the fans squealing over her. i just thought that was a nice allusion to how zari would be such an icon for lots of muslim girls. it sort of complicates constantine’s assumption that zari’s influencer content has no real value for the fans and is just a way to sell them stuff
nate & behrad giving constantine a makeover was really funny
i liked when zari called ava by a nickname. they are besties!!!! i need to see more bestie moments with them
i liked how for zari’s first song the audio was super flawless as though she had recorded the song beforehand and was just lip synching but for her later song you can kind of hear the more crackly live quality with the microphone. good way to make that second one feel more raw and real. it was a really adorable duet i gotta say :p
i thought the overall plot with the alien trying to invade and the legends having to defeat him through song was hilarious. and when he opened his suit and he was just a little guy. and mick STEPPED on him and KILLED him. so silly love this show
i liked seeing how mick was having a rough time dealing with sara’s absence. because he feels like she’s the only one who understands him and without her he feels defeated and aimless. it’s totally opposite to how ava is dealing with sara’s absence, which is to exhaust every possible option to find her because if she stops to consider the possibility that it might be hopeless then it will break her. nice to see spooner getting through to mick, seems like they could become good friends
almost forgot to talk about gary and sara. gary is omnisexual bc he is omnomnoming people. so glad that sara could tell that the ava she encountered was not her ava
6.04:
it’s soooo funny to me that phil klemmer wrote this episode himself. i feel like it’s been forever that he wrote an episode. i’m sure he was like pleeeease let me write this one and the writers room was like uh sure phil. it has all those historical references that you assume someone like him who’s into history would love
the episode is also just kind of like....farcical in a way that i find really hilarious. like the cuban missile crisis was obviously very serious at the time but i feel like the extremely high tension of this situation makes the humor land all the better. i like how the legends’ deceptions and subterfuge sort of mirror the political games being played between the various nations involved in this event. and the miscommunications like mick and spooner delivering a nuclear missile to castro when they definitely should not have done that
nate and zari storyline was fine, not my favorite, but i can see how it would make sense to have this storyline where they figure out how to be friends even though zari looks like nate’s ex. the football stuff was a bit silly but that’s okay. it’s legends it’s allowed to be silly
i thought mick’s trajectory in this episode was good. how he starts out so serious and then when it doesn’t work out he reverts back to his apathetic drunk self but then he is the key to finding a way to sara even though it means kicking everyone else off the waverider to hang out with this alien lady. i still think mick is gay but i’m okay with alien lady as a love interest for him. i mean the inherent queerness of alien fucking and all that
ava’s fake russian accent was so silly

25 Best Sports TV Shows
https://www.denofgeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/TV-High-School-Travel-Guides.png?resize=400%2C400
Sports stories have traditionally belonged to the movies. Something about the rhythms of competition, in which an athlete or team trains, plays, and then either wins or loses, is a natural fit for the film world’s three act structure.
Television, with its multiple episodes and seasons, is often more discursive and therefore less viable for truly great sports stories. Thankfully, that all seems poised to change. While some sports TV shows have found success in the past, now the medium has really kicked things up a notch. Sports stories like Brockmire, Ted Lasso, Cobra Kai, and more are not only welcome on television, but an essential part of the cable and streaming landscape.

The Best Sports Documentaries To Stream
By Scott Fontana and 2 others
With that in mind, it’s high time we pay homage to TV’s great sports programs. What follows is a list of 25 of the best sports TV shows of all time, hand selected by Den of Geek (i.e. me: the arms-crossed weirdo in the picture at the bottom of this article).
It’s important to keep in mind that these are the best scripted sports TV shows. Television is, of course, no stranger to live sports and the various programs that surround them. Consider these unscripted American sports shows as honorable mentions: Hard Knocks, Last Chance U, Ken Burns’ Baseball, The Last Dance (and most other 30-for-30s), Cheer, Inside the NBA.
Enough of the undercard, now onto the main event.
25. Red Oaks
Amazon Prime’s Red Oaks examines the bougie tennis lifestyle of the 1980s. It all comes through the lens of David Myers (Craig Roberts), a college student looking to pick up some cash by taking a summer job at an upscale Jewish country club in New Jersey. Sports stories and coming-of-age stories fit particularly well because the end goal of each one is usually growth. It’s hard to say whether David grows during his time at Red Oaks, but he certainly changes over the series’ three seasons.
24. The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers
A TV show based on Disney sports movie behemoth franchise The Mighty Ducks was all but an inevitability, particularly when the major conglomerate secured its own streamer in Disney+. We’re all lucky then that The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers turned out to be quite good rather than completely perfunctory. The show is bold enough to recast its Ducks’ franchise as the villains and to rally around the radical idea that youth sports should be fun.
23. One Tree Hill
At first glance, One Tree Hill doesn’t seem too different from the other teen shows of its era on The CW (though The CW was still “The WB” for One Tree Hill’s first two seasons). It’s about high schoolers in a small town, doing high school things. Where One Tree Hill excels (at least in its early, still high school seasons) is the introduction of basketball as a storytelling crutch. Half brothers Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) have a turbulent enough relationship to begin with. What better way to contextualize that relationship than through the high stakes lens of high school basketball?
22. Lights Out
Not to be confused with the 2016 horror film of the same name, Lights Out is a boxing series from FX that ran for one excellent season in 2011. Holt McCallany (best known now as Agent Bill Tench on Mindhunter) stars as retired heavyweight champion Patrick “Lights” Leary. Despite displaying signs of neurological trauma from his career, Lights can’t help but want to return to the ring for one more shot of glory (and to pay off his family’s many debts). Lights Out is a sad, elegiac little story about how one man who sees a sport that broke his brain as the only realistic option for success.
21. Big Shot
Big Shot premiered shortly after its bigger-named Disney+ cousin The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. And while Game Changers made a slightly bigger splash, Big Shot might be the better sports show. The story follows Marvyn Korn (John Stamos), a tempermental basketball coach who ends up at an elite all-girls prep school to shepherd its basketball program. Big Shot runs through all the tried and true tropes and beats of sports stories and does so with aplomb. Consider it Hardball meets Hoosiers with plenty of Stamos charm.
20. Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper
Sports are somewhat incidental to Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper’s mission. Sure, lead character Mr. Cooper (Mark Curry) is a former Golden State Warriors basketball player turned PE teacher. But like its TGIF programming block peers, this show is a charming hangout comedy with few lasting conflicts to speak of. Still, you don’t spend that much time in a gym without some three-pointers and lay-ups.
19. Coach
Before Craig T. Nelson was Mr. Incredible (or made this truly amazing televised statement), he was best known for portraying the title role in ‘90s ABC sitcom Coach. In fact, many of our archetypical perceptions of what makes a football coach likely come from Nelson’s portrayal of Coach Hayden Fox (who first coached for a fictional NCAA football team and later an NFL one). This is a man whose skill at molding young athletes belies his lack of skill at…well, everything else. Ultimately, Coach is a worthwhile multiseason experience in which a grown man grows up.
18. Kingdom
Kingdom is probably the best sports TV show that you’ve never heard of. Don’t worry, it’s not your fault. That’s just the kind of thing that happens when a show is damned to languish on AT&T’s ludicrous “Audience Network”. Kingdom is set in an MMA gym and captures all the drama provided in the heightened world of mixed martial arts combat. The show is blessed with some great characters and an even better cast. Frank Grillo (Captain America’s most annoying foe, Brock Rumlow), Kiele Sanchez (Lost), Matt Lauria (Friday Night Lights), Jonathan Tucker, (Justified) and Nick Jonas (yes, that Nick Jonas) all make their mark on the series.
17. The White Shadow
Premiering in 1978, CBS’s The White Shadow was uncommonly progressive for its time. The series follows Ken Reeves (Ken Howard), a white NBA player who retires after a knee injury and elects to take up coaching at Carver High School in South Central Los Angeles. Coach Reeves’s team is made up primarily of Black and Hispanic players and the show deals with the social ills of life in the inner city. It’s also quite funny and charming and features a commitment to realistic basketball scenes.
16. The League
FX comedy The League works as a sports show (and as a TV show in general) because it has a deep understanding of sports from a fan’s perspective. Sure, fans watch collegiate and professional sports to marvel at the athleticism, training, and skill on display. But more importantly, they watch sports to have something to talk about with their friends. Though the participants in the titular fantasy football league at the center of The League grew up as friends, who’s to say they would have stayed friends so long without this league keeping them together? Ruxin (Nick Kroll) is an asshole. Andre (Paul Scheer) is annoying. And Taco (Jon Lajoie) is, well…Taco.
15. Rocket Power
If the ‘90s taught us anything it’s that extreme sports are sports too, man! Rocket Power is a lovely little slice of life Nick Toon that follows four kids in a fictional California surfing community. Otto Rocket, Reggie Rocket, Maurice “Twister” Rodriguez, and Sam “Squid” Dullard spend their days skateboarding, surfing, playing street hockey, and occasionally snowboarding. It’s a wonderful ode to childhood and all the athletic activities that make the day (and years) go by far too quickly.
14. Luck
If things shook out differently, perhaps Luck could have been considered one of the five or so best sports shows of all time. All of the pieces were in place. This 2012 HBO series had the right creative team (created and run by Deadwood’s David Milch and starring Dustin Hoffman with a pilot directed by Michael Mann) to go along with an intriguing premise (complicated characters’ lives intersecting at a horse track). But alas…the dead horses. Oh so many dead horses. Despite stringent safety measures put in place, Luck lost three hoof bois during filming of its first season and was canceled shortly thereafter. May they all rest in peace.
13. All American
High school is a turbulent time in all our lives. And when the high stakes world of competitive football is added in, things can only get more intense. The CW’s All American opts to take the world of high school football and opts to add in a welcome dose of sociopolitical commentary. This series is loosely based on the life of former New York Giants linebacker Spencer Paysinger and follows his character “Spencer James” as he is recruited from South L.A. to play for the affluent Beverly Hills High. The show wisely understands that sports (particularly when they involve Black teenagers) are a marvelous portal to explore American society.
12. Pitch
Cruelly cut short after just one season of 10 episodes, Pitch is the kind of sports show that will inspire sports stories for years to come. This baseball series for Fox comes from Dan Fogelman (This Is Us) and Rick Singer. It follows the saga of Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury), who becomes the first woman to play in Major League Baseball when she’s called up to pitch by the San Diego Padres. Pitch was blessed with an excellent cast including Bunbury and Mark-Paul Gosselaar as a veteran catcher nearing the end of his Hall of Fame career. More interestingly, it was blessed with an actual MLB licensing deal. There are no silly fictional teams in this show like the Tuscaloosa Barn-Burners or the Helena Hellcats. It’s all real MLB team names and logos, adding to the realism of a cool premise.
11. Ballers
Of course, Elizabeth Warren’s favorite show has to be on this list. Ballers has a bit of an unearned reputation for being cringe thanks to its ridiculous name and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s delightful cornball energy. In reality, this is an exceedingly watchable TV show and one that examines the corporate side of professional sports quite well. It’s also noticeable for being most viewers’ introduction to eventual Tenet star John David Washington.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
10. GLOW
Is professional wrestling a sport? Vince McMahon would argue that it’s “sports entertainment.” I would argue that that’s more than good enough to get the excellent GLOW on this list. GLOW tragically fell victim to Netflix’s whimsical cancellation procedures. Why the almighty algorithm decided a show needed to be canceled after it was already renewed is beyond me. But don’t let that sour three seasons of superb sportsy storytelling. GLOW follows the fictionalized rise of the very real “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” and it centers it on the conflict between two former best friends, Ruther Wilder (Alison Brie) and Debbie Eagen (Betty Gilpin). GLOW differs a bit from the usual sports fare in that the “sport” at its center wasn’t necessarily plan A for the athletes. But the experience of watching the ladies train, grow, and succeed is pure and sublime sports story stuff.
9. Cobra Kai
Cobra Kai absolutely could have been phoned in. The streaming world runs on nostalgia and there’s nothing more sweetly nostalgic than The Karate Kid franchise. Instead, this Netflix series changes the original franchise’s perspective by focusing on the “villainous” Cobra Kai dojo and re-examines things from Johnny’s point of view. Ralph Macchio and William Zabka deserve credit for embodying realistically adult, yet flawed versions of their original characters. Equally deserving of credit though is a whole host of young actors bringing the martial arts to a whole new generation.
8. Blue Mountain State
A lot of the shows on this list are, let’s say, reverential to the sports, teams, and athletes they cover. Spike comedy Blue Mountain State is decidedly…not. This series, following the Mountain Goats football team for the fictional college Blue Mountain State, understands that not all depictions of athletes have to be saints. Sometimes college football player can just be the big dumb animals you want them to be. Through three seasons, this show developed a cult following that would follow it over for a lifetime of reruns on Netflix. Blue Mountain State is crass, dangerous, and entertaining, not entirely unlike football.
7. Sports Night
Speaking of being reverential to sports…like all Aaron Sorkin-created TV series, Sports Night can be a bit full of itself sometimes. That only works when the topic at hand, like the federal branch of the U.S. government, is consequential. Thankfully, sports can be pretty important sometimes too! This late ‘90s show follows the goings-on at a Sportscenter-esque news program hosted by Dan Rydell (Josh Charles) and Casey McCall (Peter Krause). It has all the witty dialogue you’d come to expect from a Sorkin venture. And if you can make your way through the inexplicable laugh track of the early episodes, you will find a mature, entertaining show that properly understands and contextualizes professional sports’ role in American society.
6. Survivor’s Remorse
Survivor’s Remorse came into the world with two strikes against it. One is a bizarrely overwrought name, and the other is that its home network, Starz, isn’t a given on many cable packages. Still, this LeBron James-produced comedy is shockingly one of the best sports TV shows ever (and perhaps still the best creative venture James has been involved in yet). This story follows NBA athlete Cam Calloway (Jessie T. Usher) as he tries to balance the business and basketball aspects of his life. At first the show focuses on Cam’s guilt for having got out of his impoverished neighborhood when so many couldn’t (hence, the show’s title), but ultimately it evolves into a family comedy drama featuring some truly remarkable characters and performances like Cam’s cousin and manager Reggie Vaughn (RonReaco Lee) and his baller half-sister “M-Chuck” (Erica Ash). Even Monica Rambeau herself, Teyonah Parris, is a part of the proceedings.
5. Playmakers
Sometimes I can’t even believe that Playmakers is real. Surely, this ESPN series about a fictional football team in a fictional league that is clearly the NFL was just a post-9/11 fever dream we all endured together. Alas, Playmakers was real and it was awesome. This series follows the players on the Cougars as they navigate a football landscape filled with ripped-from-the-headlines strife including Performance enhancing drugs, good old-fashioned drugs, domestic abuse, concussions, and more. The series even introduces the outing of a gay player more than a decade before Michael Sam and Carl Nassib revealed their sexual orientations. Naturally, Playmakers was canceled when the NFL intimated to its broadcast partner ESPN that it wasn’t too pleased with the content of its show. And enraging the National Football League alone is enough to make this an all-time classic.
4. Eastbound & Down
Eastbound & Down creator and star Danny McBride isn’t necessarily a huge fan of baseball. But he is, thankfully, a huge fan of weirdos and creeps. When McBride discovered just how bizarre and poorly behaved certain flamethrowing relief pitchers could be, Kenny Powers and the show around him was born. The baseball “action” in Eastbound isn’t much to write home about. The show isn’t too concerned with the results of any given baseball game and McBride always looks like he’s throwing a javelin and not a baseball. It’s still a phenomenal saga about athletes that dives into Paul Bunyan-esque tales of legendary misbehavior that fame encourages. It’s no coincidence that in the follow ups to Kenny Powers, McBride has delved into megalomaniacal vice principals and bejeweled, sweaty televangelists – all different aspects of the white American male id.
3. Ted Lasso
Of all the sports shows in the TV canon, none feels more like a traditional sports movie than Ted Lasso. This Apple TV+ series plucks an American football coach-fish and gently places him out of water in the English Premier League. The affable Lasso (Sudeikis) is charged with reversing the fortunes of EPL side AFC Richmond. Little does he know, however, that spiteful owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddington) is counting on him to fail, Major League style. Ted Lasso isn’t interested in reinventing the wheel. Instead it perfects it. This is a tale of relentless optimism and unconditional positive regard. Ted breaks the mold for what we expect from coaches, which is probably why so many actual coaches are fond of the show. Simply put: sports stories can’t be done much better than this one.
2. Brockmire
Sometimes commentators like to bemoan the modern state of baseball. What was once American’s pastime has now supposedly fallen behind things like football and videogames in the pop cultural pecking order. Then along comes something like Brockmire to teach us that baseball as a continuous, seemingly eternal American presence is just as vital as ever. In a career-defining role, Hank Azaria plays disgraced baseball broadcaster Jim Brockmire. Once at the top of his game, an on-air drunken meltdown loses him his job and his sanity. In season 1 of this superb IFC show, Brockmire returns to the booth, this time for an independent league team in Morristown, Pennsylvania. The four seasons that follow are one big love letter to not only baseball, but the messy human experience itself. It’s rare that you get something this funny and this affecting. The fact that it’s wrapped in a stylish diamond-shaped bow is just icing on the cake.
1. Friday Night Lights
Not only is Friday Night Lights the best sports TV show of all time, it’s hard to imagine it ever being supplanted from its throne. Simply put, Friday Night Lights is a sports television masterpiece. Each of Friday Night Lights’ five seasons (save for the writer’s strike-shortened second) fully capture the ecstasy and agony of high school football in a small Texas town where high school football is the only thing that matters. Friday Night Lights doesn’t shy away from the unsavory institution that is big time high school athletics.
The series opens with a life-changing injury before following it up with tales of corrupt boosters and garden variety West Texas racism. And yet, the show never looks down on its characters. If winning state is important to Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler), Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford), Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch), Smash Williams (Gaius Charles), and Vince Howard (Michael B. Jordan), then it’s important to us too. In fact, when Friday Night Lights is really rolling and the W.G. Snuffy Walden’s Explosions in the Sky-style soundtrack is swirling, you might not recall anything ever mattering to you as much as the Dillon Panthers or the East Dillon Lions winning a football game. Clear eyes, full hearts, absolutely cannot lose.

5e Illaoi, the Kraken Priestess build (League of Legends)
(Artwork by Riot Games)
I’ll take “Champions Everyone Hates” for $300, Larry!
Jokes aside Illaoi was a beyond obvious build with all the Unearthed Arcana subclasses being shown off. With Tasha’s Cauldron on the horizon and recent news that Illaoi is actually getting another skin it only makes sense to make a build for her.
But this is also an opportunity to make something interesting. In particular I see a lot of people online saying that the only viable melee Warlock is Hexblade, and while the Hexblade subclass certainly makes creating a melee Warlock easier it isn’t the only path you can choose. So to prove that you can play other Warlocks with a big ball to slam people with here’s a more melee focused Warlock build!
GOALS
Sheeyutu Nagakabouros - So Illaoi needs tentacles. What? Lurker in the Deep Warlock? I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Broken bones teach better lessons - Illaoi is a buff lady and I want her to crush my head between her thighs... What? Uhhh STRENGTH BUILD TIME!
Many gods ask for worship; they are weak gods - Probably the only hard part about this build is going to be ripping people’s souls out of their body... Good thing I’m honestly probably not going to do that and simply reflavor some stuff.
RACE
League of Legends has its gods and monsters, but the majority of the characters are human. Variant Humans get to start with a little bit more than the average human, but let’s get the normal things out of the way first: increase your Strength and Charisma by 1 to break bones more easily and to find more people who want you to break their bones. You also get a proficiency in a skill of your choice such as Athletics to lug a giant Kraken god head statue around all day, and a language of your choice like Deep Speech to speak to your god through your statue.
But most importantly you get a free Feat, and unfortunately this is a case of me being forced to stick feats into this build for the sake of aesthetic. Illaoi doesn’t wear armor in-game but I could make the argument that her massive arm pauldrons and general outfit could be seen as Medium armor. So even though you could get Heavy Armor “proficiency” thanks to the Eldritch Armor Invocation from the Class Feature Variants UA I’m instead going to suggest taking the Moderately Armored Feat for Medium Armor proficiency and +1 to your Strength score. Feel free to take something like Great Weapon Master instead if you’re okay with actually wearing Heavy Armor at the cost of an invocation.
ABILITY SCORES
15; STRENGTH - Eat your heart out The Last of Us 2 haters. (BTW screw everyone who’s been harassing Laura Bailey on Twitter. I know this is old news but still.)
14; DEXTERITY - Something something Medium Armor, even if Heavy Armor is an option.
13; CHARISMA - Ultimately this is a requirement for the class we’ll have to be playing, but I’m sure there’s a reason this tentacle-lover keeps showing up to ruin my soloqueue games.
12; CONSTITUTION - Illaoi is a tank in-game and while I’d love this to be higher unfortunately we need other things more.
10; WISDOM - Illaoi has knowledge of the old gods which I’d personally consider to be more Wisdom based than Intelligence.
8; INTELLIGENCE - Signing yourself off to be the priestess of some deep sea Cthulhu monster isn’t something you do when you have a high GPA.
BACKGROUND
Fun fact: you can be a priest and not be a Cleric! The Acolyte background lets you grant your service to a god, even if that god isn’t commonly accepted. You gain some Religion proficiency as well as general Insight, as well as two languages of your choice like Abyssal and Primordial to speak to all the ancient beings of Bilgewater.
Your feature Shelter of the Faithful will be a... little odd for your DM to implement. There are few temples to Nagakabouros, but if you can find followers of the Bearded Lady they will provide shelter for you and your allies, and also support you (and you alone) as their Priestess. But regardless you will still be able to find your people in your hometown, and will be able to perform sermons for your god. Even if those sermons involve cracking skulls.

THE BUILD
LEVEL 1 - WARLOCK 1
Did you enjoy seeing the word “Fighter” a lot in my Garen build? Well you’d better be ready to see a whole lot of “Warlock” in this one. As a Warlock you get two proficiencies from the Warlock skill list so learn about the History of Nagakabouros and also take Intimidation proficiency because I’m pretty fucking intimidated when an Illaoi comes into my lane if you know what I’m saying.
But unlike most classes Warlocks get to choose their subclass at level 1 and low-and-behold we’ll be going with the Lurker in the Deep Unearthed Arcana Patron which will soon be appearing in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. One may ask why I didn’t wait for that book to come out to which I reply “I need to make content.” Regardless you get Scion of the Deep at level 1 to communicate telepathically with (almost) any creature that has an innate swimming speed that’s within 120 feet of you. The creature can understand you regardless of your shared languages and can respond telepathically. Look all I’m saying is that you’ve gotta be able to talk with Nami somehow.
But of course what you’re really here for is Grasp of the Deep. As a bonus action you create a tentacle at a point you can see within 60 feet of you. The tentacle lasts for 1 minute or until you make another tentacle. When you create the tentacle, you can make a melee spell attack against a creature within 10 feet of it. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 cold or lightning damage (your choice when it takes the damage) and its speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. You can also move the tentacle up to 30 feet as a bonus action on your turn and repeat the attack with said bonus action. You can summon the tentacle a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Yes I did just copy-paste the description of the ability because it’s a lot of words to say something very simple: make tentacle in 60 feet, slam people with bonus action, move it up to 30 feet per round.
But unlike in League you get more than just tentacles at level 1! You also have access to Pact Magic! You can learn two cantrips from the Warlock list: Lightning Lure lets you pull your opponent’s not-quite-soul closer towards you, and Eldritch Blast is an Eldritch Blast that lets you Eldritch Blast; I’m not going to pretend you don’t know what this cantrip is.
You also get two spells from the Warlock list and now it’s time to just take any spell that has the name “Hadar” in it. Arms of Hadar lets you strike everyone near you with tentacles; isn’t it fun to get your ultimate at level 1? For some sort-of Soul Stealing action I’m actually going to recommend Witch Bolt: after hitting an enemy with the spell you can keep hitting them from a distance and they can’t do anything about it! Truthfully though there are a lot of really great spells for this build at first level and I’m sad I can’t list them all, so if you don’t like my spell picks try out:
Hellish Rebuke (Thornmail)
Hex
Protection from Evil and Good
Thunderwave (Subclass-specific spell, otherwise known as “better Arms of Hadar that aren’t tentacles so they’re actually worse)
Yeah level 1 is always overloaded.
LEVEL 2 - WARLOCK 2
Second level Warlocks get access to Eldritch Invocations to improve their abilities, and you know what we still need? A proper ability to rip out people’s souls. Shame we won’t get that, but Grasp of Hadar will pull them closer and Lance of Lethargy will slow them for trying to escape their Test of Spirit. These invocations do stack (IE there’s no rule saying you can’t apply both at once) so you can theoretically pull someone 10 feet closer to you and make them 10 feet slower, resulting in 20 total feet of distance you’re gaining on them.
You can also learn another spell at this level and while there are plenty of good ones I’m going to suggest some Thornmail, or rather Armor of Agathys. The spell doesn’t require Concentration, gives you some bulk, and makes enemies think twice about hitting you. And it scales well too!
LEVEL 3 - WARLOCK 3
So how about we get something big to bonk our enemies with? Hello Pact of the Blade! In short you make a weapon in your hands to fight with, and I’d argue that a Maul is probably the closest to a big two-handed bludgeoning weapon.
I should mention that technically you need the Improved Pact Weapon invocation to be able to cast spells while you have a weapon in two hands, but you can get around this by using a component pouch instead of a focus. (And Illaoi seems the type to cast with squid organs.)
Oh and you can learn second level spells now! Spells like Earthbind to make sure your foes don’t take to the sky to escape the wrath of the ocean.
LEVEL 4 - WARLOCK 4
4th level Warlocks get an Ability Score Improvement so it’s time to invest in your main stat: Strength! What was that? Charisma? No no silly Warlocks use Strength obviously, so put +2 into that.
You also learn another spell at this level, and another cantrip! For your cantrip Mage Hand will let you summon a little tentacle for you to grab smaller things at a distance. As for leveled spells Ray of Enfeeblement will let you pack Exhaust for your foes, reducing their attack damage. It’s a bit of a dirty trick but Nagakabouros doesn’t fight fair.
(Artwork by ERDJIE on DeviantArt)
LEVEL 5 - WARLOCK 5
5th level Warlocks get another Invocation so guess what we’re taking? Yup: Eldritch Smite, pretty much a given whenever I make a Pact of the Blade build. This will let you slam your foes so hard that they fall over! I’m also going to suggest you replace Lance of Lethargy with Thirsting Blade, as by this point Grasp of Hadar is already pulling them close enough thanks to two Eldritch Blasts per turn.
You can also learn another spell at this level and remember when I said we’d take any spell with the name “Hadar” in the title? Hunger of Hadar lets you make an area pitch black and summon a bunch of tentacles in that area. Basically Hadar is this world’s Nagakabouros. "Bearded Lady, Nagakabouros, names don't matter! Action does."
LEVEL 6 - WARLOCK 6
At 6th level your tentacles finally have some lifesteal! And by lifesteal I mean defensive properties. Guardian Grasp lets you use your reaction to make a tentacle shield an ally from a hit, reduce the damage they would’ve taken from an attack by half. The tentacle can shield any ally within 10 feet of it, and it disappears after defending them. Note that this works for spells too, so if someone’s having their soul ripped out of them you can use your abilities to pull it right back in!
Additionally your servitude to the Bearded Lady grants you a Fathomless Soul for the ability to breathe underwater, a swimming speed, and resistance to Cold damage.
And finally you can learn another spell like the Unearthed Arcana spell Spirit Shroud. This spell will let you slow enemies that are near you and also do extra damage.
LEVEL 7 - WARLOCK 7
7th level Warlocks get another Invocation but there’s nothing that particularly interests me. May as well get Devil’s Sight in case you’re playing against a Nocturne.
You can also learn another spell at this level and hey look more tentacles! Evard’s Black Tentacles is a subclass-specific spell that makes tentacles that can hold people down!
LEVEL 8 - WARLOCK 8
8th level Warlocks get another Ability Score Improvement: increase your Strength by 1 and your Constitution by 1, as those are your two main stats as a Warlock. Definitely.
You can also add another spell to your list, and while there are plenty of great choices I’d opt to rid yourself of the unworthy with Banishment.
(Artwork by Diazex on DeviantArt)
LEVEL 9 - WARLOCK 9
9th level Warlocks get access to another Eldritch Invocation, but again none of these are that particularly interesting so I suppose you could grab Otherworldly Leap for the Jump spell at will?
But you get access to another spell and if you need guidance from Nagakabouros then Commune with Nature will let you gather information to aid you to spread your faith.
Now (or ideally sometime before) would also probably be a good time to replace a lot of your old spells, so depending on your DM here’s some spells you should probably swap out, and what they should be swapped to:
Arms of Hadar (RIP tentacles) with Vampiric Touch (3rd level) for some lifesteal. (Enervation at the 5th level is also a decent alternative that works at range.)
Witch Bolt with Dimension Door (4th level) for a Teleport back to lane.
Earthbind with Synaptic Static (5th level) for a Leap of Faith against your foes. (By that I mean it’s my build and I like this spell.)
Ray of Enfeeblement with Cone of Cold (5th level) for another powerful AoE spell in a teamfight.
LEVEL 10 - WARLOCK 10
At 10th level Lurker in the Deep Warlocks can feed their god’s Devouring Maw. As an action you can create a 10 foot radius sphere centered on a point you can see within 60 feet. Each creature in that area must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be restrained. And then: teeth... this feels like Pyke’s thing. Regardless any creature that starts its turn in the area takes 3d6 cold / lightning damage (your choice.)
Restrained creature can try to get out on their action, and at the start of your turn if anyone is in the area you gain temporary hit points equal to your Warlock level. You can use this ability once per short or long rest, so essentially consider it like an extra spell that’s exclusive to you and your faith.
Speaking of extra spells you don’t get another spell known but your tentacles do more damage now: 2d8 to be exact. You also get another cantrip: Minor Illusion will let you summon more small ghost tentacles, except these ones don’t do anything except for fool the enemy into thinking they’ll have a fun laning phase.
LEVEL 11 - WARLOCK 11
11th level Warlocks get their 6th level Mystic Arcanum, which is a spell you can only use once per Long Rest. Basically it’s a regular spell slot, unlike your Warlock slots which come back on a short rest. Unfortunately there really aren’t a lot of Mystic Arcanum options, and the ones at level 6 aren’t spectacular. Circle of Death is probably the best even if the lore is a little iffy.
You can also add another Pact Magic spell to your list: many say that a Dream is a window into one’s soul, so messing with people’s dreams only makes sense for you to test their souls. Oh and you get a third spell slot for your Pact Magic! Yay!
LEVEL 12 - WARLOCK 12
12th level Warlocks get an Ability Score Improvement but I’m going to instead suggest the Resilient feat for Constitution, increasing your CON to a 14 and giving you proficiency in CON saves. Constitution is one of your main stats as a Warlock after all!
You also get another Eldritch Invocation and now it’s finally time for an invocation we will keep! Lifedrinker will let you add your Charisma modifier as damage to your weapon attacks. I know it’s such a weird thing for Warlocks to have since they rarely use Charisma, but it’s still useful!
(Artwork by sharrm on DeviantArt)
LEVEL 13 - WARLOCK 13
At level 13 you get your 7th level Mystic Arcanum. To test weak souls Power Word Pain will see how much they can take before they reach their limit. If a target is at 100 HP or less they are affected by crippling pain. Their speed can be no higher than 10 feet, they have disadvantage on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws (other than CON saves), and if the target tries to cast a spell, it must first succeed on a Constitution saving throw, or the casting fails and the spell is wasted.
A target suffering this pain can make a Constitution saving throw at the end of each of its turns. On a successful save, the pain ends. While this may seem weak this doesn’t require your concentration, and can set up for all your allies to break the nonbelievers.
You can also add another Pact Magic spell to your list like Elemental Bane. Here’s the trick: pick a damage type of your tentacles that your allies are also doing. This will make both them and your tentacles stronger!
LEVEL 14 - WARLOCK 14
14th level Lurker in the Deep Warlocks get their final ability, Unleash the Depths. As an action, you choose a point within 30 feet of you to summon a manifestation of Nagakabouros. You then have one of two options:
Transport. You and up to five willing creatures of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of the manifestation point are grasped by spectral tentacles and teleported to a point of your choice within 100 miles that you have visited within the past 24 hours.
Fury. You can direct a barrage of spectral tentacles to strike up to five creatures you can see within 30 feet of the manifestation point. Each target must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, the creature takes 6d10 cold or lightning damage (your choice) and is knocked prone. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage and is not knocked prone. The tentacles then vanish.
You can only do this once per Long Rest, so you can essentially consider it another Mystic Arcanum of sorts.
LEVEL 15 - WARLOCK 15
15th level Warlocks get their 8th level Mystic Arcanum and to truly test one’s faith try Feeblemind. You choose a target to damage and force them to make an Intelligence save: if they fail their Intelligence and Charisma become 1 and they become unable to do most things that require thinking. (Detailed in the spell.) This spell lasts for thirty days unless healed by a specific spell, afterwards they can try to repeat the save.
But more importantly you get some more Invocations and sweet Bearded Lady we can finally get some good ones! Grab Witch Sight to know the truth behind one’s soul.
And you get one more Pact Magic spell like Sickening Radiance to exhaust the spirit... because it causes Exhaustion... the D&D status not the LoL Summoner Spell.
LEVEL 16 - WARLOCK 16
16th level means an Ability Score Improvement so it’s finally time to stop beating around the bush: get more Charisma so Lifedrinker is better. There really isn’t much other use for it.
(Artwork by Riot Games)
LEVEL 17 - WARLOCK 17
At 17th level you get your 9th level Mystic Arcanum; the strongest spell you can cast! When a soul is too weak to fight it must die: Power Word Kill will instantly kill a target with 100 health or less.
In addition you learn more Pact Magic: by this point your foes should truly Fear you (and the fact that I’m not allowed to take any spell that creates undead.) Yes most enemies by this point can resist fears, but on the bright side you finally have four spell slots for your other spells! (Or Smites.)
LEVEL 18 - WARLOCK 18
18th level Warlocks get their final Eldritch Invocation: Visions of Distant Realms will let you use the vision of the Bearded Lady to see across all of Runeterra... or at least as far as Arcane Eye lets you.
LEVEL 19 - WARLOCK 19
19th level Warlocks get our final Ability Score Improvement and yeah: Charisma for Lifedrinker... among other things.
And you get your final Pact Magic spell: take Hold Monster as the final option to keep an enemy down as you beat them into shape.
LEVEL 20 - WARLOCK 20
20th level Warlocks are Eldritch Masters. You can spend 1 minute praying to regain all your expended Pact Magic slots. Once you regain spell slots with this feature, you must finish a long rest before you can do so again.
...I mean yeah you could just spend an hour to Short Rest, but being able to get 4 more 5th level spell slots in just a minute could be useful! ...Maybe...
FINAL BUILD
PROS
They need wisdom; they don't need teeth - Even though you only have two attacks as a “casting” class you do plenty of damage thanks to Lifedrinker and your tentacles. (Assuming you’re using a Maul) you’re doing 4d6 + 10 bludgeoning, an extra 8 necrotic, and an extra 2d8 of Lightning or Cold damage with your Bonus Action. If you take the averages of those numbers you’re going to be doing about 44 damage per turn! Not to mention Eldritch Smites to truly break their spirits!
Blessed is motion - Your AC shouldn’t be terrible with Medium Armor, but the real strength is in Guardian Grasp. Being able to reduce the damage of an attack by half is universally useful. Above-average HP (thanks to a good CON mod) definitely helps too.
I am a teacher; Bilgewater will learn - Despite your weak mental stats you have a good amount of utility with proficiency in a number of skills and spells to gather information like Arcane Eye, Commune With Nature, and Dream. Not to mention Witch Sight which will see through any illusions or shapeshifting. This means you’re a fighter who can see through invisibility!
CONS
If I hate something, I destroy it - Illaoi is a big lady, and while her physical abilities may be strong her mental capabilities are a little lacking. Your Wisdom saves are fine enough thanks to Proficiency but your Intelligence and Dexterity saves are rather subpar, and as mentioned earlier your Ability Checks aren’t going to be great thanks to your low mental.
My god is not love; it is a kick in the pants - All the memeing I did in this build aside the focus on Strength over Charisma was probably not the brightest, especially considering that the hit chance of your tentacles is based on your Charisma. See if you can get Point Buy for this build instead to max out Strength and Charisma: Medium Armor was taken more for cosmetic than anything, and Heavy Armor would probably be a better choice. And of course feel free to take Charisma ASIs early if you think you need them.
Something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens - Truthfully while 9th level spells an extra invocations are nice this build would’ve probably benefited a lot more from some Fighter or Paladin levels to get a Fighting Style and subclass features. I built this build Warlock-exclusive partially for flavor and partially to show that melee Warlocks are possible outside of Hexblade, but 5 levels into Fighter or Paladin would get you Extra Attack (so you wouldn’t need Thirsting Blade) along with other class features. And starting as Fighter or Paladin would let you take armor proficiency too, so you wouldn’t need a feat for it! (You could grab something like Great Weapon Master instead!)
But here you have it: a level 20 Warlock build, a melee Warlock that isn’t Hexblade, a devout character with no Cleric levels, a Tasha’s build before Tasha’s comes out, and a powerful melee fighter with good use of their Bonus Action and plenty of utility through spellcasting. As long as you live life to its fullest and grab every combat by the reigns then Nagakabouros shall be pleased. Test the nonbelievers and strike at the heart of corruption! For it is her way... to get camped all game by the jungler... and still get double kills.

Ok ok, small rant ahead based around this whole debacle... (nothing that bad, I'm just very passionate about this game) <( ⌓ᵕ̤) =3
Ok, so...
I'm aware that this might be considered "Just another person on the internet's opinion" But for the record, when you've been with the community for as long as the first game existed, then you'd also come to think of this silly squid game as a peice of your joy as well.
Now then, to state my thoughts on this topic abroad:
I am disappointed and utterly disgusted by the actions of saidchampionshipteamIwillnotmentionthenameofbecausetheydonotdeserveanymorepublicity
And, funny thing is: I had never even heard of them before this incident had hit the pages of the bird app. But reading up on the situation myself, and talking about it on Discord with one of my friends in the Profesh player circle. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
The Splat community is one of the most fun gaming spaces I've been apart of ever since I picked up the game. And for the love of christ I can't stress enough how this simple little shooting game had gotten me through alot of dark times. And had even helped me meet some of the sweetest and coolest people I've ever met. But hearing the news about something terrible happening within the game's fandom is...
Fuck...It's just terrible. And hurts me alot more then it should really.
I might be too emotional or something, but when you love a piece of media enough then yeah, its gonna hurt to hear something heinous about it.
Not to mention that Splatoon is used as an escape from the problems of irl for most people (me included!)
But there is always going to be a terrible thing or two that will seep into that safe space. Much like the topic discussed in the article above. Almost like ink on a page. (pun not intended)
Racism is terrible. God awful even. And to have it be anywhere near gaming just ruins gaming itself to me.
Hell, even one of the main moral's of the story with one of the idol groups, (Deepcut my beloved💙💛❤️) is that difference's shouldn't be seen as inferior by your peers. Infact, they should be celebrated by all!
Now then,
Am i saying that Splatoon community, as well as in real life, doesn't have a problem with racism?
No. Not in the slightest.
And no. I'm also not stating that Splatoon is equal to real life either.
It isn't.
I'ts a fictional game for christ sake.
But what I am trying to explain, is that this game has made many of people from different cultures, player bases, and more come together with how beloved it is.
I'm talking Artists, professional players, YouTubers, even people who haven't remotely touched the game itself but know the characters from other Nintendo media like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bro's have mentioned time and time again just how fun it looks!
It just kind of.. I dunno.. stings a little. Much more for the people who were harassed I'm certain.
But hey, that just might be me.
IDK ¯\_(▪︎_▪︎)_/¯
Frankly, I'm just surprised Mario Company did their fucking job for once.

Chapter 7
Click to read chapter 8:
He could scarcely believe what he had just done. What was he thinking?! Yes, Lance was a jerk, and deserved every single kick that was directed towards him. But if the porcupine went to the cops, what was he gonna do? Assault was a serious charge, even when you do it for the right reason. He had done it for Ash. Then why did he feel kinda jealous of Lance? Ash wasn’t his girlfriend! His mind fled to a couple days prior. That kiss. Those lips upon his’. Those arms around him. His arms around her. Why did he want to feel that again? It was wrong! They were different species, let alone their 25 year difference! His heart started to pound faster in his ribcage, and he knew it wasn’t good. He had to be nuts, right? He was just letting the porcupine’s words get to his head… He wasn’t in love with Ash, right? He entered the theatre, and was surprised with music. Going up the stairs, he found Johnny and Miss Crawly practicing the piano. He went past them as silently as he could. “Oh, hey Mr Moon.” “Hey there, Johnny. I thought you had left.” “No, I just wanted to practice some more. Is that okay?” Buster nodded, and smiled. “You go right ahead.” “Mr Moon? What’s that on your shoes?” Miss Crawly’s voice came. “Uh… Dirt. I took a different route back here, and accidentally threw the bike on this big pile of dirt and leaves. Silly me.” He laughed as normally as he could. “Did you call Meena?” “Back here, Mr Moon!” The koala jumped. Both his assistant and his gorilla competitor laughed. Buster smirked. “I’ve started collecting the glass!” “Good, good! Keep up the good work! Be with you in a minute!” He ran into his office, and closed the door and blinds. Blood. The idiot had joyfully went past town with someone else’s blood on his shoes and pants. He took off both items, and substituted them for clean ones. He just hoped that whoever saw him either mistook the stains for water or didn’t notice them at all. Throwing his suit to the couch, he rolled up his sleeves. He had a long night of work ahead of him. Several hours later, the tank was finished, and the squids had been recruited and knew exactly what to do. All there was left for him was wait. Oh, and trying to get Ash out his mind. He took off his gear, and slipped into bed, going through the day’s events. When had those thoughts even started? Lance’s words alone wouldn’t make this to him. He had went to Nana’s house, surprising Eddie at some point there, ok. He came back and told everyone the news, good. He held a full-dress rehearsal. Mike was singing to Fox Sinatra, great, he loved it. He called her on. When she got on stage, was here anything about her that froze his mind? He found that unlikely. She ran off, and he eavesdropped the cast’s conversation. He sent everybody home. Was it for her? Or was he wanting to be alone with her back there? Probably both, he figured. What is it about her that he liked? Her skills, her voice? Was it because of the danger? Society didn’t like it, he could get arrested if someone found out… Of course not. He disliked danger with all his heart. Was it merely physical? No, no way! Although he wouldn’t complain if physical contact happened. He wanted it to happen. He mentally slapped himself. As if crushing on her wasn’t already wrong enough… He drifted off into peaceful sleep, the porcupine never leaving his mind.
Meanwhile, at the good part of town, Tara knocked on the door to a fancy house. Boy, that had been a tiring day. “Tara!” Marina said, opening the door. “I thought you’d have traveled by now!” “Nah, the cast can wait.” She laughed lightly. “Just wanted to make sure your little one got here in safety. There’s monsters out here.” The boy gripped her hand tightly. She carefully ruffled his quills, smiling. “Very considerate of you! Would you like to come in? We’re having beef and baked potatoes, Maria made pudding as well! It’s what you younger folks like, right? Pudding?” Tara laughed. “I do like it, but I’m a tad bit late. This afternoon ride took longer than I expected. But thank you ma’am.” “Oh, at least take something with you! Come in! I’ll get something packed!” She sighed. “Okay, if you insist.” Not too long after, she sat at a big and fancy dining hall, having a delicious meal. Despite her protests, Marina always had a way to convince her to do things she didn’t want to. She felt out of place, despite her warm hosts. That place didn’t feel like home whatsoever. Her studio was in the bad side of town, but she loved it will all her heart. She felt truly welcomed there. Unlucky for her, things were just about to get worse. “Elbows off the table.” The small porcupine quickly did as instructed. “Sorry, ma’am.” She sighed again. If there was something in the world that she hated, it had to be rich families. Always so polite and formal, even with their kids. Adam could easily pass for a servant. His expensive and neat clothing, which didn’t really fit the weather, let alone a kid. Kids liked running and getting their clothes dirty. Despite being a girl, she enjoyed doing that. Some of the best memories she had were from the football field just across the block. Four hour, sometimes more, football matches. Dodgeball. Hide-and-seek. Even the one time Drake brought along a pellet gun and she was accidentally shot in her back. It hurt like hell, but it was a great day. They cheered her up, invented a million games they could play, and after half an hour she felt no pain anymore. The boy never had any of that. He wasn’t allowed to play, or run, or do anything that didn’t match being the heir of a great fortune and many of the richest companies around. She felt bad for Ash, having to grow up there. It must’ve been suffocating. “Is there something on your mind, dear?” She started considering if Ash’s escape wasn’t her fault, even if a tiny little bit. It was her who took Ash to her house, introduced her to all the kids in the neighborhood, and even lent her some clothes so she could play with them without being scolded by her parents when she got home. Did it start back there? Or Ash always had it in her? Time passed, and she was unrecognizable. Especially after the one party she went, just because her parents weren’t there not to allow her. How happily she talked about the boy she had met. The songs he had taught her to play in the guitar. How was she hoping to join a band. In no time, practically all elements, as Ash’s family liked calling whoever didn’t have millions in their pockets and weren’t annoyingly polite, in town knew her. She started leaving at nights to go play in concerts, all very hidden from public eye. She did that because it was fun. One day, her parents noticed she had left, and went after her. Someone had sold her out. When their parents arrived at the concert, the house went down. They threatened to call the police, had a couple bodyguards kick their way in, and dragged their daughter out of the place. “Tara?” Michael asked, a worried look on his face. She looked up. “Yes, sire?” “Is everything alright?” “Fine and dandy, Mister.” She couldn’t understand why Marina and Michael liked her. She wasn’t different from Ash at all. Both were alternative, had a passion for music, and lived a less than ideal lifestyle, despite their ridiculously rich parents. She figured it was because she wasn’t their daughter. “Ta-Ta, why you sad? We saw big sis!” Tara's eyes opened wide, her mouth hung in shock. Morbid silence. “What did you say?” “We saw big sis today! She was messing with string-thing!” The kid said, cheerfully. “Guitar.” Tara sighed. “You saw Ash?” Michael said, a bit altered. “Yes, Mr T. She was-” “I didn’t knew you still saw each other!” Marina interrupted. “We don’t! We just happened to bump into each other at the park.” “Where does she live?” “I don’t know.” She lied. “If you were meeting her out there like the best friends, of course you do!” “I have her phone!” She said, lifting her phone. “I can ask, wait a sec.”
Ash was sitting at her bed, happy at the lyrics she had just finished, but even more at the day’s events. She had seen a long time friend, got to spend some time with her little brother, and had written a melody that was sure to blow Nana away. Literally. Maybe the guitar solos were too much, but Buster had said he wanted loudness. She lifted her phone, and saw a message. It took her a while to understand what the letters meant. PRENTS GOIN OVR. LAEVE D HOUS ASAP!!!!!!!! She couldn’t believe it. Why would Tara tell her parents where she lived?! She grabbed a couple shirts that were sitting there, stuck them into her guitar case, and ran off to the theatre, carefully checking her surroundings so her parents wouldn’t see her. “Buster!!” She wasn’t going to destroy another of his windows' frames. Taking small pebbles, she threw them at the window, to try and wake the koala. “Buster!!” The frame went up. “Ash? What are you doing, you alright?” “Please open the door!” He nodded, and closed the window, quickly rushing downstairs. She had got to be kidding him. On the night he wasn’t fit to see her, because he had to find out how he felt about her, she needs a place to stay. And of course they were staying at the same bed. At the second he opened the door, she ran inside, almost breathless. “What happened?” “My parents found out…” She inhaled deeply. “Where I live. Can I stay here? Sorry, I should’ve called you.” “No no, don’t mention it. Uh…” He rubbed the back of his neck. “Make yourself at home.” “Ah. Thanks.” Going to the wings, she settled her guitar case down, and changed into an oversized shirt she had brought along. “Sorry about coming here this late at night, I didn’t knew this was gonna happen.” “It’s fine, Ash.” He assured her, giving her a sweet smile. “You’re always welcome. But listen, uh… I only have one bed, here.” “Single or double?” “Double.” He lied. “No problem, then.” “Okay… Let me get things ready.” Running upstairs, he quickly grabbed some pillows and comforters and his own mattress, turning it into a double bed. Of course they weren’t going to sleep inside of his table’s drawer. There was no space, right? And quite frankly, he wanted to be near her. “Here we go.” “Thanks, Buster.” She laid down at the bed. He nodded, and helped himself to her side, both facing the ceiling. Silence hovered over them for a while. “You don’t turn while you sleep, right?” She laughed and smacked his leg. “You don’t turn while you sleep, right? It would be a nuisance to have those ears smack against me.” He put up a fake pout, and chuckled. “Touché.” There it was. That quickened heartbeat. He was laying in bed with the girl he was crushing on, and couldn’t have been more lost. More silence. “Are you feeling better?” “Yep.” “Any calls?” She shook her head. “Not that I noticed.” Good, Buster thought. “What happened to… All glass windows, and panels from downstairs?” He chuckled. “Wanna see it? It will blow you away.” Not too long afterwards, both sat at the front row of the theatre, watching a spectacular show of lights. “Wow.” “What did I say, uh?” Ash was mesmerized by the vision. Buster brought her closer to him, and tilted his face, gently brushing one of her loose quills. The teenager sighed. “So we did… Kiss, that day?” “We did, and it was the smoochiest smooch you can think of.” He chuckled. “Sorry about that.” “I don’t mind it.” He took a deep breath. “And, if anything, I’d like to maybe… Do it again.” She looked back at him. “I know it’s weird, and uncalled for, but… Since that day I can’t get you out of my mind.” “Same.” He turned to her. “I kinda wondered if that kiss had been a dream… But dream or not, it was amazing.” “Uh. Well…” He wasn’t used to being complimented in such a way. “Thanks, I… It felt pretty good on this side too.” “What are you waiting for?” She giggled softly, covering her mouth. “What? Oh! Uh… Okay.” He swoop her in for a quick experimental kiss. Then a longer one, and an even longer one after that. Jail rushed through his mind for a moment, but he couldn’t care less. It was just him, and her, and if that meant jail then he’d take it without a complaint. Ahead of them, squids flashed red and formed a heart on the tank.

HP AU (Part 2)
(I’ll leave Aizawa’s not under the cut so you guys can see how it’s set up! Not everyone is in this, just class 1A but if you’d like the others I’d be happy to do them upon request!)
Aizawa Shouta: Patronus – Ragdoll cat. Blood Status – Half-blood. Quidditch Position – None. It didn’t interest him but he did help out others who wanted to train, and thus he has some knowledge of each position. Future Career – Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor (technically current career). It was a subject he was both knowledgeable about, being a former Auror, and taught with ease. He was big on not just attacking these dark spells, but on learning how to defend.
Aoyama Yuuga: Patronus – Peacock. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position – None. He thinks Quidditch is barbaric and would rather spend his time doing worthwhile things. Future Career – Actor. He becomes quite a famous face even among muggles, using his natural charm (with some potions perhaps) to charm the audience into loving him. He retires early and writes books about his experiences, but in the muggle version of his autobiography, his school years are an outlandish lie.
Asui Tsuyu: Patronus – Great Grey Owl. Blood Status- Muggleborn. Quidditch Position – None. She didn’t much like sports nor flying, she’d prefer staying in the grounds or doing something water-related (she’d spend afternoons chatting with Giant Squid in the lake). Future Career – Muggle Relations. Being Muggleborn makes her a pro at this, and she wishes to further the understanding between Muggles and the magical world.
Ashido Mina: Patronus – Dragonfly. Blood Status – Half-blood. Quidditch Position – Chaser. She whips around the field like she owns the place, she’s quite quick and a total menace for the other team. Future Career – Professional Quidditch player. She found she had a talent and she’s a natural on a broom, so of course she followed her heart right into the thrilling competitive sport! She loves when fans begin cheering her name in the crowd.
Bakugou Katsuki: Patronus – King Cobra. Blood Status – Half-blood. Quidditch Position – Beater. This position lets him get his anger out and the others try to avoid him like a wildfire, because they know he’ll hit them as hard as he can. He often gets fouls called on him from being a little too aggressive on the field. Future Career: Auror. He has a tendency not to listen to his superiors because he’s annoyed that they went to school together, yet somehow, he became head instead of Bakugou. His bitterness doesn’t stop him from racking up awards galore from taking down dangerous dark wizards.
Hagakure Tooru: Patronus – Chameleon. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position – Seeker. She’s pretty good on a broom, and near impossible to see, especially when flying. She works as the perfect seeker because she has a good eye for the tiny snitch, and you never know when she’s going to catch it. Future Career – Potions Professor. Her constant invisibility had made her quite infamous, and she decided her talent truly lied in teaching Potions. She’s a playful teacher who encourages her students to experiment with (safe) potions and keeps a close eye on them, though it does cause trouble for other professors.
Iida Tenya: Patronus – Cheetah. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position – Chaser. He was only a player for a few years before he became a Prefect, because he felt it necessary to hone certain skills Quidditch can give you. He wasn’t too enthusiastic about it and decided to take on extra classes instead. Future Career – Head of the Improper Use of Magic Office. He finds he’s very good with enforcing rules, and teaching younger students how to control their magic; he may seem rigid at first but he’s very understanding towards young first offenders, and doesn’t mind cleaning up their accidental magic as long as they show genuine remorse.
Jirou Kyouka: Patronus – Lioness. Blood Status – Half-Blood. Quidditch Position – None. She had been a part of frog choir since the start and their schedules overlap. Future Career – Lead Guitarist of a well-known all witch band. Kyouka has to follow her heart and decides it’s best she stay in music; she forms a band a few years after graduating and it leads to instant successes. She’ll often perform at special events for wizarding schools.
Kaminari Denki: Patronus – Field Mouse. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position – Beater. He’s gotten hit with a Bludger quite a lot of times while playing this position, but enjoys the attention and worry he gets from his cuter teammates. He eventually quits before he graduates. Future Career – Bartender in Hogsmeade. He likes to stay close to Hogwarts and still interact with the magical folk; he keeps everyone in line nicely as everyone knows his shock hex can leave you sore for weeks.
Kirishima Eijirou: Patronus – Dun Stallion. Blood Status – Half-blood. Quidditch Position – Beater. He’s got the strength and the great aim to knock people right off their brooms with the Bludger, though he always apologizes after the game, especially if he hurt them. Future Career – Auror. Battling dark wizards is what he’s wanted to do since he was young, and despite the many difficult tests that were blocking his way, he persevered and become a well-known Auror.
Kouda Kouji: Patronus – Tortoise. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position – None. He never had time, as often when he was in school he would help out the care of magical creature’s professor with taking care of the creatures, and spending time with them is eventually what led to him applying for his future position. Future Career –Care of Magical Creatures professor. He’s an absolute natural with even the most dangerous of creatures, and loves them dearly. He loves to teach other students about creatures and it helped him come out of his shell.
Midoriya Izuku: Patronus - Occamy. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position: None (He hates flying brooms) Future Career - Head of the Auror Office. He wanted to make a change in the world and had been inspired by the former head of office, Yagi Toshinori; he was clashing with Todoroki over this title until the latter became Minister of Magic.
Mineta Minoru: Patronus – Hyena. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position – Commentator. No one actually wanted him to try out or believed he had any skills, but he can make interesting comments, though he often ignores the male achievers on the team and focuses only on talking about the females. Future Career – Assistant Wandmaker. He’s good especially at repairing wands, and hopes one day to be the main wandmaker in the town.
Ojirou Mashirao: Patronus – Kangaroo. Blood Status – Half-Blood. Quidditch Position – Chaser. He’s good with juggling the Quaffle around and has good teamwork skills, which makes him a talented chaser. Future Career – Curse Breaker. He knows his job is dangerous but he has a penchant for curses and breaking them, and thus chooses this job (a plus is he gets to travel, too).
Satou Rikidou: Patronus - Oryx. Blood Status – Muggleborn. Quidditch Position – None. He was too busy in the dungeon testing out his own skills and trying to brainstorm new, useful potions for the wizarding world (gotta start young). Future Career – Sweets maker at Honeydukes. He has a natural penchant for the sweet stuff and often spent his weekends in Hogsmeade at Honeydukes.
Sero Hanta: Patronus – Magpie. Blood Status – Half-blood. Quidditch Position – Commentator. He doesn’t like to play the actual sport but he doesn’t mind making a few silly comments with the other commentator. Sometimes the other one goes a little too far… Future Career – Metal-Charmer. A rare profession that he found himself interested in as he enjoyed the thought of enchanting objects, and also has a talent for Charms.
Shouji Mezou: Patronus – Octopus. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position – Keeper. He has an amazing amount of defensive skills and it’s near impossible to get a Quaffle past him while he’s guarding. Future Career – Unspeakable. No one knows what his job entails as he works in the Department of Mysteries, but he’s amazingly good at it because he rarely talks, and a secret will never slip past his lips.
Todoroki Shouto: Patronus - Swan. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position – Captain. He likes to be in charge, and he has good planning abilities, being on the team also helps him learn to listen to others ideas. Future Career - Minister of Magic. Despite his amazing abilities on the battlefield he has an acute sense of diplomacy due to his father’s harsh upbringing, and wishes to (spite) him by making the world a better place for half-blood and Muggleborn wizards.
Tokoyami Fumikage: Patronus – Crow. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position – Seeker. He’s a complete natural in the air and feels quite at home up there, sometimes he gets distracted by the atmosphere and zones out of the game temporarily, but he always makes it up by scoring a few goals with some brutal offense. Future Career – Hit Wizard. He’s extremely talented and powerful and thus taking down dark wizards is an easy feat for him, his skills often overwhelming them; no one knows why he didn’t just become an Auror as it’s basically the same job.
Uraraka Ochako: Patronus - Wild Cat. Blood Status – Muggleborn. Quidditch Position – Chaser. She likes to play for fun more often than not, but she doesn’t mind getting involved in games if they need her. Future Career – Auror. She finds working as an Auror feels more fulfilling than ever, though it makes her worry more often than not for her parent’s safety. She’s considering becoming a teacher but can’t think of a subject she feels comfortable talking about.
Yaoyorozu Momo: Patronus – Dolphin. Blood Status – Pureblood. Quidditch Position – None. She’s often too busy studying and she had an embarrassing incident where she fell of a broom once, her skirt flew up… and the rest is history. Future Career – Transfiguration Teacher. She’s quite knowledgeable on the subject, and she found she quite enjoys teaching students. She’s actually thrilled when they show improvement in the subject, too.

there was one thing dawn was not about to do and that was admitting she hadn't seen squid game, making her entirely unprepared for this discussion that jonnie seemed to be unwilling to let go of. red light, green light. the giant doll. she'd obviously heard of it ( just because she was korean didn't mean she'd seen squid game, okay classmates ?! ) but was her judgment on whether jonnie would survive it entirely sound ? probably yes, considering she wouldn't place bets on jonnie in any kind of survival show situation. " please, you'd probably be out of your mind high and get scared shitless about that doll and just like.... stand entirely still. " she hoped that was a safe enough assumption to cover her entire lack of knowledge.
jonnie was being as dramatic as could be, his normal everyday mode. as far as that went, the two of them couldn't be more different with dawn's demeanor switching between indifferent, infuriated and little else. still, a little smirk was working its way up the corners of her lips. falling back a few steps, she shamelessly checked out his ass, considering it was the object of current discussion. " mhm, not sure voluptuous is quite the word i would use." which was big, coming from a girl with little to no ass herself. his complaint about the lack of affection she was paying him was met with little less than a look of disgust. catching back up, she bumped into his side. " would you quit making a scene ?! if people start paying attention and taking pictures of us, i bet they won't be talking about your enormous dumptruck on twitter later. " her voice is clearly teasing, but she'd truly prefer not to feed the twitter trolls even more and luckily jonnie switched back to their usual banter soon enough. scoffing, she looked at him sideways, one eyebrow raised. " you're opening your mouth pretty wide for a guy who plays pop. " this was their comfort zone, teasing each other about their abilties, always trying to come out on top but never quite serious. jonnie was a good drummer, in some aspects maybe a better drummer than her, but she'd be damned before admitting that. " my favorite annoyance ? " perhaps he wasn't too far off with that one, perhaps dawn enjoyed his silly antics more than she had ever anticipated. how did she let it get that far ?!
following him the last couple of minutes to the bar, there was little she was less in the mood for than standing in line. luckily jonnie seemed to frequent this place, giving them the opportunity to not only cut the line but get in without having their ids checked as well. she liked this place. the bass vibrating through the entire bar already made dawn feel more at ease than she had outside, in the cold. while it was a little too packed for dawn's liking, she had to assume that spoke for the quality of music they played here. letting jonnie take the lead, they made their way to the bar and dawn took a look at the drinks this place offered. " trying to appease me with alcohol, huh ? not the worst plan i've heard from you. " she left the killing allegations unanswered, instead waving down the barkeeper for their order. leaning over the counter, as much as she could at her height, she yelled over the noise. " i'll take a whiskey sour and he wants... " she kept it open, looking at jonnie to add his drink of choice. slowly, she started warming up to this. literally. " alright, so this is one of your regular places, huh ? " she asked, looking around to get a grasp of their surroundings and the people hanging out here.
stopping dead in his tracks , jonnie exclaims an , “ excuse you ? ” absolutely offended by her comment jonnie rests his hand against his heart , “ i would so not be the first to die are you kidding me ? i got like street smarts or whatever , i could crush it at that fucking red light , green light game any fucking day , that little doll wouldn't catch shit ! i can't believe you don't have any faith in me . ” in hindsight , she was probably right . but then again , jonnie wouldn't even want to participate , he'd lose on purpose because what is the point really ? he would not have enough energy to try and win , but dawn did not need to know that thank you very much .
“ okay , but don't i always look hot in those jeans ! they bring out my very voluptuous ass and make my thighs look thick as hell ! you're just a party pooper dude , i swear one day i'm gonna never speak to you again and then you're gonna wallow in your misery like ‘ oh jonnie , jonnie please come back to me , i was wrong ’ ! ” he cries out , putting on a full performance in the middle of new york's lit up streets , mimicking dawn's voice as best ad he could , “ yeah , they did , but you what i think they could've done better ! their first pick probably didn't call them back and they just had you on deck . ” he loved getting under her skin , it was probably the most joyous part of his day whenever she was in it and he couldn't imagine being his normally mushy self with her ... he'd rather vomit . “ your favorite annoyance though , i know that for an absolute fact ! also , i don’t know like two minutes ? ”
as oblivious as jonnie was he was good at directions — there was also the fact he’d been to this bar countless times before thus imprinting some sort of map in his head for it . as the walk dragged on , he could hear the heavy bass of the music coming from the bar as they approached it and with a quick pat to the bouncer’s back they were let in with no problem , most likely causing an uproar within the line that was waiting to get in , but jonnie did not have it in him to care or look back . the bar was crowded , packed wall to wall and there was some random band he’d never seen up on stage at the moment so he guides dawn to the bar , “ whatcha drinking tonight dawnster it’s on me ! especially because i feel if i don’t get a drink in you at some point you’re gonna kill me so … ”
#◌ ⋰ 𝒅𝒂𝒘𝒏 𝒋𝒆𝒐𝒏𝒈 ↠ ⌜ interactions. ⌟#⋰ ⌜ dawn & jonnie 001. ⌟#i have literally nothing to say for myself#today it's just.... too many words??#DSFHSDF i am so sry

Ry& Reaction: “Share the Joy”
To start things off, I think the on-stage performances were pretty good.
Going in I wasn’t sure if opting out the whimsical silliness and backstage skits of standard Nintendo Directs in favour of a lavish Apple-esque event was a good idea, but Kimishima and company pulled it off.
The lighting was good, the music was catchy and the idea of using finger snaps as stage transitions was a clever way to stay on message with Switch’s gimmick. The presenters were great too, with everyone selling their pitches with clarity and confidence.
... And yes, a little bit of Nintendo’s trademark quirkiness seeped in, too.
Editor’s Note: Switch General Producer Yoshiaki Koizumi really impressed me and proved to be the most charismatic salesman in the bunch. Perhaps he could be groomed as the late, great Satoru Iwata’s replacement.
But the skits and props and lasers are all just showmanship razzmatazz and while folks appreciate those things as lead-in material, what really sells people on gaming products are the video packages. Because there’s nothing quite like a sharply edited trailer to get you hyped for a new game or piece of hardware.
The Switch itself received two hype videos. The first providing an overview on the console as a whole, while the second focused specifically on the Joy-Con controllers.
Video one started out as a nice little recap of how the TV Mode, Handheld Mode, and Table-Top Mode functions work and really hammered down the benefits of taking your game anywhere. As the package rolled on however, Nintendo started to answer some FAQ’s regarding certain elements of the Switch’s hardware like for example: What’s the battery life of the Switch tablet? Will the tablet have a touch-based interface? How many Switches can be linked together?
Answer 1 - As the previous rumours suggested, roughly three to six hours. Nintendo says this is fully depending on the game in play. So something like say Breath of the Wild can run up to three hours, while smaller scale stuff like low-res indies or Virtual Console classics are likely in six-hour territory.
Hot take – It’s kind of hard to say this revelation is disappointing but it still is. It’s running games at 720p and 60fps, so this is pretty reasonable. On the other hand, three hours isn’t much play time for a handheld device. So if you plan on traveling with this thing, bring a book, too.
Answer 2 – Yes. It’s a 6.2’ inch multi-touch pad, similar to the tech used for the Wii U and the Dual Screen handheld lines.
Hot Take – It’s a good design choice, as that interface worked beautifully for those systems and opened up a lot of game design possibilities. I fully expect this new screen to work the same magic for Switch.
Answer 3 – Up to eight Switch tablets can be linked together for local multiplayer.
Hot Take - So ... that’d be 8-16 players depending on the game? That’s going to come in handy for competitive tournaments ... or a big old house party!
Editor’s Note: It was also pointed out online multiplayer can be accessed in all three Switch Modes ... kind of weird that that got mentioned. Most people would think it was given but good news all the same.
Switch video #2 provided a demo of the Joy-Con’s motion sensing technology, because Wii aren’t going to see Ninty let go of that old chestnut any time soon.
Although, perhaps a Wiimote/nunchuck comparison isn’t totally fair. Oh, Joy-Con R&L serve the same purpose but according to Koizumi’s demonstration, these nifty little inventions are more sophisticated and precise than their predecessors. Apparently they allow actions like say swinging Link’s Master Sword or one of Little Mac’s trademark Star Punches to be performed with pin-point accuracy.
Part of what makes this proposed accuracy possible is an IR camera built into the right Joy-Con that can measure the shape, motion, and distance of any object in front of it.
That’s not to say Joy-Con R is the only of its kind to innovate because both the right and left controllers have built-in “HD Rumble”, the Rumble Pack’s next-gen cousin. What this new tech does is add a greater sense of weight and sound to the rumble, making it so the player can really feel the impact of the aforementioned punches and sword clangs.
Editor’s Note: His examples were Rock, Paper, Scissors ... Glass of Water. Mine are better.
Also, the left one has a Share button and the right one has an NFC scanner for Amiibo figures. Oh, and wrist straps are included in box to ensure no wayward Joy-Cons breakthrough the televisions that bind them.
Editor’s Note: Don’t you dare laugh at that last part. The threat is real.
Thoughts on video #2:
So, on top of being two-thirds of the Switch Grip (TV Mode controller), two-thirds of the Switch Handheld, as well as P1 and P2 controllers (Tablet Mode), the Joy-Cons are also Wiimote/nunchuck 2.0 HD? Quite the little technical marvels, wouldn’t you say?
Now, I haven’t been one to consistently sing the praises of motion controls, not that I don’t think stuff like Wii Sports, Wii Fit or Just Dance can be fun ... in fact, I’ve had plenty of fun with those games.
That said, the precision of Wii Motion (even with Plus) wasn’t always up to snuff and Nintendo would often insert those slightly finicky mechanics into more traditional (or classic style) games and let’s just say (to put it gently) the results varied.
Still, motion control technology has a lot of potential and overall I’m glad Nintendo experimented with it. If what Koizumi said is true, we would be looking at the most immersive gameplay set-up around ... that doesn’t involve a VR headset. I don’t know if I fully buy that but I’d be willing to give his bold “new world of entertainment” a fair shake ... just as long as it doesn’t force me out of my comfort zone.
Editor’s Note: At the very least it could prove to provide plenty of fun. I mean, who doesn’t like to move around and get a little silly with friends, right?
My one suggestion would be to build games specifically around those mechanics, as opposed to cramming said mechanics into everything. Considering this setup doesn’t work in Handheld Mode, I don’t think that’s much cause for concern.
The Share button ... OK; Nintendo’s more than a couple years late to the social networking party, which is sad cause it could have lead the charge back in 2012 ... but it didn’t. Although, there’s something to be said about better being late than never and this function will be very useful for fans to share their experiences ... just a shame the video portion will be a few months late.
Editor’s Note: A logical step two would be to sign a partnership deal with Twitch TV. Step three would be to stop putting an ad revenue cap on Youtube uploads. If you want creative folks to make and share videos based on your IPs, you got to build that bridge.
The Amiibo scanner is a no brainer and building it into the Joy-Cons only makes sense since it allows figures to be usable in all three Switch forms.
Oh, and (again) the wrist straps are great because they prevent property damage.
Ooooo! Now we can get to the best part of this little blog, The Game Trailer Lightning Round!
The screen (whether it be TV or tablet) is almost a non-factor in 1-2-Switch, a weird (oh so very weird) mini-game collection/Joy-Con motion sensor showcase.
Whether it’s engaging in a quick draw showdown, a copy cat dance-off, cow milking ... or fictitious sandwich eating, 1-2-Switch is all about gaining the upper hand on your opponent through awareness of audio cues and slight changes in HD Rumble.
Pro-Tip: Keeping a watchful eye on your opponent and their physical tells is also a keen strategy.
I honestly didn’t know what to make of 1-2-Switch. Between the goofy gestures and one-on-one contact, this one has the potential to be a game night regular. But the clips in the trailer were a bit too strange to get a good read on whether or not I’d personally enjoy it overall. (I say overall because I was sold on that Quick Draw game from the moment it shot up)
Release Date – March 3, 2017
Editor’s Note: This would make for a perfect pack-in title.

Next up is Arms: a figurative (and literal) one-two punch of physicality and traditional gameplay.
Likely inspired by the Nintendo Ultra Hand, Arms is a 3D fighting game that’s a little bit Wii Sports Boxing and a little bit Team Fortress 2.
Players can pick from a variety of colourful heroes, each with their own unique abilities and power-ups ... with the added twist that their arms are spring-loaded extendo-gloves.
Basically the goal of the game is too grab, throw and punch your opponent from half-way across the arena until you can deliver a super move and knock ‘em out; as you bob, weave, jump and dodge. And it’s all done through a combination of wrist-flicks, timed button presses and actual punching.
I had no idea whether or not the game would work as intended but it was so incredibly silly that it tickled punched me in all the right places.
Release Date – Spring 2017

Swimming in from Inkopolis was Splatoon 2! (A proper sequel ... good swerve)
Good to know the kids and squids are back to squirt up some more trouble in an all-new set of turf wars filled with new characters, weapons, maps and even a few new mechanics like a dodge roll and rocket blast.
The original was one of the few games on Wii U to bring millions of players together through online play, so it’s little to wonder why The Big N decided to let the squids (and kids) Switch it up for a whole new round of Splat Fests.
Yup, happy to see Nintendo continue its efforts to support fresh IP ... and even happier to know Splat Fest (along with a variety of free DLC) is making a comeback, too.
Release Date – Summer 2017

Then suddenly, after years of build-up, we finally caught a good glimpse of [insert drum roll] Super Mario Odyssey!
Oh man, oh man! I think it’s safe to say many of us have waited years for a new 3D open-world game to take the red-clad plumber far beyond the samey terrains of The Mushroom Kingdom and when it finally came, I (for one) wasn’t disappointed.
Mario jumping and swooshing around the busy city streets of New York Donk City like Spider-Man; exploring the deepest darkest forests of parts unknown; cooking up trouble in a crystallized food world; and riding the frickin’ sphinx from Super Mario Land(?), were awesome sights to behold!
Wait a second ... he can break dance? OK, I’m giving it six, no, seven stars!
image sources - Nintendo and Capcom Fighters
... Also the new hat throw and hat jump mechanics are pretty neat.
This trailer blew me away then knocked my socks off! It’s a beautiful looking game that boasts the Switch’s HD vigour in full effect and a great mix of cool new stuff and the classic stuff that made us all fans in the first place.
So yeah, good first impression. Can’t wait to see more during E3.
Release Date – Holiday Season 2017
Following that wonderful display was an onslaught of upcoming RPGs:
image sources - Monolith Software, Koei Tecmo, Square Enix, Nintendo, Atlus and Bethesda
Xenoblade 2 – A proper sequel to the cult classic brought stateside by popular demand.
Dragon Quest Heroes 1&2 – After further confirmation of Dragon Quest X and XI Switch ports, it was revealed Square Enix’s classic series’ recent crossovers with Koei Tecmo’s popular hack-and-slash Dynasty Warriors franchise would also “make the Switch”.
Fire Emblem Warriors – Speaking of Dynasty Warriors, following its recent success crossing over with Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series, the two dev teams are hoping to make lightning strike twice but this time with Fire Emblem characters. No footage was shown aside from a shield, a hand, and a sword.
Shin Megami Tensei 25th Anniversary HD Project – A new entry in Atlus’ (oc)cult classic franchise “makes the Switch” with many of its fan favourite monsters in line. It’s probably the fifth game in its mainline ... probably.
Project Octopath Traveler – 2D pixels and 3D backdrops collide in this little beauty from Square Enix.
Skyrim – At long last, Bethesda has joined forces with Nintendo and together they will bring at least one of the best western made RPGs to the Switch, and that game is the legendary Skyrim! Not only that, but the game looks great (maybe not the best it’s ever looked but still great) and having it on a handheld is sure to make many Elder Scrolls fans shout H-Ur-Rah!
RPGs have always had a prosperous home on Nintendo consoles (excluding the N64) and it’s nice to see such a great and varied selection settle on Switch. It’s just unfortunate (for this blog at least) that aside from the ports, we really don’t know that much about any of them other than they’ll all be out this year.

Editor’s Note: *GASP! PANT! PANT! GASP!* I think that’s all of them.
More on this list later but first ... the grand finale.
After much teasing and commercial plugging, Nintendo’s biggest wigs closed out the show with a final bow and fade to black, very classy.
PSYCHE!
... Yeah, that stuff happened but to serve as a lead in for one last trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild!
Wow, what a trailer! It had everything: drama, tragedy and of course some sweet gameplay action, all without giving too much away. It was the perfect piece of mass media marketing.
And that March 3, 2017 launch date reveal? Truly a “legendary” stinger to close such an historic night.
Some loose notes from the show:
An EA rep appeared on stage to announce a new kind of FIFA game is coming to Switch this fall. Probably the best possible sports game get for the system given FIFA’s world-wide reach.
Suda 51 made the scene with the announcement of a brand-new game starring No More Heroes loser-in-chief leading man Travis Touchdown. Apparently, it takes inspiration from pro-wrestling and that’s all he could share ... so maybe it’s No More Heroes 3 or maybe it isn’t. Also, it’s only in the early development stages, so it’s not coming out anytime soon unfortunately.
Editor’s Note: No More Heroes 1 & 2 were hallmark titles on the original Wii, making Nintendo (and publisher Ubisoft) a lot of money, while also transforming Suda from a weird niche auteur into an indie dev superstar. Welcome home, Suda-San.
And at the start of the show, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima addressed the crowd and viewers at home with five fascinating factoids.
First & Second: A fair share of Nintendo’s online services will revolve around a mobile app and when I say fair share, I should really say most, since the app supported features include match making, lobbies and voice chat. Sadly, the app won’t be ready in time for Switch’s launch but basic online play and the eShop will be up and running from Day One.
Speaking of Switch’s online play, Nintendo will take the Xbox Gold and PlayStation Plus route with some sort of pay-to-use structure ... the details of which weren’t ironed out during the show.
Hot takes – I’m of two minds on this whole app business. Match making and voice chats through an app is an interesting concept and with DeNA (a mobile company) behind it, it could be taken in several creative directions. That and it kind of makes sense since Switch is two-thirds a mobile console.
On the other hand, users’ best keep a watchful eye on their phone bill ... or stay put in a wi-fi zone.
image source - 20th Century Fox (made with Frinkiac)
Editor’s Note: Fingers crossed this isn’t a data muncher.
image source - 20th Century Fox (made with Frinkiac)
*Sigh* I guess it had to happen eventually and I understand the logic of charging for online play (servers and whatnot). Still ... maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Free online play was a nice competitive edge Nintendo had over the competition (and not having to pay an extra $60-80 a year was a nice treat for customers) and now it’s gone. Let’s just hope the price is reasonable and it has some perks aside from basic services.
Editor’s Note: Also, credit where it’s due, Nintendo will grant users free access for the first few months, as DeNA works out the kinks. Props to The Big N for doing something it (in all honesty) didn’t have to do.
Third: Starting with Switch, Region Locking is donzo on Nintendo!
Editor’s Note: He put it more eloquently but I wanted to rhyme and it’s my blog, so there!
Hot take – This is good news for developers who make niche games that don’t typically get localized for foreign markets. It’s good news for international fans who can ship and play said games without having to also ship region specific hardware (or resort to piracy). And it’s also good PR for Nintendo, so it’s good news for everyone. Nice play, Big N.

Fourth & Fifth: Mark the date, Nintendo fans. Planet Earth will “Make the Switch” on March 3, 2017! Two weeks prior to the date that had been tossed around by the press ... and it will be priced at $299.99 in North America.
Hot takes – March 3 is a pretty good launch date. Just before spring break season and it’s also when some lucky folks have a bit of extra cash on hand. So a nice portion of Nintendo’s base is bound have some time and money spend on Switch.
That North American price point seemed so bold to me. In fact, I couldn’t believe it when I heard it and had to rewind the video feed twice. But Kimishima said clear as day the words, “$299.99” and “North America”, as in a universal price point across the continent? It seemed so.
To put that into perspective for my fellow Canucks, Switches sold in Canada would be roughly $75 (USD) cheaper when the (usually terrible for us) exchange rate is taken into account. “Truly a gutsy and most appreciated move”, I thought. “Nintendo must really want to win the Canadian market share.”
Editor’s Note: I was so young, so naive. Like a little koopaling.
If I were to give a brief overview of the show, I’d say it wasn’t without a select few weaker moments but the showmanship was good and between the potential in the hardware’s gimmick and some sweet looking games, I closed out of the window feeling mighty enthusiastic about the Switch.
...
Editor’s Note: I realize this is a tad late (on account of multiple re-writes ... each longer and more thesis-y than the last) and for that I’m sorry. To make amends, here are some reactions to Switch stuff that popped up in the aftermath.
In the mere minutes that followed the Switch presentation, Nintendo and a handful of third-party partners continued to dish on the multifaceted dream machine and it wasn’t all good news.
For starters, it turns out Kimishima forgot to put a USD label next to that price tag. ... I should have known it was too good to be true.
So what’s the true Canadian price? $400 CAD...
And with that, my optimism took a good bonk to the head.
Editor’s Note: Total time spent in denial – 75 Minutes
Dang dude, it’s almost as if Nintendo doesn’t want to compete here in The Great White North.
I get Nintendo of Japan doesn’t want to lose money on the exchange rate and I’m sure Nintendo of America would rather not see its customers travel north of the border for bargain Switches, but really? $400 for a Switch is craz ... ludacr ... less than ideal.
An Xbox One or standard PS4 in Canada can run between $380 & $350 depending on where you shop and the particular bundle. Sony and Microsoft have chosen to take a slight hit on the exchange but in turn, they’ve also kept their consoles within an enticing price range. This is important because a lame loony means consumers have fewer of those loonies to spend on luxuries.
Also notice how I said “bundles”. Yeah, PlayStations and Xbox One S’ come with games and not just any games but major blockbusters like Uncharted 4 and Gears of War 4; or Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Yes, customers pay more in CAD than their friends down south would pay in USD but they can still feel like they’ve gotten their money’s worth. Switch has no such pack-in. Not even 1-2-Switch, which might as well be classified as a tech demo.
Editor’s Note: Nintendo said a pack-in game won’t be included in order to keep the price at $300 USD.
Then there’s the memory issue. Ordinary PS4′s and standard Xbone S’ have 500GB of storage built in. What does Switch got? A 32GB Micro SD card. ... Breath of the Wild on its own is a 13GB download.
Editor’s Note: Additional Micro SDs of up to 256GBs can be swapped in but could be another pricey purchase, especially if you choose one with Nintendo branding.
Not to mention the other two options also have superior hardware and some slightly spiffier graphics.
And it’s not just the console that’s steeply priced. Get a load of this:
Yikes. $90 bucks for the least gimmicked controller? $100 bucks for an extra pair of Joy-Cons? Yes, there’s fancy tech installed into the JC’s and yes, name-brand controllers are pricey across the board but at least the other players on said board have affordable third-party alternatives in stock.
Editor’s Note: To Nintendo’s credit, it did commission HORI to make a cheaper ($39.99 CAD) wired controller ... but it can’t be used for travel play, which is Switch’s main selling point.
Well, at least game prices synch up with the competition ... even if $65 for 1-2-Switch, $70 for Bomberman and $55 for The Binding of Isaac is a bit much.
Oh and speaking of games, a few more Switch titles have been announced since the presentation.
image sources - SEGA, Nicalis, Arc System Works and Bandai Namco
Sonic Mania (YES!), BlazBlue (YES!), The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (YES!), the next Tales game (neat), and New Frontier Days: Founding Pioneers (woo?) were all announced just minutes after the keynote.
Another game related revelation of the (late) evening was that the new Mario Kart game is in fact a port of Mario Kart 8, as previously rumoured.
Mario Kart 8: Deluxe features 10 new characters (including Dry Bones, King Boo and the Inklings from Splatoon), a second item slot (as well as some new to MK8 items such as the Super Leaf) and (by popular demand) a return to the classic Battle Mode. Just a shame the Inkoplois park is the only new track.
MK8D will be a good pick-up for those who didn’t pick-up a Wii U (which is A LOT of people) and perhaps OG MK8 players will pick it up, too because of the new content.
In the month since ...
image source - Yacht Club Games, Nicalis, Tomorrow Corporation and Warner Bros.
Yacht Club Games confirmed the Treasure Trove edition of Shovel Knight will dig into the Switch. Indie publishers Nicalis and Tomorrow Corporation have confirmed choice selections from their libraries. Warner Bros. will continue to build its relationship with Nintendo through a Switch version of LEGO Worlds.
Ah yeah, and Nintendo hosted a Fire Emblem themed Direct on January 18 in which a proper (but yet to be named) Fire Emblem title was announced for a 2018 release on Switch.
We also got to see Chrom slash a bunch of dudes in a slightly extended Fire Emblem Warriors trailer.

Wait ... I almost forgot. When Game Spot’s Chris Pererira caught up with Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Amie at the January 13 hands-on event at Nintendo World in NYC, Pererira attempted to inquire about two particularly popular (and currently MIA) franchises. I don’t think I need to you tell what those franchises were ... (they were Metroid and Mother) *Cough*. Anyway, Reggie cut him off guard and asked the question himself, at which he promptly answered in a rather interesting manner.
"Oh, so earlier today I got asked about Mother 3; maybe you can ask me about Metroid. Look, again, I am proud as an executive with Nintendo to say that we look at all of the boards and all of the comments and we really have a good understanding of what our consumers want. And believe me, we take that to heart as we work to create content.
"So I have nothing to announce--here. But we are aware that there are some key IP that consumers just can't wait for the next true installment in that franchise's legacy. Suffice it to say, we're aware of it, and talk to me in a year and let's look back and see what's happened." - Reggie Fils-Amie to Game Spot (January 13, 2017)
As Pererira noted in his article, these comments do not guarantee either a new and proper entry in the Metroid franchise or the long-awaited (and official) English language release of Mother 3. However, they do offer up a nice little bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, those deeply wanted announcements are incoming ... maybe at E3? ... Maybe?
image source - @Nintendeal on Twitter
Aside from all that, Nintendeal made this nifty little (albeit incomplete) 2017 release schedule, with the added promise that between Nintendo and its third-party partners, 100 games are currently in development for Switch.
That’s all well and good but ... is it really enough?
image source - 20th Century Fox (made with Frinkiac)
Editor’s Note: *Sigh* I’m starting to come off as an entitled snot, aren’t I?
Look, 100 games is a great release target for a console’s first year, I’m not debating that. And I certainly wouldn’t imply it’s a weak collection from what we’ve seen thus far.
Between the point-and-click adventures, world-builders, platformers, racers, puzzlers, party games, fighting games and the wealth of RPGs, Switch will have plenty of good stuff to offer all ages and tastes.
However, most of what’s listed is ports of games released several months or years ago on PS4 and Xbox One. Now that I think of it, there’s also an alarming lack of star power outside of Nintendo’s development bubble.
image sources - Blizzard, Ubisoft, EA, Rockstar Games, Bethesda, Square Enix, Capcom, NetherRealm Studios, BioWare and Nintendo
Sure, Switch has most of the world’s leading development and publishing houses pledging support but where are those studios’ heaviest hitters? Have Overwatch and For Honor enlisted? Will Injustice 2 and MvC Infinite bring the fight to Switch? Red Dead 2 and GTA are MIA? Did Final Fantasy XV & Kingdom Hearts 3 not belong in that RPG package? I could go on with a longer list of missing major third-party titles that have or will make fat stacks on and for other platforms, but I’ll leave it at that. ... Oh, and I don’t recall seeing a Switch logo in the recent Avengers teaser.
Editor’s Note: And aren’t there sports other than Basketball and Soccer?
Perhaps these games will be revealed down the line during E3 or even in one of the few Directs Nintendo is bound to host between now and then. Or maybe they won’t arrive at all.
Respawn’s Mohammad Alavi recently scoffed at the idea of Titanfall 2 landing on Switch, stating the console’s hardware was “under-powered”. There are also rumours Switch’s crack at the FIFA franchise will be based on past PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
Editor’s Note: Yikes.
Basically, despite its Maxwell chip suggesting it could handle producing games visually on par with basic PS4 and Xbone titles, there might be some U-esque hardware flaw that prevents ports of let’s call them “busier” games from being viable options.
Editor’s Note: Potentially devastating, if true.
Although, another likely explanation could be these studios are playing the waiting game to see if Nintendo moves enough Switches to make the effort of porting that stuff worthwhile. As much flack as some of Nintendo’s hardcore fans tend to give them for Wii U’s “failure”, these companies got burned, too; losing good money on their few investments.
image source - Bioware, Ubisoft and Warner Bros.
Long story short, Switch’s initial line-up is fairly solid with some good (and great) stuff from third-parties and Nintendo itself. However, the third-party portion has some major absences for one reason or ... multiple others.
I wouldn’t normally wish to speculate off the cuff but (granting Switch is successful), I think these publishers will port over as many of their hallmark games as they can (IE as many of them that are compatible with Switch’s hardware). I suppose any gaps could be filled with original content they would’ve made for the 3DS. (This is likely the fate of Level-5’s Yo-kai Watch series, for example)
PS: One more thing that’s setting off some red flags is the fact only a handful of games has a release date set in stone. I hope we don’t see any dry spells like with the Wii U’s early days ... and middle days ... and later days.
Boy, this sure is getting long in the tooth (again) but before I end this, I want to make sure I cover the growth of Nintendo’s online services.
In the moments following Switch’s grand showing, Nintendo released this adorable little gem on Youtube:
youtube
video source - Nintendo on Youtube
To summarize, Big Bow protects Little Bow from the more intimidating aspects of online play, as well as shielding him from inappropriate content, all while tapping contently through a simple mobile app. This app also gave the senior koopa the power to control junior’s playtime and to set a play schedule, all while learning everything there is to know about his son’s favourite games.
I’m all for anything that gives parent’s the power to monitor what their kids are playing and add any restrictions they deem suitable for their child. I also think Nintendo should be commended for encouraging parents to learn more about their child’s interests and to play with them. I like that a lot.
Having it all controlled through an app is a great idea, too. After all, mom & dad can’t be home 24/7, so having an ace up their sleeve for some extra piece of mind is a lovely courtesy.
Editor’s Note: I hope mom & dad have good coverage.
image source - 20th Century Fox (made with Frinkiac)
Another key online selling point Nintendo immediately put forward was its counterpoint to PS Plus Rewards and Games With Gold.
Subscribers to Nintendo’s online service will get one free NES or SNES classic each month. OK, that doesn’t quite measure up to the competition considering they hand out multiple free and current (or currentish) games each month, but a free game is a free game.
Wait, let me just read this fine print before moving on...
It expires after a month? You mean to tell me Nintendo can’t afford to give away decades-old roms no bigger than a couple songs on iTunes? Not to mention the library of NES and SNES games is so massive; The Big N couldn’t possibly come close to giving them all away anyway. Come on, man.
Needless to say, that news irked me a bit when I first read it. However, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t appreciate the member discounts continuing on into the Switch’s life-span or thought online play for SNES games wasn’t so darn cool.
You know what else is cool? A region free online store!
On January 19 it was uncovered that much like Switch discs, digital copies have also been unshackled! But ... there’s a bit of catch. That catch being region specific sections of the eShop, as well as region specific games, can only be accessed with user IDs tagged to those regions. Luckily, up to eight user profiles can be attached to a Switch console and those profiles can be tied to any region of the user’s choosing. So, say if a primarily English speaking player wants to buy and play a Japanese game but doesn’t want to go through the expensive process of importing a physical copy, all they have to do is create and log into a Japanese profile on their Switch. Easy peasy, Wario queasy.
Getting back to the NYC show, Youtube personality ProJared caught up with Reggie for a rather Switched up interview.
image source - ProJared on Youtube
At one point in the discussion, Jared inquired about the possibility of Virtual Console purchases becoming cross-platform tie-ins. Reggie offered this promising reply:
“We’ve heard this comment. We’ve heard it many times. Obviously the first step for us was getting a unified Nintendo account that goes back and ties back not only existing systems but will tie back to the Nintendo Switch and mobile gaming. The details of exactly how the Virtual Console will work, we’re holding back a little bit, so we can share the full concept at a later date but we heard the comment and we’re working on it.” - Reggie Fils-Amie to ProJared (January 13, 2017)
Not much to say here other than it’s about time. You buy a game once, you shouldn’t have to buy it again or pay a fee just to transfer it over to another system. Good to see Nintendo has finally come to understand this.
I also can’t forget February 1, when Japanese financial paper Nikkei uncovered Nintendo’s plan to charge between 2,000 and 3,000 yen per year for the online service. (This translates to $17 and $26 USD ... or roughly $22 and $34 CAD).
Needless to say, that’s great! If Nintendo has to charge for online play, at least it’s reasonably priced ... more so than PlayStation Network and Xbox Live which charge (at least) twice as much.
Suddenly the whole “month-long free VC game rental” thing doesn’t seem so bad anymore.
Editor’s Note: Switch Online sure has some nice positives ... *Sigh* I’m going to miss Miiverse. I know, it’s getting scrapped because Nintendo can’t provide enough moderation to make it a family friendly environment but still :( .
image source - Pure Nintendo (via Miiverse.net)
Editor’s Note [part deux]: Nah, I don’t want to end the discussion like that. Hmm ... oh, those bothersome Friend Codes are gone! I don’t care to remember all those extra numbers.
image source - 20th Century Fox (made with Frinkiac)
Update - Scratch that, they’re back. Groooooooooooan!
Hold it! ... Is there anything else about Switch I should note before reaching the conclusion? Well, I saw the Switch ad that played during the Super Bowl.
It was alright. More or less the same sort of ad used to reveal Switch last October; folks out enjoying their games anywhere and everywhere to the tune of a snappy song about beating to the tune of your own drum, expect this time the entire family got into it, as opposed to just the hip millennials. The message of the ad is simple: Switch can be enjoyed anywhere and everywhere by anyone and everyone.
Editor’s Note: Wait a second ... “First Thing” – TV Mode; “Second Thing” – Tabletop Mode; “Last Thing” – Handheld Mode. Oh my, that’s some clever use of song lyrics.
I guess I could also make a brief mention of the Treehouse livestream. While it didn’t reveal any additional games, it did shine a nice spotlight on the games that made their debut the night before ... also Zelda.

All of the Treehouse segments have been archived to Youtube but I’d like to list off my favourites:
Arms – I didn’t expect this game to look so cool in motion but it did. The button presses, wrist-flicks and RL punches flowed into each other perfectly. Not to mention the game itself seems like a nice light-hearted bit of fun.
Super Bomberman R – I don’t know what’s more shocking, the fact Konami brought Bomberman back, or that his return didn’t blow up in a pachinko machine.
Snipperclips – An adorable paper craft puzzler that took me by surprise.
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers – A new spin(kick) on a timeless classic.
Super Mario Odyssey – Nothing new here but I loved Miyamoto’s history lesson concerning Super Mario’s 64 and Sunshine and the influence their design had over this grand new adventure.
1,2-Switch – The Treehouse gang had some fun messing around with a few mini-games and it was fun to watch. That said, I’m still not sure if I’m entirely sold on it just yet. Still, I’d love to try out a few samples.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – I really enjoyed the quick look at the improvements made to the horseback riding mechanics and the new stable system. The real-time weather was quite something as well.
Moment of truth time is finally here; the moment to render that verdict I P-Winged my way out of last time. And now that there’s virtually no escape, boy, I have to make a call.
OK...I have to give Nintendo credit, the Switch’s introduction into the public eye has been a rousing success these past few months...for the most part.
The hardware and marquee games both left a major impression, and (unlike Wii U) Switch’s ad campaign has been firmly on point. Based on the tens of millions of Youtube views alone, there’s a level of excitement for this thing that hasn’t been felt for a Nintendo product in a good-long time. I’m talking Wii and NES level excitement. Its appeal has reached far beyond gamers and hardcore Nintendo fans; the Switch is now part of the wider pop culture consciousness. The mainstream market is very much interested in “making the Switch”.
Editor’s Note: Pre-orders have sold out world-wide and some shops have even had to cancel pre-orders because their pre-order stock couldn’t meet the pre-order demand and that is after Nintendo increased production to get more Switches on shelves...this is going to be a hot item. (*sigh* Oh Nintendo, Why do you under stock things?)
Will this mainstream appeal last? That’s a whole other story.
Sure, it’s currently selling out like crazy and folks are desperately clamouring to get one but a lot of fads started out that way and died down eventually and there are a few ways Switch could meet that same fate.
Like say, if the third-parties ultimately choose to abandon porting their big blockbusters to Switch, much like they did with the Wii U. Or if Nintendo were to disband its current united front and build another handheld to succeed the 3DS, giving big publishers that want to work with Nintendo (and even Nintendo’s own teams) another option, which was another thing that hurt Wii U.
There’s also the matter of Nintendo’s hardware and accessory pricing.
Editor’s Note: “Oh look at this big baby crying about those Canadian price points, again.” First: it’s my blog and I’ll cry if I want to. Second: yes, the prices are too darn high! Third: those US prices aren’t exactly bargains either. The US controller prices are gouges, too and Americans can buy those same PS4 and Xbox One bundles I mentioned earlier for the USD price of a Switch! Is the portability gimmick enough to cover the lack of a pack-in game, lack of decent hardware storage or lack of guaranteed full-fledged third-party support?!
*Cough* The Big N might also shoot its own Big old Foot and under stock Switch to the point customers just give up and choose to spend their money on other things. ... I’m looking directly at you, NES Classic Edition!
Or maybe, Switch is destined to fade away into fad zone obscurity. Like the SEGA CD/32X; the PlayStation Vita; and (to name it again) Nintendo’s own Wii U. It’d be unfortunate and it could happen for any number of reasons but to put it simply, sometimes things just don’t work out.
image credit - SEGA, Sony and Nintendo
I certainly see Koizumi’s angle of a bold “new world of entertainment” and its potential is bright but the more I think about, the clearer I can see a few possibilities for failure.
In the end, the only advice I could give to anyone who is curious about “Switching over” but isn’t entirely sure about it, would be to wait it out a bit...although in all honesty, they probably don’t have a choice but to wait at this point anyway.
How long of a wait am I talking here? I’d say Christmas (because there will likely be at least one good bundle and a much wider array of games to choose from) or next year (because a slight price drop is probably going to happen in year two). Not to mention waiting it out for 8-12 months would give you plenty of time to get a read on Switch’s future and determine whether or not it’s a good long-term investment.
Editor’s Note: If you’re desire to “Switch sides” relies on “Breathing in the Wild”, the latest incarnation of Zelda is also saveable on Wii U...yeah, it’s essentially U’s last rites.
Whelp, that does it. I hope you enjoyed this exceedingly long look at the Nintendo Switch’s pre-release hype and I thank you so very much for sticking with me.
Also, if I still have your attention, and if you do dig my work, feel to share, like, comment, re-blog, or whatever. ... A follow would be great as well, since it’s a lovely indicator that people are reading. *Cough* Ah...bye for now!
Don’t touch that dial...

COMIC TEA PARTY- THURSDAY BOOK CLUB START!
Good evening, everyone~! This week’s Thursday Book Club is officially beginning! Today we are discussing Littlelight Asylum by Julian Dominguez (Writer), Esther Pimentel (Artist), and Toben Racicot (Letterer)~! (http://littlelightasylum.spiderforest.com/)
Remember that Thursday discussions are completely freeform! However, every 30 minutes I will drop in OPTIONAL discussion questions in case you’d like a bit of a prompt. If you miss out on one of these prompts, you can find them pinned for the chat’s duration. Additionally, remember that while constructive criticism is allowed, our focus is fun and respectfully appreciating the comic. All that said, let’s begin!
QUESTION 1. What is your favorite scene in the comic so far and why?
i think for me, my favorite scene is hands down when cthulhu shows up and lays the smack down. this might be biased from really liking to see cthulhu get around. but i also just kept being like "this squid kid reminds me of cthulhu" and then my assumptions were vindicated
keii4ii
Yup XD
I also liked seeing Eve get excited for the Crimson Archer
mathtans
That was pretty cool. I also liked just earlier when Eternal Flame was still the dork.(edited)
Yup, gotta imagine Eve squee face.
RebelVampire
yeah i liked the timing for it too. cause eve stonewalled for so long but then gotta have that little quieter squee when the actual hero showed up.
although i also liked when lilith was all squee but then immediately turned on the tsundere "its not like i like this at all" XD
mathtans
I like her personality. Vaguely Spock-like. She's sensible.
Eve, that is.
Also, MASSIVE bonus points for "drum roll". That was too good.
keii4ii
On a more subtle note though, I also liked that Eve hid the video games, AND that her gaming stash had both of the other characters' favorite games. Sometimes you wonder why/how some characters get along, and it's subtle details like that that grounds the relationship for me, by showing that they have more in common than it may seem.
mathtans
keii: That's an excellent point. She's a good friend.
Though how could you not get along with Hollow.
RebelVampire
i liked that moment too because i think it demonstrates both eve's intelligence and that for monster kids, taking away their stuff is really not that easy. so it was a moment that kind of did some subtle and excellent world building as well.
mathtans
I think Eve is the only one who can portal though.
keii4ii
Yeah
the person who took the stuff wasn't expecting it at all
mathtans
(And there's just this dude living in there, that was funny...)
RebelVampire
true but i dont doubt the others could find a way to hide their games. like lilith seems like shes 100% use magic....that would ultimately mess up in some fashion. hollow might be screwed unless he decides to bury his games in the backyard.
granted i wouldve thought headmistress light wouldve realized eve kind of has some op powers for someone her age
mathtans
Fair. I do think Light is happy so long as there's no destruction of property going on.
keii4ii
Though if the average monster kid is good at sneaking stuff around, I would think others would be more aware/skeptical
mathtans
I'm still trying to figure out my feelings about Lilith. She seems pretty self-absorbed.
keii4ii
She kinda seems like the meanie who hangs out with the good kids because she does get lonely, and no one else will tolerate her
RebelVampire
tbf tho their tolerance isnt the highest. since the first scenario they basically said "nope lilith has to clean up her own mess" until it wasnt possible for them to leave it alone
im interested in what shaped lilith's personality to be as it is
keii4ii
I found it interesting that she seemed to genuinely like Sona as a character, as opposed to just "I like her because her game is fun." Sona seemed like she had a decent personality (or maybe that's just my assumption based on "typical video game main characters" )
RebelVampire
nah sona had a nice personality cause she was all positive in the brief moment we see her. very opposite of lilith. so it makes me wonder if lilith has had a bit of a troubled childhood. like i mean dont get me wrong, shes mean. but given shes also a kid you always have to wonder how genuine it is and how much of it is putting on airs and acting in a way she thinks is expected of her.
cause i know her profile even mentions shes half demon or something. so she could be thinking "no im a demon gotta do the evil"
Superjustinbros
Hey there, just popping in to say hello since I'm a bit occupied with something else atm
if I can make it later I'll jump into the chat proper
(I do want to say briefly that this story has some appealing character designs)
keii4ii
It could be something like, she doesn't get along with the Less Evil of her parents (could be the demon, could be the other one), so she's latching onto evil being desirable. But that's a total stab in the dark at this point in time
RebelVampire
true. could be opposite in that the witch parent is more evil. or they could both be evil
QUESTION 2. The cast of the comic is colorful to say the least. Did any of the characters in particular strike you as interesting? If so, who and why? Why do you think Lilith is at the orphanage when she implies she has parents? Who are her parents and where are they? What about Eve and Hollow? Do you think they’re actually orphans or are there mitigating circumstances to why they’re at the orphanage? What do you think Eve’s implied connection to Cthulhu is? What about Hollow? Any theories that turn what we believe about Hollow on their head? Do you think the three main children will manage to stay friends despite their differences, or will one of them cause a rift?
keii4ii
I do think an "the friends have a fight, but realize it was silly and reunite to defeat a foe that they could not have defeated individually" episode is likely, though it's still early on and can't really say what might cause such a scenario
RebelVampire
i could argue thats sort of their whole relationship tho. the whole friends fight but reunite
cause even the first issue basically kind of does this
keii4ii
Yeah
But I mean something more... extreme
The first one seemed like a daily occurrence kinda thing
But like, something that makes them think, "great, I'll never talk to the other two again"
RebelVampire
actually what i hope happens is that lilith is the great ill never talk to the other two again
has a solo adventure but comes back
and eve and hollow are were like "what do you mean our fight and friendship breakup? we thought you were just being you"
keii4ii
If that happens, I would like to see it contribute to Lilith's character growth long term, even if very subtle
mathtans
Sorry, had to deal with little one here. Just to finish my earlier thought...
Lilith seems to have this need to prove herself to someone, so there's that, but she's not great at considering the consequences. Like even being forced to clean up the kitchen. It's an interesting counterpoint to Eve... and I guess since my personality's more like Eve, I have little issues.
I think Lilith was probably left at the orphanage by a relative who just couldn't deal any more... her parents were maybe going to come back to said relative's place at some time. Now Lil's trying to get their attention, maybe?
RebelVampire
maybe. i feel like something deeper is going on. cause normally if you couldn't deal with a child youre watching you just ship them back to their parents. not send them to an orphanage.
not to mention lilith is a bag of trouble
and if i was the headmistress and knew lilith had parents who didnt abandon her forever, i wouldve been like "oh whoops back to your parents you go"
although nobody might know where the parents are
maybe lilith's witch parent is as bad as magic
are trapped in a video game
mathtans
Yeah, I figured maybe it was a "no forwarding address" kind of thing. Possibly because one of them is wanted, and they don't want their ties to the kids to be an issue.
Heh, that'd be amusing, if Lilith's witch parent had the same trouble with spells. Came by it honestly.
As to parent/kid ties, I feel like Eve is maybe a reincarnation of Cthulu or something. Which is why she can channel subconsciously?
RebelVampire
or the secret child. cause i mean of course cthulhu would abandon a kid. not out of evil but cthulhu has evil cthulhu stuff to do. no time to be raising kids. but ya know, can make time to show up and say "dont you tocuh my kid weird demon fellow"
but reincarnation works too
never considered that
or maybe eve just is cthulhu
the only one
and that was just an astral projection of her power or something fancy like that
mathtans
Yeah, monster adults be busy and all. Speaking of, I wonder if the other beings are kind of in their own dimension somewhere? Or if there are pockets in the real world? I mean, seemed like a normal town not too far away.
Eve is a chibi-cthulhu.
RebelVampire
it could just be both cause this seems like one of them tricky magic worlds where every answer is probably plausible O_O
i want to know why hollow can breathe fire on a side note. like is this werewolf lore i dont know about XD
mathtans
They live in video games.
Hollow eats a lot of spicy peppers.
keii4ii
I'm not aware of fire-breathing werewolf lores, but now that I think about it, it'd be really cool(edited)
to see a howling wolf exhale a long stream of fire into the moon
mathtans
Maybe it comes from the human side. Born of one of those fire eaters in the carnivals and a werewolf.
keii4ii
Unlikely but not impossible: could be a loose reference to the eclipse dog that tried to eat the sun (and failed)
mathtans
Hm, not one I know of.
RebelVampire
QUESTION 3. The world of the comic is interesting to say the least. How do you think Littlelight Asylum manages to stay under the radar given its unique composition of occupants? Do you think we’ll see Mel again? Further, do you think Mel will manage to expose Littlelight Asylum for what it is, or will Mel’s efforts wind up in vain? How abundant do you think monsters are compared to humans anyway? What do you think would happen if normal humans found out about the orphanage? Will it turn out okay, badly, or do you think they have safety nets in place? Lastly, why do you think Headmistress Light continues the orphanage when it causes her many headaches and risks a lot?
RebelVampire
ive never heard of that one either but i dont mark it off as impossible either. it was just a weird detail that made me curious about hollow. granted tbf hes a wolf all the time so this def is a diff sort of werewolf
mathtans
Different rules and all... demons live in hats.
I think calling the place an "Asylum" is a good way to keep random visitors from showing up. Just saying.
Monsters must be more prevalent than one thinks though, if they're having relationships with humans? And if Mel has enough data to identify them as such?
I'm not sure about safety nets, btw. The best solution they had seemed to be get on the bus.
RebelVampire
well that orphanage alone was pretty populated from what it seemed. and having an orphanage implies that either 1) the population is large because generally you only have an orphanage that community raising isnt a viable option or 2) orphans in the monster world are extremely, extremely common and probably more orphans than kids with parents
thats a great point about asylum tho
that its used as a detterent
thats brilliant and i never considered that
mathtans
True, about the implications. It could also be that it's the only place on the entire Earth for them.
I wonder if anyone tries to send an actual human orphan to the place. Are they listed in the yellow pages?
RebelVampire
if they are actually using the asylum thing as a deterrent for humans, probably not
mathtans
About Headmistress Light... she may have inherited the place? It is sort of named after her.
RebelVampire
yeah her profile says as much
mathtans
Probably not. Unless you get a tax writeoff or something.
RebelVampire
that the place was her father's
mathtans
Ahh, I didn't recall the profiles.
RebelVampire
i assume she actually just cares about kids and knows that as monsters its not like they have anywhere else to go. cause you cant exactly send them to regular orphanages cause they might not understand the concept of not getting caught by a human lynch mob that well
mathtans
Yeah, I kinda feel the same. She also checked out the costumes before going into the town.
RebelVampire
i do think were inevitably going to see mel again. mel had too much potential as an antagonist
and i also think mel would be a good character way to show the human side of things
and how the humans might perceive monsters
and maybe actually show those preventitive measures
mathtans
Yeah, that does seem likely. I wonder what her damage is? Like, just give the weird monsters a chocolate and they'll leave you alone. You can then do all your plotting in secret.
Mel has her own issues, basically. ^^
I liked the explanation for why they went to her house even though they knew she was annoyed with them, btw.
Also, very topical for this time of year.
RebelVampire
yes. not even purposely timed XD
tbh tho i kind of also hope they turn mel into an ally
like show mel look we can go into the video games
and mel is like "ok this is cool i will help you now"
mathtans
Help them what though? Hide out? They've been pretty good at that.
Though it could be funny if Mel can cast spells properly, so Lilith gets advice from her.
RebelVampire
if not mel i do hope we get to see a more competent spell caster that can mentor lilith a bit. although i kind of hope all the kids get mentors. learn to become well-rounded ppl
QUESTION 4. The story is formatted in a way to offer lots of room for interesting scenarios. Are there any sorts of supernatural based scenarios you think might be interesting to see? Alternatively, is there something non-supernatural that you think it’d be interesting to watch the kids go through? Do you think we’ll see any of the antagonists from the previous scenarios again? If so, what do you think will happen? How many of the future scenarios do you think will be caused by Lilith’s magic going awry? Speaking of the supernatural though, what other sorts of cryptids or similar are you hoping to see character wise? Alternatively, is there a character you’ve seen already that you want to see more of based on their cryptid base?
RebelVampire
to answer one of those questions, id really like to see monster schooling. cause that must be a crazy mess
mathtans
I'm just trying to think of who'd be the mentors... might mix things up, have the wolves try to mentor Lilith...
I'm wondering if ghosts are a thing. Or contacting dead people. Particularly if parents are dead.
I hope the Lilith's magic going weird doesn't become a crutch... I liked how it was subverted a bit in the most recent one, where they were able to defeat the enemies.
RebelVampire
yeah. i do hope to see some character and skill growth
cause i really want lilith's magic to be useful at points
and for her to learn to maybe read the whole thing
and not invoke curses
mathtans
I feel like her learning might be a bit of a stretch. Could be interesting if they end up in classes though.
Like, are there spell casting classes?
RebelVampire
maybe
oh you know what i could forsee as a scenario
another witch joining the orphanage
that is way better at magic
mathtans
Ohh, that could be an interesting point.
Or even worse, like, gives Lilith a superiority complex.
RebelVampire
yeah that could happen to
unless the orphanage has that already, another witch. tbf id really like to see more of the kids in general. cause there were a lot of interesting and great designs already(edited)
and it could add to the kid's dynamic as well. like seeing how they interact with the others. cause lilith might not be the only one who's kind of outcasted from the other groups
mathtans
It's true. Maybe all three of the mains are kind of seen as the troublemakers by other kids too. So they end up by themselves.
Just looking at the character page again. It mentions that headmistress light has a power. Maybe she'll end up as a mentor?
Also, I wonder about Annabel there too.
RebelVampire
yeah. annabel i hope we get to see of more too. cause she looks sort of puppet or frankenstein like perhaps? so i want to know what her story is
granted i also want to know about bel too
i especially want to know how eve and hollow feel about bel
cause i assume they know bel exists
mathtans
Yeah, that would make sense.
Like, I would assume they figure he can't control Lilith any more than they can... so hmmm, what use is he?(edited)
RebelVampire
on the opposite end they might feel hes a bad influence on lilith
mathtans
Annabel could be a puppet, that might explain the pose after she fell off the ceiling, I hadn't considered that.
Maybe. Particularly if Bel's, like, reporting back to a witches council or something.
RebelVampire
he might just be a bad influence via not always discouraging lilith's crazy. you could make that argument at least
mathtans
Maybe he's really Lilith's dad in disguise.
RebelVampire
before the chat closes out, i want to add that i agree with super in that the character designs are really fantastic. theres a real great balance of detail and simplicity and i feel like all the designs really match the character theyre for.
mathtans
Dad's kind of a bumbling goof, doesn't want anyone to know. ^.^
Yeah, and I think the characters complement each other really well. Like, the more reserved sensible one, the off the wall random one, and the guy who's prone to excitement and is happy to be doing his best.
Even that second antagonist (if the ones at the start with the vines were the first), the Flame guy, he had some good motivations and things... and "eternal" wasn't just a catchphrase.
Btw, Hollow and Eve seem to share a room... does Lilith have a roommate, you think?
RebelVampire
well bel could technically be considered her roommate
probably just bel
lilith might spell another roommate into accident death
i liked eternal flame guy. he had the kind of over the top personality that is really fun
mathtans
There is always that danger.
RebelVampire
and i also liked that until cthulhu showed up he was op and able to beat children
mathtans
Extreme traits are interesting. Yeah, I liked the line "Oh, uh, are you with them" or whatever it was.
I suppose he could come back too, from the pocket dimension. Maybe he'll help to mentor them.
Anyway, should prove interesting to see what the next storyline is.
