I've been spending a lot of time since s3 came out thinking about how Alex could get more tangled up with Scorpia or how an AU could occur. It's become a bit of a thinking exercise 😆 tricky because TV!Alex has such a strong support network compared to the books. So far my ideas consist of:

- Grendel finishes his drink and confides in Yassen about Julia's personal vendetta. When Alex and Yassen get in the car, Yassen ignores the turn off for Malagosto and then just keeps driving.

- Nile either finishes the job with Tom and Kyra or simply alludes that he has to Alex. This clues Yassen in to Julia's revenge because why would she needlessly hurt Alex that way. Yassen calls some board members and Alex shoots Nile when he corners Yassen mid Scorpia v Scorpia raid. (Extreme angst).

- A book and TV show medley wherein Alex has dealt with some version of Stormbreaker and Skeleton Key between s1 and 2. Alex is struggling, Tom and Kyra are struggling with Alex's danger magnetism and have drifted away a little and so Alex goes to hunt down Scorpia alone (with Kyra perhaps on a different hunt after an argument in an au where they didn't have enough peace time to get as close). Perhaps Malagosto is Venice, or at least a bit more sophisticated simply because I say so.

- Grendel reports Julia because Julia and her faction of Scorpia are the only part that isn't business focused à la Yassen and are ruled by sadism, revenge and other such motivators to a dangerous degree. Grendel was one of them but now that emotion has made him soft and he realises the error of his ways. An intervention occurs. Yassen, pragmatic as ever, simply relocates Alex to continue his training. Perhaps they are both still oblivious to John's true allegiances. Invisible Sword is halted without Alex's interference because it's simply bad for Scorpia 's business dealings with intelligence and also just generally their continued existence (borrowing devil logic here). Alex finally gets some valuable and proper training yay.

Does anyone else have any ideas? I find it so interesting to think about and plot 😆

We are not judging how bad the movie is, we are judging which adapted the book the worst. There are good movies that are bad adaptions.

Mortal Engines:

GIVE HESTER A DEFORMING SCAR YOU COWARDS. But in all seriousness, there was a lot wrong with the adaptation. The book was very cinematic to begin with, with lots of grandeur and intrigue as Tom starts to unpack all the brainwashing he's grown up with. Then the movie turned Hester into a generic girl boss, wiped out all of Tom's character growth to make him a useless sidekick, and took out a lot of the cool world building and political intrigue. Oh, and heaven forbid Hester, who had her face run into with a sword, be in anyway disfigured. Even though Hester being "ugly" was what made me love her so much as an insecure teen girl.

Joyless. Unwilling to actually give the female lead a decent facial scar which is just embarrasing. Shoved in a chosen one narrative where there didn't need to be. Changed the entire ending from tragic to saves the day style shit. Worst of all it's a really niche property and seeing it suck ass is all that most people are ever gonna see of it but the books are So Good. CGI does slap tho

The cool, severely scarred female character is replaced by a girl with a teensy little cut on her face. The robot ethics are removed and the humor is stupid

Stormbreaker:

GOD it sucks the og book series deals with the whole fact that if a 14 y/o schoolboy became a spy he’d have TRAUMA and MISERY and HATE IT AND THE GOVERNMENT TOO but then the movie is like. la de da this is so fun tee hee i love being a spy :))) i hate it. i hate it with the power of 1000 suns why are you trying to make this shit GLAMOROUS. especially i hate the us release poster what IS that

Summary: the battle continues....

The fight was raging on as Clint ran through the battle field, the gauntlet and Stones with him.

“Cap!” He called over the comms. “What do you want me to do with this damn thing?”

“Get those Stones as far away as possible!” Steve ordered.

“No!” Bruce exclaimed. "We need to get them back where they came from.”

“No way to get them back. Thanos destroyed the quantum tunnel,” Tony added.

“Hold on!” Scott interrupted. “That wasn’t our only time machine.” Suddenly, the song La Cucaracha began playing.

“Anyone see an ugly, brown van up there?” Steve wondered, going to higher ground to try himself.

“Yes!” Valkyrie answered. “But you’re not gonna like where’ it’s parked!”

“Scott, how long do you need to get that thing working?” Tony asked.

“Maybe ten minutes,” Scott responded.

“Get it started,” Steve said. “We’ll get the Stones to you.”

“Not until this is finished,” Y/N said. “I need to be able to channel the Stones.” She was blasting the creatures attacking her to bits, trying to reach the Stones.

“Well hurry! You have ten minutes.”

Dr. Strange was finishing up a group of Chitauri when Tony landed beside him. His helmet disappeared as he came closer to the sorcerer. 

“Hey. You said one out of 14 million, we win, yeah? Tell me this is it,” Tony begged.

“If I tell you what happens, it won’t happen,” Strange responded.

“You better be right… Just tell me if Y/N lives.”

“She demanded the same information about you. And I can’t give you what you want either.”

“I just need to know if she survives this. I don’t care about myself or anyone else, I just need to know about Y/N.”

“I cannot tell you.”

“Then promise me you’ll do everything you can to help her and keep her safe.”

Strange sighed, his heart aching the in familiarity of the conversation. “Of course.”

Y/N was trying to be careful with the amount of energy she was using. She knew that she needed to save up for a more crucial moment that laid ahead. As she fought off the army, the gauntlet was being tossed around to whoever was the safest for it at the moment. Y/N could hear the voices of who had it in her ear, but she was far more concerned with the battle in front of her.

“Rain fire!” Thanos’ voice boomed across the battlefield.

Y/N inhaled sharply and looked up at the ship that was preparing to fire. Y/N flew up as they began to fire. She quickly noted at one hit Wanda, flinging her away from where she was fighting Thanos. Angry, Y/N flung her arms out and a giant force field formed between the battlefield and the ship.

“Y/N!” A few voices exclaimed.

Tony flew up, hovering beside her. “Honey, I’m right here. You got this.” He could see the strain on her face as she tried her best to protect everyone. “Let me know when you need me and I’ll be right here to catch you.”

All Y/N could do was nod. Tony rushed back down to join the others.

“Uh, is anyone else seeing this?” Rhodey said.

Strange looked over, noticing that water is rushing from the broken dam. Flooding the battlefield. He hurried over, using his magic to stop the water. While he focused his magic on the water, Strange looked up to see how Y/N was holding up. The force field was still taking fire and Y/N seemed to be handling it okay. But there was really no way of telling from down there.

Y/N had her eye clenched, with really no idea of how she was doing what she was doing. But she knew she couldn’t stop. Taking a shaking breath, Y/N peeked her eyes open to seeing the ship’s cannons change direction. Shooting at something in the sky.

“What the hell is this?” Sam wondered.

“FRIDAY, what are they firing at?” Tony asked.

“Something just entered the upper atmosphere,” the AI answered.

A bright light of thundering energy came surging down as Carol Danvers flew through the ship. The ship exploded, crash-landing into the lake.

“Oh, yeah!” Rocket exclaimed.

“Danvers, we need an assist here,” Steve said. Carol nodded, flying down.

“Y/N, you can come down now,” Tony said as he blasted a creature away. No response. “Y/N?” He looked up. Y/N was still there, the force field slowly retracting. Everyone else paused to look up as well, trying to figure out what was going on. “Y/N, answer me!”

With the force field completely gone, Y/N hovered there for a few seconds. Tired, she tried to regain her strength. But instead, her eyes fluttered closed and she plummeted towards the earth.

“Y/N!!!!”

Tony flew to her, catching his wife and holding her tightly to him.

“I got you,” he whispered. “I got you.”

“Tony…” Y/N rasped, slowly coming to as Tony landed.

“I’m right here.” His helmet disappeared. “Always falling,” he smirked.

She pushed away, signaling for him to set her down. Tony did so, keeping his hands firmly on her waist.

“Are you okay?” He worried.

“I’m fine,” she said. “I just didn’t know I could do that.”

“Let’s not do that again then, okay?”

“Okay.”

“Stay safe.” Tony pressed a kiss to her temple before flying away.

Y/N looked around, trying to sense where the Stones were. Her eyes caught sight of Peter, hugging the gauntlet close to his body. Carol was in front of him, going to help him up. Y/N portaled over.

“I don’t know how you’re gonna get it through all that,” Peter said after he handed over the gauntlet.

“Don’t worry,” Wanda replied, landing beside them.

“She’s got help,” Okoye added.

The rest of the women on the battlefield appeared behind Carol. Y/N smirked, sending Peter a nod and a wink. Carol flew with the gauntlet through the army as the others fought them off. 

“Carol!” Y/N exclaimed. “You can’t send the Stones through yet!” 

“We have to,” Bruce responded. “You heard wh—“

“We can’t! Not yet!! I need them. Give them to me.”

“Y/N, what are you thinking?” Tony asked.

“I’m thinking that it’s time to end this, once and for all. And I can’t do that without the Stones.”

“Do you know what you’re doing, Y/N?” Carol asked.

“I will.”

“I’m on my way back to you.”

But before Carol could get to Y/N, Thanos threw is sword at the van, causing an explosion and blasting Carol away. She lost her grip on the Stones as she did.

“No!” Y/N exclaimed. 

She portaled herself over there only for Thanos to hit her back through. Tony quickly flew into Thanos, tackling him to the ground. The wrestled on the ground for a bit before Thanos tossed Tony to the side, causing him hit his head and get knocked out. Thor flew in next, Stormbreaker held high. With help from Steve and Mjolnir, Thor tried to pin Thanos’ arm down. However, Thanos overpowered them both, knocking them out.

As Y/N finally stood back up, Thanos picked up the gauntlet. Carol got to Thanos before Y/N did, punching at him. She kept punching him, but was grabbed my the arm and flung away. Y/N portaled in front of him right as Thanos slipped on the gauntlet, the gamma radiation eating at him.

“Trying to stop me too, little girl?” Thanos taunted.

“I don’t need to try,” Y/N responded.

Holding out her hands, she willed the Stones to her. Cracking the gauntlet, the Stones ripped out and circled around Y/N. Tony, coming too, noticed the scene and pushed himself onto his hands and knees, his helmet disappearing into his suit. He was panting as he quickly made eye-contact with Dr. Strange, who was still holding the water up. With a shaking finger, Strange signaled that this was the one shot they had. Scared for Y/N’s safety, Tony shot up, going to help his wife. Strange quickly held him back with his magic. 

Tony looked back, desperate. “Let me go.”

“I’m sorry,” Strange responded. “But I promised her first."

“Impossible,” Thanos gasped. He fell back as Y/N slowly floated above him.

“I’ve waited a long time for this day,” Y/N responded. Her voice was soft, yet powerful. God-like even. She could be heard throughout the battlefield without having to raise her voice. “I’ve suffered and I’ve thrived. I’ve waited, and I’ve grown irritated with time. But it’s all worth it because I get to end this… once and for all.”

Spreading her arms out and up, tendrils sprouted from the Stones. They spread out, growing across the battlefield. As the tendrils touched those of Thanos’ army, they turned to dust. Thanos watched for a few moments in shock before growling and standing back up. He grabbed Y/N’s foot, yanking her down to the ground and causing the Stones to fall to the ground as well. She grunted as she tumbled in the dirt and debris before coming to a stop.

“Y/N!” Tony exclaimed, pointlessly trying to fight his way to her.

She was still on the ground when Thanos raised his fist. And he came down to hit her, she portaled to stand behind him.

“You missed,” she taunted through her panting.

Y/N pushed a hand forward, blasting Thanos back into a pile of debris. The Stones floated back to her as she marched towards the Titan. Each Stone found a place on her left arm, burning into her skin without her feeling physical pain.

“14 millions ways,” Y/N said, “yet we only win one… I don’t understand how, especially with the Stones on my side. But it doesn’t matter now. Because this is the one we win. You had no chance.”

“There’s always a chance,” Thanos grunted as he tried to get up.

With a flick of her wrist, Thanos’ limbs were pinned by the debris. He struggled against it as she sauntered closer.

“Unfortunately, I’m afraid you’re all out of chances,” she replied. Y/N held up her left arm, the Stones glowing. “Any last words before I end you and anyone you could possibly be allied with?”

“I am… inevitable."

“And I am your doom.”

Then she snapped her fingers and a blinding white light came over the battlefield.

Thor era intento ad osservare le onde del mare, infrangendosi sulla scogliera della costa norvegese.

Passarono cinque e dolorosi anni: la dipartita di Loki, fu un fardello troppo pesante da portarsi a carico.

Nonostante fosse il Signore dei Fulmini e un valoroso guerriero dell'ormai defunta Asgard...il dolore, la perdita, il rammarico e la vendetta pervasero ogni angolo del suo cuore, pronto a consumarne l'animo.

Non aveva mai dimenticato quel terribile giorno neppure un istante...di recente aveva sconfitto il Macellatore Degli Dei, ma c'era un tassello mancante a cui non smetteva mai di rivolgere i propri pensieri.

Fu proprio quella mattina che accadde qualcosa di assolutamente straordinario...il sole splendeva, portando con sé un nuovo giorno.

I suoi occhi fissarono il cielo di un azzurro così intenso da lasciarlo colmo di ammirazione, a causa della sua bellezza. 

Un rumore di passi felpati attraversarono l'erba: la misteriosa figura si avvicinò a costui, poggiandogli una mano sopra la spalla.

Il Tonante sgranò gli occhi per la sorpresa...dinnanzi a lui si trovava Loki in carne ed ossa.

 Avrebbe voluto abbracciarlo, ma non riusciva a credere che fosse vivo dopo tutto quel tempo a disperarsi per la sua scomparsa. 

Lo aveva ingannato ancora una volta, però si celava una buona ragione per aver compiuto una mossa simile.

Come spiegargli che era rimasto a lungo in esilio su un pianeta remoto dell'Universo? Come spiegargli che ovunque andasse recava dolore, sofferenza e morte?

Togliersi dall'equazione fu una decisone sofferta per il famigerato Dio dell'Inganno...doveva salvarlo dalle grinfie del Titano Folle.

L'altro lo squadrò da capo a piedi: era esattamente come lo ricordava...gli abiti neri, misti ad un verde color bosco e i lunghi capelli corvini scompigliati.

 Non indossava più il suo iconico elmo d'oro a fasciargli il capo, ma solo l'aderente tuta sakaariana ormai logora e alcune cicatrici sul volto, tra cui il taglio sul sopracciglio.

Thor provò a lanciargli una lattina per verificare se fosse solo un'illusione provocata dal subconscio, ma non fu così...il minore l'afferrò al volo senza problemi.

Le iridi dell'Ingannatore erano spente: il guizzo brillante e sagace non esisteva più. 

il Dio non poté far a meno di notarlo: entrambi avevano condotto una vita triste, basata sulla solitudine.

Inoltre, Thor era stato in giro con i Guardiani Della Galassia a fronteggiare viscidi criminali di mezza tacca, prima di compiere il suo imminente ritorno a Midgard.

Dopo minuti interminabili a fissarsi, Loki proferì parola per primo.

"Comprendo perfettamente cosa stai provando, fratello...ma se sono giunto fin qui è per un'unica ragione."

Thor scosse la testa in un cenno di disappunto: aveva patito un atroce dolore...una terribile tribolazione, lasciandosi andare alle più disparate bassezze.

"Come osi palesarti, dopo ciò che ho passato per tutto questo tempo? Come osi ancora rivolgermi la parola?"

Chiese il Dio del Tuono, aggredendolo in maniera feroce...avrebbe voluto scagliargli Stormbreaker con tutta la furia che possedeva in corpo.

Gli occhi del maggiore presero ad illuminarsi: dai palmi delle proprie mani, fuoriuscirono varie saette...una lacrima gli arenò sul viso.

 Lingua D'Argento ebbe la stessa reazione.

"Ti prego, fermati! Posso spiegarti."

Gli supplicò, attivando un campo di forza dai riflessi verdastri. 

Il secondo non demorse...anzi continuò imperterrito, provando ad acciuffarlo.

Loki del resto era agile e scaltro...affrontarlo si rivelava sempre un'impresa ardua.

"Ora basta!!!"

Gridò il Fabbro di Menzogne, ormai stanco della faccenda...scatenò il pieno potere del Seiðr, colpendo il fratellastro. 

Egli cadde al suolo: ma per sua fortuna non perse i sensi.

Gli corse incontro preoccupato, senza indugiare troppo...si inginocchiò verso di lui, riservandogli un abbraccio. 

Thor sfogò le proprie lacrime, ricambiando il gesto.

"Credo sia meglio rientrare...abbiamo molto di cui discutere."

Precisò il primogenito di Odino e Frigga: Loki nel frattempo gli tese la mano per aiutarlo a rialzarsi.

Ma prima di giungere verso casa, Loki pronunciò una frase...una promessa lontana e mantenuta con onore, nonostante le diverse vicissitudini.

 Loki rivolse gli occhi al cielo, tornando infine a guardare la vasta distesa d'acqua che si ergeva dinnanzi ai due Asgardiani.

"Avevo ragione, fratello...il sole avrebbe brillato nuovamente su di noi."

Rispose con una nota orgogliosa nella voce.

Questa è la storia di come due divinità alla deriva riuscirono finalmente a ricongiungersi, compiendo una scelta di eterna fratellanza.

 Nessun destino avrebbe più spezzato il loro legame.

4. Last series you watched: just started watching My Life is Murder S02 today before work (I love how chill it is). Also yesterday I watched a couple episodes of the Alex Rider series which was surprisingly good (I found the books mediochre which might be because I was already an adult when I read them and I thought the Stormbreaker movie was quite bad but the series actually does a good job getting across how much Alex'd prefer to have a normal life while still making his choices believable and I also like that they included Tom early on because Alex needs friends)

5. Sweet, spicy or savoury: savoury and spicy at the same time

6. Craving: Salamibrot (schmier ich mir gleich, wenn ich hiermit durch bin xD)

7. Tea or coffee: Tea if it's a drink, coffee if it's like a cookieflavour or something

just finished Horizon Zero Dawn. Took me about 160 hours because I kept getting distracted from the main quest by all the sidequests, and then I kept getting distracted from the sidequests by all the possibilities just roaming the world and hunting both machines and animals. Somehow though I still have many missing textdatapoints to find and a handful of other data - maybe I'll look them up and collect them at some point, I'd definitely be interested in reading even more stuff. (Just before I started the final battle, I went hunting for awhile to stock up on resources, and randomly found a datapoint sitting in some water - if all the others are as randomly strewn across the world I'm not surprised I've only found a few)

1. favorite song at the moment: Probably "Hauch mich mal an" by Das Lumpenpack I don't listen to music a lot, but I like this song enough to have bought the entire album "Eine herbe Enttäuschung", which contrary to the title is absolutely not a bitter disappointment. It's all thanks to @famburasch-sohn-des-partram sharing a link to their concert stream at the very beginning of the pandemic :D

2. a song you associate with your favorite ship: Not a shipper, not very into music, so I have no answer to this.

3. a song that could be about you: "Sunshine" by Cosmo Jarvis (it hasn't even been warm for that long this year but I'm already sick of it - thankfully today it rained when I rode my bike back home so I could cool off a little)

4. a song you think is overrated: I honestly can't think of one, because when I'm not actively interested in the music that's playing it pretty much just goes in one ear and leaves out the other without leaving a lasting impression.

5. a song that reminds you of a good memory: "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum - they're my uncles favourite band and when they performed near where my mum lives he invited us to go

6. the last song you listened to: "Gay Pirates" by Cosmo Jarvis - one of the songs that are pretty much always in my playlist, because so far I've never felt like I wanted to skip it, when it came on. JUST FINISHED HZD ON ULTRA HARD

and holy shit that endfight was TOUGH! When I started playing the story I checked multiple times whether I had actually chosen ultra hard because thanks to New Game + I already had all the weapons and the highest Level, so it was pretty easy most of the time. I did die here and there along the way, but that was usually due to not paying that much attention to the healthbar (because the machines weren't that much harder to kill, I kinda forgot that they were much stronger so getting hit by them was much worse for Aloy) and one time because I'd forgotten that I wasn't doing the cauldrons and therefore obviously couldn't override all the machines xD.

I'd stocked up on ammo and some healing items but was still woefully underprepared for the final fight on my first try. Maybe it's simply because both the fight against Helis and the one on the Spire happen in such cramped spaces and stealth is absolutely no option. Died so many times in both parts and even got a Game Over for running out of time on the Spire once. I didn't have a problem with the middle bit where you repeatedly shoot Petra's experimental weapon at waves of approaching machines though.

Anyway so after I got checkpointed on the Spire without any health items left and getting more and more frustrated I aborted the mission and spent a bunch more hours hunting boars and other game. Also bought some Adept weapons (only to find out that the Adept Sharpshot Bow isn't as good as the Banuk Powershot, so I didn't even need it - didn't want to go to the Cut to get the Adept Powershot though) which helped a bit. The Adept Blast Sling did considerably more damage than the normal one, the Adept Tripcaster is great in theory but I never got the time to use it in the heat of battle.

On my second try the bit with Helis felt even tougher than the first time around, but after many tries I made it through again. The bit after that felt harder than on my first try as well, but I did make it without dying. And then the Spire. Died again and again and again because of all the chaos, felt like I came pretty close a couple of times but died again. Then FINALLY managed to get the Deathbringer's health down enough to explode one of its guns and got excited in a sort of pessimistic way xD - at that point I had a small handful of the smaller healing potions left and a tiny amount of herbs - I did my best to avoid the attacks, managed to actually chug some small potions when necessary and then blew up the Deathbringer's other gun. There were 46 seconds left on the clock, my heart was racing and my hands were shaking slightly. I only had like two herbs worth of healing power left, but I managed to chuck a few more bombs at the Deathbringer and it collapsed. Didn't even believe it at first because I must have tried to get to that point about 30 or 40 times by then.

Anyway, great game, would recommend, but if - like me - you're more in it for the story, I'd say play on normal or even easy difficulty, because ultra hard mode may be bad for your blood pressure XD

The Giver:

Completely changed the book making a story with great characters and subtle themes into a generic ya dystopia with stupid teen characters and no themes

They turned it into like this teen angst dystopia that missed all the nuance and love that poured into the original book. They were clearly trying to capitalize off of Hunger Games/Divergent and failed miserably. The original book was a message on totalitarian governments and how history repeats itself. It's so frustrating to see movies strip away messages like that and just make it a cash grab.

Shallow interpretation, tried to please everyone, also Taylor Swift was there?

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Will Ospreay [United Empire] d. Kota Ibushi © (Stormbreaker, 30:13) - Ibushi fails his 1st defense of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship - Ospreay is the 2nd champion

Immediately post-match, Jeff Cobb of the United Empire flattened Ibushi with a Tour Of The Islands. I expect there to be a grudge match there soon. Ospreay now holds two titles (including RevPro’s Undisputed British Heavyweight belt), and immediately called out Kazuchika Okada for his first defense, however Shingo Takagi interrupted that, and declared he wanted a shot at it. So, I guess it’s Shingo first, probably at Wrestling Dontaku, then presumably Okada at Dominion.

There is a lot to unpack here. After all the hemming and hawing on the part of both Kota Ibushi and New Japan Pro Wrestling about “becoming God,” unifying the titles, committing to an angle that clearly was not popular, the very first defense of the new title goes to Ospreay, whom Gedo and the bookers clearly like. However, between his antics both on social media, and #SpeakingOut, and the recent angle where he gave an OsCutter to Bea Priestley to show just how much he wanted the title that didn’t even go over well with the fans in attendance, this is a wrestler that has alienated a not-small chunk of the New Japan Pro Wrestling audience. It was clear that at some point, Ospreay was going to be IWGP champion. Nobody really expected it to be now, so soon after Ibushi won and unified the titles. This show was pretty United Empire-centric, however, so maybe we should have seen this coming. The fact of the matter is, NJPW have put their brand new main title on someone that legitimately repulses a portion of the NJPW audience.

The only real positive to take from this, is that historically, brand new IWGP champions generally (GENERALLY) have short first title reigns. Recent examples would include Tetsuya Naito, Jay White and EVIL. Historically, Big Van Vader, Tatsumi Fujinami, Riki Choshu, Shinsuke Nakamura and Masahiro Chono (his only reign, cut short due to injury) all had relatively short first reigns with few defenses. It’s the exceptions that you would expect, that have had more significant first reigns -- Antonio Inoki, Keiji Muto/Great Muta, Shinya Hashimoto, Kensuke Sasaki, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada, AJ Styles, Kenny Omega. Kota Ibushi’s, frankly, is a little more inflated than it actually was, due to all the drama about unification, as well as the 2-night Wrestle Kingdom 15, making it seem longer than it actually was. I’m pretty sure Ospreay is not going to have a long reign, no longer than Dominion. They seem to be following the pattern of Tetsuya Naito c. 2016 with this storyline, so I expect Shingo to fall at Wrestling Dontaku (a la Tomohiro Ishii) with Okada once more winning this title at Dominion. 

To keep up with the United Empire line of thought, the new X member was Toa Henare (so @damascenocs​ was right again), although going back to being billed as Aaron Henare. (I can’t quite seem to locate when and where he quit going by “Aaron Henry” before going to Henare, and then Toa Henare.) There is kind of a gross subtext here, with Henare being a New Zealander, aka a former British colony, and reverting from a “more native” sounding name like Toa Henare to going by a “civilized, colonial name” in Aaron Henare. Like so many things with regard to Will Ospreay, there is a distinct lack of reading the room here. On the other hand, I don’t actually MIND Henare being part of this, they needed to do something with him after just spinning his wheels in opening tag matches and only ever getting wins over Young Lions for the last few years. He has a new finisher too, sort of a Fisherman’s Death Valley Driver, called Streets Of Rage, a name I confess I love. Post-match, O-Khan attacked Naito’s knee with a chair, so I fully expect this feud to go on for a bit.

In other news about new moves, YOH returned to in-ring action today teaming with SHO, and delivered the winning blow to get the IWGP junior tag belts back around RPG3K’s waists. This new move is called Direct Drive, looks like a butterfly brainbuster or DDT (maybe a bit like Death Rider?). YOH then immediately challenged El Desperado for the IWGP Juniorheavyweight title, which would be YOH’s first-ever I believe. I fully expected this scenario to happen, only with SHO instead. But hey, YOH is back and that’s good.

Post-match, Tanahashi put Jay White into a Texas Cloverleaf, but also finally accepted Jay’s challenge for the NEVER Openweight strap. A challenge has been made by a Bullet Club tandem (KENTA, Yujiro, Ishimori) for the NEVER Openweight 6-Man belts held by Ishii/Goto/YOSHI-HASHI. And finally, Taichi demanded NJPW return the Iron Finger from Hell, implying the office has confiscated it. Hmm.

It wasn’t all bad, but the bad taste left by Will Ospreay and the United Empire, after all the hoopla about the IWGP World Heavyweight title, shows this may in fact be a long year for New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The next show is this Saturday, the beginning of the Wrestling Dontaku cycle. No lineups are announced yet. Probably later tonight or Monday sometime.
