the possible future of the hatchetfield series: hatchetfield halloween party livestream full rundown
again apologies if someone has already done something like this, but I’m procrastinating doing my coursework and just want to talk about hatchetfield I want everyone to be aware of this exciting stuff that was announced in the stream so here you go:
the next starkid musical to be released will not be in the hatchetfield universe.
the guy who didn’t like musicals will soon be ready to license.
nightmare time 3 was originally planned to be released in the same year as nightmare time 2 and will wrap up the overarching nightmare time stories (which seem to be miss holloway and the foster sisters respectively).
if they did a fourth hatchetfield musical, it would be about miss holloway and her backstory. it is already written. I am very very extremely normal about this fact 😃
there is a possibility of a hatchetfield movie, and workin’ boys was sort of a test for this concept. it would be a slasher murder mystery centering around the hatchetfield community players (zoey chambers and the cast of workin’ girls, possibly also with ruth, hidgens, alice and any other theatre-oriented characters but that part’s just my speculation). the transcription of the teaser description can be found below the nmt descriptions.
ok so here are the transcriptions of the nmt3 episode descriptions:
Story #1: Bottle Imps
Bill Woodward has been chosen to test CCRP’s latest and greatest product; Bottle Imps. These reality-bending buddies will bring their owner the one thing they desire most. When his new imp, Lovely, leads him to his soulmate, Bill decides to use his magical companion to play matchmaker. But to help Charlotte find the man of her dreams, Bill will have to bend the Imp’s rules. Rules he’s been warned, must never be broken…
Story #2: Frankenruth
Desperate to see a naked body, Ruth Fleming and Richie Lipschitz volunteer at the morgue of St. Damien’s Hospital. Their terrible plan becomes exponentially more terrible, when they become unwitting subjects in the experiments of the body-snatching madman, Doctor Laszlo, who claims to have conquered death itself. If Hatchetfield thought Ruth was bad before, then they will cower before the unspeakable horror of… Frankenruth!
Story #3: Becky Barnes Climbed a Tree
Becky Barnes is on top of the world! Not in a literal sense, of course. She’s deathly afraid of heights. After years of struggle, Becky’s life is finally everything she dreamed it would be. She’s engaged to her high school sweetheart, Tom Houston, and the two have a surprise baby on the way! But, as the couple prepare for the arrival of baby Marie, a shadow from Becky’s past returns to haunt them.
Story #4: Devil’s Night
Tim Houston has a crush. Unfortunately, it’s on his older, mature and totally cool babysitter, Grace Chasity, who he fears will never see him as anything but a snot-nosed little kid. But when a devilish maniac with murderous designs on Grace attacks Hatchetfield the night before Halloween, Tim must protect his beloved, or join the killer’s growing body count. It’s another slashing adventure on the night HE came home… Devil’s Night.
Story #5: (long special episode) Miss Holloween
It’s Halloween in Hatchetfield once again, and Miss Holloway is celebrating the same way she’s done for decades, staving off the horrors that go bump in the night. But when Duke gives her an invitation to his wedding, the dejected Miss Holloway begins to chafe under the terms of a contract forged many years ago. She strikes a new bargain, but unfortunately her creditors are known for their tricks, not treats. Just as Miss Holloway gives up her powers in exchange for a mortal life, a monstrous new threat rears its ugly head. As All Hallows Eve descends, and all Hell breaks loose, Miss Holloway must save the town or die trying… for real this time.
Story #6: (long special episode / season finale) Orb Weaver
Lex Foster had a life once. A home. A boyfriend. Now there is only the road, and her sister, and the fear of the men who are hunting them. As Hannah Foster watched Lex sink deeper into despair, she is certain of only three things: Webby is gone. She cannot help them. They are alone. Elsewhere, an old soldier awakens from a catatonic state. Returned from some unimaginable Hell with a mission. He knows that somewhere, two magical girls require immediate evac… then maybe some coffee.
very important: if you want nightmare time 3, WATCH NIGHTMARE TIME 2. BUY A TICKET TO THE LIVESTREAM. SHOW THAT THERE IS LOVE AND DEMAND AND IT’S WORTH THEIR TIME AND MONEY I AM BEGGING YOU
hatchetfield movie: Cast Party Massacre
The Hatchetfield Community Players. You will never find a cattier troupe of two-faced thespians. But when the blood begins to flow at their latest show’s cast party, they must consider: is there a secret murderer in their midst? And more importantly, who amongst them is a good enough actor to pull off such a performance? Can they set aside their petty squabbles and tangled romances, or is it curtains for this ensemble? Who will survive… the Cast Party Massacre!

I’m having random thoughts again so here are some thoughts on the Fruity Four
Despite her squeamishness after the Russians Ordeal, Robin is an avid fan of unsolved mysteries/true crime. This includes but is not limited to: cryptids, serial killers, unsolved murders, haunted houses. Her and Nancy get close because Nancy loves a good mystery, and they start a book club where it’s just them and they only read Agatha Christie.
People assume that when the Fruity Four are together Robin and Eddie are the chaotic ones, and that is sometimes true but only on days where Steve has a headache or is in some other pain. If Steve is feeling okay then it’s either he and Eddie being chaos children or all three of them and Nancy acts like a disappointed parent while also encouraging Robin to make the boys do crazier things.
Eddie fully corrupts Nancy, even if she doesn’t dress like it. He gets her into Metal and on Stobin Sleepover nights they go out and commit crimes and usually get picked up by Hopper who lets them off with a warning. On the rare occasions that he doesn’t find them, they end up having to call Joyce to come get them because they know that Steve and Robin have been drinking since 2 in the afternoon and physically cannot drive.
Eddie has ADHD and so weighted blankets are his favorite thing, but even better than a blanket is Steve. Steve is touch starved and loves feeling needed. This combines into them laying on the couch during movie nights with Steve fully on top of Eddie.
When the four of them, or six if they can get Jonathan and Argyle to join, all hang out they always end up in a big cuddle pile. The only sleeping position that never changes is Robin spooned up behind Steve. In the future, when she learns that it’s called Jetpacking when a smaller person is the big spoon she gets way too excited about it.
Robin nearly collapses the first time Nancy comes to one of Eddie’s shows actually dressed for the event. She had lost a bet with Steve and she had to let Eddie give her a full make over. Think Sandy’s pants from the end of Grease with one of Eddie’s old shirts cut to all hell and a denim jacket.
Steve and Robin, at their sleepovers, get unbelievably drunk. Depending on the week they had it varies but the go to is wine - Steve hadn’t had wine before Robin that he liked and it makes him giggly, he’d had liquor for a long time but he associates it with his parties from school. If they had a really shitty week they break out tequila and Robin makes margaritas. They each pick a movie that they think will make the other person laugh (half the time Robin picks a stoner comedy and it never fails). By the time they’ve finished the movies they’re very drunk and then the oversharing begins. Steve tells her all about his sex life, Robin tells him all about hers, they share fantasies and plan out how to make them happen together.
Robin gave Steve a music education after Starcourt and Eddie hates it because her education included more pop music, he will credit her for her knowledge of so many female artists though. Before Robin Steve listened to Pat Benetar, Springsteen, maybe some Bon Jovi. After Robin he listened to them too, but he mixed in Blondie, Heart, ABBA, and some Joan Jett. Eddie complains about it, but he still learns how to play Steve’s favorites on guitar and he manages to get the guys to do a metal cover of some of them.
Dustin was so excited when he found out about them dating, most of the kids were (except for Mike because he thinks he’s been cursed to have Steve date people in his life). Dustin is especially excited because he likes to take credit for getting them together, which Robin very vocally disagrees with because she put in a lot of work. The children are soon very not happy about it because they’re disgustingly in love and they have learned too much about their sex life (Robin always laughs when they say this and offers to clarify things because they really know nothing).
When everyone eventually leaves Hawkins the four of them get an apartment together wherever they go. Probably Boston so Nancy can go to Emerson, Robin gets into another Boston college, Steve starts off working at a coffee shop but eventually gets a job at a daycare, and Eddie works at a game store while working on making a name for the band. The job at the daycare is what leads Steve to go back to school, after one of the other teachers comments on how good he is and asks if he had ever considered being a teacher. He starts at a community college and then gets into a full time college after that to get his teaching certificate.
When living together they have strict weekend schedules. Saturdays are bar hopping, usually among the gay bars. Fridays are movie nights where they cuddle up on the couch and get take out and usually get drunk and/or high and just enjoy being together
Eddie and Nancy complain about how they can’t keep any parts of their relationships secret because Robin and Steve have no secrets from each other. (For example, Steve found out that Eddie got a Prince Albert piercing before he could even show him because Robin found out and told him, Nancy tried to surprise Robin with some lingerie and a fancy date night but Steve found out and spoiled it)((secretly they love sharing the SteveRobin megabeing but sometimes it can be annoying having partners that share a brain)

Ghostface Natalie!!!
Angsty, cause I can't think of to much fluff rn:
1. She ends up stabbing R (reader) instead of the victim. And immediately crumbles grabbing onto them and falling to the floor sobbing she removes her mask begging for help from the others but their all to scared of her, as she panics trying to stop the bleeding. I don't like R death but just having Nat panic and feel bad is ❤️
2. Since people like sister Nat from you (with your beautiful writing!) Let me get this out of the way, she's like Sam Carpenter. Older, half sister. Her dad was a killer before her and she just lost it and started killing. But one night at a costume party, she's dragging some asshole of a dude away in the crowd of drunk teens with loud music. And just after she stabs him, right in front of everyone but no one seems to notice, the guy pulls her mask off, she looks up only to see her little sister caught her. (Gonna be an awkward discussion at home ngl 🏃) can also be like non sister, I just know people like her as such.
3. Natalie was staying in your room, she always had to sneak in through the window. She left her lover R, to go with her partner in crime (you pick) to "take care of something" anyway long story short she ends up stumbling and falling through your window on her way back, she was stabbed. Her mask in hand the only person she could think to seek refuge with was her girlfriend/partner/lover, but now you have to face the fact not only is she bleeding on perfectly good carpet, but she's killed people. Your friend's (mostly assholes let's be honest) but you don't want her to die.
Also could I ask for an emoji? To just sign with? I think I'm gonna end up sending a lot of things 😭 (if that's ok!) I love your writing!
A/N: OMG I WANNA WRITE EVERY SINGLE ONE (AND I WILL MAYBE 🤭), but I think I'm gonna start with your first idea!! Actually now that I think about it I might create a little section just for ghostface!au requests. And you can totally have an emoji!!! Just let me know what you picked! <3

MASTERLIST
Scream
Tumblr media
"Natalie!" You happily squealed as soon as you saw your girlfriend walking into the room.
You were at Jackie's house for a sleepover with the whole team and a couple of mutual friends.
Natalie smiled, dropping a heavy backpack on the floor and instantly opening her arms for you "Hi baby" she mumbled while kissing the top of your head. You and the girls planned a fun and quiet night, but what you didn't know was that you currently stood in the arms of the mysterious cold blood murder Ghostface, and you also didn't know that one of Jackie's friends, Matt had a reputation to be a bit of a fuck boy.
And Nat couldn't stand him.
So as soon as everybody arrived at the party, she started targeting him from far away, monitoring his moves.
"Nat! Nat! Stop! Don't tickle me!" You said in between laughs, the two of you were cuddling on the couch "Okay okay I'll stop babe, actually, I forgot to tell you I need to go home earlier" Natalie said with an apologetic look "My mom...I need to check on her" she knew that you were very empathetic of her family situation, and she also knew that if she pulled that card you would let her leave without further questions.
That leads us to this moment, Nat changing outside of the house, from her grungy clothes to black coat and mask in hand along with a sharp knife.
Sneaking back inside, she could hear all of you messing around in the living room, a movie playing combined with soft music.
Nat peeped from the almost closed door, you sat near Lottie and Matt "Pretty" she thought when you smiled at one of Van's jokes "focus nat".
The lights were dimmed and you were distracted, so it was easy for her to sneak in and hide behind the bookshelf.
That's when she decided to attack.
Revealing herself, all the people in the room started screaming and running as far as they could, the adrenaline pumped in Nat's veins, and then she stabbed.
But in the chaos she didn't realize who she stabbed.
At least not until she heard you scream, scream like you never screamed before, it wasn't fear, it was gut wrenching pain.
Your body fell on the floor, blood, lots of blood splashed everywhere and Natalie's eyes widened
"no no no" she mumbled in panic while getting closer causing you to scream more, at that she instantly took off her mask "No no no baby it's me, it's just me I didn't mean to... I...let me help please, please baby..."
At that you could believe your eyes, your beautiful, kind and loving girl was ghostface? Like THE ghostface, a murderer!?
And just like you, everyone in the room was shocked, so when Nat asked, or more like begged them to help her they all just stared at her paralyzed.
You were so weak and the blood wasn't stopping, she cradled you in her arms for a while, until you passed out, and she cried and cried terrified that she just lost you forever.
You woke up in a hospital bed, beeping of machines and the smell of sanitizer lingered in the air, your mind was blurry and the memories of the night scattered in your head, but you did remember one single thing clearly
Natalie was the ghostface.
And you didn't know where she was now, if she was arrested or if she ran away, either way, you stared at the white ceiling, thinking of everything that happened and everything that changed in the moment ghostface pointed her knife at you.

ok, i'm game now Some theories and predictions after episode 4: -it is too often implied that the murderer is a woman, so i'm pretty sure that the murderer is a man. My top of suspects at the moment is something like: 1. Cliff, with his mother aware of his crime and covering him (i'm not sure whether it's a great addition to the whole parend-child storyline or a bit hackneyed as it has some parallels with Teddy&Theo story). May had an affair with Ben, may commit it to impress his mother and create something his own *Donna killing Ben in order to protect her son is also more than possible, it ruins the idea of "the say it's a woman so it's a man", but quite fits 2. Dickie - (crime of passion because of Ben eating cookies) any reason??? 3. Jonathan. Well, he was his understudy, sounds like a motive. OR maybe he tried to kill him for the first time, but he wasn't his killer after all 4. Tobert. Well, I think that they won't do the main hero's love interest the killer again, but if they do, he is kinda creepy and it's more likely to be him than Joy (who has already became a prime suspect) or Loretta Howard is cute in his own strange way, i don't believe it's Howard -The person who poisoned him and the person who was the reason he fell into the elevator shaft are two different people???? -I 1000% agree with the theory that Ben was speaking to cookies -In the first season it was Mabel's childhood friend who was killed and the story from their past, in the 2nd season Charles' father was on the painting, so the mystery is somehow connected to Oliver's past as he's already portrayed as the leading part in this season (but maybe his previous theatrical failures and his worries about the show is already such point, still there will be more flashbacks) -Poor Oliver will have a heart attack at the most inappropriate moment, probably in front of Mabel and Charles, making them, Will and all of us experience our own heart attack. Probably as a cliffhanger. I think in the episode 7 or 8. He lives, of course, but I'm ready to cry my eyes out -And creates the idea of final banger of the show (or thinks about killer's identity. or both) during clinical death. In the episode with his narration and some flashbacks. Creates another chaotic masterpiece and continues his work on the show almost immediately. Maybe agrees (with the face full of sorrow and whining) to quit dips if Will asks but never gives up on show and investigation. Then constantly boasts about his "death" like one of his acquaintances and says Ben beaten him. It's the most Oliver Putnam thing ever -I HATE the theory of Charles murdering Ben being in the white room and I'm sure it won't be true BUT this theory may be mentioned in the show. Like they'll finally find out it's not true, but suspect it at some point, Charles is not sure if he actually hasn't kill Ben, and maybe it will in some way be the thing that triggers Oliver's heart attack???? -I actually like the theory of Loretta being Dickie's mother, especially after the look he gave her at Look for the light. She's not a murderer, but the prime suspect for one or two episodes -Joy is also obviously pretty innocent, but Charles and her break up -Final episode will be more like season 2 than season 1: the true murder will be revealed only in the last ep. during another scene with Poirot-like false accusations. According to the trailer, with detective Williams there in the theatre, but maybe this takes place a bit earlier and the true killer revealed in another scene -Murderer reveal party is paralleled to and shown together with the episodes from the musical -This Mabel's wedding scene is either season 4 flashforward or staging used to reveal the murderer. I'd like to see the Theo as at least fake husband, but i think it will be Tobert. MAYBE the wedding will be aimed to expose Tobert himself, but I still believe he's too obvious to be the killer -Oliver and Loretta break up, but on a happy note grateful to each other, and Loretta finally goes to "take Hollywood by storm" after the show
(and Oliver and Charles end up together) -Mabel finishes podcast and then takes Cinda's job offer and moves out, still mantaining cute relationship with her old boys well it was a lot….

You have been invited to a charming soirée at the Trevor manor. The only catch is, someone has just been found dead, and everyone is a suspect.
A murder mystery rp group
Lord Howard Hawthorne aka the victim was Victor Trevor's business partner, but Victor isn't the only one with ties to the recently-deceased. Among the guests, there are those who could have played a key role in the murder, but there is only one killer. The Detective who is also attending the event has taken charge of the situation, and will not allow anyone to leave the manor's premises until the killer has been identified. At any rate, it's not as if the guests could run very far; the manor is set amongst acres worth of empty lands and fields in the Highlands, with the nearest village an hour's drive away. It's anyone's game when it comes to hiding personal motives and scrambling for alibis, in a bid to avoid being pinned for a coldblooded murder. Needless to say, it's going to be a very long night.
And here we have the key players.
ROLECALL;;
The Detective: The main sleuth, and close friend of the host, trying to tie the pieces of this grizzly murder together. To think they wanted the night off.
Status: FILLED Name: Sherlock Holmes @shxlmes File
The Music Conductor: The leader and piano accompaniment of the string quartet which has been entertaining the guests with delightful chamber music all evening. He also happens to be Victor Trevor's loving partner.
Status: FILLED Name: Peter Smith-Kingsley @pxnandqxll File
The "Happy" Couple: A pair of lovebirds who are deeply devoted to one another, or so people think. Perhaps behind their faithful façade, all is not as it seems. Rumor has it one of them has been fooling around with a certain Young Socialite for quite a while. Or was it a Femme/Homme Fatale?
Status: FILLED Name: Aislin McLeod @fantasiesandfolklore File Name: John Constantine, alias: Charles Jonathan Cavendish @seekingsolidground File
The Young Socialite: The young and carefree socialite who’s climbing up the social ladder, and perhaps even into certain beds; namely that of the man who was alive an hour ago. They feel like the world is theirs to claim and ready to risk it all.
Status: FILLED Name: Elijah “Remington” Floquet @exquisitexagony File
Femme/Homme Fatale: A sly seducer who can easily wrap any guest round their little finger.
Status: FILLED Name: Cecelia Holmes @consultingsister File
The Staff: Never discount the staff, as they have eyes and ears everywhere. They may even know more than the host himself.
Status: FILLED Name: Sakura Tsubaki @survivics File
The Secret Reporter: Closed parties be damned. What better place to get their next scoop?
Status: FILLED Name: Richard Oliver Mayhew @richardxoliverxmayhew File
The Red Herring: A shady character who is grey to their core. They don’t seem to care whether or not they make an enemy or two this evening.
Status: FILLED Name: Tom Ripley @retrograderesemblance File
The Lawful: The supposedly lawful character (i.e. a lawyer, soldier, judge or doctor) who harbors a secret from their shameful past they’re trying to hide.
Status: FILLED Name: Illya V. Kuryakin aka Isaiah V. Kress @siberianwarriors File
RULES;;
Once every role has been filled, all members (including myself) will be assigned a number. I will then run the numbers through a random number generator, and whichever number comes out will be that of The Killer, who will then be informed privately by me as to their secret role. IMPORTANT: The Killer shall not under any circumstances reveal their role to other members in or out of character, as this will only lead to their own downfall (i.e. you will be REMOVED from the group if you do this lol just be cool. You'd be ruining the whole point of the murder mystery otherwise).
Anyone can join; All Fandoms, Canons & OCs, as long as you regularly contribute to the group's threads in character. This is going to be a relaxed thing, but completely silent members will be replaced.
OOC Drama will get you removed from the group. No exceptions.
Duplicate Fcs are not welcome; it would make things far too confusing.
Group Verse Tag is V; The Manor Mystery Track for threads and updates.

audience question: what books/movies would you give (or have given) your kids to become their formative media? i'm interested to see what makes the cut 👀
--
I'd let them have access to my library. If it's a book, I'll let them figure out when they're ready to handle it.
(Works fine as long as you're a decent parent and answer questions that come up without being a weirdo about it and freaking them out so they never ask you anything again.)
For films and other things... hmm... it's tricky because all of the formative tings for me were the genre I'd call Weird Art Films About Weird Sex.
If my kid were shaping up to be that kind of weirdo at 14, maybe I'd leave some of these around, but I think it would be pretty intrusive to thrust them upon anybody outside of a film school seminar. Maybe Harold & Maude. My parents rented that when I was a tween. It made An Impression. It's rare for me to see something even two or three times, but Harold and Maude I've seen dozens.
I still think the opening to Harold and Maude is one of the best of any film:
youtube
You immediately know what kind of people both of these characters are and that this isn't going to be a simple comedy, dark or otherwise.
The first time I watched it, I knew nothing about the film and was surprised at both this and all of Harold's other antics. It's hilarious until it isn't. It's a movie about zest for life vs. wanting to die, and it walks an interesting line tonally. I remember rewatching it to show it to friends in college... and for the first time understanding that look Harold gets when he sees Maude's arm.
--
There was definitely media I loved pre-puberty, but the things I remember are all like Nancy Drew.
I consumed vast quantities of mystery, and it's probably why I'm a mystery novelist today, but I don't remember anything specific that feels formative in other ways. I wouldn't try to stop a kid from reading trash. I remember how infuriating it was to have adults constantly trying to make me read something "better" than Nancy Drew. But I wouldn't specifically hand my kid those or any of the other formulaic junk series (Sweet Valley High et al.). They'll find whichever ones are popular at the time just fine.
--
There's a very particular feeling of my brain lighting up that I remember mostly from my teen years. Those media made me quiver and have to pause the movie. I felt seen or maybe I felt too much to handle. That's the feeling I associate with formative media for me.
Here are the ones that instantly spring to mind even after all this time:
Velvet Goldmine - Music fan investigates the glam rockers of his youth, meditating on his sexual awakening and trying to solve the mystery of where one of them went. Ewan McGregor's tweet is the sequel. I will accept no other outcome.
Crash - James Spader at the peak of his beauty falls into the world of car crash fetishists who are dealing with the ennui of modern life and the alienation of the big city and technology by becoming perverts. Contains people going down on scars and tattoos, fetishy leg braces, and what teen me assumed was homoerotic subtext. (Spoiler: it was not subtext.)
Matador - A serial killer murders her victims like a bullfighter would; she stalks her favorite retired bullfighter who is also a serial killer. Antonio Banderas plays a dweeb like always in Spain. (The rest of Almodóvar's 80s and 90s movies were also favorites.)
Kissed - The fluffy necrophilia movie
The City of Lost Children - Less horny, but what is up with Miette and One's vibe? Visually a feast. Ten times the movie Amélie is. Sorry, not sorry.
Cemetery Man - Rupert Everett kills zombies in this bizarre Italian horror movie based on a comic book character drawn to look like Rupert Everett. My stepfather thought it looked like something I'd like and rented it for one of my birthday parties in high school. Around the time of the quasi necrophilia sex scene I realized 1. he'd chosen well and 2. he had clearly not read the back too carefully.
The Pillow Book - Japanese-Chinese novelist named after Sei Shonagon has a battle of literary wits with the publisher who blackmailed her father into sex with him. Involves a lot of calligraphy on naked men, including Ewan McGregor.
Sex, Lies & Videotape - Unfulfilled housewife has her world turned upside down when her shitty husband's college best friend comes to visit. This dude has become unable to be with women after a bad breakup and interviews and videotapes women discussing their masturbation habits for his own private use. Contains a famous and stupid quote about men falling in love with the people they sleep with and women becoming more and more attracted to the people they love, but the movie is far less gender normative than the character saying that.
Tesis - Uptight film student who pretends not to like violence decides to do a thesis on violence in Spanish media. Her advisor dies while watching a mysterious tape he got from somewhere. She steals it, finds out it's a snuff film, and investigates with the help of a creepy horror film nerd.
The best scene is when they're watching some violent shit she asked him for ("for her thesis") and she says "What kind of people watch this stuff?"
He answers: "You, for example."
That one I discovered when my roommate in Japan was watching it a couple of years after college. Many of these I saw in high school. That's the range where I remember things being particularly formative. Or maybe it's about what I'm open to at different points in my life: I think weird art films can still make me feel too much, but I don't always like that feeling, and I don't seek them out as much now.
Knife+Heart made me flash back to that era though. It's a neon-drenched period piece about a lesbian director of artsy gay male pornos investigating a serial killer targeting her actors. The sheer levels of meta insanity and horny murder scenes, my god!!!
Running through all of these are themes of ambiguous sexuality, often queer but also non-genitally-focused, massive quantities of voyeurism, meditations on what it means to be a fan, and a boatload of death=sex=death vibes.
--
That's not quite what you asked, but basically, my own formative media isn't something I'd share with just anyone. If people want to watch necrophilia-filled art films of the 90s, I think they need to choose that for themselves.
I guess all that access to Beatrix Potter and watching basically no TV other than Mystery! or Masterpiece Theater (i.e. UK costume dramas catering to a teaboo market and co-funded by the US) during my early childhood had an effect. So did going to schools where we studied Asian American history and read Dragonwings.
None of those media stand out. I'd share them with my kid, but one example is as good as another. Knives Out delivers substantially the same experience as most of them. Watching whatever anime is hot now will be as good as watching the anime I liked when I was young.

Streets of Shadow: A Dragon Age Table Top Campaign
Tumblr media
"The city of Highmire sits atop a mountain pass at the border between the Free Marches and Nevarra. This town controls much of the trade between the two countries, and its success was not so easily granted. Over the last several years, the trade empire that flows through the bottleneck of Highmire has been built out of the shadows of corruption and exploitation. After the accidental murder of one of the city’s most beloved and cherished artisans, a rebellion is brewing in the shadows. Their anger in turn is being fueled by a mysterious killer who has begun targeting wealthy merchants in the upper-class district of the city. It is up to the party to get to the bottom of this mystery and figure out what’s going on in Highmire. Will they see this killer as a heroic vigilante or a serial killer that must meet his end?"

a/n: i haven’t watched scream 6, so most of this is based off of tiktok/scream wiki pages. i’ll be updating this story sporadically as i am a college student. this story is also posted on my wattpad @beomnalwonnie. I recommend reading it there because the aesthetics are much better.

chapter one
The frat house was alive with the energy of the Halloween costume party. The walls were shaking from the blaring music, and the air was thick with the mingling scents of cheap beer and sweat. The guests were decked out in a myriad of costumes, ranging from classic vampires to modern pop culture icons.
Dahlia sauntered in fashionably late, her Juliet Capulet costume billowing behind her, heads turned to take in her breathtaking beauty. The intricate lacework of her dress was a masterpiece, transporting her straight from the 21st century back to the 1960s, and her hair was styled with long extensions, gold headband pushing her soft hair away from her face. Her makeup was flawless, completing her stunning look, and she felt confident and ready to party.
As she weaved through the throngs of people, she felt the weight of curious gazes on her back. She brushed off the feeling and made her way to the kitchen, intent on quenching her thirst.
Ethan, dressed in a homemade costume as the brown knight from the cult film Murder Party, nervously stood in the corner of the crowded Halloween party. His cardboard helmet obscured his face, but his eyes were fixated on the girl who had just walked into the kitchen. She was talking with her friends, wearing a sparkling, gold dress that caught the dim lighting perfectly. Her beauty left Ethan in awe, and he couldn't take his eyes off her.
Chad, his best friend, noticed Ethan's gaze and followed it to Dahlia, whom he knew as Sam and Tara's new roommate. He nudged Ethan and grinned, urging him to go talk to her. But Ethan was hesitant, his nerves getting the best of him. "She's too beautiful," he protested, "I'll just embarrass myself."
Rolling his eyes, Chad said, "Come on, man, just go say hi. What's the worst that can happen?" Ethan took a deep breath, considering the possibility. He knew he should talk to her, but the fear of rejection held him back. As he debated with himself, he watched the girl and her friends laughing and having a good time.
As Dahlia closed the cooler, she sensed someone watching her. She looked up and saw a tall, handsome stranger staring at her from across the room. Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly looked away, trying to play it cool. She couldn't help but feel drawn to him, even though she didn't know who he was. Ethan felt a bolt of electricity shoot through him when his eyes met hers. For a moment, he was paralyzed, lost in her gaze. She quickly looked away, sending him a shy smile and a small wave. Ethan's heart raced as he considered making a move. He could feel the warmth of Chad's encouragement, but the fear of rejection held him back.
But before she could gauge his reaction, her roommate Tara greeted her, pulling her onto the dance floor and away from the mysterious stranger. Dahlia felt a pang of disappointment but tried not to let it show. She knew that she couldn't let herself get too attached to a stranger at a party, no matter how handsome he was.
swaying to the beat of the music, Dahlia couldn't help but think of the cute boy she made eye contact with in the kitchen. Who was he, and why was he staring at her with such intensity? The question lingered in her mind as she lost herself in the revelry of the party.
Getting lost in the music, Dahlia hadn't noticed Tara being pulled away by Jason. She had heard some rumors about him from her roommates, but she had never really paid attention. Now, as she watched him whispering into Tara's ear and leading her away from the party, a sense of unease settled in her stomach.
"shit," Dahlia muttered under her breath. She sends a quick text before taking a deep breath and pushed her way through the sea of drunken college students, each seemingly more oblivious than the last.
Jason was known for being a serial dater, charming girls with his good looks and smooth talk, only to dump them unceremoniously once he got what he wanted. Dahlia had always been wary of guys like him, but she couldn't deny that he had a certain charisma that made him hard to resist.
As she scanned the party for her friend, Dahlia noticed a group of guys gathered in the corner, watching Jason and Tara with interest. They looked like trouble, and she had a feeling that something bad was about to happen.
Without thinking, Dahlia made her way over to the group, her heart pounding in her chest. "Hey," she said, trying to sound confident. "What's going on over there?"
The guys turned to her, and for a moment, she thought they were going to ignore her. But then one of them spoke up. "Just watching Jason work his magic," he said, smirking.
Dahlia felt a wave of disgust wash over her. She knew she was in over her head, but she couldn't let them hurt her friend. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she pushed her way through the dense crowd, her eyes darting around the room as she searched for Quinn. The pulsing beat of the music and the throng of drunk, sweaty college students only added to her growing anxiety.
Finally, she spotted Quinn in the kitchen, chatting with a group of girls. "Quinn!" she exclaimed, breathless. Quinn turned to her, her face contorting in concern at Dahlia's distressed expression. "What's wrong?" she asked.
"Tara," Dahlia gasped. "Jason's got her. I texted Sam, but I need your help to get her."
Quinn's expression hardened with determination, and she shoved her solo cup into the hands of the blonde next to her, spilling some of the contents in her haste. "Let's go," she said firmly, following Dahlia's lead.
As they arrived on the scene, they saw Chad shoving Freddie away from Tara, his face twisted in anger. "Get your hands off her," he spat.
"What the hell is wrong with you? I was fine!" Tara exclaimed, her voice rising in anger.
Chad turned to face Tara, his own anger still seeping off him. "He was going to take advantage of you!" he replied, his voice tense and firm.
Tara's eyes widened in disbelief, and she couldn't help but feel offended by Chad's accusation. "I can handle myself," she retorted, her voice shaking with frustration.
Chad's expression remained stubborn as he replied, "I saw the way he was looking at you. He was only interested in one thing, and I wasn't going to let that happen."
Tara's anger only intensified at Chad's words. "You don't get to decide what's best for me, Chad. I can take care of myself," she shot back, her voice laced with irritation.
Behind the two, Quinn's eyes narrowed at Freddie, who was now backed against the wall, looking smug. "What the hell were you thinking?" she snapped.
Freddie shrugged, trying to play it off. "I was just having some fun," he said with a smirk and pushed himself off of the wall, ready to walk away from the situation, but Chad wouldn't let him go.
Chad's grip on Jason's shoulder tightened, and Jason winced in pain. He tried to push Chad's hand away, but Chad's strength was too much for him. "Come on, man, let me go," Jason pleaded, his voice trembling with fear and anger.
As the two of them argued, people began to take notice, whispers replacing the booming sound of the music. Some of them tried to intervene, but Chad was not backing down. Tara felt herself growing increasingly embarrassed by the scene, and she pushed Chad away from Jason.
"Stop it, both of you!" she exclaimed. "This is ridiculous. Jason wasn't doing anything wrong, and Chad, you need to calm down."
Chad was still fuming, but he backed off at Tara's words. "I was just trying to protect you," he said, his voice still raised.
"I don't need your protection," Tara snapped back, her own anger flaring.
Dahlia watched the exchange with growing panic. She felt like she was suffocating, her heart racing and her hands shaking. She knew she needed to get out of the party before she had a full-blown panic attack. She bolted for the door, her eyes darting around frantically as she tried to find an escape.
As she stumbled outside, she almost ran into Sam, Tara's sister. "Hey, where's Tara?" Sam asked, looking concerned.
Dahlia struggled to find the words to respond. Her mind was racing, and everything sounded muffled and distant. She pointed back to the party, where the commotion was still unfolding. Sam nodded in thanks, but Dahlia was already on her way out of the house sitting down on the porch, gasping for breath as she tried to calm herself down.
Throughout the entire encounter, Ethan couldn't help but keep his eyes on Dahlia. Sure, he knew it was creepy to stare, but he was so captivated by her that he simply couldn't look away. From the moment he saw her soft smile while dancing with Tara, to her panicked face when she realized who Tara had taken company with, Ethan couldn't help but feel a strong desire to protect her. He felt a strange connection with her, almost like they were meant to cross paths.
While watching the events unfold, Ethan's face hardened with anger at the sight of Dahlia's distress. He didn't even know this girl, yet the thought of her feeling upset made something deep inside him bubble with a fierce protectiveness. He kept his cool, though, as he watched Tara's face of confusion turn into anger when Chad grabbed onto Jason's shoulder. Ethan couldn't help but notice how protective Chad was of Tara; he clearly had a thing for her.
Things began to escalate, and Ethan let his gaze fall back to Dahlia, who was now looking around frantically. He felt a sudden urge to comfort her, to make sure she was okay. Without hesitation, he abandoned his drink, which was rather disgusting anyway, and followed her out of the frat house.
As he hurried after her, Ethan couldn't help but feel a sense of exhilaration mixed with nerves. He had never been the type to approach a girl like this before, but there was something about Dahlia that made him want to try. He caught up to her as she was sitting on the porch steps, fiddling with her fingers and softly talking to herself. "Hey," he said softly, trying not to startle her. "Are you okay?"
Dahlia turned to him, her eyes wide with surprise. "Oh, um, yeah, I'm fine," she stuttered, trying to regain her composure. "I just needed some air."
Ethan nodded, sensing that there was more to her distress than simply needing fresh air. He took a step closer to her, noticing the way she flinched slightly. "Look, I know we don't know each other, but I couldn't help but notice that you seemed upset back there," he said, gesturing back to the frat house. "Is there anything I can do to help?"
Dahlia's eyes flickered with gratitude as she looked up at him. "Actually, that's really kind of you. I felt like I was suffocating, and I needed to get out of there," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan nodded sympathetically, remembering how his own anxiety had caused him distress in the past. He had always been shy and introverted, struggling to socialize and make friends. But there was something about Dahlia that made him feel comfortable, like he could open up to her without fear of judgment.
"I get it," he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. "If it's any consolation, I really like your princess costume." As he spoke, he couldn't help but notice how her dress flowed around her, the gold complementing her honey colored skin. If she was a star, she would be the brightest one in his galaxy.
Little did he anticipate the girl's gentle laughter in response. The sound was akin to the delicate tinkling of bells, resonating through the air and infusing his heart with a sense of warmth. For a moment, he sat there, utterly captivated by the sweet sound, committing it to memory as best he could.
He snapped back into reality when she said, "Thanks, but I'm actually dressed up as Juliet from Romeo and Juliet." Ethan's face scrunched up in confusion as he thought back to his freshman year of high school. Surely, he remembered something from the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo. "Is she not a princess?" he spoke, his brow furrowing.
He looked at her and the way she hugged her small body. Her head leaning on her knees for support. "Not really, no," Dahlia responded softly and continued, "she's just wealthy."
"Oh," Ethan spoke, feeling a bit foolish. He cursed his younger self for not paying better attention in English during its Shakespeare unit. There was a small silence before Dahlia spoke up.
"Your costume," she started and turned her body to fully look at him. "What is it supposed to be exactly?" Ethan gave her a small smile. "It's a character from a horror movie, Murder Party. You wouldn't know it if you're a casual horror fan."
Dahlia nodded and took a deep breath. "So you're a horror geek," she said with a small smirk.
Ethan's face began to feel hot from her comment and he had to look away so she couldn't see the blush that was beginning to form on his cheeks. He regretted not having told her it was some stupid last-minute costume. Dahlia noticed his tense nature and felt a bit guilty. "Hey, I'm not making fun of you," she started softly. "I was only teasing. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."
Ethan let out a small laugh, trying to ease the tension. "No worries, I'm just easily embarrassed," he said with a shrug.
Dahlia nodded and they fell into a comfortable silence. Ethan couldn't help but steal glances at her, taking in the way her hair fell in front of her face softly and the way her eyes sparkled in the dim light. He felt drawn to her, like a moth to a flame. He opened his mouth to say something, but was interrupted by the sound of his phone buzzing in his pocket.
Muttering an apology he quickly pulled out his phone to see multiple texts coming from Chad, asking where he was and letting him know everyone was about to leave.
Before he could say anything to Dahlia, Ethan watched as the front door slammed open, revealing the Carpenter sisters in the midst of a heated argument. Tara was trying to walk away from Sam, who was yelling after her.
"Tara, please," Sam pleaded, desperation creeping into her voice. I don't want to see you hurt."
Tara stopped in her tracks, her eyes flashing with anger as she whirled around to face Sam. "You don't get to tell me what to do," she spat, wrenching her wrist out of Sam's grasp. "You don't get to waltz back into my life after five years and act like you know what's best for me."
Dahlia winced at the venom in Tara's voice, and she could see the hurt and confusion etched on Sam's face. Her gaze flickered between the sisters as if trying to decide whether or not to intervene.
Ethan shifted his weight uncomfortably, not wanting to intrude on the sisters' argument. It wasn't long before someone else emerged through the door, his roommate Chad pushing through eyes searching as if he was looking for someone.
As Chad approached, Ethan couldn't help but feel a little frustrated. He had been so close to having Dahlia's attention all to himself. "You were here the whole time? I was wondering why I couldn't reach you," Chad said with a hint of annoyance. Ethan nodded casually, trying not to show any signs of discomfort. He turned his attention back to Dahlia, only to find her looking up at Chad with a soft smile. It was the same smile he had been hoping to receive from her.
"Hey Chad," Dahlia greeted him warmly. Ethan couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. He wanted Dahlia's smile to be reserved for him, not for his roommate.
"Hey Dahlia. I see you've met my roommate," Chad said, grinning at Ethan. Dahlia met Ethan's gaze and a playful smile graced her lips, causing his heart to skip a beat. The two sisters' argument that had been raging just moments before was now forgotten.
"Yeah. He's a bit mysterious though. He hasn't told me his name," Dahlia said, still smiling at Ethan.
Ethan blushed once again, feeling a little flustered. He held out his hand for her to shake. "Ethan Landry. Though I could say the same for you, Juliet," he said, attempting to make a joke. Dahlia giggled softly and shook his hand. Their handshake lasted longer than it should have, both of them caught in a trance.
But their moment was interrupted by the shouting sisters once again. "I'm just trying to look out for you," Sam argued.
"Well, don't!" Tara exclaimed, clearly agitated.
Chad coughed awkwardly and moved past Dahlia and Ethan, trying to break up the Carpenter sisters. His eyes darted around, taking in the scene unfolding before him. More people started to walk out of the Frat house, the party seemingly moving somewhere else. The air was filled with the distinct smell of alcohol and sweat, and the thumping music made it hard to hear anything else.
As Chad tried to intervene, Anika and Mindy made their way towards the commotion. Anika excitedly ran towards Dahlia and hugged her from behind. "How are you Dahlia? I saw you leave earlier. I wanted to chase after you, but someone kept me busy." she said, slightly smirking up at Mindy, who only rolled her eyes at her girlfriend's implications.
Dahlia smiled warmly at Anika's affection. "I'm alright. I had good company–" She heard everyone collectively gasp and turned her attention to the unfolding drama. Sam had been drenched by a group of girls walking past, the alcohol staining her clothes and hair. "What the fuck?" Sam exclaimed, looking at the girl who had poured her drink all over her.
"You know what you did," the girl smirked.
With fury in her eyes, Sam shoved the girl by her shoulders and pushed the remaining alcohol bottles in her hand, causing them to smack into the ground and shatter. The sound of glass breaking reverberated through the air, and everyone turned to look at the scene unfolding before them.
"You'll pay for that," the girl hissed, her voice low and menacing.
"I don't think I will," Sam responded, her smirk never leaving her face.
Dahlia winced at the tense atmosphere and made her way over to Sam, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Let's just go, Sam. It's not worth it," she said softly, trying to defuse the situation.
Ethan watched the scene unfold, the feeling of protectiveness towards Dahlia returning. He couldn't stand the idea of anything happening to her. Anika noticed the look on his face and nudged him with her elbow. "Hey, are you okay?" she asked, concern evident in her voice. Ethan nodded, trying to shake off the feeling of jealousy and possessiveness he had towards Dahlia.
Sam took a deep breath, her fists clenched at her sides. After a moment of hesitation, she nodded and allowed Dahlia to lead her away from the confrontation. As they walked away from the party, Dahlia turned to Ethan, who had walked up to them.
Ethan pulled out a pack of tissues, holding them out to Sam. "Um, I have tissues if you want tissues," he said, realizing his mistake as he looked down at his hand. "I mean, I have three tissues."
Dahlia smiled warmly at Ethan's awkwardness, and Sam took the tissues, beginning to wipe the drink off her chest.
Just then, Anika exclaimed, "I don't know about you all, but I'm about to pass out!" She grabbed onto Dahlia's arm and asked Sam, "Do you mind if we stop by your apartment?"
Sam stopped wiping momentarily, looking at Anika with a sense of resignation. She didn't really have much of a choice. "Sure," she said with a sigh, nodding in agreement.
Anika was already pulling Dahlia along with her, and she turned back to Ethan. "You too, Ethan!" she said excitedly. Mindy, Anika's girlfriend, gave her a look of disbelief and said, "What the hell?" But Anika ignored her and continued to walk, "Come on, it'll be fun!" with Dahlia right beside her, following behind Tara and Chad.
As they walked away, Dahlia couldn't help but feel a sense of unease in the pit of her stomach. She knew that things were only going to get worse from here on out.

I feel in my soul that Astarynne host killer NYE parties. Please tell me what they’re doing and how they’re celebrating.
Babe you're so right. I've decided to stick with a more Modern!AU because idk how holidays work in Faerun LOL.
First, what you have to understand, is that Astarion hosts this party and Brynne helps. I feel like Christmas is emotionally fraught for him, especially when he has a family - he has a great time, but it really chokes him up, too, so he needs to go all in on the NYE party to shake it off.
There is always a different theme and he makes it everyone's problem. Your invitation will come with a mandatory dress code. Sometimes, if the theme calls for such, your invitation might arrive within a package that provides a prop, a costume piece, or a puzzle to decipher the location and/or theme. But don't worry, you don't have to bring anything except yourself.
And this party is a production. These people have hired in catering and a band (Brynne's always in charge of arranging the music and the food; also she likes to make desserts and snacks herself). There's an open bar. You'd think there'd be a champagne pyramid, but Astarion knows his wife too well for that (she'll knock it over).
These two are impeccably (but not over) dressed and you know Astarion picked out the outfits and did Brynne's hair. Yes, there is absolutely a dance floor and Astarion makes damn sure that he and Brynne are the stars for the first song. Also they both love puzzles and things to do, so expect activities like mischievous scavenger hunts, escape room puzzles, or murder mysteries. Solving things before midnight earns you little prizes! Knick knacks, accessories, small bottles of special wine or craft beer or something.
Forget watching the ball drop, though, when the time comes. Astarion and Brynne have set up their own version for the countdown. There's probably confetti.
Astarion's already kissing Brynne by the time the clock hits midnight. And if anyone's paying attention, holding her hands, foreheads together, smiling in that moment after is the most unguarded expression he's ever worn around other people.

Title: GASTLIGHTING HAH!
Fem!Reader!Eustass Kid! x Killer! (LIGHT!)
Tumblr media
First off, Reader is Female Eustass and you and Killer's relationship is only mentioned here in the one shot
And also, I like Oda's design of female Eustass but it lacks the rugged or built look the original Kid has, she may have a sleeper's build but I headcanon female eustass to be still her original height and be a built woman and honestly fanarts with this concept of him is lacking :((. References of Fem! Eustass that I like would be here! (1) (2) (3)
Okay. . . First. Let's commence a background check
Okay {Name} got isekaid as Eustass Kid but Female.
It started when you visited the country of Japan, you have learned their language, their culture and their transportation for four years straight through the help of online tutors and vlogs.
Only to be wasted, the moment you set foot on the streets of Japan.
You got unexpectedly murdered from behind and you woke up as a familiar Child Character
You noticed it the moment you knew your name as Eustass Kid, and the sudden surge of memories flooded your brain that put you through a coma for 2 days and thankfully Killer had taken care of you.
You also fairly watched some episodes of One Piece and can't follow thoroughly due to your busy schedule but you managed, and Kid became an interesting character for you and now, you're in his body- The name sounds manly but hell your keeping it.
Now you and your crew are sailing to Sabaody, you managed to recruit atleast some canon side chracters due to the story and the world seemingly forcing some of its canon lines into you through any means because of your non-Kid-like actions.
You fixed up your hooded cloak and jumped in excitement with Killer sighing besides you
"Oh cmon they call it as the element of surprise!" You snickered and patted your best man's shoulder
Killer sighed once again at your antics and just went along with your 'plan'. Its isnt really a plan, its just a fun thing to do. Make the whole world believe your a man and pretty much your height, body structure and name made it more believable, although the world thinks your mute since Killer had always been speaking on your behalf
Its time for you to change this character's fate, Making an Alliance with Hawkins and X Drake will be good enough. Fuck Apoo. Even though you know that you wouldn't survive the fight with Red haired Shanks but hey, you're curious on how Kid lost his arm
Your ship docked on one of the Islands of Sabaody, you immediately jumped out of your ship and went to explore with some members of your crew behind you
You all explored everywhere, some of your crew buying well- stealing merchandizes of Soul King. It really shocked you when they revealed they're a fan of Soul King
You walked around aimlessly, you really dont remember what Kid did in the show while in Sabaody but you atleast need to be present in the auction house. Then music made your ears perked, You heard a very familiar and hateful voice.
Seems like you have some shit to take care of, you're not really mad about Apoo but the body your in is filled with raw anger and its apparently itching for a fight and who are you to betray it?
You smirked, Already forming a bulk of scrap metal with sharp nails on your right arm.
A revenge for Kid
Apoo was having fun with his crew in the town square, bass boosted speakers loud enough to shake the ground.
His thrill soon broke down when he dodged sharp claws that tore through his equipments and man was he bewildered and upset! Those were worth millions!
He dodged away when the Mysterious Captain Kid stood up from his broken speaker,"What a party pooper you are Eustass!" He groaned out and set himself in a position, double jointed arms already ready to attack and defend.
Although he immediately knew that half of his crew will end up injured if they fought them now and unprepared, suddenly being yanked to suberhood is rude and he doesn't really appreciate his groove suddenly being cut off. Before he could speak up to ask why the man did it, Basil Hawkins and X-Drake came tumbling in, fighting with their devil fruit powers
That gave enough time for Kid to go for Apoo's throat, The musician danced away from the dark blades and now started to fight seriously. There will be no exchange of words in this battle
It maybe lasted 20 minutes or longer when Apoo escaped, leaving the whole town destroyed and in chaos. Slaves escaping and rushing off and civilians running off to safety. You groaned in frustration as your magnet turns off, the metals dropping in a pile below you, You almost killed the guy
"You alright Kid?" Killer asked besides you
"Yeah. . . lets go" you muttered and went your way towards the auction house, Your crew following behind.
Now there you are with your crew at the very back, people rather ignoring your presence and any other pirates in there. Law of course gave you the middle finger, you only scoffed and looked away. Being middle fingered in your own experience is offending asf but not to close friends. You waited and waited, One of your crew wanting to leave since it was boring but the entry of a very familiar people made you smirk. Its near
You only leaned on the wall and just watched how the scene will behold itself. Right on cue, The Mermaid, Camie was brought on stage. Many nobles bidded for the mermaid until all went silent when a Celestial Dragon bidded
You watched the scene when the fishman got shot, you watched as the ceiling fell down, you watched as Monkey D. Luffy punch the Celestial and chaos insues. You chuckled, Your hair standing on end, Witnessing this with your own eyes is something to be greatful for
You and your crew just watched with the Heart Pirates, you watched when Rayleigh came. He glanced towards your way for a little and chuckled, talking to Luffy right after. Did he noticed your a woman?
The scene unfolds quickly, Now the three of you are walking in the hallway of the entrance, You walked silent with your hood up while the two bickered on whose going first. When you were near outside, you slapped behind their heads as you walked pass by them and smirked "Just sit back and relax, and let me do this shit you dimwits"
You stroded forward when both of them paused for a bit, Luffy quickly zooming right past you laughing "Nope Me!". While Law just smirked in amusement behind you
And shall Chaos be welcomed, You three fought off the marines, buying time for your crew to exit in the backdoor.
You dodged and took all metalic weapons of the marines, slammimg them to the ground and let its sharp shards shoot out towards their owners.
The moment you landed on the ground, you didn't notice someone had sliced off your hood from behind making it fall to the ground. Some marines stopped to double check and immediately be confused that Eustass Kid looks rather feminine
You punched the frozen marine on the nose and groaned out "That was my favorite hood dammit!"
Law whistled besides you while Luffy laughed out loud again, A midst from the fight Luffy shrunked after using his third gear mid air
You swooped him up and throwed him up the air "Times up kid, fall back!" You watched as he popped back to normal and went running towards the way your crew went with the Marines chasing from behind him
You ran besides Trafalgar with his crew "Neh, Kid-ya. I propose an alliance" he asked
You hummed in confusion "Huh?!" This wasn't suppose to happen??? What??
"Nah" You laughed after recovering quickly and ran down another road that lead through under a bridge, you heard Law merely chuckle before you were faced with explosions from the front
"CAPTAIN KID!" You looked besides you and found the Victoria Punk already sailing, you grinned and immediately dodged when another bomb bullet went through you
You looked infront and groaned out again, they were handling bazookas
You rolled your eyes and raised both your arms as another wave of bullets were shot and swerved its destination back towards the marines, the men and women yelled in a panick as the bullets went back and exploded right infront of them. You laughed aloud and immediately went to ran along side your ship as a rope got thrown down its sides and you quickly jumped on it and start to climb as the ship drifed apart from land
You grinned as you pulled yourself on to the deck and immediately barked out orders "Alright, lets loose this shits ya guys hear!?"
You were met with cheers as they run around the deck as you and Killer went on the top deck to outlook the marine ships that were starting to chase you "Oh this will he fun" You chuckled as your abilities pulsed on your arm
--
You groaned in relief as you leaned on a box of rum
It was late night on an Island somewhere, you all lost the marines after submerging most of the fleet and you all managed to escape to an Island, and it was a day before entering New World
You sagged your weary bones on the box as you watched the crew drunk around and go wild on the beach, eating and drinking and having fun celebrating before going through the most angsty shit that will happen to them once they entered the Lion's den
"Unusual of you not drinking" You heard Killer say as he sat down besides you with two bottles of rum
"Already have lots behind me" You chuckled but still took the one Killer had handed you
You sighed after gulping down half the bottle and let out an unflattering burp "Oh that hits the spot" you slurred
Killer chuckled and wrapped his arms around your shoulder and you leaned into his arms "I know your thinking, wayy too uncharacteristic of you-"
You laughed and jabbed him in the side with your elbow making him let out a yelp , both of you soon simmering down with a chuckle
"Dont worry about it, the sea will turn bad if I told you" You shrugged and drank down the bottle and threw it back once it was empty, Killer; again handing you the other
"Thanks" you muttered and drank it down again, sighing as your body relaxed more and leaned against Killer's shoulder
You both sat down in silence as you both watched the crew go crazy, staying warm through both the alcohol and eachother
And soon enough, new bounty pictures of 'The Mysterious Captain Eustass Kid' were set up, instead of a man covered in a dark hood, it's now a woman with fiery red hair

I'm definitely going to have to rewatch it at some point (maybe after season 2 is fully out, so I can watch them back-to-back), because I want to see how everything plays out in hindsight, and see what details I can pick up on.
I started watching this show because I saw a gif from the most recent episode in season 2 ('Hannah', I think) and it looked kinda gay. That's how I started watching the Last of Us. And many other shows. I'm a lonely, desperate queer.
Overall, I really enjoyed it! I'm a fan of all the genres it combined, and I think they worked really well together. I feel like, even if you don't gel well with the comedy, the compelling mystery and characters make it worth a watch. I loved the format of having a different sort of genre in each episode, with my favourite styles being Chelsea and Yasper. And, I adore unreliable narrators.
The only episode I went into knowing the genre (or in Zoe's case, the medium) were Aniq and Zoe, but I correctly guessed that Brett was going to have an action-style 'movie', Yasper's was going to be a musical, Chelsea's was going to be a thriller kind of movie and that Maggie's was going to be kiddie-fied. Guessing the genre's not an achievement though, despite my sense of pride.
I didn't correctly guess the killer until I did my thing of reading a reader-insert fic just before the finale, and a line in there (something to do with 'keeping secrets') made me think 'oh shit'. It wasn't necessarily a spoiler, but it did make it click for me, and I noticed things in the finale leading up to the reveal, like Yasper being absent from when Aniq woke up. Before that spoiler, though, I guessed it was probably Walt, though I did suspect he was just a red herring. Part of me also had this crack theory that it'd be a 'Who Shot Mr. Burns' thing where Maggie killed him by accident (funny how they share the same name), or that she'd witnessed Xavier fall accidentally.
Speaking of which, I think the conclusion was satisfying and made sense in the way Danner explained it. I'm hoping it'll hold up on rewatch- I'm guessing it will. It made sense, and I think it's impressive for this kind of comedy show to commit to having one of their charismatic main characters being the killer, instead of copping out and make it be someone we don't really care about. Well, I cared about Yasper at the very least. He was one of my favourite characters, and I'm very sad that he's probably rotting in prison. But, I'm glad he had his moment of fame.
Since this is fiction, I'm allowed to say 'fair enough' to Yasper murdering Xavier. I think everyone at that party should have been more grateful to Yasper for getting rid of him. (/lh) Though I think it would have been hilarious if everyone was actually grateful, instead of them all celebrating that the killer had been caught. That said, even though I love Yasper and I condone what he did, it felt kinda nice for Danner's investigation to be celebrated, even though I'm not a fan of cops.
That said, I do have a small issue with the finale that is entirely personal to me and my preferences, and this could easily be fixed if I wrote an angsty fanfiction like I normally do. So, my problem is that I wish that the revelation of what Yasper did had more of an emotional impact on Aniq. I know that they haven't spoken in two years prior to that night, but they were best friends in high school, and I think it's kind of dismissive that they went straight from 'Aniq feels betrayed that his friend would do something like this' to 'now he's kissing Zoe in the car'. I know it's a comedy and it'd be weird for the season to end on such a depressing note, especially since in the end the murder isn't taken that seriously by Yasper (in a scene I sincerely enjoyed and felt kind of happy for him in). Speaking of which, I read some analysis on Yasper and the perception of success in terms of careers that was really interesting and I'll link here, so that kind of makes that scene a little sad because Yasper would rather be an infamous killer than a guy with a successful career. But, y'know it's a comedy so I'll try not to think about that or I'll be sad.
Now I'll get onto the characters, specifically the main ones. I like them all as characters. I'll only go into depth about the characters who get an episode named after them, Xavier and Walt.
Aniq is really charismatic, and I think he's a fun main character to have even if he's not the most interesting necessarily. I think it makes sense to have such a puzzle-oriented character as the main character in a murder mystery. Plus, he's a genuinely nice guy, so it makes it so you don't want to see him get sent to prison. I'm pretty sure he's the main character of season 2 as well, so I'm happy to see him return.
I really like Zoe, too! I was worried that she would just be 'the artsy, perfect love interest' that you see in teen movies, so I really liked to see her story of struggling with who she is and what she wants. It really resonated with me, and her episode was really interesting to watch. Personally, her episode reminded me a little of BoJack Horseman (the show, not the character). I don't really understand why her episode has such a harsh rating on IMDB, because I think the storytelling and use of animation to further characterise and flesh out Zoe was really effective.
I like Zoe and Aniq's relationship too, and I think that's really impressive because of how I struggle to get on board with canon relationships in rom-coms. A lot of the time, it feels like I'm watching a kid holding their Barbie and Ken dolls in either hand and repeating 'don't you think they should kiss?' But, with Aniq and Zoe, they had genuine chemistry (no pun intended) and they both work as individual characters outside of their relationship.
Yasper is one of my favourite characters in the show, probably second to a character I'll get onto in a minute. I think he's a great subversion of the 'best friend hypeman' trope, where he actually has motivations and goals outside of his best friend. I was worried that his character was going to just be the 'oblivious loudmouth best friend', and, like with Zoe, I was thankfully proven wrong. He was a delightfully complex character who did the world a service. I can't be bothered to analyse him in the detail I'd like to, so all I'll say is that I am going to spend some time tomorrow reading some angsty Yasper fics.
So, my favourite character in the show was Chelsea, and I'm honestly so in love with her it's insane. Her character was so complex and interesting, and on a personal level she was really easy to empathise with. I knew early on that she wasn't the killer, and that she was just a fucked up woman who deserved so much better in life. It made me so happy to see her making amends with Zoe, and to see how nice Yasper and Aniq were to her, because all she really needed was to escape the high schooler judgement and be afforded some compassion and kindness. And, I found it simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming that she was so used to the feeling of being judged and ostracised that she didn't get revenge on Xavier and wrote that apology on Aniq's hand for him drinking her cat roofies. Her arc was the most satisfying to watch for me. I'm devastated that she's only in season 1 (though I get it from a narrative standpoint). Hoping she will live on through fanfiction.
Brett was also a surprise to me, because I assumed he was just going to be a total loser who thinks he's a badass and that's it. But, I really like how he was actually a decent dad to Maggie as well. Like, sure, you shouldn't leave your kid alone in a car for a prolonged period or speed when your kid's in the car (or at all), but still. It was really sweet to see the joy on Maggie's face when her dad was living out some Fast and the Furious fantasy. And, I like how the motivation of his episode was to get the koala back. It made me giggle.
Danner was a really interesting character to watch. Again, I'm not a fan of cops, but I personally feel like her character is well-done. She's someone working against a shitty system as best she can. She'll do what's right as opposed to staying in favour with her colleagues who believe in protecting their own than pursuing true justice. I like how she's very unconventional in her approach, where she knows she'll find something relevant in seemingly unnecessary details. It makes her a really interesting investigative character. Plus, I really like Danner's personality; she's also a very charismatic character, minus the being a cop thing.
Walt wasn't my favourite character but I still liked him enough. It was kinda depressing (in a fun way, though) at times to see him be so overlooked by his peers. I thought it was funny that, in Maggie's version of events, he's a puppet who just says 'Walt'. And, I liked that he's so overlooked that his designated episode (High School) isn't named after him and we don't really get his perspective as much as we did with the other characters. It fit a lot with the outcast, background role of the character, where his own party, his own story isn't even about him. It was nice that they remembered his name in the end.
Maggie is so precious to me fr. She's such a sweet kid and I want to adopt her. Her joy is so infectious.
Now onto Xavier. As a character, Xavier was really incredible. As a person, I'm overjoyed that someone took the initiative to dispose of him. His relationship with Yasper was so interesting, and I like that we got to see his origins as a kinda dorky teenager who wants to reinvent himself and is heartbroken 'heterosexually' when his best friend wants to break up their band. So much so that he gets into a fight with the guy his best friend definitely isn't in love with. But, he fucked over my darling Chelsea and my guy Aniq. He makes shitty music. The only good thing he ever did was make Maggie's favourite movie. Overall, he is basically Jamie Tartt, if Jamie was murdered before he could become the man we all know and love today. I mean, neither of them wear shirts under their suits, and Dave Franco and Phil Dunster have some physical similarities.
I'm really looking forward to watching season 2 and to rewatching the whole show. And to reading some angsty Aniq/Yasper/Xavier fanfics. And to hopefully finding some fanart to reblog. I need to consume fan content for this show and these characters. Especially Chelsea.

POPPY IMBER IS A COLD-BLOODED KILLER. Or so she thinks.
Bodies of teenagers lay just a few feet away from her. Some missing their heads, and others were torn to shreds that Poppy couldn’t even recognize them. Her clothes were somewhere on the ground in pieces, the bottom half of her face was covered in blood, and the only thing that was around her covering her body was a black trench coat that she stole from one of her victims. She didn’t mean to kill them. It was an accident. It’s not like she knew she was going to turn into a man eating monster. She had her theories but she didn’t think she was right.
The mysterious death of her mother left her with so many questions. Of who she was, what she was. Questions that her father couldn’t answer. The one thing she did know now, was that she was no longer the shy human girl she was a few hours prior
She was something else now. Something powerful, strong, dangerous. She feels it coursing through her veins. It was something she couldn’t explain in words. Something you would have to experience yourself to know the feeling.
She was calm, a little too calm for someone who went on a tiny murder spree. She didn’t shake or quiver when she looked at the dead teens. She didn't cry,or sob, she didn’t scream out in terror for what she had done, and she wasn’t scared. All she did was look down at them with a blank face. She was far too numb to react to what she had done.
She turned and walked away from the crime scene, following the scent of salt water. She heard the sounds of loud music and the sound of laughter coming from the party. They were completely unaware of what had just taken place, and won’t know until a few hours later. As she approached the lake Poppy’s sensitive nose began to burn at the stench of alcohol. With her improved vision, she could see the party from across the lake. Drunken teenagers dancing and laughing with no care in the world. If only they knew what had happened right across from them.
She was so far away from them that they could not see her but she could see them. She blended in with the night and watched them scurry around like prey. She stood still as a mannequin. She envied their humanity even if her's were stripped away from her a few hours ago. She missed it. She missed feeling normal. But she wasn't ever really normal in the first place so what did she miss? Her innocence? Her naive nature? The sweet girl that was as good as gone now?
The lake reflected the full moon and its light shined off of Poppy’s face. As she didn't feel the same, she didn't look the same either. Her eyes were a misty gray color, and if one looked at her they would assume she was blind. Her nails were longer and sharper, her jawline was more defined, and some of her teeth were sharper, poking at the side of her gums. This person, this….thing was her. The reflection moved when she went to feel her face, it moved with her, and it blinked with her. This reflection belonged to her now. This was her now. Forever and always.
She stripped the trench coat from her body and walked into the lake and went about shoulder-deep before she began to wash off the blood.
At that moment, the only thing she wished she hadn’t done came to this stupid party. She should have stayed at home and said no to her friend.
Maybe her ‘friend’ would still be alive and she wouldn’t be what she is now. Maybe then she wouldn't have killed all those people.
Like a short ocean wave, all her emotions began to rush at her and she started to sob and wail into the night as her mind finally realized what she had done. Their screams, all the blood, their faces as she turned into a monster. She did that. She did all of it. Nobody heard her wails and sobs of despair. If they did, they were too drunk to notice. The whisper of the forest trees was the only comfort she got.
Poppy began to say sorry repeatedly. She didn't know why she was saying sorry. Maybe she was saying sorry to Mother Nature for taunting her beautiful land with such a horrible crime, maybe she was saying sorry to the little girl she once was, sorry for failing her and sorry for failing her dad and making his worst nightmare come true. Poppy was sorry for it all.
And above all.
She was saying sorry for not regretting a damn thing she had done.
Tumblr media
Hours earlier
THE NIGHT WAS YOUNG AND WILD. Teenagers roamed around the party laughing and drinking god knows what. Couples were making out near trees, and Poppy didn't even wanna know what that noise she was hearing past the bushes. Going to a party in the middle of the woods was not how she wanted to spend her Friday night. She wanted to be at home in her bed watching TV while she was stuffing herself with junk food. But alas her friend Maggie forced her to come to the party. But now that she was here, she wished she resisted Maggist's plea’s a little more.
"Maggie I don’t know about this.” She said nervously. The longer she stood, the more she regretted coming here, but she couldn’t just leave. She rode here with Maggie and she doesn’t have her own driver's license or her own car so she was stuck here for the time being. Damn her need to be a people-pleaser.
“Oh relax Poppers,” She had cringed at the nickname. “You are gonna have fun, we are gonna have fun and get totally wasted.” Maggie began to guide Poppy into the crowd pushing through people until they finally reached the cooling rack with all the drinks. Maybe they will have some sprite? Poppy thought. Her hope deflated when Maggie opened up the cooler and all she saw were cans of beer. Maggie handed her a drink and she shook her head.
“Maggie you know I don’t drink.”
“Come on, don’t be a wimp.”
Damn, some friend you are. Poppy grabbed the drink from her head and watched as her friend opened hers and down half of it in three gulps. Maggie smiled at Poppy and she gave a small one back. The music changed to some pop music from the early 2000s and Maggie began to move with the music.
“Come on girl let's dance!” Maggie began to tug her arm but this time she resisted. She shook her head at her friend. “Nah I'm not really a dancer.” That was a lie. Poppy loves dancing. She just didn’t want to be in the middle of sweaty teenagers. Luckily her friend believed her little white lie and Poppy watched as her friend disappeared into the crowd.
Poppy let out a sigh and put her unopened beer back into the cooler. She found a seat and began surveying the crowd. Not one face she recognize went to school with her. A lot of them looked older than your typical high schoolers which makes Poppy think Maggie lied to her about this party.
She cringed at the god-awful bass that was too strong for the speakers to take. She is surprised the police haven't been called but then again maybe that's why they picked to have a party in the middle of the woods. Poppy reached into her jacket pocket and grabbed the water that she brought and took a sip. She hopes that she won't be here for long but she highly doubts that.
Before Poppy knows it, its almost 1 am and now she is just ready to go home. The party was still going on and she bet her dad fell asleep waiting up for her. She told him she was studying over at Maggie’s. She is definitely gonna get grounded for this.
Come on Maggie where are you?. She looks over the crows trying to find Maggie but has no luck. She sighed getting up from her chair. But she doubled over as the familiar pain she knows all to well comes back.
No. Please not again. Not here
It feels like her stomach is trying to eat itself. Her ears were hearing so many things at once, the leaves rustling, glasses clinking together, she could hear breathing, and most importantly she could heartbeats. Multiple heartbeats. They sounded like music to her ears. The air didn’t smell like sex and sweat anymore. It smelt sweet. So so so sweet. Poppy almost began to drool at the smell. Her feet were guiding her toward the crowd. The scent getting stronger and sweeter.
Her trance was broken when the pain came back even worse. Poppy looked down at her hands and saw her black manicured nails were longer and sharper. She flinched when her tongue pricked her teeth; they were sharp now. She began to hypervenatilate, her breathing becoming erratic.
“Oh my god,” She said shakily. “What the hell is happening to me?” Her question was answered with another pain pulsing through her stomach. She backed away from the party and began to deeper into the woods. She walked until she couldn’t hear the music anymore. The pain was so great she dropped to her knees and her sharp claws dug deep into the dirt. She groaned and groaned praying to any god to make the pain stop. To make what was happening to her stop.
Poppy was too distracted by her pain to hear the footsteps of multiple people coming up from behind her.
“Well well well if it isn't the school freak.” Go away, Shawn. Poppy thought. Poppy can deal with him and his goons bullying any other day, but now really wasn’t the time. Not when she felt like her stomach was ripping itself apart.
“Go away, Shawn.” She gritted out. He chucked and forcefully yanked her up and pinned her against a tree. His little minions watching behind him in pure glee. Of course, they would be here at the party. The pain in her stomach was long gone now. She was too distracted from the sharp bark stabbing in her back.
“Can’t believe you were friends with this freak Maggie,” The girl in question appeared in her line of vision and Poppy’s eyes widened. “How did you put up with this bitch?” Maggie laughed and walked closer to the girl.
“I didn’t, I couldn’t stand her half of the time I was with her. “ Maggie laughed at the wounded look in Poppy’s eyes. “No way, did you actually think I was friends with you?” Poppy looked away as tears gathered in her eyes.
“Nobody wants to be friends with a freak like you.” She sneered at the girl. Shawn laughed big and loud. Like that was the funniest joke he ever heard in his small dicked life. His hold tightened on Poppy. Through Poppy’s blurry eyes, she pushed down the betrayal of her only friend and smirked down at Shawn.
“Honestly Shawn, looks like you're really obsessed with me,” She leans up as far as she can go and whispers in his ear. “ Are you sure your dick doesn’t go hard when you see me?”
Before Shawn has time to react Poppy knees him where the sun doesnt shine and runs deeper into the woods. She hears Shawn’s groans and mutters curse words. She ran faster hearing the sound of more footsteps rushing behind her. She zigzagged from tree to tree, not once looking behind her to see if the group of boys is gone.
She is knocked down from the side and she rolls over until her back hits the tree. Her legs and arms were covered in small scratches from the small branches surrounding it. She knew she wasn’t going to outrun them. They were football players. Shawn looked down at her angrily before dragging her by her hair.
Poppy yelped in pain and hit wherever she could in hopes he would release her. He did not flinch but instead dropped her on the ground before he got on top of her. Her head swung to the side from the force of his slap.
“You fucking bitch!” He yelled at her. Poppy felt her blood pool at her mouth, he grabbed her chin and forced it to look at her. “I thought you learned not to run away from me,” She whimpered at Shawn tightening his grip around her jaw. “I can see you didn’t, guess I got to teach you all over again.” He looked behind him and motioned one of his goons to hand him something.
Unbeknownst to the jock, his hand drifted upwards towards Poppy’s mouth, and she did not hesitate to bite down hard. He screamed out in pain and got off her cradling his hand.
The sounds of his cursing were muffled to her ears. All she could focus on was the blood that was in her mouth. She licked her lips and her eyes rolled to the back of her head and moaned in delight. The painful pulses in her stomach were back now, but they felt different than all the others. Yes, there was pain but…. The taste of the metallic blood brought something else with it. Hunger. Not the hunger Poppy would get when she skipped breakfast, but the type of hunger that makes her crave something beyond human food. Something you want to sink your teeth into and claw at the flesh and tear into the veins, and the muscles until you feel the soft tissues of the human organs.
In summary, it tasted good and Poppy wanted more.
Her face felt different ,and her nails were sharp just like they were minutes prior and her lips twitched revealing a small part of her sharp canine teeth. She looks at Shawn hungrily but he was too busy soothing his bleeding hand. Oh how doomed he is.
“You fucking bitch you bit my fucking hand!” Poppy ignored his words. Too busy staring that his blood that dripped from his hand. She didn’t know she bit him that hard. Shawn turned to look at her angrily but stopped at the sight of her face.
“What the fu-”
Poppy jumped onto Shawn, ripping into his neck. He screamed and tried to push her off him but she was strong and unmoveable. She hears the others behind her screaming in terror and frozen in their places. They are so stupid. They should be running by now, but that's okay. That just means there is more food for her. The more the merrier
Blood splattered onto her and on the ground, and it sprayed for miles. Poppy moaned in pleasure at the warm blood that ran down her throat. However, she was mildly annoyed that Shawn just wouldn’t stop fucking screaming. It was quickly getting on her last nerves.
So she snapped his neck.
She hears Maggie scream in horror as a part of Shawn’s neck bone popped out of his neck. He was dead now, which was good. The screaming had stopped, but now she had to deal with the 5 more behind her. She will come back to him later.
Poppy stood slow and calculated. Shawn’s blood dripping down her chin and onto her dress. She turns to the stupid teenagers who have yet began to run for their lives. She walks at a slow pace towards them but is stopped shrotly after she began to groan in pain.
She kneeled to the ground and felt her bones began to crack. She screamed as her fingers began to grow, her spine crimbled into a new form, her teeth began to fall out and new sharper ones grew in its place. She grew taller, almost 9 feet tall. Her groans turned into growls and soon her voice was unrecognizable. Horns grew out of her head and they looked similar to deer antlers. Only longer and sharper.
She stood on her feet staring down at the tiny humans as they shook in fear. They were scared. Good. Fear makes the food taste better. She roared into the night and it echoed beyond the dark woods. The humans flinching, by now of course they were shaking and crying sprouting pleas at her like she would actually hear them. Fools.
They should know that Poppy is not here anymore. She was gone for the night. Laid dormat in the mind of her mondter. Whatever pleas came from the humans ears was heared by no one. It is far too late for these unfortunate souls.
She was a Wendigo now.
And these poor unfortunate souls were about to die a very, very horrible death.

📚 STUFF I READ 📚
🙂 Under Alien Skies: A Sightseer's Guide to the Universe (Phil Plait, author & narrator) - The Bad Astronomer paints pictures of what the sky would look like standing on the surface of other planets, asteroids, etc.
😊 Initiation (Sex Wizards #1) (Alethea Faust) - erotic BDSM fantasy - actually a bit more plot & worldbuilding than I was expecting tbh, entertaining
😞 Miss Aldridge Regrets (Canary Club Mystery #1) (Louise Hare, author; Georgina Campbell, narrator) - This isn't a mystery the MC investigates, it's a mystery that happens TO her. She was tediously passive, seeming really rather naïve & foolish (esp given her age and life experience) and entirely in denial about pretty much everything that happens to her (since she's being actively framed for murder). However, the very short interval chapters from the killer's perspective did hook my interest and left me genuinely curious about the mystery. At about 44% I jumped to the end to see how the mystery resolved. I'm counting it as read since I did read over 50% of it.
😍 A Most Agreeable Murder (Julia Seales, author; Fiona Hampton, narrator) - comical pastiche/parody mashup of: Jane Austen (specifically), regency-set/gothic novels (in general) & Agatha Christie/country house mysteries - funny & entertaining, deftly done. Very Nightmare Abbey vibes in the absolute best way. I enjoyed all the caricature characters but 'overlooked tedious (but secretly a [redacted]) sister' Mary was my fave, absolute gothic queen
💖💖 +94K of shorter fic so shout out to these I really loved 💖💖
I'm dating the least inquisitive man in Ottawa (GlitterCity) - Rachel Reid's Game Changers: Troy Barrett/Harris Drover (but really mostly gen), 4K - cute, really nailed the character voices
Tinder Is the Night (rohkeutta) - MCU: stucky, 6K - hilarious, forever fave [reread]
Stay (fandomfluffandfuck) - MCU: stucky, 31K - silver fox/old guard Dom Steve subbing for newbie Dom Bucky - great character voices, hot af sex!
bitten hand guides best (frankoceansmoonriver) - The Witcher: Geraskier, 33K - lovely little fic with werewolf!Jaskier & witcher Geralt

Detective L
Tumblr media
Crossposted from my Dreamwidth:
Finished Detective L tonight! Very fun❤
• Luo Fei is very pretty and the show milks this by putting him in various outfits and situations - it knows exactly what itch it wants to scratch, haha. Bai Yu voices himself which is always nice. • Laid it on a little thick with the plagiarism. Come on guys you didn’t have to lift the main theme from BBC Sherlock. • Qin Xiaoman is a typical young protagonist: Fresh off the academy, enthusiastic but naïve, she struggles to adapt to the realities of the world and of police work. Luo Fei is her foil: Experienced and resourceful, he knows how to navigate his environment. He has a playful side to him, while Qin Xiaoman is more serious. Both of them are kind and hardworking people. They work well as protagonists and I enjoyed their dynamic ❤
Haphazard (spoilery) notes per case under the cut:
• Case 1: Cheongsam Lady gets murdered (or does she?) I like the case. I expected Luo Fei to solve the first case flawlessly as an introduction but he actually doesn’t get his way immediately. And it turns out to be no murder at all! Very fun. One caveat: I don’t like the mean-spirited way a lawyer’s work is portrayed, a very common problem of the genre. A lawyer telling his clients about their rights is sinister and malicious, while police trampling all over these rights is good and necessary. Urks.
• Case 2: Accountant Lady gets murdered OMG it took me forever to figure out Ben Jie Ming is called Benjamin XD. I like him though. Luo Fei and Qin Xiaoman go undercover as a couple! Delightful. I love that it fails immediately lol. The conclusions here are a bit... unsatisfying? They had no proof against this Chen guy, I don’t like the assumption that a man in a wheelchair can’t possibly ever walk, and there is no answer to the threat letters at all.
• Case 3: Evil Music This is where I started shipping the main characters ❤ Nice actions scenes, and I liked the deductions too. I did not expect the final twist at all! Although some aspects seemed… oddly familiar… *cough*BBC Sherlock*cough*
• Case 4: The tailor’s wife I could see the solution coming, but I was surprised the murderer managed to kill everyone she had a grudge against - I expected one potential victim to be saved. That first victim was really dumb. Why did she tell her about how they tried to kill her and steal her money? Keep your mouth shut and you get to live.
• Case 5: Arson Predictable, but still fun to watch it play out, and they had the balls to make an established character the murderer. Loved Qin Xiaoman and Luo Fei’s little pyjama party, and the 4th wall breaking in the extra. Super cute ❤
• Case 6: Return of the laughter killer I called this one too! I knew it would be her immediately. But overall the conclusion was lackluster – none of them has a proper motive. Killing random students because your girlfriend’s dad was a clown??? (Did I miss something?) This case is where I started shipping Luo Fei/Xiaoman/Benjamin OT3❤
• Case 7: Agatha Christie Murder Mystery They all look so prettyyy! ❤❤❤ I did not see the brother switcheroo coming! The motive was again a little wonky.
• Case 8: I don’t even know? What is this case??? What’s going on? Who are these people? Why should I care? And wtf is this ending??? The show does a terrible job of introducing the new characters and the story - I could not get invested at all. Why not instead make use of the characters that we spent 20 episodes establishing for the big finale? Even Dr. Huo could not save this mess of an ending – or rather, lack thereof. I dislike this on principle. We ended this one on a low note folks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Overall I liked this drama. I feel like it knows what it wants to be and succeeds at that beautifully – if only they had kept it up for the those last few episodes!
