like, hello? he recognises kara as the smartest person in the room, writes her as mature, capable and confident, yet still headstrong and cocky, and what is more important, he doesn’t use krypton as the trauma that will always haunt kara till the end of her days, but rather as a found memory she carries that she gets to share with other people.

i’ve said it before, but one thing kara should always be is the holder of krypton’s spirit, but with enough time passing, it should be more about celebrating krypton’s spirit vs mourning it. it’s not fair for kara to stuck in the same cycle of anger for her planet forever. of course she should mourn her planet at first, but with enough time passing she deserves to heal. she doesn’t deserve to be haunted by it for the rest of her life. the bitter memories should bleed into found ones.

what if there was a comic that was, on the surface, a very poorly written and made warrior cats comic about one-note characters that leaned heavily into tropes (wc and general ones) all drawn in ms paint, but around 50-60 pages the narrative is shifted wildly off course as instead of the main character meeting the love interest at their first gathering, they instead fuck off and befriend a background cat who was never supposed to fully exist instead. this causes a domino effect of things to happen- like characters forming different relationships than what were planned and personalities developing differently. more and more drastic measures are made by 'starclan' to course correct- until one of their messengers misinterprets their sign and messes up things permanently, causing the two to be aware that none of their world is actually real. though there were plenty of signs beforehand- it was just that one last thing that confirmed it for good.

I never understood the bit at the beginning of Fear Street hey hey everyone go watch it right now it is SO GOOD where one of the characters that the film wants us to sympathize with reacts to a local tragedy with a kind of flagrant, unhinged humor.

And then 2020 lasted for 84 years.

And I was like,

I have like ten different analyses of each of the the dsmp characters that are all very similar but differ slightly based on the varying interpretations of the world building of the SMP.

Like, are they hybrids or humans or completely nonhuman? How does that affect them? Does it change anything at all?

Are the members of the SMP the only ones in their world or are there hundreds or even thousands of unnamed citizens? How does that affect the importance of the nations? How deadly were the wars? How much grief permeates throughout the population? How bloody was Doomsday? Who has the most blood on their hands?

Were they just normal people pre-canon or did they have defining backstories? Or do they not remember their lives before the SMP at all? How does that change their world views?

Exactly what is the magic system of the DSMP? Is it just Minecraft mechanics or are there actual processes and knowledge that needs to be studied and practiced? If it’s the latter, who is better or worse at what? How does this affect their economy?

To what extent are the governments actually functional? Are there actual governing bodies or are they just groups of people? Is c!Eret an actual king who has to make complicated decisions or do they just sit and look pretty and occasionally send out royal decrees? Does anyone actually pay taxes?

Does the SMP take place in a server multiverse or is it just one giant planet and a bunch of lands that can be reached with long enough travel? How far does Dream’s adminship extend? Are Logstedshire and the Anarchist Commune actually outside Dream’s SMP? Is SMP just another word for territory since Wilbur called L’Manberg an SMP within Dream’s SMP?

How the fuck does procreation work???? Is it with the same logic as divine myths where people just spawn from random limbs or pop out of the woodwork? Is Mpreg a thing???? What about spawn eggs? How the fuck are babies? How the fuck does aging? What the fuck is anyone’s canon age??????

How does respawning work? Do people just have a lot of near death experiences and the canon deaths are the only ones actually perceived? Or do people just respawn like normal and they can only have three really traumatic deaths before they get stuck in limbo? What happens to their bodies after they die?

Gods are real, obviously, but why didn’t anyone believe in anyone other than Prime before they started fucking with people? Are these old gods with obscure pantheons or did they spawn into existence in response to a society? Exactly how godly are they? Are they even real gods or just very powerful eldritch beings calling themselves gods?

What the fuck even are comms? Are they redstone? Or are they a technology more similar to the nukes or robotics? How do they display canon vs noncanon deaths? To what extent do the comms function like Minecraft settings? Do they even have any functions besides the chat feature and coordinates?

What other technology exists? Kinoko watches anime, but is it a screen or is it a theatre? Do cars and guns and the like exist within their world but the DSMP specifically just doesn’t have the resources to build them? Or do they not exist at all?

HOW DOES THE TIMELINE FUCKING WORK???? HOW LONG WERE THE WARS? WERE THEY A COUPLE DAYS OR WERE THEY YEARS???? HOW LONG WAS EXILE??? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS TIME??? WHEN THE FUCK DOES LITERALLY ANYTHING TAKE PLACE??? HOW OLD WERE THESE MOTHERFUCKERS???????

I used to back in my early days on FFXIV Tumblr because for whatever reason people just couldn't let male midlanders be without constantly insulting them?? I'd get anons here and /tells ingame about how weird or ugly my midlander(s) looked, how they'd be cuter if they were miqo'te, "use a fantasia" etc etc.

Even when I'd make just simple positivity posts about them there was always at least ONE response being negative/insulting... and this happened regularly between 2014-2019!

It felt so self conscious about my main that I almost shelved him entirely, and it took 2 years for me to try him again... and then another year and a half for the fear of being perceived negatively to vanish almost entirely. Only this year has it gone away completely! So anyway I'm glad that's a thing of the past (at least I hope it is)

The first event I went to with GENDER QUEER was in NYC in 2019 at the Javits Center.

So many of the people who came to my signing were librarians, and so many of them said the same thing: "I know exactly who I want to give this to!" Maia: "Thank you for helping readers find my book!" While working on the book, I was genuinely unsure if anyone outside of my family and close friends would read it. But the early support of librarians and two American Library Association awards helped sell two print runs in first year.

Since then, GENDER QUEER been published in 8 languages, with more on the way: Spanish, Czech, Polish, French, Italian, Norwegian, Portugese and Dutch.

It has also been the most banned book in the United States for the past two years. The American Library Association has tracked an astronomical increase in book challenges over the past few years. Most of these challenges are to books with diverse characters and LGBTQ themes. These challenges are coming unevenly across the US, in a pattern that mirrors the legislative attacks on LGBTQ people. The Brooklyn Public Library offered free eCards to anyone in the US aged 13-21, in an effort to make banned books more available to young readers. A teacher in Norman, Oklahoma gave her students the QR code for the free eCard and lost her job. Summer Boismeir is now working for the Brooklyn Public Library. Hoopla and Libby/Overdrive, apps used to access digital library books, are now banned in Mississippi to anyone under 18. Some libraries won’t allow anyone under 18 to get any kind of library card without parental permission. When librarians in Jamestown, Michigan refused to remove GENDER QUEER and several other books, the citizens of the town voted down the library’s funding in the fall 2022 election. Without funding, the library is due to close in mid-2024. My first event since covid hit was the American Library Association conference in June 2022 in Washington, DC. Once again, the librarians in my signing line all had similar stories for me: “Your book was challenged in our district" "It was returned to the shelf!" "It was removed from the shelf..." "It was moved to the adult section."

Over and over I said: "Thank you. Thank you for working so hard to keep my book in your library. I’m sorry you had to defend it, but thank you for trying, even if it didn't work." We are at a crossroads of freedom of speech and censorship. The future of libraries, both publicly funded and in schools, are at stake. This is massively impacting the daily lives of librarians, teachers, students, booksellers, and authors around the country. In May 2023, I read an article from the Washington Post analyzing nearly 1000 of the book challenges from the 2021-2022 school year. I was literally on route to a festival to talk about book bans when I read a startling statistic. 60% of the 1000 book challenges were submitted by just 11 people. One man alone was responsible for 92 challenges. These 11 people seem to have made submitting copy-cat book challenges their full-time hobby and their opinions are having an outsized ripple effect across the nation. WE NEED TO MAKE THE VOICES SUPPORTING DIVERSE BOOKS AND OPPOSING BOOK BANS EVEN LOUDER. If you are able too, show up for your library and school board meetings when book challenges are debated. Send supportive comments and emails about the Pride book display and Drag Queen story hours. If you see a display you like– for Banned Book Week, AAPI Month, Black History Month, Disability Awareness Month, Jewish holidays, Trans Day of Remembrance– compliment a librarian! Make sure they feel the love stronger than the hate <3

“I have always had an ethical practice of making sure that I include Palestine in my teaching,” Finkelstein told me. “It was never outside the bounds of what I do.”

For Finkelstein, who is Jewish, this was not always easy. More than 30 percent of Muhlenberg’s 2,200 students are Jewish, many of them vocal supporters of Israel.

Neither her longtime public support of Palestinians, however, nor the courses on Palestine she taught in her early years at the school prevented Finkelstein from earning tenure in 2021. Following the arduous tenure process, professors are supposed to enjoy lifetime job security and robust safeguards of academic freedom. The bar for dismissal from a tenured academic position is by design meant to be extremely high, requiring justifiable cause.

In late May, however, Muhlenberg told Finkelstein that she was fired. The reason? She had shared, on her personal Instagram account, in a temporary story slide, a post written not by herself but by Palestinian poet Remi Kanazi calling for the shunning of Zionist ideology and its supporters.

“Do not cower to Zionists,” Kanazi wrote on January 16. “Shame them. Do not welcome them in your spaces. Why should these genocide loving fascists be treated any different than any other flat out racist.” At the time, Israel had already killed over 22,000 Palestinians in Gaza, the majority of whom were women and children.

For Finkelstein’s repost of Kanazi’s words, the college determined that their employee of nine years had violated its equal opportunity and nondiscrimination policies.
