TIL that there are people who reach the age of 52 (and I assume older), who take no particularly special care of their teeth, without ever having had a root canal.

Since the person in question is my darling husband, I am experiencing such a stomach-churning cocktail of loving gratitude and personal envious rage.

Steve hates the dentist.

Tommy knows this because his dad is a dentist. His grandpa was a dentist and his brother is a dentist, and Tommy is currently at school studying to become a dentist.

There are only two constants in this world: Hagan boys grow into dentists and Steve Harrington is utterly and completely terrified of the dentist.

He knows this because he has been witness to the complete meltdown that has happened before appointments. He has watched Mrs Harrington drag her son into the chair for everything from cleanings to braces.

And he also knows that the only way to calm Steve down is to hold his hand. Tommy knows this because that was his job.

Steve never had an appointment that Tommy wasn’t present for even after he got too old to cry, even after they had their falling out.

Tommy was there.

With all the change - with graduation and college, with the earthquake and Carol moving out of town with her sister - he welcomes the stability. It’s good to know that some things don’t change.

He’s working the summer at his dad’s practice, familiarizing himself with insurance forms when Steve comes in. Tommy’s been waiting for this since he saw his name on the schedule this morning.

He tells himself that it has nothing to do with Steve or with holding his hand and all to do with bragging rights. Tommy’s not the one working at the video rental, right? Tommy’s not the one that was left behind.

Tommy doesn’t even get to say anything because his dad’s coming to the window asking, “No Mr. Munson this time?”

What?

“He’s coming,” Steve answers like that’s normal. Like it’s a part of the script. “He’s looking for a parking spot. Your lot is still the worst, Mr H.”

Steve and his dad chitchat but Tommy barely hears it, watching through the glass in the front door as Eddie ‘The Freak’ Munson walks in.

He watches Eddie follow Steve back. He watches him take his spot and wince through the bone-crushing grip Steve keeps on his hand. He watches as his dad calls, “Tom, come in here and tell me what you see.”

He sees himself, being left behind.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Sweet Tooth Good Dentist (Fri iQIYI) ep 1 of 12 - Bite me. Of course I fucking adore this. It's exactly the style of BL I like best in the world. I love everything about it including that the dentist is unhinged. Will it push "worst trope" buttons or stay safe? Either way its gonna be fun. Mark is doing a killer job (and looks STUNNING). Plus Jimmy is gonna show up? I'm all in.

Perfect 10 Liners (Sun YT) ep 21 of 24 - I love FaifaWine so much. How am I gonna judge this show when I feel so differently about each pair? 

Top Form (Thurs WeTV) ep 1 of 10 - Adaptation of a yaoi starring Boom (Chains of Heart) and Smart (Don't Say No). And... it’s fine. I like the leads quite a bit. There is a part of me though, that wishes this was getting a JBL treatment rather than Thai. I like that it’s gonna be longer this way, but the subject matter just feels more Japanese. The show is engaging enough despite this, or perhaps because of it. It’s interesting to watch Thailand tackle Japanese IP since there is built in stylistic tension. Right now it it is ill-fitting, like a shrunken suit. But it might turn out to be Velcroed on, and suddenly split open or be torn off, so I'm hypnotized. All in all, this is not what I was hoping for, but I'll keep watching if I can (I no longer have VIP status on WeTV). 

Flirt Milk (Sat YT) ep 9 or 10 - I think the reason I really dislike the main couple is how truly childlike the uke character is. It’s not kinky, it’s just creepy. I like the second pairing of "arrogant asshole and ultra tsundere uke".

And.... suddenly everybody is getting it on. Of course I like the whole show better now but it’s taken too much to get here and we arrived rather precipitously.

My Golden Blood (Weds iQIYI) Ep 2 of 12 - I’m gonna say it. In addition to not having much chemistry, I don’t think the leads are doing a good job in their roles. They either need to be more campy or less. Joss is pretty darn wooden, but that’s nothing new. So it's Gawin who is disappointing me. He seems to be directed to become something very against his nature, so much so it's an awkward screen presence. It’s all rather unpleasant to watch. It can’t be just me feeling this. Right?

That be a fun use of verse in the future.

Lost in the Woods (Weds Gaga) ep 1 of 7 - Started with singing which I was not happy about. I also really dislike the main character. I’m not wild about the actor either. I’m not sure if I can watch this show.

Ossan‘s Love Thailand (Mon YouTube) ep 11 of 12 - Already one of the worst shows in BLandia and they just had to put in the amnesia trope! (Insert all & every expletive here. Only don't, because I can't even get worked up about it.) Worst trope ever. What am I supposed to do with myself? This is untenable. Yes yes I could drop it. But with only one more ep, and a serious sunk cost fallacy in play, I am seeing this bullpucky through to the better end.

But I am very bitter about it.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Secret Relationships (Korea iQIYI) ep 4 of 8 - It has taken me half the damn show to realize it, but this is Korea doing messy gays! I didn’t recognize, because we so rarely get this trope from KBL. How exciting. I don’t normally like toxic and messy, but I guess I like it now because this show is sending me. Yes yes it's unhinged but for soem reason I'm okay with it.

7 years (SEVEN YEARS) of these insane hyungs sniffing round this poor little gay baby like he's the chosen one in some harem m/m/m/m. It is wild! But I also do finally see why they all like Da-on so much. Good kiss but also... no kissing drunk baby!

Exclusive Love (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 7 of 12 - The sides are the only thing that matter in this show. I have taken a stance. Also I LOVE Ian. I had him for 5 seconds and will move mountains for him. 

Fight for Love (Vietnam YT) ep 7 end - WAY too much singing. Sigh. But otherwise a fine end.

Summary

A cute but soapy piece from Vietnam about a rich kid with a crush on a busker (who already has relationship problems). Pretty standard chaotic Vietnamese romcom with unhinged characters and a mildly incomprehensible plot about a boy who wants to be a singer and another boy who is in love with him + various exes. It’s fine if you have nothing else to do. (Which seems to be about how the music boy felt about the dude he ended up with.) 7/10

Checkered Shirt (Korea YT) ep 7 of 8 - again I either missed it or it didn’t drop. I'm struggling with YT these days.

It's airing but......

Sashes and Hearts (Pinoy YT) 13 eps - Philippines is doing Drop Dead Gorgeous only all gay boys queening their asses off. Doesn't interest me, not sure if it's BL.

Last Meal Universe (Thai ????) 8 eps - An alien who has come to destroy earth instead falls in love with Thai food and then the Thai boy who cooks it - realistic, actually. I got a link to watch but it still wouldn't work for me, so I guess I'm waiting to see what happens.

BamBam of GOT7 just being very Thai about the prettiest contestant ever to be on a survivor show. And that's all Imma say about this rabbit hole. I don't normally cross the streams like this, but this is so BL adjacent and has gotta be someone's fanfic come to life.

Hidden Agenda - a frequent rewatch for me, I find JoongDunk a very comforting pair

Bad Buddy - my first rewatch and I gotta say, I think this one was BETTER for me on a rewatch! Such a great show. I would go so far as to say this might be the best Thai BL as an example of OG Thai Uni BL. It just perfect a classic. You just have to like the classics.

Adaption of the comic by Lily, about a shy unpopular boy with a secret crush on best friend who somehow also ends up his school's relationship counselor. Supposed to have completed filming in 2022, the fact this has been in dev hell since then somewhat mitigates this being my most anticipated BL of it's original year.

3/28 Fight for You (Taiwan Fri Gaga) 12 eps - We haven't had cop/criminal in a long time, and from Taiwan no less, I'm looking forward to this!

Ongoing Series - Thai

Perfect 10 Liners (Sun YT) ep 22 of 24 - Faifa is a natural flirt. He just flirts with everybody. I think it’s an essential part of his personality. I hope Wine is okay with that. I wish we got a little bit more about Wine’s past and history and why he is the way he is.

Ohm is our super hot P’Tor? Glorious! GREAT spot casting. Also a nice sweet character - direct and honest. I liked everything about this cameo.

All in all a nice ep. Lovely execution of the rooftop assignation trope. (It's an OLD one, was in Takumi-kun)

Top Form (Thurs WeTV) ep 2 of 10 - ep 2 and we are already on dub con and a stolen kisses? Charming. Frankly, I found this second installment a little dull. But I’m still enjoying the show.

My Golden Blood (Weds iQIYI) Ep 3 of 12 - is that the same house as Win’s family home in Between Us?

Flirt Milk (Sat YT) ep 10 end - I just want the photography club pres to get a boy. Could he have his own BL please? 

Summary

An insipid story of a boy who likes another boy at a university photography club. One of them is dim and the other is a jerk and that's it. Side couples are BL and GL, with the back-up gays the only good thing about this whole show and there isn't much of them. 4/10

Ossan‘s Love Thailand (Mon YouTube) ep 12 END - finally it's over. I will say that the actress they got to play Mo’s sister does look like she really could be Mix’s sister.

Summary 

Was this punishment for how fantastic Cherry Magic Thailand was? WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?!! I never liked this IP. It's a terrible story based entirely on a love triangle, the viability of the whole show hinges on the boss character being likable, because the lead is an unsympathetic looser (and user of people), and the roommate/love interest has no personality. With better optics, better kisses, and better chemistry than the original this Thai version STILL managed to be worse with more workplace harassment. A true feat of, well, something that ended up the visual equivalent of smelling like feet. Save yourself from the pong. 4/10

Finally… where tf were my ladies? The female characters were the best thing about the original.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Heesu in Class 2 (Korea Fri Viki) eps 1-2 of 10 - Adaption of the comic by Lily, about a shy unpopular boy with a secret crush on best friend who somehow also ends up his school's relationship counselor. This was my most anticipated BL of it's original year (2022) and I am so glad it's living up to expectations (I worried about how long it was in dev hell).

It is both painfully cute and painfully awkward and I love it. Giving Light on Me vibes. Sex Ed but a KBL is basically made for me.  I love all the characters. I love the friendship group. I love the poor lonely super studious actual love interest. Everything. Thank you Korea.

Secret Relationships (Korea iQIYI) ep 5 of 8 - episode five, and I’m starting to just feel so sorry for poor Da-on. Aw linguistic negotiation my love! I still enjoy it but things are getting dark for our hero.

Exclusive Love (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 8 of 12 - my love affair with our new blond boy continues. He is best boy.

Checkered Shirt (Korea YT) ep 7 of 8 - I’m enjoying this. In that cautious way I have with this particular production house, since they don’t always stick the landing.

Fight for You (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 1-2 of 12 - I liked premise of the show, but I’m not loving the execution. It’s the same company that does the robot stuff. And it’s got that same awkward tone and lackluster aura.  I absolutely hate the nosy grandmother character, and she may be a dealbreaker for me continuing to watch the show if she shows up regularly. This is the character (and personality type) I find the most intolerable in the world.

It's airing but......

Sashes and Hearts (Pinoy YT) 13 eps - Philippines is doing Drop Dead Gorgeous only all gay boys queening their asses off. Doesn't interest me, not sure if it's BL.

I never caught Marahuyo Project when it was airing but I recently binged it and it is charming. Not BL really (no trope et al), more a kind of 90's style Big Eden or Shelter early queer cinema thing. Made me very nostalgic for those bad old days. Definitely worth a watch if you like that kind of QL, it's 8 eps on ANIMA Studios YT channel.

When he gets tangled up with a mafia boss's son's girlfriend and ends up in a scuffle, young Yothin needs to find a safe place. Instead of sending him overseas, his father decides to send him to the countryside. There, he stays in Bang Pho under the care of subdistrict headman, a close friend of his father. He's also under the watchful eye of the village headman who happens to be the subdistrict headman's grandson and is overseeing his probation. As Yothin spends more time with Jomkhwan, his perception of the village headman begins gradually to change.

This Week in The TCW

Mar 16th - Mar 22nd

This week has been generally quiet on the airing shows front...however I've also made several historical discoveries. More on that at the bottom, but the airing shows first.

Mar 17th - Ossan's Love Thailand

Following on from last week's resurgence of older shared clothing, ep 11 of Ossan's Love Thailand gave me this white and yellow shirt, first spotted very briefly in Bad Buddy in Dec 2021. It was then also worn in My School President on Feb 17 2023...so, an appearance every two years...right, I'll expect to see it again in 2027.

Mar 21st - Sweet Tooth, Good Dentist

We all knew Sweet Tooth Good Dentist was going to have shared clothing, so expect to see this show featured here for the next twelve weeks. I'm excited to see how many we end up with but this week gave us just three items - and all three I knew from the trailer already. First is this cardigan, which was worn in Peaceful Property seven months ago (in terrible lighting...and I'm also curious as to what was on Home's t-shirt for the show to have to blur it out).

Next is this green jacket, first seen in UMG almost exactly two years ago and then right at the end of Only Friends seven months after that.

And lastly, I'm overjoyed at this one because a) I love it and b) I spent a while looking at this cardigan in the trailer feeling like I had seen it before, but it was only when I saw the upside down hearts that it hit me - Phu had worn a red version in A Boy Next World a month ago. (It comes in a third colour too!).

Historical Discoveries

And so on to all the historical discoveries, which were made mostly because I was looking for the stripy t-shirt Tong was wearing at the end of My Golden Blood this week - I'm certain I've seen it before but I can't think where - but also because I was getting screenshots for all the clothes that will appear in STGD.

First is a t-shirt I wrote about last week. Ever since Home wore it in Peaceful Property I've been so sure I had seen it before, and it was only because I went to get a better screenshot of the jacket he's wearing that I realised it's the same six-stripe pattern as the t-shirts I posted about last week. In yet another colour variation, but nevertheless the same pattern. (@respectthepetty - it's yellow! Does that make it less ugly for you?)

Staying with stripes, and another shirt I was positive I had seen before whenever I looked at the screenshots separately, I only realised this week that these two are the same. From UMG and The Trainee.

More stripes (of course, this is BL-land after all), and I noticed the shirt Sol wears in My Stand In is the same as Mew's in Only Friends (the colour looks different because of lighting/filters used during filming/post-production). I've also had these screenshots since both shows came out 🤦🏽‍♀️

Much like Home's t-shirt above, when Ride wore this Paradise Utopia World t-shirt in Peaceful Property I knew I had seen it before. But I realised this week that the reason I hadn't noticed it was from Last Twilight before was because the screenshot I had of it was of the back design. But now the mystery is solved.

In June last year I came across another shirt that I swore I recognised, so I saved a screenshot of it in the hope that one day I would find it. And when I was looking through the screenshots of Enchante for the MGB shirt, I finally did! First worn in I'm Tee Me Too in Oct 2020, and then in Enchante in Mar 2022.

And lastly! Again due to looking for the MGB shirt, I was scanning through Perfect 10 Liners and discovered this shirt from Fourever You. Worn three weeks apart in Dec 2024 and Jan 2025.
