The Dragon's Keep (part 1)
*Finished*
Fire Lord Zuko x (Fem!) Reader
Part 2
Summary: You are a firebender named Ayushi, who has been accepted to guard over the royal family as a kyoshi warrior. You end up guarding Zuko through his travels to visit the sun warriors. The mission, protecting the newest dragons, begins.
You stood in the hallway of the palace. Your armor clung to your body. The moon took over the night sky. The windows were open, letting in the cool breeze from the summer night. Pitter patters of feet down the hall jerked your attention back to reality.
"Princess kiyi." You called out running after the footsteps. You caught up to the girl. "Princess, you should be asleep. What's wrong?" You kneeled down next to her.
"I'm scared. I can't sleep." She mumbles, then hugs into your body, pulling you in to comfort her. You immediately wrap your arms around her and hold her.
"What are you scared of?" You asked gently to the girl. You picked her up and walked back to her room.
"I had a bad dream about a dark spirit." She whines into your shoulder. Her tears were starting to roll.
"It was just a dream, Princess Kiyi. You don't have to be scared. How about I sit with you and tell you a story?" You smiled brightly as the girl wiped away her tears nodding her head.
You laid her down on her bed and tucked her back in. You sat and told the story of the little dragon named Kioko. He was a very adventurous little dragon who learned he had to rely on others for aid. He couldn't do everything by himself. It was a firenation tale you heard many times from your parents.
She had fallen asleep, and you pet her hair before slipping back out into the hallway.
The next morning, Ursa was tending to the very energetic girl. She had retold the dragon story to her mother. "Where did you hear this story from?" Her mother giggled at the girl as she continued to almost the end, but kiyi didn't know how it ended because she had fallen asleep.
"Ayushi told me! I was going to get ZuZu up to scare away the spirits, but Ayushi told me a good story, and the spirits went away." The girl smiled proudly.
Zuko ate the breakfast in front of him, not paying too much attention until his nickname was said. "You were scared last night?"
"Yes, but Ayushi made it better. Mommy, I want Ayushi to tell me the rest of the story tonight. Can she please?" She spoke up to her mother.
"You can ask her before dinner tonight." Her mother smiled pleased that one of the kyoshi warriors was being so kind to her daughter and not just being a fire nation guard that was heartless like the old days.
You woke up getting ready for the night shift. You had been guarding at night. It was a long shift, but it was important to look after the royal family. You had stopped your fair share of criminals from getting to them.
Your job was about to become more interesting. "Ayushi, dear, will you come here, please? Kiyi has a question to ask you." Ursa's voice sounded through the hall out from the throne room.
You entered the room and bowed to the firelord and to the royal family.
Kiyi ran up to you. You kneeled down, sitting on your knees to face her. Your face brightened as she laughed energetically.
"Can you tell me another bedtime story tonight?" She said as she got to you.
You nodded. "Of course, Princess Kiyi. I would love to."
The girl jumped in glee. She wrapped her arms around you with a smile. You hugged her back, and then she ran back to her mother happily.
"Ayushi, I asked Suki if it was okay for you to take a daytime shift so you could tell Kiyi a bedtime story every night before your shift ends so you could sleep during the night." Ursa politely spoke.
"Yes, of course. What times work for you, work for me." Your voice is calm and respectful.
"You can have the next two nights off to readjust to daytime." She offered happily.
"Yes, Lady Ursa, thank you." You bowed, and you were dismissed.
The bedtime came quickly. You changed out of your uniform into a casual yet presentable outfit for the royal palace. You walked to Princess Kiyi's room, but it was empty. You looked around the nearby halls. The young girl poked her head out of the fire lords chambers. "Ayushi, come in here. I want Zuzu to have a bedtime story, too." You hesitantly followed her into the room. It was fit for a ruler. The room was huge. The walls were a darker color, very comforting and cozy. The fire lit torches flickered, a fireplace warming the room to a comfortable temperature to your skin. Fire Lord Zuko laid in the bed he was in silk sleep wear. His hair was down and messy. It was a stark difference from the times you've seen him. He seemed to be much more relaxed.
"Zuzu, she is here. Are you excited about the story?" Lord Zuko chuckled. Yes, much more relaxed than you've ever seen him.
"Yes, I'm excited." He said as kiyi got into the bed and tossed the covers over herself.
You bowed when your eyes met Zuko's. "Lord Zuko, I'm happy to tell you a bedtime story with Princess Kiyi." You giggled softly at the situation at hand. You leveled your body back up. His lips were turned into a grin. "Thank you, Ayushi." His eyes were a gorgeous golden brown. Your cheeks brighten ever so slightly seeing the Fire Lord in such a casual place. You were one of the new kyoshi warriors. You had never been in contact with Zuko before he became the Fire Lord.
"You can come in and sit. What story are you telling us tonight?" He seemed so welcoming.
"I was going to tell the story of the princess and dragon beast." You sat at the edge of the bed.
"Is it about a princess like me?" Kiyi gasped.
"Yes, it is her name is Bealin. She falls in love with a prince."
She laid down and held onto a stuffed flying bison Avatar Aang had given her from the air temple that was being rebuilt.
You started telling the story to the young girl. You were at the part where the princess was having fun with the dragon beast playing in the snow when Zuko leaned over, checking his sister. She was fast asleep. "She's out." He said quietly.
"I can take her to her room." You started to get up. Zuko shook his head, "That's alright. I can take her." He paused. "This reminds me of when I was little. My mom told that story a lot to us when we were little."
"My mother told me it a lot too, but my favorite was sleeping beauty. I always thought I would be rescued by a prince with a dragon from the dark spirit." You giggled at your own naivete.
"I've seen dragons they are as incredible in person as they sounded in the story." He trailed remembering the time with the sun warriors.
"But they went extinct..." Your face fell into shock.
"No, I am bound in a secret of their location, but I assure you they are very much alive." He stood up, and you stood as he walked past you.
"That stays between us." He trails quietly.
"Yes, Lord Zuko. Can you tell me more about the dragons?" You ask softly, making sure no walls could hear your conversation. You felt such a connection to dragons since you were a child. You just brushed it off to just being a firebender, but your connection seemed higher than the rest of your classmates.
"Wait here." He spoke softly, picking up his sister and then disappearing out into the hall.
You sat back down on his bed. Your hand ran across the silk. It was so luxurious and soft against your skin. His bed was so comfortable. It was better than yours back in the kyoshi housing.
Zuko returned to his room, and he pulled off the top robe. His silk bottoms were loose fitting. Your eyes stole glances at his fit figure. He didn't seem to notice. He slipped back into the bed and sat down across from you.
"The dragons are huge. They towered over me. It was so humbling facing them. There is a sacred firebending form. That started from the first firebenders that learned from the dragons. The ones I saw were red and blue. They breathed the most amazing flames that were every color you could think of." He explained the dragons to you, cautious of the secrets he had to keep specifically the where.
"I am so jealous. My dream is to see dragons. That is all I could think about as a child." You sat comfortably talking with the Fire Lord. It was the first real casual conversation.
"Maybe one day I can take you to see them. You've been very kind to my sister, and you've dedicated your life to serving the kingdom. You've put your life on the line. I will need a personal body guard when I return to them. Consider it a gift." Zuko leaned back against the headboard. His body is on even more display. Your mind didn't notice as your dreams were coming to life. His body had no place in your mind at the moment. Your eyes widened at the thought of meeting real dragons.
"Lord Zuko, you would do that for me?" You leaned forward in complete awe that he would take you to see them. He nodded, chuckling at your reaction.
"Can you teach me the form? I would be honored to learn it." Your eyes were still full of wonder.
"Yes, I can show you tomorrow. Kiyi is going to want to hear the rest of the story. I can teach you tomorrow after she falls asleep." Zuko offered to you.
"Thank you so much, Lord Zuko." You bowed respectfully. "I don't think I could ever repay you..." You trailed.
"You don't have to. It's a gift, and showing you the form is a right to all traditional fire benders." He stretched and wrapped his hands behind his head.
Your eyes then took in the scenery. The pillows, the bed frame, Zuko in less than appropriate attire for a woman to be in his bed even if you were just sitting on top of the sheets a distance away from him.
"Thank you, Lord Zuko." You bow respectfully. You stood up and made your way to the door.
"Good night, Ayushi." Zuko called out to you as you opened the door.
"Good night, Lord Zuko." You exited into the hall to go back to your housing unit with the other warriors joining the others that completed their day guarding.

Taken - Zutara - Part 41
First / Previous / Next / Masterpost
Zuko knows he won't be helpful with the support beams, and is quick to sprint down the hall. He knocks out another engineer, getting another set of plans, and starts making his way to the control tower.
If he can find the bridge, he could find plans. Maybe communications records. Current orders.
While he would prefer to do this more covertly, with his Blue Spirit mask, he made due with an engeneers mask. It would hide his scar, make it just a bit harder for anyone that did know him to figure out who he was.
He found the captains quarters first. An extravagant room, compared to normal active duty quarters, with a full sized bed and a bowl of cherries. Dread pooled in his stomach, quietly closing the door behind him, before moving to explore the desk.
There weren't many papers to be found there. Mostly just various copies of the schematics. There was, however, a log book with letters stuck in the back. Each one had a broken seal of the Fire Palace. While the letters weren't necessarily from his father, they had come directly from the palace to this commander.
Without time to look into them, Zuko stuffed the logbook and letters into his shirt, and continued his way to the command tower.
The shockingly few crew inside were easy to knock out and pile into one corner. He started fiddling with controls, trying to figure out if there was anything he could break to end the whole thing.
It was a complete coincidence that he happened to look out the window at that exact moment. He saw the flash of blue outside, a fiery and dangerous thing, different than the blue he now associated with his Water Tribe allies. The dread building in his stomach, he rushed to the telescope.
And there, his fears were proven. It was Azula, fighting Aang on the drill.
Cursing, Zuko started smashing any button he could reach on the control console. He tried anything, everything, until he felt the drill lurch and come to a stop. He could still hear the drill spinning, but they weren't digging into the wall anymore.
He was Aang cutting a rock into a spike, and Zuko quickly ducked and held onto the nearest stable surface. There was a bang, a clattering pop, and the drill rumbled fully to a stop.
Peeking up to peer out the glass, he saw the drill covered in sludge, and only Aang left standing. His sister was no where in sight. Breaking the window, he jumped out, meeting up with Aang, who helped him get back to the top of the wall.
Katara, Sokka, and Toph met them there. Katara was noticably relieved when she saw Zuko, who had started to skim the logbook.
"It was Azula," she said, reaching to grab his elbow. "Are you okay? She didn't see you, did she?"
Zuko shook his head, though his throat felt tight. He turned the book towards her, so she could read the line he was pointing to.
Prince Zuko declared dead in Northern Siege. Confirmed by Admiral Zhao and General Iroh.

Uncharted Waters: Rumor Has It
Despite being tired from their journey, they went back down the main street after dinner, hoping to find some information about the bending tournament. They stopped at a stall selling sweets and bought hotteok and pretended to window shop and sightsee as they maneuvered themselves near large groups. A few times, they did manage to catch snatches of people talking about the tournament. If it was supposed to be a secret, it was a poorly kept one. At least until they tried to get more information.
“Excuse me,” Katara approached a group with a friendly smile.
“Yeah?” One of them, a woman in her late twenties or early thirties, eyed Katara suspiciously.
“We,” Katara gestured vaguely towards Zuko, “we heard you talking about the earthbending tournament. We would love to go see it while we’re in town, but we don’t know how to get tickets.” The woman snorted derisively at her. She looked at her friends, and then the entire group burst into laughter at Katara.
“Girlie, if you have to ask, you’ll never find out,” another of the group, a thin man with thinner hair, chortled.
“Beat it,” the first woman said, jerking her head up the road. “Go home before your mama starts worrying where you are.”
“We just wanted some information!” Katara glowered at the group. “If you don’t know you could’ve just said.”
“Don’t worry about what we know.” The woman stood up to her full height, with a good few inches on Katara. Her shirt sleeves had been cut off, revealing two muscular arms covered in tattoos. Her dark eyes narrowed dangerously, but Katara met her glare with a stubborn set to her chin. The woman’s friends were looking beween her and Katara with sharp interest.
“Little kids like you should be home this late,” the woman said. “Why don’t you get gone before I give you the home training your parents forgot to beat into you.” Katara drew back indignantly and was about to snap back, but Zuko’s hand fell on her shoulder. He glowered at the group, but he spoke to Katara.
“Forget it,” he muttered. “We don’t need them.”
“But-“ Katara started to protest. Zuko took her hand and led her away from the still laughing group.
“Come on,” Zuko said. “We don’t need them.”
“We have to find out where the tournament is being held!” Katara insisted. She dug her heels in and forced Zuko to stop. “What’s the matter with you?”
“Didn’t you see those people were getting ready to jump you?”
“I could take them!” Katara huffed and crossed her arms.
“There were eight of them!” Zuko rolled his eyes and shook his head.
“So, you wouldn’t have helped me?” Katara planted her hands on her hips and glared up at Zuko.
“Of course I would.” He threw his hands out to his sides. “But then we’d risk drawing the wrong attention. How would we find the tournament if we end up in jail? How would we get any information about your brother and the Avatar? How would we get to Chameleon Bay?” Katara turned her sullen gaze to the ground.
“She didn’t have to be so rude,” she muttered. Zuko rolled his eyes again. Suddenly, he was aware of how big of an apology he owed his uncle.

Occupation
Part 18 of Dragon of the Yuyan
Read on AO3 | Series Masterpost
Zuko is not at all prepared to find Omashu draped in red and half plated in iron.
He is also not prepared to come face to face with one of his sister’s childhood friends.
It's only Zuko's experience blocking arrows with his dao that keeps him from being shot full of senbon before Aang brings the scaffolding down between them. Then they're found by the Omashu Resistance, and really, Zuko would love to hear just why this King Bumi, whom Aang had talked up as an amazing earthbender, would just… not defend his city from invasion? Like at all? Zuko can't wrap his head around it.
When the Resistance decides to retreat, Sokka comes up with the most bizarre cover Zuko has ever seen. The population of a city is transformed into a plague-ridden, shuffling horde, and he has the rogue thought that when the war is over, the Water Tribe warrior should try his hand at playwriting.
Zuko doesn’t have time to dwell on it, though—he’s trying desperately to keep up with an airbending Avatar bound and determined to find his friend. Tree-running (rather, roof-running) in Omashu is awesome, and he has got to bring Kai and Jiyoti here sometime, but by Agni is he going to be so fucking sore tomorrow. He finally catches up to Aang when he stops to free an enormous goat gorilla that the dumb kid addresses as Flopsie.
At this point, Zuko doesn't even bother trying.
He grabs Aang's collar before he can jump onto the creature's back, and forces him to turn around.
What in Agni's name do you think you're doing? He signs furiously. Do you have any idea where B-U-M-I actually is?
The face Aang pulls in response is not helpful, you little brat, and Zuko pinches the bridge of his nose.
Think, airhead! He demands, ending the command with a hard flick to the center of the blue arrow. You've been here before. Contrary to what it looks like, the Fire Nation didn't completely rearrange the city. Where's the city jail? Where's the place where the worst of the worst people are kept? That's where you'll find B-U-M-I.
Aang takes a deep breath and lets it out, ruffling their clothes as he accidentally airbends. "Okay, I know where to go."
They clamber onto Flopsie’s shoulders, and Aang guides the goat gorilla through the deserted city streets to the peak of the mountain. Through the bamboo and plywood scaffolding, Zuko can see the in-progress iron statue of Ozai that stands at the top, and can’t resist flipping the thing off with both hands. Thankfully Aang doesn’t notice.
Around the back at the foot of the statue stands a portable cell, similar to the one at Huzhen, and Zuko has to swallow down bile at the reminder. This one has a retractible roof, and Zuko is very puzzled as to why until he catches sight of the crane standing nearby, and the fucking metal coffin hanging from it. Spirits damn his people’s ingenuity.
Aang vaults from Flopsie’s shoulders, with Zuko on his heels, and races to the closest window.
“Bumi! Bumi!” He hisses.
The gaunt, droopy-skinned face of a very old man with mismatched green eyes and wild, pure white hair appears behind the bars.
“Aang, is that you?” He asks in a creaky voice, bushy white eyebrows lifting in surprise. “Where did you come from?”
“We’re here to get you out!” Aang hisses, furiously examining the portable cell for weak points, ranting in hissed whispers as he does. “What’s the matter with you, Bumi? Why didn’t you fight against the occupation? Why didn’t you escape when you had a chance? We talked to Yung, and he said you decided not to do anything!”
“Listen to me, Aang,” Bumi cuts in. His tone isn’t anything Zuko can recognize as angry or harsh, but it immediately shuts the airbender up. “There are options in fighting called jing. It’s a choice of how you direct your energy.”
“I know!” Aang snaps, and if Zuko wasn’t standing guard, he would’ve given the brat a whopper of an arrow-flick for talking to a much older master in such a tone, childhood friends or not. “There’s positive jing when you’re attacking and negative jing when you’re retreating,” he counts on his fingers.
“And neutral jing, when you do nothing!” Bumi adds, grinning beatifically. Zuko takes one look at that grin and knows that every disparaging story he'd heard about Omashu's king being insane is absolutely true.
“There’s three jings?” Aang splutters.
“Well technically there are eighty five, but we’ll just focus on the third,” Bumi replies. “Neutral jing is the key to earthbending. It involves listening and waiting for the right moment to strike.”
Like the Yuyan, Zuko realizes. Yuyan combat and archery both rely heavily on watching and waiting for the right moment to shoot or strike. Zuko didn’t know that there was an actual jing for that.
“That’s why you surrendered, isn’t it?” Aang asks softly.
“Yes, and it’s why I can’t leave now,” Bumi answers.
Aang sighs heavily, and leans his forehead against the metal. “I guess I need to find someone else to teach me earthbending.”
“Your teacher will be someone who has mastered neutral jing,” Bumi explains. “You need to find someone who waits and listens before striking.”
The wooden platform they’re standing on creaks as more weight is added, and Zuko can hear the rhythmic marching of Fire Nation guards. He grips Aang's shoulder.
"I hear it too, Zuko," Aang says. "Bumi, are you sure you want to stay here?"
"I have to, Aang, but I'll see you when the time is right," Bumi replies, and his smile doesn't seem nearly as addled this time. Then he peers at Zuko before grinning in a thoroughly unsettling manner.
Thankfully, the marching guards draw closer before Bumi can say anything, and Zuko takes the opportunity to yank Aang away to hide in the closest shadow. He covers the kid's body with his own, trusting in his dark brown and green Earth Kingdom clothes to prevent Aang's bright yellow and orange gi from being seen.
Getting out of the city is absolutely nerve wracking, especially considering that they have a giant goat gorilla tagging along that is absolute shit at stealth. Zuko can't decide if it's a miracle or simple incompetence that keeps them from being stopped by any guards, but they manage to sneak back out of the city without mishap, and then it's simply a long and bone-jarring ride on Flopsie's shoulders to the rendezvous site.
It's full dark by the time they get there, and Zuko immediately hops down, takes off his dao, and begins stretching out the stiffness from the ride and the crazy roof-running he had to do while Aang fills in Sokka and Katara.
Yung stomps up to the group, looking even more grave than usual. "We've got a problem," he states baldly. "We just did a headcount."
"Oh no, did someone get left behind?" Katara asks worriedly.
"No, we have an extra," the general replies, pointing over to where poor Momo is being hugged to death by a toddler in Fire Nation colors with a shock of dark hair and tawny eyes. There’s something familiar about the kid, but Zuko can’t figure out what it is.
Katara immediately goes gooey over the kid, and takes charge of him for the evening, making sure he's fed and kept clean. Once he's freed from the baby's grasp, Momo takes refuge on Zuko's shoulders, hissing every time the kid comes close.
It's after dinner that the messenger hawk arrives. The baby (the Governor’s son, Mai’s brother) is to be exchanged for King Bumi, and while Zuko is glad that the child seems so highly valued by his father, he can only wince at the thought of Ozai’s reaction to such a tactically stupid move.
Noon the next day finds the four of them standing at the foot of the unfinished statue of Ozai, the baby strapped securely to Sokka's chest. Katara and Zuko flank Aang, with Sokka and the kid safely in the rear, and Zuko has to stomp hard on his instinct to keep his hand on the grip of his dao. Sokka had floated the idea of the trade being a trap this morning, and with every moment that passes as they wait for the other side to show up, Zuko finds himself in growing agreement.
Finally three figures appear on the other end of the scaffold and stride forward. Three teenage girls, one immediately recognizable as Mai in the lead, flanked by a brunette in pink and…
Fuck. FUCK.
Azula.
Zuko employs every single trick the Yuyan and court life taught him to keep himself from visibly reacting. His sister looks almost exactly the same as she had over three years ago. Same smooth black hair arranged in a topknot with locks falling artfully to frame her face, same cold polished bronze eyes, same military trim appearance and royal bearing. She looks amazing, sleek and powerful, and Zuko is absolutely scared shitless at the sight of her.
Mai and Aang call across to each other, then Azula turns and says something to Mai, and Zuko knows that whatever she's saying is bad news for his squad. He's frozen, though, because if he so much as twitches Azula will notice, and she'll pounce like a tigerdillo.
"The deal's off!" Mai declares, raising a hand. The metal coffin containing King Bumi is hoisted rapidly up and away, and Aang starts forward with a cry of "Bumi!"
Azula lunges into a horse stance and sweeps her arm forward, a line of blue fire following her extended fingertips and racing in a roaring inferno towards Aang. In the same moment Zuko draws his dao and sprints forward, and as Aang dodges Azula's strike Zuko takes control of the flames with his bending and sweeps them away with a swipe of his blades. The expression on Azula's face is hilarious, but he doesn't have time to appreciate it properly, because she immediately goes on the attack.
Azula fires arrows of blue flame almost as fast as Kai shoots in the Archers’ speed drills. Zuko blocks them with his swords, the steel glowing as it becomes a medium for his own bending, sending back his own swipes of orange flame that Azula dodges with annoying flexibility. Her eyes are wide as she does, though, and he knows that he’s caught her off guard.
Zuko smirks at her, and glories in her furious glare as he lashes a fire whip through the air at her with his right blade. She dodges by leaping into the air and returns with an axe-kick that lays a long line of blue fire to fall on his head. Zuko spins a shield of orange flames to block the attack, and when they die away Azula stands panting through gritted teeth.
Zuko is breathing hard as well, suffused with a savage sort of triumph at managing to fight his prodigy sister to a standstill.
“A Firebending Master traveling with the Avatar," she muses, tone light but gaze sharp. "How treasonous. Mind telling me your name so I can make sure it's stricken from the records? You'll be dead, of course, so it'll hardly matter to you anyway."
As far as you're concerned, I'm already dead, so I'll pass on that, thanks, Zuko thinks, settling deeper into his stance in preparation for her next attack.
"What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?" Azula sneers, moving her hands, folded with only the first two fingers out straight, in curves around her. The air crackles, and blue-white sparks follow the movements. "Let me fix that!"
She points her right hand at him, and a jagged bolt of fucking lightning erupts from her fingertips and races towards him.
FUCK FUCK FUCK!
Zuko drops to the wooden floor of the platform, gritting his teeth and feeling all of the hair on his body standing on end as the lightning roars over his head.
"ZUKO!"
His squad sounds absolutely panicked, and Zuko knows for a fact that the panic will hit him later once they're all safe and as far away from Azula as possible. He glances up through his bangs at his sister, who is sheet white and staring at him with wide eyes, and immediately jumps to his feet and bolts, not bothering to sheath his swords. Appa is waiting at the edge of the platform, and Zuko runs right off the edge and into the saddle.
"Aang, we got him, go go go!" Sokka shouts, as Zuko sheaths his blades and lets a shaken-looking Katara check him over.
"Appa, yip yip!" Aang commands, flicking the reins. Appa roars and soars away from Omashu, and Zuko glances back to see Azula, Mai, and the girl in pink who can only be Ty Lee watching them go.
They land behind a mountain nearly a mile away, where the refugees from Omashu are waiting. Ukano's son is being reluctantly held by one of the Omashu women, who eagerly gives him up to Katara.
"We're going to start heading to Ba Sing Se," Yung declares perfunctorily.
Aang nods. "We need to return the baby to his family."
Zuko takes a deep breath and raises his shaking hands. We need to wait to do that until Princess Azula and her friends have left the city. It's too dangerous with her still there.
"Is that who that blue-fire girl was?" Sokka asks, waving absently as the former citizens of Omashu begin moving out.
Zuko nods, grimacing. I did say that she'd been declared a Firebending Master at thirteen, didn't I? The lightning-bending was new, but not terribly surprising, considering that it's a trait of the Royal Family.
"Why is she here now?" Katara asks, holding the baby close. She looks pale, and Zuko wonders what he'd missed while focused on Azula.
If I had to guess, the Fire Lord probably decided after the defeat at the North Pole that the Avatar is too much of a threat to remain at large, Zuko explains, trying to ignore the slimy feeling that always comes with trying to think like his megalomaniacal father. He probably sent her to capture Aang and either bring him back to the Fire Nation alive, or kill him. With the Comet arriving at the end of the summer, the next Avatar would be way too young to be any hindrance to whatever plan he has to utilize it.
"So we need to stay as far ahead of her as we possibly can, if we want to keep Aang from being flash-fried to a crisp," Sokka decides.
Zuko nods. That would be best, he agrees. As far as I know, there's no way to block lightning. You either get out of the way or you're toast. One hit and it's over.
All three of his friends look green at the thought, and Aang grips his staff tighter.
"We still need to return the baby," he says. "We can wait until nightfall, and I can just fly over, drop him off, and fly back."
We'll need to find a good vantage point to see when Azula leaves so that we know when it's safe for you to do that, Zuko signs.
They do exactly that, and when Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee leave the city just before sundown, Aang straps the baby to his chest as snugly as possible, and carefully glides toward the city. Zuko, Katara, and Sokka wait with Appa and Momo, and as soon as Aang returns, they turn south and fly away as fast as Appa can go.
They make camp at the northern edge of the massive southern swamp a couple hours after midnight. Zuko tries to insist on taking watch, but is overruled ruthlessly by both Katara and Sokka. He spreads out his bedroll, lies down, and stares at the stars.
Fuck. He'd known that he'd eventually have to see Azula again, you can't challenge the heir to a throne without actually coming face-to-face with them, but. He can't actually believe that she's here, in the Earth Kingdom. And she's mastered lightning. The tiniest part of him that is still her big brother, still her Zuzu, is incredibly proud. Only the best of the best firebenders, usually only members of the Royal Family, are able to do that, and the fact that she can, as young as she is… but the greater part of him, the part that had spent the majority of his childhood being tormented by his sister and father, is absolutely terrified. There's no defense against lightning. As he'd told his squad earlier, all it would take is one hit, and that's it. Game over.
He can't let Azula anywhere near Aang. If her actions today have shown anything, it's that she's still the same cruel, ruthless girl she was when he was still living with her. Maybe the brunt of that can be blamed on Ozai and his own cruelty, but right now, he has to focus on keeping his student, his friend, safe from her. Maybe once the war is over, there'll be a chance to see if there's any way to lessen Ozai's mark on her, but for right now, she has to be treated as the major threat that she is.
He doesn't sleep that night.

Preview for Day 7: "Wait for Me"
@kataang-week a short preview of a ficlet
“... Aaaand, done!”
Aang knew it would be impolite to cheer, even though he was alone in the quiet little room where he handled the “Avatar stuff” that mainly required reading and writing long, long memos.
But as he rolled up the scroll bearing his signature and placed it in the pouch of a messenger hawk bound for King Kuei, all he felt was relief. Finally, all the meetings, speeches and paperwork that needed his attention had been taken care of and he could actually relax. Maybe even take a nap in the middle of the day or go for a long ride on Appa without having to worry about being late for an important appointment.
He stood up and stretched before wandering to the window. He leaned out and breathed deep, looking out onto the main street of the Cranefish Town business district, where he, Katara and Sokka had their home. The town was really growing up around them. Their beautiful two-story residence had been the most notable house on the street when the three of them first moved in after the war between Benders and Nonbenders five years earlier, it now was a quaint little townhome dwarfed by estates and towering buildings.
Aang was smilingly watching a few children play a game using a combination of Earthbending and Waterbending that resulted in all of the kids being covered in a layer of mud when he saw a streak of black coming right toward him. He jumped in surprise when the streak got closer and he recognized it as a messenger hawk from the aviary of the Fire Nation Royal Palace. All of those hawks were dark as night and had threads of gold woven around their talons to which were affixed pouches bearing the Fire Nation emblem.
As the hawk slowed, circled and then made a beeline for Aang’s open window, he wondered what the news was from Zuko. Last he’d heard from his friend, he was up to his topknot in preparations for his wedding to his fiancee, Mai. In fact, Aang, Katara and some of the friends who’d fought alongside him at the end of the 100-year war were set to travel to the Fire Nation for the official betrothal ceremony.
Aang was both happy for his friends and a little nervous. He would be the first Avatar in more than 100 years to give the ‘Avatar’s Blessing’ that had been part of Fire Lord betrothal ceremonies for millennia. For obvious reasons, Avatar Roku had not given the Blessing at Fire Lord Sozin’s betrothal ceremony. Aang had to have a talk with Avatar Szeto, who had officiated for the nuptials Fire Lord Yosor, to get all the particulars of what should be done.
“Wonder what this is about,” Aang murmured as the hawk settled down and allowed him to pluck the scroll that protruded from the little pouch. “Maybe he just wants to be sure I talked to Szeto and I know about the Incantation of the Tigerdillo. Hope my throat will be up to it ...”
The messenger hawk was perched on the windowsill preening itself and Aang absently flipped it a rice cracker that it caught in midair. Unrolling the scroll, Aang read the scrawled writing quickly.
Aang,
Please come to the palace as soon as you can. I need your help. Without it, the wedding won’t happen.

Drabble that came to me earlier when reading hc’s about the steam babies:
Kya whirled around the kitchen grabbing various tea leaves. She expertly arranged the tray and swept past the counter to serve another customer.
She loved working at her Grandpa’s tea shop. It was refreshing and so different from the palace she was used to spending her days in. This place was absolutely bustling with activity and here she had more freedom than she ever did back in the Fire Nation. Here, she wasn’t Kya, Crown Princess of the Fire Nation, she could just be… Kya.
Iroh smiled as he watched her work. He loved the summers he got to spend with his granddaughter. She was always so keen to help out and was a ray of sunshine to his days.
She rushed past him again pulling a funny face and Iroh laughed.
She put her dirty tray down and bumped into Ran at the sink. “Hey, watch it Ky!” he complained as the bump knocked his arm straight into the sink.
“Are you a waterbender or aren’t you?” she teased, reaching for her notepad and pen.
“Yeah, but doesn’t mean I like being soaked,” he replied sulkily. “How come you get to serve and I’m stuck doing the washing up?”
“Wanna swap? There’s plenty of people who’d love to chat with the Prince of the Fire Nation out there,” she said, offering the pen and notebook with a knowing smile.
Ran rolled his eyes and tipped his head back with a weary sigh. “Why did Mum and Dad send us to work here again? You know I could’ve been at Ember Island with Shomo and Raoko right?”
“Doing really productive things I’m sure,” Kya said sarcastically.
Ran huffed, his fringe flying away from his face as he went back to his reluctant cleaning.
Kya bent under the counter to pick up a dish rag.
“Excuse me?” came a voice from above.
“Just a second,” she said, before she tossed the rag back in the sink behind her (feeling satisfied at the groan from her brother) and turned back to see the most gorgeous face she had ever seen in her life. She didn’t know eyes could be that green! He must be an earthbender, surely.
She suddenly realised she’d been gawping at him completely silent.
“Uh, what can I do for you?” she said, tucking her hair behind her ear and tugging the ends nervously, a habit she seemed to have picked up from her mother.
“Can I get a ginger tea please?” he asked.
“Oh yeah sure!” she said a tad too loudly. “You sit down and I’ll be right with you!”
She hastily made her way to the kitchen to make the tea, knocking the whole pot over in the process. “Shit…” she muttered to herself.
“Are you alright, Kya?”
She jumped at Iroh’s voice. “Yep, absolutely fine!” she said a little too quickly.
She prepped the tray, steeled herself and made her way out into the seated area. She caught his eyes and felt herself smile. Then she tripped over the green rug in the middle of the floor. With lightning reflexes she managed to right herself just as a tan hand appeared to steady the tray. “Are you ok?” the boy asked.
Kya’s eyes widened. She laughed awkwardly. “I’m fine, just fine,” she said, feeling the tips of her ears burn with a blush as she took the tray from his hands and placed it on the table. “Sorry, I spilled your tea a bit,” she said, “I can get you another-”
“No no, it’s alright,” the boy said with a kind smile.
“Ok, um, great,” Kya said. She nodded her head at him and made her way back to the kitchen as fast as possible.
***
The next few days the boy returned every day. One afternoon Kya was leaning on the countertop lost in her imagination.
Iroh watched from his usual seat. He followed her gaze to the handsome Earth Kingdom boy sitting by the window and chuckled to himself.
He rose from his seat and joined his granddaughter at the counter. “It appears we have a new regular!” he said.
Kya was startled from her daydreaming. “Oh, uh, yes. I mean… who?”
Iroh gestured. “He is a handsome boy is he not?”
Kya blushed. “I… wouldn’t know. I guess,” she said, winning the award for worst nonchalant answer in the world.
“Shame he always sits by himself,” Iroh said. “I would have thought he would have a girlfriend.”
“Do you think he does?” Kya asked a little too quickly.
Iroh laughed to himself but kept his features neutral. “I shouldn’t think so,” he said.
Kya’s face melted with relief. “Ok. That’s good. I mean… that’s fine. Why would I care?”
They stood in silence for a while. “I’ll take over for a while my dear, you could do with a rest,” Iroh said. “Why don’t you go and accompany our new patron?”
“What?” Kya said, instinctively clutching the notebook and pen to her. “No no no, I couldn’t do that, I couldn’t possibly-”
“Make polite conversation with our new, generous customer?”
Kya paused, stumped for a response. “Uh- no-”
“Great! You have a rest,” Iroh said, taking the notebook and pen from her gently but firmly and shooing her away from the counter.
Kya stood frozen, wrestling with herself for a bit.
She turned to face the table. She sighed and drew herself up straighter and made her way over.
“Uh, hi,” she said. The boy looked up at her and smiled.
“Hi,” he said.
“It’s- uh- nice to see you again. Here. You’re a- um- good customer,” she said. Her brain screamed at her.
The boys lips quirked up into an unfairly gorgeous smile. “Uh, thanks,” he said. “Are you… still working?”
“Me? Oh, um, my Gra….boss just said- it-it’s my break,” she managed.
The boys face lit up. “Oh well, please feel free to join me,” he said, gesturing to the chair opposite.
“Ok, thanks,” she said, managing to get through at least one sentence without stumbling over her words. Short as it was, she’d count it as a victory.
“I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before,” the boy said.
“Oh yeah, I’m just here for the summer,” she replied.
“Where are you from?” he asked.
“The Fire Nation,” she said.
“Ah, I thought so. I mean, I didn’t want to assume, but-”
“Golden eyes gave it away huh?” she said. It was a pretty dead giveaway, even if her lightly tan skin and curly hair gave away her Water Tribe heritage.
The boy nodded, smiling a bit sheepishly. “Firebender?” he asked.
She nodded. “Earthbender?” she asked.
He smiled and nodded too.
***
Kya readied herself for her night out.
“You tell anyone I went out, you’re dead,” she threatened her brother.
“Sheesh, calm down, I’m not telling on anyone,” he said from his position lying on the couch. “Just… be careful Kya ok?”
She rolled her eyes at him. “I’ll be fine,” she said.
“Oh and you better not bring him back here, ok? I’m not sharing an apartment with you and your new lover.”
She threw a pillow at him. “Same to you and your new fancy lady!” she retorted.
Ran’s face fell. “I- what?”
“Don’t think I didn’t notice you sneaking out last week!”
“I didn’t- she’s not-” Ran began before his face fell into a scowl and he growled in frustration. “Real nice, blackmail from the future Fire Lady, that’s comforting.”
“Shut up,” she retorted with a smile. She took one last glance in the mirror before she set off.
***
Later that night she crept back into the tea shop, a soft flame burning in her palm to light the way. She could hear her brother’s loud snores from outside the room. She carefully put her pack on the side and went to grab some water from the sink.
Suddenly a loud snore from the sofa made her jump and almost drop the cup. She quickly caught it and snapped her head round. She silently made her way to the sofa and peeked her head over it.
Iroh was fast asleep on the couch.
She breathed a sigh of relief and carefully crept back to the kitchen, putting the cup back in its place before quietly going back to her room.
The door closed with a soft click.
The snoring from the sofa ceased and Iroh carefully lifted his head to glance around the room. Then he chuckled to himself.
***
“Ah, you are both here!” Iroh said, greeting the Fire Lord and Lady enthusiastically. “We have had the most wonderful time! Ran’s been working hard in my shop and Kya has been wonderful as always. She’s even made some new friends,” he said. He glanced over at Katara with a twinkle in his eye.
Katara caught his look. She knew that look. Her gaze flicked over to her husband who, as usual, hadn’t noticed his Uncle’s tell tale signs of having some juicy gossip.
“Sit down, you must tell me all about your trip over,” Iroh said, shooing them into seats around the table.
Just then the door opened and Kya walked through, lost in a world of her own.
“Kya!” Zuko said excitedly. Kya jumped, startled at the sudden presence of her parents.
“Dad! Hi!” she said, her startled face melting into a smile.
“How’s my little sunbeam?” Zuko asked, coming over to give her a hug.
“Great, Dad,” Kya said as he squeezed her tight. She made her way over to Katara giving her a hug too.
“Had fun with Grandpa?” Zuko asked.
Kya beamed. “Of course! I actually said I’d look after the kitchen this morning though so…” she said, backing towards the door.
Zuko smiled. “Of course, I’ll come and help get heaters going.”
“Dad, I’m a firebender, you haven’t had to help me with that since I was like three,” she complained.
“Let your Dad be of assistance if he wants,” Katara said, with a patronising pat on Zuko’s shoulder. He arched an eyebrow at her and she nudged him playfully before turning back to his daughter.
Katara eyed Iroh suspiciously over the rim of her cup as Zuko and Kya left the room. Iroh’s face was impassive, as always, but Katara knew he was dying to tell her something.
“Iroh…” she said.
“Yes?” he asked.
“What do you know?”
Iroh looked around conspiratorially and leaned in. “Kya’s got a boyfriend,” he said excitedly.
Katara laughed. “Who?” she asked.
“There’s a handsome boy who comes to the tea shop, you should see her, she’s been daydreaming about him all day every day since she first laid eyes on him!”
“Oh spirits,” Katara said in mock despair.
“Reminds me of a Water Tribe girl I once had working here who could barely make the right orders because she was too distracted by the other server.”
Katara’s face suddenly became amusingly affronted. “I did not make the wrong orders! And I was not ogling Zuko!” she said.
Iroh laughed. “I believe I said ‘distracted’, my dear,” he said.
Katara blushed, as if the idea of being attracted to her husband of twenty years was still embarrassing, making Iroh laugh even more.
“What’s this boy like?” Katara said, a hint of concern in her voice. She knew her daughter could handle herself but she was all too familiar with how vulnerable feelings for someone could make you, and how much it could hurt when it didn’t go well.
“He’s very kind,” Iroh said reassuringly. “You know the day she met him she tripped over, spilled his tea everywhere!”
Katara laughed. “Oh spirits, I’d hoped she wouldn’t take after her father in this respect…”
Iroh laughed too.
Zuko walked back in and the two quickly fell quiet and went back to sipping their tea.
Zuko paused by the table. He regarded them both suspiciously.
“What did I miss?” he said, his tone heavy with suspicion.
“Nothing, my son,” Iroh said dismissively. “I was just telling Lady Katara here that it is important to spice up a marriage after such a long time together.”
Katara choked on her tea.

flames & deception {zuko}
Request: Heyoo!! Can I request a zuko x reader where Zuko and y/n get into a fight, and Zuko accidentally burns y/n? But instead of y/n getting mad at Zuko, y/n forgives him, kinda like the scene where Zuko and Iroh reunite? Ty!! ❤️❤️❤️(It can be either headcanon, imagine, whatever you’re the most comfortable with!) (*´ω`*)
Pairing: Zuko x Earth Kingdom!Reader
Prompt: After setting Appa free Zuko has a nasty fever that leaves him sick in bed for days on end. While the reader is watching over a sleeping Zuko he has a nightmare, causing him to accidentally hurt the reader.
I’m such a sucker for againsty Zuko😻
“You know I saw a wanted poster for the blue spirit the other day.”
Lee ignored your comment, continuing to pace around his apartment above Mushi’s tea shop.
“You do know what that means, right? If someone spots you they’ll send guards after you. Or even worse; the Dai Li.”
You’ve been dating Lee for about two months now. Even though you didn’t know much about his past, he seemed to be very open and comfortable with you. A couple weeks into the relationship he told you about his evening excursions as the ‘Blue Spirit’. It never bothered you, but after climbing through your window one night all bloody and cut up from a fight, you couldn’t help but worry about your boyfriend.
“Do you hear what I’m saying?!” you raised your voice, annoyed at his I-could-care-less attitude. “Yes.” he responded dryly, slipping his swords into its sheath. You sighed and marched up to him, placing your hands on his chest. “Lee…” you said rubbing your thumbs in circles against his black skin-tight suit, “I just want you to be safe… Please, isn’t there another way?” you reached up to brush his hair out of his face. Before you could reach the black locks he grabbed your wrist tightly.
“You wouldn’t understand.” He lowered your wrist back down to your side, “I have to do this.”
This made you furious. “Oh of course!” you seethed through your teeth, “Of course I wouldn’t understand! You know not everything can be fixed with this little ‘hero’ act you have going on. Am I just not supposed to worry about you anymore?!” you yelled at him.
“Yes (y/n)! You don’t know me! You don’t know the things I’ve been through, the shitty things I have done. Hell, the shitty things I am going to do! You only care because you think I am this wounded, helpless creature, but guess what? I’m. Not. I’ve been on my own for years now and I don’t need you telling what I can and can’t do. When will you get it. I. Don’t. Need. You.”
He was now merely inches away from your face, eyes filled with fire. You weren’t sure when exactly the lump in your throat appeared, but you could feel soft, subtle tears sting against your cheeks. “Well. The next time you’re covered in cuts and bleeding out, don’t come to me.” you said before walking out, slamming the door behind you.
***
Three days after your big fight you received a letter in the mail.
Dearest (y/n),
I am afraid Lee has fallen extremely ill. He has been under my constant care for days, yet cannot seem to break his fever. I know my nephew hurt you, he often speaks out of fear— lashing out at those closest to him. I sincerely apologize on his behalf.
I need to go across town to fetch medicine to hopefully help his temperature go down. Would you be willing to come and sit with him for an hour or two? You are more than welcome to decline. Either way please come by the shop for a cup of tea soon. Seeing your beautiful smile warms my heart.
With all my love,
Mushi
As angry as you were, you knew how much he loved his nephew. You could not stand to break his heart. So, the next day you swallowed your pride and walked into the tea shop with your head held high.
He greeted you with open arms, as if nothing had happened. “He has been asleep for days,” Mushi explained leading you up the stairs to the apartment. “He just needs someone near to refill his water and keep a damp cloth a top his head. He will occasionally become restless in his sleep and thrash around a bit,” he said with sad eyes, “I will be back as soon as possible. Thank you (y/n). Your act of kindness is a gift from the spirits.” Resting your palm against his arm you said, “Mushi, you know I would do anything for you.” He smiled gratefully, bowing before leaving the room.
He looked so peaceful for the first few minutes, despite the small beads of sweat you noticed dripping down his face and chest. You made sure to switch out the damp rag with a new, cool one and refilled the bucket with fresh water. As you were putting the bucket down you noticed a worried expression stretch across his face. Before you knew it he began writhing back and forth, “Lee?” you knelt down and reached out to wake him up.
Before you could reach him, he quickly sat up and hurled his arm in your direction. You quickly jumped out of the way, and that’s when you noticed it. Fire ripping past your body. Your body was far enough, but you left hand that had come up to instinctively block your face was grazed by a stray flame. You yelped and squatted down to the floor, cradling your hand.
“(y/n)?”
You opened your hand, a slash across your palm already fading into a bright red.
“(y/n)… Please tell me I didn’t do that.” His eyes began filling up with tears.
His eyes were fearful. Terrified of what he had just done. Then the pain started to hit you. Panicking you ran to the bathroom, latching the door behind you. Your mind racing as you submerged your hand underneath the cool faucet.
Lee was a firebender.
He pounded on the door, “(y/n) please let me help you”
Was he a spy?
“Shit! I’m so sorry, please don’t hate me.” his voice cracked. It was obvious to tell he was crying.
No. Not a spy. Then why was a firebender in Ba Sing Se?
“don’t-hate-me, dont-hate-me, please just- fuck! I can’t lose you. I need you.”
“Is your name even Lee?” you felt your mouth move before you could think.
You heard him exhale through the sliding door. “No.”
You turned off the faucet, waiting for his explanation. “My name isn’t Lee. My real name is Zuko… Prince Zuko. My father- he. He is the Firelord. Two years ago he he burnt my face for speaking out against him.” he paused, “I was banished from the Fire Nation after that… My Uncle, Iroh and I have been on the run since I was 14. We came to Ba Sing Se to start over.”
You slid the door open. You were terrified to ask, but your heart needed to hear his answer “Have these last two months been one big lie? Is this… Us-” He stood in front of you eyes red from crying, his hair still damp with sweat. “No.” He said sternly, “Not you. Never with you.” His chest heaved as he spoke, “You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I pushed you away. I am so sorry. I don’t deserve you.” he swiped his hand down his face, “I lied to you. I was stupid to let myself forget who I am, the kind of person I am. Being around you just made me feel… Normal. I was lost and confused and I used you. You have every right to hate me.”
“Zuko.” your lips testing the sound of his name. “I could never hate you.”
He sighed heavily. He walked up to you wrapping his arms around your middle, tucking his head into your neck. You curled your arms around his shoulders, embracing his head with your hand, stroking your fingers through his hair. You could feel his breath quicken, his tears damp against your clothes, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I love you.” your body tensed, “Please don’t leave me.” his voice whispered, muffled against your skin. Sliding your hands to his neck, you lifted his head from his chin. “I’m not going anywhere.” you reassured, hands now cupping the sides of his face, brushing the tears with your thumbs. “I love you too.”
He immediately pulled you into him, latching onto your lips. His hand slid up the length of your back, pressing your chest against his. You tilted your head downwards, resting your forehead against his. As he pulled away your hands fell to his chest. “Can I just say…” you sighed. He glance at you through his lashes, tightening his grip on your hip. “Yes. Anything.”
“I like your real name so much better than Lee.” you couldn’t help but giggle. He groaned throwing his head back, “Ugh, yea. My Uncle gave it to my as a joke. I got him back by calling him Mushi though.” You both shared a quick laugh.
“Yea I have to be honest, I had to hold myself back from moaning your name all those times. Lee is such an un-sexy name.” you joked, hooking your hands behind his back. He rolled his eyes jokingly, “I just told you I am the crowned Prince of the Fire Nation and that is what you take from it?!” You smiled giddily, “Mhmm, yup.”
“You are ridiculous.” He said before kissing you lightly. “Come on, I used to burn myself while training as a kid. I know a recipe to help it heal.” he said leading you to the kitchen.

4 with yueki? 💕
kiss #4: an accidental brush of lips followed by a pause and going back for another, on purpose.
It's a little chilly out here on the porch, but inside is - inside is a lot. A lot of noise, a lot of heat, a lot of drunken renditions of songs that may never be heard the same way again. No one is happier than Yue to see Sokka and Zuko in love and building a life together, but it's the kind of happiness that requires a moment of peace and quiet to really feel. And besides, it's not like she isn't used to the cold.
She takes a seat on the porch swing - an excellent touch, she'll have to find whoever's responsible and thank them - and stares up at the sky for a while. It's only clear enough to see random smatterings of stars, and the moon is a ghost hiding behind a cloud, but it's nice. It's calming. It's quiet, is what's important.
At least - it's quiet for a little while, until the door opens and the cacophony of celebration bleeds out into the night. The door closes again, and the beast is contained, and Suki takes slow, careful steps to the edge of the porch, leaning her elbows on the wooden barrier.
Yue gives her a moment, and then says, "You too, huh?"
Suki nearly jumps out of her skin. She swears, loudly, and then twists around to glare at Yue.
"Don't do that," she says, and Yue laughs.
A sliver of moon peeks out and casts Suki in pale blue loveliness, and Yue's smile freezes on her face.
"I just needed a breather," Suki says. "You know what Sokka's like, he'd marry us all if Zuko would let him."
"Has he started crying yet?"
Suki laughs. "I've got a wet patch on my shoulder."
Suki crosses over to the other side of the porch on unsteady legs. She looms over Yue for a second, impressive and statuesque, before dropping down into the seat next to her. And drop is the right word - she might be a little tipsier than expected, or maybe she doesn't know the bench can move, either way, she ends up half on top of Yue.
"Oh!" she says. "Sorry - I'll just -"
"No, hold on, let me -"
There's some shuffling and shifting and holding on for dear life when someone drifts too close to the edge of the bench, but they manage to settle, eventually, even if Yue does end up pinned where she sits by Suki's legs draped over her lap.
"There we go," Yue says.
Suki throws her head back and laughs, "You're a peach, you know that?"
Yue looks at her, eye closed and glowing under a combination of moonlight and Azula's show-off bursts of blue fire on the other side of the window, and says, a little breathlessly, "Thanks, Suki."
Suki still has her eyes closed when she kisses Yue.
Her eyes fly open and she jerks back immediately, lips finding lips where she clearly expected a cheek, and flushes bright red. "Oh," she says again, barely more than a squeak.
"Oh," Yue echoes. She can still feel it on her lips, that sweet-soft tingle of almost.
Suki's eyes are on Yue's mouth, even as she's apologising. "I'm sorry," she says, "I didn't mean to -"
"Hush," Yue tells her, and she does.
Yue leans in, nose bumping nose in question, and when Suki's answer is caught breath and a fingertip coming up to trace Yue's jaw, she closes the distance.
If almost was sweet, this is a sugar rush. This is cotton candy and maple syrup and a head full of cavities. This is on purpose, on purpose, on purpose.

“So, this is where you’ve been spending all your time.” “Huh?!” The sudden voice startled Y/n, causing her to lose her balance from where she stood on a raised stool. Sokka slid behind her and caught her by wrapping his arms around her torso. Though with her feet still resting on the stool, it left her in kind of an awkward position. Chuckling softly, he helped her get on her feet. “Sorry, didn’t think I’d catch you off guard.” “It’s fine, thanks for the catch.” Getting back up on the stool, Y/n grabbed the small rag she had tucked into her waist band, and used it to wipe down the top of a cabinet. “When did you get a job?” Sokka poked around one of the clothing racks as he asked. “Why did you get a job?” “The day after we got here and to make money, obviously. Kind of the point of a job.” “Getting a job when we’re basically honored guests, makes sense.” Walking back over to her, he gently nudged the stool with his foot. “This thing doesn’t seem very stable.” Looking at him with a glare, she smacked him in the shoulder with the rag she held. “It’s not, so maybe don't do that when I’m standing on it!” “Sorry.” Sighing, she went back to wiping down the cabinet, this time going for the top shelves. “And it’s not like I have anything better to do. I can only talk to Momo and Appa for so long until I start to feel like I’m going crazy.” “Nothing better to do? You have friends, three of them, one of them standing right here!” He pointed to himself. “You guys are always busy. Speaking of which, don’t you have an activity to do with Princess Yue?” She tried to ignore the weird knot in her stomach at the thought. Sokka looked at her with a blank expression. “You're never going to let me live that down, are you?” Laughing, Y/n hopped down from the stool. “Nope.” “And for the record, I already saw Yue today…” She raised an eyebrow at him, when he trailed off with a saddened tone. “You alright?” “I’m fine. Just- It didn’t go well. I don’t wanna talk about it. How much longer are you gonna have to do your job?” “Few more hours.” Sokka let out a groan, as he turned to walk to the door. “Guess I’m hanging out with Momo today.” “I’m sure he could use the company.” Y/n tossed the rag she had into a bin. “Oh no.” She was about to go into the shop’s backroom, but stopped at hearing Sokka. Turning, she noticed he had frozen in the doorway. Furrowing her eyebrows she joined him at the door, looking over his shoulder. “What is it?” He kneeled down, and scooped up a handful of darkened snow. “Soot.” Eyes widening, she jumped over him to get outside. Ash was falling from the sky rather than snow, and was starting to coat the ground. She held her hand out, gulping as ash started to gather in her palm. “Fire Nation.” “Yeah, and by the looks of it, there’s a lot of them.”
The pair had joined Katara and Aang at the citadel, the group currently sat on the building’s ground with their backs leaned against the wall. “The day we have feared for so long has arrived. The Fire Nation is on our doorstep. It is with great sadness that I call my family here before me, knowing well that some of these faces are about to vanish from our tribe. But they will never vanish from our hearts. Now, as we approach the battle for our existence-” Chief Arnook raised his arms up. “-I call upon the great spirits! Spirit of the Ocean! Spirit of the Moon! Be with us!” He lowered his arms. “I’m going to need volunteers for a dangerous mission.”’ Sokka stood up from the ground. “Count me in.” Katara looked at her brother with an expression of shock and worry. “Sokka!” Y/n shared the expression. “What are you doing?” Several other men stood as well. “Be warned. Many of you will not return. Come forward to receive my mark if you accept the task.” The volunteers began to form a line in front of the Chief, each receiving a marking on their foreheads with a red paint.
A tense silence settled across the air, as the Northern Water Tribe awaited the Fire Nation's first attack. Several warriors lined up along the top of the tribe's wall, Y/n and the rest of her friends stood with them. The wait was nearly suffocating. A singular Fire Nation ship could be seen in the distance, but there were bound to be more out of sight. Gulping, Y/n’s hands clenched into fist. This was going to be a full scaled attack on a very powerful tribe, it would really be like nothing she’s had to face before. And honestly? It was kind of horrifying. After a brief moment of waiting, the ship catapulted a huge fireball at the tribe's wall, crashing right through the middle of it. Several people were thrown back from the impact, along with the ice and debris from the wall. Y/n pushed herself from the ground, dusting the snow off her clothes, just in time to see more fire balls come over the city walls.
Thus started the relentless attack on the Northern Water Tribe.
As nightfall came upon them, the Fire Nation’s attacks stopped. Neither side had yet to win, and Y/n was sure that the attacks would continue at sunrise when firebending would have more power. “They’ve stopped firing.” Yue said, as Y/n joined her and Katara on the citadel steps. “For now.” She added. When Appa flew in from the distance, Katara pointed at him. “Aang!” The three ran down the citadel steps, to meet him at the plaza. Appa landed on his belly, clearly tired. Aang slid down from the bison’s saddle, sitting on the ground. “I can’t do it.” Aang dropped his head into his hands. “I can’t do it.” “What happened?” Katara asked. “I must have taken out a dozen Fire Nation ships, but there’s just too many of them. I can’t fight them all.” “But, you have to! You’re the Avatar!” Y/n shot a glare at the Princess for that comment. “I’m just one kid.” Aang buried his head into his arms, as Katara sat down next to him to comfort him. Kneeling to his side, Y/n reached out to rest a hand on his shoulder. Eventually, the four gathered into one of the citadel’s rooms, moon light shone through the window. “The legends say the moon was the first waterbender. Our ancestors saw how it pushed and pulled the tides and learned how to do it themselves.” Yue explained, as she looked out at the moon. Katara nodded along with her words. “I’ve always noticed my waterbending is stronger at night.” “Our strength comes from the Spirit of the Moon, our life comes from the Spirit of the Ocean. They work together to keep balance.” Aang perked up. “The Spirits! Maybe I can find them and get their help!” “How can you do that?” “The Avatar is the bridge between our world and the Spirit World. Aang can talk to them!” Katara explained, answering Yue’s question. Yue smiled hopefully. “Maybe they’ll give you the wisdom to win the battle!” “Or, maybe they’ll unleash a crazy amazing spirit attack on the Fire Nation!” Aang widely opened his arms as he spoke. Though the look Katara and Yue gave him caused the boy to clasp his hands behind his back. “Or wisdom. That’s good too.” Y/n leaned closer to Aang, putting a hand next to the side of her mouth to whisper secretly. “I thought it was a good idea- You should ask the spirits about a crazy amazing attack on the Fire Nation.” Aang grinned at her, whispering back. “I will.” “The only problem is, last time you got to the Spirit World by accident. How are you going to get there this time?” “I have an idea, follow me.” The three followed after Yue, as she led them to a courtyard behind the citadel, then to a wooden door. “So is this the way to the Spirit World?” Yue let out a quiet laugh at Aang’s question. “No, you’ll have to get there on your own-” She pushed the door open. “-But I can take you to the most spiritual place in the entire North Pole.” Entering through the door, the group found themselves in an oasis of sorts. Unlike the rest of the North Pole, it wasn’t cold and covered in snow- It was rather warm actually, and there was a landing covered in grass. At the back of the chamber was a waterfall, which flowed into a long pool of water. Two wooden foot bridges led to the grassy landing.
Aang ran across one of the bridges, laughing. He landed on the grass, rubbing it fondly. “I never thought I’d miss grass this much!” Joining him on the landing, Y/n breathed out a laugh, slipping her coat off. “Ah- This is the kind of warmth I’ve missed.” It didn’t seem possible somewhere so warm was in the North Pole but- she wasn’t going to complain. This was great! Shortly after them, Katara and Yue walked onto the landing as well, Katara smiling as she also took off her coat. “It’s so warm here! How is that possible?” “It’s the center of all spiritual energy in our land.” Momo skittered up to the pond, trying to grab the two fish that swam in it. One was black, the other white, they swam in a circle around each other. The three girls watched the lemur, before he ran away from the pond. “You’re right, Yue. I can feel...something...it’s so… tranquil.” Aang sat down in front of the pond, his legs crossed. Closing his eyes, he closed his hands into fist and put his knuckles together to meditate. Y/n moved to stand with Katara and Yue, as the Princess whispered. “Why is he sitting like that?” “I think he’s meditating.” She whispered back. “Yeah- he’s trying to cross over into the Spirit World. It takes all his concentration.” Katara added, also whispering. “Is there any way we can help?” “How ‘bout some quiet?!” Aang turned to look at them. “C’mon guys! I can hear every word you’re saying!” Cringing inwardly, Y/n mumbled a quiet sorry as the boy went back to trying to meditate. After a few moments, Aang’s eyes and tattoo’s started to glow white. Both Yue and Y/n looked at him in wonder. “Is he okay?” The Princess asked. “He’s crossing into the Spirit World. He’ll be fine as long as we don’t move his body. That’s his way back to the physical world.” Y/n nodded in understanding at Katara’s words. “Neat..” Yue started to walk away. “Maybe we should get some help?” “No, he’s our friend. Y/n and I are perfectly capable of protecting him.” “Yeah, we got this.” “Well, aren’t you big girls now?” Zuko’s voice suddenly echoed softly through the area. Gasping, Y/n turned to the source of his voice, along with Katara. “No!” Zuko walked over one of the bridges towards them. “Yes! Hand him over, and I won’t have to hurt you.” Katara and Y/n both took on fighting stances, as Yue ran away from the trio to not get caught in the crossfire. Zuko launched forward, sending several blasts of fire their way. Katara pulled water from the pond and used it to block the attacks, eventually shoving him backwards and knocking him to the ground. Y/n didn’t drop her guard and was ready to jump in if she needed to, but she decided to hold back for now since Katara was handling things pretty well. Honestly, much better than she would be able too. “I see you’ve learned a new trick. But I didn’t come this far to lose to you.” Getting up, Zuko fired another blast at them, which Katara easily blocked. She sent a stream of water at him, knocking him backwards again, before freezing the water beneath him. Katara raised a sphere of water from the pond behind Zuko, and encased him in it before freezing him entirely. “You little peasant. You’ve found a master, haven’t you?” Zuko’s words were muffled by the ice. Right after he stopped talking, the ground started to shake as the ice started to glow yellow and orange. With an explosion of fire, the ice shattered, freeing Zuko who immediately ran at Katara. Watching the two fight with a close eye, Y/n moved to stand closer to Aang- Just incase Zuko pulled something sneaking and tried to grab him. Which he did try to do. Slipping behind Katara he tried to grab Aang by the collar, but before he could Y/n grabbed his arm and twisted it before she raised a leg up to kick him back. Before he could recover, Katara blasted him with a jet stream of water, knocking him much further away from the three. She bent a huge wave of water that pushed Zuko at least ten feet up one of the walls, before freezing him in place.
When Zuko’s head drooped in defeat, Y/n and Katara shared a satisfied look of victory. At least until, the sun started to rise. Y/n expression fell, realizing what that meant for them. Zuko’s head snapped up with a look of determination as the sunlight reached him. He breathed steam, enough to melt the ice that was holding him in place. Sliding down the rest of the ice, he charged at Katara and fired a blast at her. Caught off guard, she was only able to block it partially, and got thrown back into the gate’s post- causing her to be knocked out. Y/n rushed to Aang, standing between him and Zuko, taking on a fighting stance. Zuko breathed out a chuckle as he approached her. “Do you really think you can beat me?” “I’ve done it before.” “I’ve learned a lot since then. More than you ever will.” He shot a large blast of fire at her. Pressing her palms together, she thrusted her arms forward and dispersed the flames to go around her and Aang. Zuko ran at her as she did, grabbing her by the shoulder and shoving her aside. Y/n tumbled to the ground, but made a quick recovery and rushed forward as Zuko grabbed onto Aang’s collar. She threw a punch at his face, which he ducked under, elbowing her in the gut before shoving her backwards again. Leaving Aang for a moment, Zuko stood in front of her, as she started to get up. Her gaze snapped over to Aang for a moment, he was just left to lay on the ground. Instead of trying to attack Zuko, she attempted to jump towards Aang. Before she could get too far, Zuko gripped onto her hair and yanked her back. Gritting her teeth, Y/n reached back to grab his arm, heating her palms to burn him. “I’m not letting you take him!” “I’m afraid you don’t have a choice.” Zuko spoke through gritted teeth, yanking her head back again, before shoving it down to collide with his knee. Her grip on his arm loosened, as her vision started to dot black. Arma falling limply to her side, she collapsed to the ground, when Zuko let go of her hair. “Your decisions have made you weaker, but mine, they’ve made me stronger.” On the verge of unconsciousness, Y/n watched as the Prince grabbed Aang and threw him over his shoulder. “No…”

A whirlwind of time and Iroh was given the opportunity to move to the upper ring and open his own tea shop. Zuko’s internal struggle seemed to accelerate at this good news for Iroh, as life in Ba Sing Se seemed like it might become more permanent than he ever wanted. While there wasn’t much to pack, Iroh and ___ packed and cleaned the apartment getting ready to move.
Watching his girlfriend clean irked Zuko even more so. They were alone, Iroh had gone out to look at the new place and get some furniture for it. She hummed and cleaned, although she seemed fine with the move, she hadn’t voiced any of her opinions, especially once Zuko did, and was silently fuming.
“All done!” She chimed, tossing the rag in the sink.
“Why bother cleaning, some dirty refugee is going to move in after us.”
“Dirty because they’ve lost everything, to the Fire Nation. They have the chance to start a new life, I think they’ll appreciate their new home being clean.” She wasn’t lecturing him, as there was no anger in her tone, more so she was just speaking her thoughts.
He didn’t reply. He didn’t want to. He just huffed and looked out the dingy window.
She sat down next to him and cuddled into his side, resting her head on his shoulder. Her touch and presence calmed him down and he wrapped an arm around her, bringing her closer to him. She looked up at him with a gentle smile and pecked his lips as he turned to look at her.
“Since I’m done with cleaning and Iroh is out. Is there anything you’d like to do? We can go on a date, spend some time together.”
“I just want to be with you,” he rested his head against hers. “I’m not in the mood to go out either.” He admitted in a grumble.
“That’s fine, I can make some rice for lunch and we can just relax together,” she reached for his hand and entwined their digits.
“I’m not hungry right now.”
“Okay, well let me know when you are and I’ll make you something, and you can help if you want. Anything you’d like to do?”
“What do you want to do? I don’t know and I’m tired of making the decisions.” He spat a bit, he regretted it a bit, because he knew she was just looking out for him. But it was true as well. Even though they were engaged all they did was what he wanted and he was tired of it.
“I just want to be with you, as well. I wouldn’t mind going for a walk, back to our little spot for lunch, or even dinner if Iroh is gone longer. But we can do that another day, you already said you don’t want to go out.”
“Anything else you want?”
She blushed a bit, something he wasn't going to let go unnoticed. “No, I already have you, so I’m fine.”
“Tell me what you're thinking, whatever made you blush.”
___ gave him an audible gulp. “I guess it’d be easier to show you,” she whispered.
This made him blush as he comprehended the meaning behind her words. “Why?”
“I want you, to be with you, and we’re alone so certain thoughts invade my imagination.”
“Show me?” When she didn’t move, he spoke again, urging her. “I’ll stop you if I get uncomfortable, but I don’t know what to ask for, since I’ve never done it. So, show me, please. Show me how you want me.”
She sat up a bit, locking eyes with him. “You’ll have to tell me to stop, I won’t feel hurt or upset, so promise me. You’ll voice any questions or concerns.”
His eyes traveled to her lips and the small pendant hanging from her neck, showing they belonged to each other, before looking back up to her eyes. “I promise,” he placed a hand on her face and brushed his thumb across her cheekbone.
She scanned his eyes looking for any hesitation while moving cautiously to straddle his lap, facing him. A blush formed on his cheeks as her hips rested above his. Gingerly she ran her fingertips and nails over his scalp, soothingly, as he closed his eyes in content. She captured his lips. Loving and gently at first, but as her hands rested on his shoulders, the languid kiss turned to many.
Zuko’s heart jumped at the sensation of her tongue in his mouth, taking control and it caused him to groan into the passionate forming embrace. She tugged on his hair angling his head back. Taking over even more. Nipping at his lips and sucking on his tongue, his hands fidget across her back, caressing her while giving into her passion.
The gasps and pants that escaped them both as they made out, soon turned into grunts as her hips moved on his erecting member.
“___!” Zuko moaned as she palmed him through his pants. He opened his eyes when she stopped to see the worry on her face. “Don’t stop,” he whispered before cupping her face and pulling her back for more kisses.
Zuko had no qualms as he realized through their ministrations, his lower half was bare. His dick being pumped by his beloved’s hand while she nipped and sucked on his neck. He was worried about the sudden loss of contact. He followed her movements, keeping his eyes on hers. The lust and fever behind her trance made him breathless and he never wanted it to stop. But the concern he could see on the surface, he wanted that to go away. It was the only thing bothering him.
His haze was abruptly cut at the searing heat of her tongue with a groan that ripped through his throat. As she took him into her mouth and down her throat, his head relaxed back with a moan and his eyes calmed shut as she started to bob her head. As her speed increased, as did his noises, his hand lacing into her locks. He felt close to his release, but he didn’t want it, not yet. He didn’t want this bliss to end so abruptly.
“___,” he moaned again, her name had become a soft chant, he had to stop his mind from racing to even get the word out. “Stop.” And she was off of him, the moment the word escaped his lips.
“Are you okay?” The fret in her voice hurt him, how could she think she hurt him when he was so enthralled.
“Yes,” he cupped her face again. “I was close, I don’t want to cum, yet.”
“Are you sure? I don’t mind, I just want to make you feel good.” The sultry tone she had made him twitch with anticipation.
“I want more, something else,” he kissed her fervently.
She moved hesitantly but with compassionate hands, she slowly removed his shirt. Zuko studied her eyes once his shirt was off. There was more worry than lust this time, the air seemed heavy around them but for more than one reason.
"Can I touch you?" Zuko asked cautiously as his hands rubbed her sides. This seemed to catch her off guard and the worry in her gaze softened again and a flirtatious smile appeared.
"Hmm, where do you want me to touch me?" The soft chuckle that followed after her rhetorical question let him know she was teasing him.
"Everywhere," he nearly growled the words at her before cupping her breast sharply making her gasp. He wasted no time in removing her shirt, happily surprised to find nothing else under the shirt, and captured her nipple in a harsh suck, clutching her now arched form to him as she moaned his name.
Explicit and euphoric waves of heat coursed through him at the sound of his name coming from her mouth over and over again as he touched her and kissed her everywhere, he could reach with her on his lap.
He tugged softly at the waistband of her pants then ground his erection against her clothed entrance making her moan. Before she met his eyes again, the worry plastered over every soft and reddened feature of her face.
"I want you," he groaned at the suffocating perturbation she gave him, once again the hunger in her eyes took over before she stood back and fully unclothed in front of him.
Although he could stare at her bare form for hours and bask in her beauty, the spasm of his member made him reach out for her, taking her hands and guiding her back to his lap. She settled on her knees above him, giving him a languid kiss full of compassion and love.
“I love you, Zuko,” she rested her forehead against his, slowly spreading her legs, the heat of her folds tantalizing above his dick. He grunted softly from the proximity of her heat.
“I love you, ___,” he rested his hands on her hips, ready to help her ease down.
She glanced down at his length, leaking pre-cum, before gently pushing her fingers inside herself, gasping softly, then spreading her essence over his dick.
“You okay?” Zuko asked as she still hesitated.
“You’re a lot bigger than my ex, I’ll likely need a moment, for you to stretch me before I can move again.”
Her confession sent his hammering heart into overdrive, even though he wouldn’t be her first, the experience with him would still get to stretch her, reclaim new parts untouched before. As her folds engulfed the helmet of his dick, he hissed at the tightness before using his hands on her hips and shoving her down roughly onto his girth.
“Zuko!” She screamed and dug her nails in his shoulder.
He moaned her name before kissing her. "I wanted you to feel the pain of me taking you as if losing your virginity to me. I’m not your first, but I want to be the only one to ever fill you like this, stretch you.” He moaned against her lips in a harsh kiss, as she convulsed around him at his words. “Give me more parts of you that are untouched.”
She panted softly and he bucked his hips a bit. "You're so big, baby, you’re,” she gasped as she rolled her hips. “So deep, it almost hurts with how much you’re stretching me. But I want every inch of you.” Her plush lips claimed his as she started to move, the friction that he craved so badly, the grunts he made where muffled from her lips and tongue.
The room was filled with the sound of slapping skin and moist air as she rode him harder and faster. Zuko was biting his lip trying to keep in his sounds, as his hands roamed from her hips to her bouncing breast, squeezing them, playing with her nipples. Wanting to touch her as she moaned and screamed his name when he would meet her hips halfway during a bounce.
Gasping and leaning forwards he touched the betrothal necklace as it dangled and bounced with her movements. His eyes traveled up to her face, her open mouth and gasping sounds. Eyes watering from pleasure, if he could be even harder, he would just from the look of her pleasure wrapped face. He sat up more, securing his arms around her, holding her as tight as he could, sucking on her breast, and starting to thrust up into her.
Panting and nearly drooling from Zuko’s added help, ___ screams started going silent as her coil tightened, making her already tight walls vice around Zuko. Her head fell on his shoulder, as she started to move more urgently and her nails digging into his shoulders as well.
“I’m, haa, I’m close,” Zuko huskily admitted into her ear, as he brought her as close as possible, smashing their heaving chest together, erratic hearts slamming against each other.
“Let go,” she whimpered as she slammed down on him roughly, silencing her scream by sucking harshly on his tender neck.
“No, keep going, I don’t want to stop,” Zuko moaned, but could feel himself slipping from his plea as she pulled on his hair and bit down on his neck, still muffling her moans against his neck. He tried to hold on, he didn’t want this bliss to stop. She pulled off his neck as he twitched inside her.
“Cum for me, baby, give me your all. We can do this again and again. Any day, as long as I’m yours.” Her voice was sultry and raspy with lust as her hips started to move sloppier in their grind.
Her promise, her heat, and the clench her velvet walls constricted around him, finally sent him over the edge, a guttural sound that ripped through his throat as his emission pumped inside her, vibrating his chest against hers. She cried out from the fullness as she climaxed and they trembled together, riding out their orgasms.
The sweat on her skin shined in the afternoon light as she pulled back from him a bit to breathe more. Zuko’s eyes trailed over her skin, taking in her after sex glow and his marks on her neck. She started to move away a bit more, but he immediately stopped her.
“No, not yet, I want to stay inside you a bit longer,” he rested his hands on her hips, rubbing them softly. She smiled at him, his favorite heartfelt smile, brushing sweat off his forehead and moving the strands of his hair that had matted with the sweat.
“Anything for you. I’m yours,” she kissed him gingerly. Zuko blushed a bit as his softened dick and he could feel their liquids drip out of her, one wrong move and he’d be out of her. “How about we clean up, and once you’re rested, and able to get hard again. You could just rest inside of me if you want.”
Zuko groaned at the idea of filling her again, being connected again. “Yes.”
They kissed tenderly before moving apart to clean themselves up.
The sun was setting and Iroh still wasn’t home.
“Where is Uncle?”
“Maybe he became indecisive on a couch.” ___ laughed, Zuko huffed as it was a high possibility. “Well since dinner is done and all cleaned up, maybe we should go to bed.” She stated before moving into the other room, setting up futons. Her bed is always next to Zuko’s, but always with a gap. As she went to lay out Iroh’s bed, on the other side of the room, Zuko moved her futon right up against his. Lying down, he watched her finish setting up Iroh’s sleeping place then turned to see her bed much closer to his.
Zuko gave her a soft smile and opened the blanket to her as she crawled in next to him. Once in his embrace, he kissed her lips gently and they started to talk, about trivial things, small banter before they were both comfortable and sleep weighted on them.
“Goodnight, my prince.” ___ chuckled and kissed him before turning on her other side, her back to his chest.
As he pulled her flush against his front, he whispered back, “goodnight, princess.”
She blushed, but because of the dark and facing away from him, he couldn’t see it. She hummed softly as his nose brushed the back of her neck while spooning her. Sleep started to take over her until she felt Zuko’s dick hard against her butt and he squirmed a bit.
“Babe,” his breath caressed the shell of her ear in a whisper. “Are you asleep?”
“Almost,” she was honest, earlier activities had worn her out along with all the other chores she’d done in the morning. Zuko’s hand traveled and tugged softly at the waistband of her sleep shorts. The other snaked under her thin tank top and formed over her breast, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“I know you must be tired, but I want to be inside you,” barely above a whisper as he licked the outside of her ear. The sex earlier was still fresh in his mind, and like a drug, he wanted more of her, to be connected to her. She lifted her hips a bit, allowing the downward motion of his pulling of her shorts to finally be useful in discarding the clothing.
“I said you could earlier, I won’t deny it to you,” she murmured sleepily.
Zuko’s heart pounds with excitement against her back as he fumbles with his pants, freeing his hardened bulge, hissing softly at the freedom before shoving it in between her soft thighs. He gently rocked his hips as his length rubbed along the outside of her folds, trying to get her wet, desperate to have some friction before resting in her.
“Are you wet enough for me?” He wasn’t sure, he hurt her early on purpose with selfish intent, but didn’t plan on repeating it. He was already being selfish with wanting to rest in her, he wouldn’t push her further.
“No,” she took his hand and guided it to the throbbing nub at the open of her folds. She used his hand to rub herself, moaning softly, as he started to get it on his own, she let go of his wrist.
“Does that feel good?” He asked tenderly as he continued to rock his hips against her pussy and circled her clit with his fingers.
“It feels amazing, it’s like when I was pumping you before. Everything I did to you; you can do to me. Rub me, go down on me,” she moaned, “be on top.”
“Do you want all that?” He nipped at her ear.
“When you want to, when you’re ready, yes,” she sighed lustfully while pushing back against him, closing the space that had appeared during the shift of clothes. "I'm ready for you.” She rubbed the tip of his penis as it poked out from between her thighs.
Zuko groaned at her touch before pulling back and angling his hips to push inside her. She felt even tighter this way, he almost came just pushing into her, he grunted before slamming into her harshly. His name falling from her lips in a pant. He wanted to be gentle, but something about being connected to her, especially in the dark, brought out his hunger. It was so strong, too strong to hold back, he was weak and vulnerable with her. He desired to give her his vulnerability even more.
“Sorry, I can’t stay still as I wanted,” he panted in her ear while rocking his hips, the tight friction felt too good to stop. She whimpered, she was exhausted, but as she pushed back on him from one of his soft thrusts, he knew she wanted it too. Wanted him, the way he craved her now.
“As I promised, as long as I’m yours, we can do this anytime.” A flash in his mind of him taking her anywhere, the tea shop, their spot on the hill, even in an alleyway, made him moan her name. He was going slow but he wanted nothing more than to slam into her, make her buckle, her pleasure wrapped face dazed his mind, making him want to be animalistic. He could feel himself getting close to release and from her quickening pants and twitching of her walls he thought she was too.
Zuko pulled her tight against him and put a hand on her hip to stop her from moving. He gave her two sharp thrusts before stopping and panting in her ear. “I want to stay in you, as long as possible. So, we have to stop.”
“Okay,” she hummed before turning to kiss him. “If you start to go flaccid, even if I’m asleep, feel free to move, to keep yourself hard, if you want.”
“With permission like that, I might not sleep at all,” he growled in her ear moving a bit before snapping his hips against her again. Earning him a soft whine from her.
“That permission only is open, if you sleep,” she yawned.
Zuko moved inside her slowly, in and out, a very steady pace, as if barely moving. Zuko stayed awake for a while, trying to stay hard, moving slowly. Eventually, he realized she was dead asleep, with him inside her, something about it made his heart fill with happiness. His eyes were blurry with sleep as he heard the front door open, knowing it was his uncle, he stopped moving and just begged for some miracle that he could stay inside his love all night.
Zuko woke up with ___ still in his arms, blinking he saw his uncle wasn’t in the room, and his bed was even put away. He listened for his uncle but his thoughts moved to the warmth on his lap, her butt. He was limp but still inside her, she was dreaming but whatever it was it made her folds quiver. He wasn’t limp for long as he rubbed her cunt gently, getting her wetter. The pulse of her walls made him hard again and he was able to start rocking in and out of her again. The gentle sighs she made while asleep made his heart flutter, he pushed up inside her, as deep as he could at the angle. Then he hugged her again, if he could, he’d stay like this forever, or at least be able to start every morning being connected to her. He’d have to talk to her about it, but he had a feeling she wouldn’t deny his request.
Author’s Note: First, I hope you enjoyed this. I think it’s one of my better smuts, maybe not the best, but better than my past ones. Also, fellow smut lovers, this likely will not be the last of the smut. Second, I’m literally in process of re-writing entire scenes of what was an almost finished fic. So I may not post the next chapter, next week. Might be two weeks, but we’ll see how much time I have to write this week, between life and everything else. But with this new process and everything else, I am reaching an ending I like. Also. I’ve said this before, but if you haven’t seen ATLA, the next few chapters will likely be very vague in terms of information..

Taken - Zutara - Part 36
First / Previous / Next / Masterpost
It takes them bare minutes to find the section on the Fire Nation. It's piles and piles of ashes. Zuko wouldn't be surprised if it was Zhao's fault. Sokka raged for a while, kicking up ashes, and spitting curse words that tempted Zuko to cover Aang's young and impressionable ears.
"We won't be able to find anything useful there," Zuko sighs. "Though, I'm not surprised. My grandfather was the one that started the campaign to remove Fire Nation text from the rest of the world."
Sokka groaned. "Have I told you how much your family sucks?"
"Not recently, no."
They spend what feels like hours wondering the halls after that. Zuko tries to find a section on bending, hoping that perhaps some firebending scrolls survived. Meanwhile, Aang finds a painting of some lion turtles, and vanishes as he goes to learn more. Sokka sulks, trailing after Zuko.
They find the star room almost entirely on accident. Sokka was immediately intrigued, and went to fiddle with the machine. Zuko, having found some old bending scrolls, watched with little interest. Until Sokka turned the machine forwards in time.
Zuko stared as it days passed, then weeks and months. Then, it happened. He jumped up, shouting.
"Sokka, go back!"
The Warter Tribe boy paused, then turned the crank back. Zuko stared as the sun and the moon got closer and closer, until...
"An eclipse..." Zuko stared, mouth hung open.
"What happens on an eclipse?" Sokka asked.
Shaking his head, Zuko looked at the date on the dial. August 1st. If this machine was accurate...
"Keep going forward," Zuko said, watching the machine intently. Sokka grumbled, but started to wind the machine forwards, and it was as they entered September, so close to the equinox and the end of summer, that it finally appeared. September 19th. If this machine was true, then they had five months to defeat his father before he burned the world to the ground. And if the machine was right, their best chance of doing so would be barely four months away.
"We need to go," Zuko said, grabbing Sokka to drag him towards their rope. "Aang! We're leaving!"
The bald monk appeared, but so did Wan Shi Tong.
"Leaving already?" The spirit asked, clearly suspicious.
"We found the star room and found out when the comet is." Bowing deeply, Zuko continued to walk backwards towards the rope. "Thank you, for letting us use your study. If we survive the comet, I will try to bring some Fire Nation text here for you."
The owl made a small noise, clearly interested. It watched as they quickly scaled the rope before jumping down to the sand bellow. Toph and Katara turned to look, both in fighting stances. Appa was nowhere to be seen.
"What happened?" Aang asked. "Where's Appa?"
"Some Sandbenders showed up," Katara said, the tension in her shoulders falling away. "They tried to take Appa, but we sent him away while we faught the benders."
Aang, clearly relieved, pulled out a bison shaped whistle to blow soundlessly into. Zuko kept glancing back at the window, as if Wan Shi Tong could still hear them and would come raging through if he heard. When Appa landed, Zuko rushed everyone onto the bison, much to many's confusion.
"What did you guys find?" Katara asked, frowning.
"Zuko and I found a star chart machine," Sokka explains. "We known exactly when the comet is."
"And an eclipse," Zuko says triumphantly. "A total solar eclipse." He gets only blank stares, even from Katara, but Zuko is grinning so wide and manic, he's worried his face will get stuck. "Solar eclipses are known as the Darkest Days in the Fire Nation. It's a secret kept only in the Fire Nation royal family. We're blocked from Agni, and... our bending."
"Whoa," Sokka shrieked. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! So, you're saying, that the Fire Nation will be helpless, and without their bending? For how long?!"
"Usually about eight minutes," Zuko said. "But it's at the beginning of August, and the five of us won't be nearly enough for an invasion."
"Then we go to Ba Sing Se," Toph suggests. "We talk to the Earth King and get the Earth Kingdom Army."
"And someone can head North to tell the Northern Water Tribe," Katara said. "Their forces are weakened from the siege, but even a handful of Waterbenders and Warriors would help."
"And don't forget dad," Sokka said, glancing at Zuko. "The Southern Warriors should be working with the Earth Kingdom anyway."
"Then it's settled," Aang said, though he sounded a bit anxious. "We invade the Fire Nation August first."

And They Were Roommates...
Part Fifty
The village of Gaipan was a sleepy town, surrounded by a gorgeous landscape filled with some of the tallest redwood trees Zuko had ever seen. If it weren’t for the stressful situation he found himself in, he might have taken a moment to appreciate the beauty of the sun sinking into the horizon amongst the tree tops.. but unfortunately now was not the time to take in the wonders of nature around him.
“Uncle would be so disappointed” Zuko thought to himself. Iroh always chastised him for not appreciating the little things in life, but everything happening right now was not a little thing. It was a very big thing. A possibly life changing thing was about to happen to Zuko, and despite the pep talk Aang and Sokka gave him, Zuko’s leg was shaking from nerves. He could feel his hands clamming up, his knuckles turning white from how hard he was clenching his fist, and his entire body was on edge... waiting for the other shoe to drop.
The entrance to the camp sight was just around the corner, and Katara was taking her time with driving on the uneven dirt road. It took everything within Zuko’s power to not yell at her to speed up. His friends were here doing him a favor, he needed to be patient. He took a deep breath in, holding it in his lungs, relishing in the burn before he let the air escape out his mouth. Memories of the text conversations running rampant in his head, the fear that he was too late sitting comfortably in the forefront of his mind.
“Just stay calm, everything will be alright” Zuko heard his mother’s voice in his head, but it felt like a lie. How long had he been lying to himself? About his feelings towards Y/N, his family, his friends, Spirits his life? Everything felt like it was spiraling out of control. What was that exercise Aang taught him again? In for four out for four? Mindfulness? Zuko couldn’t remember and frankly didn’t really care to at the moment.
“We’re here” Katara’s voice echoed throughout the SUV. Zuko felt it then, the drop. His stomach was swirling inside of him and he felt the bile rise up his throat. It was now or never. Zuko felt so sure of himself when he sprinted outside of the apartment earlier today, where did that energy go?
“Are you okay man?” Sokka placed his hand on Zuko’s shoulder, a reassuring touch that he so desperately needed. It grounded Zuko, and he started to believe the lie his thoughts told him moments ago.
“Yes” Zuko replied, Sokka furrowed his brows but didn’t comment on it any further.
“Okay then let’s go!” Sokka’s face broke out into a wide grin, how he managed to stay so calm and collected all the time was beyond him.
“Yea go get your girl Sparky!” Toph shouted from the middle seat. Zuko looked around at the faces of his friends, hope filled all of their eyes. He wished he could have an ounce of their faith. With a deep sigh he exited the car, taking his first step in the dirt and looked at the campsite around him. The rest of the gaang followed suit soon after.
“Do you know what cabin she’s in?” Suki asked as they were walking towards the small campsite. A litter of log cabins surrounded the large fire pit in the center. It was a pretty decent place for a corporate retreat, something Zuko might even consider doing in the future. That is, if this all ended well. He didn’t think he could handle visiting the place where he was painfully rejected within a business setting.
“Not sure I just know it’s the women’s cabin. I’m sure we could ask someone.” Katara answered. She sounded sure of herself, but the way she was fidgeting with her bag gave her away. She was nervous too, and that’s when it dawned on him. Jet. The bane of their existence was here, and Katara hadn’t seen him since he caught him cheating on her with Y/N. Zuko admired her bravery. He had talked this out with Y/N, how much what Jet did to them hurt her, but he didn’t dwell on it too much with Katara. The possibility of running into him must be bothering her. Aang must have picked up on Katara’s nerves too, because he went to go hold her hand and kissed her cheek. Katara smiled at the gesture, and Zuko hated the jealous feeling that crept into his gut.
He wished he could be that way with Y/N, to hold her hand and kiss her cheek when she was feeling down. Did they know the gift they possessed? To be unapologetically affectionate with each other? They must know. Zuko could see it when they looked at each other. He just hoped that he could have that in his future with Y/N.
“Over there! That’s Y/N’s cooler on the porch!” Zuko looked to where Suki was pointing. The cabin to the far left of the fire pit must be hers. The bright red cooler filled to the brim with stickers sat neatly next to the front door of the cabin; he could see the bright yellow EI sticker she bought from Ember Island on the front. Before he even realized his feet were moving, Zuko sprinted towards the cabin. He nearly tripped on the rickety steps on his way in. With a bit too much of his strength, Zuko slammed open the cabin door.
“Y/N?” Zuko shouted inside. The cabin itself was decent, four beds lined the back wall with a wide window separating each pair of beds. The bed next to the window had Y/N’s duffel bag resting at the edge of it. A kitchenette was to the right, filled with the snacks Y/N bought for the trip. To the left was a small table with a few chairs, Y/N’s travel mug sat on top of it in the center. Yep, this was definitely hers.
“She’s not here” Zuko nearly jumped out of his skin from the voice that sounded too close to his liking. He turned around to see a short woman with a blunt bob haircut. Her bandana was slipping off her forehead nearly covering her eyes, where she wore an annoyed expression on her face. Smellerbee.
“Where is she?” Zuko asked mirroring the other woman’s annoyance. He didn’t have time for small talk.
“You think I’m going to tell a total stranger the location of my coworker? You must be dumber than you look.” Smellerbee responded with a huff. Zuko narrowed his eyes at the small woman in front of him. If this was any other circumstance he would have been grateful that she was protecting Y/N, but at the moment Zuko only felt rage.
“I’m Y/N’s roommate and I need to talk to her. It’s important.” Smellerbee looked at Zuko like she’d rather be anywhere else than where she was, and it was really testing his patience.
“She left to go to the lake with Jet awhile ago. You follow that path behind the cabin and it’s a straight shot.”
“Thank you” Zuko brushed passed Smellerbee and ran towards the path, nearly knocking into his friends in the process. He could hear the shouts of his friends behind him, but Zuko didn’t pay any attention to them. It was like he had tunnel vision as he ran through the trees towards the lake. The wind whipped through his long dark hair, sweat forming at the tip of his brow. The trees blurred together as he raced down the path. If Zuko was paying better attention he might have noticed the rustle in the bushes to his right, but he wasn’t paying attention at all. So when he collided into the hard body in front of him, Zuko was knocked flat on his ass.
“Spirits watch where the hell you’re going!” Zuko could recognize that voice anywhere. That arrogant tone only belonged to one person, and it was the last person on Earth that he wanted to see.
“Jet” Zuko gritted out through his teeth.
“That’s my name don’t wear it out” He responded with a curt laugh. Jet stood up and brushed the dirt off his pants and extended a hand to the man on the forest floor. Zuko took it as Jet helped him to his feet. He might hate the guy, but he didn’t want to give Jet the satisfaction of knowing his mere presence bothered him to no end.
“Where’s Y/N?” Zuko asked, aggravation flooding his voice. Jet didn’t respond at first, and just stared at him. He eyed Zuko up and down, as if to size him up. Jet just laughed again, and Zuko was one step away from punching him in the nose.
“Oh wouldn’t you like to know?”
“I don’t have time for your bullshit Jet, just tell me where she is” Zuko took a step forward, towering over Jet’s figure. He took great satisfaction in the gulp Jet took when he did. “Good” Zuko thought to himself, “I hope you’re nervous you fucking prick.”
“I’ll tell you where she is...” Jet paused, and Zuko’s patience meter dropped to a near zero. “Eventually...”
“You will tell me now. I’m not taking no for an answer” Zuko clenched his fists, ready to force his way past Jet if he was going to waste his time.
“Let’s have a chat first, man to man. It’s been long overdue...” Zuko was about to walk past him when Jet grabbed onto his wrist. “Besides... I have some information you’d want to know concerning Y/N”
Zuko could feel his heart sink at such a simple statement. Information. He knew that Jet couldn’t be trusted, but Zuko couldn’t resist his curiosity. He turned around to face the man he loathed, a smug look painted his face as he dropped Zuko’s arm.
“You have 2 minutes, don’t waste it” Zuko crossed his arms across his chest, waiting for the other man to speak. Jet tilted his head towards the fallen tree off the side of the path, beckoning Zuko to follow. The silence was thick as they both sat on the rotting tree, rays of remaining daylight peaking through the trees that surround them. It was eerie, how quiet it was. Just the whistling wind around them to break up the unforgiving silence.
“I know you hate me, but I just want you to listen for a bit. Then you can be on your merry way” he began, Zuko just stared waiting for him to continue. Jet took a deep breath, fiddling with the toothpick between his teeth. Gross.
“I just wanted to apologize to you, for what I did. It was fucked up and I’m sorry” That... was not what Zuko was expecting, his eyes widening in surprise. So this was what he wanted to discuss?
“I was.. an angry person back then. I felt like you’re family personally ruined mine. To be fair I was right, but it was just your dad. Not you. It wasn’t your fault that your dad and his company evicted my family. Hell he kicked out his own son, why would he care about kids from the projects?”
Zuko remembered the day Jet found out who his father was. Before then they were friends, two boys pissed at the world and the cards they were dealt in life. They use to sneak out at night, and roam the streets; stealing booze from liquor stores, smoking pot in parking lots, and just relishing in the feeling of being young and angry. Zuko felt that Jet was the first thing that was his and his alone. Jet chose to befriend him, not out of obligation because of his sister, at least that’s what he felt at the time. They shared secrets in the dark, with only the neon lights of the city keeping them company. Yes, Zuko never told him who is father was, but he did tell him a lot of the abuse he faced. How he was afraid to come home and face his father’s wrath. How he used to wish for anything to stop the pain. He cried in front of Jet that day, and Jet held him and told him he felt the same. That all changed when Jet found out about Ozai. He called Zuko to come out like normal, but instead of the promise of cheap thrills he lead him to an alleyway and beat the shit out of him. Zuko held his own, and eventually got the best of him, but the price of winning the fight was losing his best friend. He told himself he’d never forgive him for what he had done that night, and now the same boy, now a man, is next to him once again with the sun setting around them asking for forgiveness.
“Fuck man you were my best friend.. and I threw it all away for what? Something completely out of your control? Because of someone you hated as much as I did? Losing you is one of my biggest regrets.. close second is what I did to Katara and Y/N” Jet hung his head low, his shoulders tense as he hunched over. Zuko didn’t know what to say at that moment, stunned into silence. He understood what Jet was feeling, succumbing to anger is much easier than processing other emotions: sadness, guilt, pain. Over time the anger just becomes a part of you, and it lashes out. Jet didn’t have anyone to help him move on from that like Zuko did.. he was alone.
“I’m so fucking sorry Zuko. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness.. like I don’t deserve Y/N’s.. but I want to try and be better. I know my apologies and promises in the past have been empty and hallow.. but I can’t keep doing that shit anymore it’s exhausting” Jet looked at Zuko then, his eyes shining from unshed tears. Jet was asking for forgiveness now, like Zuko had done many years ago.
“I forgive you. For what you did to me..” Jet visibly deflated, finally releasing the breath he had been holding in, his body sagged in relief.
“I don’t know if we could ever be as close as we were before... but if you’re willing to try I am. On a few conditions...”
“Name it”
“Stop acting like a total ass to Y/N. That shit needs to end” Zuko requested.
“Done”
“You also need to apologize to Katara, she’s one of my closest friends and I can’t be friends with you if you haven’t done that. She won’t forgive you as easily as I did, and she may never do and that’s her right. You still need to though, it’s what she deserves.” Jet visibly shivered, an angry Katara was a terrifying sight, but he nodded in agreement nonetheless.
“And finally you need to tell me where Y/N is” Jet laughed at this, but it wasn’t the smug laugh he used before. It was genuine this time.
“She’s sitting at the dock by the lake, at least that’s where she was when I left her.” He nodded and put a hand on Jet’s shoulder, the two men shared a moment of peace before Zuko went to stand up. Before he walked away Zuko turned to Jet and put out his hand, his way of extending an olive branch to the man he once called his best friend. Jet accepted it with a smile and they shook on it, what ‘it’ was neither of them knew.. but it was something. Change? Moving on? Something along those lines.
Zuko was the first to let go and turned to walk down the path, the sun light fading quickly. Before he got too far Zuko remembered he had one more thing to ask.
“Hey Jet!” Zuko shouted, Jet turned around surprised.
“What?” he shouted back.
“You’re not dating Y/N again are you?” Zuko questioned, he needed to know before he made a complete fool of himself in front of the woman he loved. Jet let out a full belly laugh, nearly folding himself in half. Zuko quirked an eyebrow, unsure of what was so funny.
“Is that why you hauled your ass out in the middle of nowhere? You thought I made a move on her? Nah I wanted to apologize like I did with you. As if she’d ever take my ass back.” Zuko sighed with relief, but before he turned around Jet spoke again.
“The only bones she wants to jump are yours!” Zuko felt the heat rise to his cheeks, a smile growing on his face. He only hoped Jet was right as he ran further down the path towards the lake.
As Zuko ran towards the lake the smile never left his face. He couldn’t ignore it anymore, Y/N definitely felt the same as he did. He could do this, he could finally tell her how he felt. With newly found confidence Zuko ran as fast as his legs could carry him. He could see the lake through the trees, he was close, so close to her. One more turn and he’d be there.
When he finally made it to the small beach surrounding the lake Zuko whipped his head around desperately trying to find the dock. It was getting dark, both the sun and moon shared the same sky when he saw it. Saw her.
Y/N was sitting at the edge of the dock, her feet dipped in the inky black water beneath her. The golden light of dusk shined on her hair as it swayed with the wind, her skin glowing as if she was made of stained glass. Zuko took a moment to admire her from afar as she sat blissfully unaware of his presence. He slowly walked towards her, gathering every ounce of courage he had.
“Y/N!” Zuko yelled out as he got closer to the dock. Y/N jumped, clearly surprised at his sudden outburst.
“Zuko? What are you doing here?” Y/N asked as she pulled her feet out of the water. She slowly stood up, trying not to put too much weight on her bad ankle.
As Zuko got closer he thought about what he was going to say to her. He thought about how she took his breath away when he first laid eyes on her, how her smile lit up her face. He thought about all the little things he loved about her, how her nose scrunched up when she laughed and when she was annoyed. How she liked to dance around the apartment in her pajamas when she was stressed out. How she put way too much much sugar in her tea, and how she cried when she watched videos of baby ducks. He loved how much his Uncle loved her, his friends, and even though she would never admit it, his sister as well. He loved how she was patient, not only with others but with herself as well. He loved that she knew how to bring the best out of him, and how she was the reason he reconnected with the gaang. In such a short amount of time she became one of the most important people in his life. He wanted to tell her all of this and more.. but instead he said:
“I brought you the bracelet I made you” Zuko reached into his pocket and fished out the friendship bracelet he made with Kiyi. It was a pathetic little thing really, the pattern was inconsistent and the knots at the end were way too big, but he made it for her because he loved her.
“You came all this way... to give me a bracelet?” Y/N asked, her head tilted to the side in confusion. Zuko wanted to smack himself, he barely even started and was already failing miserably.
“Um no that’s ugh, not the only reason” Y/N was looking at him waiting for him to continue. Zuko could feel himself drowning. “Why is this so hard? It’s simple. Three words. I. Love. You. Wait should I say I’m in love with you instead? Y/N says I love you to her friends all the time. What if she says I love you back but she means it in a friend way? I don’t mean it in a friend way. Shit I’ve been quiet too long. Say something you fucking idiot!!”
“Zuko are you alright? Are you coming down with something you’re really red” Y/N raised her hand to feel his forehead but Zuko caught it. She furrowed her brows together, her eyes piercing right through him as he stood their awkwardly holding her wrist. The sky was turning dark, the only source of light was the moon that rose above them. It was late and he was wasting precious time.
“Fuck it” Zuko said as he dropped her arm taking a step towards her, closing the insufferable distance between them.
“What are you talking abou-” Y/N was interrupted with the feeling of Zuko’s lips on hers. It was chaste, but not without feeling. Instantly Zuko melted into it, her lips were as soft as he imagined so many times before. The skin on her cheeks felt warm under his hands where he gently held them, but before Y/N could even register what was happening Zuko pulled himself away, gracefully resting his forehead on hers. Zuko opened his eyes to see Y/N’s eyes blown wide in surprise,
“I’m in love with you. Spirits, I’m so in love with you Y/N” Zuko wished he had a camera then, because the look on Y/N’s face he wished he couple capture forever. He tried to memorize the details of her face, the way her eyes sparkled in the star light, the little gasp she let out that he could taste on his tongue, but most of all he wishes he could capture the smile she gave him. It fit her so beautifully in a way that only she could. She let out a little laugh, the one that made her nose scrunch up in the way he adored.
“What took you so long?” Y/N wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed all over his face, every inch she could. She kissed his lips, his cheeks, his nose, his eyes, his scar, his lips, his lips, his lips, over and over again until they were both gasping for air. Y/N’s heart was so full she felt as if it would burst at any moment.
“In case you couldn’t tell, I love you too Zuko” Y/N giggled in between kisses. Zuko wrapped her arms around her waist pulling her closer to him. Even then he felt it wasn’t close enough. Zuko slowly felt his way up her back, trailing his fingers up her spine, touching her in the way he always wanted to. One arm remained tightly wound across her waist, while the other caressed the base of her head. Y/N gently moaned at the feeling and Zuko swallowed it. He wanted to take everything she was willing to give, nothing more and nothing less. Zuko wondered if she could feel his heart pounding in his chest, as Y/N wondered the same.
They were in their own little world, completely oblivious to everything around them. Zuko and Y/N weren’t paying attention to the fact that they weren’t alone anymore. Neither of them heard the splash towards the other end of the dock, or cared to notice Sokka flailing in the water with Katara standing above him looking very pleased with herself.

The familiar sports car shining in its red shade came to a halt right outside the door for Tony to get out and greet the lone camera covering him. "How's it going fellas?" He seemed comparatively chirpier than the last few days as he whistled his way to the boot of the trunk to take out five boxes of large pizzas along with a whole bag filled with soda and side dishes. "It's pizza party today, my lovely unicorn," he announced to the camera person; mostly because there was no one else in his vicinity.
Tony: *standing next to his car* I have come realise that I have been a bit hard on my team because of the anxiety I've been feeling ever since Y/N disappeared from right in front of me. Like last Monday. *camera switches to the video recording of Last Monday* Tony is seen in the kitchenette making detox juice for himself after a workout. Sam comes and grabs the coffee pot, looking around for a mug to pour himself some. The only mug hanging on the stand is your Brooklyn Nine-Nine themed one. "Well," he mutters to himself, "no one's using this for a while." Just as he finishes the sentence, Tony's hand slips on the juicer switch and the green spill out everywhere in the space, making Sam yell for help. "You are excluded from my will," Tony announces while looking dead into Sam's eyes before pouring the coffee from his pot into the sink and walking away. *back to present* Tony: Pepper says I went overboard but Sam didn't have to say that now did he. *makes a cringe face* Anyways. This is my way of showing them that I have made peace with the situation for now and that I trust our alien friends to get my daughter back to me asap.
Tony walked into the facility to be greeted by dead silence. "Did I miss something?" he wondered out loud for the camera while looking around the lobby and the waiting area. "I am pretty sure we were not supposed to go out anywhere thanks to that stubborn virus." He walked up the elevator to be greeted by Clint coming back from the security room with his self-regulated watch, carrying two glasses of iced Americanos- one of which he offered Tony. "Pizza-" he seemed happy to see the boxes, taking the bag from Tony- "what's the occasion? Are you firing one of us? Is there a budget cut because of the 'Rona? In that case, just know that I spot a person without a mask from miles. And I can end them right there." Tony pressed the button for the lounge and waited for the camera to record his wink and smile till the doors closed to let the other handy camera in the elevator- following Clint- take over. Clint did a survey of the bag and was quite content with the contents. Tony, still with his glasses on, walked his usual walk that displayed well that he owned the place. "No one's getting fired unless they are eating my choco-chip ice cream." "You have set the bar pretty low." "It's pretty much up to the expectations I have from you all."
Clint shrugged and went on to agree with him, walking behind the Iron Man as the elevator dinged. The camera followed Clint and Tony out to film the scene unfolding in the Lounge. Manoeuvring away from their shoulders, the camera caught that deadpan silence in the room filled with nearly every Avenger staring at the screen with the seriousness of defusing a bomb that may go off any time. Peter was hiding under Scott's arm, peeping at the screen through his hands while Scott was biting his nails, nervousness dripping from his forehead. Wanda held Vision's hand while she muttered something under her breath- most probably a chant. Sam seemed to have forgotten he was watering the plants for the water-can was already empty and yet he still went on to pour the contents while his eyes were glued to the screen. Bucky's hands were busy brushing Zuko's fur- while the pupper took this opportunity to lay in his lap and snooze- monotonously, his gaze too stuck on the screen. "Come on, come on. Do it," Steve muttered while on the edge of his seat on the sofa. The camera swivelled back to Clint and Tony- both of whom had confused looks on their faces by now. Both of them turned to the screen in sync to witness what exactly was it that had all of them in such a grim state. And it was something like this.
On the screen was a barely lit space that seemed like it could have been a small closet under somebody's staircase. In that barely lit space, you could be seen from your abdomen up. There you were, panting, sweating, your hair a literal mess, your bra strap dangling out of your tank top's straps. "Again," you panted, wiping the sweat beads from your forehead while positioning your hands on a surface where the camera was seemingly recording you from. And in that same dim light, a movement was discovered behind you. That movement was of the exposed muscles and skin that the viewers had never seen in their daily life. Well, neither had they seen that very person pant and sweat like this before as well. Green eyes shined in that bare light, as the familiar face came out from the shadows to apparently hover just above your shoulder. One pale hand was used to remove those clammy hair strands coming in his way before both arms mimicked your position and came to rest on either side of your arms. "Are you sure?" Loki's voice, breathless and heavy, questioned you with sincerity while his body did not budge from behind you. You nodded. "Again." The frame caught you adjusting your hips to position your butt right with his front- something that was not covered by the camera. He towered over you, adjusting to your height while grounded his arms on the surface. "Okay then," he whispered, taking one arm to move your butt a little closer to your frame before going back to anchor himself to the surface, "here we go."
The iced Americanos created a crackle and bang louder than expected- thanks to the already looming silence- when they hit the floor. The pizza box and other snacks? Not so much. Every other person jumped where they were to turn and watch the colours from Tony and Clint's faces drain away by the second, their jaws unhinged, their hearts at a pause and their lungs just no longer working. Steve- the only one in the room to have deciphered what had just gone down in those Dad brains- got up and raised his arms till his chest as of sign of caution. "It's not what you think. Tony, Clint it's not-" The elevator dinged and out came Natasha and Bruce with four feet long bags of Cheetos and popcorn, the former quite excited to rush out into the Lounge. "We found the snacks from the pantry! Did we miss something? Did they put it in yet?" Steve winced just as Bruce blurted out those words. Tony was already heaving audibly, no air going into his lungs as he nearly collapsed on the floor if not for Natasha holding him up like she was used to it. Clint, on the other hand, had 'disgusted' written all over his face, judging every single person in the room before storming out. "OH MY GOD!!!! OH MY GAAAAA~" the screams could be heard from outside while the camera zoomed in on Natasha's face- already bored and tired.
Natasha: If they had more than one working brain cell they wouldn't have fought like twelve-year-olds in the middle of an airport and then stopped talking for a whole year. *camera pans in on her face* *faces the camera* And to think they can procreate. .
One Hour Ago Eight Hours Earlier In A Galaxy Far Away One of the camera drones stepped over a stone wall and passed over a dozen guards, buzzing its best to enter the first window it could find. Passing over ogres guarding the small galleries, another drone accompanied the first one down the maze of hallways, parting at the stairway leading down to the dungeons and up to the meeting room. The way to the dungeons was one dark path that only lit up at the very end of the hallway- few lamps burning with constant flickers. The space was divided into walls and covered with iron bars. A few of these cells were empty while others housed creatures who are only spoken about with the name of their shadows. In the last cell was a shadow that seemed similar to that of a human sleeping under the lone ragged excuse of a blanket. If one tried to focus, they could hear light snores coming out of that creature too. The drone came to rest upon one of the iron bars, sending in the live feed to the cameraman behind this whole shebang. The other fly had already found the 'throne room'. The throne- as one could make out with the setting of the hall- was made out of a tree trunk burned till all that was left was an ash-covered dead piece looking up at the sky. The seat was carved right through the middle with one of the ashened branches housing a black adder with red eyes. And in the throne sat the one person no one wanted to see. "Aellae," you mumbled in the most derogatory sense, your eyes wanting to hurt her there and then through the screen in Javier's hand. And lo! Right then the God stepped in the frame, standing in front of the witch with his usual demeanour. Well, that's what it looked like. "Why do you have to bow to her?" You whispered at him a bit viciously. White entered the frame that was recording your end. Looking at the screen he furrowed his brows and wondered how you could tell that. "He stands straight," you stressed, already sensing the question from White, "and right now he is not. And he does not not stand straight for anyone." "I see you have found yourself a fine pair of pets on your galactic travels, my love," you and White hear Aellae from the screen, bringing your attention back to her. "Just a bunch of humans and a kitten to entertain me on my way," he chuckled and shrugged a little, that Asgardian charm resurfacing in his smile. Aellae smirked at him. "On your way to where?" The question had a hint of anger even when she added a wave of curiosity, something that was easy to catch of the one who was listening to layers in her voice. Loki waved his hands in the air. "You know how it is for me. Here and there, always on the move. A nomad exploring the universe." "No more," she announced, her head high, her stare stern, "now you stay with me. You will be my advisor in the day, guiding my army to every corner of this world, with nothing to spare." She got up from her throne to walk an inhumanly seductive gait to reach the God and place her finger under his chin. "And in the night, you shall be my pacifier," she whispered, making your whole face cringe for the camera to zoom into it. "You shall satiate all my bedly desires till I the very. last. drop." Something cracked on the other side, making Javier and White turn in every direction to look at the source of the sound. Lulu too was a bit confused. You were the only person not taking your eyes away from the screen.
You: I swear to God if she was not such a bitch, I would have asked her out. Would have even gone to lengths of being her *makes air quotes* bedfellow if she was not such a fucking bitch?? Javier: *turns the camera to himself with the dazed look on his face* *signs for the camera* I am supportive and all in for this but is now really a good time for her to be questioning her sexuality? When we can literally die for just breathing wrong???
"Now," Aellae snapped everyone back to the screen, "as for those pets of yours, I'll send someone to take care of them. They are just hindrance if nothing more." "Aellae," Loki's honey laden voice was now implying a sternness. "What." "They are not to be given enough importance to be-" Loki sighed and closed his eyes- "taken care of." "All the more fun to watch them die in misery." Her eyes widened with excitement at the thought of murder. "Especially that Midgardian who is living in the illusion of being your friend." Loki's jaw tightened. "If you decide to harm h-them, I will not aid you in your irrational quests, Aellae. Going after those weaklings proves that you are still the reckless stubborn creature that I left you." There wasn't an exclamation of surprise on her face but rather that particular smirk of the devil who has walked its prey right into its trap. "So, she does mean something to you." Loki kept mum. "Guards!" she yelled for the two orcs standing outside, "bring me the head of the woman!" "Aellae, stop," he begged casually. "Enough humour." "And do whatever with the rest of her!" she ordered with her eyes piercing through Loki's soul.
The next thing you know, the last fly drone that got lost on the middle floor somewhere was recording two orcs throwing Loki into a room before shutting the door behind him. His grunts echoed through the room with no windows. All around him were walls coloured in a dusty cream shade, lamps lining up the four walls with one dressing table sitting with one of the four walls, housing heavy chains, the purpose of which Loki did not want to know. He huffed as he stood up, looking at the door before letting his gaze land on those shackles on his wrist that now seemed permanent. The tension on his jaw did not go unnoticed by the tiny roommate before he slammed those bracelets- along with his wrist- into the wall in pure animalistic rage.
Witch's Den- Down the Hall Two orcs stood guard to the entrance coming to the floor via the stairs. One of them seemed to be snoozing with all the pressure sitting on his nose and brows while the other one was trying to drive away this one stubborn fly that kept buzzing around its head. Eventually reaching the threshold of irritation, he followed the fly out towards the stairs, his curved sword being swung into the air to strike the buzzing creature; only to be taken by surprise with a bright source of light. The next thing the fly was recording was the other orc waking up to the clunk of a sword dropping, this one finding gasping and taking an attack position before the camera went dark.
But not for long.
The fly in Loki's room recorded the God catching the sounds outside while he was in the middle of surveying the whole room for an escape route. The grunts and gasps of orcs outside have stopped, making him all the more cautious to the steps that steadily approach the door. He took one of the chains in his hand, with calculated steps, walked towards the door to catch whatever tried to come in next. With the sound of a heavy key twisted inside the keyhole, the wheels turned and the door opened a smidge to let someone in. Without losing even a second, Loki wound the chain around your neck from behind you, nearly choking you. "Not now, dammit!" you choked, trying to free yourself from the hold. "Y/N?" the surprise stirring along with confusion was a new shade on Loki that you would have appreciated any other day. "Wha-what are you doing here?" That God wasn't even able to squeak on realising it was you. The chains came off as fast as they had gone around your neck, giving you room to breathe and widen your eyes in horror. "No! No no no no noooo!!" You ran towards the door as it clunk shut, leaving you to pull at it with all your might to no avail. "The door opens from outside," you groaned with a sob, thumping your head on it with low winces before a tiny realisation hit you hard enough to stop and look back at Loki. "Ow!" He yelled at the hard slap that came for his back, looking at you in simmering confusion. "You could've waited to choke me after we got out, you fucking IDIOT!" The slaps and punches got more vigorous with each word until Loki had to gab your hands with his to stop you from wasting your energy anymore. "And what makes you think coming here was a good idea?" He struggled to keep your writhing form from hurting itself more than him. You were ready to kick him in his shins and you would have absolutely done that if Loki had not shoved you into the wall with him towering over you to restrict any movement of your limbs. The little buzzing drone came to sit over Loki's arm and capture the frame where both of you were flaming with anger and still trying to breathe enough to keep that rage alive. "I'd already told you were on your own," he grunted, his eyes drilling through your soul. "And I'd already told you I am a psychology major. I can see the denial routine from miles away, you stupid blob of six-foot galaxy brain! You think I haven't sacrificed myself to a professor for the sake of my friends?" "...what? Wait. What do mean by sacri-" "Now get off me and find us a way out of here." You pushed him back. Well, at least you thought you did. But he pushed closer to you, shooting emotions of mild surprise in your eyes before you caught yourself slipping. Fortunately, this little drone caught everything in 4K. From the veins popping in Loki's neck to the parted lips and wavering gaze of yours. "This world is not a joke, Y/N. There was a reason you were left behind. And you have done the exact opposite of that which is supposed to keep you alive." It felt as if Loki had to restrain from spilling that anger over the rim. To make that hypothesis true, he punched the wall to dissipate this emotion he did not want to be running him. And there he stood, his head hanging above you in defeat, his eyes closed and his breath wavering. "I was supposed to send you home safe," he was barely able to mutter. The drone focused on your hands coming around his torso, your arms taking as much of his frame in a hug as possible as you softly patted his back and soothed him. Loki's body twitched a little at this new touch, still like a stone before giving in with every wave of your soothing touch. "You're family, idiot. I'm not gonna leave you behind with some crazy bitch that isn't me?" A chuckle resonated through you and then the room. The next moment when you looked at him, he was looking lighter. "Now come on, use your muscles and drill through one of these walls." Raising his good brow, he judged you while tapping his fist casually on the wall. "What exactly do you take me for?" "A cheesy brooder who's all soft inside," you commented without skipping a beat, looking around to find some kind of a loophole in this square room. "Say that outside these walls and watch what this brooder does to you." "Sounds like an invitation," you sang under your breath, tapping the walls. It took a while. A while that was long enough for you to move around the room to come and sit on the lone drawer by the wall, feeling the heat of the room bursting out the sweat in your skin, other than turning your brain into an irritated mush. You groaned while taking off your top and throwing it on the floor. You wanted to cry out loud to blow off some of the unbearable heat but stopped short at the sight of that overcoat coming off. Followed by that black shirt. Muscles. No matter how he moved or what he did, his back lived in that moment to tease you with those muscles. And what was that? Sparkles? No, sweat, glistening in the dim light. Wait, why was it glisten- You looked around and realised the lamps were at their wick's end. "Same," you sighed as you looked back at Loki's back, only to find him turned around to face you. "Oh, Gods!" you jumped down from the drawer with quite the surprise in your eyes. "This is your first time seeing me shirtless?" It almost felt like he was genuinely curious. "What? No! I don't know. That wasn't the-look!" You signalled him to come closer and let your hand hang right above the drawer's top that touched the two corners of the wall. Loki mirrored you and realised it instantly. "That's a cold breeze." He looked at you with pupils expanding wide in that dim lighting. Taking over from there, he tried his best to get a look as to which section of the wall it was coming from. "There's an opening-" he immediately shifted his position to standing parallel to the length of the wall, his hands grounded on the varnished top- "we will have to either pull it-" he tried his best but the structure did not budge- "or push it towards the opening in that section." You got to work as well, standing next to him and giving your end of the small corner a good push that only ended up in failed grunts. "Okay, let's try another way," you inhaled, "I'll push the top, you be the bottom."
The drone was sitting on the drawer now, capturing all those failed attempts from every angle both of you thought possible before you nearly collapsed due to lack of air. "We're are clearly doing something wrong here," Loki huffed, his puffed-up chest, the centre of the camera's frame. You flipped your wet hair to show your tired face in the lone lamp that burned in the room. "There weren't any more of those BDSM chains inside it, were there?" Loki's breathing stopped for a moment. You looked at him for an answer. Both of you moved to open the drawers. The drone captured the disappointment in your own IQ in high definition before watching you both taking them out with nothing but pure spite. "Take a break, I'll try-" "No," you shook your head and wiped the forehead sweat, "let's do it together." Loki wanted you to stop but that you gave him was more than adequate to let anyone know you won't listen right now. "This time you stand behind me and let's use the wall behind as a supp....ort? Wait how is this room looking shorter?" You were looking around in dazed confusion while Loki closed his eyes. "It's not a normal room. Those two walls will keep closing in until..." He didn't have to say more. "Well, then what are we waiting for?" the drop of panic in your high pitched voice was evident as you positioned yourself- putting your palms on the edge. "Come on." Loki came to stand behind you, copying your position, just a bit more charismatically- and with a bit more skin- till he felt your hair come into his mouth. "One, two, three!" This time the push did budge the drawer chest a bit but your strength had been used for that movement of a centimetre. Your breaths almost felt like your lungs were on the verge of crying. "Again," you panted, wiping the sweat beads from your forehead while positioning your hands on a surface where the drone was seemingly recording you from. Loki looked at your back, clearly concerned. This time he used his hand to remove those clammy hair strands coming in his way before both arms mimicked your position and came to rest on either side of your arms. "Okay then," he whispered, taking one arm to move your butt a little closer to your frame before going back to anchor himself to the surface, "here we go." Both of you had your eyes stuck on the wall with a fiery gaze and an aura that would have burned this place to the ground. His muscles tried to take all that you could not. And just when the grunts were turning into screams, the drawer started to move from its place with a screeching noise. As soon as Loki noticed a decent enough opening in the wall to your and his side, he pushed you and himself in through the opening before the death walls came for your limbs. The drone fly followed. Both of you rolled through what seemed like a tunnel slide through the walls for a minute till that just did not seem to end. It did end though. It ended in a noisy fall of thuds and groans- you on top of him. "You okay?" you winced through your broken voice, not moving a muscle for the fear of breaking something. Also because it was awkward lying over him on your stomach. Loki replied with a quick wince. A ruffle came from next to you. Followed by a lazy groan. Your head turned to the noise. So did Loki's. "You two could have easily waited for another hour." The drone swerved around to bonk into the one that was already there, covering the dungeons. There under the rugged blanket, laid Carol Danvers, looking at the two of you with sleepy eyes. Neither of you knew what to say. She looked at her watch and put her head inside the blanket again. "Five more minutes."

Zutarians, I need some help...
Happy Zutara week, y’all! I’m Lil.
I’ve been working on my fic for...awhile now, and I’m at the point where everything’s kind of turned into word salad. I’d like to finish this thing, soon, but I need editors - badly. So, if you’re one of those folks who can write. (And particularly if you can write Katara or Zuko’s voice really well.) Please, please take a look. Friendly feedback is welcome!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/25653406/chapters/62276836
And here’s an excerpt from a Zutara moment below the cut:
Katara looks out from high up in the north wing of the palace—reserved especially for the royal family and their guests. She can see across acres of bleak concrete pavement leading up to the palace gates and, behind them, the jagged volcano walls of the capital city rising in the distance. It isn’t a particularly comforting sight.
Fifty-six bacui berry, fifty-seven bacui berry, …she counts to herself. Until, finally, she reaches one hundred bacui berry, and turns away from the gray window, back towards Azula’s wide canopy bed. The princess’s mouth hangs open and a trickle of drool spills out, but otherwise, she looks better than she had an hour ago. Katara removes the last acupuncture needle from her wrist and places it onto a gauze pad, which she rolls up and hands to Zuko.
“These need to be sterilized in a white-hot flame for twenty minutes before they can be used again,” she instructs.
Zuko puts a hand up to the bundle. A flame appears at the center of his palm. “Do you want me to just—?”
“Sorry Zuko, but you’re not hot enough,” she says, without thinking.
The corners of his mouth flicker upward into the kind of smirk she hasn’t seen since his ponytail days. Spirits, he’s infuriating, she thinks—grateful that her skin is dark enough to hide a blush. She removes the rest of her supplies from Azula’s bedside and takes a seat by the window, trying to ignore the burning sensation of Zuko’s eyes lingering on the back of her neck. She forces herself to concentrate on the little vials and instruments in her hand, but it’s no good. Everything is in the wrong place. She’ll have to take it all out again and repack it later.
“Katara,” he says, coming up beside her at the window. “Did you ever read Love Amongst the Dragons?”
Katara shoots him a wry smile. “No,” she says. “Funnily enough, we didn’t have a lot of fire nation epics in our village library.”
“Azula made fun of me, but I always liked it.” He smiles a little to himself, then points, drawing Katara’s attention to a spot on the grim horizon. “Do you see that mountain, there? The one that curves?”
Katara shivers, drawing a little closer to Zuko. “The one that looks like a claw?” she asks.
He nods. “I know, it’s scary, isn’t it? If you believe the old story, it’s the claw of the great dragon, himself. It’s where the name of the district comes from — Kaa Garr. Great Dragon. And, right there where the mountain turns in on itself…” he moves his finger up the pane a little so Katara can see a black spot in the distance, “is the prison where I’m keeping my father.”
Katara lets out a little involuntary gasp and presses her fingers to her mouth. Zuko looks down at her, a wry glint in his eye. “If you thought my sister’s arrangements were bad,” he says, “you should see his.”
“I’m sorry,” is all she can think to say.
“Don’t be,” he shrugs. “You know my father isn’t exactly a nice guy. I didn’t get this scar on my face from a training accident, you know?”
“I know,” Katara says, reaching up to touch the edges of his burned skin with the practiced hands of a healer.
In truth, they had never really talked about how he’d gotten his scar, but Katara had heard rumors going all the way back to her time in the Fire Nation with Toph, Sokka, and Aang. Zuko allows her fingers to wander over his scar for a moment, tracing the lines and folds on the puckered skin. He gets lost for a minute in the phantom sensation—wondering if he’s only imagining the gentle pressure. It’s so tender and intimate that his breath catches in his chest for fear that a sharp exhale might disturb the delicate balance between them. But then Azula flops over in bed, bringing Zuko back to himself. He clears his throat, and Katara’s hand drops to her side.
“It just makes me wonder if I should be trying to help my father…you know…the way you’re helping Azula.”
Katara tries not to let her emotions show on her face. She does not believe for one second that Ozai is entitled to the same treatment as his daughter, but she also believes that, ultimately, the decision is Zuko’s to make.
“Do you think your father deserves a second chance?” She asks, trying to keep her voice even.
“No!” he shouts, raking his fingers through his hair in frustration. “That’s the problem, I don’t think he deserves it! But I can’t figure out why. I mean, he not that different from my sister, is he? But, every day, I felt guilty about Azula, and every day I’m grateful that my father is still locked up!”
Katara watches as Zuko paces back and forth across the antique carpet, winding himself up. “Then you came, and I feel better about Azula—I really do, Katara—but now I’m suddenly guilty about my father. I’m the fire lord, shouldn’t I at least be fair?”
“Zuko,” Katara says, holding out an arm to stop his pacing, “Don’t take this the wrong way, but when was the last time you had a bath? Or slept in a real bed?”
He blinks down at her, “Uh, it might have been a few days. Why?”
“I think,” she says, using her most soothing voice, “that all these big questions can wait for a day or two while you rest.”
He looks skeptical, but Katara insists: “Look at you, Zuko, you’re exhausted. I’m not saying that it won’t be difficult, but I promise it will all seem better in the m-morning.” As she says it, she stifles a yawn, and Katara suddenly realizes that she, too, is exhausted.
Noticing this, Zuko takes the medicine bag from her hand and, after checking all of Azula’s locks, leads her down the hall to her room. It’s hard to tell with Zuko, but he seems excited about something. The corners of his mouth keep twitching up, like he’s trying to hide a smile. The whole of the third-floor hallway smells like fresh paint, even though the hallways look the same as they’ve always been. It makes Katara’s head swim. When they arrive at what she assumes will be her bedroom here in the Fire Nation, Zuko throws open the door for her, and Katara gasps.
The room is in the style of the Fire Nation—a wooden chest for clothes, a low-slung writing table, and an imposing four poster bed, but the details are all Water Tribe. The walls are covered with bright blue paper depicting life in the poles. The furniture handles are all solid, gleaming mother of pearl. The bed is strewn with gigantic, fluffy pelts that could only have come from the south pole.
“What do you think?” Zuko asks, studying her face. “Is it too much? I had rooms made up for the Earth Kingdom and the Air Nation, too. I don’t want you to think I’m abusing your culture, but I do want my guests to feel welcome here. I know the Fire Nation royal palace isn’t anybody’s favorite place.” He winces, thinking about the terrible stain of his father’s legacy.
Katara considers Zuko kindly. He’s hovering just outside the room—neither in nor out. She realizes that she’s never felt more warmly towards the young fire lord.
“You’re a lot like your uncle, you know that?” she says, after a minute.
Katara watches as his guarded features break into a genuine smile. “Thanks,” he says, running his fingers along the edge of the doorframe. “You know I was hoping you or your brother would be the first ones to use this room.”
“You’re lucky it’s me! Sokka would be jumping on the bed, already.”
Zuko laughs, and Katara grins with pride. It’s not easy making Zuko laugh.
“I didn’t even ask!” He says, eagerly. “How is Sokka? And Aang?”
Now it’s Katara’s turn to look guarded. “Sokka’s fine,” she says, trying to keep her voice neutral. “He’s angry because he can’t go to Ba Sing Se without Appa…” Then, anticipating Zuko’s next question, Katara explains everything in a rush: “Aang left for Omashu. He got a letter from Bumi saying that the city was unstable, and he left me and Sokka behind.”
Zuko’s reaction is not what Katara expects. His eyebrow furrows, and he lets out a troubled groan, so sharp and low that Katara can almost feel the reverberations in his chest. “Katara…Bumi is dead. He died about a week ago. Didn’t Aang tell you?”
“Oh,” is all Katara can manage. She plops herself down at the end of the bed and looks up at Zuko, dazed. “No, Aang hasn’t written to me since he left for Omashu.” The admission earns her a sharp sideways glance, but she doesn’t notice. She’s too wrapped up in thoughts of the Earth King.
“What happened?” she asks.
“I don’t know,” he admits, lowering himself down beside her on the bed. “The Fire Nation has…informants…in Omashu, but I haven’t heard from them in a few days.” The way he hesitates before the word ‘informants’ makes Katara wonder if he is uncomfortable having spies in the Earth Kingdom. Zuko had always preferred fair-play and transparency, even at his own expense.
“But you have suspicions,” she presses him.
He nods. “To tell you the truth, I’m glad Sokka’s not in Ba Sing Se right now.”
“Why not?” Katara gasps, “It’s not unstable, too, is it?”
“No,” he says, resting his head against the bedpost and letting his eyelids droop. “At least none of my advisors seem to think it is. I’m the one who has an issue. And it’s only a feeling, Katara…”
“Because of Kai Kozu?” she asks.
Zuko’s snaps to attention so quickly that he sprains his neck. “Where did you hear that name?” he growls.
“Bumi wrote about him in his letter to Aang,” Katara explains.
“Ah, that makes sense,” Zuko says, rubbing the sprain. “Kai Kozu used to keep a pretty low profile. Barely anyone outside the Earth Kingdom had ever heard of him… But lately he’s been moving more and more into the public eye. I don’t like it. He’s already got power in Kyoshi and Chin. It wouldn’t surprise me if he had plans for Omashu and Ba Sing Se, too.”
“Oh no! Zuko!” Katara’s hand flies to the reassuring carvings on her mother’s necklace, and she traces them apprehensively. “What about Toph and Suki? What about your uncle? Isn’t he still in the city?”
“I did write to them,” Zuko shrugs. “I asked them to stay here in the palace, but Toph and Suki are out in the country somewhere. I can’t reach them.”
“And your uncle?”
“Uncle doesn’t want to leave his tea shop. And besides…” Zuko blushes brick red, “I think he might have a lady friend in the city. He’s acting like a love-sick teenager.”
Katara watches as Zuko drags his fingers through his hair, tugging at the ends. “You’re really worried about this, aren’t you?” she asks.
“I am,” he admits.
Katara leans back into the mountain of fluffy pillows and soft white furs, and closes her eyes—too tired to care that Zuko is still watching her. She says a silent prayer for Toph, Suki, and Iroh in Ba Sing Se, and thanks every spirit she can name for her father’s stubbornness. At least she knows Sokka is safe in the Southern Water Tribe—far, far away from the Earth Kingdom capital…
As she drifts off into sleep, she reaches out to feel Zuko’s warm body beside her—his chest rising and falling evenly. She draws a little closer, and he opens his arms wide to make room for her. She pillows her head in the crook of his arm and breathes in a scent like something out of a dream. In fact, she thinks it must have been a dream, because when she wakes up in the night he is gone, and the spot where she imagined he had lain is awash with moonlight.

Sweet Tea in the Summer
MASTERLIST | REQUESTED BY: @goodandevil18
GENRE: fluff
PROMPT: “Did you seriously just climb through my window?”
NOTES: I’m so sorry for the long wait! But here is the Zuko oneshot that was requested, I’m hoping to be able to get the Sokka one out soon, but the words for this were just flowing out.
Zuko sat in front of the pond, though his back was turned to the turtle ducks that usually took up all his free time in the afternoon. Instead, his attention was entirely focused on the girl sitting across from Aang and Katara as they all drank tea together in the garden.
During the war, when he was training Aang, it was easier to ignore his blossoming feelings for his old friend as she spent most of her time with Katara or Sokka. But now that she was practically living at the palace with her father as one of his council members, it was harder to ignore that she existed.
Y/N threw her head back in laughter, but Zuko couldn't hear what Aang said. Not that it mattered much to him, not when Y/N looked like an absolute angel with the sun shining down on her like that.
"Zuko, why don't you come join us?" Katara called out, finally snapping the boy out of his thoughts. The Water Tribe girl - who had refused to call him by his official title ever since his coronation - stared at him with a knowing look in her eyes.
"I-" His voice came out fairly squeaky, causing him to quickly avert his gaze as a blush crept onto his cheeks. He cleared his throat with a quiet cough before attempting. "I can't. I have a meeting to get to."
"Oh, come on," Y/N rolled her eyes, a grin taking over her features. "You're Fire Lord Zuko. I believe that means you can stay for one cup of your uncle's new Tea, without your council getting too annoyed."
Zuko's eyes flickered to her for just a second, before he stood up and turned around to head inside. The simple phrase "I'm already late" leaving his lips as he left.
Y/N stared at Zuko's retreating figure with a frown. A sigh escaped her lips as she lifted her cup back up, taking a small sip of the sweet tea Uncle Iroh had prepared for them.
Katara crossed her arms. "I seriously don't know how you put up with him all the time," she grumbled. "I've only been here for two days and I already-"
"Sweetie," Aang spoke up sweetly, his soft smile immediately relaxing Katara.
Y/N's eyes flickered between the young couple, they had been dating for 2 years now. Ever since the war ended. Y/N found their relationship cute, even if Sokka had gotten to the point where hearing "sweetie" one more time would make him jump into Unagi infested waters.
"I don't understand how it was so easy for you two," Y/N muttered. "Going from friends to- to this!" She waved her hand in the direction of the couple who had just shared a kiss right in front of her. "I want it to be that easy for me and-"
Y/N suddenly cut herself off with a fake cough, looking down in embarrassment.
"For you and Zuko," Aang finished for her. "Is that what you wanted to say before you coughed?"
"Yeah, thanks, Aang," Y/N rested her forehead against the palm of her hand, not wanting to look at her friends.
"Oh, come on, Aang. Who else would she be talking about?" Katara giggled.
"I can't believe you two are making me wish that Sokka was here right now."
"What would he do that we can't?" Katara asked, sounding annoyed that her best friend would even suggest wanting her brother's company more than her own. "Sokka gives the worst relationship advice! Just ask Zuko!"
"Zuko asked Sokka for advice?" Y/N lifted her head. "Why? About who?"
"Sweetie!" Aang glanced at Katara, whose eyes widened as she realised what she had said. "No one, Y/N. It was a looong time ago. Right, Katara?"
"Right!" Katara squeaked, nodding her head a few times.
Y/N stared at the two with a raised brow, not believing them for even a second. "You two are the worst liars I have ever met. And I know Sokka!"
"We aren't supposed to say. I'm sorry, Y/N," Aang frowned. "He made us promise."
"Why though? Please, give me something to work off here," Y/N begged.
Realising this might be the only chance she had to convince Y/N to say something, Katara quickly spoke up. "You should tell him how you feel tonight! Before he gets advice from someone better than Sokka."
Y/N visibly deflated at that. "Why would I do that if he likes somebody else?" She let out a sigh as she stared down into her tea cup. "I guess it makes sense, he has been avoiding me recently, and just brushes me off when I do get the chance to speak to him."
Aang and Katara shared a look. Y/N wasn't just overthinking things here. Zuko had been brushing her off recently, but that was because of Sokka's stupid advice. It had nothing to do with Y/N.
"You have to try, Y/N," Katara told her. "You'll only be more heartbroken if you don't. And... and if it doesn't work out, then I guess you can come live with me in the South."
Y/N let out a quiet laugh. She had been pestering Katara about that for weeks now, saying that if her best friend in the Fire Nation had gotten sick of her then perhaps it was time to go visit Katara and Sokka's home for awhile. It didn't hurt that it was currently summer in the Fire Nation, and a refreshing break to the snow would be nice this time of year.
"Okay, but when he rejects me and tells me he never wants to see my face again, then I hope you know that I will never leave the South Pole."
"Wouldn't have it any other way," Katara smiled softly.
Zuko sat his desk, his head in his hands. He didn't even have any meetings today, he didn't know why he said that. Honestly, he would've loved nothing more than to join them for tea, to hear Y/N's laugh up close. But Sokka's squeaky voice had weaselled its way into his head, telling him to play hard to get.
So now here he was, wasting the evening away in his office in an attempt to avoid Y/N's judging eyes. Surely by now she would've realised he was lying about the meeting.
Maybe she was too busy with Aang and Katara to remember that she practically had his entire schedule memorised like the back of her hand - he had forgotten one meeting with one of the Fire Nation officials, so Y/N had taken it upon herself to make sure he would never do it again. When he had asked her about it, she told him that it was so he could have at least one stressful thing taken off his shoulders.
It meant more to him than he would ever admit.
Zuko's eyes widened as he lifted his head just in time to see Y/N halfway through the window, obviously having climbed inside.
When their eyes met, a sheepish smile appeared on the girl's face. "So... you come here often?" She asked awkwardly.
Though her stupid question wasn't what he was focused on. "Did you seriously just climb through my window?"
With her feet now touching the ground inside the office, she dusted off her pants. "Yes..." She noticed the dead-pan look her was giving her. "But you gave me no choice!"
"I gave you no choice?" His brows furrowed in confusion as he stood up and pointed at the door. "There's a door right there, Y/N!"
"If the guards announced me, you would've come up with a stupid excuse to leave," Y/N pointed out.
Zuko went silent at that, knowing she was probably right. "I-"
"No. Stop talking," she held her hand out in his direction, signalling for him to stop. "I need to talk. And then I'm gonna climb back out the window and we'll pretend this never happened-"
"Okay?"
"Zuko, what did I just say?" She whined. He couldn't help but smile, though instead of replying, he simply nodded. "Thank you. Now, anyways... Zuko, I think - at least, I hope - I'm not the only one who feels this way. But I really like you, okay? Wait, no... No, I mean I do but it feels like more than that! Maybe- I think I'm in love with you. Wow was that weird to say, how do Katara and Aang do it all the t-"
"You love me?" Zuko stared her in shock, only able to watch as Y/N stopped rambling and took a hesitant step back toward the window.
"Y- yeah, so... so I think I'm gonna climb back out now," she whispered. "Sorry."
Just as she was about to throw her leg over the side of the railing, he quickly rushed forward. Taking her hand into his own, he effortlessly pulled her away from the window until she stood facing him.
They both stared at each other for just a moment, before Zuko whispered. "I love you, too."
Without a second of hesitation, Y/N slowly pulled Zuko's face down closer to hers, their lips pressing together gently as they kissed.
Zuko was beginning to realise something else, he should have never listened to Sokka's advice. If he hadn't, then maybe he could've been kissing her for much longer.
As they pulled away, Zuko found himself saying the first thing that came to his mind. "Is that Uncle's new sweet tea?"
Y/N blinked, before letting out a laugh. "Yeah, I had more before I came. Surprisingly, it helped my nerves."
Zuko smiled softly. "Good. I'm glad you came and told me."
"Me too."
