Chapter 4: In which Katara takes us on a tour of Egypt's most famous river

Oh no. No, no, no. This is not good. Zuko is not allowed to be sexy. "...I can barely keep my hands to myself right now. You know exactly how much I want to stop being nice and noble and selfless." His voice is weird and raspy, it's not supposed to sound thick and rich like warm honey. This whole thing he's doing? Telling her what she already knows like he can read her mind, turning her own words back on her? It's unacceptable. "And now, I know you want that too," the smug bastard says, and then smirks at her. Smirks. As if that's some brilliant deduction. As if he just delivered a winning argument in favor of Katara opening her robes and letting him put those big stupid hands on her feverish skin and pull her restless body tight to his stupid muscled chest so she can press her nose into the source of that obnoxiously rich scent. He smells like the manliest, most self-satisfied autumn bonfire ever lit, and it's not as persuasive as he thinks it is.

Okay who's gonna be my homoerotic best friend who's also j as sexy and hot as me and we go on adventures together and everyone ships us but it will never be canon cause we're both in a straight relationship with partners that we have little to no chemistry with that diminishes both partners character potential to just a sad hetero relationship to stop the gays

I've seen so many comments insulting aang for being bald and not being "hot" enough for Katara?? And it's honestly so.. disrespectful?? Aang shaves his head because it's HIS culture as an air nomad? His entire race was wiped out and he's the only one who could preserve it?? And Katara ACCEPTS that and loves him for it. Bashing that is basically insulting his culture. So fucking insane.

Not everyone goes for a relationship just bc someone is "hot" that's basically projecting YOUR mindset of what's worthy for Katara and what's not, into Katara herself.

So as long as someone is "hot" they are morally a better romantic match than someone who isnt? Yeah right, pretty privilege is SO real when you look at claims like this.

Just Iroh trying to teach an ex-prince who lived the last few months in the middle of nowhere and a guy who's spent his entire life breaking the law to help people while raising 20 kids in the woods to be normal citizens™

Sorry if you’ve answered this before but do you have any idea of how many chapters into the fire will end up being or how the ending will pan out? (Also I love you and the world you’ve created thanks for being awesome <333)

I have answered this before, but I feel it changes day to day lol… ITF is about ummm halfway? It will absolutely be the largest fic of the three, but it has to be in order to bring this thing to a proper close. I could realistically do a fourth book but fuck it I am sticking to the original plan of three. I have the ending completely planned and most of the epilogue figured out as well… I will admit the only thing I don’t have completely planned out is the nitty-gritty details that tend to unfold as the story happens? So as the battle begins who knows how characters will react or what emotions will come up so I like to keep things loose with that to give the characters room to breathe.

But yeah! I do have an ending and I have all the MAJOR events planned, so any twists & turns along the way are already set in motion :)

Toko/Zutoph seems like it would be a nice years-long slow burn that builds up over time post-war.

dr. bonefall i am obsessed with your dotc reread. i read dotc ~4ish years ago and remembered hating it but not quite understanding why & so this is both genuinely really excellent analysis and also WICKED cathartic. also the graywing bootlicking post is making me SHAKE laughing. thank you for your service o7

I'm glad that I'm able to put into words exactly why this arc bothers people so badly, especially Gray Wing's behavior. A lot of folks don't really 'get' the hate because they 1. haven't read the arc or, more charitably, 2. Took his constant defense of Clear Sky at face value and didn't realize just how uncomfortable it becomes

But WOW this arc is rancid, and we haven't even really gotten into how fucking bad the "redemption arc" is.

In particular though I hope I'm pointing out how bad Tall Shadow's treatment is. It gets lost in how ROTTEN the rest of the arc is, but she is another victim of the writers HATING women so bad it makes them look stupid. I really hope that's a takeaway alongside Gray Wing Not Good and Bumble Deserves Better.

and also. Make no mistake. Clear Sky is the worst part of this arc and possibly the worst character that the Erins have ever written, which is an achievement in a sea of garbage cats
