Dinosaur (2000)

A dinosaur raised by lemurs tries to lead a heard to a safe haven when meteors start raining from the sky, all the while being pursued by carnivorous predators.

 I think that this story is superior to various other dinosaur films because it creates a small and varied family for the lead character. They are mostly of different species but because they all have weaknesses like age or size or unfamiliarity with the customs, they all gang together to try and survive. They also show compassion by even stopping to help an enemy in the face of danger.

 The bad dinosaurs weren’t that much of a threat since they were a smaller breed of carnivore, suggesting that they would be a lot more dangerous if it had been a tyrannosaurus or something larger. They also spend the majority of the film far behind the main herd of dinosaurs even though they can move faster than all the slow moving four-legged ones so they should have caught up with and devoured most of them pretty early on.

 The animation in this film is actually more realistic and natural than a lot of the later films which try to recreate the dinosaurs using cutting edge 3D technology. The lighting sets the atmosphere of each scene well, giving them light reflecting off of their skins and shadows when needed. It’s not over ambitious and for that reason more effort goes into the narrative.

 My least favourite character is Zini the lemur because he had the potential to be a sympathetic character and instead just ended up being a failed source of comic relief and quite irritating throughout most of the film. It would have been better for the drama and the tone of the film if his part had been cut and replaced by more great philosophical lines from the other members of his family like Pilo.

 7/10 -Well above average, but no masterpiece-

 -This was Disney’s first non-Pixar computer animated film.

-Also the first Disney film to get a PG rating since 1985 when The Black Cauldron was released.

-Many of the sounds Url the Ankylosaur makes are chimpanzee noises.

Yoram Dvash, President of the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE), has been appointed to head a new committee of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) to undertake strategic initiatives to advance the global industry. The new appointment was announced during the World Diamond Congress in Mumbai, which concluded last week.

IDE President Dvash said that he was very pleased to lead this very important initiative. “The Israel Diamond Exchange has introduced groundbreaking measures to advance the local industry. We have enhanced the transparency of the industry, increased cooperation with governmental authorities and have introduced the first Ethical Code of Conduct in a diamond exchange. We have also taken several steps to harness the power of technology and innovation for the good of the industry. We are excited to lead the world industry to greater levels of transparency, relevance and achievement.”

Dvash, as Vice President of WFDB, surprised the industry when he announced several months ago that he would relinquish the opportunity to become WFDB President, in order to fully devote him to seeing through the technological and administrative revolution he had put into motion at IDE.

Dvash headed a delegation of the Israel Diamond Exchange to the World Diamond Congress in Mumbai, India, which included Boaz Moldawsky, Chairman of the Israel Diamond Institute; Eran Zini, IDE Managing Director; Shmuel Iny, Legal Advisor; Meir Wertheim, Chairman of the WFDB Legal Committee and Shabtai Vogel, President Etgar Diamond Bourse.

Aethon Debuts the T4 Autonomous Mobile Robot at MOTEK 2018

PITTSBURGH — Aethon is expanding its line of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and will unveil the newest TUG robot, the T4, at MOTEK 2018 in Stuttgart, Germany. Aethon can be found in Hall 7 at booth 7420.

The T4 is the answer for industrial, manufacturing and logistics customers who need a smaller, faster and integration-ready mobile robot. System integrators and distributors will value the T4 as an improved mobility platform due to its ease of deployment, cost-effectiveness and open connectivity options.

The T4 builds on Aethon’s TUG product line by providing system integrators greater flexibility through its built-in connections to allow the integration of active payloads such as tools or conveyors. Aethon will be encouraging third parties to develop solutions to pair with the T4 platform. As a catalyst and example for developers, at MOTEK 2018, Aethon will demonstrate a powered conveyor attached to its mobile chassis interacting with fixed automation equipment. The T4 will pair with existing automation equipment even in tight spaces due to its center-pivot 17 inch / 44 cm turning radius. It will haul loads up to 250 lbs / 113 kg and is capable of traveling on sloped areas up to 5 degrees thanks to its unique independent suspension system. The T4 can also travel at speeds up to 2 m/s. It will automatically pick up and drop off carts, avoiding the labor costs of cart-tending required by competing AMRs.

ST Engineering acquires mobile robot maker Aethon for $36 million

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) has acquired Pittsburgh, PA-based robotics firmAethon Incthrough Vision Technologies Land Systems, Inc. (VTLS), and its wholly-owned subsidiary, VT Robotics, Inc, for $36million.

Theacquisition will be carried out by way of a merger with VT Robotics, a special newly incorporated entity established forthe transaction. The merger will see Aethon as the surviving entity that will operate as asubsidiary of VTLS, and will be part of the the ST Group's Land Systems sector.Aethon's leadership team and employees will remain in place and the company will continue to operate out of its Pittsburgh, PA location.

ST Engineering, S63 on the Singapore Stock Exchange, is a Singapore-basedintegrated defense and engineering group focused in aerospace, electronics, and land, sea and air unmanned systems for the battlefield. It employs over 21,000 people and has annual revenues of around $5 billion.
